20 Best Fuzz Pedals For Bass (2023 Updated)

I bought this to replace a Green Rhino Mk II that I was using for my overdrive for bass. I liked the versatility of the Pork & Pickle drive/fuzz combo and the clean tone blend, plus the smaller size is a bonus.

I’ve played with it for a few hours now – no gigs yet, thanks to the virus – and it really does the trick. For low gain tones the Pork sounds similar to my Rhino, but with a less muddy low end – clearer, punchier, better.

The Pickle sounds great, too. The only downside is that in stock configuration, just flipping the switch from OD to Fuzz doesn’t really get me a good fuzz sound; I have to fiddle with the knobs to get a good fuzz on.

I hope this can be solved using the internal trimmers, but I haven’t had a chance to get inside yet.

Overall: I tried out this pedal the other day At a local music shop. Let me tell you what, this thing gets down and dirty. I love the way my riffs were sounding. Perfect for some Stoner Doom Metal. I would recommend this pedal for anyone’s arsenal.

Sounds great and is really small, so handy for folks with busier pedal boards. Also overdrive and fuzz in one unit. Nice features too with the ability to blend in clean tone over the overdrive – so you dont loose too much clarity and bottom end.

Perfect for bassists like me!.

I use this Fuzz both as a fuzz and a distorted boost. It’s better than a lot of other fuzz pedals, because you don’t lose the bottom end. It’s very transparent. It has great tone shaping options. My only complaint is the hum.

Even powering it with a Voodoo Lab power supply doesn’t eliminate the hum. It’s not a big deal unless you have quiet parts to the song.

The MXR Bass Fuzz may sound fine when you’re rehearsing on your own without a band behind you. However, as soon as the rest of the band kicks in, prepare for your bass to disappear. The fuzz lacks any midrange.

Even worse than an EHX BMP. This requires you to crank the clean back in just to hear your bass again. Then you really can’t hear the fuzz. You can’t even really boost yourself much above unity gain either.

With such a drastic mid scoop, you need a lot more volume than it has. I would recommend looking for another bass fuzz if you are using it in a band. If you don’t mind the extreme scoop for playing alone at home, it might be fine.

I was looking for a fuzz that would not get buried in the mix and retain some low-end. I used one of of the great coupons offered by Musiciansfriend and got a great deal on it. The Bass Fuzz Deluxe is exactly what I was looking for.

Whether I use it with my flatwound strung vintage P-Bass or my Yamaha TRB1005 it sounds fuzzy, heavy yet not messy or overloaded with low-mids. This effect is more versatile than you may think due to the fuzz/clean blend.

Good thing it is a true bypass as it would have been a deal-breaker for me. I never buy an effect without a true bypass as it will suck up your tone even when it is off. I mostly play Alt Rock, Funk and Reggae and find some applications for this effect in all those styles.

I actually like its sound better than the demos I saw on Youtube. In addition the pedal is small and looks cool. It’s a keeper!.

I could decide which fuzz to get. I was considering the big muff opamp and other various fuzzes. Then I came across this one that offers a bunch of different fuzz circuits in one unit. It was pretty much a no brainer since it also happens to be a JHS.

I really trust that brand because Josh just seems like he really knows what he’s doing. I could be wrong but based on this pedal I’m probably right. It’s all I was looking for in a fuzz pedal and will probably not be shopping for anymore fuzz pedal.

It’s a really a great value for all the different tones you can get. All usable sounds.

Fantastic fuzz pedal! It quite literally has each of the wiring variants for the Bug Muff. I love it. JHS makes killer guitar pedals – really high quality – and Josh Smiths YT channel is extremely entertaining.

If you search YT, youll find a video where Josh goes thru the entire history of the Big Muff. There is also a video demonstrating this pedal. Great stuff; check it out.

Has several different settings for all the muff sounds of history and JHSs take on it too. Its just ok. All the fuzzes work and are slightly different. It just doesnt justify the high price in my opinion.

