20 Best Harnesses For Small Dogs (2023 Updated)

We’ve been looking for the perfect harness for our 16lb dachshund for ages. We’ve been through a few but they never seem to be right. This one is. Although I think we got one size too large for her, it still works well for her cinched to the tightest setting.

They have this really well thought out ‘locking’ slider thing that holds the straps into place when the leash isn’t pulled taut. Really smart. My one criticism is that the plastic clasps and rings on it feels a little cheap.

Like, I expect the clasp will be the first thing to break on this. Those little plastic slider clasps always seem to break eventually but this one makes me feel like it will not last a year. That is unfortunate as the overall design is very impressive and works very well.

If it does break, I’ll likely buy another but will probably shop for a different manufacturer to see if this weakpoint is addressed better. Just a slightly more robust plastic would have made this thing absolutely perfect.

Overall, really good harness at a decent price.

I spent years trying to find a harness to fit my Shih Tzu. It doesn’t matter the brand, the X-small is always too small and the small is too big. But the medium of this harness fits perfectly. We ended up going back to the store and getting another one for a friend who had the same sizing issues.

The fact this is also an escape free harness (I have had issues with my boy getting out) is a bonus. It seems to work but I’ve only had it for about a a week now. The only downside is the rings are plastic instead of metal like other harnesses.

They’re also big so it’s chunky at times getting a leash attached. But I find that’s a minor drawback for a harness that actually fits.

This was the third time I had visited your store for a harness for my puppy. The first two purchases did not fit her correctly, I live by a very busy road, and wanted Sadie (my puppy) to be more than extra safe when I took her outside.

So, on my third visit, I brought Sadie with me. Dave helped us find the right harness, right fit, and Sadie was very comfortable with Dave while he fitted her in the right harness. I was treated well the other two times I visited your store.

Dave is an exceptional employee. you should be very thankful to have someone as committed as he is in not only making the animal customer happy, but their human as well!!! A big thank you to Dave!! Sadie loves her new harness and I feel she is as safe as she can be in it!.

Sizing is way off. My chihuahua measures 16 inches in the chest. Based on the size chart for this harness, she should take a size medium. She is swimming in the medium. I also tried a size small recently and that one is too large also.

Someone isn’t paying attention to quality control, and the company isn’t paying attention either. What a way to run a business.

I love the harness! It’s so soft and gentle for our Yorkie puppy that’s 6 months old. The one thing that was not expected is it’s a little big around her neck which could be my fault for allowing just a little growth room.

So I will order a different color in extra small for a change. The XS from a different company was too small. Thinking it may not run true to size. But it is a great product.

If you have had issues with other harnesses chafing your dog’s skin, GET THIS HARNESS. Seriously. I was so frustrated after having bought two much more expensive harnesses that chafed my dog under his armpits.

This harness is so soft and sits back away from my dog’s armpits (something I was having a lot of trouble finding). My dog loves it and so do I. The only thing I would caution is for owners of dogs who are escape artists.

If your dog is an escape artist, you may need a more secure/structured harness. This harness has held my dog back from lunging straight ahead at other dogs no problem, but if your dog is going to try to wiggle and back out of it, it may not work for you.

For the rest of us, thank god this harness exists.

This harness is exactly what I was looking for. I like the “step in” style with the hooks/closure on the back. My dog is 15 pounds but her chest/front is bigger. She has been able to get out of other harnesses because they don’t fit quite right.

This harness has velcro as well as the snap closure, so I can adjust the fit more and make it snug on her body. Much more secure! Recommend! I also love the purple color. Make sure you look at the sizing chart and actually measure your dog.

I didn’t do this and ordered a small for my girl. Tried to put it on and it was way too small! I ended up needing a size large for her. Luckily the size small fits my other little dog perfectly. So now they have matching harnesses :).

I can’t say enough good about this harness. Our chihuahua is a larger one and got a really nice harness from Chewy but he kept getting a leg over it, just couldn’t get it adjusted high enough by the chest area.

Sent for the Voyager after a comment about a lady with a dog who got out of every harness but this one. She was right. It is higher up and closer to the neck without putting pressure on the neck at all.

There is no way he can get a foot over the front of the harness. Fits him perfectly he is comfortable, and easy to put on. He is 15# and we got the medium and fits perfectly. If you have an odd shaped dog or even a normal one , try this harness.

