20 Best Fescue Seed For Georgia (2023 Updated)

Grass was planted Sept 2021. Put down three tri- axle trucks of dirt and organic compost. Spent a lot of money. Lawn was gorgeous for months. Pride of the neighborhood. Than in August it started dying.

Whole yard is mostly dead. Just purchased all new seed and machinery to turn the soil. Not from pennington box big box store seed. Bought from local seed farm. Mill stores in Maryland. Never again. I have pictures.

I grew this in a pot because of the wintery weather conditions we had. It grew in less than 2 weeks time, once planted indoors. I plan to transfer the patch after it reaches a few inches. This grew quickly once it had above freezing temperatures.

It has a nice bright green color to brighten and enhance the look of your lawn. It’s great for filling in sparce looking lawns or filling in bare patches. This would be ideal for new lawns because it covers well and is weed free.

It’s also drought and disease resistant. I would recommend this grass seed if you value a nice looking lawn.

This Fairway Formula Perennial Rye-grass Blend by Greenview is an excellent choice. This Rye grass blend is perfect for the patchy areas in my back yard. I also used it to over seed a few areas near my walkway and driveway that tend to get damaged due to being high traffic areas.

This is the most beautiful package of clean seeds I have ever seen. There is absolutely no fillers, no clumping, no dirt or dust, or any debris in this bag. It is the cleanest, most uniform package of grass seeds I’ve come across.

It’s been about 2 weeks and I definitely see improvement in my lawns fullness. Since these are pure, uncoated seeds, I seeded the lawn right before it rained for two days. I am happy with my results and think this is an excellent choice for over seeding lawns.

I will know more about this product next spring/summer as it hopefully grows after preparing and seeding the present lawn. I did lose a little bit of the packaged seed inside the UPS box, as the bag had ripped open a little.

Therefore, it might need to be packaged a little better in the future.

Ordered the 1/4 acre, white Dutch clover seeds. Shipped quick, and planted them. They are sprouting up quickly! Planted them in my dry clay soil, where nothing else would grow, not even weeds would grow.

Put the seeds down and watered them off and on, plus we had lots of rain over the week. They quickly came up, very pleased with the results! Highly recommend them! Planted grass in the same spot and grass wouldn’t grow but clover didn’t have any issues! Love it!.

This was my 5th 10# bag. The seed quality may not produce more clover as I want. I cut grass short then put down seed like it tells me. Sandy soil. Florida rains help but. I should have more clover with 5 bags.

I recently got a bag of Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass-Bermudagrass for an area between my carport and my screen porch. I have had trouble growing grass in this area since we have lived here for over 25 years.

The reason we have had so much trouble is because we live in a low area below another home which has a lake. When we get a lot of rain, there overflow comes down toward our home and some of the rain water runs in between this area.

It is only affected with heavy rains but after my husband applied our Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass wouldn’t you know it we got a heavy rain days after and I believe this, along with a late frost, is what caused our experience with this product to fail.

We never get frost this late into the year and even this coming week we are supposed to get a couple more nights with frost. As soon as I know the threat of frost is COMPLETELY over, I will definitely be giving it another go around.

Scotts is an exceptional brand and we have used this in the past so I know how well it works. The thing I love about this product is that it contains both seed and fertilizer all in one and it is so easy to apply.

All you have to do is prep the area you are applying it to, in our case my husband had to first kill all of our weeds, then he tilled up the area and leveled it. After he applied Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass-Bermuda, with our Scotts Mini Spreader, he then watered it.

After a few days, we already began to see grass seedlings sprouting up but the heavy rain and frost ruined our success, but it won’t the next time we apply it in the coming weeks. I am so ready for some green Bermuda (and summer).

Last Spring, I cleared an area in my front yard and put down Scotts Tall Fescue seed. I put down some cheap fertilizer and watered twice a day for two weeks but the results were less than spectacular.

I think that was my fault because I didn’t rake the seed in and the birds in the neighborhood were feasting on the seed. The other reason is that Scotts recommends planting in the Fall – not the Spring.

I live in an area where we can get snow in mid to late May. I jumped the gun on planting, so the fact that I had any seed germinate is a testament to the quality of Scotts seed. This year, I’m planting in the Spring again but things are going to be different.

