20 Best Guard Dogs For Seniors (2023 Updated)

I purchased 1 can of Halt for myself and 1 for my neighbor. We walk our small dogs and have concern for coming upon a stray dog. Stray dogs are rare in out neighborhood but there is always the possibility.

Neither of us has had to use this product so I cannot speak to its effectiveness. The can appears easy to use and small enough to carry easily. There is comfort knowing that a method of defense is at hand if needed.

The shipping was very speedy. I think I received three days after ordering. Thank you Chewy. I rated this 4 stars because I have not had reason to test it.

I do not need to tell any of you how terrible a dog attack on your pet is. This shoots a pretty good stream. But you have to keep some things in mind. Know which way the wind is blowing. It will get blown back at you.

It will not kill anybody elses pet but I am sure the argument afterwards is terrible. I did use this on a loose dog that went after me on my bike and also a cat that ran across my yard after my 9pound dog.

It worked. Get them in the face. These days when it is harder to get mace and carrying a stick is considered assaulting in some states I find these a very resonable preventative. And do not let your dog chew the can at home.

My golden retrievers and I were recently attacked by a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd while on our daily walk. We were saved by a passing car. The attack was truly terrifying and I was scared to go walking without some type of protection.

I started looking for various devices I could use to protect myself but most items were too bulky or illegal to carry. My dad was a mail carrier and I remember he always had a can or Halt! on his belt whenever he went to work.

I didn’t know if Halt! was still made or used. but I’m so glad I found it here on eBay.

Receiver failed in less than 6mo. I bought the dogtra, having been fooled into thinking it was a better product by their higher price tag and marketing, mainly looking for a waterproof collar. Wishing now I would’ve saved 100 and gotten a lesser known brand.

Customer service is barely adequate, no paid postage on warranty repairs, no troubleshooting advice (probably a failed battery but I’ll never know), slow turnaround time, then you get a repaired or replacement collar that’ll carry a 90 DAY WARRANTY! That’s right folks, the remainder of my 1 year warranty (slightly over 6 months) has been reduced to 90 days because their low quality product needed to have warranty repairs.

Unbelievable, literally unbelievable that a company like this is still in business.

Product was as advertised. 8 stimulation settings permit the use of the level of correction that is appropriate for each dog. Dogtra makes quality products and this fence seems to be well made too. The actual collar could be better.

A large improvement would be if Dogtra added a bungy as they have with their training collars to make it easier to take the collar on and off the dog since it is not worn constantly. Overall, am happy with the purchase and would buy again.

This collar was used on a dog that had used a similar collar all his life, so he did not come close to the underground fence that already existed. That is, he does not get close to the perimeter of the yard so it discharges by vibrating or warning him.

I have used the collar about 2 months now and the collar-battery discharges EVERY two week. I have to recharge it about each ten days or it goes dead. The former collar lasted at least 6 months be fore recharging became necessary.

This is a PAIN! Other than the battery discharge issue, the other features of the collar are relative good.

Well K9Cuisine, I am impressed. I placed my order on Friday and FedEx delivered it on Sunday and I live in Texas whisk is half the country away from ya’ll in distance. We learned about Fromm from the obedience trainer we work with to train our Rottie.

His name is “Rocky”. The last 2 orders I have placed with K9, Rocky has had his nose planted on the box when Fed Ex delivered it. He knows it is good for him and he loves his Fromm dog food. Virtually everyday, during their neighborhood walk, my wife gets compliments about Rocky’s beautiful shiny coat and his bright clear eyes.

Initially I started with the “GOLD” version of the Fromm dry dog food. Our dog loves Fromm so much, that this time I have ordered several cases of Fromm “wet” dog food. it also arrived today and once again, Rocky’s nose was focused on that box of Fromm wet dog food.

I like Fromm because it is recommended by professional dog handlers and it is “fairly” priced. Thank you K9Cuisine for providing such “stellar” service and such fair prices. We are very pleased and Rocky is also.

This dry kibble is an excellent food for my 3 pure bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as well as my Australian Cattle Dog. The Cavaliers get a much smaller amount at each meal than the ACD. All dogs get added fresh vegetables and sometimes meat as well… if it is available for them that day.

All have been eating Fromm’s kibble for many years. The ACD is 9, she has had it for 8+ years. She is very healthy. Vet loves her coat and teeth, as well as her overall health. The Cavaliers are almost 5 and under 3 years old.