I love this harness. I haven’t used it for the reason I bought it yet, (to be used on my dog while paddle boarding), but I have discovered it’s amazing ability to thwart my dog’s whale like antics to throw herself backward, going limp, and melt right out of the harness like a cooked noodle when she doesn’t want to go or leave somewhere.

My dog is a 55lb Golden Retriever / Border Collie, she’s a big heavy noodle. I used to own the Rabitgo dog harness which was nice for her to wear while we biked, however within 3mo she learned how to pinch her shoulders together and melt out of the harness.

She would also (mostly at the dog park) go stiff leg when we would leave and then rear up and throw herself backward ( like a whale jumping out of the ocean )so she was sprawled on the ground. Your only option was to literally drag her from the park.

She is 4yrs old now and is an amazing whale flopper. she can slip out of anything. until now. I can literally just hold her in the air by my side while she tries to wiggle and squirm out of the harness to no avail with this RuffWear harness.

For that reason alone this harness is worth every penny to me, whether or not it works in the water. As far as fitting goes, I bought the large. Her neck is 19inches. Behind the front legs 31inches. In front of the back legs 25 inches.

From base of neck to the start of the tail is 27 inches in length. It seems to fit her well. The components are well built the D ring is sturdy the buckles are heavy duty and it’s well stitched. I think the only thing that could make this harness better would be having another D ring in the front.

I know they have other harnesses with this feature, but multiple attachments is just handy when it comes to dogs. Overall, I would recommend this harness and I won’t be going back to my previous harness.

These harnesses worked in a pinch for us. We took our dogs camping with us and we wanted to make sure to keep them safe. Pros: It is easy to put the harnesses on and take them off. They are a light weight material which allows for fast drying and minimal weight on the dog.

They utlilize the the over the shoulder Y design style which is the least likely to impede a dog’s range of motion in the front legs. The color was listed as salmon red but is more of a burnt orange which is actually good because of how close it is to safety hunter orange.

Cons: This harness utilizes plastic buckles that are light weight and don’t hold up to rigorous use. We don’t utilize the leash clip on the rear portion of the harnesses because it is not sturdy if the dog pulls and this harness is not designed to handle load bearing forces.

The only measurement used for sizing is measuring around the dog’s mid-section or “girth” (not a good representation of many dogs). The harness does not come down the back far enough. Overall: The only reason we bothered getting these is because the other ones we ordered we placed on back order from a company that does custom dog gear and we wanted to keep our dogs safe from hunters or other people.

As a professional dog training and care company we would prefer to go with other options because we have a high standard for our personal dogs. If you are on a budget or need something quick to satisfy a safety risk by all means get these or something similar, we certainly did.

No one piece of equipment is the best, they all have their pros and cons and each buyer has factors that influence their buying choices. We hope our review can help future customers and the Ruffwear company.

Originally I purchased the red Flagline harness in size XS on Amazon for 20 pound Maggie. She is a rescue dog and looks like a Dachshund-Cocker Spaniel mix. The XS fit perfectly in the neck and chest straps, but the belly straps would not go around, since she is barrel-shaped.

Next I ordered size S directly from Ruffwear, because I wanted to get the new salmon color. The chest and belly straps of the larger size fit fine, but the neck straps are loose even when tightened as far as they will go.

I have considered sewing them, but so far she has worn it loose in the front. It looks a little funny and makes a gap underneath as well— and the loose fabric drags over the grass. The metal hardware from the matching leash also causes a stain over the area of the harness handle.

I do love the light weight of the harness, matching leash and collar. They are all made well and the colors are beautiful. The handle is great for getting in and out of the car. But if you have a dog with a barrel-shaped figure and no definable waistline, chances are good that this harness will not be the best fit.

I’m thinking about ordering the Hi and Lite version of the harness (without the second set of straps) for Maggie in XS. I suspect that it will be a better fit, though not as secure or handy.

As soon as we received this Gooby X Mesh harness, I put it on Ms. Pixie and adjusted the fit. She has been quite comfortable with it! This is a dog who freezes like a statue if you put a shirt on her.

She hates wearing anything! At 11 years old, she is having issues with her trachea. The front X design of this harness does not constrict or put any pressure on her, thus adding to her comfort. In the picture, her pink necklace is not part of the harness.

