20 Best External Monitor For Macbook (2023 Updated)

Lenovo was honestly not my first thought when it came to looking for a portable monitor, despite most of our computers and tablets being Lenovo devices that we’re very pleased with – I just didn’t think of them being in the marketplace.

But when I started searching, the ArsTechnica review of portable monitors immediately surfaced the M14 as being one of the best – and we are very pleased with the purchase! The construction is very solid but still slim and attractive – the base is well weighted and the hinges are sturdy, there’s no worries that the monitor is going to tip or fall even when used outdoors in windy conditions.

The connections are simple – just plug the USB-C cable into any device that supports video over USB-C and you’re up and running; and if that device can support being charged at the same time over that port, you can plug your power supply into the M14’s second port and provide power to the M14 and charge your device at the same time with a minimum of cables.

In use so far the display has been quite adequately bright, although we haven’t used it outdoors in bright sunlight (any display struggles there, of course) – and the onboard blue-light filtering is a nice touch in darker use situations.

The provided carrying sleeve (almost like a think felted material) is also really nice, although I’ve cautioned everyone in the house to put the monitor alongside their laptop if they’re carrying it in a bag to ensure the display doesn’t get flexed and cracked.

I purchased this for my daughter as a Christmas present as a second monitor for her Microsoft Surface. She had been using a low resolution USB monitor and this was supposed to be an upgrade. Her surface does not have USB C ports so got a cable that goes A to C to adapt to this monitor.

Bottom line is that nowhere in the specs does it say this won’t work but it doesn’t. Apparently it only works if your computer has the latest USB C ports. The worst part is i tried to resolve this with Lenovo tech support but after several calls and going round and round with no sneered I gave up.

I then decided to return it to Office Depot but they won’t take it back because it was purchased more than 14 days ago. Well even when she opened it for Christmas it was more than 14 days old so they are saying they won’t help me.

So Frustrating! I will never purchase another Lenovo product again and I will never purchase anything again from Office Depot! You can have all my reward point back. You are not a good company to do business with.

I ordered two of these for a triple monitor setup. The display is great, very intuitive to use, support for portrait mode is excellent and they’re the same size as my Lenovo laptop monitor. The small improvements I’d like to see: * I had thought that I’d be able to daisy chain these together with my USB-C power to use just one port on my laptop.

Unfortunately that’s not supported so I need to use two, but it does work great as a triple monitor setup running from two USB-C ports. * The USB-C ports are on opposite end of the ends of the monitor stand.

This makes running multiple cables a little awkward and means the portrait monitor needs to be fed from the top. I would’ve preferred if the USB-C ports came off the back of the monitor stand instead to avoid this.

It would also let me put the monitors into their protective sleeves without unplugging the cables.

I’ve had this monitor now for about 7 months. I bought it back around October of 21′. And sure it is a few years old, it originally came out back in 2017 and a new version has been released since. But I got mine for about $770 out the door.

I was considering getting Dell’s 32 4k monitor for about $950, but after some research. This one was the overall better choice. Better color accuracy, supports 10 bit color dept while Dell’s didn’t and it was more cheaper.

Probably my only gripe is that it has thick bezels, but so what. Once you turn it on and start working, it doesn’t matter, the bezels aren’t something you focus on and the picture quality is AMAZING.

If you’re on a budget and looking for a really good 32 4k monitor, this one is it.

I ended up purchasing the 32 PD3200U after buying and returning the 27 PD2700U. I liked the 27, but due to the way macOS handles scaled resolutions (and lack of system-wide UI scaling) I had to run it at 3840 x 2160-everything was too small-or at 1920 x 1080-everything was *way* too large and I wasn’t gaining much in the way of screen real estate over my MacBook Pro’s built-in 13.

3 display. Running the monitor at any other resolution simply results in too much lag (macOS warns about this-Using a scaled resolution may affect performance). With the 32 running at 3840 x 2160, I get a ton of extra real estate for InDesign and Photoshop palettes without the need to squint.

The color on the PD3200U seems good out of the box (I’ve yet to test the factory calibration), the build quality is great across the board, and the buttons for controlling the OSD are touch-sensitive-no accidentally adjusting the angle of the monitor when all you want to do is turn down the brightness.

And while the PD3200U might look a little dated, it doesn’t suffer from shadows along the left and right edges the way the PD2700U does (I believe this is due to the thinner bezels on the 27 monitor-it was very noticeable unless I was looking at it straight on from at least 3 feet away).

All in all, I’m happy thus far. I can work from home on days that I need to without hunching over my MacBook, and I can fit enough on screen to make a dual monitor setup unnecessary.

Bought 2 of these, and I am using them with Ubuntu MATE 18. 04. I upped the DPI/PPI setting in MATE to 128 (slightly less than the true ~140 PPI of these monitors). I use them for coding and general text-based activities for work-from-home, and they are great for this purpose.

Good color, good controls, and nice clear text from the 4K resolution. I don’t game and I don’t do photography, so I can’t comment on these monitors for these uses, but for text they’re pretty much all I can ask for.

Keep in mind that the monitors are physically large and somewhat heavy. You’ll need a decent size desk if you want two of them (I have them side by side), and you might want to consider VESA monitor arms for more flexible placement and so that the large stands are not consuming desk space.

The monitor (purchased in January of 2021) produces a great-looking image when it works. Periodically, when the monitor has been off for a while and is turned back on, the screen will remain almost completely dark.

If I attempt to tab through open programs, the darkness level will change slightly from program to program. Turning the monitor off and disconnecting the cables for a few minutes will sometimes correct the problem.

The instructions suggest that with the monitor plugged in and the cables disconnected, a diagnostic feature in the monitor will be activated. This feature does not appear until after the monitor is working normally again.

I should mention that I do not use any Sleep features on these computers, but I do use screen-saver features. I disabled the monitor’s sleep feature to see if that might make a difference and it did not.

Dell’s website stated that if purchased at Best Buy, the monitor would need top be brought back there. As I did not purchase any type of extended warranty service, the Ocala, Florida Geek Squad (who were extremely helpful, by the way) wasn’t able to assist me directly, but they did provide me information for how to get in contact with Dell.

I contacted Dell’s customer service department via their chat feature. I described the screen darkness issues to the technician; as I use the monitor with both a Mac and a PC and he recommended that a Windows driver and Mac firmware update be downloaded and installed on the appropriate computers.

After the firmware and Windows driver were installed, I was still experiencing the same issues. I went as far as changing how the Mac and the PC were hooked up to the monitor to see if that would make any difference, and it did not.

