20 Best Floor For Chicken Run (2023 Updated)

This is a great product and does exactly what it says, and enabled us to go on holiday for the first time in 3 years. Our only frustration was a repeated ‘door error’ with our Green Frog/Nestera hutch, installed exactly as instructed.

However, after a call to ChickenGaurd it transpires that the auto calibration is only designed for straight up and down doors not the guillotine type on our hutch. Once we manually calibrated the door it worked perfectly.

This is the third Chicken Guard I have bought and all have been reliable. All have timer or manual opening and the Premium has light level triggered closing and opening. I wasn’t sure if I could trust the door to open and close at the right times and was worried that my girls would be locked out, but it is perfectly timed and adjustable to different light levels.

These Chicken Guards are a life saver and great for when I get caught up with another task and forget to put the girls away on time. I also know that they can be up and about in the unlikely event that I sleep in.

Great product.

The ammonia odor in my chicken run after a cold wet winter and layers of straw were removed was overwhelming. Sprinkled this product directly on the ground, and it completely eliminated the odor. Plus, the chickens enjoyed scratching around in it which helped work it in.

Couldn’t have been easier! Two thumbs up!.

Overall I regret the purchase. Despite the high cost I found the finish disappointing with every pre-drilled hole not clear through and the same with the slots for the clips (and two short of those. ) so I spent a consierable time clearing before assembly.

The written instructions caused further delay by trying to cover all three sizes and the differing parts. No provision to padlock, Despite all the ‘hype’ on ventilation the plastic does get hot even in under shade ansd retains the heat like a storage heater! My hens cosntatnly clear the bedding away in the nest box to expose the plastic and several eggs cracked or broken until a layer of cardboard placed! Frankly I really wish I’d gone for another wooden coop at less than half the price.

Not happy either that AFTER paying full price I get a discount voucher on my next purchase! No notification on intended delivery date/time so came home to blocked door! Overall quite a disappointment and seriously regret my purchase.

Delivery. My large raised coop was delivered after 2 days with all parts delivered and clear instructions. Building. We watched the video first (worth doing). It took two of us 90 minutes to build but we did it leisurely laying out all parts and checking them first.

It did not really need two people but I did the building and my wife read the instructions and acted as prop for leaning items. One person could do it in 60 minutes I reckon. Alll clips and catches worked well and we found them easy to use and all holes were in the right place.

Watching the video and studying the instructions first made it straighforward. We bought the Chicken Guard as it is very easy to fix up. Quality. The build quality we found excellent. Everything slots together well and once build is very sturdy.

The clips and fixtures work really well. Ease of access for cleaning. It is easy to access for cleaning. The daily clean involves pulling out the three trays, **** scooping of bedding, a quick refill.

It takes me 5 minutes. I would certainly not want to be without the cleaning trays. They are deep enough for a good layer of bedding (I use hemp). Ease of use for the hens. The first time the hens came down the the ladder they were a bit uncertain and sort of skidded down but were used to it by day two.

On the first night we caught them and put them in the coop. On the second night, they put themselves to bed. I was a bit concerned about the ladder but it’s no issue: they’ve worked it out quickly and on day knew it was their safe place to return to.

Two of them are still sort of halk walking half fluttering up and down but they seem fine. Raised coop design. We have one drinker and one feeder under the coop. They fit well underneath, are easy to access, stay dry, and the hens like using them there.

Use of nesting boxes. Their first egg was laid in the nesting box. Condensation. Just been through hottest night of the year and no condensation, albeit only 4 hens in the coop. Coop is in dappled shade and on a day when the temperative hit 29 degrees celsius the temperature fine inside.

Overall very happy with all aspects of the coop, I’d recommend it and would get another. For me, no downsides.

my update for 4 stars instead of 3. Not so convinced right after set-up. Update after 3 weeks of use: I’m convinced. +Seems a wobbly construction at first, but once assembled, it’s sturdy. +It’s spacious compared to the Eglu.

+It will last for years, I’m sure. I have my doubts about temperature in summertime if the coop is not in the shadow. Update: try to get it in the shadow – Set up is not as easy as they say, especially if you’re a non-native speaker.

– The perches could have used an extra round of sanding. – There are too many aeration points where 2 assembled parts meet. Update: it’s very important to put it on a leveled field, or even better: a leveled frame to rest on.

– Biggest disadvantage for me: if your chickens don’t use the nests to lay eggs or if you need to catch a chicken (evening or night time) for a treatment, you can not just quickly take off the roof.

Young chickens took a while to start using. During first week it rained heavy. Water somehow got into to base of feeder and hence pellets went to mush and blocked feeder. Need a funnel to fill quickly otherwise even by cup some drop outside.