Very excited about this one! I have a Papillon and so many harnesses mat down his lovely coat. This one positively disappears once on and is so lightweight and clearly comfortable (he falls asleep in it if I forget to take it off).

Will really save the day in summer heat, too. I’m going to buy another one in different color. Small fits 10. 5 lb dog perfectly.

I really like the harnesses due to their ease of use, reflective coloring, and the soft and moisture wicking material. The buckles for both straps instead of just one were a life saver getting my picky pups into the harnesses without struggling.

It’s been easiest to unbuckle the body strap and slip the other one over their heads. We took them (I have 3, all under 20lbs) to the vet in the harnesses today and even though they were a bit loose the harnesses were incredibly helpful keeping the dogs still for their appointment – and the little handle on top made it super easy to get the pups up into the car and on the examination table.

They’re small but put up a big fight every time. The only part I would change about this is the placement of the clips – I haven’t had an issue with this yet but it may rub on their “armpits” with longer exposures.

I’d also like to mention that their outreach team is amazing – I mentioned the harnesses were too big and they reached out to get a different size sent, and said to donate the larger ones to an animal shelter.

That really convinced me that the brand is interested in helping animals, not just themselves. I’d continue to give them my business a dozen times over going into the future because their products are great and they are also good people :).

I’ve used this harness for a couple of months now on my medium-size (30lbs) beagle-terrier mix pooch. When I began fostering her in November 2020, she came with another harness that was designed for much larger dogs.

It was heavy/bulky and a bit too large for her, even at its tightest setting, which caused it to slip from side to side. Once I officially adopted her in January 2021, I decided to check out other harness options.

This fits well (once properly adjusted at first use), and is really light, but durable. The “light” aspect is important due to the approaching Summer months where it’s unbearably hot and humid in our region.

The mesh material will keep it “breathable” for those many sticky months. The “durable” aspect is important as this kiddo instinctively and suddenly lunges at the sight of a squirrel, rabbit, etc. She is also “dog reactive”, resulting in lunging and pulling when other dogs get too close.

Her strength is extraordinary, and I’m happy to report that this harness manages to keep her restrained in such situations, even as I am holding on with both hands and leveraging my legs to stablize myself.

(I’m 5’10” and relatively fit. and she still tests my stability with her surprise “bolts”!) Glad to have found this harness!.

I am very pleased with the adjustment capability of this harness to get a good fit on my dog. He’s much happier in it than in a no pull nose harness. We’ve walked several times but not yet experienced another excited dog to truly test out how well it controls his pulling (which would definitely get it 5 stars).

I’m also happy with how comfortable he seems to be in it for long periods. Kept him in the harness all weekend for fast leash hookup in the car and at the house we were visiting. 3 days, no tugging or pulling trying to get out of it.

In my experience, pet store harnesses are not very well made, are hard to use, and wear out pretty quickly in a year or less. I came across these Puppia harnesses, advertised in a magazine. Of course, I checked Chewy first.

What a great find. The style is simple to put on, fasten/unfasten with one clip, attach easily to a lead or doggie seat belt, soft. I measured my girl before ordering, was surprised my 30 lb beagle terrier mix would require size XL.

Apparently her deep chest size is beagle and neck is terrier with lots of thick fur. The XL fits her perfectly. Ordered 2 to have a spare if one gets wet & dirty. She is stylin’ and profiling’ in her new Puppia green and turquoise harnesses.

We bought two medium and a small. Per weight and measurements, they should have fit…but we had to reorder a large for the puppy and use the two medium for our smaller dogs. I am donating the small harness, per Chewy’s request, to our local shelter, instead of them returning the harness.

That was super nice of them. The two medium work well, for our 12-14 pound, Maltese-Shih tzu and our 19-20 pound, wired-haired/Cairn terrier, dogs. Our puppy, an English shepherd/mini poodle, is 26 pounds and the large fits her well.

Now, to train her to walk on a leash. Lol.

I have been looking for a harness that would fit and secure our terrier. After three tries, this one finally fit our needs. Our new rescue terrier is quite energetic and that gets amplified by 10 when its walk time.

She bounces straight up about two feet for the first 5 minutes, and then goes in circles around your legs. She is obviously new to the concept of a controlled walk. Her crazy movements would always allow her to slip out of other harnesses.

