Exterior wood filler epoxy is a type of epoxy resin that is used to fill in cracks or holes in wood. It is a two-part system that consists of a resin and a hardener. The epoxy resin is a synthetic material that is made up of molecules that are bonded together by covalent bonds.
The hardener is a substance that is used to cure the resin and give it its strength. The hardener is usually a chemical compound that contains amine groups.

PC Woody Wood Epoxy Paste – 6 oz.
Two-part epoxy paste to replace missing or rotted wood is resistant to mildew, dry rot, UV light, and fresh and salt water
Replace missing/rotted wood with structural strength greater than most wood. Permanently repair window sills, frames, cornish, furniture, decking; rebuild missing wood; bridge or reinforce larger holes with screen wire or wood blocks.
30-40 minute working time. 90 minutes tack free, overnight for service, 1 week max cure time at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. After cure work and tool like real wood. Contains real wood pieces. Resistant to weather elements, mildew, dry rot, UV light, fresh and salt water, and chemicals present in pressure treated wood.
No vise or clamp needed for most applications. Will not drip or sag when applied to flat, vertical or overhead surfaces. 850 psi tensile shear strength. 50-55 hardness shore D after 1 week of curing.
I purchased this product because, when compared to other so-called “wood restorers”, (A) the two parts are easier to mix together; (B) it’s FAR easier to use a small spatula to apply the mixed product; and (C) it definitely has a higher “tackiness” or “stickiness” than others I’ve used.
In other words, there’s less waste. But, be advised: I live in the west, where summers are dry and hot. Beware of using P. C. Woody in the heat of a summer’s day, because it will harden in a fourth of the time the product information says it will! Mix ONLY the amount you can apply.
and cut that by a fourth if you use it in hot summer sun. That “quick-hardening” in sunlight is the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
As someone who is pretty handy and always working on home projects I discovered this product several years ago and have used it quite often for wood repair. Upside – once dry it is a hard and permanent wood repair patch.
Far stronger than any other wood repair product I have tried. Downside – it’s pricy for the amount you get compared to products like Bondo, fix-all, wood putty, etc. so if you have a large repair good luck.
It needs to dry and cure fully for about 24 hours ( depending upon temperature) before sanding. If you sand too soon you’ll have a mess. Trying to stain it to match surrounding wood is difficult at best.
I almost always use it where it’s going to be painted.
A bit hard to handle when still wet, but really strong and it blends with my pine logs really well. I also tried a competing product but it dried with an odd reddish color that was ok for painting afterward but no good for staining.
This product took stain just like the new pine replacement log I installed. But didn’t quite stain as darkly as the old logs I stripped (the ones that actually needed repairing). Nonetheless it’s still a fairly good match and blends in well when all said and done.
J-B Weld Company offers the most durable cold Weld products available. Products that are not only best sellers in their respective categories, but which also provide cost-effective repair options, even on items most people think can not be repaired.
J-B Weld KwikWood features include setting in 15-25 minutes, being paintable in 1 hour, it is easy to sand and drill and won’t crack or shrink. KwikWood can repair and rebuild anything made of wood.
This works great It makes a very strong replacement for any wood fixes a I find it to be in most cases stronger than the wood I am replacing. I like that it’s not messy and very easy to use. You do have to knead it to the point at which is is one uniform color or you will be disappointed.
A few notes: if using your bare hands, it does tend to want to stick to your fingers when filling holes. Moistening your fingers slightly will solve this. It does have a very unique smell (to me kind of a cross between tuna and a skunk), but not much worse than other epoxys I’ve used.
and finally, getting it out of the container is a pain. Sometimes this takes longer than the actual repair job. I just tap it upside down on my desk a few times, and eventually it will give. If anyone else has tips for removing it, I’d love to hear them Overall a great product.
Very short working time and the putty was very course. All I needed to do was fill some countersinks in plywood but this putty was difficult to work with. I should have just used ordinary wood putty.
Formulated to replace missing and rotted wood with structural strength greater than most wood. Permanent repair product. Two-part epoxy paste to replace missing or rotted wood is resistant to mildew dry rot UV light and fresh and salt water.
Can be used in indoor and outdoor applications with an application temperature range of 35 to 115 degrees F and a service temperature range of -20 to +200 degrees F. High tack helps reduce drips and sags while hardening.
Easy to mix and apply, hardens nicely. Easy to sand and stain, though of course it won’t be an exact match to wood but makes a good patch for some larger cracks in my deck. Time will tell if it’s better than last wood filler I used which tended to shrink and crack over the winter.
We’ll see how this one fares outside over the course of a year but so far so good.
