20 Best Flip Phone For At&T (2023 Updated)

I decided to pick up this phone because the screen on my note 10+ was acting up. Initially I was worried about how the fold would sit in my pocket, but it honestly isnt too bad. I dont notice it any more than I did with my prior note devices (3, 5, 9, 10+) Although this is already the 3rd generation of this phone, there still needs to be some refinement of how the apps switch from cloae to open, and visa versa.

Since this is really the only model out there with this capability, it will be a while until more functionality between that transition is fine tuned, unless other devices begin to adopt this format.

Coming from the galaxy note 10+, i was on a 60hz screen. Getting bumped up to the 120hz was a nice surprise. I knew the refresh rate was updated, but its more of a situation that you dont appreciate it until you start to live with it.

Battery life is usually what I see as a complaint for this phone. Considering that the battery size is smaller than the other flagships put there, and large screens, plus 120hz refresh rate, Im not sure how expecting longer battery life is reasonable.

In addition to being my personal phone, I also use it to respond to work emails/chats, and find the battery life sufficient to get me through the day. I also dont have social media accounts, so im not as glued to my phone with posting stories and whatnot, however i do occasiinally browse reddit threads.

Some drawbacks: The front screen in folded form is a bit skinny for my preference, although it is beneficial for those that usually have a rough time reaching the whole keyboard. The galaxy s pen z fold edition should have been implemented with more functionality as designed with the note series.

I feel for the price point of 50 USD, or 80 USD with the case, is a bit high for the basic features it has. I thought that since the note wasnt getting an updated model in 2021, the innovation should have been shifted to the z fold series.

This phone is definitely a niche market phone, but I think is a good step forward for advancing phones to the next level. As we progress through the many iterations if flagships, its becoming harder to warrant spending 1k+ on a phone that has minimal upgrades to the prior rendition.

I had been waiting for the right new technology to come along to replace my old beloved Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I definitely wanted something that supported the S-Pen as well. I got the 512 GB version since there is no longer a mini SD card capability like my Note 8 had.

I had been thinking about the 2021 Samsung Galaxy Z-Fold 3, and Samsung offered a one-day only sale in late December (just before Christmas) and it was just too good to pass up! They even gave me $400 trade-in for my old Galaxy Note 8 (which is so old that Verizon is no longer offering any trade-ins for it).

Samsung included a free leather case (which I love and it fits the phone perfectly), free Galaxy Buds 2 earbuds (which are an incredible improvement in comfort & sound quality over my original Galaxy Buds, and they even have noise reduction), a Samsung 3-device wireless fast charging pad that wirelessly fast charges my Galaxy Z-Fold 3, Galaxy Buds 2, and my Galaxy Smartwatch 4.

It has the magnetic “dimple” area incorporated on one end for the Smartwatch. I also ordered the S-Pen Fold Edition, and love the way it works so seamlessly with my Galaxy Z-Fold 3. The Z-Fold screens are just amazing! When closed, it is slightly narrower than my old Galaxy Note 8, and easier to hold/use one-handed.

The outer “phone mode” screen is slightly narrower than my Galaxy Note 8, but still fully functional. The phone just feels great in my hand, and actually fits in my pockets better than the Note 8 did.

The real game-changer is when you unfold it into a small tablet size device. I now watch YouTube and other streaming and Samsung TV on my new Galaxy Z-Fold 3 in this mode and with the Galaxy Buds 2, it is like a private movie theater.

The built in stereo speakers of the Z-Fold 3 have the best sound of any phone I have ever used (including my wife’s iPhone 12), with a rich and full bodied sound that is surprising in such a small, light device.

This is really great because I used my phone in speaker mode for business calls when I need to be on my computer at the same time. I am overwhelmed by how good this Galaxy Z-Fold 3 performs in every way.

The 120 Hertz refresh rate makes scrolling on the screen buttery smooth and fast. The under-screen selfie camera is really well hidden, and you have to look hard to see it. It is so much better than a camera bump like iPhones have.

The main cameras on the back of the phone are next level, and the photos it takes actually look better than the ones my wife’s iPhone 12 takes! The new fingerprint sensor integrated into the on/off switch is a fantastic improvement since it makes turning on and logging into the phone a single long press of the on/off switch and the biometrics seems to be very accurate for the various fingers I have programmed it to read.

