20 Best Headphones With Detachable Cable (2023 Updated)

Had to write a review of my lovely DT-990’s because above user didn’t know what they bought. These are studio grade high impedance (resistance) headphones, and they incredible for what they are designed to do.

These headphones are made for musicians and studio engineers who need incredible accurate frequency range and response in headphones with a very clean signal. In order to get this clean signal these headphones have very high impedance.

(this is what the 250 Ohms is referring to in the product title) High impedance headphones like these need to be driven by an external sound card or other amplification device to account for this resistance.

Ignoring the brief education lesson, these headphones are fan freakin tactic. If you are a musician, producer, or just someone who wants a very flat and accurate frequency response in your headphones, I would highly recommend them.

Worth every penny. Great for mixing and a reference point. I would use these over KRKs and Ive been an audio engineer for over 10 years. I discovered these after moving into an apartment and finding myself having to do some mixing at home and obviously had to be aware of volume.

After demoing a few headphones these were the easy choice. I can mix on these just as good as I can monitors but would never suggest relying only on one or the other. These are comfortable and are great for long sessions.

Doesnt cause ear fatigue as fast as most headphones do. The closed back version is great for tracking/recording as well and I find a lot of performers love the sound and especially how comfortable they are.

Doubt Ill ever be buying another set of headphones in this price range.

Headphones are entirely subjective; there is not just the audio factor, but comfort, style, portability, practicality. all those criteria (and more) that make up the reasoning for embracing or spurning this kind of equipment.

From my perspective, I value audio reproduction where the delivery is warm, weighty and not harsh, while at the same time detailed and spacious, and these headphones deliver on those counts. Style is not a consideration for me, as I will never wear them outside the house, nor will I care who sees me wearing them in the house! Build quality is excellent; no fears of pulling them too hard, no need to baby them between listens.

they are well designed and (comparatively) hard-wearing. Price is really secondary; but these from one seller and you could pay over $400. Buy from another and you could score a great deal for just over the $100 mark.

I use these with the Sony UDA-1 DAC; high-res audio files in digital format. I don’t listen to vinyl and my time spent with CDs (possibly as a result of this audio pairing) is waning considerably. As with any product, you must research within your criteria and audition various products from various manufacturers.

This products works amazingly well for me in terms of the above. I hope it will for you. If not, and you’ve already paid for it, you should try some more and make someone like me happy with a great eBay deal :-).

I had the Shure Se215 SPE (Blue), and they didn’t leave any corners to impress me, so it was obvious to bring in the wireless capability to them. ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Pros- Flat sound signature (which may not be the choice of many) is provided by these IEMs.

Details in the music are not only heard but felt. Instrument separation is good. The soundstage is awesome as compared to the IEM’s in this price range(excluding wireless adapters price). Vocals sound extraordinarily clear.

Highs, Mids and Lows are just perfect and would rarely require tweaking in the equalizer provided by SHURE Play app. Base is deep and punchy, at least with the SPE(Special Edition) ones, definitely not for bassheads.

but still punchy when you are considering an IEM. Environment mode is an awesome feature ! Just double tapping either button will make your earphones disappear completely. Initially I was skeptical about it, thinking that the voice would sound robotic and like radio transmissions.

But when I tried it myself, I was amazed to hear such transparency. Adding this feature to these types of Earphones which block almost all sound passively was a must. And yes you can hear your music while having the Environment mode on ! Considering Shure’s recent entry in the true wireless realm, we can say that the connection handling is not at all bad for their first attempt of True Wireless Earphones.

The connection is stable and more efficient after the update. Looks are stunning, would definitely become a point of admiration. ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Cons- Didn’t find any but yes there were scenarios where the adapters behaved strangely.

For example, once I forgot to switch them off and kept them in my previous non chargeable Shure carry bag. When trying to reuse them, somehow the left bud would connect to the device but while connecting to the right bud, it would leave the connection from the device.

Also there was a loud whistling sound from one of the earphones(which got me a little scared) but fortunately resetting them cleared the issue. On removing the Aonics 215s from the adapters and replacing them with SE215s SPE (Blue), the adapters would switch off automatically on playing certain flac files from the Shure App.

Files were Attention -Charlie Puth (16-Bit, 44. 1kHz) Bad Guy -Billie Eilish(24-Bit, 44. 1kHz) ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Conclusion- Providing the performance of an In-Ear Monitor in a True-Wireless form without losing on the details can be done only by SHURE.

Buy these only if you can afford and be satisfied with True Wireless Technology at its current phase (phase which is not at all bad). In terms of sound and impact, I still count on SHURE and their product Aonics 215 TW1.

Of late there is a trend of users opting for Chinese manufacturers due to better value to price ratio. In the past i have tried some of these renowned brands such as Vsonic, Shangling, 1more. The build quality in these earphones were pathetic, vsonic gr07 which some still consider to be really good was built like something a first grader would build out of clay.

The plastic wasn’t even molded properly and when i would stick them in they would poke my ears. The shangling tws were also horrible, the case was flimsy, the buds would never pair and it seems like it was built with some pathetic quality of plastic.

Having bashed the above chinese brands, i come to Shure. The shure SE215 have been my go to earphones for exercise, casual listening, travelling and every possible use. I have been very rough with them, my dog had a go at them but they still worked like a charm.

Over 7 years I used two of them, both lasted about the equal time. I have also tried the RHA t20, but they were not to my liking, too bulky, poor sound signature and irritating cable. So when i was looking to invest in a new pair of IEMs and noticed that Shure had launched the aonic series, they caught my eye.

Firstly the price, they retail for about 300 USD, which converted is 21k INR, including takes and import they should cost easily 30k. But they are roughly the same 300 USD price, this is always a nice sign.

Secondly the fit for me is classic shure, absolutely perfect sealing. in fact these block out more noise than sonys noise cancelling 1000mx3 both in ear and over ear. Cant hear traffic/bus/train rides with these on.

