Best Feeding Schedule For Cats (2024 Updated)

This feeder was easy to setup. It is designed to serve four or five meals. The frozen cold packs in the bottom kept wet canned cat food cool for 4 hours, and if I’d refrigerated the food before filling the feeder it probably would have been good at 6 hours.

Dry food would probably be good for days even without the cold packs. The digital timer is simple to set. Whatever time you set, it will turn the feeder bowls at that time every day, so you can have it turn once a day or up to four times on one day, or each day.

It takes three AA batteries. I don’t know how long those batteries will last so I’ll probably make a note to change them every month or two. My cat had billious vomiting syndrome, which means that when hungry the stomach acid builds up and they throw up, before meals.

He would be okay in the daytime but overnight would be too long and every morning I would come down to find he’d thrown up before breakfast. (Leaving out dry food didn’t help, for some reason) Setting this timer up with a small meal to be served an hour before breakfast helped him make it through the night and saved my floor.

My kitty Ollie is so food obsessed that I can’t just leave a bowl of food out for him like I have my other kitties in the past. Ollie would eat every morsel in the bowl that had been intended for the whole day in 30 seconds and barf it right back up.

So I have had to feed him many small meals throughout the day for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, for this reason I haven’t been able to leave unlimited food out for him when I go to work, so he is always very hungry after not having eaten for 8 hours during my work day.

This month I have an amazing opportunity to go to a full time 2 week training course I am really excited about, however, it requires me to be away from home for 13 hours due to a long commute on top of the training.

Being gone that long is way to much time between meals for Ollie, so out of desperation I looked for options and was excited to find the Cat Mate 500! Wet food keeps Ollie feeling full much longer than dry food, and this is the first and only feeder I found that has ice packs that can keep the food cold and fresh for an extended time.

I actually divide soft food into serving sizes and freeze them for meals for the 3-5 meals just to help keep things extra fresh and cold so they have time to thaw during the day. (I don’t freeze the first and second meal since he’ll eat them fairly soon.

) I have used the feeder all week and it was worked AMAZINGLY WELL! Now I can go to my extended class knowing my kitty is happy and well fed through out the day 🙂 Such a relief! I will continue to use this when I return to my regular work schedule so he can continue eating frequent small meals when I’m gone.

This is an answered prayer seriously! I had bought him another brand of dry food programmable food dispenser last year but he just kept knocking it over and getting into the food no matter what I tried and that didn’t work out well at all.

But Ollie hasn’t been able to get into the cat mate 500 so it’s a big win! I was nervous he would try to get into it just like he did with the other brand of feeder. He actually did try to get into it for the first 2 days but he wasn’t successful and eventually he realized it would feed him so he has gotten used to it and everything is peaceful.

The timer was a little tricky at first because it was doing something a little weird and glitchy but it has been working find now all week. I couldn’t be happier!.

I purchased two of these C500 cat feeders to handle overnight and early morning feeding of my four cats (two Siamese, a Manx and an orange tabby). The C500s have been an absolute blessing. Now that Chewy is stocking replacement C500 ice packs, coupled with their reasonable return policy in case these auto feeders are not working out for you, there is no reason to buy this product elsewhere.

I have zero negative things to say about this product in my application. It works, and works well, IF you FOLLOW the following two recommendations: (1) READ THE MANUAL. It is not hard to program and use this product at all, the multi-language manual is excellent and very clear.

Just take the time to read and understand it regarding how to use the timer programming buttons. I found that the first one or two times I needed to have the manual in front of me, after that, I could handle the programming without the manual (fyi: I am 62 years old).

Do not be discouraged by other reviews disparaging how hard it is to program, it really is not IMHO, if you take the time to read the manual. (2) Pay attention to the following, which is listed in the manual and embossed on the hub of the rotating dish: “Important: DO NOT ROTATE BY HAND”.

I cannot stress how important this is, as failing to adhere to this can result in damage to the gear mechanism. It is easy to align the dish position to the mechanism, and if it does not align, it is a simple matter to adjust using the ADJ/SET and the UP arrow, which aligns it electronically without damage.

Just remember, NEVER EVER rotate it manually. It is my opinion that many of the complaints and disparaging remarks made about how this product performs can be traced back to someone not following this advice.

Once the gear mechanism is ruined because of manual rotation, it is ruined. That is the fault of the user and not the product in my honest opinion. The manufacturer has gone over and beyond to make this advice overwhelmingly clear.

My cats do not try to break in to the feeder, and the size and depth of the bowls do not seem to pose any type of impediment to the cats getting their heads in the bowls. This product just works, and is worth every penny in my opinion.

If you just keep the two tidbits of advice above in mind, you will have a great experience just as I did.

We have 5 very different cats with different tastes and we feed an additional 5 feral/outside kitties. We constantly give them all a variety of wet foods to choose from…. high quality food down to the supermarket brands.

There isn’t a brand or flavor they haven’t tried including raw commercial food. Also we never put out only one flavor or brand at a time in case there’s some problem with that batch of food or that particular can, pouch, etc.

So needless to say our cats are use to new and varying foods. Some brands they like, some not so much but they generally don’t have a severe aversion to every flavor of a particular brand of food. And at least one of them will always like a flavor the others didn’t.

We bought two different sampler packs of this Honest Kitchen food, so 8 flavors/types in all. I had high hopes as the ingredients were good. I also liked the soup box style packaging which I thought would be less messy and easier to open than cans.

Unfortunately, not one of our cats would touch any flavor of this stuff – not even the ferals that will eat almost anything we give them. They would’t even try any of the flavors. In fact, a family of raccoons showed up one time after the food was rejected by the cats and even they wouldn’t eat it.

Two weeks later we noticed two of the boxes had expanded with gas from what I assume was bacteria inside. These boxes obviously had no leaks so this was very disturbing. We of course threw them away.