In summary, if you have ever dreamed of a great smartphone that can also be a great mini-tablet, this is the ultimate device to have. It is the only kind of smartphone my hand wants to hold anymore. And, with the S-Pen (Fold Edition) it is a leap beyond my Galaxy Note 8 that it replaced.

After having the Galaxy Z Fold 3 for over a month, I have really enjoyed using on to go while commuting to school, and I didn’t really think I would be using the dual screen as much as I do. Just the simple ease to open the phone and use a chrome browser with tabs feels like I am hold a small laptop within my pocket where I can just use as a phone whenever I need to and use it as a small tablet whenever it requires a more complex task.

I would say though that the cameras are a bit lower quality for a phone that costs over $1,500 and they could have been better, and the overall ease to unfold the phone is a bit hard due to the hinge being more stiffer, but I would say that the phone is a really unique invention and I am proud to show it off to people.

The overall performance is actually really good, as I am able to run multiple apps and games at once without having it slow down. The battery life though is a bit bad, especially when you use the phone as a tablet (unfolded) as I was only get around 7 hours of standard use throughout the day and around 4 hours with extensive use (playing two games at once), which I can understand considering that you are using two phone screens at once basically.

When not unfolded, I would get around 15 to 18 hours of battery life during the day with standard use. However, at standby, it seems as though the battery doesn’t drain that quickly, so I would say that the battery life really depends on how much you use it.

The front facing camera on the tablet screen is bad, but it is a new technology feature, so it’s somewhat acceptable. The rear cameras could be better, especially since the S21 cameras are much better, but they are still pretty good.

The front facing camera from the front screen is much better then the tablet screen, but could also have been improved. The overall quality of the screens and displays are actually one of the best that I have even seen on a phone as both screens have the 120hz display with the true OLED display to give a nice look to them.

The folded screen itself has greatly improved from the last two Galaxy Folds, and I actually really like the fact that I can use the S Pen to draw or write down quick notes whenever I need to. Overall I actually like use the phone and I cannot wait to see how Samsung will improve upon the upcoming Folds and Filps.

The phone was a little harder to set up until I figured out some of the quirks that were not explain in the on line instructions or maybe I missed them. The reason I have rated the phone 4 stars is the phone was originally based in India or South Africa.

One of the down loaded apps is African and South Africa news and some other apps are Indian based. Other than these, I really like the phone. It is the right size for the shirt pocket, it holds a charge for a long time and once you get used to it, it is easy to use.

I was really excited about using the google assistant, but once I added a weather app and some others, I don’t use it very much. I don’t use any social accounts so the phone having face book and twitter doesn’t excite me.

Also I don’t text so I have no complaints about that. The phone makes calls which it does well and I can hear and be heard and that is what is important. The rest is icing on the cake.

I purchased this phone on 11/25/20 for an elderly lady that cannot use a smart phone. Instead of using it as prepaid we put a SIM card in it and used it on our ATT account. It stopped working in Oct 2021.

A new battery did not help. I contacted Alcatel 10/6/21. They replied on 10/7/21 and asked questions about the phone. Since then all of my emails have been ignored. They clearly do not intend to honor their warranty.

The phone is defective and the customer service is the worst. I will not purchase a product made by this company again.

This is a great, basic flip phone for someone who is looking for a no frills affordable phone. It does have some nice features, such as an alarm setting, recording, address book. One thing it doesn’t have is a camera, but usually the quality of images is not great so if I need to take a picture of something, I just use my digital camera, whih is v small.

It does accept alpha/numeric texts, but it will not read emioticons or photos. I have to charge my phone about 2 or 3 times a week. The battery life is about 1. 5 years, or the port on the phone will no longer properly connect w the charger.

But for the price, it’s still v affordable.

I purchased the Samsung A157 as a backup phone in case my regular phone should fail when traveling, installed my SIM card, and charged the battery. After the battery was fully charged, I turned the phone on, and everything worked well, except the wrong time was displayed; it was one hour off.

I live in the Eastern Time Zone, but the phone displayed Central Time. It was verified that the time setting was set to “auto. ” In addition, it had a built-in world clock which displayed New York’s time as an hour off as well.

I proceeded to return it and buy a second one, but this one also displayed the time incorrectly. When I went to an AT&T store, they were as puzzled as I was and could not solve the problem. I then returned that phone as well.

