20 Best Grease For Polyurethane Bushings (2023 Updated)

I have been a bit of a nut when its comes to bike lubes and have tried several including marine bearing grease, Phils and Finish Line with Teflon. The latter was perhaps the biggest let down as I had high hopes due to tech and price but after disassembling my HS I discovered it to have broken down and seperated.

The thing about bikes is one could buy a particular kind of grease for several components from bearings to cables to forks but they all require the same basic function, to lubricate. Just buy this stuff.

Slickoleum has been branded under several different names but its all the same stuff. Kinda pricey but still a helluva lot better than Phil’s. This tub will last. It is bike specific and it shows. Safe on everything, so its great for delicate rubber O rings and forks.

This grease is very stable at all temps including cold which most seem to get too thick. Bikes are really not demanding on grease so its good that the designed it to be slippery and of very thin consistancy yet thick enough to stay.

We don’t need extreme pressure or high heat additives, we need slick lube that is like an oil but doesn’t go anywhere and that is what this does. Its great for bearings with plenty enough lubrication to prevent gauling while being nice and thin to make things spin fast.

The consistancy also makes it great for delicate shift cables as well as fork wipers and O rings minimizing friction. As a bonus its clearish in appearance which helps you see if there is contamination.

Just try that with any moly grease.

I was in the market for light grease to service my dropper seat post and shocks. When I searched the internet, SRAM Butter and Slickeloum were the suggested options. I wanted to have the best product so I checked the specs of both products.

On the packaging of SRAM Butter it says “Made in the US by Slickoleum”. So, basically they are the same product except the pricing. The price of Slickoleum is more reasonable than SRAM Butter. You get more product (443 ml!) with Slickoleum.

I recently used it to service my KS LEV Integra dropper seat post. The post works smooth. In between the major services, I use WPL ForkBoost to keep the stanchion smooth. Next, I will be using it when I service the fork.

I suggest every DIYer to have it in their tool kit.

Its pricey but a tub willlast years. I think this is the best bike grease because it certainly meets all the criteria for nearly every bike component from Fork seals(which it was designed for) to hubs.

I have tried another popular bike grease, Phil’s but it is basicly a marine grease and only good for hubs. Slickoleum is much more slick and thinner. This is the only grease I would use on rubber anything and on cables because its not so thick as to slow things down.

Being a grease, it stays in it place thereby preventing corrosion and water or dirt from ingressing. If I were a betting man I may bet that Phils would last longer in a hub merely because its thicker, but how much I could not know.

I do know that Slickoleum would definately increase spin and efficiency. Bottom line is you don’t need to buy a bunch of different greases for your bike when this stuff can be used everywhere. It really does lower stiction by a noticable margin, it was designed to.

Bikes are easy on grease compared to other industries and don’t really need to be stable at high temps, or for extreme pressure. We need something that protects and greatly reduces friction while not turning solid in the cold and this product does that.

Until Slickoleum, I would never dream of greasing my cables but with this it just works and makes the cables run friction free without slowing it down and unlike oils stays there. If you need grease just get this and you will be well equiped to deal with any bike lube issue.

This lubricant is like glue and sticks where you put it. Cleanup takes some effort but you don’t have to worry about it not covering well. I use it to lube polyurethane control arm bushings on install.

Nice to be able to buy this in smaller amounts as I don’t need it that often but when I do need it- I NEED IT! Ordered it up and it was at the store the next day. Very nice.

A lot different than most grease on the market. Very clean, and really nice consistency. Almost like a gel, smooth, and doesn’t loose shape. Seems like it won’t harden either. Looks like that red “close up” toothpaste.

very good grease for heavy equipment or wherever added protection is desires. grease is tacky meaning it sticks to the surface needing to be lubricated and resists pressure which means it won’t squeeze out of the place needing lube and has a higher heat resistance which means if the place to be lubricated is subject to heat it won’t liquify and run out.

Good, good, good. Get this if you want good lubricating clean grease. Im also an advocate for Gojo natural pumice soap for the after effects to your hands for easy clean-up. Also a big shout out to CRC Electronic Cleaner to clean up anything aside from your hands that gets messy or started out messy prior to beginning the project.

Works like magic with just A LITTLE spritz to make greasy or sticky things seem to disintegrate everything gunky you had building up for so long. Great for any hobby motorized stuff, for clean-up, or pre-clean of the parts you will be greasing with this product.

CAUTION!! I would go light on the first application or things CAN completely lock up instantly with the complete lack of lubrication (always use CRC sparingly). Was designed to spray solder flux paste off electronic circuit boards, but cleans gears really aggressively.

If youve never tried any of these products, you will thank me for the results (using sparingly). You can always hit it with a 2nd application, but you will have trouble if gears lock up. You are very welcome for this little piece of wisdom that I never stumbled upon myself.

I use this grease primarily in sewing machines, both lube points, and gear mesh surfaces. It works great, sticks well, and is clear. It keeps its texture, so it won’t solidify and make “mud” in your machinery! Another selling point.

it has no odor. This is just a great overall grease, and it lives in my sewing machine tool kit, as well as my bicycle tool kit. Right next to my multiple bottles of TriFlow lubricating oil.