I used this to repair/rebuild part of a chest-of-drawers leg and bottom of a side panel that had suffered dog urine damage. After removing the damaged wood, I used some PC Products Wood Petrifier to seal the wood.
Then I used PC Woody Wood Repair Epoxy Paste according to the included instructions. When cured, I sanded the new “wood” to shape, then applied staining and clear sealer. My husband was going to throw this nice piece of furniture away, but now he is impressed with the repair.
Bonus: no strong odors or fumes during or after use.
It has structural strength greater than most wood. PC- Woody is a permanent wood repair for interior and exterior applications. This epoxy is made from real wood and has many characteristics of wood.
PC-Woody formulation provides extended working time, for large and critical jobs, which allows the user time to reposition work or make changes. High “wet grab” or tack of PC-Woody makes overhead and sidewall work easy without drip or sag.
PC- Woody demonstrates excellent resistance to all weather elements, mildew dry rot, UV light, fresh and salt water, and also chemicals present in pressure-treated wood.
Excellent choice for wood repair. It is intermediate in viscosity, so depending on your needs you may want a product that is more like clay or more liquid. Sculpt Wood has three products that cover the range.
PC Woody is right in the middle. It has a consistency like peanut butter. Works great and is more economical than some others, although not cheap. If you don’t need the structural stability provided by epoxy, there are many inexpensive wood fillers that achieve a good cosmetic result.
I bought some of this last year, but didn’t get around to using it till this spring. The product was better than I expected. After fixing a portion of rotted out log, the fixed part was like knocking on cement.
It created a stronger support than I’d anticipated. So pleased, that I just purchased more for other badly decomposed areas.
The “Peanut Butter ” Consistency made the repair easy. Harden just like instructions indicated. No additives (Sawdust, etc. ) were required. Would like to know if adding tint of color will affect repair.
The project worried me at first because didn’t know how the product would work.

KwikWood by J-B Weld is a hand-mixable epoxy putty, formulated to repair and rebuild wood. After mixing, it cures to the same density as wood and becomes an integral part of the repair. For use on exterior or interior applications, it contains no solvents, will not rot, shrink, crack or pull away.
KwikWood has a 15-25 minute work life. After 60 minutes, it can be machined, drilled, tapped, sanded, filed and painted. Stronger than wood, KwikWood dries to a light tan colour.
I give it a 4. 5 and recomend for selective applications. Tints well with small specks of artist oil paints. Smoothable prior to curing when lightly rubbed with water or alcohol applied to fingers after achieving desired fill.
Sanding quality is great. Cures fully without shrinkage to a dullish non glossy texture; another likeable feature which also makes this good for select types of pottery repair. Clear coats can appear like glaze.
Inner core was rock hard. Tried to blend it together best I could. I should have thrown it away. Doubt it will fix the six screw holes I was repairing.
I had to fill the dead lock hole in our door jamb and re-drill a new hole. This product worked great. A 3/4″ spade drill bit made a smooth hole in the wood putty epoxy with no crumbling. I recommend this product for heavier duty wood filling needs.
The one ounce tube was sufficient to fill a 3/4″ x 1″ hole, door latch cutout area and two screw holes with a small amount of product left over.

Bought this in one of Rona’s as i thought it’s a epoxy for wood fixes, however the product never gets sturdy enough. It curres within a minute (which happens when you’re mixing two components) and it gets hard to apply.
After that it says – in 60 mins it will be as sturdy as wood, but it looks like 48 hours after application product’s quality is closer to something in between dry dough and kids playdough. It’s sticky crumbling substance, so can be damaged by a fingernail but it’s really hard to clean out.
For my money i got spoiled wooden surfaces which i need to clean/drill out and start over again with a normal product.
It’s funny, the cabinetry “expert” told me there was nothing I could do to fix the ripped-out hinges on the cabinet door in my kitchen. Apparently he was not familiar with this product! Pretty incredible stuff, but Home Depot needs to start stocking a higher quantity in their stores.
It was a real pain to track down the last packet in all of Victoria.
Just cut the amount required with a sharp knife. With clean fingers work until it becomes a light brown warm consistency, apply to the area preferably with a scalpel knife. Allow to dry 30 min, job done.
WoodEpox succeeds because it can be painted, stained, wood-grained, sawed, nailed, planed, sanded, carved, and machined like wood. Can be cast into shapes and sculpted by hand before hardening. Bonds equally well to ceramics, concrete, metal, glass, fiberglass, and most rigid surfaces.
Contains no VOC’s or noxious odors. It has a light, neutral color that can be changed, by mixing with stains, dyes, or pigments. Has a no slump paste consistency that allows it to be applied like a putty to fill gaps, holes, or to build-up virtually any thickness and shape.