I reached back out to tech-support, and informed them that everything has been installed but I was still experiencing the same issues. Tech-support told me that I would need to need to contact Mac support because the monitor was working properly.

I’m not exactly sure how they came to that conclusion but the Dell monitor continues to not work properly. I’m pretty sure that the issue is with the Dell monitor itself; I have an older LG monitor which was going to be replaced by the Dell.

On a few occasions when this has occurred, I’ve immediately disconnected everything from the the Dell monitor and hooked it up to my old LG monitor. The LG monitor works fine… no irregularities with the picture.

This monitor works well for me. I work primarily in spreadsheets and in terminal windows at the command prompt. First the pros. I can see all the columns on most spreadsheets without scrolling. No problems shifting computer input to the next.

Easy to display multiple documents on a single screen. I wish I’d gotten a larger monitor sooner. Cons. Although my Linux laptop displays properly there’s no management software. The windows display management application has limited locations for PBP or PIP.

If those locations and tile sizes dont fit your workflow you”re stuck because you cant change them. I don’t use Windows enough to have an opinion about the templates to arrange windows on a desktop. The advertising copy about the monitor makes it sound like you can drag documents from one computer to another, but its not obvious how it works and undocumented (or I’ve missed it in the documentation.

) I hoped to get down to a single monitor for work, but the minimal Linux support and inflexibility of the PIP/PBP templates killed that dream. I’ve defaulted to simply treating this like a normal monitor with a kvm and swapping inputs between my primary & tertiary work machines with the secondary laptop on a separate monitor.

If you work entirely in Windows and the PIP/PBP templates mesh with your workflow you’ll probably like this monitor. If you work primarily in Linix it’s still a nice monitor, but if you already have a KVM it may not be the monitor for you.

I wish other companies could compete and that Apple would bring some of the XDR’s features to other products like the iMac. Auto rotate is amazing when working in something like Pages, as it gives you so much more room.

The retina clarity at this size is game changing for me. I just wish you could buy a non hyper-bright xdr variant for less. Also, the stand should actually come to the imacs and/or get a vesa adapter such that you can use its stand with other vesa products.

The m1 imacs have a beautiful stand, that is not at all ergonomic (too short). Were it possible, I’d plop a vesa m1 imac on a pro stand for the height. There are stands that have vesa capability out there, they just look like trash.

The pro display is too expensive, but that’s because there isn’t enough competition out there. No other company seems to think retina displays are important, making 4k panels that are too large and prioritize high refresh rates.

Essentially, the market is divided between gamers and bog-standard office workers, neither of which seem to understand or care about resolution. If you work in graphics of practically any kind, this monitor will turn you into Smeagol in less than five minutes as there is simply nothing like it out there (the dell 8k is higher resolution and ppi, but about the same price and housed in garbage plastic).

Oh, don’t buy the nano texture. Look up ebay resale figures for both and you’ll see a trend. For anyone who stares at a screen all day, they are the work truck or shoes – the thing that can make a huge difference in comfort and utility, but is priced that way.

I still have my thunderbolt displays this many years on, only have passed them down to others in the household. Point being – this is a ten year+ monitor.

I did months and months of research between this monitor, some Ben Q’s, Eizo monitors, Asus pro displays, build quality of those products and on and on. Between buttons on monitors, pixles per inch, nit brighness, customer reviews, cable management, icc profile customizations, etc.

Hours and hours of time. In the end I decided to buy this monitor because I wanted something that could give me the best of both worlds between my photography hobby, which I take a little more serious than just a hobby, and being able to change my screen calibrations between photography and my leisure web browsing and other online needs of mine.

Also ease of connectivity and use. This monitor allows for that. Other high end photography monitors have a much lower output brightness (which is obvious to the pro photographer, don’t have to go into that) and are usually meant for just photo editing or video editing with matte finishes.

Basically just a work monitor. There are no buttons on this monitor, which I love! Turns on and off according to my 2019 MacBook Pro computer usage that I have connected to only one thunder bolt cable it came with.

I also use a wireless apple keyboard and wireless apple trackpad to go along with it so that my lap top stays on its stand closed! So the two best things I love about this monitor is its sharpness and it’s colors are beautiful to look at! Working on this monitor is a joy! Editing has become much more fun and enjoyable again.

My photos have a much more better edit than ever before and that’s partly because I was editing only on my mac book pro before. Never the less, this is the nicest monitor I have ever used. It’s so nice just to look at which you’ll be doing a lot of if you’re serious about getting this.

The size is perfect, not too small and not to big. Brightness is adjustable to peaks that you wouldn’t necessarily use, but good to have. I haven’t yet tried any video editing on this since I only use it for photography so I have nothing to report on its dynamic range capabilities at this point so far.

There is one big draw back to this monitor that I don’t like, but is definitely not a deal breaker. It’s the vignetting! If you work as a pro photographer and absolutely need the picture corner to corner perfect while looking at this monitor from all angles, then this monitor is not for you, sorry.

I use Lightroom classic and photo shop, so my photos are always in the middle of the monitor and the vignette is masked by my control panels, so I don’t see the vignette. But while web browsing, I definitely see it around my peripheral.

If you move your head slightly to the corners, then the vignette goes away. It doesn’t bother me enough to not like this monitor or take away a star. My photos are still coming out great. One thing I did notice is the luminance in the oranges pulsating while shifting between the control panel and picture pallet.

This has happened a few times and caught it while editing trying to adjust the brightness. It was oranger one second and lighter the next second and changing constantly. I shrunk the control panel and brought it back out again and it went away.

So that might be a Lightroom cc glitch, I’m not sure. I had to do some customizing, especially the brightness of the monitor. The photography mode that it comes with as a pre calibrated setting is still way to bright.

I had to bring it down to 65 luminance. I did some quick prints at home and photos were coming out too dark at first but the colors came out great. It comes with a list of pre calibrated display settings.

Other high end monitors don’t have the range of calibrations that is monitor can give you although ICC profiles with a color monkey or X-Rite calibrations are not possible at this point, maybe at a future apple update we will be able to.

I have not sent any photos to the lab yet to compare a much better comparison of monitor colors to professional print but will update when I do. According to some reviews the colors are perfect. So another great thing about this monitor is, aside from the power cable, I only need one thunder bolt cable connected to my MacBook Pro for this to work and it’s also always charging my lap top with a trickle like charging that doesn’t diminish my battery life which apple has created in these new laptops.

We live in 2020 and so the compatibility and simpleness is what was another deal winner with this purchase. I didn’t want to have to buy a dock station and some more usb connections and adding my lap top charger etc etc that I would have had to deal with by going with another make and brand.