They too are very healthy. Good food, proper amount of exercise and playtime, as well as free time to relax keeps them in great shape. You will pay a bit more for the Fromm’s dry food. But the overall health benefits of it are undeniable.

I personally, would rather spend the money on quality food, and not on vet bills for unhealthy dogs. This just makes sense to me. Try it…. It can improve or maintain the health of your dogs as well.

My breeder weaned my new Standard Dachshund puppy on this food so I ordered a big bag of it. Theo is in love with it but not only that but if I mix in a few with my miniature dachshunds kibble she gobbles it all up! She hasn’t eaten strictly kibble for the past year due to being 15 years old, having tooth abscesses and just being 15 and demanding whatever the heck she wants! Plus before I lost my other girl in May of 2020 and my boy on the 1st of February 2021(both mini dachshunds and both a little under and a little over, respectively, 13 and a half years old) they were having issues with eating enough or at all so they got whatever garbage food they wanted, something I never allowed in their lives but at that point making sure they ate enough calories and kept their weight steady was more important than the garbage that was in the foods.

but because they got garbage Kayla also wanted garbage. Now that it’s just Kayla and new baby Theo (who only eats this kibble) she will go and snatch up all of his kibbles that she can due to her being both an Alpha female and a jerk.

but it works in my favor being I no longer have to beg her to eat nor spoon feed her! Theodore is even more in love with this kibble, he doesn’t care about ANY dog cookies, he’s tried atleast 20 kinds from different brands, flavors, hard or soft, etc and he couldn’t care less but this food? He will do ANYTHING for it! I now portion out his daily food allowance in 3 small containers and if he wants them he has to earn them in our training sessions that I do 4-6 times a day because he’s both a demonpuppy and smart as all heck which makes him a nightmare combo! But thankfully he will do anything for this food so his puppy bootcamp is working really well so far! I don’t know what’s in this stuff but I affectionately call it “puppy crack” because he can’t get enough and even my old lady loves it! 10/10 would recommend it!.

This did exactly what I needed it to do! Chance can now go outside and do his business without losing his balance and falling. It’s great for coming up the few steps he needs to climb. He’s a BIG boy and it is great to help him without causing me difficulty.

He doesn’t mind wearing it because now he knows it helps. Thanks again for such a wonderful product. I would highly recommend.

He insists on going up the stairs at night to sleep with our family, and downstairs in the morning, but he waits patiently for his GingerLead. Of course we use it all the time, and Bruno seems very comfortable with it.

He now WANTS to go out for a walk rather than laying around the house – he’s on the go again! The GingerLead has really added to Bruno’s quality of life.

I have changed to the Senior formula because my Mastiff moves a lot less these days – but needed the proper nutrition level for her breed and size. She is much more active now and moves like she is a puppy again ! She absolutely loves the taste and her “business” is very easy to pick up ! I would definitely recommend for Large Breed older dogs !.

I have tried NUMEROUS dry dog foods for my senior Sheltie after Precise went out of business for months!! My prior Sheltie live to 16. 5 years on Precise and he had minimal health issues. Nutrisource Senior is the BEST replacement I found.

Other foods caused too many digestive orders or he just didn’t like them. Dusty’s digestive track has returned to normal on this food and he gobbles it down everyday. He really likes this food and am glad my search is over!.

These beds are not great, they’re AMAZING. They are literally the best purchase you can make as far as a dog’s bed. Unless your dog just destroys their beds, these are perfect. You can wash them whenever you want, they’re comfortable, my dogs absolutely love them.

I have two black labs and a white German Shepherd, So I have all kinds of hair everywhere. And these beds catch a lot of that hair. It’s awesome that I can go outside, shake them out, and then throw them in the washer and they’re done.

Over the years I’ve bought a lot of beds for my dogs, a lot of them tend to wear out over time, my younger black lab likes to chew on them and tear them up. But he does not do that with these beds for whatever reason.

So after all the 30 and 40 and $50 beds I’ve bought over the years, don’t hold a candle to the paw. com beds. They’re pretty much a one-time purchase and I’ve had my first one for over 3 years now, I just bought my second one this last November, 2021.

And now I have one for the living room and one for the bedroom, and next year I’m going to get another one for upstairs. And the dogs will have plenty of places to lay, aside from the couches ;-).

This is the absolute, hands down best pet bed ever!! We have tried other beds and our dog would not even go on it. She loves this bed, and we put the blanket on the floor in our room because we have new carpet and she stays on their all night.

