This book allows one toexplore thoughts and intents of peoples hearts. Does the criminal think or act or even speak differently than a Normal perdon? what motivates the Criminal? What is thinking that implies criminal beliefs/ faulty beliefs? This book has the answers!.

I am an alternative HS teacher and I require all of my students to read and report on this book. This book does a very good job of helping you understand how criminals think. You can do a mental checklist of if you see signs of criminal behavior in yourself or of people you meet and/or work with.

I think everyone should read this book to understand people better. On the flipside there are a few chapters in the book that do get a little dry and I found myself struggling to stay awake. Even with the few dry chapters, it is definitely a good book.

FOR LAW PROFESSIONALS, TUTORS AND LEARNERS An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers We became aware of Professor Newburn’s new work on both theoretical and applied criminology from BTEC.

This book is well suited for the beginner, the professional training to become involved in any or all aspects of the criminal justice process, and the interested learner whose career may overlap with the role of the criminologist in the public services.

When we started teaching Criminology for the law undergraduate some 20 years ago, the basis of theoretical criminology had remained relatively static although some exciting new studies had appeared linking research from the Chicago School and anomie with the overtly political New Criminology and expanding feminist/gender issues.

Mixing these strands of radical and realist theories with the complete confusion of current applied criminology measures and the failures of the legal framework of modern law enforcement is a monumental modern task and Newburn excels with his objective in this modern work presented with thought and just the right amount of detail.

The use of additional website support for both learners and tutors is another plus factor. We were unsure of how well the illustrations would fit in here as we have written a number of different versions of the basic content of this book for other organisations at both GCE and undergraduate level and found merging the dry written word with charts, tables and photographs actually does help when presenting the subject to learners where we use differentiation practice Our most recent teaching assignments required the teaching of part of this subject for BTEC Public Services courses and from reflective practice, we do recommend this book as a great primer for those who need a framework of criminology for their public service careers.

It blends the wholly academic elements with the vocational aspects of BTEC highly effectively and gets the balance right for the range of learners we have. The contents cover 36 headings in six parts.

Like the views of our colleagues teaching this subject, there are always going to be problems with keeping this work up to date for Parts 4, 5 and 6. Reforming criminal justice, its current critical issues, and researching criminology which we are currently reading for post graduate studies is tackled well, and we would envisage web involvement being much more important as this work goes into another edition.

Clearly, Newburn’s broad approach is to be welcomed because it is accessible and authoritative being lively at all times with an intellectual sparkle which gives the reader encouragement to explore controversial issues: all the more controversial as ‘law’n’order’ remains at the top of the political agenda with the economy, presumably remaining so for some time to come.

Tim Newburn’s experience shines through brilliantly here, and we know our colleagues who teach this subject welcome his approach as being at the top of the tree for either BTEC or the more formal academic qualifications.

It is the best book of its type for us at the moment, linking the more established teaching with innovation at a time of turbulence in the Home Office- extracts are great for PowerPoint, too, even though PPPs are not everybody’s ideal for teaching, but it works with Newburn’s approach so thank you, Willan Publishing, for this contribution to the teaching of criminology today.

Very good. Excellent information and extremely thorough. If you live in the states like I do just be aware that most of it has to do with the UK. But haven’t come across a better book.

Im studying criminology at university and this book has helped me understand my subject a lot better. Would definitely recommend if you have an interest in or study criminology.

Ms Sidney Powell is a formidable lawyer who can see the whole picture. Here she plainly chronicles her experience of some tough lawfare by unaccountable US Government agencies. A compelling read for anyone interested in what really happens behind the headlines.

And she’s not done yet. You can also see her interviewed in the recent documentary, The Plot Against The President.

Sydney Powells book is enlightening, frightening, and appalling. Powell shows how federal prosecutors fabricated a crime then illegally withheld exculpatory evidence in the Ted Stevens and Enron trials.

Some of these prosecutors are still in responsible positions in our society. Andrew Weismann is high in Muellers Special Counsel. And Judicial Watch just revealed, through FOIA requests, that Mueller was using these same illegal tactics in 2002 when he withheld exculpatory evidence from a FISA court.

Powell Is compelling and frightening in revealing Just how corrupt some in our justice system are.