The clear, waterproof formula with Teflon (PTFE) added is perfect for bicycle applications. I use this product to pack bearings and grease threaded fasteners on the bikes I work on. Has excellent durability and lubricity.

TriFlow aerosol spray lube is another excellent product for bicycle applications. I use it for my chains, derailleur pivots and cabling. Effective and long lasting. TriFlow is the pinnacle for bicycle lubrication.

Finally had a chance to use the Park Tool HPG-1 grease and was very impressed with it. I?ve used other grease before but I can tell this grease was different from the others. This is a great addition if you are doing some bike maintanance yourself.

Ended up buying a Rock & Roll grease that fit my injector. I’m sure this Park tool grease is great, but that injector that injector is greater.

This stuff is great! It’s so sticky I can’t see it ever coming off of something it’s on. It’s hard to get it off your fingers. I had to use acetone to get it off and that really didn’t do it. I finally had to use carb cleaner to get it off my hands.

All that means is it stays on whatever it’s on. I keep it on my work bench in my shop and it’s hot out there. I looked at the thermometer yesterday and it show it to be a hundred degrees. I looked at the stuff in the tub and it didn’t look like it had thinned out at all.

Maybe a tiny bit. My point is this prelube will hold up under all kinds of extremes, so use it with confidence.

Doing the front & rear suspension, brakes & steering on my 65 Fairlane. Using polyurethane wherever possible. Nothing squeaks when I cycle the suspension. This stuff is a VERY sticky lubricant. I don’t see it coming off anywhere.

I slabbered it on every polyurethane bushing I could on ever surface of it. It’s nice to have so much you don’t have to be stingy with it during installation. I also coated the few rubber bushings I have left (shock absorbers) so to help protect them from rot.

Get rubber gloves this stuff is hard to clean off. Apply with an acid brush and clean up with lots of dish soap. Dish soap and degreaser are about all that will cut it. Another huge plus is not messing with tiny little packages like is included with parts.

It’s not cheap but it’s worth every penny. No one wants squeaks and no one wants little fiddly tubes with not enough lube.

Formula five urethane bushing lube is the best that you can find. It’s sticky compound and attributes ensures that it won’t wash off and will last for years to come. I have not found anything better for urethane bushings.

This is the only product I recommend and will use for my suspension upgrades. It comes in a 1/2 lb tub and is plenty for your suspension needs. You will need plenty of latex gloves as this compound is difficult to wash off of your bare hands.

That’s the point, you don’t want it to come off. You will not be disappointed.

Maybe it’s been reformulated. I purchased a cartridge of this part number Valvoline grease about six years ago and it had been sitting in my grease gun. When I picked up the gun today I was suprised when about a couple of teaspoons of oil ran out of the gun.

The hottest the garage has ever gotten is 80 degrees. I have a tub of old fashioned pennzoil petroleum grease that’s over 40 years old and stored in the same place. It’s never shown a sign of separating like that.

Normal for synthetic grease? Even though the car has been mostly sitting for the same amount of time it makes me think I need to recheck my front wheel bearings.

Used this to grease the ball joints in a 2002 F-150 and a 2010 Fusion after rebuilding the front end of both vehicles. Stayed in place and much easier to deal with than red grease I had used previously.

Confident that this will serve my needs well.

It is difficult to find quality grease with that is both synthetic and contains moly. Valvoline offers both of these, and if you want to save a little money, they also offer a semi-synthetic version.

This was recommended for crosstrainers but I have to say its no good at all for them – the roller wheels just rub it straight off when rolling over it – ended up with the grease sitting on outside edges of the base that the wheels run along, with a stripe along the middle where the grease was removed by the runner wheels.

so it was pointless. Even when I applied it to the wheels, it didn’t make any difference. Plus, it is white so looks awful smeared onto black exercise equipment.

So. why rate something like White Lithium Grease, you might ask? Well, few do, so why not! Ok. truth be known, this is something that is hard to screw up, but by not having a tube of this handy when doing auto upkeep/repairs is! We’ve all had that bolt that we have fought to remove and have said “oh if this only had some grease on it!”.

Well, here is a simple way to remedy that when doing your own repairs. It is inexpensive and a good thing to have in your tool box. If you ever wonder if putting grease on a bolt is a wise move or not, you are correct in thinking that.

Not every application warrants it. Just do a internet search and you will likely find someone who has an opinion one way or anther, and that can help guide you. Buy some. you will be happy to have it around, and your professional mechanic friends will think there may be hope for you yet!.

This makes good intermediate steering shaft grease. Runny enough to work around seal. Not too runny to melt down on the outside. Takes a day or so to work in, but gets that annoying squeaking out of the steering.

Also good for lawnmower cables. Good for the hood latch too.

I’ve used this grease to lubricate wheel bearings and zerk fitting on the front suspension of a 69 Camaro. High quality synthetic grease that does the job of keeping things well lubed.