We cannot even coerce up on the bed anymore. They are beautiful, look great in our home and are super soft and comfortable. I have not washed them yet but I have no doubt they come out like new. I would suggest purchasing the giant size for labs.

Our yellow lab is 75 lbs and we tried the large but it just wasn’t quite big enough. The thickness is perfect, probably 3 or 4”. Anything thicker and our dog doesn’t like it. Also love the white color, it has twinges of brown at the end of the fur and the bottom of the blanket is a beautiful dark brown.

Goes very well with our home decor. And arrived very quickly, in just a couple days.

This is the second pup rug I have bought. The only reason I bought this one was the inside of the cover was falling apart & leaving pieces of plastic like crazy in my washing machine. The new one I bought is not as thick and the zipper only works from one end as the first one had a zipper on both ends.

Also the inside waterproof liner now is Velcro and the original had of zipper. I thought the foam would expand after I opened it up but I ended up putting the foam from my old bed and this new bed together inside the cover.

Loved my first one very much. Obviously they have cut corners to save money and I am not really impressed with the final product. I will probably look elsewhere next time for a dog bed.

I bought this food based on the great reviews and similar ingredients to our usual dog food but it didn’t work out for our sensitive pit mix. It just didn’t agree with her even though I did an extremely gradual switch from her other salmon dog food.

The first day, she had bad diarrhea all evening. She uncharacteristically wanted to stay outside and went to hide behind bushes in the yard. When I got her to come inside, she hid in dark rooms she never goes in.

She also had an accident in the house. (She’s never hid before or had accidents as an adult. ) I had started with 1-2 tbsp (very small percentage of her total meal) 2x/day. When I saw her upset her stomach was not resolving, I held off a day or 2 then resumed at 12-14 pieces of kibble per meal but could never go higher than 25 morsels because she felt so bad.

One night she was breathing extremely fast which the vet said is what they do when feeling bad or distressed. As soon as I stopped this food, the diarrhea stopped. I guess her stomach is just really sensitive.

She’s back on the other brand made for sensitive systems. If you have a sensitive dog, I recommend trying a small bag first. I gave 1 star for taste, as the dog didn’t mind the flavor.

I had originally started my big pit mix rescue on the diamond naturals skin and coat formula, which he loved. The kibble pellets were small, ball shaped, they fit in a slow feeder toy that he loves, and it was a good smell, as far as a dog is concerned.

But when I got our boxer pup, who also ended up being over 90 pounds, I decided to go ahead and switch them both over to a large breed food when I switched the boxer off of his puppy food. The Diamond large breed formulas are completely different, both lamb and chicken.

The kibbles disc-like, much bigger and flatter, they’re lighter in color, which I don’t know if that makes a difference, they dont seem as dense, and they don’t seem to have much smell either. It must be a little like eating cardboard pellets.

Even the rescue, who will literally eat anything, will actually leave breakfast until dinner and then finally eat it. He never does that! So sadly I’ve had to start looking for another brand.

I have a 7 year old Jack Russell Terrier that first started on Orijen Original when I took him off puppy food at around the age of 1. I fed him Orijen for several years and it worked well for him. He is very muscular and athletic and his coat is always very dense and healthy-looking.

Our vet always comments on what perfect shape Ike is in. A couple years ago I started hearing about a condition called canine dilated cardiomyopathy and a possible connection to grain-free foods. Wanting to take no chances I switched Ike to a couple different foods containing grains.

Now, Ike loves anything and wolfs any food put in front of him but the problem was cleaning up after him during potty time. I tried different grain-inclusive foods and with all of them his stools were looser and messier and harder to clean up.

I recently read more about the DCM and the FDA investigation and found that a determination was made that DCM could not be linked to grain-free foods. I switched back to Orijen a couple weeks ago and the problem disappeared.

Ike’s poops are firm again and he is much easier to clean up after. It may sound like a crazy reason to recommend a dog food but when you are picking up tootsie rolls instead of messy soft-serve three times a day it makes a big difference! Ike and I both love Orijen Original and recommend it.

I had been looking for a high quality kibble for my 18 month old working GSD for a long time! I had tried numerous brands even tried some of the fresh alternatives which for me are extremely expensive, but do offer good quality.

My dog is extremely high energy and doesn’t really have an “off switch” and as such has had more than his fair share of GI issues in his young life. We finally determined he could not tolerate chicken or turkey or duck, nothing with feathers as the protein source.