This book contends that Enron defendants and U. S. Senator Ted Stevens were treated unjustly by the federal criminal justice system. It’s complete hogwash, but great for background on Sidney Powell, the nutcase defense attorney for Michael Flynn and promoting bogus election conspiracy theories for Trump.

Been a fan of the series for years. Eames and Goren were always my favorite characters so this final season has them in the highlight. I find Gorens sessions with a mandatory psychiatrist provides a real insite into the Goren character.

Highly recommended. I wanted to be able to binge watch rather than watch the reruns.

Sadly, this was the last year for LOCI. It was one of my favorite shows of all times. Anything with Vincent D’Onodrio is very entertaining. He is a great actor and so underrated and ignored when awards were given out.

Thank goodness these DVD’s are available so that I can get my LOCI fix on demand.

A bittersweet ending to a fine series. I would have loved more seasons.

This story is about the unrelenting effort that many,many people put into solving the case of the golden state murders that occurred in California in the 1970s/1980s. People were terrified that the killer would break into their homes and kill them.

He was creepy, terrifying, skilled and always eluded capture. Police retired, people forgot and the case went cold. However thousands of everyday people became sleuths and continued to search for justice on public notice boards and all sorts of places to bring this murderer to justice.

The author Michelle was one of those sleuths. She tracked down leads and worked with ex police to gain information. Together they worked with forensic scientists always keeping the case in people’s minds and keeping up to date with any new technological develops such as DNA improvements.

Then one day it happened, technology such as DNA and websites such as ancestry came together and put the puzzle together. Unfortunately, the author died before she found out the killers identity. However her husband finished the book for her.

This is the story of the killer and all the crimes he committed and it is very detailed. You can feel the tension and fear that the communities felt during the times of the killer’s crime wave. You also feel sad that many of the victim’s families and friends may not be still around to know that the killer will finally be brought to justice.

This is a thorough,methodical and concise book with a clear timeline of events with all the information there is to know. Wonderfully written. This also became a tv show on Netflix which was excellent.

Terrifying.

Both a New York Times #1 bestseller and a HBO documentary series about one woman’s [Michelle McNamara], ultimate sacrifice that began with her obsessive search as a true crime writer for the predator she coined the Golden State Killer and ended with her death and his capture.

As a true crime enthusiast and criminal justice major, I was so enthralled by her writing and the material that I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I had been following the case on true crime podcasts and websites the last ten years and trying to put the puzzle pieces together myself, so to read her book and watch the documentary made me feel like I was part of the investigation.

She brought the case to life and the documentary brought her to life. I highly recommend this meticulously written and investigated book and the documentary about what pushed her to write it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

I absolutely loved this book! I bought it for a book club I’m in (Hey Peter Monn of YouTube!). Michelle’s ability to humanize and make real the victims, was exceptional. Too many times we know more about the killer than we do the victims.

Michelle weaved in the personal accounts of the victims and the family members into the cold facts making it an easier to read account of what could have been a boring story to tell with so many facts and numbers.

The chapter at the end read by her husband, Patton Oswalt, was bittersweet. What brought me to tears was Michelle’s own letter in the epilogue called “Letter To An Old Man”. I can only pray that one day DeAngelo – the now known and caught killer – will read this while he rots in a jail cell.

I hope even more that Michelle can somehow witness it. RIP Michelle. You’ve left us all with a treasure.

I did not know what to expect from this book but found that it was very well written, and easy to read, regarding the politics in the United States Senate over the last forty some years. The topic, supprisingly, was not about Justice Kavanaugh but how politics is affecting the justice system, as it is in almost every area of the government, and how very partisan it has become.

It identifies the classless behaviour of our elected officials, on both sides of the isle, as well as examples of statesmanship. The authors, by using Justice Kavanaugh as an example, show the citizens what individuals have been going through when appointed, how unfair the process is to them, and the affect it has on their families and friendships.

To gain the full effect of their research this book must be read with an open mind, if not I think that one would miss out of the full effect of their research and miss out on a reason to be more involved in the political process to bring honor back to politics.

Anyone who is interested in politics, the law and/or general government would want to get this book. The Supreme Court is supposed to be the least partisan branch of government. The liberals have turned the Supreme Court into an oligarchy and the most (evil) partisan branch of the government.

I “hope” that God will ultimately “punish” the liberals.

Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation was an embarrassment. Here you have a bunch of democratic attorneys disguised as senators, without any evidence, charging him with the most heinous crime imaginable, sexual assault.

