20 Best Fishing Lures For Crappie (2023 Updated)

Tried the Chromo-Glow version of these a couple of days ago at a local lake, and again just today. I simply put them on the end of a hook, with no other lure or jig or whatever, and these things worked like magic! Literally I would plop my hook baited with the nibble, and a sinker and a bobber, and within a minute I almost always would have a bite.

Works as good as if not better than the nightcrawlers I usually had used. Just today, I went fishing today at my local pond around 6:00 PM, and by the time I left at 8:00, between me and my wife (who had never fished before) we caught 9 bluegill and 1 crappie.

This was even taking time for me to show her how to bait, cast, and catch and release fish! They only thing I can say, like a few others had mentioned, is they can come off the hook easy if you don’t “prep” them.

What I do, is kind of roll the nibble around and “squeeze” it into a little bit tighter of a ball, then bait just the tip of the hook to where the tip of the hook is just barely showing through the ball.

I haven’t lost any nibbles yet doing that, other than the occasional missed fish due to me not paying attention. But yeah, I love these things, and for the number of fish you can catch with them, I like them better than worms!.

I started using Powerbait Crappie Nibbles years ago after reading an article that they enhanced your chances during winter when the water is colder and fish metabolism has slowed. It turned out the article was right.

My catch ratio soared so much that I now use them all the time, even in warm weather. A good friend and a great crappie fisherman who scoffed at the idea, and who constantly out caught me, started using them after watching me out catch him.

I usually fish in the early morning before sunrise, I recently realize they didn’t glow. I use them next to Garland’s “Glo” lure and there is definitely glow with garlands but not the nibbles. Either way it still works and you do get a bit more than the normal Nibbles.

So no harm or foul.

My buddy told me of a mythical lure called the Bandit Lure. He described it as being colored similar to a crawfish and having the ability to swim shallow waters. I searched high and low for this mythical thing.

I asked the old timer at the local bait shop who recalled seeing one similar to what I described. Said the lure was made with Poseidons own hands. The old man hobbled and bent down below the counter and showed me the remains of what he described as the Magic Lure.

Let me tell you this, the lure I purchased through eBay on the interwebs is the exact replica. The first cast with this thing and I pulled in a 22 3/4 lb small mouth bass. The fish looked at me as if to say, Thats an illegal lure, my friend.

So retired it.

These baits are my go to crank bait. The 300 will get down 14-15 feet when trolled on 20 lb braid with a three foot fluorocarbon leader. The color selection very good with great colors across the spectrum.

Hooks and hardware are excellent and ever dingle bait runs true out of the box. Oh yea they catch fish too!.

King Mr. Crappie Slab Slasher Jig Heads are one of the best, if not the best, jig heads for Crappie fishing. The quality of design, paint work, and the larger size of the hook on a 1/32 jig make them perfect for casting for those monster crappie.

I switched completely to these hooks after losing the biggest crappie I have ever hooked on a 1/32 jig head with a smaller hook. And although some may not see this as a positive, I like how that though the hook is easily strong enough to hold the biggest of crappie, I have found it to have just enough give from time to time to allow me to, with care, pull it off of a submerged limb.

I’ve been fishing crappies for years. I like the 1/32 oz weight with a big hook like this. And the weight distribution is good. Lead head is not too big, so the hook setting is very easy.

Bought these in a variety of colors and fished them on 16th and 8th oz ball head jigs. We caught dozens of nice Crappie, Yellow Perch, slab Bluegillls and a few 10-15″ Largemouths. We found the red/chartreuse and lime/chartreuse (both on a yellow chartreuse jig) to be the most effective.

It was a GREAT day out and panfishing is always a nice little break from hardcore Bassin.

Using these tube jigs has been successful for Crappie. The pink/yellow color combination works well.

Charged with helping my brother eradicate 100 crappie from his pond, I tied a 1/16 oz jig head with one of these, in white/chartreuse, and out-fished The Master on his own pond. Mid-way through the second day of this, he figured he’d try one of these.

Bonus! Obviously a very good attractor tail for crappie, bluegill and even bass! The “Junebug/Chartreuse” version worked equally well.

I bought a package of these this spring. I got the monkey shine because of a reviewer. I went to a small pond and was amazed at the results. It catches everything that swims. I like the fact that the lure is 2 inches and not 1 1/2 inches like most others.

It also has a fat ribbed body which seems to add to the profile. When the lure drops the tail will helicopter on the way down. I have fished several times at 2 different ponds and it was the only lure I used and was catching fish all day.

I then bought the hot and electric chicken colors and with 2 others in the boat and each using a different color we had many doubles and a triple. I have been fishing a long time and this is one of the hottest lures I have ever seen.

It does catch a lot of crappies but it is impossible to keep other fish from grabbing it. Is that a problem ? Not for me.

Bought this slabalicious lure in the hot chicken color a couple weeks ago after watching a program on tv. Went to a local lake where my dad and I havent had much luck (sometimes skunked) in the past 2 years.