This food was a complete waste of money and I definitely don’t trust their safety controls. This is the only review I have ever written about cat food. I really want to ensure cat parents are aware.

We’ve got a boy cat named Begley that will eat most wet foods but not ferociously and a female cat Millie who is a Fancy Feast addict who isn’t very willing to try new wet foods. We switched both to Honest Kitchen dry and wet foods, not tried the dehydrated version.

I’m not shocked they like the dry food. Our boy loves dry food and Millie doesn’t mind what dry food there is she will eat it. But the wet food is out of this world. I have never seen both cats just go crazy for wet food besides Millie and her Fancy Feast classics.

We got the variety pack to see which flavors they like and I can’t comment on them all. The Chicken recipe and Salmon/Cod recipes are a home run and they typically don’t prefer anything other than pate.

So I’m shocked they loved the minced food. Definitely buying again due to ingredients and Honest Kitchens commitment to better food.

I bought this last week and gave some to my house cats and the feral cats in the back yard. They all loved it! I’ve never bought any kind of cat food that all of the cats appreciated. I’ll definitely buy it again for that reason.

However, there are some downsides–one being the price. It wouldn’t be so bad if I only had one cat to provide for, but I have 5. So, this will just have to be a special treat a couple times a year. Also, the container is not easy to deal with.

Some of the food comes out when I cut it open, which can lead to a small mess. The consistency is a little thick, so it’s hard to get all the contents out. I end up having to scoop out the rest with a spoon.

It’s just not a cooperative container. I always have to wash my hands afterward. Maybe it would be better if it came in a squeeze bottle like ketchup or just a regular can of cat food. I would give it 5 stars based on the cats’ absolute adoration, but I’ll only give it 4 stars because of the price and container.

I have a tiny 7 lb 10 yr old rescue Bengal Cat who was brought into the shelter by the owner half bald and starved (from what the Foster Mom told me) turned out to be a severe allergy to Chicken (causing diarrhea pand runny eyes) and other health issues.

It took 6 months in Foster Care for her fur to grow back in enough to cover the pink & recognize her as a spotted Bengal, and many (most?) of her teeth were reabsorbed or pulled by the vet. Her tail is bonier than my finger and looks like a long bee stinger.

But other than that, she is a totally little cuddlebug that melts into my arms when picked up, loves to explore & play, and is VERY fiesty. She needed a very clean and healthy diet to rebuild her immune system, muscles, fur, and liver function.

Almost all Cat foods, even Seafood flavors, have some form of Chicken as their 3rd ingredient, and a ton of cheap starchy fillers. A wild cat’s diet is only 2% carbs (mostly from whatever is in Mouse guts) and high carb food just feeds all sorts of feline diseases, so I minimze feeding cat chow.

Problem is she LOVES chicken and human food, and finding a flavorful and healthy Chicken-less high protein cat food she would consistantly eat has been difficult. She would scarf down a new food 2 days, and as soon as I bought a case, she wouldnt touch it.

She also then would not eat whatever previously liked food I mixed into it. Most of these foods were $2-$3 for a little 3 to 5. 5 oz can, and she was either eating 2 or 3 per day or it was ending up down the disposal if my other spotted cat also wouldn’t eat it.

The Wellness is liked by both cats, healthy, Chicken-less, and only $3 for a 12 oz can. One reviewer said she found nematodes in the food. 4 out 5 animals on earth are Nematode worms, and a handful of soil has thousands (so raw vegans probably eat millions).

There are 20,000 different nematodes, and many (most?) are less than a. in size. So is it a concern? Only if it is live roundworms, but no one has found those in canned food. As for the people comparing Wellness to Friskies (or even Purina), and ignorant of the cheap ‘filler’ ingredients plus ‘meat by-products’ (scrapings off the slaughterhouse floor) will only result in high vet bills for years in the end when the kidneys start to fail, stones build up, cancerous growths need surgery, and/or diabetes sets in.

Being an ‘Active Senior’ and hating going to the doctors for aches & pains myself (and always a ton of blood tests since Docs have forgotten how to do clinical diagnosis) only to find out it has no cure in Western Medicine, I want to make sure my cats are healthy and remain Active Seniors, too.

Vetinary is actually more advanced than human medicine, since researchers could kill and open up their sick test subjects. A farmer would not want to spend $500 in vet bills on a $200 pork-pig, so cures had to be inexpensive and effective.

The farmer would also have their Vet sacrifice a sick pig and have it examined up close to save the herd from an illness. Pediatricians can’t do that. So bottom line: Learn about nutrition & health, & feed your cats high quality foods like Wellness, even if it is not something you would personally find appealling.

You can experiment on your animals, too. See how a nutritious organic near-natural diet compares to chow (cereal based) or prescription diet full of GMO grains full of gluten & RoundUp. Then see how little things like cutting out dairy (a hormone-filled baby cow food, designed to quickly create big cows) improves your own health.

I was quite excited to receive this kitty VoxBox free from #Wellness and #Influenster just in time for my Ocicat, Kopi’s 17th birthday. Kopi has gotten a bit picky about what he will eat as he’s gotten older and mostly subsists on a diet that I don’t love nutritionally, but that he loves.

If he will eat it, he gets it is the new Kopi feeding rule in my house. Kopi thoroughly enjoyed this pate canned cat food. He is a bit strange sometimes he likes pâtés sometimes he doesn’t. He also prefers his canned food microwaved for exactly 8 seconds.

I have had to find an alternative to the food that was endorsed by the adoption organization because of extreme shortages and supply chain issues with the brand I was told to use. We will call it “A brand” as it was the go-to for about 10 months of their lives.