He also can not tolerate blueberries, yes you read that correctly, something as good as blueberries twists his GI tract up terribly. This Orijen is one of very few kibble recipes that have no fowl and no blueberries and he absolutely loves it! The protein is very high quality and there are some grains to ensure he gets the taurine he needs as well.

If I had one issue with the recipe I would say it’s with the addition of the mackerel fish, while I understand the need for the oils for omega’s I would rather see salmon used instead. He seems to be doing well his poop’s are for the most part firmish and there is about 25-30 percent less of it so I believe he is absorbing more of the nutrients.

The price is about what you would expect to pay for food of this quality and about 50 percent less than the “subscription” based “fresh” foods.

I never fully got on the grain-free bandwagon, and now that I’ve read the FDA report connecting grain-free dog foods to canine dilated cardiomyopathy, I’m glad I didn’t! I got my new pup at 9 weeks about 3 months ago, and he was on wet food but showing interest in his dad’s kibble at that time.

The vet said she recommended “anything except grain-free,” so I started checking ingredients, looking at reviews, and reading through all the published studies about canine diet that I could get my hands on.

Orijen Amazing Grains Puppy Food was my first pick, and while it took my pup a little while to get used to it (he wanted to play with it rather than eat it!), he’s taken to it well. He still eats his wet food first, but then he snacks on this kibble throughout the day.

He’s healthy and happy, seems to have no digestive issues at all, and certainly enjoys mealtime. For my part, I’m happy to see lots of quality meat ingredients, no peas or potatoes (the problem ingredients related to heart issues), and a good protein and fat ratio.

It’s a little pricy, sure, but for a dog likely won’t top 10 pounds, it’s affordable. We’re going do a rotation diet, so he gets a variety of proteins and isn’t dependent on one brand, but Orijen is definitely going to be part of the regular diet.

I have a five year old Australian Shepherd who is notoriously picky – we have been feeding him “ultra premium” food from the pet store as it’s the only thing he will eat. I slowly introduced this into his diet and he loves it.

I looked at the IAMS bag versus the bag of food we were feeding him and I was surprised to see that the IAMS was actually better. IAMS had real lamb, no filler, no artificial preservatives, natural animal protein and complete and balanced nutrition.

Not to mention the fact the other food cost three times as much for a smaller bag. I love my dog and want him to have the best and sometimes I automatically think that means more expensive- in this instance that’s not the case.

We are switching to IAMS and I would definitely recommend other pet owners at the very least compare labels. You might just be surprised.

Iams was doing a vet checkup challenge where you’d be reimbursed for getting your pet his yearly checkup. The timing was perfect because it was his time to get checked and though this is not his regular food (Purina ProPlan or sensitive skin one is) I figured I would buy the lamb one since Purina Proplan has been out of the flavor for a while.

If my dog didn’t like it then I’d donate the other bag. Well, turns out he enjoys it and it doesn’t bother his stomach or skin. So, I also asked the vet at the checkup if this brand was OK to feed him? He’s previously mentioned Purina, Royal Canin and Hill’s science.

He said yes! So what’s not to love? I saved money on his checkup and I discovered a new brand that my vet approved and has the flavor my dog likes! Thank you Iams for my dog’s checkup, and sorry for overlooking you in the past.

Works great for what I need it for. It is well worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone, also I am thinking of getting a couple more.

Three months ago I adopted a 12-year-old hound-mix named Daisy. She came with two bags of an expensive kibble that can only be purchased from its website. She came with the ‘all life stages’ variety of the food.

Before long I realized that she would beg to go out, and then eat grass until she vomited. That was happening with increasing frequency. It occurred to me that a senior dog like Daisy might need a food formulated for older dogs rather than ‘all life stages’.

This brand of food she came with does not have a senior formula. So I began transitioning her to 4Health’s Mature Adult kibble. I have been feeding 4Health to my dogs for years. Before Daisy was even fully switched to 4Health, the grass eating and vomiting stopped.

I believe she needed a senior formula and 4Health Mature Adult was the answer. I recommend 4Health to my animal-owning friends.

I’ve been giving the mobility powder to my 7lb. 8-year-old Papillon with luxating patellae for less than a month. I do think her jumping and use of stairs has improved a bit but need to give it more time to be sure.