Had more fun buying cheap Chinese pedal between 20 and 40 bucks than with this. Sorry Josh.

It’s been a year and it’s still on my pedal board! I’ve talked to some people who had a hard time getting a good sound out of it, and they didn’t understand how clipping your preamp works. This pedal clips your preamp on purpose when the bias is turned up, blending the fuzz with the natural overdrive of your amp (and also sounds amazing with high headroom clean settings).

Anyway, figure out where the sweet spot for gain & volume are on your amp and this will be your favorite fuzz pedal. I have a real easy time dialing it in on fender, mesa, and clean transistor amps. Turn the treble down if you’re using a British amp.

I know what your thinking. can one knob really make this pedal useful? YES. you only need one knob. This pedal was one of the biggest tone surprises of my long history with guitar gear. It plain flat out kills.

Plus it has a ton of different tones depending on where you set the knob. Yes, the output level is set, but if you set your amp correctly it will not be an issue. Give this thing a try, it will really make you rethink your fuzz pedal game.

This pedal is all that fuzz should be. Dual Germanium Diodes and one bias knob is all you need to get super fuzzy goodness out of this bad boy. Theres nothing classic about this monster of a fuzz as it is packed with all the yummy gated super spongy fuzz that any one man could want.

If you want a fuzz that’s different and still useable this is the fuzz for you. Jamie Stillman knows how to make a pedal that stands out from the rest and this one takes the cake!! This was a hands on review from Graham at Sam Ash Cleveland.

I was looking for a cheaper reverb pedal to add to my new mini pedalboard, and these JHS 3 Series pedals came up in my search. I watched a ton of videos, and they sounded amazing, so I figured that I’d give the reverb a try.

Plugging it in, I was blown away!! It’s such a sweet sounding digital reverb, with a toggle switch for pre-delay, which was an added bonus. I compared it next to my Catalinbread Talisman, which I love, and it kept right up no problem.

I also tried it next to a TC Electronic Hall Of Fame 2, and that pedal sounded like garbage next to the JHS 3 Series. This whole experience has made me super curious about their other 3 Series selections, after hearing how great they sound.

I am a huge jhs fan, and I’ve owned 4 of their pedals now. First issue I’ve ever had. When I pulled the pedal out of the box it felt cheap. A lot cheaper than the “cheap” price it cost. But since I love jhs so much I gave the benefit of the doubt.

All that came out was a sputtering sound as the volume dropped in and out. The same problem no matter where the knobs and switch were set. But there’s a reason AMS is my go to seller. They immediately started a return for me.

I had high hopes for the 3 series and was let down. But still love jhs and still love AMS!.

First of all, this is not a pedal for players looking only for clean tones. This is a pedal for players who want to punch whoever is within listening range in the face with dirty fuzzy bass. Even on its cleanest setting, you will still get a fair amount of gain boost when the pedal is on.

Start turning knobs, and things get grungier from there. Awesome if you’re looking for a Fu Manchu type tone! I don’t play bass with the group of guys I play with, but I imagine this pedal would help a bass player cut through the mix when playing live.

I currently have it running through a 15″ Fender 200w rumble with an extension cab loaded with a celestion BL 12 200x. My bass is a washburn t24, passive pickups. I have heard that the M85 may not play well with active pickup basses.

Also in my chain is an MXR bass envelope filter and an MXR carbon copy. They all sound killer together! Bottom line is, if you’re a player who is looking for some extra punch, fuzz, and power, give the MXR bass distortion a try!.

Such a great and versatile pedal! I bought the M85 Bass Distortion for various cover tunes my band does. The ability to blend the clean bass signal in with the distorted signal is very nice; keeps the low end low.

The addition of the Silicone/LED switch provides great flexibility with distortion options. Otherwise it is a simple to use rugged pedal that does the job!.

I have every MXR distortion, the Fuzz, the overdrive, a Blue box, a Boss FZ-5 Fuzz, 2 different Big Muffs. needless to say I’ve always been a distortion junkie, despite being a bass player. In addition to all the pedals, I play all tube amps as well, including Marshall models.