When I expanded their flavors with “brand A” around hat time they eventually began snubbing poultry pate varieties in favor of only 2 available flavors that had a minced texture with the addition of some starch vegetables.

However, when those stopped being regularly available only a couple of months later, I was at a loss what to feed them. I threw away a case worth of abandoned pate that just dried up in their dishes as they ate only dry kibble for a few weeks.

I figured they’d come back around but they were not having it. After some research I decided to try this and they accepted it readily. I am afraid of having the same issues by only having one “go to” brand so I have rotated this into their diet.

At this time I consider this one the best of the bunch because they clean their plates. I am considering trying other varieties of this brand but I will wait until we finish up something else that I want to rotate out of the mix.

The mince is small but it still has a perceivable chunk texture to it. Sometimes my cats remove the chunks and munch on them next to the plate but that doesn’t really bother me. I’m just happy they seem to enjoy eating wet food again.

We have 7 cats. Not super picky but they do all have different favorites. Being cats, I guess that’s their prerogative. Every night before bedtime is treat time, and they wouldn’t let me forget. There are freeze dried chunks, great for batting around and hunting when they get those nighttime zoomies, cat sushi, and a wet treat like these soups.

Again, not every cat likes every treat, but by morning it’s all gone. They’re happy, I’m happy. Luckily they all like the same dry food and those that eat wet food at all share companionably. I get it all from Chewy, couldn’t do it without them with great and no fuss service, right to my door.

It’s a great time to be a cat when you live in Chewy times.

My cat loves these things. They are the only wet food she will eat the majority of. She is weird and won’t eat any solids in her wet food, so normally just licks whatever I give her dry. Ultimately that is wasteful, so when we found these, I was sold! They have been a great way for me to make sure she is getting enough hydration while actually ensuring she is eating the full contents of the container.

The supply chain’s impact on the availability of these lately has been breaking both of our hearts! Can’t seem to find them anywhere or they are always sold out.

My 15 yr old ragdoll became finicky only wanting to drink the liquid off his food. He loved the juice off tuna even though water and would drink off some gravy from wet food but was never satisfied. Plus costing lots of money (though shelters did benefit).

When I discovered Lil’ Soups, I knew I had found the answer to his cravings. He will practically knock it out of my hand before I can get it to his bowl and is there waiting when I get up in the morning and when I get home in the evening.

Whatever he wants he to keep him healthy and happy in his elder years. Plus he loves the lickables too !.

My cat Maxine is 18 years old. She was experiencing a great deal of vomiting and I could not keep her weight at a good level. The Vet said try different foods. I switched her to grain free foods, both dry and wet.

She has improved greatly but she is a very picky eater. The only canned food that she eats on a consistent basis is AvoDerm. My local brick and morter Petstores stopped carrying this product line. Thank goodness for pet360.

After SERIOUS research on available ready made cat foods, I started my Himilayan kittens on Avoderm wet and kibble at about 10 weeks of age. The benefits of the avocado are quite evident in both of their beautiful, lush coats and the reduced odor of their waste is evidence that quality ingredients and thoughtful processing of the grain free canned and dry have been engineered to produce a food that is healthy, nutritious and palpable.

My cats LOVE this food and I will NEVER feed them anything else. Only issue is that some cans are dented on arrival and I know that is a delivery and not packaging problem.

This is so great for my kitty. I’ve tried all different kinds of foods for her and this one is her favorite. They could chop up the meat a little better, but I think my cat is spoiled because I’ll do it for her.

Great for her coat too! She’s so soft and shiny!.

This works reasonably well for awhile. However, once the battery dies, the timer starts to slow down. You set the timer for 12 hours, and at 5am when it should pop open to feed your cat. there’s still an hour left, and the cat is howling for food.

It’s also not very precise – there are 48 hours on the dial, so you can easily be off by 15 minutes if you’re trying to set it to open at a specific time. Works well if you need it to feed your cat over a long weekend while you’re away; not so much as an every day early morning breakfast feeder.

This is my 3rd cat mate. The previous two lasted me many years but the last one needed replacement. This new one is the best. Much easier to clean. The plastic food bowls have curved corners and seem to be smoother so cleaning is easier.

I am so glad that my existing cold packs still fit! I have accumulated 4 packs which I rotate.

We have made good use of this feeder for overnight trips. We hang it from the ceiling and let the food fall onto the floor for our 4 cats They have fun chasing the dispersed food and it keeps any one cat from gobbling all the food.

In fact, we have developed enough confidence in the feeder to order another one so we can occasionally be gone for two nights, though I still like to have someone come by the house to check on them and be sure the feeders are working properly.

Our only complaint is that the feeders are not designed to be used vertically and the lid sometimes falls off after it opens, but this is not a real problem.

My cats have been on a prescription formula for urinary issues for a very long time. The prescription formula was not kind on their bellies/colons and they were often constipated. They were properly hydrated, but the prescription food was formulated for normal sized house cats but at a healthy weight my boys are 14lbs and 10lbs.

the amount they had to eat to get enough calories was just not kind to their tummies but they were otherwise healthy. It was also making one of my cats obese (the 14# orange tabby has grown to 19#) even though he was eating significantly less than the smaller cat.

It also became so expensive that I absolutely could not afford it anymore and was VERY stressed trying to find a replacement. I just couldn’t find anything that I trusted would protect my baby’s urinary health, with the high quality ingredients and top notch standards of Open Farm.

When I finally found Open Farm I could not believe how affordable it was. My cats love the size, texture, and flavor. It’s very nutritionally balanced so I can feed the larger cat a bit less for a healthy weight loss plan.

He and his vet are very happy. Plus the litter box has returned to its healthy poopy self! My chonky boy ended up having a salmon allergy (he is just a sensitive boy) and while they both LOVED that formula they love the turkey and chicken one more.