Then comes the sound, Shure are supposed to be balanced but these ones have a lot of Bass, I am not sure if its the price range that makes the earphone quality at another level or its just these pair.

It is so clearly evident when you listen to “In the air tonight” by Phil Collins as the transition to heavy bass is slow and evident. Coming to vocals take the song “Ik Onkar”, voice is extremely clear and feels you are in the studio itself.

The final test is “Maggot Brain” by Funkadelic, the playback is flawless, the transition from highs to the lows is epic. My only regret is not going for the Aonic 5 due to price constraints. (PS i am using these with apple music loseless and earman eagle DAC).

Firstly Thanks to Headphone Zone for making this wonderful piece of IEM available at reasonable price. I have been a long term user of single Balance Armature driver IEM, started with Klipsch X10i way back in 2008; which I adored a lot for its absolutely clean sound.

Due to unknown reasons, Klipsch has pulled plugs on their top of the line IEMs. Now if comparing Shure Ionic 3 with Klipsch, I can certainly say that Shure are the perfect replacement for X10i. It even betters it in few aspects particularly rhythmic drive, bass slam and upper frequencies.

Its build quality too is far better than the Klipsch X10i. Bottom-line, go for it for pristine sound at reasonable cost. Kudos.

I am the kind of guy who apparently profits from well-made dynamic drivers more than from planar ones. The R7DX has this sharp treble which is closer to my Grado headphones than to other headphones model I own and these have always been controversial.

But personally I like them, so why should I criticize the R7DX? They sound relatively open and the low clamping pressure reduces the bass impact a bit, making them a bright, treble-focused headphone (I guess the elevated 2,5 kHz to 5 kHz frequency region adds to this impression).

The R7DX is of course not as detailed as the typical audiophile 500$ headphone but I am gonna give them an extra point for being so affordable and therefore detailed enough. I bought these with a code for 99$ and some people say that the design looks even cheaper, but honestly this is perfect for me, because it doesn’t look flashy or fussy.

Also the cable connector is better than for the HE-X4. I just don’t like to see finger prints on the ear cups so they should switch the material here if possible. Another problem is that they are a bit too large for my small head.

Apart from that there is nothing I would criticize at this price point. That btw. does not mean that all the negative reviewers are wrong or something because a metalhead definitely needs more subbass than what the Hifiman delivers here.

But if you are curious and if the price is nothing for you -> try them and trust your own impression rather than reviews.

For starters, these are my first pair of Hifiman cans and as such I cannot speak to their planar lineup. What I can speak to is the fact that while these are a bit steep when it comes the full price of $150, the current discount to $100 makes these a little bit of steal for a couple of reasons.

First, imaging on these is excellent. They sound huge for closed backs and even more impressive is that Hifiman managed this with a dynamic driver as opposed to their typical planar drivers that are so good.

Second, these things are some of the most immersive headphones I have found for watching movies and shows where you need to pay attention to the sound design of the different scenes. They make me think things are actually behind me or to my sides when they are just so far out there in the sound design that it fools my brain into thinking things are there when they are not.

The one con I have for these headphones is that they are a little difficult to get to fit correctly and as a result, I’ve docked a star for them. I really like the comfort when I first put them on, but after wearing them for a bit, they start to slide down on my head.

If you have a small head, I would not recommend these without trying them first as they do not adjust to very small heads. tl;dr: these are good headphones for imaging, gaming, and content consumption.

I would even classify them as excellent for FPS games because of their imaging.

I bought these to replace my Skullcandy over-the-ear headphones, which are starting to fall apart but still sound great. First, I should have realized that you get what you pay for. They were 40 dollar headphones on sale for 20.

Okay. But as soon as I took them out of the box, they just felt really flimsy. Also, they are not over-the-ear. I tested them by plugging into my stereo system to play a 180 gram vinyl record. They sounded horrible! No treble, no fidelity, no depth at all.

just muddy, cruddy bass. Blech! The sound reminded me of an old cassette tape that’s been played 200 times. I listened for all of five seconds and put them back in the box. Luckily I have my receipt.

I will be taking them back tomorrow. Like I said, you get what you pay for. Still, I’ve had several pairs of 15 dollar JVC headphones, which are terrific. I’ve even had an older pair in the Sony MDR series that was good.

These just suck. You will feel angry that you wasted 20 dollars. There is a reason these are discounted 50 percent.

I bought these for use with my Lenovo Desk top and to replace an older set of Sennheiser HD 56 phones. These MDRZX310 can also be used with my Samsung Mobile and have plenty of volume if needed, although I mainly use ear buds out and about.

The sound is clear and with plenty of bass and Never sounding stressed. At the (special MYER) price I think these would be very hard to beat. The folding function also makes these phones easier to carry in a back pack or when put in the car glove box.

All in all a good buy from MYER. (A recommended purchase).

I’m a mid 30s male with an average sized head. I bought these for a cheap wired solution my desk set up. I couldn’t be happier for $20. They sound good, fit comfortably and feel sturdy enough for being budget headphones.

These are not noise canceling and they are not amazing compared to JBL or Bose. If you’re after a decent budget headphone with a mic though, you could do infinitely worse than these for the money. I use them for music and video conferencing and have no issues with audio or others hearing me.

The fit is super comfortable, the sound quality is excellent for headphones of this price, and the microphone rocks! Being able to mix Bluetooth and wired connections is clutch as well. Build quality is super solid and they seem reasonably repairable as well.

I have only 2 small connectivity issues with this headset. First, the Bluetooth audio quality from my Mac drops significantly when the microphone is activated; I guess bidirectional audio uses too much bandwidth.

I expect this is a problem with how macOS handles Bluetooth audio and not with the headset, but know that the BT connection on a Mac might not be the best. Second, the y-splitter cable for dual 3. 5mm mic and headphone jacks works, but seems not to connect with all jacks.