Originally, I tried a joint supplement in chew form from the vet, but after several tries, my dog absolutely refused to take it. From my perspective, the chew smell was awful. The $65 bag went in the trash.

I now sprinkle just a half scoop of the Wapiti mobility powder on her wet food. She doesn’t even notice I’ve added it. Success in that regard! Will see how she does on it over a longer period of time.

I’m hopeful.

This is a an excellent product! I definitely will highly recommend it. Our senior 12yr large breed dog was pretty sick after an acute case of Gastritis/ Pancreatitis. After coming back home from the hospital and resting for a couple of days, he improved when he started eating.

But suddenly started slowing down and his Dr attributed it to old age which I refused to agree- limping/ weakness of hind legs, to the point where he could not even brace himself to get up to go potty (we had to help him on a few days!).

I was so afraid, and wanted to do the best for him! This product showed me positive relief in just 2-3 days! He’s back to his excited self, has started walking again and we go for walks ( some days a short walk to the park, some others he will decide he wants to walk more- 1/2 mile or more some days).

He doesn’t go for 2mile+ walks like before but I am happy with this activity level for him. I also got the more powerful product sold under “Energy”, same company to be used on special occasions. I have added a few other supplements- probiotics, multivitamins, and also turmeric.

I also slowly switched him from the prescription diet the vet had him on to a home cooked meal. I started increasing his protein, literally boiled very lean turkey and add to his kibble. I considered home cooking for good (which I did for the first 3-4 weeks, but now add kibble to the meat.

I am not sure if it’s just this product by Wapiti or a combination of products and diet that is helping. In any case, I will be continuing this product and am on the auto-refill plan! 🙂 Thank you Chewy for the MOST amazing service! You guys are seriously amazing!.

My Rottweilers have been on this food for approximately 7 years and they still love it. Although the kibble size is large, Otis still nearly chokes because he Hoover’s his food up rather than chewing it properly so an even larger kibble size would suit him better.

His twin sister is usually more sensible, but even she has been known to nearly choke. The fact they are so enthusiastic is testament to how scrumptious they still thinks it is after all of these years.

It took me quite a while to find a good quality food that didn’t upset their digestion. It was a real process of elimination when they were pups and when they were moving out of the puppy food stage onto grown up food.

Rottweilers are sensitive souls and this applies to their immune system and digestion so a hypoallergenic food was an important requirement. You can’t put anything that isn’t 100% safe, clean and healthy into a Rottie without it having unsavoury consequences on their delicate body systems.

I highly recommend this food.

My Black Labrador boy who died a couple of years ago had a very sensitive gut almost anything would give him the s**ts. I tried Arden Grange Chicken & Rice because it was made in Sussex & local as I was living there at the time.

He never had a gut problem again so now I have a 12 week old Yellow Labrador girl. I immediately weaned her from the breeders food to Arden Grange puppy/junior. She loves it & is thriving. I even use it as training treats.

she already comes to the gun dog whistle.

We have only been using this product for around 3 weeks now, we bought it after reading other good reviews on this food for dogs with sensitive/ digestive problems. Our 4 year old rescue border collie has had quite a number of issues with ill health this year, resulting in him losing a lot of weight, although he has previously been on meds from our vet his issues have cleared now apart from the fact we have found it difficult to get him to gain weight.

He is a good eater but incredibly active and we have manged to stabilise his weight loss. We decided to try him on Arden Grange sensitive and after 3 weeks he has gone from 14. 3 kgs to 14. 9 kgs, this is a huge step forward for us all !! We will see how he continues over the next few months, I have also been giving him the Yu Digest tablets, which we started him on at the same time as the Arden Grange, so cannot say for definite if the tablets are helping or it is the dog food, maybe its a combo of them both working well together, we are hoping his weight gain continues now, he should be at least around 16kg for his size.

After saying all that he is very healthy and active despite a bit on the thin side !!.

Nexgard is amazing if you live in the south with relentless fleas. I have two dogs and the one that can tolerate it, it’s fantastic. However, on the day of administering she’s always lethargic and has no appetite.

After day one, she’s good to go. My second dog can’t tolerate Nexgard. It caused seizures and I’m so grateful that once it was out of his system, the seizures stopped. After bringing this up at the dog park it turns out that this is all to common and those I spoke to weren’t so lucky.

There are always side effects with medications and it’s not something that always gets discussed but be aware. You don’t know until you know. For my dog that had issues, we’re using a collar and a natural spray and hoping for the best.

