20 Best Hand Sander For Wood (2023 Updated)

After using a 1/4 sheet palm sander for years, I found this sander to be really nice. The action seemed to be more aggressive and very effective. I like that the pad also rotates randomly which helps so your sandpaper doesn’t wear out on one spot if you’re doing a repetitive task.

The hand grip it nicely located and shaped so it’s comfortable to hold and move around at angles if not just flat sanding. I found the dust collector filled or clogged up very quickly, but I’m not surprised, it’s a small thing and a bit of a gimmick, but still would help a bit for small jobs where you’d like to have less dust flying around.

My major concern isn’t with the sander, but the paper. After more than an hour of sanding the edges of some fresh cut plywood strips (to lightly round and remove the slivers on the edge), the sandpaper fell off and would not stick to the sander anymore.

It attaches by a velcro type of press-on fit, and even though the sandpaper looked almost new, I had to buy replacement sandpaper discs because somehow the soft side of the sandpaper disc was damaged and the sander couldn’t hold onto it anymore.

Fortunately, the new one stuck on just fine and I continued sanding. I doubt this would happen as soon on if sanding a flat surface, but I was annoyed none-the-less because the discs are a lot more expensive than the paper for my 1/4 sheet sander! Oh, and don’t forget to buy some sandpaper discs if you buy this sander.

It only comes with 1 (yes ONE) disc and it’s 80 grit. Overall I really like the sander and it will probably be the one I reach for first.

I’m very happy with this sander. I bought it more than a year ago and it’s my favourite in the fleet. Through heavy use (sometimes by inexperienced users) the “hook” portion of the “hook & loop” system on the backing pad became so worn that it would not hold disks.

I could have ordered a replacement from Bosch but I tried the faster expedient: bought a replacement pad u7off the shelf at a home improvements store. I probably could have found one at a better price on line, but this was available with no waiting.

It works and fits perfectly.

Great sander. Really easy to use. And easy replacement sanding paper (and can be bought on super sale). The compartment does trap a lot of the dust, although some very fine dust does go into the air.

Nice that you can adapt to hook up to the shop vac. I used old sanders for so many years – I really felt the difference with this one – less vibration and needing to press down hard.

Dewalt. Great little palm sander for finishing touches. If your are going to be doing heavy sanding use a sander. I have been a Dewalt Fan since I got married and my dad made sure I had a 4pc Dewalt Kit Jobsite Radio to Match.

He wanted me to have quality tools since so was a newlywed 1st time home owner. Dewalt has only gotten better over the last 20 years. The batteries have gotten smaller lighter but the have 60x more power.

They make high quality products that preform and are super durable and quality. It’s worth the money to have quality tools. Yeah you can buy much cheaper tools at Harbor Freight that have a “lifetime” warranty.

So that means you will be spending you valuable DIY saturdays in line returning a junk power tool for a new one that will last ten minutes and once again your driving back to exchange. Buy quality and buy Dewalt.

They are the very best power tool available in my opinion.

I hummed and haw’d on this forever before purchasing. I needed a new sander to refinish furniture with, so it was very important to find a good sander, that worked, and that didn’t leave marks like my old square sander did.

I like the corded version, because I always forget to charge things. It works way faster and way better. It really exceeded my expectations. A dresser that I had which would usually take me an hour or more to sand down with my old sander, took me about 15 minutes with this one Oh, and the sanding paper discs are a dream! So much better than the square sanders.

Overall, I’m very happy with this.

I bought this sander to do small projects around the house. I was sanding a wooden disc about 3 inchs across so lots of back and forth. I replaced the first piece of sandpaper after spotting it on the floor.

It had fallen off the sander. Then nothing else would stay on the sander As soon as I turn it off the sandpaper flys off. Really really annoying to say the least. This was the DWE6423K. So where do I buy a new pad seeing as the first one is so smooth as it will not hold anything?.