She is also in the size area between small and medium so the others didn’t adjust to her very well. This harness has multiple adjustment points that work very well for her. It is very secure on her and she no longer slips out of her harness, even with her acrobatics.

The neck and chest parts of the harness are soft and do not irritate her skin. I highly recommend this harness for very squirmy dogs.

Do Not use the weight for sizing. Our dog at 20 lbs. , S too big. Harness is shortened all way, it is still too big. Order 1 size smaller. Now I’m fighting with Chewy trying to return wrong size. Can find where to even start return process.

Sad day for Chewy,. they have lost me as a customer. I do not see anywhere to begin return in Chewy website.

I thought I was buying a harness with sides not this stupid looking thing where you can barely read the words and no patches fit. Pathetic and I want to return it. Very dissatisfied and don’t understand why I couldn’t get the one I expected with sides not all short and stupid.

Why would anyone want this? No patches fit, etc. my dog is deaf not support.

Okay, let me tell you what happened, but remember that I do recommend this item. You just need to know a couple things before you order. First, the sizing chart is not the most accurate (not Chewy’s fault, this is from Chai’s).

My Doberman Pinscher has a size 27″ chest, and while Doberman’s are often considered large dogs, they are tall, but not bulky like say a Labrador. Anyhow, I ordered the Medium size since the 27″ chest fell into the mid-range of that size.

It did not fit, even with all adjustments expanded to the max. Chewy was excellent in understanding what happened with the sizing and replaced it with a Large; however, they did not have the Black one I wanted in the size Large at that time, so, since my Dobie is a “red” I thought that “burnt orange” looking one would be a good 2nd choice in color.

BUT, the picture (again, not Chewy’s fault, but from Chai’s) makes that orange look dark/burnt in color; however, when I got it, much to my surprise it is Florescent Orange (like a road-worker’s vest orange).

WOW! Not what I expected or would have chosen. Still, Chewy made it right and is sending me the Black one in Large, which they now have in stock. Despite the “flawed” info from Chai’s, I still like the vest harness and would recommend it.

Was recommended this and it looked sturdy but lightweight compared to others. The clip at the collar sold it as the battle I’d have getting the previous harness over my pups head was exhausting and not nice for her.

When it was adjusted just right we headed out for a walk. I immediately found that the d ring at the top/back is far back to the end of the harness that when on lead this basically put her in front of me and not nicely to my side.

This also makes controlling her when pulling not particularly easy as your control is pulling her at her chest and not shoulder/collar area. When she pulls the short padded bits under the collar straps folds under and I have to readjust throughout the walk (this is only when she pulls).

The chest ring is good and had this on the previous harness but when using it it twists the harness right around and kinda defeating its purpose and cutting at her armpits. Probably the most concerning thing I’ve found is the straps don’t stay tight enough and when the harness twists, or like the other day when my puppy got all excited seeing my neighbour she somehow managed to wriggle out of it, thankfully as they were paying her attention I noticed and grabbed her before she realised she was free! The previous harness was a bit like this but not as bad and she never completely broke free.

So in summery Pros: – lightweight – easy to put on due to clip at the collar – chest d ring – nicely padded on chest (not so much on collar area though) Cons – straps loosen when in use and can cause sores (isn’t escape proof and so no good for hyper dogs/puppies) – using chest d ring twists the harness right around and so defeats purpose of ring and harness – dangerous due to the above – d ring on back too far back (no good for pullers) – when pulling the collar padding folds under itself – particularly cheap for what you get As for the stitching and clips durability it’s too early to say as only been using it a couple weeks.

After less than 6 months with this harness, it is ripping at the buckle/clip points. The harness is easy to put on my dog, and removal is just as easy. I don’t put this harness on my dog very often after purchasing because the side adjustment buckle constantly turns sideways, and makes the harness loose.

I haven’t done any extensive hikes in the forest with my dog wearing the harness, just around the yard and on some trails. He rolls in the grass but never in the brush. If your dog is active whatsoever, I do not recommend this harness.

The material has small rips in it (again, my dog has worn this less than 15 times) and the material is ripping near the buckle/clip seams. Looking at the reviews, seems like most people have small dogs.

My dog is around 80lbs, using the XL size. I have a RuffWear harness for my dog that I use and I feel much more confident in that, no issues so far.