I purchase this product for my 13 year old – 5 pound 2 ounce Chihuahua. I started purchasing from Petmeds because my Vet has been having supply issues, and wanting to change my Fur babies medication to different medications every month to every 3 months.

Considering my Fur babies age and possible complications in constant changing of medications I decided that Petmeds was a better option for our Family. I also like that there are some savings involved with purchasing from Petmeds than purchasing from my Vet.

Petmeds also includes a treat for my Fur baby, however I do have to break it into several smaller pieces. Maybe consider a treat for a small Fur baby instead of one that would be more appropriate for my larger German Shepherd Siberia Husky Fur baby.

This would get zero stars from me if I could. I understand it’s our dog and not the product. But really. Vets pushing a product that nearly killed our dog and this is no joke! Worst of all, I was the one that put it all together and figured it out.

We moved and had to find a new vet. Found one that we all liked. It was time to get heartworm and flea and tic meds. Vet was sold on Nexgard. (Nextguard). We have our dog the first dose. A couple days later, she had diarrhea and was constantly whining to go out.

She stopped eating unless handled or she would eat a little chicken. She laid around day and night and became very lethargic. Every test you can imagine was done. Nothing! I even asked the vet if he thought it might be from the Nexgard.

NO. After about 3 weeks she was doing a little better. Next month another dose and here we go again! She lost 10 pounds, bumps all over her. I think that was lymph nodes. She looked awful. I hand fed her daily.

She struggled to go to the bathroom and grunted the entire time she tried and it was gross, slimy, diarrhea. I really thought we’d lose her. I started reading on Nexgard and finally found an article about someone’s dog with the exact same thing going on.

We stopped using it and went back to Bravecto. Our dog is back. Fully recovered! I will never again change something for her that is working. I only hope someone finds this review to save your family member.

Better yet. I wished this never happened to anyone else. Heart wrenching.

I was on the fence about purchasing this for our then 7 m old puppy. In the 4 – 5 months we had her I had tried 9 different food of all prices, brands, flavors. We had used toppers both store bought and homemade, she would not eat most more than once or twice.

She eventually walked away and would not eat any at all. Frustrated I had inquired the company and learned about the product. They also provided a good coupon to try it. The dog loved it. Ate it without a topper or any fuss.

When I had questions the company responded and has even called me to answer. I be sure to feed proper amount and she is doing well. The kibble is pellet shaped and easy to chew and break–our vet has said my spaniel has a soft mouth–and she does refuse many bones, treats and apparently food due to this.

She does not like canned food either. Water on dry kibble didnt suit her for the most part. This worked. Probably very good for dogs with teeth issues or no teeth. Our senior dog has been sneaking bites of this food instead of his own–he has few teeth at 16 yrs.

Questions about ingredients I had were checked out and answered to my satisfaction. I would recommend it. I’ve just ordered another bag!.

I have a young adult mastiff. He developed a condition called EPI. It’s pancreatic insufficiency so he cannot digest food without added pancreatic enzymes. He was raised raw fed. When he was diagnosed I needed a dog food that I could use to pack on weight he had lost.

That did not have fat in the first 5 ingredients(risk of bloat), and that wasn’t full of legumes and excess fiber. I also needed it to be able to be digested at the same rate as raw mixed in each meal.

I looked at more dog food than I care to remember. I went with the Bil Jac since it isn’t extruded and is the same recipe as when I used it 20 years ago. It’s worked out perfectly. He really likes it.

It digests great. Doesn’t inhibit the absorption of the enzymes. On the days where his B12 drops and he doesn’t want to eat I can add water to the Bill Jac and in 5 minutes make balls to toss down his throat lol My other two dogs who won’t touch “dog food” or “dog treats” now demand a share of Bil Jac too.

That pretty much sums up how tasty dogs find this stuff.

We’ve had our dog for 5 months and he’s had chronic diarrhea the whole time. We have cleaned the carpets 3 times since then. We’ve spent so much money in vet visits, antibiotics, probiotics, blood work, X-rays, prescription diets and expensive non- prescription diets, sensitive stomach diets, and no answers from the vet.

Everything came back normal. We were thinking anxiety. So I went broke trying jackets, calming collars, sprays, CDB oil… no help. There was a bil jac rep in my local pet store who talked me into trying a small bag of this kibble.