Love it! Just the right size for small household projects. Being a corded model was definitely the right choice for me so power stays consistent, unlike rechargeable ones.

I was able to complete the job intended. I actually cut the nose off the upper front in order to sand my kitchen floor in the area where the cabinets overhang a few inches. It was quieter than I expected and easy to load the sand paper.

The one drawback was that almost no dust was collected in the small collector bag that came with it, maybe because I messed up the air flow when I cut off the nose, even though I did tap the hole I had created.

It also came with an adapter that could be hooked to a vacuum cleaner; I didn’t get around to trying that option.

I really like this orbit sander. I’ve been using it for about 5 years now and it is still going just as strong as ever with no issues. The size is great – I have somewhat smaller hands for a man and have no problems using it.

Vibration is minimal so it is comfortable to use for longer periods of time. Hook and loop system hasn’t worn a bit. Overall, this tool does exactly what it’s supposed to do and it does it well. My only complaint – and my reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 – is that the dust containment leaves a bit to be desired.

Yes, there’s a collection port and a collection bag on the port. With just the bag attached, you’re going to have a big mess on your hands anyway. You definitely need to hook up to a vacuum if you’re using indoors.

Even with a vac, things can still get a bit messy. But the bag doesn’t do much at all. Again, it’s a very small complaint in the bigger scheme of things. The tool itself is top quality and a workhorse at that.

I’d absolutely buy again and would (and have) recommend to friends.

I’ve wanted a DeWalt orbital sander ever since borrowing one from a pro friend. It has power to quickly do any sanding job, it is balanced in the hand, and the velcro-style sandpaper holder works well.

I have smaller hands and it’s still lightweight enough for me to use skillfully. One of my favorite features is the dust collector bag, which attaches firmly to the sander and does NOT leak any dust! (The other is its storage bag, roomy enough to hold extra sandpaper and more.

) I’ve used this for home improvement projects such as preparing walls and wood trim for painting, and sanding down old doors to fit better in their frame. I haven’t yet used it for refinishing furniture, but that will be next! Bottom line: lightweight, easy to handle, well-balanced and powerful.

And the price was good for a brand new tool.

Bought this to smooth pressure treated wood that I had covered with MH spackel. After a few minutes the sandpaper flew off and it’s replacement did the same. I thought it was because of the spackel, so I put the sander aside and waited until I needed to sand some unspackeled wood.

When I tried the sander again, the sandpaper came off after a few minutes. I contacted Dewalt customer service thinking that the hook disc on the sander had worn and lost its grip. They quickly sent me a replacement disc.

This new disc also wouldn’t hold the sandpaper for any length of time even when I was sanding clean wood. I contacted the Dewalt service center nearest me and they created a UPS label for me to send the sander to them.

I reasoned that this must be a common problem and that they must have an improved hook disc. The response was to send me a new sander, which won’t hold a disc. Maybe their own brand of sanding discs will work better.

I am awaiting a couple of new discs and will try their sandpaper when I get them. I hold out little hope. Although the company has been responsive, the product is flawed. Unless they improve the disc, I would never recommend this product.

After having this problem with the first one and returning it, second sander has the same issue. The power switch does not want to turn on after a couple uses. The only way I can now turn it on is to use a flat screwdriver to press into the on portion of the button.

No amount of finger pressing works. And, once it’s on, it often cuts off and you have to repeat the process. Very frustrating! I do like the ‘new’ paper mounting method. Still not great but better than it used to be.

It would be nice to include adapters and retainers for different shop-vac hoses and not just Dewalt.

I purchased the DeWalt Sander to replace my Craftsman block sander. Although I have been purchasing Craftsman for 50+ years and generally award them five stars, the sandpaper grips on their block sander is a complete disaster.

At the hardware store I looked at all the major brands for replacement; the DeWalt was the only one with a truly well-engineered solution. The front is actually a clamp, which is unavailable on any other brand.

The rear is a spring similar to all other brands but with one truly innovative feature–the spring applies equal pressure across the full with of the sandpaper, which none of the others have addressed.

