20 Best Exhaust Fan For Garage (2023 Updated)

The fan was installed by an electrician yesterday. It was easy to program (once you read the manual) and seems to be working well. However, there are two problems that buyers should be aware of. The louvers do not fit snugly.

You can see daylight on either side when they are in the fully closed position. My electrician is going to have to have a sheet metal protective cover made so that rain will not be able to come in the house if there is a heavy sideways rain.

The second problem is that the connecting cord to the digital control is only about 2 1/2 feet long. The place that my second fan is going is not easily accessible and with that cord, I will not be able to access the controls.

Being aware of this potential problem, I had called customer service before I purchased this model fan and was told that it came with a remote control so that I would be able to change the fan settings from a distance.

Actually, the two models have different controls. The one I ordered (T) has the wired digital control with the short cord that has programmable settings. It does not have a remote control. The other model (S) has a remote control that changes the fan speed but does not have automatic settings.

To solve the problem I will have to find a 4 pin connecting cable that is long enough to install the controls at a place I will be able to reach it.

I purchased this fan to exhaust our garage. I had a previous opening, and this fan fit right in – no fuss no muss. It works like a charm and does a great job of removing fumes from the garage. Since this fan is for occasional use, I purchased the model without the temperature or humidity control.

The speed controller is simple and easy to use. In short, it’s a great unit – easy to install, easy to use, and effective exhaust. I would like to add that I had previously mistakenly ordered the 14″ fan which I discovered was too big for my opening.

Cassandra handled the return and ordering the correct unit with a smile. It was a pleasure working with her, and her pleasant demeanor in processing my return is a sign of a well-run, respectable company.

I really like this fan as it controls heat and humidity very well. Unfortunately it does not stand up to year round use in my greenhouse. I am on my second one and both have needed replacement around a year of use.

To be clear the fan still works but it is rusted, looks terrible and rattles loud enough to make it a nuisance. While for the price I am tempted to buy a third fan, long term replacing the unit yearly is not cost effective.

My husband and I are happy with this purchase. It’s a very powerful fan and it’s loud. We wouldn’t use it in the house but our garage is also a workshop and an area for all different kinds of crafts and projects.

We wanted a fan powerful enough to get rid of a variety of odors and we set our max budget at 100. It was easy for him to install as he had wiring, a switch and the necessary skills. If we had to hire someone to install this, it would have blown our budget.

We’ve only been using it for a week now but so far it’s exactly what we wanted.

Unit works great and if you are wiring direct you can use a variable fan switch to adjust the speed at a fraction of the cost listed for the corded version. I was doing something specific with mine. I am roasting coffee in my garage and wanted something to be able to exhaust our the orders before the got in the room.

This fan works great! Simple to install and I direct wired it in with a switch(which is a variable fan switch from Lowes $10. 99). The only thing I see is the dampers do not seal completely and do open with the wind around a little bit.

I will put a piece of rigid insulation in the hood I am building to seal off the cold in the winter. I could not be happier with the product!!.

I needed an exterior, weather proof exhaust fan for my crawl space that I could use with a quality speed control and this one was perfect for the job. It was easy to install and wire. It seems pretty weather resistant and has the proper CFM for my application.

It’s also fairly quiet and hopefully able to withstand running continuously through the summer and part of the winter. It looks great and I’m satisfied with everything about it except that it’s made in China.

We should be able to manufacture these things in the USA.

Purchased this fan for a small bathroom ( 55 square feet) and it works well in that application. My issue with fan is the OVAL exhaust nozzle ‘cone thingy’. Who thought of this?! You can’t put a round vent duct hose on an OVAL exhaust without some serious wrangling.

Not to mention, as a retro-fit into an existing structure you need to start your installation by throwing away the instructions. Seriously. Toss them in the recycle bin because they are of no use to you as they only have new construction in mind.

So, what you have to do is remove the motor/fan assembly from the housing. This is super easy just unscrew the 2 small black screws that hold the fan in place then unplug the wires from the harness thingy.

Keep close track of the screws and remember that the electric wire plug in is color coded. Plug it in exactly as it was so remember which color was on the outside. Connect the exhaust hose and your power supply being sure to tuck electrical connection into the housing.

Now either drill holes for screws or hammer nails through the housing and directly into the joist. Reassemble the fan by fitting it back into housing with the screws, plug the wires into the harness and replace the screws.

Easy! This method was suggested by Nutone when I called about lack of retrofit instructions. Fan works great and my only gripe is the grill as the measurements were taken from the center of the grill and didn’t mention the ends curve so it is not as wide on either end as it is in the middle.