If you can afford it or make payments on this for a year, go for it. You will not be disappointed! Apple Mac book pros 2018 and newer will give you the 6k display. Older versions of apple will decrease the display settings.

If you want HDR content, then upgrade your graphics card! Oh and the monitor itself is beautiful as well. The bezels are approximately a quarter inch big. And the aluminum and the cheese grater is even nice to look at from the back lol.

It definitely says quality all around! I have this connected with the essential apple vesa mount adapter and using it on a Ergotron 45-295-026 LX Desk Mount LCD Arm. It’s perfect!.

The Apple Pro Display XDR is almost certainly overkill for my line of work (web design), but I needed a monitor and everything else I considered had some dealbreaker; a wobbly stand, cheap plastic build, or spotty compatibility with Mac OS.

Since I use this every day, all day, it was much easier to justify the price, especially since it has zero of the problems I found with other monitors. I do wish I had the opportunity to view this model next to nano-textured glass version before purchasing; it’s an extra $1K but might have been worth it over the life of the monitor.

My only real gripe is that I feel Apple needs a monitor in their line up that’s geared more toward the consumer. Same attention to design and build quality, but maybe not as crazy high specs (and price tag).

A iMac (which happens to come with a 27″ 5K display) is 1/3 the price of this monitor plus stand – it’s hard to imagine they couldn’t make a great monitor based off that panel with a lesser stand that doesn’t rotate.

I’m sure there are a ton of Mac Mini and MacBook owners out there who would love to compliment their computer with an Apple monitor, and I doubt a more mid-range 5K monitor would cannibalize the already small market for this beast.

If you’re in the market for a monitor, and happen to stare at your screen every day for a living, then this is certainly worth considering. Just be sure it’s compatible with the computer you plan on plugging into it.

It’s Thunderbolt 3 only (compatibility here https://www. apple. com/pro-display-xdr/specs/). I did get my old 12″ MacBook to work on it (mainly out of curiosity) but if I remember correctly it wouldn’t be getting 6K resolution.

This monitor until recently was the only Thunderbolt 3 option for a MacPro 7. 1 2019 desktop other than the XBR at ~3X the price. Visually it is a great display but has major flaws. In particular a flaky internal USB Hub.

If other devices are connected to its internal hub, other than the computer it may result in a kernel panic on computer shutdown which manifests itself as a long shutdown delay and either a kernel panic on restarting or a ‘watchdog’ error message on login or both, The LG internal hub also has very limited power capability and over straining it such as charging devices from it may damage the board requiring repair.

This was reported to me by an authorized repair center of my previous unit who showed me a stack of interface boards when I took my previous one in for repair. I took my previous one into repair after it failed after having it for 15 months – 3 months out of warranty.

It was unable to be repaired due to display failure. The only support or compensation I received from LG was a few hundred-dollar check to purchase a new one as the cost of repair was the same or more than a new unit.

While a solid stand it lacks freedom of movement. Horizontal movement is limited and the monitor cannot be rotated into portrait mode. I chose to use the VERSA mount and purchase a StarTech Monitor Stand which allows this.

My advice, should you choose to purchase this monitor, be sure to get an extended warranty; do not use the rear connectors for anything other than connecting to the computer; and replace the stand with one that offers more flexibility.

Purchased the 32UL950-W on Amazon Prime day ’20 to make advantage of the slightly discounted price in combination with rewards points I’d accumulated. This brought the cost down from very expensive to merely expensive.

Opted for this model for two primary reasons: screen real estate and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Also influencing my decision: I’ve a LG OLED 55″ TV that I’m very pleased with. In these times of WFH where home office space is at a premium I use the LG for double duty.

The HDMI input is connected directly to my work issued Dell laptop. I work 12-hour shifts on a rotating, two week schedule so having a high quality display makes it easier to stare at for hours on end.

The second connection is via TB3 to a CalDigit TS3Plus also connected by TB3 to a late-2016 MacBook Pro where I predominantly use Audio/MIDI software as an amateur musician. The 2nd USB-C connection on the 32UL950 is used for a Logitech StreamCam as there is no built in Webcam on the LG.

This is used for FaceTime and Zoom calls with an eye towards doing some live streaming. This configuration allows me to easily swap between work and home by merely toggling between input connections on the LG.

The OnScreen Control app is useful, but I’d already been using Mosaic (and previously Magnet) to manage window layouts on macOS 10. 15. I seem to recall having difficulty running the bundled apps and firmware from the web download URLs and opted to install those from the bundled CD and allow them to auto-updated individually until I arrived at the current versions when I installed the LG.

YMMV. In combination with the MBP, my 50something year old eyes find the 2560 x 1440 setting the easiest to read, but I typically run at 3008 x 1692 as an acceptable compromise between maximizing the screen real estate and readability.

That said, this monitor looks fantastic at 3840 x 2160 which I use on occasion for streaming content. In regards to software the welcome trend of scalable GUI’s makes it easier to use this monitor when running at higher resolutions, but not all legacy software will see this type of update hence switching between resolutions is nice.

Prior to opting for this monitor I’d long considered the very capable 27UK850 (now replaced by the 27UN850), but opted for this display as previously stated, due to the larger screen and TB3 connectivity.

That being said, I’m fairly confident I could have run a comparable configuration utilizing the DisplayPort option on either of those monitors. The lack of a built in WebCam is a concern and I opted for the StreamCam to make use of 1080p at 60fps which USB 3.

0 (on a USB-C connection) accommodates for (at some expense of CPU. ) File under ‘In for a penny, in for a pound. ‘ I’ve run various other USB accessories (Flash Drives and and external LG CD-ROM) from the additional ports on the 32UL950 with no issues.

I appreciate the inclusion of these ports as they can be useful at times. The mounting stand is sturdy and easily assembled and obscures the cables from view, but I’ve a notion my home office desk will be replaced/upgraded at which point I’ll acquire a mounting arm to free up even more desktop space.

I bought this monitor for a MacBook Air running in clamshell mode. Picture quality is outstanding but the USB hub stopped working after about a month. This rendered the USB-C and USB-A ports useless.

I had gotten a message on the monitor that there was too much power draw (had a backup drive and and iPhone plugged into the USB-A ports) and the ports stopped working. When I removed one, they started working again.

A few days later the ports went out again – this time permanently, even though nothing was plugged in other than the Mac on the USB-C port. The USB-C port provided a video feed to the monitor and the monitor provided power to the Mac.

Fortunately the HDMI port was still working, so with the aid of more cables and a docking station, I was able to get it working again. I purchased this monitor specifically for its USB capabilities but there are apparently maximum power requirements that are not well stated in the specs.