Thankfully, I can now use the sandpaper until it is worn out; not just until it rips itself off from inadequate retainer(s). I’m not surprised; I also have a DeWalt portable table saw because the engineering is light years ahead of the competition (specifically the front and rear rack and pinion guide system).

The miter gauge is a piece of junk (I had to purchase a real one from another vendor) but the rest of the saw is a work of art. Kudos to your design team; the sander is a winner!.

Working With Pallet Wood: I can use this tool for 20 min at a time with no noticeable fatigue. Shaves off a lot with 60 grit sandpaper although it burns through sandpaper pretty quick so make sure you have enough sheets! It can reveal raw wood on a 2X4X3 in about 3 min per side if the board is smooth.

Cord is a good length, it has two prongs so it can be used with any suitable extension cord. The vac pick up everything as long as the board is flat and doesnt blow anything noticeable out of the filter.

I feel like the sandpaper lasts longer without using the hole punch. It actually buffs nails and screws to a sheen but going over them wrecks the sandpaper almost instantly – within 5 min. All in all this sander is crucial for light/medium sanding purposes.

For heavy jobs a planer, hand belt sander, or a grinder and sanding wheel would be ideal. If you need something as thick as an 1/8 of an inch gouge removed this is not the tool (unless you have 30 min and a couple sheets of paper to spare).

I try to sand with the grain, but no matter the direction it always comes out smooth for 60 grit. Haven’t done any finishing sanding yet but I have no doubts it will not perform. I haven’t tried the shop-vac connection yet either but the sander alone picks up nearly everything so I’m not worried there either.

I bought this unit about a week ago so there hasn’t been very much use but two things come to mind when I think of it: The clips to hold the paper seem to be barely holding on. Paper hasn’t come loose yet but I think it will eventually happen.

Other reviews seem to have indicated as much. The lock-on/lock-off switch is very useful. Holding the paddle switch is a bit awkward for long stretches of time – the switch helps The Punch plate is a nice touch.

Saves you from having to randomly punching until you his the right spots. The other odd thing is that the sample paper they give you does not really match the holes for dust extraction. My guess is that it wasn’t designed for this unit in mind.

It still works but maybe not very efficiently. I will have to try a second piece to see. I have only had the unit for a short time so will write another review if it falls apart or something else. One last thing: the sales price at CT, which I paid, is the normal price at other hardware stores but they don’t carry it, it’s an online only at other stores.

The sander feels good in your hand. Unfortunately it chews through same paper either the latch style method of securing it to the head. The vacuum is a nice feature. Price is alright.

I was looking for an affordable sander, this one came on sale and I bought it, it works well and is pretty quiet. The only problem was that the ad only showed the top of it so I couldn’t tell what type of sanpaper sheets it needed.

As it happens Canadian Tire had a sale on the sandpaper too, but by the time I picked up the sander, the sandpaper was all gone.

This unit works really well, I have just finished using for an oak table refinish. It easy to hold, with minimal vibrations through the hand. Battery life is dependant on a number of factors, including how much weight is put on the sander.

It runs full speed till the near the end of battery then cuts out. I only wish it were better on the dust collection, especially fine dust. The bag attaches easily and is easy to dump. I would have really liked an attachment to allow a vacuum or dust collection system to hook onto it if one didn’t want to use the provided dust receptacle.

There’s nothing like a cordless sander, and an orbital one at that. This sander is extremely effective and easy to use. It includes a wheel to adjust the speed of the rotating disc, which can come in handy for certain types of woods or desired sanding speed.

I can’t stress enough how crucial it is for a sander to be cordless. You often need to get into odd positions, and have to move the unit back and forth in long strokes. A cord only makes these scenarios annoying and/or difficult to accomplish.

There’s also a nice little removable dust bag, so there’s virtually no dust to choke on coming from this sander. And it’s very easy to click off and empty. Overall, highly-recommended, very easy-to-use sander.