This fan does not work. Sure it runs, and is quiet, but almost zero moisture gets sucked into it because it is so weak. You actually feel wind coming back at you when it’s running. I have to now replace it with a better fan.

It must just be the design. It uses a different turbine style design that has almost no suction. What a pain. My bathroom is so full of steam after a short shower it is dripping down the walls and you can see the steam just swirling around the vent but not going INTO the vent.

And yes, I made sure the backdraft flap is working.

I had to replace an old fan in a ceiling with many existing obstacles. The fan fit a space with very limited depth. Since the unit was designed to fit in a wall or ceiling, I hoped it would fit my limited space.

It did. The installation would likely be quite simple under most normal situations. Only after removing the old fan did I notice that I would need the four inch to three inch adapter supplied with this unit.

Though the adapter was not a deciding factor in my purchase, I was very pleased it was included. I don’t have a frame of reference for how loud 1. 1 sones should be, but the fan was louder than I expected.

It is not annoyingly loud, but do not expect whisper quiet. I did extensive research for a product that fit my needs. The fan does effectively move air and thus reduce humidity. The unit is probably as quiet as specified.

It fit in the space intruded upon by plumbing, wiring and ductwork. I am satisfied that the product is as advertised.

The price appears steep BUT for what you get it is a fair deal. I expected to buy an exhaust fan for 20-30 bucks but I quickly found that they sell for MUCH more. THIS fan is a quality unit BUT (again) you must know how to install one, and what is required to install it.

As an attic fan this is the perfect choice. As a kitchen fan you will need to improvise. It is a flush mount for a single (outside) wall. A bezel of any sort is required IF you need this installed on an interior wall BUT this is easily accomplished for a minimal cost.

This unit n is very quiet, and louvers function well without loss of air. It has no draft. The fan was easy to mount and has excellent volume of air movement. The fan unit has quality construction and no vibration.

I purchased two of these for two restrooms. The smaller restroom was a 3/4 bath and about 65sq feet. There was no existing fan. I installed the fan directly over the shower and vented to through the gable roof sidewall.

This fan was installed with a timer and work very well. The shower was in the shadows so it did not have very much light. This fan fixed the problem by both lighting the shower and the venting it all in one.

The restroom prior did not have a fan and the only ventilation was the window being open which did not work well. I hardly get any water condensation on the bathroom mirror with the fan on. Prior to this I had water running down the walls in the bathroom after a shower even with the window open and with it closed in the winter time – there was no ventilation.

The second one I replace an existing fan that vented to the roof – about 4 ft higher than the fan. The room is a larger room – 85 sqft and full bath. The existing fan was directly over the toilet fixture and I replaced in same spot.

Water condensation still builds up in the room and on the ceiling. I figure this fan is not working as good because it has to vent 4 ft higher than the other one. The house was built in the early 1970’s and this was the first bathroom fan replacement.

I’m planning on re-venting the fan to the gable sidewall to improve venting (lower pressure thus higher flow rate). I recently replaced just the fan portion at other properties. This fan is significantly better quality than other fans I replaced (only the fan portion and not a complete re-install.

This fan was a complete re-install. I’m glad I did this. Review was only 4 star because I have to rerun the vent to the sidewall to get better air flow in the second bath.

I had a older 50cfm model that was in my home since before I bought it ten years ago. I purchased this 80cfm and was able to swap the internals from the new on directly into the old one with just taking off one nut a pry of a screwdriver and two insulated wire nuts!!! By far easiest swap ever!!! This one is so much more quiet and was so easy to swap out! You forever have my business and I swear more company’s need to take note of how easy this was.

I’m a industrial mechanic and fight with stupidly engineered designs constantly but who ever designed this needs a hand shake where the others deserve a kick in the rear! Seriously thank you! 10 minute job tops!.

Fan was not too bad to install and performed well, but I did extra framing since the instruction had the fan attached to only one rafter and resting otherwise on the ceiling sheetrock, which I deem inadequate.

I also used sound installation where attached to rafters and sheetrock. The flapper above the grate does not seem to open and close well. This is not a problem since in the summer there is no harm in leaving it open and in winter I can keep it closed.

Perhaps in mounting the grate there is some stress on the flapper. I used a wired controller rather than the included wireless controller. This eliminated batteries. Furthermore I did not like the remote.

If one wants to turn it off after the timer expires, one has to hit the timer button 6 times (ugh). I replaced the wireless controller with a wired one which has the same number of count down timers but also a separate off button ($20 online).

The wiring at the ban box is simple. However, running wire down the wall to a controller and to a power source may be simple or difficult depending upon you house situation.

