20 Best Eq Pedal For Guitar (2023 Updated)

This is a good product at the price. It covers all the frequencies alleged to be within audible range. There is a small amount of noise, but more expensive units do as well, you can even get op-amp kits to fix it, it is so noticeable apparently.

Not sure it quite does what I thought it would, but it does what Equalisers do, it boosts the frequencies you push the slider up for, and attenuates the frequencies you move the slider down for. The clicky button thing is just as clicky-clacky as any other pedal with that in it, and the only slightly odd feature is the trailing lead to which you attach the 9V battery, if you are not using a mains adaptor.

This calls for a degree of investigation, I can hardly believe there is not room inside this metal box for a PP9. Otherwise, sticky velcro pad to hold the PP9 to the side of the case, or a rubber band I guess.

No matter, it is obviously intended for home studio use, relatively big in size, maybe 1. 5 times other pedals I use. I wanted one that covered all frequencies, as it may not just be a guitar I use it for.

It works for the money, and is quiet enough. If you want small, then you go a different way, if you want solely guitar frequencies then the same may apply. For a general purpose EQ pedal it is a good choice.

Professional Tonal shaping will see you go way higher in cost than this, but that’s a different world.

I’m really digging this pedal! The EQ bands are very subtle but definitely noticeable which makes it a great pedal to use in a chain! Not all that noisy at all. One concern is that it does have a little jarring when the switch is thrown.

That is enough to scare some folks off. But I use it on all the time, or change in between songs so not a problem for me. Best methodology is to start all the way to the -12, -6 or zero db on each band and only turn it up as high as you need to to HEAR the change in dynamics for that frequency.

I almost always end up with some kind of natural curve, and that varies of course from amp to amp. This thing follows my clean tube preamp/compressor so it is great for putting individual freqs back in.

At the low price, you can’t go wrong. My buddy has the MXR. We’ve done the shoot out. the MXR is just louder (and with that, more noise) so no real advantage to spending the extra bread. Go for it!!!.

I have now bought two, for guitar and now for microphone. For hobby use they are fine, tailoring your sound, taking out unwanted frequencies etc. , and are very compact. I have no experience with professional equalisers which are way out of my price range.

These units have solved my sound problems.

I already had a cheaper 10 band EQ pedal but it was a bit noisy and this pedal has more headroom. I bought this to shape a perfect tone and volume profile for my acoustic guitar. I run a Gibson LP and a Taylor acoustic through the same pedal board and then into the mixer.

Using the M108S enables me to match the outputs of both guitars in the mix. I used to use different channels on a Katana 100 but kept forgetting to switch channels during a gig. The M108S is much better at shaping the Taylor’s tone than the Katana and the strong blue lights make it impossible not to know when it’s turned on.

I now don’t have to lug my Katana to gigs. Delivery time was faster than a fast thing going fast – Win!.

Bought this in place of a pre amp pedal I had for my bass. After a complete overhaul (New amp and pedals) I realised the pre amp pedal I add was there to add a little more attack to the sound. I did the sensible thing – offloaded the pre amp pedal and bought this.

Oh my word! What a revelation. The bottom end on my bass now is solid, it adds all the right elements to complete the sound through the amp. It helps maintain the integrity of the low frequencies when I use fuzz, distortion or overdrive.

Being able to cut the mids and boost at 800hz gives me the best sounding attack on bass. I love my Orange amp, but this has allowed me to fine tune and sculpt the sound further. Love it!.

Product is great. PMT however, are a bunch of crooks. Purchased from PMT Northampton, paid £117. 99, got home and noticed box says £104. 99. Thought the price must have gone up, no big deal. Then I noticed online it was £85!! Basically by going out of my way to support my local store, I got charged an extra £32.

99! Emailed PMT, was told they don’t normally price match (not really a price match when I’m asking them to match their own prices) but will provide me with a gift card for the extra I paid. Waited a few weeks and now given up waiting.

All I can say is, good luck PMT, you’ll need all the luck you can get with the way you guys conduct yourselves.