Sanding isn’t hard with an electric sander but this makes it very easy. The sander is very well balanced and the lower height really does make controlling this sander easy. I’ve used this for a few woodworking projects and it’s very fast and effective.

Well, understanding the amount of wood I’m sanding. I know battery life is an issue and that’s partially due to the fact it’s constantly running but I can get over an hour out of a 5ah battery. Remember, though, that I’m having to stoop to change paper for a few minutes here and there.

Now as far as does it actually work well, it does. It’s fast and leaves a smooth even finish even when sanding against the grain. I haven’t had to go back over anything because it left sander marks.

This is a great sander! I’ve used an even smaller sander to get details however it didn’t work very well and had to use my hand or even this sander. I like that it bags the dust from sanding. I also like that it is fairly easy to replace the sand paper.

There are also a bunch of different kinds of sand paper and you don’t have to get the more expensive sticky kind. It isn’t as good for big jobs like a belt sander would be however, but for smaller jobs that have not a ton of small detail this would work great.

I used it to refurbish a cabinet and it worked just fine. The power on it was great but you do need to apply pressure and apply it evenly or one spot may get sanded more than another. Also you need to move in a circular motion if possible you are able to sand it a lot better if you do this.

It is really loud, but I don’t know how you can get around that. Be sure to wear some type of ear protection or your ears may ring for a while after using it. The button to turn it on isn’t the easiest thing to push but it does work just fine.

Maybe that is a safety feature so you don’t accidently turn it on or something.

This 1/4 sheet pad sander is solidly built with different size openings in the dust collector section for various size vacuum hoses. When you want as little dust as possible use a vac with it. The dust collector bag works OK by itself but a with a vac attached is much better.

I don’t use a vacuum with it unless absolutely necessary because the hose gets in the way and makes it clumsy to use-as would any sander with vac attached. The sander itself is basically like any other quality sander and the paper attachment clips work efficiently as they should.

It is fairly comfortable to use with no more or less vibration than other similarly priced sander. It seems sturdy enough for professional use and fits in well with my orbital sander which is also Dewalt.

I bought this reconditioned for a good price and it comes with a 1 year warranty–if you want 3 years buy new. Also the case is handy protection for the sander, paper punch, with various grits of paper stored in a slot made for them.

I have no complaints- I will use this professionally and may be harder on it than a home user. If there are any problems during the next year, I’ll come back and rewrite or make additons to this review.

For now, all seems well.

Product arrived with a damaged outer box (Thanks UPS) but an intact inner box (Thanks CPO). Sander feels heavy in your hand, which I think is good. You don’t have to apply much pressure to your working surface.

The dust collection is fair, not great. It may be I’m comparing it to my old random orbit sander. The unit is louder than expected. Ear protection recommended.

I needed a sander to pre a lot of varnished doors and trim for painting. I already had a cordless random orbital sander from another brand but it just wasn’t up to the task. I picked up this Craftsman sander and it did not disappoint.

It has the power to cut through the toughest surfaces. The front grip is easy to hold and manuveur with little vibration transmitted to your hand and arm, and the sander is light enough that you can use it overhead without a lot of fatigue.

Since them, I have used this sander for several other projects and it continues to perform well. While it would be nice not to have to deal with the cord, you get used to it and a random orbital sander is one of those tools that needs the power of an AC motor.

Being corded let’s me tackle big sanding jobs without having to stop to change or perhaps charge a battery.

I bought this sander to replace an old, cheap sander I’d been using for a few years. This sander definitely powers through any of the work I threw at it in a much more comfortable fashion than my old sander.

This one really doesn’t transfer much vibration at all into my hand, making it pretty easy to sand large projects without needing many breaks. My only real issue with this sander is that it’s tough to keep a vacuum connected to it.

You pretty much have to jam your hose onto it, and either rely on suction and a free hand to hold it on, or duct tape it in place. It would be great if Craftsman would make a locking attachment that uses the same type of connection the included dust bag uses.