Super easy installation and great directions. Fan is powerful and fairly quiet. I had my door to the house cracked open and when I turned the fan on, it closed the door. It definitely moves some air! Extra long cord to plug into outlet and the remote fan switch is great.

This is a great exhaust system. Im not a DIYer and I installed this myself, with ease. Its perfect for garage work and for clearing out cigar smoke. It is relatively loud at the highest setting but not any louder than a regular house fan.

I teally like the fan its asential in a pet boarding for the air exchange keeps the pets heathy. I had one before and it lasted 20 years so this is my replacement one. Nice durable product.

I bought this fan to help ventilate our garage on line but opted for the in store pickup. The rough in measurements were 16 1/2 inches. The flange anchors the fan securely to the framing with no vibration.

The fan is not too loud considering it is in a garage. When it is running, I cannot hear it inside the house. We used a Ventamatic XXFIRESTAT thermostat in line with it so that it turns on when the temperature in the garage exceeds 85 degrees.

It turned out to be a much better fan then I expected. The quality is outstanding. My reason for this purchase is to build a Generator sound proof enclosure and this is perfect. Very happy I made this selection.

You can’t beat the price of this fan. The fan itself works great. I have it in a 16 x 20 shed/shop and it keeps the heat out enough to work in there on the heat of the day. The only problem is that when you turn off the fan the lovers don’t close all the way.

I just attached a length of string to the lovers and pull them closed. Also shipping was fast. It came in a sturdy box with no damage. I would recommend this to anyone.

The only issue is in almost all construction everything is 16 inch on center. It will not fit in a 14 1/2 opening. For me I just trimmed a have inch off the metal housing. I am sure I voided the warranty by doing that.

The damper could be a little tighter but it works good.

I ordered this as a direct replacement for my dead fan of the same model. I didn’t want to tear out my housing and go into the attic. I noticed that the fan can be separated from the housing and a new fan popped right into the housing! What a great design! Shipping was fast and great price.

My only issue is that at this price point the fan is on the louder side, but this is in a not often used guest bathroom. good value, easily swapped out for an already installed fan, and a bit loud.

It is a great product with very reasonable price. It is easy to install as well. I strongly recommend to get this product.

This was a replacement for a 40+ year old Air King of similiar size and capacity in the same location. Nothing on the pictures or the specifications for this exhaust fan clearly showed where the electric box area was on the new fan.

After I opened the box for the new fan and removed the old one, the box area was on the opposite (far side) from the old one and the electric wiring did not reach the box area on the new one. I needed to install an additional electic box in the rafters to pigtail electic wiring to reach the new box.

More effort than I was planning for. The exhaust fan works well and is somewhat quieter than the old one and the price was right.

The size kind of threw me off. It’s a bit larger than what it was replacing even though the cfm ratings were the same. It was well worth cutting a bigger hole in the sheetrock. This thing is ridiculously quiet.

And it moves a lot of air more efficiently that the old unit. I would have to leave the vent on for a few minutes after anyone showered with the old unit. Now the windows don’t fog up at all during the entire shower.

The 70 CFM energy star exhaust fan is mostly all that it states. Quiet rating, quietest I’ve yet installed and for an excellent price. Only problem I personally had was related to the Snap-In install.

Was difficult for my application if you have a type of bracing close to the top of the unit. You will need enough room above the fan to push it up to get it the snap in. Had to get into attic to enable snap-in.

Other then that somewhat unique situation, the fan unit is very good for the price point.

I bought two of these fans because I could not beat the price for the sound level and air movement they promise. I was putting them into bathrooms that never had fans, but were finished and painted. They are pretty quiet and moved air pretty well, but installing them into the clip requires forcing the clip open enough that you have to bend it back for it to hold.

I plan to use caulking on the second fan while propping it in position to hold it level because the first one sagged a little on the opposite side of the weakened clip.

I have installed three of these Delta Breez SLM50 fans in my house. They are not silent, but they are a LOT quieter than the old 20-year-old Broans they replaced. The old Broans were impeller-type fans and generated a louder, lower-frequency noise that we could hear pretty much anywhere in our 2-story house.

The new Deltas are squirrel-cage-type fans and generate a quieter, higher-frequency noise. If the bathroom door is closed and the bathroom fan is running, it’s hard to hear the fan from outside of the bathroom and we can’t hear it anywhere else in the house.

They are pretty easy to install if you are moderately handy. The new fan goes into the same size opening as the old fan, and the electrical and ducting connections are on the same sides as the old fan.

