20 Best Heater For Chicken Coop (2023 Updated)

I got this as we are planning some remodeling this fall and will have ingested rooms and the windows removed. I was worried about keeping DH, the work site and materials at comfortable and safe temperatures and this will take care of it.

We had a couple very cool nights this past weekend so we decided to test the 85000 portable propane heater from Sunnydaze. It worked like a champ! First- it is relatively compact,lightweight and portable with a comfortable handle for moving it around.

It is bright red so you can’t miss it and trip over it. Easy to set up and use it comes with a regulator and hose and is as simple to hook up as changing the tank on your gas grille. We used a 100 pound tank and the heater ran for hours and hours.

It has a fan so that the hot air is blown out and moved around. It kept our normally unheated 2 stall+ garage toasty warm and I was able to paint some cabinet doors and trim without worrying about the paint and air temp.

It is a propane heater so make sure you use it in a well ventilated area and not near flammable things.

What an incredible Heater!!!!! Its smaller in size but packs a punch. This little unit heats up our whole garage in just a short time. Taking the time to set this up is easy. If I can do it , anyone can.

Make sure you have adequate ventilation. Keep all other items clear from the heater as not to set a fire. Make sure you follow the provided instructions for this product. I just love how quickly it heats.

For cold Wisconsin winters to fall conditions, this is the perfect heater for the job. Its smaller and easy to carry and handle. If you take care of this heater , it will last a long time. We Love ours.

This Sunnydaze 125,000 btu forced air propane heater works great in my outside shop. I work outdoors and it gets quite cold in the shop area. This connects to propane and , it’s super easy to set up , and let me tell you this heater can pack the heat.

It does a great job of heating my workspace and heats up quickly. It’s not only great quality but a great value as well. It is perfect for heating up and warming outside and in work areas!.

I’ve been using larger (28k BTU) kerosene heaters for years, wanted a smaller one for a cold area of my house where the larger heaters are a bit too much. I’ve burned a few tanks of kerosene thru this heater now and like it overall, but there are a few issues: The igniter only works about half the time.

I have the same problem with my larger kerosene heaters, so we have arc lighters that we use when the igniter doesn’t work. You can light with a match, but don’t want the match head falling off on the wick.

There’s no fuel gauge on this heater, just a window where you see inside the tank. I’d pay a few dollars more for the unit if it had a proper fuel tank. The front grill is a bit fussy to get open. You need to open the grill to adjust the flame, so it would be nice if it opened more easily.

Overall this is a nice unit, perfect for a smallish space. I like that the tank comes out, so we don’t have to move the whole thing outside to refuel. All kerosene heaters are a bit fussy, and require periodic dryburning.

You also don’t want to leave these unattended, or go to sleep with them running. We use these to supplement electric heat and a pellet stove in a drafty old farmhouse. They do not require electricty and are great to have in a power outage.

We love this kerosene heater. The size is perfect for us. The fuel efficiency is economical and allows us to save money by not having to run our furnace constantly. It is easy to operate. The small fuel canister is simple to pull out and refill outside without having to move the entire heater, and the heat output is amazingly warm and comfortable, not harsh and drying.

The fuel gauge window allows us to easily view how much kerosene is left in the canister. We now have a total of 4 that we use in our large family room, basement, and garage areas on an as needed basis.

However, as others have noted, the automatic ignition switch is not the best, and we do have to manually light it often. That is generally not a huge issue for us, but may be an irritant for other purchasers.

I currently have a couple of these kerosene heaters and I like to rotate them out every so often, as to not let the wick from just one get all of the use over the winter season. I have never had any problem with this heater and I would never go thru a winter without a couple of them.

I always try to have a back up to what I use the most of, so I won’t be without one working, just in case. They put out excellent heat in my room size of 15′ X 24′. Also great if the power ever was to go out for a while during cold times.

When the heater is fired up and the mantle is all glowing without any flame going higher than the mantle, I notice very little kerosene smell. Mine have been a life saver over the years that I’ve owned them.

Stopped working. I guess I was a lucky one. It worked for almost a year of daily use. Now it’s no longer working. It was great for my purposes when it did work. Easy to use, put out decent amount of heat and I liked the safety feature.

Even the fan was nice to have when it was hot out, wasnt super cooling but provided a nice breeze which was enough for me. Good compact size heater with nice base shape that wouldnt easily tip over. I need the company to send me a new one ASAP.

Their telling me I need to send them the non working heater BEFORE they can send me a working heater which is unacceptable and NOT good customer service, that puts me w/o a heater for far too long. Additionally I emailed the company about this several days ago and NO ONE responded to my email.

I had to call in to get through to someone which has further delayed the issued being resolved, the cs agent I spoke to did not resolve the issue. The company needs to send me a heater ASAP. I need this issue escalted to someone who CAN actually send me a new heater PRONTO w/o even more delays.

It should NOT be so difficult to get replacement when the heater is under warranty. Its ridiculous the product isnt more reliable and that several customers (according to reviews) have had to go w/o the heat source when the product stops working.