First cast hit a nice white perch and 2 casts after that started the crappie bite. Trolled back to our spot after the wind drifted us a bit and landed a 16” 2 pound largemouth. Landed over 40 fish that day.

I love catching pan fish. This bait is absolutely one of the best for that. Like other reviews say, this bait is tuff. I still have the very first one I threw, still use it I have caught idk at least 30 fish on it.

Pick a color and it’ll work. I use the electric green/lime, red/glow, and white/chartruse. I am collecting them all!.

just received the Joker plastics. good colors available. i was worried about the durability of the three “tails”. typically plastic will get ripped of by small bluegills. these tails are thicker and more durable than other small plastics.

the three tails also slow the drop speed compared to a standard crappie tube jig. Thanks again. 2″ is good and it works, i would like to see a smaller size for icefishing.

We use beetle spins often in our pond. These Strike King Joker baits seem to bring more strike with not only bream, but bass. Great lure. Just ordered three more packages. Hold up well under numerous catches.

I have been a fan of Charlie Brewer’s baits since the seventies. These little slider grubs catch a world of panfish from crappie to red ear to bluegill and more. And one can get plenty of black, brown, spotted and white bass with them too.

They come as the stock tail on the Crappie Dueller which is one of my favorite underspins. The available color range is crazy fun. A must have in the finesse and panfish arsenal.

I moved to a new state with a lake close to my house. I was catching couple fish each day until one early morning I met an older guy who was catching some right away. He gave me one of these sliders (chicken color) & said it’s only lure he uses ever.

I didn’t believe him at first until I tied it on and everyday since it’s the only lure I use for crappie. Caught 100 crappie first week & never looked back, we both fish together now & laugh at the minnow-only fisherman as they always ask if we caught our limit with minnows.

I highly recommend this lure & haven’t bought other colors yet because haven’t needed to but definitely will they quit biting chicken or hit another lake. Only problem is they sell out quick at local Bass Pro, funny part is the old man said it’s probably him because he buys 4 packs at a time!.

I use this lil lure everywhere from small rivers creeks and big lakes. They jus plain catch everything crappie and bream killers they are. I catch white bass all the others red shoal spots and largemouth bass.

My favorite is fishing guntersville lake blowing up crappie then wham 13-15lb drum these lures catch everything.

this is the next best option without going to live bait. I always wait until I absolutely can’t get a sunfish to bite, to put these on. One thing I’m not a fan of is the durability. If you don’t get hit on three casts, the Crappie Bite is a wrap.

Bought this to get my daughter into fishing without having to get her over worms and such. A couple of nibbles but after hours of fishing, no bite. Swapped to some old shrimp I found in the freezer, bam bites.

Perhaps it’s more particular on the region. But, north Texas isn’t it.

Not comparable to Power Bait/Berkley crappie nibblets. These were not as effective when compared with Power Bait/Berkley. The crappie bite would not release sent as it got into the water like Power bait/Berkley nibblets do.

I do not recommend.

I bought a pack of the Big Bite Baits Cane Thumper in “Disco Violet” and they are great! The first time I tried these I caught a nice sized white bass. These baits are very durable, they have an awesome scent, and they are very easy to rig, even for beginning fishermen.

They have grooves in them to easily accommodate a 3/0 EWG hook with a 1/4 bullet weight. When Texas rigging these baits, you do not even have to sink the tip of the hook back into the plastic to make it weedless (due to the grooves)! The Cane Thumper also has great vibration due to the ribs and the paddle tail! Did I mention it casts a mile? Cuz it does! This is a very hefty bait! Overall a great swimbait to throw, especially on a Texas rig!!! I recommend this product to anyone looking for an affordable effective swimbait lure.

You will not regret it so go out and buy yourself a pack or two.

I have been using these vs other minnow looking swim baits this spring/summer and having mostly the same results. I’m the only one catching anything and they are all bigger fish. Now, this is the only swim bait they are hitting.

(watermelon ghost). I scanned the whole area with others and this is the only one they hit. I just caught four in 20 minutes. I’m raking them across the moss in about 2 feet of water. It’s 100 degrees outside high noon.

It’s been this way for 3 days now. Get a pack of these. If they don’t work, hang on to them and try them again later. *or send them to me*.

The watermelon red ghost color will always catch fish. On those tough days when you can’t get a bite, this is my go to lure. You’ll never get shut out. It has an awesome swimming motion. Fish usually hit it hard and swallow it deep, resulting in no missed fish.

I’ve caught numerous bass and even a few redfish and specks. I need to try some of the other colors.

I tried these out at my lake’s outlet to check their action. I caught 3 trout and 2 small mouth bass. It is only March and the water is cold, but the action on these baits drew strikes. Wait until the water warms up.

Then they will really get the chance to work out.

I fished the shad pole under a bobber at a drift pace and on a day that I could only catch dinks I ended up snatching a 14 incher with it!