Our non-allergic boy is finishing off the salmon formula but he tries to steal his brother’s food if he doesn’t finish his breakfast! It was painlessly easy to do the formula change in the auto ship too.

I was hopeful when I tried this product. I was confident it would be ok having to purchase full order since no “trial” sized options are offered. My cats notoriously eat pretty much anything (wet/dry), as long as it’s not chicken.

Man was I disappointed when they wouldn’t touch the dry. Very weird for my cats. The wet, although I’m sure is very healthy and a great food, comes in these awesome little ethically sourced, cardboard boxes.

The only issue? Pretty nasty stuff (puree’d fish, basically), and difficult to serve without getting it all over your hands, and I had to place it in a plastic bag to refrigerate, or the whole fridge would smell like fish.

I didn’t have a glass container (with lid), tall enough to store it upright and definitely didn’t want it spilling. so my attempt at being a conscientious steward of the earth took a “fail” on that one.

Still. I’m a little weird about my cats and would have worked around this. IF they had liked it. But no go. I think this is most likely a wonderful company doing great things with pet food. I work at a Feline exclusive Veterinary so have a little experience with cat stuff.

For some reason all three of my cats turned it down. I’m out almost $100. 00 and ordered my original food today. I would have been seriously impressed if a trial were offered.

When I was looking for a new dry food, I was being cautious as our family cat (Chico – I’m his primary caretaker since Dec 2021) has been used to the Friskies Chefs bland. This blend of ingredients caught my attention really quick, and I figured I may as well give it a try.

He loves the Salmon Temptation treats, so I figured this flavor, combined with a higher quality should do something. I was glad at the pellet size as it was roughly half the size of those Friskies pellets.

This is easier for him, and I noticed he stopped flinging food pieces around his bowl thanks to this switch up, combined with an elevated food bowl angled towards how he leans in. At the end of the day, he eats this up.

I top this off with a spoonful or two of the chicken broth so he has plenty of flavor in his foods, and he (shockingly) laps up the broth before digging into the dry food. So the next step is to see if I can bring in a rustic wet food, and have him eating great in his elder years.

If you’re considering switch up dry food, for your pet, give this brand a try. Start small and work your way up. Pets have a way of letting us know what they like and don’t like.

My ten year old male cat was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis this spring and my vet suggested that I put him on a low fat diet. Buzz has always preferred to eat dry food, so she recommended this prescription diet from Royal Canin.

As soon as my Chewy package arrived, I opened the bag and put some in a dish and Buzz started gobbling it down. I had spent weeks trying to coax this cat to eat. I also have two 14 year old female cats who decided to taste it too.

All three cats of my cats loved this food. Buzz had been so sick and hadn’t been eating much food at all, but his appetite has returned and his health has improved with this diet. He loves this food and it is all that he eats now.

The formula for these kibbles is new. The old recipe drove my cats wild for more, which wasn’t so good: they would bulk up on kibbles and not eat any wet food. These aren’t quite as attractive, but they’re tasty enough to get eaten at a moderate rate.

That’s good. Because this food has a probiotic in it, my cat who’s on normal food has better bowel movements when eating it alongside the special-diet cat. I’m glad that neither cat will gain weight on this food, which was the problem with the earlier version.

My cat started developing issue with his constipation last year and we have tried to change his diet. We tried dry food, can food with pumpkins purée in it, and wet food vet recommended but nothing worked as of my picky cat.

Then one day fried if mine who works as a pet nurse suggested me to try this product and have me some samples. It worked! My cat loved so much and start pooping again and the colour of poo turned dry rock hard brown to wet stinky light color lol we can’t thank enough to my friend who suggested this product.

My cat Sammy has been kind of bored of his food lately, but he really loved this flavor from this brand. He ate this one faster than most food the last few months. I also like how this food doesn’t have anything bad in it.

The brand is a little pricey, so I only got this because I got a buy one, get one deal on these.

My seven month old kitty eats Nulo canned food twice a day, as well as Nulo freeze dried raw food as treats. I also leave out a bowl of Nulo kibble. She’s happy, healthy, and active. The vet commented on her nice coat and good muscle tone.

She has not had any issues with vomiting or diarrhea like cheaper cat foods have caused with previous cats I’ve had.

It’s a very soft pate that my cats love. It contain real proteins and is grain free. I like that I can get the small cans so there’s no waste. My cats are very picky and they really enjoy this food. Definitely recommend!.

I have a chicken cat who won’t defend her food, and a persistent intelligent acrobatic extremely food driven cat. Chicken cat would just let the other cat eat her food, looking at me with big eyes, like “what is happening?” I’d put the facepalm emoji here if I could figure out how.

I got this feeder, and the persistent cat figured out he can sit behind it, stretch a paw out, and scoop food up. while chicken cat sits a couple inches away, watching, wide eyed. Persistent cat also rushed the other cat, pushing her out of the way, and getting in before the lid closed.

Lid would sense movement and open back up. I absolutely love this feeder, but it needed some help. I make feral cat shelters–the kind with a heavy duty plastic tote, shove some straw in, add in a cheap styrofoam cooler and more straw, then cut a cat-sized hole at one end.

I had an extra tote, perfectly sized to fit this feeder plus one cat. Put feeder in tote. All the issues stopped. The intended cat could eat her food in peace, totally protected, and thanks to the shorter length of the tote, her butt blocked the only entry to the feeder.

By the time chicken cat turned around and left the tote, the lid was firmly closed against persistent cat. Persistent cat couldn’t push her out of the way, get behind the feeder, get on top of it. although we DO have a lot of fang marks and general tooth marks all over the edges of the tote lid.

🙂 I 10/10 recommend this feeder, but give it some help if you have pets with boundary/food issues. Stick it in a tote, in a small wire kennel, SOMETHING. We’ve had this set up for two or three years now and it’s going absolutely perfectly.