Even if these were known, many peripherals (e. g. backup drives) do not provide this information, so the only way to find out if current draws are too high are to plug them in. LG needs to have some sort of robust protection on its USB circuity so that a reset can happen more than one time.

Would recommend against purchasing this monitor for the USB hub feature.

I have been using this for 12 hours daily since Feb 2021 with a MacBook Air M1 and MS Surface Pro. Prior to this I used the 32 in 4k LG Ergo but that was causing me eyestrain. I also got the Dell 4k 2720q which is fine for the price but is also not as clear for text.

The tb3 and powered ports with supplied cables eliminated any need for a dock. It has only glitched once on me but a power off and restart a couple of times fixed that fortunately. I was hesitant to spend this much due to the reports of it suddenly dying on folks but until Apple comes out with a display of their own, its really the only option.

As always, B&H had the best price and service!.

Very sharp. Better color than the first LG I got. Also, better viewing angle. First LG (not a 5k) had poor viewing angle that resulted in screen vignetting if I wasn’t dead on 90 degrees. This does not have that issue.

The stand allows the monitor to go 7 above the top of the stand base. Nice to have the higher range. No ghosting of items on the screen. Had monitor about three weeks now. So far so good. Comes fully assembled.

Just lift out of the box and turn it on.

I just picked up my monitor at Best Buy curbside delivery and couldn’t wait to get it home and set it up. Unpacking it was very easy. It’s just a monitor, the stand, cables, and packing material. I opened the pamphlet to see if there was anything to know ahead of time.

There are pictures, not words, of how to set up. Set up was really easy. the square part of the stand snaps into place on the back of the monitor. There is a little pull clip that you slide to remove the stand from the back.

That sits on top of the pole part of the stand, which sits on the curved part of the stand. It took me a minute to figure out that you have to unscrew the little black scren from the stand before you install the pole part onto the curved part, and then reinstall the screw from the bottom of the stand.

It’s small and screws into place to hold the two parts of the stand in place. No problem there. The power buttom is on the bottom on the monitor. So you just reach your hand under the monitor to push the power button.

This same button is the settings button where you can customize everything. I set the volume, brightness, etc. which was easy. I’m not a tech savvy person at all, but it was easy to figure out which cable to plug into the monitor and my laptop in the USB plug.

What I really liked is that you can slide the monitor up and down easily on the stand to reach your preferred height. I’m tall, like my office chair high, and there was plenty of room to move the monitor up and down.

The built-in sound system is pretty good quality. I tried out listening to music videos, audio files, and so on and the quality is good. Picture quality is great. It looks beautiful. Vibrant colors, no distortion, etc.

My HP laptop is small and it was really hurting my eyes to use it all day for work. And my neck and shoulders were hurting all the time from looking downward. With my new monitor those problems will soon disappear.

As I sit and type my review it’s so comfortable. The screen settings have my text and screen larger than normal and it’s such a breeze to look up at the monitor and SEE everything. My laptop screen flips under my laptop so i just folded it out of the way.

I can flip it back up since the external monitor does not have a built in camera. I didn’t care about that. Finally, this 32″ monitor is big! But I don’t regret buying this size. It makes such a huge difference in my ability to see all of my detailed powerpoint and excel file details without having to zoom in.

Very nice monitor, beautiful screen quality, easy to set up and use, and alleviates eye, neck, shoulder pain. What could be better?.

I recently upgraded to this monitor. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and I am very happy with it. I thought screen on my laptop was good, and upgraded to this monitor for more real estate (bigger monitor), but the picture is so much better than my laptop screen it is like night and day.

I process on average 300 real estate photos per day, and often times much more, as well as several real estate videos per week. This monitor has already improved my work flow and confidence in my final product.

the on board speakers aren’t bad, but I wouldn’t buy the monitor for the sound 😉 I find the multiple inputs to be more useful than I expected. I utilize the HDMI to connect to my lap top and the Display port to connect to my PC.

it is very easy to toggle between inputs utilizing the button on the bottom of the monitor. allowing me to use this monitor on two different machines.

You can get a similar model with same specs for half the price. This product was defective right out the box. It would not stay connected to my laptop and would flicker on and off. It would would for a very short period of time.

I tried replacing the cable and had the same issues. I ended up returning this item 4 days later.

There is always anxiety for me when I buy something based solely on what I see on their website. I can tell you that I purchased it and was able to track it easily all the way to my door. I opened it, plugged it in to my laptop- it started immediately and has been perfect since.

I wish everything in life was this easy.

Setup was very simple and easy (even for a non techy person like me). High quality screen, sturdy stand (easy to make it stand too)), and reasonable price. Overall, an excellent product and would highly recommend!.

True to its name, this monitor is sharp – the image is crisp and clear, colors are accurate, and input lag is acceptable, meaning it checks all the boxes for being a usable monitor. It was recognized quickly and easily via Thunderbolt, both on a Dell and non-Dell laptop, and everything that I’ve plugged into it has been recognized (although to get the LAN connection to work, it did require a relatively recent Windows update).

The picture-in-picture capability, though I haven’t had much call to use it, is also fairly unique, and adds versatility to the monitor. The only thing holding this monitor back is port placement. Although there are certainly enough USB-A and C ports for most needs.

when sitting in front of and actually using the monitor, only one of each is easily accessible – and they still have to be found by touch, being underneath it. If more ports are required, it means going behind the monitor, or having to lift and turn it, to access the others.

If you use them for mouse/keyboard/webcam, it isn’t much of an issue, but if you need them for anything else, it is rather inconvenient, and somewhat against the grain of a hub. Even if it means sacrificing the minimalist bezel, I would have rather had a few type A or C ports available at the front, or even the sides of the monitor.

Attaching a small USB hub to the bottom port would alleviate the problem of inaccessibility, but anything that adds additional ports is specifically discouraged in the user manual (likely because of TB3 bandwidth limitations).

Short extenders would also work, but that would only add to the clutter a setup like this is intended to minimize. A good monitor, and a decent hub, all things considered, but perhaps not necessarily as convenient as a separate monitor and dock.

The presence of a KVM switch and 90-watt USB-C charging got me to look at this monitor and the great colors and impressive black contrast (for an IPS monitor) sold me on it. With my current work from home situation I needed a monitor solution that could run and charge my Dell work laptop while allowing me to effectively use my M1 Mac mini without much effort (i.

e. unplugging the work laptop and keyboard to use my personal computer). Dell’s KVM solution and 90-watt power passthrough works perfectly in addressing these needs. The colors this monitor produces seem great to me.