All-in-all, it’s a great sander that I’d recommend to anyone who needs one.

This sander stacks up to any of the other name brand orbital sanders. Performs great. The only thing I would change is that the neck was a little longer so that I could fit my hand to grip it. I like to switch up my hand position from holding it on top to holding it sideways by the neck of the tool between the top and lower body.

That seems to be the case with all orbital Sanders these days.

Love this little sander! Big or small jobs it can do it! Im a 68 year old lady using this to sand the old paint off my deck rails so I can repaint. It’s small and easy to handle – just what I needed.

I loved this sander. It saved me time, the sanding job was effortless using this sander.

This is a great sander. I only gave it 4 stars because the pad actually has a slight concave pattern while it’s running. I checked with a few different straightedges and the pad itself is flat. But, while it’s running, it will create a pattern on the front and back edges of about 3/4”.

It’s not ideal on flat panels, but is easy to work around. This sander has a little more RPM than the makita orbital sander and it does make a difference in finishing sanding. It will still give swirl marks if you don’t be careful about building up too much sanding dust(depending on the material you’re sanding).

I’ve tried both punching “suction” holes with the provided guide, as well as running without and i actually got better results without the holes. I use almost exclusively Makita in my Shop and would highly recommend ALMOST any power tool they make.

This was a great addition to help with sanding in tighter/right angles where the orbital just doesn’t reach.

This Makita replaces its ancestor that I bought in the mid-90s, dropped several times, used like crazy, and finally dropped one too many times. It was finally time. The new one works much the same, which is to say although it’s a finishing sander, you can use it for all sorts of sanding tasks, including 4×8 sheets of plywood if you have some patience.

The only change of any substantial nature is the sandpaper mounting arms, which in this one are left-right reversed from my old one, and in my opinion don’t work as easily as the old model’s. They do hold the paper, which is what matters, but they don’t reach out and grab it as well as the older one’s did.

It’s a fiddly complaint but I thought I’d bring it up. Great sander, quieter than its predecessor.

Everything made by Makita lasts and lasts, so I trust this brand. I especially like the way the quarter sheets are attached, and the fact that more of the quarter sheet is used in the sanding surface.

The sander is heavy (indication of powerful motor), so it takes extra muscle. My own complaint is probably true for all other finishing sanders: the grip. It’s hard to get a good grip because the motor and shape require extra large hands for good control.

I have large hands but obviously not large enough.

35 years cabinet/millwork/carpentry experience. i can finish anything when it comes to woodworking, paint, lacquer, 2 part, poly/varnish, hand rubbed, etc. having the right sander for the right finish is key.

this is my arsenal which includes the makita BO6030, BO4900V and 9924DB. makita BO6030, 99% swirl free sander. balanced, quiet, quality and made in UK. makita BO4900V, very impressive! just as good as porter cable (USA model) 505.

really like grip on top. primers, sealers and in between coats, i use 320 grit and man talk about smooth!!! MADE IN JAPAN! makita 9924DB i prefer rear handle over top handle. this is my 2nd 9924db, gave my old one to my best friend.

still uses it at his cabinet shop. its over 20yr old. MADE IN JAPAN! other models to find, “MUST HAVES!” porter cable 303, 505 and 7336 older models only MADE IN USA, some of the best quality and finishes ever! METABO SXE450 MADE IN GERMANY or old rigid (the orange sanders in pic) sanders made by metabo.

not the hitachi metabo new crap. one of the best dual action sanders ever! FESTOOL ETS 125 decent 5″ sander for face frames and stiles and rails. i own a lot of festool. meh ok for today’s standards, bets china crap, but not as good as old school tools.

bottom line BUY QUALITY! yes some of my tools are china crap. ALL companies nowadays uses some parts outsourced from other countries. so when you find tools made in the USA, JAPAN, SWITZERLAND, GERMANY, buy’em buy’em buy’em they will last a looooooong time and make you $$$$$!.