I have had this product for about 1 month. After extensive research, I chose this microchip feeder over others due to it using the pet’s existing micro chip rather than having to wear one on a collar.

So far, it is working well overall, with some drawbacks. My two senior cats (age 14) are on different prescription diets but were stealing each others’ food when they ate unsupervised. This was affecting and affected by both of their health issues (diabetes, pancreatitis; allergies) and interfering with their treatment.

They had been on a five-opening timed feeder for many years before this but they were no longer sufficient for their needs. Set up of the feeders was surprisingly easy. My cats took about 2 weeks to adjust to the microchip feeders.

The new feeders are helping with the main concern of them eating from each others’ bowls. Drawbacks include that the plastic bowl is light (I had to tape it to the weight tray to keep it stable because its instability scared my cat), the door occasionally got stuck open during training, the placement of one cat’s chip makes him have to lean in farther than he wants to to open the door, and pieces of food fall outside the bowl (onto the rim and under the bowl) and I need to remove them with my hands as the cats are unable to.

Hopefully these design issues will be improved in the future by SureFeed. However, for health issues, these are quite literally life savers for my special needs cats and I highly recommend them for this type of use.

Three cats + two diets = one stressed, exasperated minion (me). These SureFeed widgets were supposed to make feeding time a lot easier. They haven’t – I’ve just traded one set of frustrations for another.

Here’s why: – Even if you’re feeding two cats from one feeder, you still need the rear cover. It’s pricey ($45) and it’s not included, which means each feeder could easily cost about $300. But there’s no getting by without it.

The feeder is poorly designed in such a way that, when the door retracts because Cat1 has triggered the chip reader, the open door creates a gap on both sides. Cat2 and/or Cat3 can get their heads or paws into that gap and the door cannot sense their presence.

– The chip reader randomly decides to reset itself, which wipes the microchip data and the feeder(s) stops recognizing the cat(s) you assigned to it. A couple of times a week, I have to reset the feeders to factory default, set them up to recieve new data, and introduce each cat to the right feeder so the scanner will pick up the cat’s chip again.

It is maddening. – Each feeder needs 4 C-type batteries and they can’t be rechargeable. (seriously? In this day and age?) Believe me: if any other microchip-triggered automatic feeder worked, I’d try it.

Despite the fact that I’ve sunk about $1000 into the current setup (feeders, rear covers, batteries, and stainless steel dishes).

I received this for free from Wellness Influenster in exchange for my honest review, so here it is: I have 2 cats, a 1 year old 9 year old. Neither of them are a huge fan of this cat food. I followed the directions on the campaign card and mixed the food, a little at a time, and they did eat it.

But that didn’t help much. After 6 days of mixing food I put out 2 dishes, one for the old food and one for this new food. The new food would be virtually untouched while their old food was completely gone.

At this point they were doing what any good cat does – they would start crying for their food dish to be replenished and knock over the empty dish, still not touching the new food. Now they will eat it if I only give them that food, but they are not crazy about it.

This isn’t the only determining factor in what food I buy them. I also look at nutrition facts. I don’t want tons of filler that is beneficial for their health, but I try to tick both boxes. ☆☆☆ out of 5 because even though they don’t love the taste, it does appear to be nutritious for them.

The real question – Would I buy this for them again? I would but only if I am trying to get my cats to eat less. I know that may sound bad, but they tend to overeat and giving them a food they don’t scarf down may help them to not eat too much.

Cats are very picky creatures. I change up their food quite a bit though still, but have never had them repell the food dish like this when given a choice of 2 different kinds. Still not a total loss though.

First I agree that compared to many other brands, wellness is not that tasty. Here is the way I feed my 5 month 6. 7lb kitten: I give him 1/2 cup of wellness kibbles every morning. When I come home from work, I mix the remaining with 1/8 cup Instinct kitten kibbles which is more tasty but with more fat.

Before I go to sleep, I mix the remaining kibbles with 1/2 3 oz wellness canned food. He loves canned food the most and will finish all of them. Why do I insist wellness even when my kitten is not that into it? Because ingredients come first to me.

I like the ingredients of wellness and price is reasonable. My kitten was with less muscle compared to other kittens at the same age when I adopted him. I changed his kibbles from a cheaper brand to Wellness complete health and now wellness core.

His weight increases around 2 lb/month. He is now full of energy and his fur is shiny and soft. I believe wellness contributes a lot. I plan to rotate the food like 3 times per year. Wellness would definitely on my list.

I was so impressed with this kitten food! I started incorporating the food in with their other food to where they eventually were just eating this full time. I have 5 kitten and the momma cat and they had no stomach issues at all.

I was very impressed with the ingredient list too. When I say this stuff has no fillers, I mean it really has no filler ingredients! The kibbles were small enough and shaped just right that I felt it was far easier for the kittens to eat.

I would recommend this to literally anyone who has kittens or a breastfeeding momma cat. I went and purchased a new bag when this one ran out. Also, the can of kitten food I also received wasn’t as big of a hit for them as the dry food.

I don’t think it had anything to do with the brand being unappetizing, but more that it had to do with it being a pate, which my cats aren’t used to. I fed them meaty chunks or shreds, so I think this threw them off a little.

But it seemed like good quality to me.

My cats who are 12 & 14, were eating Royal Canin aging 12+ that I ordered from Chewy and loved it. Then both their kidney levels were somewhat elevated so my Vet said I should get Royal Canin Renal Support E, so I did.

Plus the hard food A,F,& S. They prefer the A for Aromatic, so it must smell and taste good to them. They are eating more vigorously now and time will tell if it helps. I had a cat with kidney disease years ago and fed her k/d and she lived two years beyond her diagnosis.