While having a matt display finish vs glossy took this 10 year iMAC user some time to get used to, I think the overall picture quality is very good. Colors appear accurate and the black/contrast levels seem better than other IPS displays I considered.

While there is IPS glow at times when watching a video during a mostly black scene in a completely dark room (e. g. movie credits), it is nowhere to be found when using just a small desk light during late night tasks.

The unit I received does have very faint instances of light bleed at the very bottom in three (3) locations, again only noticeable when watching video in a completely dark room. Ports, having as decent amount of USB-C ports is a great feature even though just one more USB – C port would’ve been awesome.

Having been a Dell monitor user at work for many years I appreciate this monitor’s joystick control in the back more than I imagined as it makes monitor adjustments that much easier to accomplish. Lastly, the absence of “in your face” branding is a nice touch over previous monitors and really highlights that picture quality is front and center here.

Overall, I am pleased with the monitor and I am glad I switched my original order to this new release while waiting for an older model to be completed.

I purchased the Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Hub Monitor after hours of reviewing specifications and reviews of other monitors. It has proven to have been a good decision, as the built-in hub works well to link all of the devices that I would have had to connect with an external dock and does so more elegantly than would be possible with and external dock.

The quality of image with this monitor is superb: it provides clear and sharp text and impressive detail in video. I find that my eyes really do not tire after extended use: this is remarkable and is a first in my experience, unlike that of any other of the many monitors that I have used previously.

I like the simplicity of the onboard display controls and learned to use them comfortably within a couple of days of setting up the monitor. If I were to have just two wishes to improve the utility of the monitor, they would be having some sort of a legend to the ports that could be flipped down from the bottom of the monitor case to identify the position and type of ports of the hub, and, a standard adjustable screw mount at the top of the monitor to affix a webcam.

The webcam mount is needed because the upper bezel of the monitor is too thin for clamping a standard webcam without partly obscuring the screen and the back of the monitor case is beveled which is unlikely to provide stable clamping of a webcam.

Time from unboxing to using the monitor was minimal as the package and instruction was well designed. I like the Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Hub Monitor – U2723QE more each day I use it!.

I’ve been eyeing on replacing my aging monitor which was slowly dimming out after 7 years. This one was on the list to consider when I saw it on sale for $369. First one was DOA as it simply wouldn’t turn on.

Sent back for replacement which took about 10 days and the replacement came in with tape seal missing and one corner of box taking beating. Thankfully screen itself had no dead pixel and monitor had no visible damage, but it wouldn’t play nicely with my work laptop via HDMI (laptop recognized input, but monitor wouldn’t show anything).

No such issue with other computers. However, upon placing it on my desk, I noticed the screen would tilt slighly to left, just enough to be bothersome. As it doesn’t have rotating function, I tried to reseat the screen but with little success.

As I don’t know if another replacement will fix this issue, I’m adding little wedge under right side to take care of it. Power/Function button is behind the screen and that was inconvenient as I have to reach out behind just to turn it on/off.

Power button should be on the front. No flickering so far. Color from photoshop looks accurate even without calibration.

After just one day of using it on a certain application with slow moving and very limited animations, my eyes went bloodshot, and I now have eye strain so severe I have trouble seeing or having to focus on anything without feeling heavy strain on my eyes.

It’s so bad that glasses do nothing to help alleviate symptoms. I’m also noticing now that it is blurry in general, and the high frame rate is basically useless for anything except increasing eye strain.

The blue light reduction causes MORE eye strain. Terrible product. Almost as bad as the old LG monitors that they had to put on clearance because nobody wanted them. $400 for physically damaging eyesight equipment is unacceptable, whatever the reason.

Also the stand is excessively bulky and heavy. As is the monitor itself, especially for an IPS monitor.

1440p 240 hz with 270 hz from overclock, decent color accuracy, very high saturation, good brightness. A great monitor for all-rounder, especially for gaming. 240hz overrated? not really, I would say it is definitely better than 144 hz, 270 hz? can’t feel the difference, if you don’t want to spend the premium, go with 144 hz, you will do just fine.

Response time wise, this monitor is insane, 2 ms grey to grey, it’s absolutely amazing for fast pace games and not have to deal with VA or TN panels. HDR though, only good for content consumption like Youtube videos, don’t expect anything good from it, not great for gaming, you’d need to go HDR 1000 to get any good experience.

This monitor has G-sync compatible, not actual G-sync, it’s basically AMD Free sync, I honestly find it useless. I don’t really get tearing with capping my games FPS to my refresh rate, or even without capping it and when it run lower than refresh rate, I never got any tearing.

It’s a flat screen, even though it’s IPS I honestly think curved screen will still make this 27 inch so much better, I had 24 inch curved and it’s amazing. Overall, I’d say the ROG Swift version is a better buy for the money, but if you have that money and play stuff like CSGO where you run your games at 200+ FPS but also do media creation as a job and what not, this one is not bad at all.

Upgrade from 1080p people, trust me, it’s a whole lot better.

Great monitor from a top of the line PC hardware company. Highest 1440p refresh rate at 270Hz (overclocked) w/an IPS 0. 5ms monitor. Great for high-end/top of the line gaming, while having good graphics fidelity.

Only games I can get to 240Hz consistently is Overwatch at Medium Settings and 270Hz is RainbowSix: Siege at Ultra Settings of the game I play, currently. Great option as your graphics cards get more powerful, since monitors usually last/go through many generations.

I would recommend it for high-end/top of the line players, but not casual. 144/165Hz is just fine for half the price. I don’t notice a major difference between 144/165Hz and 240/270Hz, but there is one.

If you’re not a high-end/top of the line player, then you’ll likely notice even less, if anything at all. My aim is a little more smooth, but nothing major from the prior mentioned refresh rates. I would stick w/lower refresh and/or resolutions, if you don’t also have high-end/top of the line hardware, also.

1080p is easier to run at 240/360Hz, along w/requiring less hardware power at low-settings.

My unit came with excessive backlight bleed. So I’ll be returning it. However, that’s not the only issue with this monitor. ELMB Sync barely works. It’s greyed out most of the time, and when it works you get a terrible double image effect.

It’s not usable. ELMB Sync also caused my display to flicker like crazy if I alt+tab out of a game sometimes. ELMB on it’s own, without feesync enabled, works alright. You need to open the service menu to adjust the Overdrive though, otherwise you’ll get terrible inverse ghosting on top of an unavoidable slight double image effect.

Thankful when not using ELMB, and just using freesync, the overdrive options are not greyed out. That was the main reason I’m selling my Acer XB273U GX. I didn’t get any stuck pixels, but there are to many issues with this monitor for me to keep it.