Great way to permanently repair exterior wood trim, posts and beams that would be expensive to replace with new. I have repaired 12 full dimension 6″x6″ approximately 20′ long posts and beams associated with them that support a high deck and roof structure.
They had severe weather damage and I had repaired them with Bondo in the past but it did not last more than a year before it started to squeeze out of the weather cracks. I repaired half of the posts and beams using Abatron a year and a half ago and the wood remains in perfect condition.
I am now about finished repairing the remaining beams. I also have found Abatron to be the perfect repair for cracks in my cedar siding. I am very impressed with this product and highly recommend it.
When MyBondo repair failed I contacted technical support at Bondo and the rep told me he hated to recommend a competetors product but for my repairs Abatron would be his choice. The tough part was removing all of the old filler.
I also used liquid wood everywhere that I used the Wood Epoxy to make certain that I got the best repair possible.
the only fix I’ve found that lasts for repairing rotted or decayed wood. The strength and the bond are excellent. Coefficient of expansion is identical as wood so it lasts and very durable. Working with WoodEpox the 1st time is a little tricky but you’ll see good results.
I’ve found that a tiny amount of water on your hands helps molding and shaping the mixed product.
I have started to use this to repair the edges of a plywood deck that was originally sheathed with fibreglass cloth and resin. Unfortunately during the last 40 years someone used a sander nearby and rubbed the fibreglass away leaving the bare plywood.
I have used the Albaton Wood epoxy as it is advertised that it wont shrink to seal the raw edges and in some places gaps in the plywood. One can use it in temperatures down to 10F. The first application (3 days ago) had to be “encouraged” to start hardening by using a hot air gun.
Yesterday it had hardened enough to let me sand it down. I then applied a second coat in parts. Again because the temperature was just above 10F I had to use the hot air gun to get the hardening process going.
I am not sure if I was sold “old” stock as the Part A material (white) was quite dry only once I started mixing the (Beige) B material did I get a putty like mix that could be shaped. Heat certainly helps when mixing and when filling cracks.
I have just checked the second application and it has finally set hard. I have not rated this product Excellent Quality as I did find it quite hard to use. Compared to Poly cell its expensive ! thus the lower score.
Clear, light amber, low viscosity liquid. Specifically designed to wet out and bond with wood fiber, fiberglass and some metals. Self-leveling with roller applications. Cures in wide temperature range and can be sanded or shaped afterwards.
Relatively high flash point. Excellent adhesive when mixed with filler to reduce sag. Viscosity is approximately 1000 CP at 70 F. Use with #300 pumps for accurate dispensing. Mfg# 105-B 105B Upc# 811343010003.
I only use West Systems 105 for my boat refits. Mixed with the correct hardner, I use it for fiberglassing and thickened with 406 for bonding and filets. Mixing it with kitty hair (chopped fiberglass) creates a glass to glass bond like no other.
Also 407 additive creates a perfect fairing compound.
West Systems is a boat builders/repair epoxy that has excellent performance. It has also been approved for certain aircraft applications. I use it for a number of jobs but mostly for building model airplanes when I need a good epoxy that’s easy to use and not thick like the hobby epoxies.
It wets out fiberglass very well and can be used to laminate wood to other materials like foam. Its low viscosity allows it to penetrate into wood pores much better than most other wood glues and provides a high bonding strength.
This is my second purchase of this product as I ran out. You can also call the Gougeon Brothers for any questions and assistance. Good stuff.
This is the first time I used West System epoxy. I’m very happy with the product. I recommend getting the epoxy pumps it make it so much easier to prepare additional epoxy mixes in the middle of a job.
I used the epoxy to repair a soft spot on my deck hatch. It’s in an area that does not require finishing. So I don’t have much experience applying West System epoxy and finishing with gel coat.
Wood putty filler provides a permanent repair to damaged and rotted wood. Professional strength formula is ideal for interior and exterior wood projects. Use to fill in small cracks or large holes. Provides a hard workable surface in 15 minutes.
Will not shrink, crack, or split. Can be shaped, sanded, drilled, carved, screwed, and painted. Ideal for rebuilding frames, securing joints or anchoring screws. Great for door frames, window frames and sills, sashes, eaves, corner boards, columns, posts, stairs, garage doors, fences, furniture, and more.
I’m never going back to water based filler. This filler is less expensive than the equivalent Minwax product and works just as well. What I like most about this is that you can deep fill and sand it in 30 minutes.