My dog is a yorkie mix, 11 pounds. Based on his measurements I ordered a small harness, however, while the neck strap was the right size, the chest strap was too tight. He must be right at 18” where this harness hits on his rib cage.

I returned it for the medium. This one the is too loose and cannot be tightened enough to be comfortable. The chest piece is pretty bulky and sags between his legs, making walking uncomfortable. His frame is definitely better suited for the small size.

It’s a shame there isn’t a little bit of overlap in the length of the straps as I really liked the features of this harness and it is good quality. Unfortunately I can’t return the harness because I removed the tags before realizing the larger size wouldn’t work.

Great little harness and very, very sturdy. However, it is overkill for a chihuahua, even one that pulls hard like mine does. It would be perfect for a larger stronger dog, like a Westie. It is very well made.

The reason I gave it four stars is because even though it is described as a mesh harness it is not a mesh that would be cooler to wear in the summer heat. I had to purchase an open mesh harness for summer—it is much light weight and the whole in the mesh let the breeze in and the body heat out.

This one will not do that. Otherwise it is a perfectly effective and comfortable harness.

The other reviews are right. This harness runs extremely small and although it seems very well made, it is very difficult to adjust. The straps are hard to slide through the buckles. My dog’s measurements are 18″ neck and 24″ chest so a medium should have fit.

It did not come close to making that chest measurement although I could not completely let out one side as the strap would not feed through the buckle. Even if I could have let it out fully, it would still have been too small.

There might be a conversion error – the harness is made in China and the size on the tag states it is a 20 mm, no reference to small, medium, large etc. 20 mm is less than one inch so perhaps this refers to the strap width.

The lengths given one the tag are 36-59 cm neck and 45-66 cm body. I am unable to use this so will return it and will order a different harness as the sizes and fit for this harness are unreliable.

I loved the color and quality but was surprised at the difficulty in adjusting. It took my boyfriend and I an hour and still did not fit right. The material is to wide for the clips. I have another Red Dingo harness that is thinner and very easy to adjust.

Pass on this harness. Just like other reviews this runs small (size chart says my 11 lb chihuahua mix is an xs, but I ordered a small after reading reviews). I had to adjust the harness to get it to fit.

It’s extremely difficult to adjust and seems like dollar store quality. Also the print is not as cute in person as it is in photo. Pass on this and save your money for a better harness.

I used to love the American River choke free harness but they changed the design ever so slightly (the arm holes aren’t the same shape) and it threw off the whole pattern. My gf with 2 chihuahuas had the exact same issue with her new ones too.

Gaping at the neck. I’m so glad I found this Wrap & Snap harness! It fits perfectly and also doesn’t use Velcro which I always finds snags my clothes when I pick up my baby. It’s also great for summer as it doesn’t have fabric on the back so it keeps them cooler.

I just wish there were more colour options! Tan would be great so it would blend into his coat colour. Please make more!.

The American River Harnesses are a great solution for our Pomeranians. With their common trachea issues, we feel confident when our little guys wear American River – and the styles are super cute! Highly recommend!.

I have a toy poodle, a mini poodle, and a very large standard poodle puppy. I own 2 harnesses but will be buying my third very soon. These harnesses work well for all dog sizes. My dogs like to pull on their leashes and it seems like the dog’s neck is not being pulled or injured while wearing the harness The dogs can not escape from this harness either.

The harnesses adjust well, are pretty sturdy, and the size range for each harness is generous. My dogs seem comfortable when wearing them. The cost is great too! I bought the matching leashes too, and they are great!.

The three Kwik Klip Adjustable Dog Harnesses that I purchased fit my Terrier mix dog perfectly. I recommend them.

I looked all over for these. they are the best. If you have a dog that likes to pull, you just clip the leash on the front of the harness. Stops all pulling. It also works fine hooking the leash on top.

All the front hooking harnesses are very expensive and have padding on the front that ends up smelling really badly. i’ve used this style for 30 years and glad to find them here.

I bought this size small for my Havanese puppy. She quickly outgrew it and there is not a bigger size. I was concerned about the tiny plastic clip but it is very secure. It is difficult to manage because it is so tiny.

We didn’t get to use this for walks because we had a close call and then I was too anxious to go for walks (leash clip, not the harness). We used it for car trips and trips to the yard for potty training.

The leg and neck holes are stretchy and the mesh is comfy. She never minded wearing it.

