It does the trick, though you need to grind on a lower setting than it notes for a regular coffee maker otherwise you end up with a large grind and bland coffee! It’s also loud as HECK – but – what do you expect really? All in all, it gets the job done and is easy to use!.

This coffee grinder works much better than the blade grinder i previously had, I also like the smaller bean bin, easier to store. I would highly recommend this product.

Having never owned a “proper” grinder capable of grinding for espresso I’m generally pleased with the Sette 30, which I use both for espresso with my Rancilio Silvia and for drip coffee with my OXO Barista Brain.

I understand this is essentially an “entry level” grinder and have set my expectations accordingly. The design seems decent enough and I like the open/close lever on the hopper to be able to swap out for decaf beans.

The only issue there is you’ll obviously need to get the coffee already in the grinder out if you don’t want to have a tiny bit of a blend, but the adjustment assembly is quick enough to remove and make this happen.

The hopper does feel a bit cheap and I’m a bit worried about breaking it but I tend not to remove it that often so I doubt it will be an issue for me. The timer is very useful and I have found as long as the hopper is well loaded that the amount of coffee being ground is rather consistent with the timer.

At a setting of 25 I usually need about 2 seconds per cup of drip coffee I want to brew and even over 10 seconds, for 5 cups, the output does not vary by a lot. For espresso, at least when paired with the Silvia, is where I have to deduct the 5th star.

For starters, the suggested settings for espresso (7-10) were far too fine for the Silvia and resulted in zero coffee flow. Also, I found that 14 was too coarse and resulted in a rather sour pull, but 13 resulted in a bit of an overextraction, although this seems to have been somewhat remedied by getting a distributor tool.

I have also ordered the Sette 270 adjustment assembly which (apparently) fits perfectly on the Sette 30 and am hoping that will give me the extra precision I’m looking for. I know others have mentioned it’s a bit loud but frankly it seems about right for a coffee grinder.

Also, it does make a bit of a mess due to grinder static but I make a mess with my espresso machine too so it doesn’t really bother me. 🙂 In general, quite satisfied with it, and hoping the 270 adjustment assembly takes it up that extra notch.

As a note (this does not factor into my overall review) the first one I picked up was dead out of the box, as the timer would count down but the motor would not turn at all. The iDrinkCoffee staff took care of me quickly with no issue and tested the replacement in store just to be sure.

I’ve been using the Sette 270Wi for a couple of weeks now. Firstly, the grind quality and particle size consistency for espresso specifically is far superior to the Breville Smart Grinder Pro I was previously using.

There is plenty of range to play with and the secondary stepless adjustment ring provides plenty of further control. Grind by weight is also a fabulous workflow once you get the hang of it. It’s really easy to adjust one variable at a time and let the grinder take care of the rest.

In my experience so far, once calibrated, the grinder is usually accurate to within 0. 1-0. 2g on nearly all occasions. When it isn’t, it makes the adjustment for next time, and what I’ve found particularly useful if the grinder slightly underdoses is the short burst function you can use by a quick press of the start/stop button which ejects an additional ~0.

1g at a time. Retention seems very low, very little static, a FAST grind for a home machine, and a very clean and intuitive workflow. The build quality is good, though not excellent – stainless steel where there needs to be, plastic everywhere else – but there is reassuring weight to the grinder.

I would add that I give this 5 stars as an espresso grinder, which is what I bought it for. I installed one of the provided shims, which dials it in to being finer and this would make pour-over or immersion style grinds practically unfeasible.

It is quite loud, as a lot of reviews will mention, but in my opinion not excessively so. If noise is an issue for you, perhaps look elsewhere. It’s certainly not a grinder for everything or everyone, but if you’re looking for a primarily espresso grinder with very intuitive workflow and consistency at an affordable price, I would totally recommend it.