Reason for 4 stars instead of 5? The container suffers from the same phenomenon as a bag of potato chips and there is just as much air in the container as product. Maybe there’s a scientific reason for this but I was disappointed when I opened the can and it was only half full of product.
Much better adhesion that other wood repair products. Very smooth and easy to work with. Working time of 10 minutes is consistent from batch to batch. Completely cures in one hour and is ready for sanding and painting.
Forgot to include #sweepstakes in my review. Excellent adhesion, goes on smoothly, working time of 10 minutes is predictable. Cures fully in one hour and sands like real hardwood.
Sculptor putty is the epoxy putty component of The End Rot system. Sculptor putty is a two component, solvent free, knead able epoxy resin putty. It is moldable, cartable, lightweight, strong, and exhibits excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates.
It is easily sanded and will accept paint, screws and nails. It is most commonly used in conjunction with system three Rot Fix, a low viscosity wood sealer and consolidate. The QuikKit is a package that consists of an outer cup that hold the resin and an inner cup that contains the hardener.
Empty the hardener into the resin cup, mix and it is ready for use. Comes in 1-quart size.
We have some exposed wood beams (circa 1972) in our carport that extend out into the elements here in Phoenix, Arizona. They badly needed some restoration as the many coats of paint were about the only thing helping them look still somewhat intact.
When I started chipping away at the rotted wood, I was horrified to find out just how much rot there was. I found this product via a Google search and bought some at Rockler. It is a great product line; does what it says.
We had a fantastic result! See pics. I highly recommend.
I restore antique dolls and I have not been able to find an epoxy like this one. It gave me plenty of time to make a finger and it was stable when I sanded it lightly. Paint coved good. I also repaired the feet and holes in the hips.
Cedar wood Filler contains a powerful and innovative formula that spreads smoothly and evenly into large holes, cracks or defects in unfinished wood. Eliminates the need for mixing and efficiently Dries within minutes without cracking or crumbling ensuring a minimized project time and long lasting results.
Designed to take stains and paints like real wood, creating a stronger surface than the wood it replaces with little or no shrinkage. Ideal for use with any type of masking small or large defects.
These are the best over-all and Rockler has them is various tints. Getting a perfect match is never possible and the filled areas will stain differently from the surrounding wood surface. The filler can dry out quickly but can be reconditioned by adding small amounts (5 ml) of acetone and/or methyl-ethyl-ketone (MEK), which I’ve only found at Sherwin-Williams Paint stores.
One method of use is to apply the filler on larger defects, then apply some CA glue (super glue) on top of it and drop some sanding dust from that type of wood on top of the wet glue. It quickly becomes extremely hard and will tend to stain darker than just the filler alone.
Got the job done for the purpose project that I was on. Was a good match for the wood that I was refinishing. But it dries very quickly so if you work with the product you must work fast to make sure that you get it completed in time before the drawing.
It molds very easily it doesn’t take a lot of the product to complete what you need to do and feeling cracked so whatever your project might be. It does have an odor. So make sure that if you do work with a mask if the fumes annoy you.
Although the fumes may not be harmful it is rather a strong odor.
Solvent-free spreadable epoxy that is ideal for repairing fine cracks, splits, gouges, nail holes, etc. In architectural wood components. Similar to sculpwood putty but spreads like spackle. The soft, buttery consistency is easy to mix and work.
Easy to sand when cured and will not shrink, crack or become brittle. Has a superiors bond to most substrates including wood, fiberglass, ceramic, brick, concrete and steel. It is 100% waterproof and safe for interior/exterior use.
Use to replace rotted or chipped away wood; cracks and other cosmetic defects in window and door sills, frames, railings, furniture, etc. Features a convenient 1:1 mixing ratio, resin and hardener are easily mixed by hand.
I had a couple of wood items that needed minor repair, and remembered that a friend had used this product before to sculpt a missing ear for an antique carousel horse she owned. She recommended it highly, so I purchased some and tried it.
It seems to work well, adhering to the wood and bonding to it. I have not yet tried sanding or painting it, but don’t expect any problems. Though my use of it is limited, it seems to be superior to wood filler and allows you to actually recreate missing pieces of wood, if you have the ability to do so.
Seemed to to mix easily and kept its shape during my application. I needed to fill a latch hole that had been broken out, thereby saving a lengthy and expensive replacement of the door frame. I filled the gapping hole with Sculpwood and let it set up over night.
Now all I still have to do is use my little palm router and route a new hole for the latch and strike plate. If all goes well, it should be as good as new.

TotalBoat FixWood marine-grade epoxy putty is an easy reliable way to repair rotted wood permanently. This 2-component moldable epoxy putty is easy to shape in place by hand or using tools. Wont sag shrink or crack.