I brought my 9-week old Havanese home this week. On the breeder’s advice, I wanted to use a harness versus a collar that might damage her very delicate neck. It had to fit comfortably (not too big or too tight) and securely across her chest.

After a bit of research, I found this one on Chewy. The size was perfect for my 3 lb (max) pup. And the pretty pink fits her sassy personality perfectly. She’s been wearing it since day one and took to it right away.

She wiggled out of it once or twice in her crate but now doesn’t even seem to notice it’s on. I will likely buy a second “backup” harness.

I received this today and wish I could return it. I have a 9 lb mostly Yorkie mix who is blind and needs a harness to help with navigating territory (although she’s brilliant at learning where things are).

The “back clip” is like a doll’s toy, plastic and ready to snap just taking it out of packaging and putting it on her one time. The velcro is also not strong. Avoid this one when looking for a sturdy harness for a small dog with any sort of energy.

This one is not even making it out of the house. So disappointed!.

Ridley has had this harness for 6 years and it is still in great condition! She is about 50-55lbs, American bulldog breed with short legs but a broad chest and wears a size large. I came back to order a new one simply bc she’s put on some weight due to steroids and I want to order an extra large for her (but unfortunately they don’t have extra large in a color she likes).

She has literally chewed through Other harness because of the placement of the straps/pads and has also busted out of one while on the tie out. This one has stood the test of time and durability! She has played River fetch and climbed mountains and it’s still in excellent condition and it clearly is comfortable or she would have chewed it off by now.

So hard to find harnesses for this breed but Red Dingo nailed it with this harness!.

This is a great harness that allows movement in the shoulder area the way it is supposed to! Most harnesses restrict movement as they lay over or right in front of the shoulder blade which is not good long-term as the restricted movement causes dogs to not extend their front legs properly which in return now causes them to compensate (only a trained eye can see this by just watching a dog walk).

This compensation into the rest of the body causes the spine/ joints/ bones to be in unnatural positions and under constant tension – muscle tension (eventually chronic) and arthritis can follow as a result.

The only adjustment I would wish for is that the harness was adjustable on the top bridge where the collar connects to the back area as every dog has a different body so the more adjustment points, the better; other than that, awesome harness!.

I have 5 chihuahua mixes with odd shapes. Harnesses that fit them right are so hard to find! They are all under 8 pounds and some have tiny chests, others bigger. it’s really been so frustrating looking for the perfect fit.

But these size down so well they are literally perfect! And super lightweight so great for summer when it’s hot. Love these and the price point! (For reference, I bought these in the XS size).

IšverstiShow in original languageI accidentally purchased the wrong size online. The silver lining being this fits my senior girl beautifully. Very easy to put on and off. She doesn’t like over the head harnesses, but this has such a wide space it doesn’t matter.

We were in the mountains recently. Her balance in the car is not the best. I was able to hold the handle as we went round corners on the twisty mountain roads, to steady her. It washes well too. We lost an ezy dog Velcro patch somewhere in our travels though!.

a much better fitted medium. We didn’t have to add anything new to this (the old kong one we had to add velcro so it stayed put). It’s a perfect fit and he swallows less water because this life jacket keeps him elevated, the proof was on the drive home.

With the previous jacket we would have to stop several times on the way home (about 4 or more times) to let him potty. This jacket is so awesome and did a great job at keeping him elevated, we didn’t have to stop once on the way home.

Red makes it easy to see him when he’s out in the water. The only thing I would add is a bigger handle on the top of the jacket. The picture does more show how flat the handle is on the life jacket so it’s not a true picture of what it will look like on your dog.

Other that the handle this product is amazing. I love it and Ajax, the dog, does too.

so we decided to get this. Now we dont go to any lake without it. The other day i even tried to take it off while we swam to see his reaction and he practically pawed at me nonestop till i put it back on.

He LOVES to float in the water. Also its a great piece of mind to know my dog has a personal floation device as well as myself. Highly recommend.

I was looking for a harness to use with my pup for tracking and scent work. This seemed to fit the bill to begin with and upon receipt I think it will work just great for quite awhile. Well made and easy to use.

Pup likes it as well.

I’ve been using this harness for 20 years on several different dogs. I love all the adjustments so I can make sure it doesn’t interfere with shoulder movement or press on the windpipe. I purchased the first one for tracking, but soon realized it’s my favorite harness for daily walks.