Bottom line: Good quality, stylish, versatile, sustainable, zero retention grinder with amazing customer service. First, the cardinal rule for espresso and ‘all things coffee’ is to put your money towards a good quality burr grinder first.

I have four of these. I have a 270 for me, and then I’ve gotten three more for each of my three kids as they went off to college as graduation gifts, per the cardinal rule. Here are some thoughts:1. If you want zero retention, single dose grinding across various brew methods, with espresso being one of them, this is the grinder.

I have a rancilio Silvia Machine and I also like pour over. So I have the standard burr set and metal 270 adjustment ring so I can dial in espresso. The fine tuning makes a difference if you have a Gaggia Classic/Rancilio Silvia or better Espresso machine.

BUT for my pour over, I bought from their website their s2 course burr set, nozzle, and plastic Sette 30 adjustment ring (less than $50 for everything that set) so I can quick switch out my burr sets for pourover.

So in the AM, I grind and pull espresso for the kids drinks with the 270 burr set, and switch out the s2/30 burr set to grind beans for my pourover, and this way I don’t get the fines from the espresso in my pourover grind.

Zero retention means I don’t waste a gram of coffee. which adds up. 2. Refurbished models are great. I’ve gotten their refurbished models at least twice from Baratza’s website WHEN they have them. I think you save $50? They work like a charm.

I did have problems on one of them, but Baratza serviced the heck out it which takes me to point 3, the most important. 3. Things break. The ability to repair these, have them repaired, get parts direct from Baratza WITH amazing customer service is worth the cost.

I’ve had less expensive grinders (Capresso) which worked great, but once they broke, they were landfill fodder, while Baratza’s are made to be serviced or repaired. Sustainability is important to me, and I’m kind of a DIY guy that does my own Rancilio/Baratza repairs, but Baratza does have a mail in option.

And even if you are not a DIY person, they do have repair videos, etc, as the electronics and mechanics of a grinder isn’t too intense. I will say that to get into the grinder, you need a torx bit set.

Most recently I found a used 270 for WAY under market value from a private seller, and when it came, it had some issues that if you don’t know how to fix things, might have made the grinder useless. However, I was able to open it up, get replacement parts, and service it so it’s as good as ‘refurbished.

‘ Fixability is key. 4. Finally, their customer service is amazing. I can’t stand emailing companies, but Baratza is quite fast with their response time (usually within a day) and they have always advised, and sent out parts as needed in a timely manner.

They have aways exceeded expectations!.

I bought this because my husband no longer enjoyed the hand grinder. I was looking for the smallest option because I only grind 1-3 servings per time and do not store beans in the hopper. I have owned many grinders, with the best being baratza encore.

This was the cheapest/smallest I could find with the best reviews. I have been using it a few days and it works well. The plastic does feel cheap, but it grinds well. Perhaps too well, but I don’t care that much.

I use it for pour over but I am setting it on the most coarse setting and it still seems too fine. I don’t see how it could work for French press without being overprocessed and too bitter. Either way, grinds seem consistent and it gets the job done quickly.

This is a great coffee grinder. I’ve never owned one before and was worried it would just be an annoying extra step in the coffee-making process. Before using, I read the directions straight through and found them to be easy to follow and accurate.

There are several options for how coarse or fine you want your beans ground. It also gives the option to only grind a certain amount depending on how many cups of coffee you’re making. It is a bit loud but not any louder than a food processor.

Grinds consistently, although I did have to adjust my settings to find the right grind. Clean up isn’t difficult, although a little messy. It turned out to be a smooth process overall.

Overall, an excellent budget manual grinder. Consistency in medium to fine settings is good. A bit less so for coarse grinds but there is an inexpensive mod for that. The only serious drawback is grind speed.

It takes awhile to grind 20 or more grams for my morning coffee. Now that I am switching to cold brew, the prospect of grinding 340 grams for my toddy brewer. Is almost impossible to imagine. Except for one likely unintended feature of the Skerton Pro.