I rented this same unit from Home Depot for a job and I was amazed at the quality of this tool right away. The following day I returned it and bought myself one. It made a difficult job a breeze. The sturdiness, the sound of the motor is solid and firm, the trigger is ergonomic and responsive and the adjustable handle makes all the difference.

The vacuum attachment allows a shop vac to be connected and it works amazingly. What we have here is a perfect tool. I highly recommend it.

Glad I bought this sander. Good solid equipment from makita. Not used it yet but I know it is top quality as I’ve used a similar style sander several years back. A good bit heavier than the palm sander I’ve been using recently, but a lot more durable and steadier than the various styles of air sanders about.

And a lot less noisy. A good length of electric cable attached to the sander, a good quality head attached to it very flexible. Looking forward to giving it it’s first use and consigning the palm sander to the back of the cupboard.

Makita make good quality tools, so I know this will last for years. Also got an Allen in a holder attached to the cable for when it’s time to change the sanding head Well pleased with the purchase.

I really like this sander, l especially like how easy it is the change the sanding paper, it is light enough and feels good to hold. The down side!!! the cable is too short and l kept catching the dust bag which falls off as it is only push on but on the whole l am pleased with the sander.

Quite noisy (or so it seemed outside early on a Sunday morning!). More effective on a flat surface compared to one that has been warped by the sun – particularly it it has thick peeling paint – but I suppose that is to be expected of a flat sander compares to a random orbital one.

Gets into corners ok. Vibration is not excessive. Powerful motor. Dust bag collection not all that good. Yes, the lead is a bit short, but a lightweight extension lead overcomes that. Overall I am very satisfied, but I will probably get a random orbital one too.

Has a great speed control range and gives great timely finish. On/Off switch is in a good position at the fingertip front of the palm area for quick single hand operation so your other hand is always free, though have observed that some users adjusting their stance while gripping the sander during operation can unintentionally turn it off, this appears to happen if the sander is at a slight angle in hand position where the switch under a finger rather than between fingers when gripping.

Hold the device correctly to avoid this. The dust collection is unexpectedly great, compressing a surprising amount, has a spring coil to maintain the bags shape and collection volume, squeeze the spring to empty the dust out with little effort, a rotation lock prevents it accidentally falling away from the device while maintaining ease or detachment and reattachment.

Good overall palm Sander. I am happy with it. Replaces a Black and Decker on I had for years that died when the cardboard sleeve on the shafts finally disintegrated. I hope this one doesn’t have cardboard parts.

So far, it works good. Makes a hell of a racket (sound) and sometimes, if you tip it, it will blow sawdust into your eye and high speed. but I guess that’s to be expectes.

Filters much better than sanders with those cloth bags for filters. Feels very solid in your hands but not too heavy. Only used for some light sanding in my workshop so far but we’ll see how they hold up over time.

No issues with “used” looking products being shipped like in some other reviews but there was some fine sawdust inside the boxes upon opening perhaps from storage. Inside the filters were clean. Overall, very satisfied.

Like other reviewers have said they had some sawdust on them. The box was sealed when I purchased them and they look new otherwise so I assume it’s from when they were manufactured. Maybe they test them before selling? Anyway, not a problem as they both have been working great.

Vibration isn’t too bad and the noise is tolerable with protection on. Yes I would recommend these but still ended up using my belt sander first to remove the majority of material.

The finish that I achieved with this cordless orbital sander on day one of using it, is amazing! Took a little getting used to the power of this little unit and needed to dial down the variable speed setting for my application.

Paired this with 3m Cubitron II sanding film disks 180 grit and the surface feels as smooth as glass!!! I have spent a lot of time researching and trialing various brands of cordless woodworking tools.

It is very important to me that the tool fits my hand and is light enough for me to comfortably handle and that the work is done by the tool!! This Milwaukee Random Orbital Sander ticks all of the boxes!! Although, I have no idea how to open the accompanying dust collector unit without brute force? Any suggestions?.