Because the Delta fan enclosure is smooth-sided (no lip or flange on its bottom edge), you can shove the new fan partially or fully up into the ceiling to make it easier to make the connection with the existing wires and ducting.

I did two of the three installs from below (without attic access) and one with partial attic access (I went in the attic to spray some foam insulation around the base of the enclosure to limit heat loss into the attic).

Getting the old Broan out of the ceiling isn’t too hard as long as you can get to the fasteners which hold it to an adjacent stud. The fan itself separates from the metal housing after freeing a couple of metal tabs, and the electrical connection comes free by unplugging a cord.

Once the fan unit is out, the enclosure can be freed once the fasteners are cut or removed. In my case the enclosure was fastened with screws that were accessible from within the enclosure, so it was easy.

In the past when I have replaced a fan where the fasteners were not easily removable, I slid the blade of a hacksaw between the enclosure and the stud to cut them (wearing gloves). With the power turned off, access the electrical connection, remove the wire nuts and pull the wires loose.

At this point you should be able to shift the enclosure around enough to get at the ducting connection. You will probably need to remove some old duct tape and maybe a screw or two holding the ducting to the enclosure and then you can pull the ducting loose and pull the enclosure down through the ceiling.

I used foil tape instead of duct tape to connect the fan to the exhaust duct. It makes a better seal and stays on better. Also, because there is no flange at the base of the fan enclosure, there can be a gap between the drywall and the fan enclosure if the hole in the ceiling is cut too large, as mine were.

To avoid heat loss, I used some foil tape to create a seal around the base (see picture) and for the installation on the top floor, i sprayed some foam insulation around the base from above. I’m happy so far.

I hate fan noise so it’s a huge relief to not hear the old Broans groaning throughout the house whenever one of them was running. This fan is a good value for the price and it’s a great improvement over the old Broans.

Builder grade Broan fan in our 5’x8′ half-bath was starting to die (long ramp-up to full speed), so I tried one of the Broan “”upgrade”” kits. It was easy to install but sounded horrible. Then I came across the SLM50 fan and decided to just replace the guts and keep the Broan housing and duct connection since I didn’t have attic access to it.

I found a winner! I followed “”Tbrooks007″” review from 8/16/16 that details how to replace the builder-grade Broan fan using three M10x3″” screws. It’s a great step-by-step and helped me install it in an hour.

Still not sure what a “”Sone”” is, but this is the best way I can describe the improvements. I had downloaded a dB meter app and took the following readings while in my ready-for-action position with the door closed.

I used it to give me a feeling between the different fans, more than an actual values comparison. – Fan off: 28dB – Old Broan Builder fan: 55-56dB (even tone, but bearable level) – Recent Broan “”upgrade”” replacement fan kit: 58-60dB (with a harsh, high-pitched whistle) – Delta SLM50 fan: 50-52dB (very pleasant, even sound.

Much quieter than the other two, for sure) So in the end, the Delta SLM50 is the best option (in my opinion). It takes a little more work to install but is worth the sound level improvement.

I replaced a 20+ year old 50 CFM 4 Sone Broan unit with this Delta BreezSlim 70 CFM 2 Sone unit. Overall the new unit was only a few db quieter. Total measured sound for the new unit is 24db. The BreezSlim G2 80/100CFM units are much much quieter if you have the space for one.

The duct flap on the BreezSlim 70 is cheap plastic and doesn’t seal well with the surrounding plastic duct housing. The flap kept falling off during installation. Installation was a pain as some parts stupidly screw in from the outside.

There was no seal included to block the area where the electrical power wires enters the chassis. Overall, the installation process was not well designed.

I have this fan for at least 5 years. Yes it’s true it’s very silent. I was even wonder if it’s was working! The one thing is that it’s very hard to clean the fan inside because of the light Not to happy about that.

Unit was installed in 3/4 bath (approximately 400 cubic feet) that was added to a finished house. Vent is adequate for the small space and works well and is quiet. Installation was straight forward. Four inch vent was easy to vent outside and wiring was roughed in during construction with separate switches for fan, main light and night light.

Only difficulty was getting the grill/lens to fit into unit. Had to bend the wire tips holding the grille to the unit which would not hold when you first hooked the grill to the unit and pushed it up into place.

After pushing up, to the ceiling, grill holds well and looks nice. A little concerned that the grill could fall when removing to change bulbs. Only disappointment has been the night light which (in my case) needs to have a little more light output than any bulb that I have found so far that fits.

This is a decent fan – I chose it to replace an existing fan of the same model – for some reason, this is the only fan that has these measurements, and I do not have the skills or tools to install a different sized fan.