The handle connects vis a 7mm hex shaft. A 7mm nut driver fits perfectly. So slip that nut driver bit into an impact driver and Bobs your uncle!The design of the grinder is very good, the glass bottom is well made.

All in all, a great grinder for the budget minded or tool guy or gal.

Firstly, as a coffee grinder, the Hario Smart G works & works well. There are however, two specific/frustrating flaws that warrant a lower score. 1. While the lower chamber (that catches grounds) is easily secured, the top (where the beans go in) lid is not & pops open almost every time.

If i’m grinding for 2, this can result in beans flying out. 2. The handle needs to be JAMMED onto the burr axle (which is then very difficult to remove) if you don’t want it coming lose while grinding.

I’m not wheeling this thing around like a madman, but 9 times out of ten, that handle is coming off no matter how careful I am. Your mileage may vary whether these issues are. issues for you, but for me personally they do hinder what is otherwise the best hand grinder in the “affordable” category.

Burrs are great and grind reliably, however the housing design of this product is really poor, the small ring which is intended to keep the burrs seated while grinding at larger particle sizes is held in place by two small plastic clips which snapped before I even realised this piece existed.

The removable handle is a great idea for travel however you have to really push it on with great force in order to not have it constantly slip off the unit when grinding coffee, this leads to it having to be removed with reasonable force which I expect will eventually lead to wear that will mean the handle will fly off easily a lot more often.

Transparent body is good quality and it’s great having the suggested measurements on the side of the grinds bin. The rubber ring which sits in between the two halves of the unit is designed to hold the handle when not attached but also makes the unit annoying to clean, this piece can’t be left out when using the grinder in normal operation as it acts to keep the grinds bin in place when operating, it won’t secure to the rest of the unit without it present.

Small plastic lid for hopper seems fine but likely to wear as it just sits in place rather than being well secured. Overall, good burr components, poor external housing design which makes both cleaning and action/operation of the unit troublesome, not a product I would recommend.

I have used the Virtuoso for 3 months. Overall I feel it’s worth the money as an entry level all rounder grinder. Low coffee retention, high precision of grinding speed and timing, relatively quiet grinding, and the most part I love which is the sturdy build quality.

If you tune to the finest setting, it could pull espresso shots. However, as many other pointed out, you cannot do micro adjustment. Pretty much focused on brewed coffee. And there are some shortcoming as well.

The biggest disappointment with this was the popcorning issue. I have never seen worse popcorning than this one. Even using the single dose hopper, it is impossible to do single dose grinding. Basically fill up the hopper to prevent it happening.

Another disappointment I have is the grind consistency. As a $350 grinder, it could do a better job. I purchased the portafilter holder mod but it’s not that practical to be honest. You don’t need to buy a mod for this grinder.

Maybe the hopper extender could be a nice complement.

After 40+ years of hand grinding, I decided to purchase an electric burr grinder. We use a Chemex coffee maker and roast our own beans. The Virtuoso + has a good variety of grind settings, allowing me to adjust the grind according to the level of roast a particular batch.

Grind consistency seems acceptable. This grinder is a little loud so it may be an problem if used in a small apartment or house when someone is still sleeping. The one issue is that the hopper moves noticeably while the grinder is running.

I was advised to check directly with Baratza, which I did. They felt it was acceptable at this time, but offered a replacement rubber gasket and/or hopper if it got any worse. Since I just purchased the grinder, only time will tell if it ends up needing to be replaced.

I am hoping since I brought it to their attention right away, that they will offer any needed parts without charge at a later date.

This summer I purchased a stainless steel burr hand grinder for camping, noticed the improved quality of the grind compared to my Cuisinart, did my research, and decided to pull the trigger on the Encore.

Unboxing it, the first thing you notice is the heavy, solid feel of the unit. I put it together, and ground a 30 gram batch of beans to ‘season’ it. The difference in quality from the Cuisinart was again immediately apparent.