On my MacBook Pro with a Line In and Headphone Out port, the headphones work but the Line In doesn’t register at all. The same thing happens when connecting to an external audio interface. It works with a little USB audio in/out dongle that I have, so I know it functions, so I don’t know why this problem happens.

All in all, these are only minor inconveniences and may not even be an issue with other computers, but they make it just barely short of 5 stars for me.

The main reason why I brought these because I wanted to experiment with a couple sets in this price category and learn which mechanics and sound representation best matches my taste, which is, I must admit, quite undeveloped.

After a while I noticed that out of the headphones I have, I usually end up using these ones. Note, however, it is basically down to use cases and types of recordings where you can find these pretty useful and enjoyable: Talk radio, lectures, podcasts, songs where the singing voice is dominant over the musical instruments.

(And of course when I need better isolation from the surrounding world, I take the Beyerdynamic (dt 770). ) One of the most important question nowadays: can I use them with a smart phone? Yes, modern smart phones can power them.

(but I would not recommend them for (every kind of) music, only for speech or singing voice) The more instruments are playing the more painful becomes the under-poweredness, especially in some of the lows.

For example, a piano is OK, some cello accompanying it may be OK, but as more and more instruments join in, the worse the harmony and sound quality become. All in all, I can easily listen to podcasts for hours using the headphones without any fatigue or pain on the ears or in the jaw muscles.

Weakness: strong distortion in the treble region especially for hissing sounds (it has a funny lisp) for some recordings. An amplifier clears up the sounds but the treble/hissing edge remains and becomes more accentuated and crisp.

But funnily, not all recordings are impacted. A note of caveat: I still have not found the best but affordable amplifier that can bring out the most of these headphones for all types of recordings, and sometimes it is difficult to determine whether it is only the low quality of the recording that is brought out and emphasised by the better quality of the listening device.

I just wrote a review of the Sennheiser 58X, which I bought together with these headphones. Considering that this was 2/3 of the price and how much hyper 58X has in the community, I’m starting to question how much wisdom the community has.

These are better in every single respect except perhaps detail, but if you want detail, no cheap-o headphone is really good at that. Soundstage is at a good room level, to the point that I sometimes have to take them off to check if the sound is coming from source or my surroundings.

From all of under-200 headphones I own, this one is by far the best at imaging, I can pinpoint the source of sound in games with great accuracy. The tuning is just phenomenal and my ears are never fatigued (although I have a bit of pain, no doubt from a treble peak somewhere, but it’s not bad and I am too lazy to track it down).

Combine that with thick angled earpads that accommodate my goblin ears with ease and a very comfy band and I wear this all day with no ear bleed or discomfort. The only points of criticism I have is that they are bulky, heavy, making the band eat into your skull at points and that earpads are a hybrid pleather/velour and get somewhat warm during the day.

But these are so minor, who cares? The real question here is: Can you do better for the price? Answer: I seriously doubt it. They perform faaaaaaar above their price bracket and to me, at least, they put Sennheiser’s entire line until hd600 to shame.

This is how you make an entry headphone. If you need all-day headphones under $200. Stop your search and get these. For reference: I own many Sennheiser pairs, Meze 99, and a lot of popular IEMs (moondrop, samsung akg tws line, etc).

I run these on Schiit modi/magni stack or off of Creative SXFI amp, and I prefer Harmon tuning to dead neutral. If you share the same tastes, chances are, you will find this review useful.

To be honest, I wasn’t expected too much. I have vague memories of the He400i that I owned many years ago. At least I think it was a He400i (it was many years ago). However, I do remember the sound being a little thin and dry, but for $99 I thought, why not.

I needed something decent sounding to take to work and this looked like it would do just that Besides, I was getting a little tired schlepping my LCD-X back and forth So when it finally arrived, I took one look at the included stock cable and grimaced.

Tried it for a few seconds and grimaced some more. Unfortunately, my Clear Lights that I got from Drop, doesn’t fit the recessed 3. 5 mm plugs on the headphone Curse you Hifiman So I opted for my Danacable Lazuli Travellites instead.

Wow. I couldn’t listen very long since I had to get to bed for work the next day, but my initial impressions is that it much more than I expected. The next day, I spent what little time I had before work, listening to them and again, wow.

I wasn’t imagining it. When I got home, I listened to them through my desktop rig, which consists of the Hifiman EF6 and the Auralic Vega DAC. The HEX4 scales amazingly well. I don’t know how much more it will scale beyond what I was using, but I was getting incredible separation, layering and decent bass too.

Everything I wanted in a work/travel headphone and more! I actually prefer it slightly more than my LCD-X (2021 version) and that’s saying something. Although, I suspect that if I could get a hold of a better headphone cable for the X, it would be a different story.

Plus, the X will probably scale even higher than the HEX4. But for now, my X is collecting some dust while I’m enjoying my music and movies at work and at home.

Hi how are you doing today? These earphones are remarkeble. The bass frequencies allow you to perfectly hear what the bass player is doing. Soon after that, you realize the bass isn’t colored. You then tend to appreciate the delicate touch of the drummer.

It’s like a well decorated cake. As soon as you take a bite; you fall deeper in it’s flavor. Keyboards, vocals sound very rich. Guitars sound with alot of 3 dimentionality. I never heard anything sound so good.

Summerising my appreciation to the perfect craftsmanship. Results in having- an even amount of appreciation for its ergonomic design. This is a perfect example of what form and function should be like.

The quality of reverbs in the vocals? I seriously think you will start to hear other details in your favorite MP3’s; you did not notice before. They are so comfortable. You have the perfect amount of sound isolation.

Warm sounding, but lacking in technical performance area. Great For vocals, not good for complex music. Cable is easily detachable, check out crinacle’s rating for this, he is spot on about this IEM.

It’s not a bad IEM per se, just that there are far better performing IEMs for less than what this one costs.

