20 Best Fence Post Solar Lights (2023 Updated)

These are the best path lightsyou can buy. The difference between these lights and the ones you can purchase at Lowe’s or Home Depot is that you can replace the bulbs without replacing the entire light.

The cheaper path lights have integrated bulbs which means once they burn out, the entire light has to be replaced. The VOLT lights may cost more upfront but they will last for several years. I have had these same exact lights in my front pathway for the past 5 years and they are in great condition.

The only thing you have to replace is the LED bulb once it burns out. It’s simple to install and it costs 5. I had to replace the LED bulbs once in the past 5 years. Much cheaper than having to replace the entire path light.

I am very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend them.

I have them on the white color right now. And they look wonderful they set off like a sun ray down the fence. During the holidays I’ll switch it up to the color

Like anything solar powered, theyre not very bright but they work well to add some light to a dark pathway. I mounted them on our fence posts which was an easy process. I have heard from a neighbour that the winter caused them to stop working so I may bring them indoors when it starts to get cold.

These lights were a great find for the price! They put out a perfect amount of light and hold a charge well as long as they get enough sun during the day. Definitely would buy again!

These work great along my fence. I was nervous they wouldn’t provide enough light but that has not been a problem at all. However, I was able to find these cheaper elsewhere and ordered another set from there to finish our project.

1. Not for a 4×4 post. Oops! 2. had to unscrew bottom to get to On/Off switch. Top was glued on. Was afraid I would break it! 3. Directuons? What directions? Final conclusion? We will keep them if they look good.

we know how to change batteries, turn on/off now. Would I buy again? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! There are better choices out there.

This is some of the worst called a cheap Chinese junk we have ever experienced! We left them charge in the daylight all day and they barely lasted 3 hours, I think a Bic lighter lighting a cigarette has a brighter light then the quality of these items! All talk and no walk!.

These are good lamps. I have mine placed on metal tiki torch poles around my patio. Not super bright, but ok for seeing surrounding area. The battery fits a little loose and they tend to stop lighting now and then.

I used foil to reinforce the contacts. They work ok.

Very happy with these solar lights. They fit nicely on my new deck posts that have a pvc sleeve. As the directions indicate, I didn’t need the lower bracket. The screws help to secure the light against folks tipping them off by accident.

They light up at nightfall and last well past 2am thus far. The rechargeable battery is replaceable down the line when needed. Light is a soft white that nicely glows to gently illuminate our deck area.

I would buy again if needed. Our neighbors like the look of them too.

I’ve always had solar lights on the top of the posts of my railing. The last ones were plastic and after a strong wind came though one of them flew off and the “glass” cracked, which was plastic also.

Time for new and better ones. I saw these on the Builders. com website and, even though they were a bit more than I really wanted to spend, they are so worth it. I had gotten 4 of them to cover the caps at the top of the stairs and at the corner of the deck.

They give off just the right amount of light. They’ve worked since the day I installed them, right out of the package. Very easy to install, 2 screws to put them on the posts. One of the BEST things about them is they are made of Aluminum, these won’t be going anywhere.

They also come with the batteries included in the package.

I bought 25 of these to go around my new deck. They are nice quality to start and worked very well for one season. They started to dim and only two of the 25 work. These are not expensive if you only buy a few but I bought 25 of these.

This is so much money for four months. I changed out the batteries with the same battery and the bulbs are not replaceable. They can’t be fixed. Do not buy these lights!.

I have 4×4 posts on each corner of my raised bed gardens. Some of them have similar solar lights like this. I purchased them several years ago, though. This is a definite upgrade as this light feels sturdier and seems like it charges with less light and is more efficient.

I imagine technological advances in solar lighting has come far in that time, so it makes sense. The lights screw directly into the pole and are really attractive. I have an itch to replace all of my lights now.

I am not sure of the brightness of these lights as I did not install them on our posts. After unpacking, I realized then they are not what I want. We have 4″x4″ vinyl posts and I assumed they would fit snugly.

We are in a high wind area and I needed them to be sturdy. They fit up to 5″ posts through the use of spaces. Even with the spacers, the 4×4 post fit was loose. I expected, and need, a snug fit. I am returning these for a refund and hopefully can find something else that meets my needs.

My wife bought these for our Regal railing post. Assembly is very easy and they look very nice too. My criticism is they are accidently removed easily. I had one installed close to the gate and a visitor accidently bumped it off.