Compare to Abatron WoodEpox, System Three SculpWood, Smiths Fill-It, PC Products PC-Woody, DAP Plastic Wood, and RTG Wood Rot Repair Epoxy Putty.
While I have been boating for awhile, I am not using this product on a boat. In combination with Total Boat Penetrating Epoxy, I am using this to repair rotted wooden window sills and frames. It’s perfect.
I mix the 2 parts with each about the size of a golf ball. It starts out kind of stiff and during kneading, becomes very soft and malleable. Unlike other 2 part systems, this product is very easy to sand.
Follow the instructions! It is far superior when using an adhesion coat of Penetrating Epoxy.
I used this wood putty to fill some cracks, checks, knots, and screw holes in the oak superstructure of a lobster boat. I used it over the penetrating epoxy according to the instructions on the product and had good results with adhesion.
It’s easily sanded with a random orbital sander so don’t be scared if it goes on a little proud of what you are filling. My only caution is that despite its 20 minute working time, towards the 10 minute mark it will become exponentially more difficult to work with so do yourself a favor and mix very small batches.
Also I’d recommend a pretty stiff metal putty knife as it hits this harder-to-work-with consistency. Overall, easy to use and does exactly what it says it will. Wish the color were a bit darker, though.
Used it to fill a small void in an oar blade which will be covered in Dynel. Like other reviewers, I was dubious about the crumbly texture of the Resin. It mixed up fine though. Instructions indicated “by hand”, which I came to understand was meant literally.
Via gloved fingers and palms kneading the two equal parts together was child’s play. The mix molded easily and equally easy to apply over the epoxy penetrated wood. Will be curious to ascertain its shelf life.
Key Features WoodEpox is a shrink-free epoxy wood filler that replaces, repairs, extends and fills wood and most rigid materials Permanently bonds to most surfaces Chemical-, water-, heat-
Oak stair treads and risers were damaged when carpet runner was removed. This product worked great. Was only able to mix and apply about 3 tablespoons of each part in the 20 minutes work time. Putty like constancy was a little hard to apply and had to be worked hard to fill holes and stay in place.
Putty holds well on horizontal and verticals surfaces. Once in place and set, it bonded well. Do wish I had also gotten some Liquid Wood to prime some of the bigger patches and for mixing with putty to make it flow a little easier.
Patches set hard but sanded easily and took paint and stain well. On stained surfaces, I coloured patches with repair sticks after to match. Clean off or sand any residue oils around patch or those areas will take stain differently than patch and natural wood.
Stronger than wood, KwikWood dries to a light tan color.
Best wood filler I’ve ever used. Works great & sets up FAST so you can make repairs with little time loss. I’ve never had it come loose once applied. Been using it for years.
My wood working friend suggested it and used it to fix my wife’s side table leg that got gouged by the moving guys. After my final shaping and sanding and stain touch up, it looks original, great stuff.
Have used this product to repair damaged items and repair missing parts. It is easy to use and molds well to the item I am applying it to. After painting, you can’t tell it was repaired.

Clear, light amber, low viscosity liquid. Specifically designed to wet out and bond with wood fiber, fiberglass, and some metals. Self-leveling with roller applications. Cures in wide temperature range and can be sanded or shaped afterward.
Relatively high flash point. Excellent adhesive when mixed with filler to reduce sag. Viscosity is approximately 1000 CP at 70 F. Use #300 mini pumps for accurate dispensing.
I have been using West Systems 105 Epoxy and their hardeners and fillers for over 50 yrs for repairs on my sailboats. Their 5 to 1 dispensers are a must [I was a Research Chemist where batch preparation and precise measurements were key to performance].
I know there are other epoxies available – why would I change?.
When it comes to exterior wood filler epoxy, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, this type of epoxy is designed for use on wood surfaces that are already painted or varnished. If you’re using it on bare wood, you’ll need to make sure that the surface is properly prepared before applying the epoxy.
Second, you’ll need to choose the right type of epoxy for the job. There are two main types of exterior wood filler epoxy: one that is designed for use on porous surfaces, and one that is designed for use on non-porous surfaces.
Porous surfaces include wood that has been sanded, while non-porous surfaces include metal, glass, and plastic.
Third, you’ll need to apply the epoxy correctly. Make sure that you read the instructions on the label carefully before you start, and that you follow them to the letter. If you don’t, you could end up with a mess that’s difficult to clean up.
Finally, don’t forget to allow the epoxy to cure properly before you begin using the wood surface again. If you don’t, the epoxy could come off, leaving behind a sticky mess.