Power and variable speed are good. Having it Cordless and hose less are nice. But, the hook and loop pad is junk. After about 5 sanding discs it was worn out and no longer holds sanding discs. Also, if you are sanding anything that isn’t just one flat surface you have to be careful which way you are holding the tool.

If you twist and turn the wrong way, any sanding dust that is in the canister will be blown back out of the tool and all over the place. It would be nice if there were a one way valve of sorts there to prevent that from happening, aside from a vacuum hose being hooked up of course.

It would also be nice if it came with an accessory or alternative pad to accept the adhesive backed sanding discs.

Unboxing this little M18 sander gave me the first glimpse of the vacuum / dust trap assembly. The odd shape and fit with the battery sandwiched between the body of the sander and the dust trap just added to the mystery.

The vacuum attachment is pretty straight forward but I had work to do, that’s why I bought it. The enclosed 3. 0 battery was charging so I grabbed a 5. 0 off the shelf and it slid right in the pocket and we went right to work.

The adjustable speed is a welcome addition to palm sanding and the 5 amp battery provided plenty of power to sand and refinish the door I was working on. Wound up emptying the dust collector several times so the Packout vacuum is next on the list but the odd shape of the assembly just wouldn’t get out of my head, however running this sander for about an hour straight stripping and finishing that door taught me that an odd profile doesn’t hinder balance and feel.

Face it, the dust collector looks like the buckhead of the Apollo moon lander but it’s not in the way and just plain works. Now the old Porter Cable will get retired and an M18 vacuum will be getting ordered pretty quick.

Definitely recommended.

This sander has worked very well for all I want it to do. I first used it to sand parts of my deck for refinishing and it did the job easily. I then used it to sand down a railing that needed refinishing.

Again great performance. My one and only issue is with the dust collector that pops off sometimes while I’m working, especially on a vertical surface. I read some reviews that said it wasn’t powerful enough and it would stop when you pushed too hard on it.

My response would be that you don’t need to push that hard on this machine. IT does the work, YOU don’t have to! I have owned it only a month, but to this point, I would definitely recommend it.

Purchased this sander for a project that would have involved constantly changing cordless sander batteries. The dust attachment works well for small stuff but removing it and pairing the sander with a shop vacuum makes cleanup a breeze.

This product solved my problem as an artist painting in the medium of egg tempera. To produce the correct ground on which to paint is a long process, making handmade gesso, coating the wood, sanding it as smooth as porcelain before applying a further 7 coats in succession each needing to be sanded.

Plain elbow grease producing several panels is a nightmare without the use of this amazing tool. Thank you so much.

I mistakenly purchased a battery powered oscillating sander which runs through batteries faster than I would have liked, so I eventually decided to hop on the corded sander train. After looking at all my options, this was the only that stuck out because it is shaped more like the Festool that everyone seems to be using.

Holding this sander is incredibly comfortable with a natural 2 handed operation and trigger lock. Speeds range from hardly moving to incredibly fast. I haven’t spent a ton of time with it but speed 5 is perfect for 60-80 grit rough sanding, then as the grit increases it’s best to lower the speed to get a very smooth result.

I have not used the included dust filter, instead I purchased a Dust Right FlexiPort and with a bit of duct tape it has a perfect fit to this sander and collects 99% of the dust. Overall this seems like the perfect sander for a very reasonable price.

I see no need in the future to replace this model, just the Velcro pad as needed.

Bought this to replace an Erbauer ERB106SDR which died after about 4 years of use. Suspect it is the brushes which aren’t replaceable on the Eebauer. Makita plus points: (1) quieter than the Erbauer; (2) lighter than the Erbauer (3) sands as well as the Erbauer despite 200W (vs 240W for the Erbauer) Negative points: (1) Cord is 190cm long which is mean.