No harm, however that was concerning. My fix was to drill with a 1/16″ bit and fastened with small screws to prevent this from reoccurring. I read the only other review and will monitor the outcome on a long-term basis.

They are pricey.

I really love the appearance and sturdiness of this product. This would be a 5-Star except for one downside. The opening between the top cover and the transparent sides are just wide enough to let in Earwigs – my most despised insect.

They seem to repeatably find there way in and soil up the reflective surface with droppings, shell molting and whatever else they do.

Purchased these glass cap lights for my fence posts. The squirrel were chewing holes in my vinyl caps to sharpen their teeth, and they started looking bad. I knew I wanted glass of metal to keep them from chewing through.

These not only look great but are a beautiful subtle decorative accent along the fenceline. The only things I would recommend, is to have metal on bottom where you screw onto the fence. The plastic just doesn’t seem sturdy enough to last for years.

Also extra screws would help, since they are going on a fence post. I lost a couple falling on the neighbors side. Earthen was a great company to work with. Got the product to me promptly. I will recommend them, and will use again!.

Misleading product details. The seller advertised it : as Classy Caps WG322 Wellington Solar Post Cap – 2 Pack/Stained Glass. However when the product arrived we only got 1 pack. Now we complained to the seller but they already updated their product listing and refused to send us the other pack.

I love the Solar light portion of this fixture and the glow which has a green cast due to the green in the stained glass. However the instructions for affixing the collar to attach it to the post was hard to follow and the screws to attach it with should have been black to blend with the collar rather than silver which totally cheapened the look.

I painted the screw heads black and it looked finished. Also, it would be nice to receive at least an extra screw or two.

This is my 3rd set of lights I have a vinyl fence. I placed a light on each post. The first two sets are almost 2 years old. The lights adds a simple and affordable decor to my yard without costing lots of money.

I have only had to replace the batteries once in the older two sets. Yes, the batteries lost their charge but that was my error. I honestly didn’t realize the batteries needed to be recharged. I have since purchased a battery charging kit.

The vinyl on the first two sets of lights have obviously turned colors due to being exposed yo the air. But it’s nothing that makes the lights look unpleasant. Like any other light, the lights does attract bugs but since the lights are in my yard, it doesn’t bother me.

I live on almost an acre of land. The third set of lights came with a base to mount to a flat surface. So even if the light stents being used to a posts, with the added removable base, you can mount the lights to something flat.

I would highly recommend these lights.

These lights are not worth the money. I purchased 12 for my deck last fall and noticed within weeks that a few were not staying lit. There is no warranty. I purchased 4 more on this order as replacements and already have used 3 of them.

The sensor on top is not waterproof and 2 more have a film on the solar panel. I will eventually have to replace all of them with a better product.

I’m glad I did my research after making the mistake of buying 8 of these from Home Depot but their packaging was milseading. Theirs fit on wooden posts that are under 3 ‘. These fit on post rails that have the 4 inch white sleeve very nicely.

Look really great on deck rails. For the same white ones that would fit over 4 inch sleeves at HD, cost $22 a peice. These total just over $12 a peice. Buy these from Walmart you won’t be dissapointed.

These are very nice looking and work quite well. They definitely make the posts at the bottom of our front porch steps look so much better and the whole effect is super flattering!

This solar cap did not fit my post on railing. My measurement is 2 12. This fit to large. Product was of good quality.

The design and look of the lantern is nice. Although the plastic construction is a bit flimsy and the price is a little too expensive. It would be nice if the light output was little brighter. Overall its a good light.

My son built a small outdoor deck in our backyard, installed these lights on each of four posts and even with the minimal amount of sunlight the lights receive they have worked flawlessly.

Good product lights deck enough to see but not attract lots of bugs. Twist connects top and base could be alittle tighter.

I started by ordering one light and seeing how it performed in various locations (less sun to more sun) and to ensure I liked the color(s). After 2 weeks of testing I decided to order lights for the rest of the deck except the stairs that receive less than 6 hrs of sun (in April).

On sunny days (in Apr-May so far) the lights will come on at dusk and last until dawn when set at the highest light settings. On a rainy day, they will shut off at some point during the middle of the night, but definitely last for the hours you’d want to use them.

I have not experimented with setting the lights at lower settings, but I imagine you could set them a few levels lower and get longer output if that was truly important to you. They are definitely bright enough that you wouldn’t really notice a big difference between a couple of levels of brightness.