I think both these problems common to all similar feeders though. Chickens do use watering feeder but prefer my open tubs. I guess they will get used to. Both solid and generally weatherproof. I previously had one of those green white hanging feeders that are common but the plastic became very brittle.

These appear UV stabilised 100mm hdpvc so very tough and UV resistant.

The double waterer works well but gets dirty and needs a flush out every week or so. However the feeder with four small dividing channel tends to clog up with the leftoever powdery feed after just one refill so needs clearing couple times a week compared to dineachook type.

Quality is fantastic and my chickens have taken to the feeder within 2 to 3 days. Much less wastage which is great with picky chickens. The chickens still have not worked out the water tube though and I think the buoyancy weight needs too much pressure to release more water unfortunately.

So my chickens may not end up using the water tube which is a pain for me.

I like the simple design. It stops vermin from entering. A bit pricey. I’m having a bit of trouble re-training my old chooks. No reflection on the product though. Overall, I like the product.

This product is well made and comes with very easy to read instructions plus extra parts for assembly depending on how you want to use it. I am so pleased with this setup. Perfect for smaller chicken pens as they are attached to the fencing.

Even in wet weather the food remained dry and water stays fresh. I would recommend purchasing extra water valves. Great, great ,great!!.

This is a very good product and our Silkie Bantam Chickens love it. We just had a little bit of trouble getting it to connect to the wire so we ended up just hanging it off some bamboo sticks it works fine the only problem is that whenever we move our drinker or feeder the bamboo falls off so I would recommend making sure you either have a big enough holes in the wire or a solid wall in your coop to attach this to.

Overall this is an extremely good product and I would recommend buying it.

Love this feeder so much that I have now bought two! It is easy to open, easy to clean and holds a full bag of feed. I have used these to feed, chickens, ducks, turkeys and rabbits and it works great for all of them.

The first one that I purchased has seen daily outdoor use for almost two years now and is still going strong. When we expanded our flock, I knew that this was the only feeder that I wanted so I purchased the second one.

This time I couldn’t find the feeder in my local store so I ordered online and had it sent to the store. It arrived in good condition and was packed well. I’ve tried several different types of feeders over the years but this one is by far the BEST! I love how sturdy it’s made and how well it’s held up over time.

Being able to hold 40/50 lbs of feed is a huge plus for me too! Now this is the only feeder I’ll buy!.

I bought this chicken feeder along with the OverEZ Waterer. This is my second round with chickens. If anything taught me that I’ll always have chickens, it was COVID. I had difficulty finding eggs for a couple of weeks and the ones that I got were small and pasty yellow yolks.

I found this feeder when looking for a solution for dirty water and was impressed with the thought behind it. It is amazing how much this has helped in keeping my coop and flock organized. The chicks do still throw out some feed, but it isn’t all the feed being flung out of the feeder.

The chicks like the foraging aspect of feed, so it does keep them entertained. I put the feeder in a (no longer used) Little Tykes playhouse which keeps all the feed that is spilled, contained within the play house as well as providing excellent shading for the feeder.

The chicks were 5 weeks old when I introduced them to their outside space and the girls mastered both the OverEZ Chicken Feeder and Waterer quickly. The chicks will be free ranging in a few more weeks which will reduce the feed they are consuming.

This feeder should keep the wild birds from eating as much of the feed has they did with my last round of chickens. Once I have my app accessible, automatic door opener installed on the coop; I can actually consider taking a trip without worrying about having someone take care of them morning and night.

These are AWESOME, especially if you have a lot of chickens, ducks and geese or are away often on for a few days. This is my second one for my second pen. I rarely go anywhere overnight but I know with these, I wouldn’t have to worry if I did.

No need to depend on someone else to get the feed right. They will hold a full bag of food, which holds my crew over for right at a week. I still go check on them every day but with this feeder (and matching wateres) I know if for some reason I didn’t/couldn’t they would be fine.

To be fair, to others commenting that the chickens can scratch the food out. I haven’t found a feeder YET that doesn’t allow that, but with this one there is much less mess than most I have tried. Some of it is mommies getting feed out for the little ones I think.

One thing I WOULD like is if maybe the middle one was up higher and the sides lower or even 3 different heights, because lets face it, who has chickens that are ALL the same age and height? Not me. As it is I put it on a block and put stepping stones on side at 2 different heights for the littles.

We recently bought a new home and needed to find a new coop for our chickens fast. After some shopping around, I bought the small OverEZ coop based on its sturdy-looking design and ease of assembly. Unfortunately it wasn’t worth the price tag, as there seem to be several quality control issues with it.