Anyways, this pedal is truly beautiful. Yeah, the others have their touch in the mix, but for all around jamming with a nice clean bottom end, while still having that melting face bass distortion , it’s great.

They really made a nice pedal with this one. Sounds nuts with a wah.

The pedal has a lot of great tones in it straight out of the box, and would be a good value right there. But, when you add into the Neuro App, you can teak the stock tones to your liking to tailor fit your desires past the knobs on the pedal.

Or! you can change out the stock tones for a 30-40 different tones, from a Russian Big Muff, Darkglass, TS, and synth bass tones, to name a few. Then you can tailor fit THOSE to your liking with the app and knobs.

Its a great value.

With this pedal you get more than 50 various drive engines, that are hidden inside. You can use 2 drives at once – in parallel or cascaded one into another. With the mobile app you have so much controls it can get even confusing.

Don’t want dig too dip – use mobile app just to assign 3 favourite drives on 3 mini-switch positions, that’s it. Awesome pedal, much more interesting than my previous MXR Bass Distortion.

I got this pedal to add a distortion unit with midi functionality to my board and this doesn’t disappoint. Drive + Parametric EQ and with tons of different distortion types. Yes please. It can be routed numerous ways (my favorite being Mono effect plus dry through) and having this, or any source audio pedal to the board elevates your sound!!.

This is what I was looking for in a bass pedal. With most distortion pedals you lose a lot of low end. This pedal spilt the signal in a low and a high signal. You can control the level of each signal and the amount of compression on the low and distortion on the high.

You can even control the amount of high and low effected. As if this still isn’t enough, after you controlled your main sound you have an Equalizer and a master volume.

I’ve had this pedal for a few weeks now, and I absolutely love the Compression and the EQ, but the distortion. Eh. just not really my cup of tea. my problem with it, is the fact that it is SOOOO bright ! I mean the pedal splits your signal and compresses the lows and distorts the highs as its supposed to do, but engaging the distortion automatically gives you a high gain boost ! I play a fretless bass with flatwounds because I hate the sound of fingers sliding across the strings, but as soon as you engage the distortion, that’s exactly what you hear ! (even with flats on a fretless) you can EQ it out somewhat, but when you do you lose your distortion.

I’ve played and tweaked with it so much, but I just cant seem to get a decent distortion tone. some ppl may like the super bright brash distorted tone, its just not for me. With that being said, I absolutely LOVE the tone the EQ and Compression lend, and that alone is worth every penny I spent on this pedal ! Its so silky smooth and it makes this pedal a must have ! I also really like the fact this pedal has a headphone output.

You can use this pedal with headphones for silent practice and with the cab simulation it gives you a nice full organic sound !.

Overall: I personally love all of Darkglasselectronics products. The microtubes X Ultra is now my favorite. The tones you can create are endless from sub bass to blistering distortion and everything in between sound amaizing.

The Darkglass suite works flawlessly with there products. The cab sims sounds real and impressive. The addition of auxiliary in and headphone out is brilliant for silent jamming on the road or in the bedroom.

The direct out is top notch and silent, the compressor works great for both the drive section and clean section(turned on in the Darkglass suite) when compression is ingauged in the suite the lights go from red to blue by holding down the bypass switch for a few seconds.

The eq is clean and works verry well. Buy one you will be happy you did ,cheers!.

Minus one star because it’s frankly overpriced. Otherwise this pedal is excellent and the best use of 4 knobs in any current envelope filter. You can get a little more out of some of the filters with 6 or 8 controls.

But for effective simplicity this pedal is fantastic. You can get a modest variety of albeit similar sounds, but nearly every setting is usable. This alone is more rare than it should be in pedals. The twin filter is incredibly well tuned.

And generally easy and pleasurable to use. The only issue I have is with its price. I design audio electronics professionally and can guess at the cost to produce. And the main circuit they sadly chose to pot.