I was reluctant to try, but had nothing to lose. I opened the bag and was weirded out by the shape of the kibble. It looks like the pellets/sticks you feed turtles in a pond. But I gave it to my dog and he inhaled it! One week later… no diarrhea.

I am shocked!! And so thankful! I realize this ( like any other food) won’t work for all dogs. There’s no one size fits all. But I would encourage anyone to at least give it a try!!!.

I felt I had to write an honest review here as I couldn’t give the product 5 stars because of Iams alleged animal cruelty during testing. I love animals and cannot feed my dog a product that may have caused the suffering or death of other animals.

It would have felt very immoral and dishonest of me if I did not include these concerns in review. I previously boycotted Iams due to a public investigation that was organised by Peta which exposed the alleged, horrendous treatment of animals in laboratories used by Iams.

However, I read the report that Iams had agreed to stop using this facility and style of testing so I fed my dog the samples I received free from Influenster and she seemed content with the product as long as I mixed it with water and added some scraps or she got bored with the taste.

This is the same for most dry food I give her. I did contact Peta directly to find out if Iams are still involved in inhumane animal testing and unfortunately they told me that Iams do still test on animals and gave me sources and links for further info.

I have attached screenshots of my email from Peta for validation. Therefore I cannot recommend Iams until they stop allegedly testing animals in contract laboratories or carrying out any form of inhumane testing.

My puppy did enjoy the food and reacted well with maintaining firm faeces. I received this food as a complimentary gift from Influenster in return for my honest review. Although the first ingredient is 32% Dried Chicken and Turkey only 19% of that is chicken.

With my understanding “Dried” is when the raw materials are pre-dried, grounded into a powder and mixed rapidly and dried with hot air and cooled and coated in oils to make it palatable. I believe from reading the ingredients list that these biscuits are coated in “animal fats” to make it more appetising for the dogs.

However, with the food being dried in this way, it makes it quite processed and therefore loses most of the meats vitamins. The food also isn’t hypoallergenic which is an important aspect for dogs who might have allergies.

It also states “wheat free” but is made in a factory that handles wheat. The 800g bag is only £3. 00 and is cheap and can be found in pet shops and in high street shops making it a good product for the general dog owner as it’s convenient.

A 12kg bag is £29. 99 and in comparison to other dog foods, you might as well pay more for a better quality food and consequently end up feeding less due to the higher meat content and less carbohydrates and fillers.

So a bag will generally last longer! The ingredients also list fish oil and dried whole egg which is great for skin and coat condition but again the labelling isn’t very clear and doesn’t state how much of that is in the food.

Overall an average product but I’m happy to be able to review it and begin looking into dog foods more!!.

He completed our lives and came to his forever home 5months ago. Let’s just say I’ve been very busy with this Gorgeous delinquent ever since, but wouldn’t change a thing. So onto George Ruperts review…….

Great product and great size pellets with a pleasant smell also (dare I say). George definitely couldn’t wait to get into them! They are Incredibly versatile also as they can be used as training treats, in brain stimulation puzzle toys, snuggle mats etc alongside their daily allowance or even to make up their allowance for some variety without having to use other treats that you may not like the ingredients of.

Due to their size they are great for all of the above and a puppy for eating and digesting. By all accounts they taste great and are fantastic fun for throwing and chasing around the kitchen before devouring, so George demonstrates and tells me! I have only given 4 stars as not sure on the long term use of them and visible benefits as it’s only a small packet, Iams Vitality Puppy Small/Medium Breed With Fresh Chicken 800G but what we did use was very much enjoyed with good ingredients and no nasties.

I was in search of a kibble that isn’t full of processed junk and was so happy when I found out that Farmina has food for MINI SENIORS. I refuse to feed my pets anything where the first 3-5 ingredients isn’t a protein (no corn, by-product, flavor, etc).

I was also happy to see herring and egg listed in the ingredients. This food doesn’t smell the best, but I believe that’s how you know the ingredients are REAL. I got this for my 13 y/o Miniature Pinscher.

You can tell she’s a senior and is slowly approaching her years (she can no longer jump onto the sofa and is going blind/deaf), but this food has gave her energy again!! She’s more alert and you can tell she’s happier than before.

I highly recommend this brand if you’re not able to go with the raw/fresh route.

My 13 yr. old rescue Beagle girl, Macie, is a bit particular as in really, really picky regarding her food. She LOVES Farmina of which I ordered a small amount just to try. It seems to be quite nutritious, and I will speak to my Vet to see if we can continue to use this brand.