I’ll rake a small area to loosen the soil before planting and once I spread the seed/fertilizer mixture, I’ll lightly rake again. However, I won’t put all the seed down until the air has reached the recommended temperature and the chance of frost has passed.

I will try putting a small amount of the mixture in a small test area that I can water by hand and waiting 2 weeks to see if anything comes up. If not, I’ll try that again until I see good results and then I’ll take care of the remainder of the area and set up the sprinkler and timer.

My expectations are that I will be very pleased with what I see 2 weeks after the final spreading of the seed/fertilizer. I’ve been a Scotts customer for many years and haven’t been disappointed yet! Yes – I’ll be overseeding in the Fall….

Early spring we noticed our front yard had more weeds coming up than previous years. We spent several days pulling weeds from our lawn and we were left with large bare spots of just dirt. Yikes! We decided to plant grass seed and see what happened! We tilled the areas and added additional topsoil to the bare areas.

We spread the Rapid Grass seed very heavily, in hopes that at least some of it would grow. I love that this package not only included grass seed but a fertilizer as well. This combo seemed like the best way to get our grass started.

We have been watering the seeded areas twice a day. Keeping the soil moist is definitely key to the grass growing success! And keeping the birds and squirrels away from the grass seed! I was impressed that after 5 days, we were able to see tiny little sprouts coming up! That seemed too quick as most people say it takes 2-3 weeks before seeing any signs of new grass.

After 2 weeks of watering, we have most of our bare spots filled in with grass blades about 2 inches! I am super impressed with Scotts Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix! We will be using this on our backyard project this week as well! Looking forward to having a summer with a beautiful grass for our family to enjoy!.

We bought our home last year and the whole yard was done with fescue sod. After the first year we notice a lot of heavy patches dying and splits or seams where the sod was laid that looked awful. I know that It has potential to work really well.

I’ve bought about 8 35lb bags so far and prepared the spots the same through out. Ive spread the product the same and water it all the same according to mulch color. The grass that sprouted looks amazing but only 1/2 to 3/4’s actually germinated.

This was the disappointing part when they cost $50+ a bag. We will see how they do moving forward. Mixed feelings obviously. When it works its fantastic, when it doesn’t its super disappointing.

I have two German shepherds and a pool put in a year ago. There was small patches of grass and weed and nothing would grow. This has made it the thickest and prettiest I’ve ever seen it. Negative: I’m not 100% sure but it may have stopped my redbud from blooming.

Fertilizer has nitrogen and too much will hurt your tree. The more you have, the prettier your grass will be.

I purchased these seeds 3 weeks ago and waited a week before I put them down. I used a power seeder to put down 3- 40lbs bags. I watered twice a day 45min. in the morning and 30 min. in the evening for 10 days and I noticed the lawn was filling in good.

I cut it high and it looked good I do have some spots that I will fill in. But I am pleased with the results so far. I live in a sandy area and they are growing well. I did use the weak and feed and Granular Line 28 days before I put the seeds down that may have helped.

Now I will keep watering and cut high for the rest of the summer.

As it says, guaranteed results. This seeds started growing in less than a week and by the second week the lawn was already almost completely filled and tall deep green grass was about ready for it first trim.

Amazingly fast and thick grass in three weeks, at temperatures of over 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks Scotts, our yard is looking great in no time!.

Grass seed is hard to review because a lot of the success of the seed depends on how well it was applied by the homeowner and it what conditions. I made two mistakes that by sharing, hopefully others might avoid.

First mistake was not checking the upcoming weather. Using a handheld spreader, I applied seeds to all four of my existing lawns. Two of them are large, the other two are smaller. They are very patchy so I decided to seed the entire lawn and focus a little more on the patchy areas.

I used the entire contents of the 7lb bag. Problem was, that night and for the next 3 days, it rained like crazy and I had streams of new seed draining from my lawns. I had no way of knowing how much or little still remained.

A couple of weeks later, I tried again. I applied another 7lb bag to all four of my existing lawns. Followed the directions on the bag to a T. And two weeks later, I have sprouts in the bare areas that I went heavier on.