Someone looking to “steal” this non-patentable design could still do so but it makes modification and repair near impossible. They should ditch the potting and set a lower price because they should be selling more of these very good pedals.

This is an excellent and very versatile envelope filter. It’s the jewel in my collection and, though there are easier pedals to use in the Aguilar line (Grape Phaser for example!), the Filter Twin becomes intuitive very quickly.

I’m a fan of the two sweeping filters and enjoy the different sounds each provides. Having a blend is also an excellent feature. It isn’t the cheapest envelope filter on the market, but it is all quality components from Aguilar – and this will provide much fun for years to come.

It’s a good colour, clear and concise to read in dim lights and is very responsive across each of the dials.

It is very versatile with a lot of options, but unlike some other flexible pedals all of the settings on the Filter twin seem very usable and sound great. You don’t have to worry as much about accidentally moving a knob a tiny bit and destroying your sound.

The combination or separation of the up and down envelope gives you the best of both worlds and in combo with distortion/fuzz and/or octave it is fantastic for fast tracking synth sounds. Very sturdy construction and easy to replace battery.

The blue LED is really easy to see on a dark stage.

very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren’t the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus.

the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can’t really go wrong with the big muff pi.

my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.

Awesome sounding fuzz. I tried this in-store next to a couple other pedals and it adds fuzz without losing the low end of your bass tone. The wet/dry blend knobs are great too. The only downside is that the “on” LED is blinding (like all MXR pedals) and it focuses all the light pretty much straight up.

I used a nail-file to scratch the lens on the LED to diffuse the light and it’s still brighter than my other pedals, but now it’s at least bearable to look at.

The overall line of MXR bass pedals is awesome. The bass fuzz deluxe is a winner tnaks to its clean signal blending capabilities. The course of the tone knob let you go from vintage fuzz to modern fuzz.

However this is not a high gain fuzz but who needs such a fuzz on bass. Sounds wonderful with an overdrive in front. It’s a definite keeper for the price I would have like a gate knob to accentuate its potential.

I like this pedal although I need to experiment more with the orientation on my board. It does have 3 of the most sought after fuzz sounds and the Octave one comes close to that vintage Zep sound. I think the pedal is great but I have experienced less than desirable effects with it depending on the settings and adjustments but I also need to experiment with orientation on the board so jury is out on that.

But I will say when I keep things at high noon and do little tweaks I get a better sound out of it. I still like the pedal compared to others out there.

Straightforward controls. Knobs are just right in terms of sensitivity. Using it with several of my acoustic guitars for fuzzed up blues playing. After playing some Delta blues some dude named Legbah showed up at the back door and asked me to sign a recording deal.

he said it would be good for my soul. He seems sketchy but the sound using the pedal is great! I think I will pass on the contract and keep practicing. Thanks Boss!!!.

I’ve owned several germanium fuzz pedals (Analogman white-dot NKT275 among others) and this comparatively cheap pedal from Boss can do everything those germanium fuzzes can do and a little bit more. I eventually sold all my germanium effects (I also had a BSM Majestic Treble Booster) because they can be so inconsistent.

You like the way they sound one day and then a week later you can’t get them to sound right and it gets annoying. The advanced technology in this Boss pedal solves that problem. With companies like Strymon introducing amazing modulation pedals over the last few years, I expect there to be more high-quality digital distortion pedals coming out throughout the next decade or so.

The technology has finally gotten to the point where they can put a sufficiently powerful processor in a pedal and tweak the algorithms as needed. The Boss OD-1X and DS-1X are other examples of this.

This particular pedal, the FZ-5, did take me some time to adjust to the rest of my pedal board. I have it before the buffer close to the beginning of the pedal chain. I’ve also found it’s basically necessary to keep the “Level” knob (on the left) relatively low, at about 9:00, and adjust your other pedals for overall volume.

This keeps background noise to a minimum. I’m so glad I got this pedal.