Forget the lack of mic or convenience of wireless Bluetooth headphones…the quality of sound from these bullet shaped cans trumps it all. In fact, I love the design…it leaves enough space for your air canal to breathe and is easy to gently pull out , in case someone wants to speak with you…though your music will immerse you completely and you would want to skip any conversation.

Totally worth the hard earned money of any music lover !.

1. Sound quality: it is balenced and neutral. Its bass is punchy but not muddy. Sound stage is very wide. Sound is comparable to airpods pros. Sound is very detailed you will hear things you never heard before and you can locate the source of the sounds.

Not for you is you want muddy headphones with so much bass the other frequencies are inaudible (if you like bass so much then listen to music that has more bass instead of buying muddy headphones). 2.

Build quality: very good quality plastic but it breaks in places where plastic is thin and/or has a lot of pressure. You can easily fix the broken plastic with feviquick but feviquick doesn’t last forever.

If it ever gets loose then it most probably because of broken plastic. For me it broke in 2 places (1) from the inside (the rotation part) but it is very easy to open it and stick it with feviquick and (2) it broke from the bottom part of the size adjusting thing and you don’t need to open it to fix that part.

The quality of the cushion is great. The quality of the aux cable is good. The one with the mic broke in a few months and now i am using the 6. 35mm one and it’s quality is better than the one with the mic (both sound quality and build quality (but the difference in sound quality is mostly unnoticable especially if you use it on a phone or laptop)).

3. My opinion: buy it right now even of you are not an audiophile even if you are a ‘basshead’ you might not like the neutral sound at first if you are a ‘basshead’ but it will make you pick the music you like because it sounds like what the artist intended.

I have been using oneodio pro 10 for around 10 months.

I bought these phones based on a rave review I watched on you tube. Given their low cost, I figured if they weren’t as good as reported, then it was no great loss and I would still have a pair of reasonable knock around phones.

The clarity and depth of sound in these head phones is extraordinary and way above what they cost!!! They’re everything the UT reviewer said they were!. Construction seems very solid and finish is excellent.

My only complaint is the same as a couple of other reviewers I read- they are a little tight across the ears and they do not cover over the ears fully but rather sit on top so if you have large ears or they stick straight out, then they may not feel good.

I Know I have a big head- the hat I bought 3 days ago at the Sydney Royal Easter show is an XL. I did find by stretching the top band a few times, to its maximum flexibility, that the tension in the band eased enough to make them fairly comfortable and for anyone with an average gap between their ears- they should be fine.

It’s been a while since I have just sat back and truly listened to the music and all its detail– just for the sheer pleasure of it!!.

The headphones are good. The customer service is not. I received what I ordered which included a boom mic to be connected to and used with headphones. However, the cord on the boom mic does not fit into the port on the headphones.

It is too small. Only one cord in the box fits and it is an extension cord with no volume or mute controls on it. I have emailed back and forth with their CS, and all I get are replies for more information, which I had already provide in the previous emails.

I was then asked for a video of the problem and even with that, I received a reply asking for more information. Extremely frustrating since they only have a foreign number to call. All I want is a boom mic that fits into my headphones as the picture on the box shows.

Apparently, they can’t handle that.

These are good little headphones. Cheap. but good. I bought them for a guy down on his luck living in a derelict RV without electricity, water, etc. ,. I found him a crank-up radio but it would only run a little of six minutes on 120 cranks.

I figured with headphones the time would get extended. it did, over 20 minutes worth of listening on the same number of cranks. The radio also runs on AA batteries but he might not always be able to buy batteries and the headphones will help them last longer, too.

The headphones sound good, they’re lightweight, and they fit completely over my ears which are average sized ears. basically they’re circumaural headphones. It comes with a 3. 5MM plug but has an adapter to use if you have a 1/4″”(?) receptacle.

If you’re looking for a good, cheap set of headphones this one should fit the bill. I’m not sure about it’s longevity. time will tell. 🙂 I’m working on helping the guy out some with maybe some solar power and maybe a small propane heater.

But, for now these headphones are providing him with some entertainment and connection to “”the world””. :).

I admit, I didn’t have the highest expectations for these cheap headphones – what can you really expect for less than $15? – but Koss was a brand that seemed to excel at making budget-friendly headphones with surprisingly good sound that were built to last.

Prior to these, I had a been using a pair of Koss UR-20 headphones and those things took a beating for close to two decades! Sure, by the end they were pretty grungy and the material on the earpads was steadily disintegrating, but I never had any issues with the wiring or the overall build quality.

So, naturally, when it was time to replace them, I didn’t hesitate to go with Koss again. This time around, though, I wanted something a little more lightweight, so I gave these a shot. I don’t know if it’s the model, or if Koss just isn’t the brand they used to be, but these were definitely lacking in the build quality.

Six months in, the casing on the end near the jack started coming loose and peeling away from the cord. It didn’t seem to impact the audio and, provided I just left them plugged in, it didn’t seem like it would be a major issue.

After a year, I noticed the audio would crackle and momentarily cut out sometimes when I’d move my head. Telltale sign of failing in the wiring. I couldn’t determine where the issue was – down at the jack, up by the earpiece, or somewhere along the cord – as I couldn’t reliably make it happen by wiggling the wire.

Little by little, though, the issue grew worse until, inevitably, the headphones failed altogether after around a mere 2 years. Whether or not that’s a reasonably lifespan for cheaper headphones. well, that’s subjective.

Personally, I’m very disappointed; I didn’t expect decades, but I was hoping for a good 3-5 years as a minimum. Some cheap, no-name brand? Sure, 2 years seems about right, even generous. But I was really anticipating better from Koss.

Trash build quality aside, the headphones were relatively comfortable – even with a larger head and when used for extended periods – and the sound quality was rather decent, especially considering the size and price.

(The sound quality actually lived up to my expectations for the brand, though. ) Honestly, if the build quality was better, these would be an easy recommend. As it stands, though, I’d advise you to look elsewhere, or at least lower your expectations and be okay with the fact that these may only last a year or two.