I have used this harness almost daily for over 10 years. It is simple to put on and great for our hot, humid climate. My pup has gained weight over the years so I will be ordering the next size up.

I have a 3 year old Cairn Terrier who is an incessant puller. I now have a collection of myriad no pull harnesses. The one that worked best up until now was a Gentle Leader but inspite of extended training and wearing while eating and getting treats he spent much of his walk time trying to remove the harness around his nose.

Yesterday I purchased the Two Hounds Freedom Harness at a local pet store. We fitted him with The Freedom Harness and began walking around the store and his behavior instantaneously changed. His focus on me was immediately apparent.

I spent time today after watching a training video practicing getting him to want to put the harness on over his head and clipping it in place. Then we went into the yard to practice. After that we walked down our street and I was so amazed at how easy it was to redirect his attention if he began to pull.

I simply stopped and used the lower leash to lead him in a U-turn. Soon he was heeling at my side. I wish I had discovered the Two Hounds Freedom Harness when he was a puppy!.

They know their harnesses have a design flaw, and it can’t hold up to any chewing. Not just a little, but ANY. We had ours for three days, she only wore it to go outside, and I only saw her bite it a couple times.

She never even really chewed it. By day three, I was emailing the company because their website led me to believe their return policy would make for a simple return and replacement, no problem. Only then do they give you the fine print.

Nope, they just say their policy doesn’t cover chewing and generously offer you another one for a discount. Well, it doesn’t cover chewing because it’s cheaper to change your return policy than it is to redesign a product after tons of people start having the same problem.

Support small business, but not this one. Not until they fix their harnesses. If this thing falls apart on some poor dog and the owner doesn’t notice, it’s gonna be a safety issue. They could run out into the street, run away and get lost, or any number of things.

Love this system! This is the second “set” my mom has gotten for me – first was in red, now I’m in purple. Both look so great on my black coat! I don’t pull with this system ’cause there are 2 points of contact: my back and my chest.

It makes me feel secure and I know the direction my mom wants me going. She loves it for the same reasons and also ’cause she can make adjustments at 4 different points. Plus it has a Martingale arrangement at the back ring which tightens if I pull on the leash but lets go when I relax – so I get the message! It doesn’t have anything around my neck which both Mom and I appreciate.

It even has sturdy, but soft velvety material for my belly for added comfort! 2 Hounds has made a thoughtful, well-constructed product in a lovely array of colors. Thank you, Chewy, for carrying this product! Aaroos to you!.

I really loved the look of this and the variety of colors. I’m using it for a kitty, not a doggy, and it did come up in kitty harness searches. I received it accidentally in the wrong size, but Chewy rectified this quickly and painlessly as usual.

They sent the right size, according to my order and the chart. With this said, neither fir her well. The problem is that you cannot adjust this enough on the top, meaning the shoulder attachment. This is what makes it stay in a place where the chest rests under their neck and the legs come through the holes.

If it slides it make mobility difficult. I used a ribbon to tie the top (shoulder) so it rides higher. It still doesn’t fit just right. I otherwise would like it. it is sturdy feeling and looks good.

As I have done for the rest of the 49 years I have owned pets AND purchased pet supplies “by mail”/online, I measured our new 7 month old puppy several times for new harnesses. I bought some at local pet stores and other online sites, but for whatever reason I cannot get one the right size on Chewy.

I suspect that the size charts supplied by the makers of these products are unreliable. Chewy has graciously refunded me but keep in mind these seem to run VERY SMALL. My Shih Tzu puppies chest measurement was well within the ones listed for this item but I received a harness so small that it might fit my cat–or maybe a Chihuahua puppy!! Overall can’t fault Chewy on their service and variety of items, so it certainly won’t keep me from ordering again–just beware you are taking a chance with harnesses.

Maybe order more than one size ( DUH I should have) and return the ones that don’t work.

I got an XXX-small for my 2 month old Dachshund. The neck is not adjustable and it is already pretty tight on her in that part, but the chest portion is too big. It can be tightened but loosens on its own multiple times/day.

She could easily slip her legs out and escape it when she’s rolled over on her back (fortunately she hasn’t figured that out just yet). Overall it’s serving its purpose, but I will not buy another one of these types when she is bigger.