So I’m going to return it and try my luck with a replacement.

This monitor does a lot of things very well. It has that built-in colorimeter for calibration and does not need to be connected to a computer for it to automatically calibrate itself. The software that runs it is okay, I have some minor quibbles with it that can make it frustrating or confusing, I hope that can be ironed out over time.

I would think this monitor would be ideal for photographers with laptops, since it can charge the laptop and be used as a second screen. But, I’m a retoucher, and from my viewpoint, this monitor doesn’t cut it.

If I have two identical images up in two areas of the screen, they can appear different, so doing visual matches are tricky. I can see one side of the screen lighter and more cyan, and the other darker and reddish.

It is consistent with other screens that have problems with off-angle color reproduction. For the price, I would have thought this would have been more under control. I have several retouchers working on these and they all have the same complaint.

For some, the features this screen offers will make it just the right tool. For serious retouching, get the Eizo (if you can find one!).

Disappointing screen finish and color gamet. Screen is plastic – a high end monitor should be glass. A major step down from the UP2715K which had a beautiful glass screen and exceptional backlight that more faithfully reproduced highly saturated colors.

Beware, monitor is not HDR or WCG. Calibration hardware sounds like it is made of cheap plastic and will break quickly. Sometimes the display looses signal and flashes. USB hub shows up as no enumerating in windows (had this problem with the UP2715K as well seems to be a common problem with dell monitors).

The sharpness setting actually puts incorrect colors on your screen (looks like JPG compression) if you turn it above 50%. Screen is somewhat blurry at 50%. I was hoping for a lower resolution version of the UP2715K that would work better with windows and was completely disappointed.

My previous monitor was a 32″ and I was concerned about loosing 5″ of screen real estate. In retrospect it didn’t matter one bit. The Dell UltraSharp 27 4k Premier Color monitor was a very good purchase for our Long Island based boutique organic soap and cosmetic company.

I needed an outstanding monitor to provide color accuracy for our website both in terms of photography and videography needs. This morning offers both the Adobe and sRGB color spectrum and the colors are vivid and accurate.

Dynamic contrast, reproduction and construction are excellent. The mat finish is helpful in reducing glare without impeding color accuracy. Finally Dell’s warrantee is one of the best in this product space.

If you want a monitor that is fully adjustable – up/down, side to side, tilt and pan, than this is it. It was also great for me because it had a VGA socket as well as HDMI, so it was easier to plug and play for me without having to completely disassemble my computer desk set up.

Also if you want USB outlets on your monitor (I find them so much easier to reach than those on my CPU) this is also an excellent choice. It actually has four USB ports (downstream) two on the side and two in the back, so I put some of things (like my Fitbit dongle) in one of the back ports, so that I can leave it in all the time, and still have two open ports easily accessible on the side for jump drives and external hard drive backups.

Only been using it for a few weeks, but am very happy with it. Like the almost nonexistent bezels on sides and top much more visible screen than my old 22 inch. It took a little bit to get used to the anti-blue light – makes the screen a tad yellower with white backgrounds, but it is more restful.

I am not a gamer, and being retired I no longer use it for work tasks, mostly just to stream video, read the news, e-mail, social media, and manage family finances, etc. It works just fine for all those things, and is a good size for me, any larger and I’d have to move my head too much back and forth.

It does what it is supposed to do, flawlessly. No missing pixels were detected. Color, brightness, had to be slightly adjusted. However, they were perfectly usable to the non-critical user (that would be me).

I have one complaint that it was difficult to find this model. A silver/black version was listed, but I had to use the chat option to find an all-black version. The chat person said it was only available to commercial users, However, I obtained the part number from him and was able to order it even though it is for my personal use.

There are less expensive 24″ monitors but based on my experience with Dell hardware the few extra dollars are well spent and my experience thus far (one week) has proven that to be true.

The monitor has proven to be excellent. I was after a monitor that offered adjustable height, tilt, and display port input, whilst still having a VGA connector, ideally being an IPS panel, there was very few products on the market which meet this criteria.

I have found having the monitor orientated in portrait format has been surprisingly useful, something the monitor easily does, and not offered on many screens on the market. The picture quality on the display is very clear and easy to read.

My past experience with Dell LCD panels is they keep going for many years the screen I am using for this review is still going strong after 15 years which I can’t complain about!.

I really enjoy using this monitor with my Chromebook Pixelbook. The majority of the time I use it to present to my clients where they are sitting on the opposite side of the table. The mirror function works great and the colors are reproduced faithfully.

I can get through a 3 hour meeting on a single charge. As a day trader, I extensively use this second monitor to watch the stock price movements and pull triggers relying on fast refresh rate. This second display does the trick and i actually prefer to use this monitor as my main display thanks to the 1080P display and ultra fast refresh rate.

On the entertainment side, I find it extremely useful to watch sports team on different monitors, the refresh rate and clearly is superb. Not to mention it’s super lightweight i can easily fit it with my regular laptop in the same case.

Often times i’d forget i am carrying an extra monitor with me. All in all, i highly recommend this monitor to anyone who needs mulitple quality, and compact display to pair up with your laptop. You can’t go wrong with ASUS brand!!.

It’s a solid product for what it is. Perfect for connecting to a laptop with older USB ports. With an older laptop you can’t easily use the cool new toys, so it is great to have this option. But lacks elegance and features.

Using case as display stand is clunky and prone to falling. Only has input port on one side, making left side use clunky (with the cable lopping around). No Kensington lock slot – which is a big drawback for anyone hoping to use this in a public space where you want to prevent grab and dash.

Overall, it’s not what I wanted but it is what I needed (at least until I get a laptop upgrade).

Like most, having to establish an impromptu home office is easier said than done. I’m used to having dual monitors at my work office and don’t utilize them for personal use at home. Having found an immediate need to perform my daily job tasks, I was glad to see the ASUS MB169B+.

The monitor is lightweight, easy to transport, and very compatible with my ASUS laptop. My system (Windows 10) automatically recognized the driver and installed it. This monitor is NOT a touchscreen, which doesn’t bother me one bit.

It is easy to adjust to whatever side you’re comfortable working with (left, right, top, and bottom). About the only (minor) complaint I have is that I need to adjust the monitor’s brightness each time I power it on.

While odd, I’ve become used to doing so in the time I’ve had it, so it’s not a huge deal anymore. The display is crystal clear, and the foldable stand (prop?) it came with is as functional as it is convenient — especially in small spaces.

I bought this because I travel a lot and want multiple screens, like I have at home. This idea is outstanding, but it’s lacking in product quality and design. 1. ) I bought this and started assembling it.