I have to use an extension lead when sanding above head height. The Erbauer has a 320cm cord. (2) Came with a 13amp fuse. way too high for a 0. 9A motor. replaced it with a 2A fuse. I think Makita should change down to a 3A I use the sander with a industrial vacuum as I’m always working in old houses and surfaces may include lead paint (Always wearing a N95 mask, goggles and ear defenders).

The dust extractor exhaust is 22mm diameter for those that need an adapter. There is no adapter supplied with the unit.

Only used for one job so far (‘flatting’ old paint on two large windowsills prior to repainting). This was about 1 ½ hours of work and the sander performed admirably, using a 120 grit sheet. The result was very smooth and the machine was easy to use: little vibration and well-balanced.

The sander appears to be well-made and definitely Makita trade quality – manufactured in USA which is unusual in my experience. The only slight drawback is the relatively short cable but an extension lead can easily resolve that.

Although Powertool World don’t sell them, it’s worth buying some pad savers to take the brunt of the shearing force on the ’hook-and-loop’ sanding pad fixing. They are cheap and disposable compared with the circa £20 cost of a new pad of you wear that out.

To say I’m happy with this so far is an understatement. For the price I paid on-sale, I could buy 3 of these before I hit the cost of the comparable Makita sander I was leaning towards. But after using it a bit, something tells me that repacements won’t be necessary, and this one will far outlast what I would normally expect from a power tool at this price-point.

This sander is the right size and capabilities for the jobs I need to do. I’ve only had mine for a month, and used it a few times, but it has worked very well so far. I was a bit skeptical about the velcro pad for attaching discs, but I’ve been pleasantly suprised.

Disks stay in place even under occasional heavy pressure/friction forces. My first use for this tool was sanding down some drywall seams, and then giving the primer I sprayed on the new drywall a light sanding to even out my rookie spray-job.

I was expecting the usual “dust everywhere” mess from that job, and I couldn’t believe how well this unit’s dust collector worked! Very little of that unbelievably fine, powdery, drywall dust escaped, which meant less time cleaning up after the job.

I have put this orbital palm sander thought many rigorous operations from sanding plaster, drywall, virgin wood, old painted wood, steel and its done it all. I took it apart (very easy) to clean out the dust.

Inside I found ALL the bearing surfaces were Sealed Ball Bearings! To me that speaks quality! I typically use it on the highest speed setting and always have it attached to my shop vac so for me the 8 holes on the bottom of the unit do function and allow my shop vac to pick up virtually all of the dust.

Rarely if ever do I ever see any swirl marks. I am very pleased with its performance and value for the money. I use it on a daily basis and for me it gets every job I throw at it job done! I would highly recommend this unit to either a beginner or professional.

I use from 40 grit to 320 grit aluminum oxide sanding discs. I have used it for at least a year now. Hope this helps.

I used my son-in-laws Dewalt orbital sander two weeks ago at his place. Since then I needed an orbital sander to finish two 6 drawer oak cabinets. I shopped around, pricing several orbital sanders, including Dewalt.

I decided to check out Harbor Freight. I bought this Bauer Orbital Sander for less than 1/3rd the price of other brand name sanders. After sanding both cabinets and all 12 drawers, I wouldn’t but anything other than the Bauer.

I read some of the reviews, specifically complaints on the dust collector. My dust collector worked great. I’m very handy with tools, and found this tool well designed, including the dust collector. I’ve learned some people are incompetent in using tools.

I suspect that is why some people can’t make this tools dust collector work!!!.

TranslateShow in original languageCette ponceuse m’a été recommandée par un ami qui la possédait déjà et qui me la recommandait. Selon lui elle présente un rapport qualité/efficacité/prix imbattable et après une première utilisation je ne suis pas déçu.

Prévoir l’achat d’un lot de disques de remplacement car les 3 fournis sont un peu juste. Point positif elle est livrée avec une caisse de protection/transport, petit bémol la caisse ne permet pas d’y ranger énormément de disques de remplacement ce qui n’est finalement qu’un détail.