From a color perspective, the white setting still feels warm, so we’ve stuck with that. I am replacing existing post caps, so I’ll plan to switch them in winter when I don’t need the lights to help preserve the batteries.

Installation was easy and I’m happy I didn’t need to retrofit Trex hardwired lighting to achieve a great look. Lastly, from a service and delivery perspective, Ultra Bright Tech has been great. There was a mix up with my shipping and they proactively contacted me and refunded the difference.

I bought 12 of these lights for my new trex deck. I first ordered 2 to see how they looked and worked in my situation. They are very well made, and although they are a little pricey, you usually get what you paid for.

These are very high quality and look like they will last a long time. I have a large LED light that shines down on my 650 sq ft deck and was concerned the Solar lights would not come on at night. Customer service recommended I buy 2 and try them first before ordering the 12.

That is what I did. Every night for a week I moved the 2 lights to different areas on the deck. They come on perfectly and I am very pleased. Now just waiting for warm weather to install the other ten.

When searching for products to assemble a new mailbox and post for my mother, she and I both wanted to put up something that would stand out and not look like every other bland mailbox you pass by. For some reason, she was very displeased by the thought of having to put numbers on the box.

She felt like it was defacing the box already and taking away from its appeal. I expressed to her the importance of people being able to find their address, especially if emergency services were called and had no idea where they were located.

In an attempt to sort of “beautify” the numbers, I thought it would be nice to have a post light that would shine down on and illuminate floating metal numbers placed vertically on the post. I had seen solar post lights at the “big box” home improvement stores, but they were all sized to fit a standard 4×4 post (actually 3.

5″x3. 5″) and the mailbox post we had chosen was a recycled plastic/vinyl post which was not a standard size (4. 25″x4. 25″). I also wanted to find a light that I felt would be durable and last for many years without much need for attention.

My searching led me to the Trex post lights from Ultra Bright Tech. They were a bit pricier than others I had seen, but they were the closest fit to our post and the reviews were very positive. I was looking for a quality light after all, so the extra cost was also to be expected.

So I finally purchased the light from Ultra Bright Tech. WORTH EVERY PENNY SPENT! We love the light and it adds such a special touch to an often overlooked part of the home that just sits, mostly forgotten, at the end of people’s driveways.

The lights are BRIGHT, which I was also trying to achieve as much as possible with a solar light since running a low-voltage line to the mailbox location would have taken a great deal of extra work. We have kept the light on at brightness level 5 (out of 7 steps) and so far, even though it was installed at the start of summer with longer days, the light has lasted the entire night, every night, even following mostly overcast and rainy days.

Compared to other lights we have outside that operate with a photocell, this light activates much later than the others, so you can tell they have put a lot of thought into the design in order to maximize the time the light is on at night by having the light turn on just a bit before it gets too dark to see.

Even though the light waits for a very low level of light to turn on, extremely well-lit nights by a full moon and a rather bright security light on my dad’s shop that is close don’t deter the light from remaining on.

The many different customization settings of this light is just the cherry on the top of everything else. There are seven different brightness levels and three colors; white, amber-yellow and deep royal blue, Changing the settings using the magnet is straightforward and just clever.

We leave the magnet attached on the inside back of the mailbox for easy access (and to avoid it getting misplaced in some drawer in the house). Bottom line, even with the growing popularity of these types of solar lights with improvements in solar and battery technology, you’re not going to find lights as unique and well-built as these.

I would and have recommended them to people every chance I get and my mother has received several compliments on the light, as begrudging as she was about putting it and the numbers on the box to begin with.

(A quick note, I sadly have no pictures of the final product with numbers installed, but I did have several of the mailbox with the light so you can see how the project turned out!).

I ordered 2 batches of these because after I received the first ones I thought they looked really nice, plus they were bright. They were easy to install and lit up well. BUT, after we had a hot spell with 100 degree highs for several days, I noticed some of the upper black plastic had warped.

A solar light that can’t take the sun??? They are still lighting, but of course they don’t look good. And I doubt they will last long since they are not intact and as water repellent as they should be.

I wish they allowed for questionable when rating for quality. If you don’t live where the temps reach 100, I doubt you would have this problem.

So they are not actually for wood post, they would fit vinyl posts. Light is a bit flat and dim but the look in the day is sharp.

I have 2 of these first and last initials. One has lasted for a long time now, I have only replaced the batteries once. However the other same initial has stopped working, I have bought another and same thing.