Just got these today after 2 months for shipping, likely from back-ordering. The very first thing I listened to on these literally stopped me dead. I was absolutely floored by how good these sounded just out of my phone for how much they cost me.

I’ve been throwing every kind of music I can at them over the last few hours, and everything just sounds great out of them. The bass is surprisingly strong and in your face, but somehow everything is still pleasantly balanced and clear.

I knew these would sound good and feel good, but I was never expecting THIS level of performance for something that cost less than a nice dinner for 2, and that is often regarded as a “throw away” headphone.

They’re definitely called that because they’re inexpensive, but you know that you’ll be going right back and buying another pair if anything happens to them. My first pair of headphones that fits the pure vibe that these headphones give me.

Instant recommendation to anybody wanting some low cost headphones that feel well built and have no business sounding as good as they do.

Like the KPH30i, these could also be the headphone to end all headphone wars if these had detachable cables and were built with materials that cost more than $1. 50 Koss makes the most frustrating products from my perspective.

On the one hand, they clearly know good to great sound and how to build small speaker units to deliver it. But almost everything else about Koss spells cheap and nasty. The Porta Pros are no exception.

Made from cheap plastic and a small sliver of metal that could bend/break with the slightest lack of care and cables that are thinner than vermicelli, the overall experience is part ecstasy (sound) and part agony (build).

I understand price sensitivity, but perhaps split the same product into a lite and pro version, one made cheaply for college kids and the other for people willing to spend more? For $40 odd, these are fine, but I wish these were $100 and built twice as well.

They would still compete with $200 headphones on sound.

I bought these to upgrade from my Marshall headphones which have smaller cans and are not studio monitor style like these are. These A. T’s sound great. I use these to help me drown out the sounds on and of the subway on my daily commutes and they help immensely.

Because they cup the ears and sit around them, they seal off a lot of the surrounding noise. Music comes in nice and clear without having to turn up loud. The bluetooth connects instantly. They are a bit on the big n bulky side compared to the Marshall’s and much heavier.

The design could be much sleeker all around including the control buttons design. The cushioning and padding is very plush though after a couple hours you do start feeling the squeeze from the ear pads.

Pad upgrades could relieve that. Overall for a pair of studio monitor, noise reducing, bluetooth headphones. these are great.

Sounds is good. mic quality is good. Unfortunately, they just don’t do what I need them to do. When connected to Windows 10, any time the mic is used they cease to be stereo headphones and become a mono headset.

If you leave them as a headset at all times, you only have mono sound. If you use them as stereo headphones, you will lose your audio out every time the microphone is used. It does not seem to be possible for them to appear to the computer as a pair of headphones and a microphone, so you cannot have stereo audio (possibly using something like Power Mixer to send your call to one ear and some other source of audio to the other) while using the microphone.

I recently bought these Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT headphones to replace an old pair of Sennheiser HD 208 headphones. My first impressions are that the audio quality is very nice. There is a clarity and space to the sound that is immediately noticeable.

I mainly use them for listening to music, playing games and watching films. I’ve never used any headphones through amplifiers or DACs, which I have heard can give you better quality, but the quality through both the wired and wireless connection methods has made a good impression on me.

I have tried them on my laptop, on a PS4 and Switch through the wired connection, and also via Bluetooth on my phone and laptop. I did have an issue connected through Bluetooth on my Macbook Pro from 2010, where it would disconnect often, but that may be due to the age of the computer and the Bluetooth version.

On my iPhone 7, however, there were no issues connecting or staying connected. Based on the music I have listened to with these headphones, from film scores such as Jerry Goldsmith’s Alien and James Horner’s Avatar to pop and more modern tracks from Michael Jackson and Daft Punk, for example, it is easy to become immersed in the sound.

The different instruments are clearly discernible in the mix and I have noticed things that I didn’t know were there before, which has been really wonderful. The reason why I have given 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the way the sound is perceived to me.

There is definitely a dimensionality to the sound, to the point where it does sound like you are in the middle of the music. However, to my ears, it feels like the mix sits slightly behind where I expect the sound to be.

I can hear the sound behind and around me, and also in the centre of my head, but some of the headphones I am used to place the sound slightly more forward, which I prefer. When comparing the old headphones to these, they are definitely not as clear, but with the M50xBT headphones, where the sound sits doesn’t quite feel right to me.

I have read that these headphones are very good for critical listening, such as studio mixing, and now I understand this, as everything can be heard very clearly. I thought they would be suited to my ears, but unfortunately I will have to continue looking for the right pair for me.

Despite the one issue I have with the M50xBTs, I would recommend them to others. They give a lovely, clear sound within a wide space. They are very comfortable and isolate noise from the outside well.

I only needed to charge them once, and the battery has lasted already for over a week of use, although I haven’t used them wirelessly that much. For what they offer, they are definitely good value for money, just not the right ones for me.

I hope these comments can be useful for those considering the M50xBT headphones.

It’s really 4 1/2 stars only because there is a known fault in the cable connector in the headphones. It cuts out when you move sometimes but an email to BeyerDynamic with receipt and serial number gets a speedy replacement of the 2 cables and i had a bonus 3m coiled cable too.

Perfect now. Sound quality as simple as I can. amazing. Compared to DT990 80ohm which I have. in simple terms more bass. better flatter frequency response. less of the shrill Beyer peak around the 7k to 10khz mark which I am grateful for and a slight rise in the upper treble like cymbals etc.

which I can now hear more clearly. Great sound stage and imaging. voices sound amazing. I am 62 and my hearing is bad in the upper treble hence these suit me with the slight rise in the upper treble that might not suit everyone but a definite plus is the “Beyer Peak” has been reduced enough for me.

These could be my final headphones to keep. I’ve been through many. They seemed to get better after after several hours of use. Whether people think its your brain adjusting to the sound or the electrical properties and the driver settling in, who knows.

Store Dj were great too.