This book sets the record straight.

Honestly, I have not read the book yet, but I bought this novel knowing that Tami Hoag is the very best suspense writer I have ever encountered. I have read several of her books already and she never fails.

I love Tami Hoag and have read everyone of her books. Prior Bad Acts was another great book that I couldn’t put down. I love all the twists and turns in her plot and I can’t wait to read the next book she has out.

I must say that my favorite part was the end when everything falls into place and all questions are answered. I don’t want to say to much about the ending so that way if you haven’t read it I won’t ruin it for you.

But all I can say is I never would have guessed it was who it was and I never would have guessed that he would do what he did to those little girls and there mother. I hope I didn’t ruin the end for anyone.

This novel was a little more killing in it then other books I have read by her. The characters where a little bit more sinister in there thinking also. It seems like she has gotten away from the romance aspect of her books a little and focused more on the murder/crimes.

But I still loved the book and would recomened to to anyone. If you have read any of Tami’s books before you know that she keeps you on the edge of your seat untill the very end every time.

All of the suspense novels by Tami Hoag are awesome! Very hard to put down!

I was so excited to see this book is the first in a new series! Lynette Eason is one of my go-to authors for suspense and stories that keep me guessing, so a new series from her is always exciting! The cover was definitely the first thing that caught my eye, and though I’m often told not to “judge a book by its cover,” I honestly think you can with this one.

It definitely lives up to the beautiful and intriguing cover art! As always, Ms. Eason did an excellent job with the mystery/suspense! She kept me me guessing with twists and turns, loose threads, and more questions than answers, before tying it all together with a unique ending! I so enjoy how she weaves a story, somehow keeping straight all of the new characters, the mystery, and all of the minute details that goes along with both.

Her details and descriptions pull me right into the story, often making it seem as though I was right there with the characters, chasing down leads, following information, and in Izzy’s case, keeping away from the bad guys.

One of my favorite things about a new series is the chance to meet and fall in love with a whole new cast of characters and I’m so looking forward to getting to know the St. John family even better! I so appreciated meeting this large family, with siblings that razz one another, but are also only a phone call away.

They had me laughing in a story where laughter wasn’t necessarily expected, and willing each one of them to safety in dangerous professions. Izzy St. John is strong, willful (something of a requirement in her family), determined, honorable, and a survivor.

Her story isn’t an easy one, but there is grace and hope found within it. I also quite enjoyed getting to know Ryan Marshall, despite the circumstances around our acquaintance. I appreciated how the author decided to handle the romance between them, keeping it mostly in the background, but not so much that it was forgotten or seemed an afterthought.

This was my first book by Lynette Eason, but it definitely won’t be my last! Oath of Honor is the first book in her new Blue Justice series and tells the story of the St. John family. It is a thrilling romantic suspense novel that kept me guessing the whole time.

I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next! Isabelle St. John’s partner Kevin Marshall is murdered while they are on a stakeout, and Kevin’s detective brother Ryan joins her on the search for answers to his brother’s death.

Their search for answers leads them both into danger and no one is safe, including many people they are close to, and Izzy and Ryan don’t know who they can trust. There is also a chance for romance as Izzy and Ryan realize their feelings for each other may led to more than friendship.

The book reminded a lot of the TV show Blue Bloods, which is one of my favorite shows. The St. John family is large family whose members almost all have careers in law enforcement. I love the family dynamic between the six St.

John siblings and their parents (including their chief of police mother) and how they still get together for family dinners despite their busy schedules. I know readers will fall in love with the St.

John family just like I did. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!.

The Blue Justice series is going to be fantastic from start to finish, if this book is any clue. The family dynamics are the best thing about this story, though that isn’t to say other stuff isn’t also good.

The intricacies of the plot, various story arcs, and the many characters that played major roles in the story were all well pulled together. I really appreciated the faith thread and the great amount of action scenes: two things I look for in Christian suspense books.

Ms. Eason’s author voice has grown stronger through the years, and it seems like this series has the potential to be her best yet. (I hate to say that, because I loved her Women of Justice series so much, but it might be time for me to claim a new favorite of her series.