So I have faith in this food. Chewy was great. It was delivered within two days like clockwork and I had no problems. They are a better deal than the other pet food stores and have great customer service.

I thought I could get this food at those other stores but their inventory was spotty and Chewy was there when I needed them.

My cat has had onset kidney issues for 6 years now. He did very well with a different kidney food for quite some time and one day just walked away from it and never went back. He was off of his special kidney food for 6 months and lost 3.

5 pounds. not good for a cat that was already slight before loosing that weight. We took him to the vet, had some lab work done and started him on a different kidney food before this one and he wanted nothing to do with it.

We were feeling so discouraged and then we tried Royal Canin Renal Support A and he LOVED it! He is slowly putting weight on and he often waits by his dish and meows as it starts to get low on food. His fur is even softer, he’s more playful and content.

We are so happy that we have found a food that can help our sweet furry boy!!!.

I am so thankful for this product! My cats kidneys have been very slowly declining, and I had purchased some “Kidney health” treats to give him every night, but they didn’t seem to help at all. Since declining kidneys make the cat feel extra thirsty, it got to a point where he was frequently over-drinking and then throwing up the water (like a few times per week).

When I got him started on this food, first of all, he LIKED it, which is great because he is a little picky. But he has been on this food for over a month now and he hasn’t over-drank and thrown up water one single time! It is amazing! He seems to be back to a healthy state now!.

We feed our cats mostly canned food. These are nice simple feeders, with dials to set instead of digital settings which can be tricky to program. This feeder comes with an included ice pack to keep food cold and fresh until it opens.

Though it thaws, the food stays fresh. They do suggest that if you are going to leave the food longer than a few hours, to actually freeze the food before putting it in the feeder that way even after the ice pack thaws, the food will also take time to thaw.

I think putting the food in the bowls, cover with wrap, then freezing before putting it in the unit is easier than trying to get frozen cat food out of the can. Each bowl can hold a whole can of food (the 5oz cans) so good for households with multiple cats.

The bowls are easily removeable to clean. I have two of these so I can stagger their feedings. I also would suggest (1) taking the battery out when not in use to keep it from running out unexpectedly and (2) leave a back up bowl of dry just in case the units malfunction.

I don’t expect them to but since anything can happen, better safe than sorry!.

We used this consecutively for 6 days while on vacation. It helped my neighbor from having to come over multiple times a day. The ice pack provided gave piece of mind that the food would be chilled at least until the next feeding.

Buy extra ice packs so one can be freezing while the other is in use. I also purchased the stainless steel inserts for sanity reasons. Nobody has time for your furry children to get chin acne while on vacation.

Honestly, that should be a standard feature in my opinion. For the price and for our needs at the time I would recommend.

I bought this so my cat could have some lunch during the day while I’m at work. I don’t free feed him (or he’d be severely obese because he LOVES to eat), but he was always absolutely desperate for dinner when eating only twice a day.

He’d whine, chew on things, knock stuff over, run under feet, and just cause general mayhem for everyone in the house until I got home to feed him. This little feeder works great! I bought it because it was one of the least expensive options (money’s a bit tight unfortunately) and because I really only needed one bowl.

The dial timer has been very accurate so far and my cat can’t get the lid open. Trust me, he’s tried. The bowl itself is slightly raised and shallow which makes it a good height for him to eat from and his face doesn’t disappear into it.

And most importantly he’s much happier now that he’s been getting a midday snack. My roommates say he’s much more relaxed until I get home. I haven’t needed the ice pack yet, but I’m glad it has one in case I’m going to need to leave his his wet food dinner in the bowl.

All in all I’m very pleased with this automatic feeder.

Love this dry food. The ingredients seem decently healthy and there are no ingredients that sound questionable. I had a cat that was allergic to something (we couldnt find out what) but we wanted to give him a diet that was more meat and more natural to cats in the wild.

This was a good find to give to him in his last years. The outdoor cats love it and go for this more times than the nine lives dry food that my dad buys to also put outside. I also buy the solid gold wet food.

And one cat in particular will take nothing else except solid gold. It was funny the vets we always went to told us that fancy feast/friskies/nine lives is like McDonald’s or crack for cats. When I heard this I started to care more about what I fed my cats.

I want to ensure that they live a long life and to not have it jeopardized by food ingredients from major name brands who are trying to stay afloat. I do the same with my own food. I also noticed with other cans or bags that are of seafood flavor that other brands will throw in chicken meat in before the seafood thats listed on the cans.

Solid gold doesn’t do this. So five stars in my book for that and for having good ingredients, and that it’s grain free as well. Cats don’t need grains they’re meat eaters. But a few vegetables are good too I guess; just feel grains are not necessary and is just an added filler.

Caramel and Taffy were fat cats, someone gave me my first bag and they loved it. I saw they were losing weight, so I continued to purchase ‘Solid Gold fit as a fiddle weight control with Alaskan pollock, grain-free, gluten-free, kibble good for gut health and overall immune support’.

I had a mother & her three kittens since December and couldn’t keep them out of it! they wanted it to. I bought the ‘Indigo Moon, high protein with Alaskan pollock and egg Alaskan pollock, not for diets and nobody wanted to eat that.

But the solid gold, weight control kibble it’s the bomb. Carmel is eating it right now. Lol.

My 3 year old cat is extremely picky when it comes to food. I had her on a different brand that she would eat but it wasnt my first choice when it came to quality. When we got our new kitten and found that she was having some bloody stools, and after ruling out any underlying health concerns with our vet, the vet recommended switching her food.

In order to do this I had to find something that would help my kitten that my picky 3 year old would actually eat. We found that in this solid gold food and we have now switched them over to both the wet and dry solid gold food.

No more bloody stools and my picky eater will actually eat both the wet and dry! Big win for our fur babies!.