It is a must have for those who care for the audio and are ready to go any extent. The headphones when removed from the box felt a bit heavy, but I am wearing them for hours on end and i don’t feel the weight.

A good source is a must. I have paired it with Astell & Kern PEE51, with a PC running ROON. The holographic imaging is amazing, straight out of the box. And in my opinion it WILL get better as i burn it in.

Instruments have amazing texture and bite. My earlier IEM are RHA T20, the sound stage of the Beyerdynamic is super huge in comparison. The only thing i was apprehensive is whether a open back headphones will have the bass, and I can say it is deep and full bodied.

Great for critical listening, a high quality music library is a must (320k MP3 or better). They have a very even profile with a treble bump that’s not as high as many other Beyerdynamic models. The pads are firm and even, so with glasses you don’t lose bass.

I think they should sound pretty consistent because of the way they fit (not like mushy memory foam which can vary the sound stage). They aren’t difficult to drive, on the phone they got loud but on the amp/dac stack they really showed off the detail they can reveal.

It’s good for a music lover who doesn’t want to buy an amplifier, at 45 ohm it’s not needed. They scale with the quality of what you plug them into, so pretty future-proof. These I’d be happy to wear in public too, really sleek looking.

If you’re looking for a “rockin’ loud very “squawky” sounding pair of cans. Then these headphones may just be up your alley. These headphones are like a rocker’s Beats by Dr. Dre, the mid-range is abundantly obvious when you slip these on your head, right away I noticed vocals, instruments, and the tight punchy kickdrums from rock and other acoustic sounding music such as jazz.

But for rap, electronic and any genres that have sinewave bass, that require the bass to be felt and feature big thumpin’ kicking basslines, well that’s where these headphones began to fall short. I would also not recommend these for pipe organ renditions where the low notes can be felt.

The Rockville PRO-M50’s have surely earned their name if you just want to “rock out” to your music with greatly reduced bass, quiet muddy sounding dull treble, and very clear almost harsh upper mid-range.

For the price at around $40+ I was very disappointed with the sound quality and expected a lot more better in comparison with other $40+ headphones I have owned including a pair of JVC HA-RX700’s. Currently I own a a pair of $16 Koss UR-20’s and those far exceed the Rockville PRO-M50’s for less than half the amount in terms of sound quality blows it straight out the water! But build quality and comfort as one can imagine for the price is nowhere near these screeching screamers HOWEVER, the UR-20’s are NOT terrible when it comes to the comfort and the build quality either.

The hard leather zipper case is very good quality that will surely protect these cans in the long run. The detachable coiled up 4ft by default cord is a breath of fresh air, where you have a market saturated with headphones that feature cords that are by default 11+ft, non detachable and non coiled.

Overall 3 and a half stars for the sound, and 10 stars for the comfort and sure wearability for these little screamers.

This item was a slightly used item, but looks great and new, No cosmetic damage at all. Comes with a gold 1/4 inch adapter, extra suede ear pads, a long coil cable with gold adapters. And even a headphone case! So that’s all nice, but I’m going to state the pros and cons of this item.

Pros: Looks almost like an Audio Technica M40 or M50s. The swivel forks on the cups are plastic but feels sturdy, so it feels like it will last a while. This is a 50 dollar headphone so if you compare it to a 100 dollar headphone you’ll hear the difference if you are really into audio. They layperson either will not care or can’t tell the difference.

I noticed that the Audio Techinica has some thin felt or foamy material placed behind the cups so I put them behind the ear pads of the Rockville and to my surprise, it enhanced the bass a bit, making them more enjoyable.

I guess the material reduces echoes and makes the sound cleaner. Still not as loud as I’d like but it was a neat experiment and made them more enjoyable. If Rockville makes a more expensive model with slightly better sound I’d check it out.

My point is that you get what you pay for, The Rockville’s have a great physical build but sound will not be as good as more expensive headphones. If you are on a budget then these will work for you and not cost you a lot.

I don’t have any other Headphone Sets for Comparison, though I think these ones do have a Very Good Quality Sound for Flat Response Monitoring, or even for occasional general purpose listening. Comfort is important for anyone I think, and these are comfortable, they sit nicely on the Head, They fit nicely around the Ears, and they are lightweight.

There is good Spacial Room when wearing them, they are not too tightly enclosed on the ears, yet they are still firmly fitting. Soundwise, I would say they sound Clean and Precise, and overall the sound is Excellent.

I was at first a little skeptical regarding the Plastic Housing construction but it seems many Headphones have Plastic Housing, even more expensive headphones are constructed with similar materials. Technology is quite advanced these days, and the materials used in the construction actually feel good and surprisingly sturdy despite the light weight.

The Leather initially seems a little on the thin side, but again I’m surprised at how the quality is good, it’s soft and comfortable, and I have no intentions to be providing any harsh treatment to these Headphones, so as I’m becoming more familiar with them I think they will last for quite a while actually, they should last years to come yet.

The Case they come with is Good, and provide good general protective care for everyday usage and storage. Extra Ear Pads are a bonus, and the Case and Extra Pads were one of the deciding factors in my purchase, other than the quality of the Headphone of course which is Primary.

The Lead is detachable from the Headphones, and seems like a good lead with good quality fittings also, keeping with the good quality of these Headphones, for an overall good quality listening experience.

At this stage I’ve had them for a couple of weeks, and honestly I’m impressed with these Headphones. Personally I think I made a Good Choice in my selection to purchase them, and considering the reasonably low cost I think they are Great Value along with the Case and Extra Pads, but more importantly the Sound Quality is Excellent, and that’s what’s needed most with a good set of Headphones.

Taking Cost into relative consideration, I’m giving this 5 Stars.

I originally bought the Rockville DJ1500 headphones, but quickly realized I needed headphones more suitable for mixing. I immediately left a message saying I wanted to exchange for the pro-m50 instead, which worked out, so I am pleased with how they handled that.

when I got these headphones, the box looked like it was opened before, but everything inside the box was fine and as described. The headphones were lightweight but seemed sturdy and able to take abuse.