In my case it seems to be an issue with the on/off switch. I really like this heater, I just want it to work. PLEASE send me a new one ASAP. I have given “fair” marks for quality and performance because I feel WHEN it actually worked for nearly a year it worked really well and was a great product BUT that due to poor design or quality, the performance is now lacking, the product did not last even a year.

This could also be a design problem but I gave an average rating for design because I really like the shape, color and compact nature of the product. The front doesnt get hot to the touch which is nice, the shape makes me feel safer that it wont tip over and I like that there is a handle up top if it needs to be move.

I also like the easy to use buttons and the safety feature button on the bottom. It seems though that in my case the buttons on the top were not well designed in terms of lasting in such a way to power the heater on/off, that part of the heater seems to be what isnt working.

It isn’t user error, or anything I did to misuse the item, the power button just stopped doing its job and I suspect after reading other reviews, that the other button on top, which chooses heat or fan option, may be what stopped working for other people.

I encourage the company to focus on redesigning that aspect of the heater in terms of making it more durable, but leave buttons where they are and to function the same just more durable or use longer lasting parts/connectors in that part of the heater and with that, the heater would be exceptional.

I would encourage the company to clearly and boldly note on the website if/when they make this correction to this model, as if they did I would feel comfortable purchasing the same heater again in the future if I knew that improvement had been made and I believe others who have read the negative reviews would also be willing to give the heater a chance IF they knew that improvement had been made.

Alternatively and addtionally, if the company takes this same heater makes that improvement and gives it new model number, I would like to know what that new model number is so that I could purchase THAT heater that is the same but has the improvement, that’s how much I like this heater the way it is already (when it works).

Living in the high desert of Nevada, during the winter months, extra heating help is often needed. This is especially true about in my kitchen. I purchased this with the intent of using it specifically in that room.

Before utilizing this heater the kitchen would get so cold overnight my glucose meter wouldn’t function in the mornings. It’s a smallish kitchen so this unit worked well warming up the entire room. However, I must agree with some other reviews.

The plug and cord get extremely hot, which concerns me and is the reason I will be returning. In addition, it seems to be overpriced by QVC by about $30. 00.

My home was built in 1949 with a radiant heating system (hot water circulated in pipes in the floor. ) It is a wonderful system but has a drawback similar to a fireplace. Radiant heating is felt on one side (facing the heat) but cool on the oposite side.

I am using vornado heaters to suppliment my heating system. They circulate the heat in the floor and adds additional heat. It is the best of both worlds. Warm floors and warm circulating air with less wasted energy.

My heating system is more efficient at slightly less cost.

This heater is great with small children around. I recently purchased this second heater for a second room. My grandchildren were playing in the living room where one of the heaters was on. I popped into the kitchen for a second and when I returned my two year old granddaughter was playing ring a round the heater.

She was putting her arm all the way through the “hole” in the middle and was not getting burned. No, I don’t let them play with it, the point being “if” they do touch it they don’t get burned. I believe these heaters are some of the safest on the market for that reason alone.

They also perform very well! There is only one negative thing I have to say, when new, these heaters have a burning plastic smell that will make you think it is burning up and will cause you to want to return it.

Before you do, put it in the garage, turn it up as hot and as high as it will go and let it run for a day or so. This will “burn” off the unpleasant burning plastic smell “before” you use it in your house or office.

so far I have had it for a few days, the temp is off which makes it cut off sooner then wanting but I have just kept it higher temp, it does completely shut off after a few hours of it being set to the temp desired and it maintaining it which happened while sleeping.

it does heat up quickly and fill my room nicely. quieter than a fan, kinda smells right now but hopefully that will stop. should be cheaper or should be better.

ZERO STARS! Garbage. Got for my 82-year-old mother. It comes on for a few minutes and shuts off. Then my mother has to get up, unplug. Wait ten minutes, get up, plug it back in, runs for 5 minutes – Repeat.

Plus, the first time she used it the plug was soooo hot she couldn’t touch it to unplug it! OMG! Thank god my 82-Y—O mother had the SENSE to unplug the piece of garbage!! I’d be at her funeral! GARBAGE! Stay away! I’m throwing it in the bin.

I wanted to make sure my chickens had a safe space to warm themselves if the temps in my area got into single or below freezing and this does the job. I like the fact that it has two heat settings high and low (I think they call it something else) and I can change it between the two depending on how cold it is.

It has two options for securing by either hanging it up using the two hooks on the back or the feet. We chose to use the feet to secure it to the dog kennel I put out for them to stand on to look out their window.

We used a 2 by 4 that’s about12 inches long underneath the kennel’s ceiling and screwed the heater in place with two construction screws thru the kennel ceiling and into the board for a very sturdy heater so it won’t tip over.

So far it’s working perfectly and my chickens like to sit in front of it and it doesn’t get too hot so I know they won’t get burned. This product does exactly what I want it to do and I know my chickens are happy and comfortable with it; in fact as soon as I got in screwed into the kennel/board they immediately went to check it out.