Our dog is a selective eater. We have purchased Canidae dog food and she liked it. We purchased the duck grain free dog food and the kibble size was about 1/4 inch pellets. We mixed it with another brand, and she resisted eating it for two days.

She finally ate it and has had two days of diarrhea with gas. I believe Canidae makes quality dog food, so we tossed out the duck and purchased the salmon thinking we would get the 1/2 inch kibble she liked.

I was shocked to see the salmon is now sized like the duck kibble, 1/4 inch pellets. Not what we have purchased in the past. Our dog had not eaten dog food for 2 days waiting for the new food. I set the new Canidae salmon food out and she sniffed and walked away.

Canidae has made changes to their dog food that our dog does not like. We had to go out and buy another food that she ate as soon as we put it down. Other dogs may like the changes ours does not.

My 8 year old persian has high blood calcium levels (idiopathic Hypercalcemia). He failed on the prednisolone. that his internal medicine veterinarian put him on. The steroids really turned my sweet, loving, patient and easy going little boy into a mean, raging bully that would no longer interact with us but instead hid all around the house.

He was irritable and picked fights with his brother. It was Jeckyl and Hyde! It broke my heart!! I weaned him off this awful medication and happened to see another veterinarian for an annual physical and vaccinations.

She recommended this food as well as Royal Canin Satiety canned food. About 2 months after the diet change, not only was my sweet baby back to normal but his ionized blood calcium level went from 1. 88 (Super high!) to 1.

35 (IN THE NORMAL RANGE!!!). He loves both Royal Canin foods and has a healthy appetite. Because I leave dry food out for them to eat when they want, my younger persian eats this same high fiber diet.

My boys are healthy and my home is a happy one again. I highly recommend this diet! My cats have only eaten Royal Canin food all their life. They actually have a nutritionist available for consultations.

I trust this company and love their products!.

Both of my cats have had diarrhea for over a year now and after spending thousands at the vet, we’re no closer to figuring out the issue. At my wits end, I decided to give this food a try. The vet suggests exclusively giving this food but my cats aren’t keen on the flavor so I’m still mixing it with their existing food.

I have noticed their stool solidifying a bit but maybe due to the fact that the food isn’t addressing the underlying issue and/or because this isn’t the only food in their diet, their stools are a very strange and (TMI) almost rubbery consistency in the outside.

Still pretty gross if I’m honest, but they’re easier to pick up and I have noticed less blood and mucus too. They’re also not drinking water like their lives depend on it, which makes me happier. The food is definitely worth a shot but ultimately, we need to get to the root of the issue because this isn’t a cure-all.

Overall, I’m happy with Chewy itself and that they have this food in stock.

My big mega colon cat got into real trouble after Hill’s quit providing its Gastrointestinal Biome dry food. I switched him to other high quality prescription food, but no dice. He spent several days in the animal hospital as my faithful vets and their staff tried enemas and medication to try, and at last succeed, to induce bowel movement.

In the meantime, I searched for a similar food and found this. From its product description and the excellent user reviews, it seemed as if it might be a good replacement for the Hill’s. This has proven to be true — after eating it for more than a week, my big pal is back to having fairly regular bowel movements.

He likes its taste, too, and so do his two non-needy housemates. His bowel movements will never be “normal” litter box activity, but they are fairly easy to clean up and keep him alive and happy. I deeply appreciate the product reviewers before me who helped guide me to this fine food.

I am writing this review in order to help others who may be in distress about their cat’s health. My 5 years old Brtish Shorthair was diagnosed with idiopathic hypercalcemia and beginning stages of kidney disease 16 months ago.

I took her to 3 vets with all tests showing the same thing. She had dropped a couple of pounds so I had her bloodwork run. My cats live to be at least 20 years old so for me this was unacceptable. Ultimately, after a lot of research, I made the decision not to give her the medicine recommended for idiopathic hypercalcemia (idiopathic hypercalcemia means they have no idea why she has high calcium, which in turn was also affecting her kidneys) and opted to try changing her diet first with the blessing of my main vet.

That medicine can damage the esophagus, so I would have used it as a last resort. I was feeding my cats good quality, high protein, no carbs, dry food and changed it to Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Adult Gastrointestinal Dry Cat Food.

I sprinkle her food with their Fiber Response version as well. Both cats hate wet food. so I added Nulo hydrations treats 3 times a day. I also changed to bottled water. Turns out calcium is not regulated in our tap water in California and it didn’t seem to be regualted in the old food either.

Within 4 to 5 months all of her bloodwork came back great. Idiopathic Hypercalcemia and Kidney disease gone! Even my vet was shocked! I just had her bloodwork done again. 14 months later and she is showing the best numbers ever.

So my guess is she could not process the other food well and it was too much protein and calcium for her as well as the boiled chicken we would give her as a treat occasionally. I was resistant to Royal Canin before, but can now say I am so grateful to them.

I do believe it helped save my cat’s life! Food matters and every cat is different.

Moonpie the Diva Cat was pooping pudding for weeks and weeks. Vet ran full gamut of tests which all came back normal. (Hooray for Moonpie!) This pointed to Gastro-Intestinal issues (lower GI. ) Put her on a short course of meds to calm things down and switched to this food.

Now she poops like a normal cat and is much happier. The litter box smells better too. She is very finicky, but she switched over to this food no problem. Well, actually, she really liked this food and decided to overeat the first time (it was mixed in with her other food to make the transition), so she did barf a huge pile of food the first day.

No issues since then! Wish is was cheaper, but all of these veterinary diet foods are very expensive, so this one is no different.

My 9 year old cat, Arya, was diagnosed with pancreatitis several years ago. I tried so many types and brands of dry food over the years which ultimately made her disease worse. Both of my cats have always preferred Royal Canin products so I asked my Veterinarian to prescribe a dry food for Arya.