I had a Pantech flip phone with display on the outer cover. The lens was cracked and was difficult to see the numbers that were calling. This Samsung unit is a great replacement. Just slip in my ATT sim card and replace a few numbers not already on the sim card and it works great.

When the calls come in I flip it open and decide then if I take the call or not. My Pantech automatically answered when I opened it(didn’t like that). The Samsung functions in much the same way as my old phone.

I don’t text or do internet so cannot report on those features. Have had no problems with calls dropping or poor reception except in areas already known as ‘dead zones’. Great value for the $’s.

Having gone from a bulky phone in the 90’s to a smart phone of the 2010’s ; I find I only really need a phone to put in my pocket. All the hype and ultra apps available just fog up the air waves. When you consider that just 3 decades ago we were’t able to make a phone call with out a line attached to the wall,we have come a long way.

I am able to talk and text if I want and can have a data plan as well. (I do not do data on a phone have an IPad) This phone being waterproof ,shock proof and dust proof is a real plus. I am not hard on phones but you never know what will come up.

The keypad is large enough for anyone fingers so you won’t hit the wrong keys YAY. The screen is bright and not too small to see it offers a font size choice The front screen is also a decent size and the clock is large and bright.

I can hear it ring in another room and the ear speaker is nice and loud. All in all a nice phone I use this phone on the. T mobile system. Jane.

This phone is a decent phone all around however, it fails in one major area. This phone IS NOT rugged and water proof thus it IS NOT military specification. The back battery door barely sits in place when the metal lock ring is turned.

I can stick my finger nail under the bottom portion and with very slight force pry the battery door off. I mean VERY slight force. The battery door doesn’t even have a rubber seal to keep water out of the most vital area of the phone.

Even if the door had a great fit, I don’t see how it would still be able to keep water out. Not impressed with the design of this phone. It shouldn’t be called the Rugby. It gives the impression that it’s a tough phone.

Maybe the Samsung Figure Skate would have been a better name.

Really like this little phone. It has proved reliable and is perfect for someone who wants just basic GoPhone and features. As a senior, my main need was to have a cell for safety reasons. It doesn’t get much use, but I carry it everywhere, have dropped it numerous times, and it takes that kind of wear well.

I just wanted to have call and text features and it is excellent for that. The screen is a bit small, but has good backlight and visibility is good. I rarely send a text, and I like the non-qwerty keys with their larger size and visibility.

Although this would be a handicap if you send a lot of texts. Although flip phones are passe, I appreciate not having to worry about the screen getting scratched or dirty. It has email and data features, but I don’t utilize them, so can’t speak for that.

I am pleasantly surprised by how pleased I am with this inexpensive little phone. One of my better buys of the last several years.

This phone has all of the very basic phone use functions, and even has a very small camera. It’s a small flip phone, with average size number keys, not for older or large finger people. Seems like call and receive voice clarity is average or a little better, call listen volume does not seem as loud as some phones I’ve had, even if you increase it.

It does not have any ability to play songs (mp3), and no headphone jack. It does Have BlueTooth, but I could not seem to get all of the headset functions to work with a new bluetooth 4 headset, but it did work with the headset.

If you only need a simple small flip, then this is for you, but if you do more then get a newer phone.

This is the third of these phones that we have had and was purchased to replace one that ended up in the washing machine and then the dryer – would you believe it broke? My wife and I use our phones simply for calling and speaking to someone, remember when that is what we used phones for? My grandkids tell me that it can text and take pictures but since we do not use it for that I could not speak to those capabilities.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a good, cheap, basic flip phone – this will do the job. (Just don’t try to wash and dry it!).

Pure talk stopped supporting 3G phones. Took the SIM out of my 3G phone and put it in this 4g phone and was making calls right away.

My wife couldnt make the transition from an old flip phone to a smart phone when we switched carriers. They never had flip phones in stock. The guy at the phone store suggested going to eBay to find on that was compatible with the new carrier.

We found this Alcatel phone to be perfect. No more arguments about the smartphone.

Alcatel needs to get out of the cell phone business! This is the poorest flip cell phone I have ever owned! I use a flip phone as my fall-back cell in case I break or loose my smartphone. Older LG or Motorola flip phones run circles around this POS! I used nothing but simpler cell phones prior to 2019; they were all used and were either one of the previous brands mentioned.