This is a excellent heater to help your flock from getting frostbite, on their combs, wattles, and feet. We have it plugged into a thermo cube thermostat, to auto kick on at 35-37 degrees, then it turns off at about 45 degrees.

It works perfectly like this! This heater is not a heater that warms a chicken coop room temperature up. It’s not made to do that. It produces radiant heat to cooler areas. It’s just the right kind of heat to keep your chickens toasty roosting, on a cold Winters night.

Or, to come in from a chicken run, and warm up, during a cold day. We mounted it on the coop wall, near the roost bars. Happy hens, and Roo. We don’t have to worry about them getting frostbitten, or the danger of heat lamps.

Which create too much hot heat. Then your birds go out doors and can’t regulate their body temperature. Remember, they hold over 100 degrees inside their feathers. They don’t need a hot chicken coop.

Just to keep them draft free, with plenty of vents, and take the chill off the areas that can cause frostbite. Yes, it’s warm to the human hand touch, but not hot to a chickens body. They’ll roost on it, if on the floor.

There is no way to control the temperature of this brooder other than switching from brooder to heater. I do like that it can be used as a coop heater if ever necessary; however, it is way too big for the brooder tub I have.

When it is horizontal like a brooder, the chicks get on top and poop all over it. We ended up using it more in heater mode to keep them warm. I would not buy this again. I would buy a heat plate with temperature control to maintain appropriate temperature based on age.

I also would want it to be smaller and have a dome on top so the chicks can’t get up there and poop on it anymore. I’ll probably end up buying one like that elsewhere, then I’m stuck with this dud. By the way, I paid much less for this earlier this year.

I would definitely not pay current price for it as it is not worth it!!!.

I really like the idea of this brooder/heater – it has a much lower fire risk than traditional heat lamps and it uses less electricity than bulb heaters. However, it just doesn’t get the job done in anything less than ideal environments.

I brooded some birds in the fall and the ambient temperature hovered in the 40s for most of the time that I used this heater. This heater simply didn’t provide enough heat for my chicks, even when they were underneath it.

I think this product has some merit as a brooder for very young chicks who can get underneath it, but it absolutely does not work as a coop heater. It just doesn’t put out enough heat. When I put my hand in front/under it, I could only really feel the heat when I was 6 inches away or closer.

Even then, it was not a significant heat source. If you’re looking to try this brooder, I would recommend only using it when the ambient temperature is 55 degree F or higher.

I purchased this for my brooder for the chicks I hatched. I have always faithfully used a red heat lamp for years. After years of warnings and most recently, a local farm losing a lamb and her babies due to a heat lamp mishap, I chose to go with a heat plate.

This brooder plate is large enough (with extra room) for my 21 chicks and is a great price compaired to other brands. It keeps them at the necessary temperature and they can come and go as needed. The adjustable height is nice since I have different breeds.

I use Glade Press n’ Peel to protect the top, since they enjoy standing on the top!.

We are very pleased with this brooder unit. It assembles in seconds and the adjustable legs make it easy to have varying temperatures using just the one unit. The chicks are able to regulate their temperature on their own just by staying to one end of the brooder or the other if you set the legs at opposite ends at different heights.

We currently have 8 chicks, 2 groups of 4 about 2 weeks apart in age and they are all able to regulate their temps easily while under the brooder. 10/10 would recommend this brooder. We haven’t had the opportunity or need to use the unit on the coop heater setting, so I cannot review that function of the unit.

These actually work pretty well. I was not able to use them as the sole source of heat due to an unexpectedly large population of chicks but the chicks seemed to like the feeling they got underneath them.

I am happy I have them and with less chicks they might be able to be used as the exclusive source of heat.

I have six of these and they are brilliant. Wont ever go back to heat lamps. Just hatched 160 chicks and not had a single issue. They are all healthy all 3 to 5 weeks old now and seem to really like the broodersCheap to run safe sturdy easy to use.

It heats well but the adjustment of the feet is not at the top, too large spaces between the levels. Not great when you have dwarf chicks … to leiter.

I purchased this to warm a smaller room in the barn. I does, heat and it is quiet and will turn it’s self off when tipped. However, the heat blowing from the unit does not seem very warm. On element turns red and no where have I read any information on if that is normal.

Not mentioned in the booklet that came with it. I know it is warmer than before I used it but not really much of a difference, 1-2 degrees maybe! I will continue to use it only because it is better than nothing.

I probably had too high of expectations for this heater. I would not buy another one.

Purchased this heater to keep my backyard building just warm enough to keep contents from freezing. Building is 12×18 and well insulated but this heater does not throw enough heat to keep it from freezing when it gets to 20* outside.

Very disappointed.

I use this heater in my drafty loft office and I love it. The best part is how quiet it is. You can barely hear it when it’s running – there’s no loud fan noise. I also like how quickly it heats up after turning it on.

Will definitely be purchasing another for the garage.