I recently purchased a Darkglass microtubes X7 from American musical supply. I can’t say enough good things about this pedal and the service provided by American musical supply. I’ve been a bassist for over 36 years and believe me when I say “Darkglass really hit it out the park with this one.

” Everything from thick compressed vintage sounds to razor sharp defined distortion and everything in between. I use this with my American made musicman stingray 5 drawing with right round wound for the most incredible metal tones and with my American made Fender precision 5-string strung with flatwounds for the most incredible vintage tones.

Not a pedal for the weak. After only 8 minutes of playing this I had a full beard and was wearing a flannel shirt I didn’t even own! Not that wussy lumber-sexual beard either. I immediately stopped playing, grabbed a chainsaw and cut down the tree in my backyard.

The noise from the saw is not even close to the ferocity of the Big Muff. A pedal for men who pay heavy guitars. Les Paul type stuff. None of this wimpy triple single coil garbage. The Big Muff will destroy your lighter-than-air Stratos! I added 22 pounds of weights to my guitar to feel worthy! Yep, I like it.

You can even tone it down a bit for a bluesy-classic rock sound. Just don’t wear that stupid Stevie Ray Vaughn pirate hat.

Basically, I bought this pedal because I was beginning to build on my pedal inventory. I already had Wah and a compressor and next in line (literally) was a fuzz-tone. I read reviews about this one and it seemed to be what I was looking for.

The reviews also said that some people didn’t like it, that it wasn’t for everyone. I guess because it’s a bit grungy, but I wanted to play “Glycerine” by Bush, and this pedal fit the bill to a T. It’s also variable with the controls, so it doesn’t have to be really scraggly sounding.

The one I received from ebay “brand new in the box”, came with a battery installed, but when the battery died on me (very quickly), I went to open up the bottom and found that 3 out of the 4 screws were stripped beyond repair.

I had to drill them out and buy new screws. Obviously I wasn’t the first one to change batteries on THIS pedal. So much for Brand New! All-in-all, the pedal is going to work out very nicely. I like the look.

It takes up less real estate than the full-sized Big Muff, but more than the Nano Big Muff. That was the decider for me, to compromise on the size.

Classic creamy fuzz awesomeness in more compact housing. Same circuit as big brother, but the 9V plug, sturdier construction, and minimal pedalboard footprint makes this version the clear winner. Can’t go wrong here.

First the good stuff: the fuzz side (all but the right-most 2 knobs) is well documented and you can blend how much you want. You can go from almost nothing to full-blown fuzz-bass. The cross-over is not well documented, and it takes some clowning to figure out how to use it.

Very fun pedal, offering plenty of options. Now the bad stuff. I bought mine from Musicians-Friend in late July. I messed around with it a little, got it on my pedal board, but with the pandemic, there were no practices nor gigs, so it basically sat unused for the rest of the Summer.

I finally got a chance to use it at a pickup jam last week, and I discovered it was fried. By fried, I mean constant-noise sounding like the ocean, signal barely making it thru in bits and starts, mostly nothing making it through.

Even the bypass made noise. Yes, I verified all cables and isolated the unit. So, outside of the 45 day return window, I have some expensive studio art. Since I can’t return it, I will take it apart to see if I can figure out what burned out.

It never moved from my home practice space, was zip-tied to a board and plugged in through a surge-protect power strip. To say this pedal is fragile is an understatement. It was very cool while it lasted, but for the price.

a couple of months of fun at best (for me anyway), is not worth it. Your mileage may vary.

I got this pedal to be able to blend in some warmth and gain to my solid state bass tone, and the added crossover effect was just a bonus. All of the options are great and the pedal sounds great too, but after a few months of using it for practice and shows it stopped making sound when the effects were off.

The signal wouldn’t bypass the pedal. I emailed Electro-Harmonix and they said I had to send it in and I had to pay for shipping. A few weeks later I got it back with no emails telling me what was wrong with it, what caused the problem, or even when it was getting shipped back.