The features on this cell were mostly non-existent, I would classify it as a bottom-of-the-barrel 2018 cell that had some of the features of a year 2000 cell. Buy a higher-rated used cell.

Works well with T Mobile. (Also the only flip they offer but price was lower here). For me the down side is it has too many functions being 4G. I wanted something less “smart” My old 2G phone was easier to navigate when just calling and texting.

With the additional functions, I need to complete additional steps to get what I want. The biggest down side is you cannot read the text outdoors. Even shading the screen helps very little. Had to go 4G because T Mobile does not support 2G any more and old phone did mot work well after they upgraded towers.

Excellent build, crystal clear audio, fantastic keys and multi-day battery life! Ordered and was delivered as stated (like new, but without original box or accessories). Still saved a good $60 off retail MSRP.

I was able to install a few. apk (apps) such as Telegram, Google Maps, and MyRadar and that was all I needed, and desired. It covers the basics well, but I do miss the touch screen and speech to text capabilities my Sunbeam F1 had, but this is built so much better and I have no doubts itll last for many many years.

Speaker phone and earpiece loudness are unbelievable compared to a modern iPhone as well. And so far after charging it Friday, its Sunday and still going no problem. Id expect about 3 days easily with light to moderate use.

Camera is there, but its not winning any awards. Enough to capture your surroundings or send something in a message. Not for capturing your entire vacation, but itll do in a pinch. If you want to detox digitally, or just need a VoLTE flip phone to replace an aging 3G one, this is the one to get on Verizon, or even unlocked on other networks.

Had to purchase this because they wouldn’t let me connect a replacement convoy after losing. This is two ounces heavier and feels like a brick. Laugh if you want but the Convoy 3 was the best phone on the market for me, even 5 years ago.

This one doesn’t have a front screen or ability control the media player from the front. The speakers are on the inside not the outside. Overall the same functions are there, so why do they have to make the phone so big? Oh well, hopefully they’ll make it smaller in the future because it really is so, so heavy and big; I need a flip phone when laying tile and my screens crack with smartphones.

I don’t understand why Samsung doesn’t make another Convoy. Not happy with Verizon but have been with the company before it was Verizon back 30 years ago in the Bell Atlantic days. *Why can’t they change the music on hold is another story for a different day.

This phone was purchased to replace a 6 year old LG Revere flip phone for work. This phone is slightly larger and thicker than the Revere but the buttons and function screens are almost completely the same.

My real hang up with the phone has nothing to do with the ergonomics but with the operating system itself. My #1 pet peeve is the search function for contacts. One would think that searching for a contact would be the same as paging thru a phone book.

You would start with the first letter in the persons last name. In the case of a business, the first letter of the business name. This OS searches for the entered letter throughout the entire listing so the more information you place in the contact form, the more likely it will pop up.

This makes the process cumbersome and unnecessarily wastes time. My 2nd pet peeve is the running dialog of text messages. I can understand why some would like this but it would have been nice to be able to turn this function off.

My 3rd pet peeve is the fact that there are outer buttons on the phone that can operate functions on the phone as you grab it from the holster or pocket and while the lid is closed. My final pet peeve is that when you are finished with the phone and close the lid, the phone doesn’t reset to the start page but upon reopening you find yourself back where you left off.

While some would find this handy, the need to backtrack back out of a previous and now unwanted function is just another waste of time. To make matters worse, if your not paying attention to what your doing, you wind up sending something to the wrong person or dialing the wrong number.

Anyone reading this may think I hate this phone and I don’t. My first replacement was a Sonim XP5S, a phone I really liked for it’s size and heft but with a more complicated and disruptive OS.

Battery life lasts a week, phone is small and less of a distraction. Setup was not that bad. Learning to type on the flip phone was a learning experience but not so bad after getting use to it. Less of a distraction than my prior smart phone.

I have had mine for about two weeks. Feels solid and works well. Not particularly small as flip phones go; but I will do anything to avoid carrying a smart phone. Was packaged well and shipped fast.

I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) phone to a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 5G. The principal reason was to be able to make phone calls when on 4G only sites, for which VoLTE support is required. Having 5G was also wanted for future proofing.

So far VoLTE and 5G are showing up on the Skinny (Spark) network, and I will have to wait for Skinny/Spark to enable VoWiFi for the Flip 4 before I can try that – it should work. It was a major requirement for me that the phone still fit in my pocket in a way that did not interfere with push biking, and the Flip 4 was pretty much the only choice that I could find that is for sale in NZ and was not a parallel import.

