10 Best Floating Solar Pool Heater (2023 Updated)

We live in Vermont & though we love having a pool, due to the lower night time temperature there is only 1 week in August (or if we get a heatwave) that it gets warm enough to be enjoyable for adults to swim in (the kids don’t care if it’s cold!).

After trying out an insulated solar cover heater last year, & having it cause a massive green algae bloom that took the season of the year to get rid of, we were in the market for a new solution. We really wanted to utilize solar because of the way our pool faces there is lots of energy coming at it from the sun! We were looking at doing a DIY with slate & black tubing to do essentially the same thing as this item, but it was super complicated & we weren’t sure how effective it was going to be.

Then this item pops up! It’s a ready to go version of that a much more affordable price point, & we can easily link more together to get more heating power. We have not had the opportunity to test it out as there is snow on the ground here still, but I unboxed & am pleased with the construction, instructions are straightforward & easy to understand.

I anticipate we will need to swap the tube that goes into the pool filter out or extend it to position it where it will get good sun, but once we get it over there, we have the space to link as many as 10 of them together in full sun to get the heat level we want so I am confident we will get a nice & toasty pool, just depends on how many we need.

I am guessing because we have a 25′ pool we will need at least 2-3 to notice a substantial heat difference as my parents have a similar heater (that they DIY’d) that is about twice the size, & only a 18′ pool & heats to a nice temperature without being too warm.

I was so excited to finally get this pool pad. We just recently got a pool and didn’t get to swim much before the colder air hit. So this pool pad warms up your pool so you can use your pool longer. It uses the sun to heat it up.

The setup was fairly simple, I did get a little help from my hubby. It definitely helped heat up the temperature of the pool some. It says that you can also hook up more pads to heat it more. I’m a true fan of this pool pad.

I knew it was a great deal but I had no idea it would have all the exact parts I will need. It has multiple sizes and several other helpful parts I can use on other projects. Great value.

Works amazing. Simple installation. Low noise. Electric bill came lower than expected.

I was unsure of the model and size I wanted and PSU helped me size it and pick between all of the different choices. I’m glad I chose Pentair because the rest of my stuff is Pentair and I’m happy with them.

This heater works great and the operating costs are low. The overall size is bigger than what I expected, but not bad.

If I looked at one of these pool ionizers, I had to have looked at 1000! That’s just how I am when buying something like this. Chemicals have gotten so expensive this year and August had arrived, which is when my pool is the most difficult to keep clean due to school starting back and the bulk of swimming declining.

It becomes way harder to keep clean when a pool is Only being swam in here and there. I was actually looking at different websites for decent chlorine tablet prices (and availability) When I came across the first copper ionizer I had ever even seen before! From there I came to DiscoverMyStore and began the long process of studying name brands and ratings and all of the questions and answers as I slowly but surely narrowed.

Then to the web for articles and on to YouTube for the same “Top 10/Best of”. It came down to ratings, size of copper, warranty, and customer service. My hopes were that this copper ionizer would aid me in controlling algae during this difficult time of the year to keep my pool clean and limit the amount of chemicals needed So that it would assist me in saving money on chemicals.

It’s been about a 1½ months now and the result. I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER!It’s nearly cliche at this point to say because I read it in so many reviews b⁴ my purchase, but: I only wish I had known about this product sooner! I would have never had to purchase more chemicals before the season was over! My pool is so clear and at most I use about a tablet every 1.

5 weeks. I usually had to put a bottle of algaecide in my pool every 2 weeks or I would start getting some algae growth. I’ve yet to put the first bit of algaecide in my pool since purchasing the CopperFlo Solar Ionizing unit! I vacuumed to my pool very well before dropping it in, but unbelievably I have yet to vacuum it since putting it into my pool.

This unit has exceeded my expectations! I felt comfortable purchasing this one because of the Lifetime Replacement Warranty. It was a little bit more expensive than some of the others, but I was pricing the longer anodes and basket to add to the others I was looking at.