The pedal now works for the most part, but the sound has cut out a few times since. This was my first electro-harmonix product and I was not pleased in the build quality or customer service. I am going to get pro coverage next time so I won’t have this problem.

They just don’t make products to last anymore.

I used the original Bass BigMuff Pi as my main fuzz box for a while and while it created usable tones, I just couldn’t seem to get anything to sound just how I was imagining my sound. Well, after purchasing this I am getting all the tones I need, and much more.

The overall tone of this is actually better than the original BigMuff. A much more tweakable, better sounding fuzz overall. Even just that is worth the extra money. But on top of this, it has a noise gate and a crossover with high and low pass filters which is a truly astounding feature.

Originally I didn’t picture myself using the crossover as much but you can get some CRAZY good tones with it. One example would be Cliff Burton’s “for whom the bell tolls” intro tone. All in all, this pedal is most definitely worth the extra cash over the original BassMuff.

Take it from someone who has used both in a band setting. The original bassmuff works, but if you are looking for tones that will cut through the mix, retain low end, and leave people asking what pedal you’re using, I highly recommend this!.

I tried this out after hearing the ProGuitarShop review and the electric wizard bit sounded killer. That sound does seem to be a one trick pony though, sounds strange as soon as you try anything leady.

And because of the very distinct texture of this pedal, switching to other sounds is very abrupt. Also hard to blend with other gain pedals for that reason. More objectively, I wasn’t crazy about the switching, I recall there not really being a click to the switch.

The biggest problem though was the placement of the jacks and AC input, with my cables I couldn’t get everything to fit right, it was all too close. I’m surprised the designers didn’t leave some leeway.

End of the day, I decided this one’s not for me.

I first heard this pedal on that youtube pedal show with the two guys, and was floored. I run it into a clean-to-slightly dirty Marshall 1987. I’ve pretty much got every sound that I heard on their video, and it works well with my Tele and Les Paul.

With as much fuzz as you get with this circuit, it still retains some good note definition and separation. The octave flavor you get from this is awesome, and yet not intrusive in my opinion. The eq is effective, and even diming the treble knob, it doesn’t get harsh through my setup.

The soft switch works perfectly, and it’s a pretty quiet pedal. It has a super fuzz feel to it, but doesn’t cave in on itself when you play more than 2 strings. Hats off to Danelectro for this one, it’s loads of fun to play and really inspiring.

It just puts a smile on my face.

Really a great octave fuzz. Based on the Univox Super-Fuzz. Very splatty/spitty. The tone controls are great, the only thing missing is a way to remove or adjust the level of the octave effect.

Great sounding, great looking pedal thats surprisingly versatile. Of course I got it because I love the Siamese dream tone, and thats what I was mostly doing with it for the first few days, but it nails so much more than that.

Anything 90s sounds great- if you are familiar with Stars by Hum, it nails it and the rest of their songs. Its a tad bit quiet if that makes sense, so if you plan on switching this pedal on and off, just play around with the volume knob before hand so your cleans arent louder than your dirty sound.

It compresses a lot (in a good way) so I found that by just rolling back my guitar volume a little bit, you can make sure that when you kick on the pedal it roars- theres not much difference in loudness if your guitars volume knob is at 4 or if it is at 10.

Overall great pedal, dont let one YouTube video fool you!.

This pedal is used on so many famous guitar rigs in every genre. Crank up the fuzz while rolling down the guitar’s volume will give you crystal cleans like nothing else; put that through a tube amp with some reverb and delay then you get godlike clean tone.

David Gilmour’s tone and sustain; Big Muff. This unit is super versatile on it’s own and limitless when combined with other pedals and effects. This is a must have tool in the bag if you’re into tone sculpting perfection.

Get one, and study it. You may not like fuzz on it’s own, but I promise you will find an incredible use that will blow your mind that doesn’t even sound like fuzz.

I’ve had a troubled history with fuzz pedals but I really like this one. I bought a cheap mini pedal a few years ago but it clamps down into full compression in a very unmusical way when I play my main guitars through it.