It works well for that, but I am having to get used to flipping it open to use it, which is a little less convenient than with the A3. So far, I have rooted it successfully with Magisk and copied all my data and apps over using Smart Switch.

The only thing that I have found so far that does not work while rooted is Google Wallet, and with a little more work it is possible that I may be able to get that working too, but I am not worried about that as I never used it (as Google Pay) on my old phone.

I also had a problem where most of my contacts had been moved out of their specified groups to “Not assigned”. I had to spend some time going through them all and putting them back in the appropriate group, which was annoying.

I suspect a bug in Smart Switch was responsible for that. The hinge location can be visible in the middle of the main screen and when you do notice it, it is a little annoying. But mostly I do not notice it.

The Flip 4 is very fast compared to the A3 and I am greatly enjoying that. One annoying thing is that on certain apps, such as Clock, the fonts used are too large and there are unnecessary gaps between the alarm clock entries, resulting fewer showing at once compared to the A3, despite a much taller screen.

I am hoping to find a fix for that. Once rooted, the DHCPv6 app works well, and I get DHCPv6 assigned IPv6 addresses when on my home WiFi, making it much easier to manage my network – I can assign it a DNS name on my home DNS servers.

Overall I am very pleased so far, but it is only a week or so since I got it rooted and I have many more things to try out yet.

At age 80 decided I was ready for another flip phone after some 27 years, so I traded in my S20 Plus. My concerns about a smart flip phone were probably similar to those of anyone purchasing a modern flip phone.

Battery life, the strength of screens’ glass, and durability of its seam. Whatever the issues were on the previous generation flips, the Z4 has dealt with them and then some. While you should, and will, be conscious of the fact that this phone is not the typical block phone in terms of handling, it is solid, well designed, and it will be very durable.

While I have only been using this phone for a few days, I have to be consciously looking for the fold seam on the screen and even then I can’t see it unless I tilt the phone to an angle that reflects light off of it.

So it’s just not an issue. Whether it will become an issue after months of use will most likely depend on how you treat the phone when closing and opening it, a little caution and measured smooth movements as opposed to a rough, jerky, hard motion will go a long way toward preserving the screen I suspect.

Battery life is not an issue, at least for me. I am a moderate user and mid-day I still have plenty of battery life left. I can’t see anyone having an issue with battery life unless they are the heaviest of users.

The only thing I am still dealing with is getting my Google Pay set up so that I can use it without opening the phone. It works fine, but so far I need to open the phone to unlock Google Pay. To me the camera is just fine, I can’t tell any difference in quality from the S20 camera and that one was exceptional.

Pre-ordered the Burgundy version (which looks gorgeous by the way) and have used the phone for almost 2 weeks and the fold 4 has been great so far. + Actually feels nice to use one handed when folded and not too bulky + Gorgeous cover and inner screens + Great performance.

Applications feels very smooth even using multiple application in light performance mode. + I have had great battery life so far. I limit charging to 85% and can get about 6-8h SOT if not playing any games.

I usually have around 30% battery left around bedtime. Definitely recommend to set your performance mode to light to save battery and the phone will still perform very well. + Great for productivity and features such as multitasking with being able to have up to 4 apps open at the same time (though I would use up to 2 at the same time typically), a taskbar at the bottom of the inner screen, flex mode and ability to take selfies with the back camera.

+ Great back cameras, maybe not the best available but still do a great job with photos. + Very accurate and responsive fingerprint reader – A bit pricey still – Not dust resistant yet. Hopefully future versions will be dust resistant – UDC camera is not quite there yet Other things that would be nice for future versions (in my opinion): ~ Another 3mm or so more in width ~ Reduce the crease further (usually doesn’t bother me but it can be more noticeable from an angle or in dark mode) ~ Include S Pen with the phone.

Bigger screen, bigger keypad and all round lovely little phone for a more senior person. Charging is easy and the flip closing means it automatically switches off when not in use. Easy access to messages and a useful feature is the SOS setup which we inadvertently tested recently.

Caused some panic until we reassured all contacts that all was ok. Good safety feature for our more elderly relatives. Pocket sized and useful for people who want a basic phone to communicate with others without the bells and whistles of more modern phones.

Really pleased with it and so is my 87 year old father in law!.