I can’t really tell if it’s coming through the existing lawn yet but I have no doubt it will too. The only suggestion I have (and mistake number two) is to not spread the seeds when it’s breezy. The seeds are so fine and light, that many blew away in the wind when spreading them.

I waited several weeks to review this product as I really wanted to see how it’d work and if the results were worth the effort. So far I can definitely say that grass is growing and it looks great! I was pretty shocked at how well this actually worked! I also want to comment on the packaging — super high quality, easy to understand, and unlike other brands this feels very safe for my family and pets.

This is modern product design done super well for a chore that not all of us enjoy! The mix was easy to spread and by following some very easy instructions I quickly saw results. The grass seems hardy and like it will hold up well.

We needed some to add some grass need our pond and love the look of tall fescue! This product arrived so nicely packaged in a secure box. The seeds bags provide instructions for planting which is easy and pretty self explanatory.

We made sure our soil was prepared and distributed the seed as suggested. It’s only been 2 weeks since our planting so we are waiting for results! Unfortunately we have been in a bit of a drought so we are hand watering when we are able but this grass is suppose to handle the heat and drought that we often have in Texas.

We were able to cover a huge area of ground with a 7lb bag-we used 2 bags for all our ground where it is needed. We look forward to seeing the results in the weeks to come!.

This is the fastest germinating grass seed I have ever planted. It is thick and bright green. I am ordering more for more area’s of my yard.

Check shipping charges, The shipping charge cost as much as the grass seed. When I placed the order it said free shipping. I called wallmart and they said it was from a third party vendor that is why I had to pay for shipping.

Watch Out.

Just tried this dense shade area of my back yard and I need to wait and see what comes up. I hope this works as I have tried everything in the past.

IšverstiShow in original languageBought this to overseed in spring and now fall. Germination rate of about 50% in my case in the fall. I was battling some hot days late in Sept. So double up on seed rates.

For me it germinated on day 7 which is pretty incredible given it’s a tall fescue. By 3 weeks it was nearly 4 inches tall. In the spring seeding germination rates were about the same. It held up fairly well to summer heat (90-105) with some brown patches.

I wasn’t watering more than 2x a week and it was a spring seed. A very durable grass. The leaves are a little thicker than I expected so the photo is pretty accurate. Looking forward to seeing how it holds up next summer with proper fall care.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is by far the worst grass seed I’ve ever used. It’s been 4 weeks and barely any germination after throwing down 100lbs after de thatching and aerating the lawn. Great seed to soil contact with constant watering over 4 weeks and almost nothing.

In one part of the property I threw 20lbs of perennial rye and that looks absolutely amazing. Almost $500 down the drain and probably not enough time for me to throw new seed down before winter. All the the hours spent prepping for nothing.

Would not recommend this grass seed to anyone.

With that said , my only gripe is this. I ordered 2-50lb bags of the Hancock TTTF and they sent me DLF pickseed, which was fine. I found myself short on seed so I placed another order for one 50lb bag and they sent me League Master.

Each had their own trifecta of seed blends. I’m no pro but someone who wants consistency with specific seed species may find that really bothersome. At the end of the day , it’s just grass. I do have some color inconsistencies in the yard as my assumption is because of the different varieties of seed.

Just wish that part of it was “better”. Seems like if you order the Hancock TTTF they send you what they’re selling instock at the time as their house brand. It won’t keep my from ordering in the future but will keep in mind to try and order what I need all at once so I’m able to get all matching bags within that batch.

I did like the DLF pickseed over the League master in case it matters to someone. Thanks Hancock , I appreciate the sales / discounts you offer and the quality of product is good. Cheers !.

Worked better than I expected- sprouted within 10 days and growing great under the maple tree.

We needed high traffic grass seed and since it has been a bit warm and raining it is coming up already

I usually try to overseed our yard each fall. Since we have a fairly good size yard, I try to get a reasonably priced grass seed. For the past several years I have been using seed from TSC. I have used the DLF KY-31 Tall Fescue several times now and have been pleased with the results.