Everybody’s read it — just about — at least those in legal circles or claims to have read it. And if you’ll excuse the cliche, it seems to have ruffled more than a few feathers. But all the better. As a scathing expose of the most conspicuous flaws in the criminal justice system in England and Wales,’ The Secret Barrister’ can safely be described as unique.

Certainly, the power of the book derives overwhelmingly from the personal experiences and insights of its author, ‘the secret barrister. ’ The anecdotes in it and the homely analogies range from the hilarious to the horrific.

And as any barrister can tell you, whether practising in the criminal or civil courts, the revelations it contains are authentic. Although some readers (but not many) might disagree with some of the opinions expressed, the book has undoubtedly been a publishing sensation for its publisher, Macmillan, and Picador.

The focus of the book is the criminal — rather than the civil — justice system and all those connected with it; from judges and magistrates to the court staff and the defendants themselves, not to mention the state of most of the court buildings; some growing old gracefully, others positively decrepit, but not quite crumbling into the dust just yet.

Naturally there’s been a lot of speculation about who the ‘secret barrister’ is, with some barristers suspecting – because of the sheer number and variety of cases discussed – that this secretive, publicity-shy individual is more than one person.

Nonetheless, the secret of the authorship of this book is a lot less important than what’s written in it. ‘I can understand,’ says our secret author, ‘why people might only think of criminal justice in the abstract,’ never anticipating any personal involvement in it, or having any familiarity with it whatsoever, except through watching courtroom dramas on TV.

Big mistake, implies the author who warns, speculatively at least, that… ‘it is certain that at one point in your life, you or someone you love will be in a criminal courtroom’, whether as a juror, witness, or victim, or possibly even worse, someone accused of something you didn’t do.

What you or anyone in any of these situations will hope for, or expect, is fairness, which according to this passionately disillusioned lawyer, is sometimes in short supply. One example is the way some magistrates tend to prefer to believe police testimony rather than that of the defendant, even when supported by several witnesses.

In the words of the author, the book’s basic aim is ‘to explore why criminal justice matters and to show how I think we are getting it so wrong. ’ Offering much to contemplate and get furious about, the book will resonate equally with civil court practitioners, particularly over such annoyances as, says the author, ‘the matter of court listings (which) take little account of barristers’ availability’ — and on occasions when they do, there’s a climate of chaos, delay and adjournments ‘that often conspire to make you unavailable.

’ And what about the now quite commonplace practice (or is it a necessity?) of switching cases from one court to another, with little or no notice given to the participants in a case, namely the lawyers and their bewildered clients who – on the same day – have to scramble into cars or public transport to reach the ‘correct’ court, which is usually miles away on the other side of town, or often in another town altogether.

To put these matters in some sort of perspective, it is fair to say that no human institution is perfect. But it’s not good to have too many imperfections either. What is alarming about this book is that someone felt compelled to write it in the first place; someone who felt compelled to conceal his or her identity.

But secret or not, the author is quite obviously a barrister, which does give the book its immediacy, authenticity and clout. While most people will live out their lives without coming up against the criminal justice system, the rule of law impacts on everyone and anything serious that threatens it is not a good thing.

Recall for example, that the number of prosecutions has been reduced by about half. So how much criminal activity is going unchecked to the detriment of public safety? It has also been announced that the overall budget for the Ministry of Justice, has been cut by 40%.

These are serious issues and it is encouraging that so many readers have come to view such developments with concern just by reading this book. Good thing that ‘The Secret Barrister’ is now out in paperback from 4th April 2019.

I was expecting something lighter in this book by the secret barrister, based on a few listens to the abridged series on BBC recently. But then I realised that the abridger had gone for the wittier and easier-listening parts of the book.

Frankly, reading this book made my blood run cold. After years and years of cuts, our legal system is now a dangerous disgrace. Good luck to anyone, innocent or not who falls foul of it. The secret barrster lays it out clearly in its full horror, though the tale is told with a light touch and considerable wit.

Excellent read. Just shows how messed up our court systems are, where things like false allegations just from someones word, can lead to an innocent person being sent to prison. This Barrister shows empathy, towards people who are caught up on the wrong sized of the law, who are innocent, with no voice.

By writing this fantastic book!.

This is a Great chair. It feels sturdy and has a pillow that comes in handy. I have the Ohio State chair and it’s colors are bright. I took to Myrtle beach and got a lot of compliments. Time will tell how it holds up to the others I’ve had for 25 years.