First, many of the pre-driven screws were bent and wouldn’t drive correctly, requiring me to replace them with my own. Also the “catch” for the nest box lock is so loose it won’t stay connected to the handle, making the locking mechanism completely useless.

I ended up screwing down the door so that predators can’t easily enter through there before I can find some other locking solution. In addition, the lock on the “man door” isn’t positioned correctly, so the door isn’t held flush when the door is locked–there is about 1/2″ of play.

It’s not enough to let a raccoon in, but still not ideal at all. The window also leaks (bad dealing), and the screen (which should be hardware cloth to be honest) came out within a week of putting the coop together.

There are other design flaws as well. I personally find the coop too small even for my three chickens, though I suppose if the chickens only sleep in it it is big enough. Otherwise, though, it’s too cramped to provide food and water while keeping them inside.

The “man door” is also very narrow, and cleaning out the coop is a real chore as a result. A full size door would be much more convenient for changing bedding. The roosting bars are only 2×2″, which is too narrow for chickens to comfortably stand with feet flat as they prefer.

It would be better to have 2×4″ perches with the 4″ side up instead. I went ahead and just screwed the provided 2x2s together to make one perch for my three birds. In the end, I feel that even with higher prices on lumber right now, it’s possible to build a much better coop for the same money or cheaper.

Unless you need a new coop fast and are willing to have to do a lot of fixing to make it work, I would steer clear of this one.

Once it is put together, it is a very good shelter for our flock. However, it was not as easy and simple to put together. Some of the pre-drilled screws/nails were not at the right spot, some of the wooden panels did not match up properly with the dotted lines and instructions.

So, because of this, it took us a much longer time than expected to put the coop together. about 3. 5 hours. My husband and I were quite frustrated and disappointed with things not fitting as it should and having to piece the parts together through trial and error.

There were also 2 screws missing. The nesting boxes also have a large gap because the wood did not line up as detailed in the instructions. We had high hopes for this coop, being that it is amish-built and thought that it would take the headache of building our own from scratch away.

There should have been more precision in the measuring and building of the pieces. Like I said, once it is all put together and standing, it provides a water-proof, safe and comfortable shelter for our flock but putting it together was just a big pain in the neck.

I bought this coop in September of 2021 in the brown and black colored version they sold temporarily. It definitely does not hold 15 chickens. Maybe 6-8 maximum. My 4 gals fit fine but this coop won’t hold 15 unless they are packed in there with no room to move.

The pieces were sturdy and it was fairly easy to assemble, though very heavy. We needed 3 strong people to lift each side. The front piece with the windows was not cut to the correct size and so we had to cut a piece of wood to cover a large gap in one side of the coop.

The roof arrived damaged; bent and scratched. The coop also must’ve been packed while the paint was still wet because removing the packaging caused lots of the paint to peel off, so I was glad it was shipped with extra cans of paint but slightly annoyed I had to repaint so much of a brand new coop.

It’s not easy to clean since there’s no removable pan and it’s too short to get inside to sweep it out, and I’m a pretty small person. If I had to do it over, I’d buy a shed from a box store like tractor supply and just add nesting boxes yourself.

I guess I should of read the description better because I was expecting a metal sign but got one made outta some kind of plastic. After receiving the sign I went back & read the description better & it states that it’s not metal & says what it’s made of.

So that’s my fault for not reading the whole description. I hang the sign outdoors on the outside of my barn & I hope it holds up to the weather & so far so good. It’s a nice little sign & appears to be made well.

I’ve just never had one made of the material that it is made but it might be better than metal. I guess time will tell.

It is flexable like a foam material. Lightweight for safety in case it were to blow off. The meme fits my girls perfectly. I end up with new scratches daily. Great gift idea for a fellow chicken lover.

My hens’ favorite treat ever!!! These Soldier Worms not only contain protein, but also calcium, which mealworms do not have. In addition to that, these worms are excellent for tackling post-consumer waste issues! Look it up – it is truly amazing.

I have purchased several bags of these at my local store and the quality has always been wonderful. Just recently I purchased Culinary Coop’s “Insect Trail Mix” from Walmart. com because I am so happy with their Soldier Worms!.

Perfect gift as it has special meaning to me and my grandson. Glad I found it as a discontinued item. Box looks great will be opened Christmas.

My daughter says this is the best lego set she has of all of the sets. I think that is because it is pretty interactive with how the eggs can be put into and come out of the chicken. She loves putting things in there an watching them fall out.

I didn’t like how there were a few extra pieces. I never know what to do with them. I did like how the bike had wheels that can pivot; I think that is a new innovation and I like it.

Literally only thing I would change is somehow have a spot inside the egg bin that they could attach but that wouldn’t give it the “just laid egg” look so it’s great as is!.