I have caught more crappie with the Refrigerator White Glow Shadpole than any other plastic. It’s my go to plastic for sure.

I bought this bait and immediately put it on a rod and went fishing. In January. I went to a small lake near my house and fished for about 10 minutes. The first five were just me getting the weights on my reel set up and the rest was just fishin.

I didn’t last very long because well. It’s January in Memphis and also windy. On my last cast I realed in a decent 3 pounder. This bait hooked him well kept him on. I then went home due to the fact that I was loosing feeling in my toes.

This is a very good bait and a value for the money.

Have only used these a couple times but they have produced. I’ve caught both white perch and redfish with them in shallow water areas. The design also seems to make them somewhat snag resistant but not totally snag free, I’ve lost one to snags.

I bought one of these wanting to try something different and found that the fish love them. every other cast i was pulling in a fish until it got snagged and i lost it. after that i didn’t catch nothing till i switched back to the roadrunner.

These small but just the right size scrubs attract not only crappie, bass find them attractive and can’t resist attacking them when used with a spinner blade. Hey, can’t leave out the bream either. This is just a good all around bait that even the pro’s will eventually add to their tackle box.

Very disappointed when I got this. Loved the product but WALMART didn’t tell it was a 3rd party vendor. Shipping was $6. 50 for 1 pkg. not good business. Then I was on the phone 45 minutes to find out why.

These scrubs catch fish so fast that you’ll have your limit of fish in minutes. Can’t believe how inexpensive they are too. They’re worth 3 times more at least. I caught 96 crappies on 1 scrub last year.

Buy them before they’re illegal.

This crank bait in hot blue shad will absolutely destroy the smallmouth over rip rap along shore in 4-8 feet of water. Works well in muddy water too. Make sure you get the rattling version.

These crankbaits are great fished parallel over rocky shorlines and submerged weeds. They have a fairly wide wobble action and deflect nicely off of structure which really triggers bites. They run true even when burned through the water.

The bill is practically indestructable, and the rattle is very loud. These really excel for me in cold water along rock structures. Just tick the bottom slowly, letting it float up after bumping a rock, and the fish will hammer it.

Last trip out I landed 11 in 2 1/2 hrs in 42 deg water, four 4 lbers, and one 5 3/4 lb toad.

I catch and release all up and down the rivers in Southwest Ohio, using a fly rod. I’ve tied flies professionally, but switched to Bitsy Tubes and Circle Hooks. Their White tubes float for top water, chartreus and green imitate minnows, brown and orange for crawfish after mid July.

The Circle Hook takes in the mouth, not the gills or stomach. And after 10 years, Bitsy Tubes take the most fish, hands down.

Every trophy sized smallmouth bass I’ve ever caught has been on this lure. I pair it with a bass pro 1/8 oz tube head and the action is ridiculous. It has resulted in many days of 200+ fish. Fished on a st croix avid medium light 7 foot rod paired with a shimano stradic 1000 series makes it even better because of the sensitivity of the rod and drag capabilities of the reel.

I have been fishing with these since I was a kid. I have caught largemouth, smallmouth, crappie, yellow perch, bluegill, northen pike, chain pickeral, bowfin, white perch, striper, etc. If a fish has a mouth you can probably catch it on a slider.

They are not super tough but the action from the soft paddle tail is why this grub is so productive. I call this lure my fish finder, if finds fish the electronics can’t. I have boated slab crappie on this grub that turned there nose at live minnows.

Rigged with a 1/32 ounce jig head, it falls about a foot a second, so you can “countdown” and put it in the face of a suspended fish. The entire time the lure is in the water that tail is thumping and wiggling, so strikes come on the drop, retrieve, and jig.

Very versatile and I never hit the water without a good supply in the tackle box.

I had to stock up on these for my crappie fishing starting in February. They work really well on a heavy leadhead jig in early season river situations. They are always a crappie killer when crappie are fairly deep!!.

The lure did not float as advertised. On the first day of use, it sunk to the bottom and hung up. The diving design of the pectoral fins made it impossible to retrieve the lure once it lost its buoyancy.

I hung up in 18′ of water. After multiple emails and finally a phone call. Shimano North America informed me that it wasn’t their problem since I couldn’t send the lost lure in to be inspected. The most expensive lure I’ve ever purchased didn’t work as advertised, and the supplier didn’t care.

This lure just flat out catches big bass. I highly recommend a heavy muscle rod and 40-50lb braid to assist with setting the hook with this heavy expensive lure. I missed a 7-9lb the other day because I was using a Lew’s light-weight jerk bait rod and reel.

These things work great. I catch more largemouth on them than anything else. Bagged some nice crappies as well. Only bad thing, you can’t get replacement tails unless you buy more heads or use a different brand.

2 weeks on the Chippewa flowage, I had only one crappie buster. This bait always caught crappies, no matter who was using my rod. The best crappie bait I’ve used fished the flowage since 1985 thanks for the great bait! I just ordered 20 for a Sept.