After purchasing that and fitting it, it would have cost just as much without the warranty. Save yourself the headache of looking through all the different ionizers available. Trust me I have done the leg work for you! Please you lies my headache and purchase this one with confidence! You can thank me later.

I’m not someone who is getting paid to write this review. If that’s what you’re thinking, you are absolutely wrong. I purchased this out of desperation. I’m a quadriplegic and vacuum my own pool and it’s just a lot of work in August and September.

I’m just tickled to death with the results and feel the need to spread What I have learned in the past 6 weeks about how much time and effort you can save while still having an amazingly clean pool! I know they say it’s 85% less chlorine but it’s also 85% less effort to have an immaculate pool! I’m sure it will be that much easier next year when my salt system is installed.

Btw: My pool is 18’x36′ (27,000 gallons) In case you were wondering what size pool this product was doing so well for me in.

I was on the fence on this. I wondered if it could possibly work as described. Guess what? IT WORKS WELL! This summer, chlorine tablet cost has increased by almost 2x. Not to mention voodoo algaesides.

As my Boston friends might say : “Wicked Expensive”. Within 2 days, I could tell this was working, and working well. The algae that I would brush off the steps every few days was eliminated. No joke.

In my opinion, the clarity of the pool water is now better than ever. I do still have a pool service, I am not an expert. That being said I went from weekly service, to every other week. Though I did not have to, I paid the regular price.

It is a family owned business, and between the pandemic and the ultra high chlorine pricing, it has been tough. The pool pro DID SAY it is rare to see this product in pool stores, it diminishes the need for other products.

Like I mentioned, it WORKS!Not sure if I did it right, but I registered for the warranty, which offers a discount on replacement parts. The company cares. I know there are several models, and I read reviews, and this model seems pretty luxe to me.

Very happy with my choice, I bet you will be, too. Lastly, a friend who is far more experienced in personal pool care was highly interested in my results with this product. He is like “Mr. Pool Expert” and is picky, far more so than me.

After 2 weeks, he bought 2 for his bigger pool. Then, he sent out a big email about it. How fun is that? Anyway, it is that kind of a product. No need to advertise, because it is unique, not for everyone.

One customer tells another. My chlorine tablet spend went DOWN by about 70% this season. Easily covers the cost of getting this one.

I ordered and it arrived within 5 days in perfect condition. Company was excellent to work with to get the item shipped and delivered on time. Product installed easily and works perfectly. Excellent price for this unit and having the digital control is essential.

Well made and great value. Others tried to upsell me to a unit that would have been overkill. This application is for a 25 x 12 x 5 above ground pool. Heated at the rate of about 2 degrees or maybe 3 per hour.

Maintains the temperature perfectly.

I owned the 105K unit for five years. The heat exchanger failed twice. The copper tube heat exchanger on the original unit was so thin was like paper. Manufacture would not honor warrantee claiming chemicals.

Replacement heat exchanger much thicker copper but a problem with manufacturing the tubes are crushed in assembly in high stress areas of the exchanger. Two years later the second heat exchanger failed.

Not going to spend another $400 plus to replace the heat exchanger instead I went to Hayward for cupronickel unit. The Rheem product is built very basic. It’s corrosion resistance is poor. I covered my heater every year and after five years it looked like it was 50 years old.

I would not recommend the Rheem product although I love their furnaces and air conditioners for the home. Look before you buy don’t be led My price like I was. Spend the money do it right the first time! I feel I threw away $1300 on the Rheem unit.

Overall, this was a great replacement for our above-ground 15×26′ pool. It replaced a Hayward H100i that was probably 15 years old. My only complaint is that the unit came pretty dinged up – likely FedEx’s fault and not InTheSwim’s.

I’m a pretty handy DIY-er, so installing it wasn’t that difficult. We dug up the lines because the inlet/outlet are on the back of the unit, as opposed to the side on the Hayward. We then poured a new concrete pad based on the clearance specs given in the manual.