I just finished the transition from prescription Science Hill to this product. Both of my cats love it because of the enticing aroma and the small sized kibbles. Arya is gaining weight; not vomiting; and energy level is back to normal.

Just wish it was less expensive but we spare no expense for our little fur babies.

My cats are coocoo for Avoderm. One cat begs for avocado when I’m making a salad. All of them clean the Avoderm dish. The plus side is it has NO SOY, so none of them are throwing up since we switched and my one fat cat is losing weight, so they’re getting nourishment w/o overeating.

Their fur and skin is lush. It’s a few dollars more than what I gave them before, but they eat less and don’t puke, so that’s worth the difference. A lot of people don’t realize how bad soy filler is or how many pets and people are allergic to it.

My twin tuxedos have been BB Wilderness kids for their early life — they’re a year and a half now — but suddenly started to get bored with it. Not sure if the recipe changed, but I wanted to try some new food.

We went for Tikki for wet and this Avoderm for dry. This one caught my eye as an equally clean-ingredient food, plus it has tuna and other seafood in it — done and done. It smelled so good to them that they clawed the bag open! Suffice it to say, this kibble is a big win in our house!.

After finding out my cat was allergic to chicken and was going bald. I was told to find food without any chicken. Once I began feeding my cat AvoDerm her hair grew back – she stopped obsessive licking and has not had any more issues with hair loss.

My cats are finicky with most foods and will not touch human foods. They LOVE this brand. Please bring it back!!!.

Our family has always tended toward the bargain cat foods such as Iams and Purina over the years, so you have a better scope of where I’m coming from. I noticed that our two cats we have presently, unlike many of our cats in the past, seemed to have a bit of difficulty with the brand we were consistently getting them.

It had a lot of fillers and grains that were difficult for them to digest, and frequently, it would end in them throwing up, especially when stressed. I suggested that we switch to Wholehearted, as it was similar in price to the cat food we were already getting, and I knew that grain free cat food was frequently better on cat’s digestive systems.

I figured we would give it a shot, and see how they reacted. We transitioned them over to it (Don’t forget to mix the old food with the new food for upwards of a week!) and watched to see how they reacted.

They weren’t exactly thrilled at first, but as we got them totally on the new food, we noticed a few differences. One of our cats, whom had usually spent upwards of 22 hours asleep each day, started having a lot more energy.

She would play eagerly, have greater attention and focus, and her fur was far softer. She lost a bit of weight in fat, but gained muscle swiftly with the new energy. She acts like a kitten very frequently, playing with our other cat and with us far more than before.

To say our other cat has anxiety would be putting it very mildly. His mood balanced out slightly with the new food, and he had more energy as well, playing often and taking far better care of his fur.

He was typically our ‘mess creator’, and since switching to the new food, we have had far fewer instances of needing to clean up after him. All in all, if you’re in the market for a balanced cat food that has a fair quality for a fair price, try out Wholehearted.

I personally have purchased the high end cat food myself, and the bargain cat food with my family. Wholehearted is a good balance between high quality food and low prices. If you want something more specialty, then of course, go for the higher end foods, but if simple and cost effective is what you’re after, give this a try.

My 12 wk kitten had only been fed Baby Blue Buffalo kitten since I got her. Unfortunately during winter storm Izzy the trucks were very delayed and they were completely out of our normal food. I was so worried that my sweet baby wouldn’t eat anything else and worried a change would upset her tummy.

I asked an associate for some help and they recommended this brand. I was hesitant, but with over a foot of snow on its way I didn’t have much of a choice. Surprisingly, my kitty ate it like there was no difference at all! It also didn’t bother her tummy at all, it has basically the same exact ingredients as the BlueBuffalo, and it’s much cheaper! I think I’ll be sticking with the wholehearted brand!.

Wet cat food is preferred over dry, but if youre going to offer a but of dry you need to really pay attention to the ingredients. Best is to have identifiable animal proteins for the first 5 ingredients, so Wholehearted goofs right away with peas, and chickpeas and pea flour being three of the first five ingredients.

They continue with more carbs. The fat content is too low. Raw meats and vegetables and fruits are full of vitamins but the cooking reduces that, so thats why pet foods aack in vitamins and minerals, but many are fat soluble vitamins, so you need good fats to absorb the vitamins, not like canola oil, but good animal fats.

20% is the target amount. If you’re not going to get protein packed dry foods like Ziwi Peak, Orijen or go for raw choices, then these are a better choice than cat foods full of corn, soy and wheat, and the mystery meat by products, and as long as you pick a variety that does not contain the controversial synthetic vitamin k (menadione sodium bisulfite complex.

The salmon recipe does contain MSBC. High quality wet food is better tho. By the way, Peas are a legume, not a grain as another reviewer suggested.

We don’t know her exact age, because she lived in two previous homes before we adopted her. However, our fairly fussy cat was very impressed when we first tried her on the Perfect Fit Adult 1+ Dry Cat Food chicken and salmon varieties and she has been enjoying them for the past few years.

Now that she is getting older, it seemed a good idea to try her on the Perfect Fit Senior version of dry food, so we bought 3 bags on impulse. So far, she has been showing signs of enjoying the new food and although she tends to “graze” throughout the day, she looks very forlorn when she has emptied her bowl before bedtime, so we add a small amount to keep her going during the night.

This is all three of my cats favourite biscuits, used to get them off amazon – 3 smaller bags which still didnt equate to 2. 8kg. The price seemed to double on there so I went on the hunt for a new supplier – which is where the petshop.

No sure why but this food has the cat factor, both our cats love and never tire of complete cat. And one of these doesnt usually eat dry food. Obviously good ingredients are used, and that does reflect in the price, but once tried they will turn away from the competition.