I tried the Big Muff on a bit on a whim and was really impressed by its dynamic responsiveness to guitar volume settings and picking attack. The controls have a fairly wide sweep making it quite a versatile little pedal.

I’m docking one star because I feel that it could have a bit more volume. This may well be a non-issue for other users because it could be due to my signal chain and I have to confess a weird (i. e. ridiculous) fixation with having loads of (unused) volume on tap *just in case*.

It’s silly, don’t be like that. The Nano Big Muff is a fine pedal, it delivers what you’d expect from a fuzz box, it does ‘that sound’ really well and is versatile enough to approximate guitar sounds from different genres and decades (Cramps, Sabbath, L7 – all there).

The sound initially blew me away, and i am extremely satisfied with the purchase. At this price point you aren’t going to find a better fuzz. I use this pedal for home use only, so i can’t comment on how it sounds blasted and live.

The build quality appears and feels clean and solid, but i can’t comment on durability yet because i’ve only had this pedal for a month. The good things about it are: it’s loud, small, and has a lot of range to make different sounds with.

The downsides are that it doesn’t have a blend knob, and getting just the right tone is difficult. That being said, there is plenty of room to adjust everything on either side once the tone is found, so you will be able to get what you need eventually.

I agree with a previous review, it is nice to have an eq before the pedal to get everything just right.

I’ve been playing with a Russian Big M*ff for about 20 years and it finally gave out on me. Not the pedal itself, but the LED indicator which tells me if it’s on or not so I figured it was time for an upgrade.

Man, am I glad I did. Big M*ff pedals are the best distortion/fuzz pedals out there for bass as far as I’m concerned, but I am so blown away by how this pedal handles my 5-string. On my old M*ff, the low B string sounded muddy.

It just couldn’t handle anything lower than the E string. On this one, you can even get some punch and clarity on that low B. Not only that, it works great as a pedal for guitar. ESPECIALLY if, like me, you play a lot of stuff in C-Standard.

You can get some nice fuzzy Fu Manch-type tones. If you switch on the Bass Boost and crank the Tone and Sustain nobs to 11, you can even get that bass-heavy crunch Kyuss was renowned for. If you want a distortion pedal than can handle your five string, if you want a great distortion or fuzz pedal, this little green hulk can handle all of that and then some.

I used to have one of those early 90s army green sovtek muffs that I absolutely loved. Hands down it was my favorite pedal. Unfortunately it was stolen. I bought this pedal to replace it since everyone seems to say that it is the closest thing going.

I think this pedal sounds really good but it just is not quite as smooth and creamy as those old russian muffs. I like the little bass boost switch and both tones are very useable but if you really want that super fluffy, marshmallowy, siamese dream-esque distortion you might just have to go find an old one.

I have also found that it sounds completely different depending on what amp you have it plugged into. Not just a little different but almost like it is not even the same pedal. This is to be expected of course but I was really suprised at just how much the tone varied.

Into my fender twin it really does not sound that good and I like my mini fuzz face 10x more. Into the effects loop of my orange rockerverb 100 it really comes alive and has a great tone. It also sounds pretty good in the loop of my mesa express5/50 combo but if you are planning to pair this up with a fender you might be sorely disappointed.

Sound: The sound quality of this pedal is very high. Very good for recording and live performance. Features: Very sturdy housing that can take a beating. Good quality knobs. Ease of Use: The pedal is very easy to use and get a great sound out of.

Quality: I have never had any problems with this pedal and it gets used a lot. Value: For the price you pay you get a lot of pedal. Lots of Big Muff tone shaping. Manufacturer Support: I have never had to get manufacturer support.

The Wow Factor: Very aggressive yet clear sound. Overall: Been using this pedal for a couple of years now. Would not trade it for any other fuzz pedal. I love the heavy earthy, dirty sound that I can get from it.

It retains a great presence in the mix. Highly recommended.