Once everything was re-plumbed, it fired up the first time and heats noticeably quicker than the old unit. I really like the digital control better than the old analog Hayward. As a note, the outlet we have this on is timer controlled along with the pump for the pool filter.

I was worried that the heater would reset every time its power was cut, but it seems to save its settings. Saved me from having to do some re-wiring as well!.

I have bought over 6 pool covers and other companies/ covers last at least 3 year and this was the worst and fell apart after 1 year. Bubbles started cracking after 1year. Bubbles fail because of chemicals??? Yes chemicals are in pools and how do they know my pool is not correct.

I have a pool service every week. So you suppose to rinse the top of the cover with fresh water every time you take it in and out of the pool. Makes no sense garbage. In the swim response: Bubble damage is not covered under warranty, because the manufacturer did research at the end of 2015 with their covers to try and figure out what causes bubble damage.

The most common reason they found was a chemical issue with the water of a customer’s pool. Whether it is a constant balance issue or an issue that happens just once, once chemicals deposit on a cover it stays there until clean fresh water washes it off.

Chemical issues with covers has never been covered under warranty, so in January 2016 they discontinued covering bubble issues under warranty.

I highly recommend this cover for your pool. We likve in Sunny Northern California and have 8 weeks at or over 101F. WE currently have 6 weeks from 99-113F. I cover the pool during the day to reduce evaporation and open it at night to keep the water cool.

I also bought the reel to easily move the cover on and off, DO THIS !! excellent. Only get 1 year’s use and then then start to loose the little bubble caps. Great Bargain when you thin of the fact that I have not added water to the pool in over 5 weeks now!!! thats huge here is drought ridden CALIFORNIA!!!.

I used this off and on in the early summer but found I really didn’t need to use it when the evenings only got down to 70 and the highs were 88 to low 90’s. Now that It is September and the mornings are cooler and the evenings cool down quicker I will be using it nightly.

This morning the air temperature was 61 and slowly warmed up to 81 around 2 o’clock. Around 9 o’clock the water temperature was 83 degrees and reached 88 degrees when I checked around 2 or 3 this afternoon.

I don’t like cold water so I am very happy with this solar blanket. Hoping I am just as please with the temperature gets down in the 50’s at night.

Installed in minutes, no leaks and complete with hardware and manual. Better designed port connections than my larger, more expensive, failed GAME dome heater (2nd failed GAME heater for me). Shipping was timely but I struggled with the “value” question, as all these heaters seem expensive for what you get.

This cover was great at first but has quickly deteriorated. Just after 2 seasons it’s brittle and falling apart. Supposedly has a 3 year warranty.

Shortens cleanup time from falling leaves and debris. Raised the water temp about 10 degrees around the edges without pump running. Weighs less than the winter cover and easier to install and remove.

Great customer service. When the pool cover I ordered was not in stock the company contacted me to ask me if I wanted another that was slightly higher value for the same price. When I accepted they shipped it out that day and had just a few days later.

They then followed up to make sure I had received. Greatly appreciate their efforts to satisfy customers.

Replaced my old R206A with this updated model. This new model is easy to control, is better insulated from the elements, and keeps my pool effectively heated! Glad I purchased it. Definitely pick this up for your 15K-20K gallon pool.

It’s just the right size without overly increasing my gas bill. The old one suddenly sprung a leak within the heat exchanger, damaging internal components and making the unit useless. I’ll definitely ensure that my chemicals are better balanced, especially water hardness, which likely contributed to the old unit’s failure.

The heater is doing the job and is very quiet. We have a 22,000 above ground pool and it has no problem keeping it at 86 degrees. I was disappointed when it arrived because the picture shows the valves on the left (when looking at the picture), but arrived with valves on the right.

Customer service was not helpful. My pool guy made it work, but it costs me some additional money.

After spending some time looking for a replacement pool heater. I found the best price was with this company. Ordering was easy and convenient. Shipping was very quick. I installed it today and it works perfectly.

I am very impressed and would highly recommend this company and its services.