I don’t know why it will not light. When I replace the battery it lights up but will not light up outside. It gets sun, is only 3 feet from the other which lights well and always has. I do not know or can figure out why that one will not light up outside even with a new battery.

I put these around the bottom part of my decks and flowers in between them it is beautiful. The lights makes it perfect.

We love the concept of having our initials on lighted porch caps, however, this particular item doesn’t seem to be “solar” as much as constant on. We still like it and are ok with having to change the batteries but wish it would work.

Not sure if we’re doing something incorrectly or what. But we like the design.

Not sure why they call these fence lights but I used them on my deck. I recently replaced my wood railing with vinyl, so wanted something I didn’t have to wire or screw holes for. These are great, and work as advertised.

The provide a nice white color, although like others, they aren’t real bright. Each light contains two small bulbs, but to be honest, it’s perfect for a deck. What surprised me most is how long they stay lit.

They go on at night, and are still lit at 5AM! Instead of screwing the mounting brackets I used heavy duty double faced tape. We’ll see how that works once it gets in the 90’s on a regular basis. Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased!.

I installed them on the top rail of a 6 foot high Vinyl fence over the center of each 5 foot wide panel and they look exactly like the advertised picture, all the way down to the ground. They were also extremely easy to install.

(Two screws) It really makes the fence look professionally lit in the dark. It also shines enough light to help illuminate a dark section of the yard. Not to say it is like flood lights etc. But, you get enough light to see any movement in the yard, between the house and the fence.

I liked the first set so much I opted for another set to cover all 7 panels of the fence. At this point I couldn’t say anything about longevity, only time will tell. But. they are advertised to run 8 hours on a 6 hour full charge.

So far they have gone on in the evening around 8 PM and are still on brightly shining at 6 AM. (10 hours Plus) I would take a picture but it is a bit tricky for me to take a picture of lights in the dark.

I bought several of these for the back fence on my property, and I liked them so much, I bought several more. The rear corner of my property does not permit a great deal of sunlight during the day, but enough for these to burn through most of the night.

They are small. produce enough luight so that if you use them as a group, they will illuminate a dark area with no need to run electrical power, just attach them to a fence or whatever you seek to illuminate.

For the price and the results, these are excellent purchases.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting a solar light for their pillars. They provide a lot of light and look great! I’d been searching for just the right light for awhile and these fit the bill.

When I learned they were on back order, I was a bit disappointed, but I liked them so much, I waited for them. A friend asked where we’d gotten them and I gladly gave him your website, so you should be getting an order from him soon.

I bought two and let them charge turned off as directed. They stay lit from dusk to dawn producing a lot of light. I sit mine on small tables on the front and back porches and like being able to move them to different areas.

Also, if my power goes out I can bring them inside. One lamp would light up a room as it is equivalent to 40 watts.

These are absolutely gorgeous on my deck! They aren’t very bright though, even though I have 6 of them. So if you are looking for something to light the way- these aren’t it. But if you are looking for ambiance- then these are it ).

This is something I wish I had not ordered, very small. Looks like something is missing on the bottom. These are plastic, one of the metal rings on the top is bent. Also, they will not light up. This was a waste of money!.

It looks fantastic on my deck on either side of the stairs. Even my husband commented on how great they look.

The solar type fence post light is a must buy if you want to enhance the look of your fence posts or deck posts. They are long lasting and is wind, water, heat and cold proof. I highly recommend this solar light.

Bought 12 Classy Caps and after a month 5 of them would go out after an hour or two. Tap on them with your hand and they come back on for a short period of time. This seems to be a manufacturing flaw somewhere in the production process.

Love them, but you need to fix this issue. I’ve ordered more to replace the bad ones, but don’t anticipate buying anymore if they new ones fail.

These lights fit well on our vinyl fence posts. Set up was simple, just two screws to secure to the top of the post. Lighted on four sides, they emit a good amount of light. We ordered 11 but one was not working even after 3 days of sun but the company replaced that quickly.

They really are a nice accent light for our backyard.

I’ve had 8 lights for 5 months. They look like a high quality light, but they don’t stay lit as advertised. When In full sunlight all day they stay on for 4-5 hours after dark. not 12 hours as advertised.

Very disappointed. Build. com was very responsive when asked to replace the worst 2 lights ( stay lit for only 1-2 hours). Unfortunately the replacements aren’t any better than the originals.