One of the clips that holds the monitors together broke. So, I had to purchase new, additional clips to replace the broken clip. 2. ) the magnets hold (mostly), but I ended up putting two magnets in each spot on one of my laptops because the monitors kept slipping off.

That was disappointing. However, I worry that 2 magnets at each spot, might be overkill and also cost damage to the monitors. But they were falling off with just one magnet installed (as suggested by Mobile Pixel.

instructions), so there was that. 3. ) I took this unit on 1 Trip (ONE) (in fact I’m still on the trip). I carried my Mobile Pixel Trio in my carry on. AND THE SCREEN ON ONE OF THE MONITORS BROKE. This means that from my house, rolling my luggage to the car, placing in the car, and then rolling it through the airport and placing it into the overhead was too stressful for the monitor to endure.

WOW. This is supposed to be a mobile professional friendly device. But it’s very very fragile. I contacted Mobile Pixel and asked if they would replace it under warranty but they said no. I do appreciate their rapid response, but darn – this device literally did not last 1 trip and broke already.

I paid over $600 for the TRIO setup and now, I just bought a 2nd replacement monitor. When I think about all the other electronic devices I carry daily that do not break (laptops, phones, smart watches, cameras, etc.

) it’s just disappointing. 4. ) Mobile Pixel did respond almost immediately to my contact email. I really appreciate their rapid response on the weekend. They said they would repair it, at the cost of $145 not including shipping, or a new one for $199.

They also mentioned there is Cracked screen replacement insurance that I could have gotten for $20. 99 but shipping on their options was not included and I’m not sure if it would be overnight. 5. ) I went ahead and ordered a replacement monitor on Amazon instead, because I’m working right now, out of town and want/need the extra monitor to do my job.

(And Amazon can deliver me a new one today/ same day). Overall, I would say the concept and idea is 5 star. The execution of this and the build quality is like 1 star. This device should be much more rugged, considering it’s for travelling professionals.

I do appreciate Mobile Pixel customer service responding to me so quickly though. That was much appreciated, although in the end, there wasn’t much they could do, other than sell me a new one. I will be packing this much more carefully with bubble wrap, and in my backpack instead of my carry on.

I hope that approach works better.

OK Cons first: Sorry guys, I really wanted to love these monitors but I just can’t justify the price point when the triple monitor set up is held together by these flimsy plastic clamps. My whole setup keeps coming apart whenever I extend them.

Usually they fall off the magnets as well. I am not part of your R&D department so I don’t know who tested these and developed the clamping system but there has GOT to be a better way to accomplish this mission.

The whole setup just sags terribly and feels like I am playing a game of “Jenga” the entire time I am working remotely. I keep worrying that someone will bump my table in Starbucks and the whole setup come crashing down off the magnets.

Pros: Excellent build for the monitors itself. Slide covers the monitor for scratch protection. I downloaded the driver software and they hooked up flawlessly. The right angle cables are an awesome thought.

Shipping was laser fast and packaging was “Apple-esc”? (Can I say that?) All in all I was in love with everything but the actual deployment of the product. Sadly at this time I am going to return the monitors and keep shopping for a triple monitor set up that will be secure enough to not fall off my laptop during a normal day of leeching off a Starbucks WiFi signal or a barstool at Applebees.

I may revisit later if the clamping design changes but for now this product is going back. Jim.

I work entirely on the computer. I got the one of the duel trio, and it has literally changed my life. I absolutely love this monitor. I cannot work without it. Its probably the best purchase I have made in a really long time.

When I’m traveling, I easily work at max capacity at the airport, at the hotel, wherever I am, just as if I’m at my desk at home. So many people have come up to me and asked about it in amazement. I have the larger one and its the same size as my computer screen, so its like having two computers at once.

When its time to pack up, I slide it right in and shut my computer. The product is great quality, when I’m home, I leave it connected to my computer at all times and it stays put, not flimsy at all its as if its a part of my laptop.

A few months in I did start to experience some flickering, but I reached out to customer service and without any issue, hesitation or arguing they sent me a replacement at no cost to me, and its perfect as expected.

As slightly frustrated as I was with the flickering issue, I admit the product is so great I cant go back to working without it, I put up with the flickering until my replacement came because I am that dependent on the product now.

The customer support rep that helped me, David, was so great, helpful and kind. He was so responsive too, answered all of my rant filled emails with a kind response within a few hours or less. He was such a great help and I am grateful he was assigned to me.

I got this monitor almost a month ago, and have nothing but great things to say about it. First was assembly. I had my 8 year old read the instructions and put it together. He did great. It was simple and fast.

We popped it onto the desk, and it just worked. The slenderness of the stand may be the first thing you notice. This doesn’t look like a cheap product, it has quite a bit of elegance to it. The size is exactly what we were looking for, and it looks good on the desk with a thin bezel.

It is nice having the extra vertical resolution above a standard 1080p or 1200p monitor. Text looks crisp. The screen has a nice matte quality and handles reflections with ease (aka there are never glaring reflections from my lights behind me.

The laptop it is connected to is almost like a mirror by comparison. ) Another thing I like about the monitor “just working” it it falling asleep and waking up with the computer. Who hasnt had an experience where one device wakes up but not the other, or screens flashing blue randomly.

This monitor has just done exactly what it was supposed to. The buttons are behind the screen on the right side, and very easy to use without needing to peak behind. They have a nice tactile feel, and are far enough apart to discern from each other.

The last thing I really like about this monitor is that it functions as a USB dock. I can plug all my stuff into the monitor, and plug the monitor into my laptop. It even charges my laptop. I would recommend this product to anyone, but especially someone with a USB C laptop.

All in all, it has been perfect.

I’m very satisfied for this monitor for the price I paid. For $180 on sale this is an excellent value. The screen is very, very bright and clear. There is some light bleed and I had to return one due to a small crack on the screen but Office Depot was wonderful about the exchange and I am very happy with this purchase.

The USB C functionality works great up to 65 watts of power. it will charge your laptop, provide keyboard and mouse via the USB ports, and video input. I am currently using it over HDMI as I have a KVM switch with a USB C dock and it is working flawlessly as well.

It has audio out so you can plug speakers into it (not all monitors have this). For the price the screen, ports, and overall quality is very very good!.

Overall this is a quality monitor. It has a nice build/finish to it. The screen bright is great and uniformly bright, and really shines when the resolution is set to 1440p. Perfect monitor for work from home folks.

There are numerous USB inputs that allow me to free up desk space since I now no longer have to use a docking station. Awesome it has USB C support as well. The only negatives I have to say are in regards to the stand, as it feels less polished to me when compared to the monitor.