There is nothing fancy about the packaging, unlike name brand headphones, and I believe this is a good sign that the money went more toward their product and not presentation. I can tell you that once I tried these headphones, I was shocked.

The bass was refined, deep, and controlled. it also felt perfectly balanced for mixing. the midrange was what really surprised me. for such a budget pricetag, these headphones really blew me away with the accuracy of the midrange, especially for a closed back headphone.

dare I say, I may even have heard details that i did not previously hear on my expensive open back headphones. Not in the sense of clarity, both are really clear, but the neutrality of the rockvilles is really something, so nothing is masked or over-emphasized.

the highs are also balanced, accurate, and not harsh. I truly believe that the rockville pro m50 is the refined and affordable cousin of the audio technica ath m50x. the only possible complaint I could have is that the earcups are rather small for my large ears, but thats not really a flaw, its just sort of an unlikely but inconvenient type of problem.

I can still wear these for quite some time. As a hobbyist musician on a budget, and a music lover, I whole heartedly recommend these headphones to anyone looking for a well rounded balanced sound with extreme detail, and anyone who produces music and is looking for a good pair of closed backs.

Got these today, took them out of the beautiful hard case they come in and connected the cord, which is very nice and has a great solid tight jack on the headphone side. Plugged them into my 1W +1W headphone amplifier and oh my god, their name is well deserved, seriously these ROCK! Whoever said these are bass shy, isn’t using a powerful enough headphone amplifier, these have bass for days with a proper amp, you could probably even increase bass response by adding some thin dense foam to the inside of the driver enclosures.

The build quality is excellent and so is the sound, they are absolutely right about these being as good as more expensive headphones, at least in my opinion, these are an absolutely excellent value.

So couple of quick nit picks, the ear pads are now a hair too shallow- enough to be ever so mildly bothersome as my ears just touch the inside a bit now and then. Second, and this is honestly more of a preference issue- the cable is alas far too short for my uses.

I wouldn’t even mention this normally as stock cables should be tossed out most of the time, but the included single ended cable is actually surprisingly good- custom cable from Hart solved that minor quibble.

Now the not necessarily great but not bad- the weight. Yeah, they are heavy. If they are heavy enough to cause you serious discomfort honestly you probably should be wearing them to build up your neck muscles(check with your physician obviously, and I’m like.

25. 6% joking with that comment). On to the sound. I’ve had several pair of headphones that have wowed me over the years, put them on fire up a good quality recording and been floored. These to a shocking degree had *almost* none of that.

Took a bit of listening to figure out why, but I did. First time you hear say the 650s you notice that lush midrange, put on some 2Cs and that bass and warm smoothness just oozes out of its pores, the 800S you get this massive width and hyper detailed highs.

All of those I like to throw some EQ at to get them to a happy spot, but prior to touching them with anything they all had those characteristics that stick with them even after you have them tailored to your tastes.

These sounded a hair dark, just a hair, but otherwise unremarkable. At this point you are likely thinking how are these five star? I mentioned the bass on the 2Cs of an example as something that pops out and gives you some wow factor, the bass on these is even better and yet, it doesn’t stand out unless you pay attention.

That is the story across the spectrum. Any frequency range you focus on sounds spectacular, but perfectly in line with all the other ranges. I’d say the only notable gap is between vocals and instruments, vocals sound great, instruments sound on a different level.

The notable exception for these standing out was when I put on some old school rock. AC/DC was. wow, NOW we are talking. Across the board these just love rock. They don’t sound bad on any genre I have tried, classical, jazz, metal, R&B, rap, techno/EDM, folk- but they are so utterly in their element when cranking out AC/DC, Led Zep, G&R etc.

Soundstage seems quite small to me unless the recording is trying to sound open, think like in Alice in Chains ‘Rooster’, but it only seems to really open up when the recording is pushing the issue. Separation of instruments and vocals is spectacular and ability to locate the direction of sound origins is fantastic, but these are certainly closer to the Senn 600 family then something like the Arya or 800S.

Detail retrieval is well ahead of anything I’ve heard in the $1200 and under market. I haven’t seen anyone do this and I kind of wish they would so I’m going to throw out my very personal grades on how these do for each musical category.

Rock- A+ Best I have heard for the genre Rap B+ Very detailed bass and very clear Jazz A- Fantastic instrument separation and detail, lack of staging leaves it lagging the very best Classical B+ Similar to jazz but the lack of staging is even more of a hinderance Techno/EDM A On some tracks best I’ve heard, never bad that I’ve witnessed R&B- B- When you have acoustical instruments overlaid with rich vocals you really lose something from the vocals Metal A I wish there were more top tier quality recordings of metal albums these are very forgiving on poor recordings though Pop/R&R B+ Similar issues with R&B but the more processed sound of the genre makes it less glaring These grades are based against other headphones in this rough price range- I think the worst these cans could possibly do would still be better then any Apple/Beats type gear by miles.

Audeze LCD-X headphones have gained impressive reviews in Hi Fi journals such as Stereophile and in consumer fora. Those reviews are justified. These are excellent transducers. I assessed them via an ATC pre amp, an Oppo 205 universal player and an Audiolab MDAC+ digital/analogue converter.

I listened to a variety of media including hi resolution audio files, Blu Ray Audio Discs, SACD’s, CD’s some of which I had mastered myself ( therefore, I am aware of the sound of the original sources and vinyl records.

In terms of musical genres, I included, symphonic, choral and chamber music, jazz and popular titles. The Audeze headphones displayed high order detail retrieval, accurate but not exaggerated imaging, timbral accuracy, even response across the frequency spectrum with extended high frequencies and deep bass, transparency, wide sound stage and faithful presentation of scale even when it was massive such as in the Berlioz Requiem.

There was an unforced naturalness to their sonic presentation and perhaps most importantly, they were musically coherent as opposed to clinically analytical. Their quality was immediately apparent and there was further improvement over 50-75 hours of use.