The most important things to me are the germination rate, the germination time, and the durability. I am very pleased with the results in these three areas. Even though Middle TN tends to get quite hot and often dry in the summer, the DLF KY-31 tends to do quite well, even though fescue is a cool season grass.

This brand my die back a little during the hottest times, it tends to come back nicely when it starts to cool off and the autumn rain begins to fall. I am well pleased.

I have bought quite a bit of this grass seed over the years, typically 2 bags per year(100lbs total), and it seems every year i get less satisfactory results. This past spring i overseeded and planted some new areas only to have patches of this grass die after a couple weeks.

I came up great but went downhill from there. I tried more water and less water in hopes to figure out what was happening but it didnt help. I just overseeded the current lawn and planted a new patch with fresh loam and while it came up great, after a couple weeks large, brown patches of dead grass started appearing.

This might be my last year buying seed from TSC since i’d rather spend twice as much and end up with green grass instead of brown patches of dead grass.

Bought this seed in spring of 2019. Did not apply the seed to my lawn until late September early October here in the upstate of South Carolina Greenville. I bought a dethatcher for my riding mower. Dethatche the lawn then applied seed.

I watered the lawn every day with my irrigation system at 4am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm, and 7pm. I set the sprinkler system to only water my lawn for 5 minutes at each time programmed, except for the 3pm time.

It was set to water for 10 minute duration at 3pm. I stopped that watering schedule by late October and then let mother nature take over at that point. I applied Scott’s starter for new seed when I seeded the lawn and did a follow up feeding early November.

Within 8 days I had growth. And by the middle of October I had to cut the lawn. Then cut the lawn again in November. I also made sure I kept the leaves off the lawn all winter long. On March 10th 2020 I put down Scott’s triple action fertilizer with crab grass preventer.

Reactivated my irrigation system on March 20th and it now waters the lawn on Saturday Tuesday and Thursday at 4am for 15 minutes and again at 5pm for 15 minutes. And I have to say my yard looks AWESOME! Very good seed.

I always do a test of my seeds to make sure they are even viable and sprout before I go through with planting them and waiting. I ordered about 10 different types of prairie grasses (this is one of them), and they all have sprouted nicely, so I know they are good seeds.

The shipment arrived very quickly, it only took a couple days from when I ordered. The seeds are packaged very nicely in gold packets. Very happy with the seeds, would order again! (Picture included, the plate did get bumped by my child so the seeds kind of moved on me.

It is clear that these seeds are the best if you cannot find any wild rice on your territory. They clearly seal the seed right after harvesting them and they are all very viable! Carefull because there dormancy may be already be broken from sleep when they arrivr to you! It is a while since they are fridge and they smell the fresh air of where they come from.

There are alot of scam online for wild rice seeds. These ones are the real ones you want to plant. They are not cut, pure and ready for sowing.

This is great grass seed! I’m new to the growing from scratch game. This seed germinated in less than 1 week. It was blown around for 3 days ( 20 mph gusts) and then a long soaking rain that I thought would wash it all out.

But no! Still in place and thriving! I can’t wait for summer!.

I turn over my soil and raked it before adding the seeds and adding new black soil over the seeds but not too much. I watered it twice a day once at 7am and again at 7pm for more then two weeks. Its growth was at best spotty so I added more seeds and raked the seeds into the soil and continued to water it twice a day.

What a waste of water and time. I’m not looking forward to seeing my water bill.

When I ordered this product I though it was a fescue. I was surprised when it wasn’t. It would have been better if it had been labelled annual or perennial as well.

Did the trick as i can seed all the little sprouts popping up across the bare spots . Awesome!

I used PatchMaster on a couple spots that were bare in my yard. I have a good cover of tall fescue overall in yard. But i had a couple problem areas. I prepared spots to reseed by raking soil to loosen.

I then applied the PatchMaster to areas. I watered as directed and kept it damp for several days. The seeds started to grow. I continued to water as directed. I now have no dead patches of lawn. I am a dedicated user of Scotts lawn products.

I have been using their products for a few years now. I would not switch. I have tried the cheaper brands. My yard is greener with no weeds.

I had bare areas in my lawn that needed new grass. Rather than buy seed, mulch, and starter fertilizer I purchased one product the Patch Master. It was easy to use, and the grass sprouted in one week and is getting close to the first mowing.