This morning I ground my usual 60 gram dose for our morning coffee in our Behmor Brazen. Beautiful grind. While brewing, I really noticed an increased wonderful, strong aroma filled the house. But improving the taste of the finished product is the real goal.

I brewed the exact same coffee as the previous day, Bolivian Caranavi La Paz, a good everyday drinker. The taste was so much better. Of course, I subconsciously ‘wanted’ it to be better, having just forked out $170 on it, so I waited for my wife’s reaction.

She had no idea she was being used as a guinea pig. Her first words were, “Holy cow, what coffee is this!!” So yeah, grind quality has a huge impact on taste. The only cons of this unit are 1. ) A silicon gasket that has to be installed over a burr is somewhat of a pain, and 2.

) A small amount of grounds tend to collect in the bottom of the collection hopper ‘housing’. I’ve also read that it’s not the best for everyday espresso prep. I rarely have espresso, so not a huge deal for me.

If you are on the fence about spending $170 for a coffee grinder, be assured that it absolutely will have a positive effect on your favorite brew.

Changed from my blade grinder to burr becuase of recommendations of friends. This Capresso Grinder is compact and does not take up much kitchen space. It was rated pretty good. It has a small bean holder on top for about 8-10 oz of beans.

There is a grind selection on the side which sets the burr, the cup selector on the front is like a timer on how much to grind. There is a 1 touch button on top to start the grind. Both the top and bottom cups are darkened plastic to prevent bright light exposure to the beans.

The ground coffee flows into the bottom cup and you will need to tap it, per the instructions and my experience, to get any loose grounds to fall into the cup before you remove it. The grind can stick to the sides like static electricity.

I then remove and tap the lid and base into my filter to the loose grind and dust. It does include a little brush to clean out, which I mainly use to clean out the area behind the cup where the grinds come from.

You can pull out some peices in the top section to clean. No issues so far.

Been using for about 6 months now and have gone through almost 100 ounces of coffee beans. The whole device is very compact, has darkened bean storage for a little more than half a pound of beans. It is ONE BUTTON automatic activation.

Adjusts for TIME of grind and SIZE of grind. Grind cup pops out and holds more than enough for a 12 cup coffee maker. It will leave some coffee dust in the back when you pop it out, but easy to clean with the small included brush.

I usually tap the lid into the filter and after pouring the grind cup, I will tap the cup to get most of the dust out. Not a big deal, as every grinder will leave some dust. It will lightly coat the sides of the grind cup, and mostly comes out with a tap.

Overall a great burr grinder that does not take up room, adjustable and automatic.

This burr grinder has a small footprint which is great if you live in a small apartment or anyplace that has very little counter space or storage space. It is very cute and I like the knobs for adjusting fineness and cup amount.

The grind is okay on fine and medium, but it does not grind coarse enough for a French Press. Also, the cup amount is not accurate. The chute needs to be cleaned out every time it is used and the static in the grounds catcher is horrible.

It sticks to the top and sides no matter how much tapping I do before removal of the grounds container. There are big clumps of fine powder stuck to the lid and sides. I end up with a big mess. If I could return the grinder, I most definitely would.

I bought this in June of 2016, so perhaps in a world where everything is meant to be thrown away I should consider myself lucky that this lasted so long. But I don’t. I shop Breville because their design is so good, and their machines perform so well.

I have a Bambino Plus Espresso machine, recently purchased, as well as an immersion blender also from Breville, and they are really excellent – so far. The issue with this heretofore excellent grinder, is that they back up the precision machined steel burrs with a cheap plastic impeller.

After clearing mulitple jams, and doing some research online, I can now see the problem is this worn plastic part – it is meant to push the grounds into the chute, but when the edges wear, it no longer does so, causing a complete jam.

I am torn – it was a great machine, but it is not cheap enough to treat as disposable. For that reason I cannot in good conscience recommend it. Time to find a better brand for my small appliance needs.