The stock headphone cable performs well and is probably sufficient for the needs of most. However, I did also try a Moon Audio Black Premium headphone cable and there were worthwhile gains in resolution, timbral saturation, high frequency richness, soundstage, transparency and musicality.

Although they are expensive, for what these headphones achieve, their price is more than fair. They are robustly constructed and ultimately are something of a high end audio classic that perform brilliantly in all musical genres.

Very strongly recommended.

LCD X is heavy – let’s get that out of the way. These are heavy planars and you will feel it. It caused some neck pain past the 2 hour mark for a couple of days and I guess it will take some time to get used to.

I was used to Sundara’s weight but this was a step up. Though these are heavy they get super comfortable and you can easily wear them for 4+ hours once you get used to it. The pads are really soft and form a great seal.

The adjustment rods feel a bit loose but don’t slip once adjusted and you wear it on the head. Overall these are well built with a good cable and I don’t have many complaints apart from the weight. The sound is great – exactly what you would have read in other reviews.

I have EQ’d them with Oratory EQ and love the sound over the stock sound. It enhances the timbre, sound stage and bass greatly – highly recommend EQ’ing them. I have it running with a Zen stack and I almost use half volume in 3rd gain setting.

They are easy to power per specs – I’ve tested with my Fiio K3 and Qudelix5k so I know they don’t need a lot of power but feels like they respond well to more power and sound great with Zen Can. Don’t have a better dac/amp than that – may consider upgrading there to see if sound quality improves.

Overall these are definitely an upgrade – I upgraded from Sennheiser HD660s and Hifiman Sundara – these feel like significant step ups with bass, detail retrieval, imaging and even soundstage. For music genres of EDM, rock, metal these will serve well as an endgame.

I can’t say that they’re not great for vocals or classical as they seem better there too. Will have to listen to the competitors like Arya or Clear MG to know what these don’t do well at but for now these are a great set of endgame planars.

Great price for a competent balanced headphone with an accurate, if slightly underpowered, sound. They’re hard to beat for the money.

A top monitor headphone as advertised. Great tight bass with balanced sound maintained. Build quality is both solid and flexible. Strong wire connection that is not too long. The blue black special edition looks great.

All that plastic takes getting used to- the headphone lasts and remains in one piece. The ear pads are not the best. Despite this, the isolation and passive noise cancelling is excellent. Love the sound.

It is great for pleasure listening, but it can also be used for stage and studio. Not a flat sounding headphone because of the bass impact, but highly detailed with a decent Soundstage. Immersive and addictive; in the same conversation with the flatter sounding AKG K371.

In my headphone collection, it is top shelf. It’s that good in comparison to strong alternatives.

After watching many review videos and reading a lot of Blogs, I replaced a set of Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones. The Sennheisers were comparably priced but not in their ability to deliver quality audio for the work I do when editing in video post.

The fact that you can also buy replacement ear-muffs for the ATH-M50x is a great plus as well. The Sennheiser’s lost their outer “faux” leather material and look awful with no option to do anything about it.

If you are like myself, and don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend but looking for the best you can get for the money without sacrificing performance pick yourself up a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones.

The difference between Audio-Technica ATH-M50x and anything else out their is negligible to the ability of the human ear to hear it. I am super happy with this purchase.

Everything about these headphones is fantastic, the sound is unbelievably clear and clean, especially at this price. I ordered them not sure if they would come because of the “refurbished” name but they came in 5 days (fast delivery) My one and only complaint would be the comfort, however my head is a bit bigger and after a few days you get used to wearing them.

They are built like a tank, they have a slot of oscillation which is handy sometimes, and the soundstage is wide and great for gaming as well as music. Overall the best purchase I’ve made in a while :).

Pro – very good sound – Pro [in my view] not Bluetooth (One wonders why one would want to have to charge yet another device and experience battery drain from Bluetooth usage on a mobile). All in all I would buy it again and again as indeed I have over quite some time now! Recommended.

There aren’t really any negatives however I would say the wire can get a bit tangled but such is the way of things – this is really hardly a criticism. It certainly won’t stop me buying them that’s for sure – and another word on that – they are long lasting though after some years I did have a pair stop working but again; such is the way of things in life.

Sony can always be trusted for little cheapo headphones. I have had pairs like this for years at a time and really only replace them when I lose them. Of course, once I buy a new set, I usually find the old ones.

These babies work well if you want to plug them into your ps4 controller to game with friends, and they work well to block out noise and listen to music while running heavy equipment. You can hear over the noise of a tractor’s PTO running a 10 in diameter auger carrying corn or soybeans up into a grain silo (bin).

If you haven’t experienced that, I will just tell you it’s a lot of decibels. I will always pick these over clunky, over ear headsets that never fit right and just make your ears sweat. You can speak and hear clearly (usually even over a tractor) when you pair it with your phone.

I am still old school enough that I don’t want to lose one earbud or not be able to listen to music because I ran out of battery. I think it’s stupid to limit yourself to 8 hrs of use just so you don’t have to deal with a harmless cord.

To each their own. These babies last for years. I have them in blue and white and like to have a spare set in my purse or backpack at all times.

I’ve been using this style of earbuds from Sony for a good 10 years. The sound quality is great, I can control my playlist and make calls. Usually one pair will last for years before I lose all the silicone tips or get a bud stuck in the car door and break the wire.

This pair I bought barely a year ago, and while they still function to listen to media, they’re no good for anything else. When I try to make a phone call, the person on the other end only hears static when I answer.

The glitchy wiring randomly either shoots the media volume up to 100% or drops it down to zero, and it’s constantly trying to activate the Google assistant on my phone (which I have disabled). There’s no visible tears or kinks in the cord, so the inner copper wire must be subpar.

I’ll keep this pair only for listening to music/vids, but I’ll have to invest in another headset for hands free. For $30 I expect better.