And connecting the monitor to the stand wasn’t very fun, as I dropped one of the screws into back cavity and it took forever to get it out.

I loved this so much I had to buy a second one. I use one for my work chat and I just bought a second for an additional screen for my gaming PC. They work better horizontally than vertically, in my opinion.

The power chord is kind of oddly sticking out if you use it vertically, but if things like that don’t bother you, go for it.

The monitor came with a case that doubles as a stand, but it’s not a secure stand. If someone walks by or bumps the table, it falls down. It fits very securely in the case and even has loops to hold the cord, which is nice.

As far as the image quality, it’s fine for me because I’m using it for documents and Zoom calls. I loved the price because I’ll be using it for travel and outside the office meetings. Thus, if it does get damaged, it’s not such a big hit to the wallet.

I’m not sure what the situation is concerning the quality control of this particular monitor. I first purchased one of these monitors about two years ago and the one I received at that time was stunning for the price range.

The colors were glorious. Very deep blacks, very bright whites. A little color bleed at the edges, but that’s to be expected at this price range. So when these monitors went on sale for $100 each at a Newegg competitor last week, I purchased two more for a triple monitor setup.

Wow, do I feel cheated. The two new monitors look like absolute trash. One of them has a green tinge to it that is impossible to remove. I spent hours attempting to calibrate the colors and change settings to remove this green tinge and nothing will work.

It’s so bad that my wife, whose eyesight is so poor that she’s legally blind, walked into the room and said “Why is the monitor on the right so green?” Neither of the two new monitors that I received will show black tones without turning the brightness and contrast down so low that every color on the screen is muted.

I’ve used several color calibration techniques and a couple of programs to attempt to get the two new monitors to even come close to the color clarity of the first one. Nothing works at all. I now have three monitors sitting on my desk with the same wallpaper.

The wallpaper looks different on all three. One is slightly washed out where the black in the picture is not really true black. One is absurdly washed out, the blacks are light grey at best and the greys are green.

I am extremely disappointed. It’s two weeks into the holiday season so returning these monitors for a replacement will be an aboslute nightmare. Not to mention I’m sure that I will have to pay the shipping costs to send two big bulky monitors back, and who knows what I’ll get in return if I exchange them instead of return them.

How many exchanges will I have to do in order to get two monitors that look as good as the first one I bought two years ago? By the time I add up all the shipping costs, I might as well have just bought the BenQ that I wanted in the first place and never had to worry about washed out, greenish tinged colors.

At its core, this is a good quality monitor. The image quality is good and the resolution is high. However, the claim that it is ‘frameless’ on 3 sides is misleading in my view. But for the price, it is a decent package for my primary use which is business.

I bought this monitor for the USB-C connectivity which is excellent, meaning I can plug in my Macbook Pro with just a single cable, delivering power, video, audio and all other device connectivity. There are two key drawbacks to this product.

Firstly, although it has built in speakers, the sound quality is so poor that they are unusable. The sound is akin to that of a mobile phone – much worse than my laptop speakers. Secondly, I was horrified by the product’s packaging – full of non-recyclable plastic.

Very disappointing from a well-known brand.

Overall good monitor with rich connectivity and great real estate. It’s easy to get used to extra working space coming from UW1080p. I’m not a big fan of the menu buttons, joystick feels more intuitive.

KVM is great, when it works – it cannot wake up a sleeping PC, unless you manually choose the port instead of auto-switching with the input.

Picture is great, no dead pixels and the USB hub works very well. Connected to a laptop and desktop simultaneously over USB-C and display port. Has USB-C pass through charging for the laptop so I don’t need the power cable.

Speakers are surprisingly good for a monitor. Display curve not as intrusive as I thought it would be.

This is a good monitor for general use with nice colors. My unit has some relatively minor backlight bleed on the bottom right edge near the corner, which is unfortunate, but otherwise there are no dead or stuck pixels, and color temperature and brightness are consistent across the display.

Make sure to turn Uniformity off in the settings for maximum brightness, it is somewhat dim otherwise. HDR is not great because the Uniformity setting can’t be turned off in HDR mode so the display is not bright enough.

Some minor tweaks in the monitor’s settings with saturation, contrast, and color temperature make the display vibrant and pleasing. This monitor functions well and I have not had any problems with flickering, sleep mode, or waking the display.

The USB hub is useful. I have connected my PC via DisplayPort, my PS5 via HDMI, and my laptop via USB-C and all inputs switch and work well. There is little to no visible ghosting when playing games at 4K 60fps.

It does make small plastic popping noises when it heats up and cools down, but this is typical and not a deal-breaker. Overall, this is a reliable and nice monitor.

The screen is gorgeous for this price range, nice and bright, with punchy HDR, many pro color options, a slick matte finish, and nice viewing angle. The MBook setting matches my 2021 MBP quite well for general use.

My intent was to use this mostly for toolbars and timelines and pallets and keep my video on the excellent MBP screen, but I find myself dragging video windows up to this and being happy with the look.

I connect via HDMI for video, I was not wild about the way it behaved when I tried USB-C. If you connect via both HDMI and USB-C, it will assume you have two separate video sources even if you only want the USB-C connection for data.

You have to switch between them. I pulled a star because the hub and switching options are less than stellar in practice. I run my Time Machine SSD and my audio interface through this unit and also use the side ports (handy) for thumb drives and such.

My main gripe is that it dismounts drives when it goes to sleep, causing me to need to enter a password to reconnect them if they are configured to be secure. I also don’t find the puck thing particularly useful, but that’s more a matter of preference.

I still think it’s worth the price for the screen alone and would buy it again.

First, the color is great. The monitor looks very nice. This can all be found on any review of this monitor. There are a couple negatives that I’ve never seen mentioned. I’ve worked with BenQ support to resolve both of these issues and neither had a satisfactory fix.

1) HDR mode. I somehow switched this monitor to HDR. Because of this, I can not switch to rec 709 which is the reason I bought this monitor. In fact, I can’t switch to any other color profile. BenQ said that this is because Windows manages HDR so in order to switch it off, I have to find settings in Windows and turn it off there.

This should have been mentioned in the documentation so that people would know to avoid it if this is an issue. This model has a puck to quickly set certain settings but what is the point when you also have to go into Windows to adjust things? Note that I did do a factory reset but even that didn’t help.

2) While the resolution is typically great, black text on white background is all but illegible. I bought this monitor to replace a very cheap monitor that handled black text on white perfectly. There’s not really an excuse for an $800 monitor to not show clear text.

BenQ’s advice was to look at something else instead(???) So I will. Maybe an ASUS.