Great grinder for espresso and more. I originally bought in Nov 2018 after trying less expensive products from other brands. nothing could get a fine enough grind for my espresso machine – I ended up with watery shots.

My parents and brother each have a Breville combo grinder & espresso machine that has been working well for them. Best Buy had this item on sale so I gave it a try, hoping it would be worth the investment.

I was not disappointed – at the finest setting the grind was too fine for my machine (probably better suited for Turkish coffee style) and the coffee would not run – this was a good problem to have as it meant I had lots of room to adjust to an ideal grind setting.

Later on I purchased reusable K cups to use in the Keurig machine at work. Now I could have good coffee at home and work. After a little over two years of daily+ use, the grinder seized up. The plastic impeller used in older models had worn down and coffee grounds had built up and clogged the inner workings.

As the warranty had long since expired, I took apart the machine and gave it a good cleaning, which helped a little bit. As a long shot, I contacted Breville about my problem and they replaced my unit with no unneccesary hassle (good thing I still had my original receipt).

I took a peak at the impeller on the newer model and it looks like there’s a metal shield on it now. It’s not as large as the older style, and doesn’t seem to clear the ground coffee as effectively. I’m hopeful that there won’t be a build up of coffee and subsequent clogging with this replacement unit.

I’m a moderate coffee drinker, and had been grinding small amounts with a blade grinder. This lightweight but very capable little burr mill has revolutionized my coffee brewing. I can grind exactly what I need for the day with one touch.

There is very little fine dust to clog and slow the filter – that’s a big problem with a blade grinder. It’s easy to use and clean, doesn’t take up a lot of counter space. Nothing not to love.

i am a coffee experimenter. the first task was to actually regrind some coffe down to espresso fine. it worked. poured in the regular grind and it ground it down fine as i needed. did some beans that i wanted to add to the experimental blend and worked as well.

strange note that didnt interfere. was that if set to finest grind at 4 it slowy reset to 3. i think the burrs are reseting for optimum and not to damage themselves. this far surpasses two blade grinders i used.

Nice little grinder, easy to use and to adjust for grind size and volume of beans. Is it noisy? I think it’s likely in line with any other. Does the coffee thus ground taste better? I think so, yes. The only concern I have is that the plastic container which collects the grinds seems a bit fragile, and I hope it does not crack or otherwise break – unless a replacement is readily available.

I enjoy this one and would buy it again!.

I used to stick with dark roasts, but thanks to FRC I am finding more medium roasts that work for me. I was ambivalent when I first tried Drago, but after a few days I realized that for my palate, its possible for Drago to be a little TOO fresh.

LOL. I had heard of this phenomenon that sometimes brewing can be a bit unpredictable when the beans still have a lot of CO2. I usually prefer super fresh beans, but Drago seemed to get better after it had some time to breath.

Smells great out of the bag, but took a few days before it made a consistently smooth and satisfying pour-over. Will definitely put it in my rotation. Pleasantly surprised by this blend.

Read many reviews on this. I was most interested in the end result with espresso. Many loved it for that purpose… and… truth be told, (IMO) it makes an excellent shot of espresso. I like dark roasted espresso and wasn’t sure if the roast level was going to be sufficient.

It was and went far beyond my expectations. I have tried other types from RFC, which I really liked (Monsoon and Peruvian)… but this is the best tasting, lingering, smoothest of the 3. Love it… buying more!!! Probably my go to from here on out!!! It’s just that good.

Good solid cup of medium roast. Chocolate comes through strong and clear. I like mixing this with some dark roast, biasing the mix towards the Drago so the dark doesn’t overpower. I deduct a star only because my main criterion for rating coffee is that it be “interesting” and this one is moderately so but I’ve had others that excel.

Many will find this one a good balance of flavor and roastiness, with good solid coffee flavor, especially if you’re not particularly into that super-roasted thing.