So far so good. I do think one thing can be added to the directions about how much to use. I have discovered that I tended to put it on too thick. I have been surprised that the grass is actually growing in better where I didn’t use as much product.

I remember reading someplace to apply grass seed like you are salting your steak. A phrase similar to that might be helpful to use the proper amount.

We all have them. Bald spots. I’m not talking about heads, I’m talking about all the bald sections through all the grass in our yards. It’s a pain, and with erosion it can get worse and worse. Having to use a cane to walk is hard, but the weight of this bag isn’t just grass seeds.

It’s mulch, fertilizer and the seed in one! First, I walked around the yard looking for all the bald spots, putting sticks in the ground high enough I could see them, then getting my pitchfork and making holes for the grass seeds/mulch/fertilizer combo.

I lucked out with rain (we got a few showers, but not many around us did) so I didn’t have to do much more that day, and get off my feet quicker than I expected. Now, I’m at the “wait and see” seeds turn to grass.

I replaced my bermuda grass lawn with the Creeping Red Fescue and it turned out even better than I imagined! The region I live in is very hot so I wasn’t sure how the seed would take, but I followed the instructions and the grass grew perfectly.

I now have a beautiful, lucious green lawn that is soft as well as sturdy. Thanks to the people at American Meadows for the great info and tips! Couldn’t have done it without you.

Mostly I use this seed to fill in bare spots around my property. As long as it does not dry out (especially after sprouting) a high percentage of the seed grows. I never see such high percentage with local store bought seed.

Sometimes the local seed does not put up a single blade of grass. So, if you want a good take buy your seed here and keep watering it.

The front of the house has fine blades grass that looks pretty good I wanted the same look in my backyard which looked terrible until I found this product that it is amazing, my soil is 100% clay hard like rock but this grass is growing fast I saw results in just a week, I used 15 Lbs.

for 2500 sqft. in less than a month I was mowing my backyard very happy with the results.

This grass seed worked great! I used a tiller on the yard to prep. Got up all the old grass and weeds, then added a layer of topsoil. Added fertilizer and a bag of the tall fescue seeds. Then did a layer of straw to protect the seeds.

Came up great and looks great!!! Five stars. This was in a area without full sun. Lots of very tall trees along the side of the yard.

I purchased two bags of these grass seeds and followed instructions to the letter, who would not consider the cost (overpriced and over-rated). Sent pictures to show the results which were awful. I requested a guaranteed refund.

The seller refused to issue a refund (asked that I return the product, knowing that I planted the grass seed. Who does that? Perhaps the grass seed was outdated. One thing is certain, the seed did not perform as stated.

Poor Customer Care.

I am happy with this dense shade mixture of grass seed. I am sure it’s going to be great in my backyard. There are so many trees that block the sun so grass doesn’t grow very well. It looks like this mixture is very high quality and will work great.

I have raked and am just waiting for the ground to warm up more this Spring and then I will plant this seed. I have had a hard time finding a seed for dense shaded area so I am pleased with this one.

I am looking forward to a beautiful lawn in my backyard!.

We ordered these seeds to help get grass growing on a hill under some big oak trees. These patches have been impossible to grow anything on due to the lack of sunlight. Regular grass seed does absolutely fine on every part of the yard except here.

Hopefully this blend of seed will hold up over time. The mix includes: 38. 5% Fairmont Chewing Fescue, 20. 01% Exacta II GLSR Perenial Ryegrass, 20% Man O’war Perennial Ryegrass, 10% Chorus Creeping Red Fescue, and 10% Sword Hard Get with 0% weeds and 1% inhert ingredients.

I got this Greenview Dense Shade grass seeds for the yard area under my trees that barely get any sun because the trees are close together and very shaded. After about half a month the grass started to grow a little bit but very slowly so not sure if it’s waiting for warmer weather to really do its thing or my area is just way too shaded.

The grass isn’t as thick as well, so again it might be waiting for better weather and my timing isn’t right for growing grass yet. It does seem to grow better than the other grass seeds I’ve tried in the past so I’m hopefully by summer time that area will have grass.