This pedal has become one of thee most important pedals on my board. It is fantastic. Very easy to use especially with my Boss ES-8 via midi. Just imagine being able to shape your tone with different pre-sets.

This pedal is extremely responsive. It is also great using the USB and the Source Audio Neuro App. I was able to perfect to my liking, all my Over Drive Sounds. I use a midi capable OD/Dist pedal so with EQ2 all my sounds are exactly how I want them.

You can save up to 128 presets. Which you will never do. However I have saved 16 different EQ settings. The pedal is small, a great solid build and just performs perfectly. I can’t say enough. After 40 years of playing this is truly a great and necessary pedal for my board.

This is the ultimate Eq ever, MIDI programmable, it has tons of features not available in any other pedal. Simply you can adjust the frequency of each band according to your needs , no other pedal can do this.

Simply get it you wont be disappointed at all.

Honestly, I didn’t really know what this pedal was about when I bought it. I even removed it from my board a couple of times before I settled on placing it at the end of the chain in order to attenuate the volume spikes caused by a defective AB/Y pedal.

Only recently have I begun experimenting with placing it immediately after my dirt in order to better shape the tones created by stacked ODs & fuzzes. Now I get it: this thing is a goddamned Swiss army knife.

Juicing it with 18v ups the headroom far and away, which is rad.

I got this eq to replace a dieing mxr 10 band. I went with a device that uses knobs instead of sliders to make it alot more simple to use. I just turn what ever knob i think my sound needs. i use this with a peavey valveking w/2×12 cab.

not only can It can add and remove treble, bass, mids just aswell as sliders do. But it has a level control that pushes the tube amp way more then the mxr has ever done. This is one pedal i cant live without, its incredibly versatile and tough.

And the graphics on it are killer! Cons: Only con i can think of is that i wish this came with an added gain control. Yeah it pushes my amps tubs to break up a tad, tho i find it could use just a bit more.

then again its meant to be an EQ pedal, not a boost /od. Oh and the led light is a extremely! bright!.

This has quickly become the most essential pedal I own as far as shaping my tone goes. It’s easy to adjust and I am very happy I bought it. I haven’t even tried running it on 18V power (which would give it even more characterization and juice) and I am still satisfied.

Every bit as good sonically as the Boss pedal that it’s designed to mimic. Usuable frequency bands, admirably rolls off boomy lows and cuts top-end noise from a noisy analog compressor. Small adjustments shape your tone as expected, boost/cut is clean and transparent as far as I can tell from DI and headphones (i have an active bass, so boosting my amp with it causes soft-medium clipping).

The sliders are very touch-sensitive and feel a bit fragile and everything’s plastic. If the build of other Behringer pedals is too flimsy for you, then this is certainly no good. The s If you want a “set it and forget it” pedal, it requires a gentle touch, but it should be OK.

For a live pedalboard, you might want a backup. or if you have the boss this could be the backup of last resort. I got this to use as a tweakable, “always on” high-pass filter to clean up signal ahead of an octaver in an effects loop.

for such tasks I would ecommend saving money and getting this disposably-cheap pedal.

Similar to the Berhinger EQ700, the BEQ700 is made for the bass. It has better receptivity than the EQ700 and can easily tweak upto the low B, drop tunings beyond that may give some trouble. Equalizers are great if you are not happy with your current tone or are looking for a ‘tone for an occasion’.

And are very supportive if you plan to record your jam either at home or in the studio. Berhinger gives you a decent equalizer to experiment at a very affordable price. It is the perfect first equalizer for people who are learning the dynamics of sound management.

The pedal would probably hum at very high volumes. so use accordingly or use a noise supressor. Berhinger is often misunderstood as being a cheap brand and that their equipment dont last. That is not true, they use quality material with respect to the price and hence should be handled with care.

Most of their pedals are similar to the roland boss pedals, which use the same circuitry but a metal body instead of a plastic one as in Berhinger. The price makes it perfect for beginners, or casual players.

A good bass equalizer pedal, gives a good solid bass sound that my amp alone can’t give. Makes playing my bass more enjoyable, and the pedal is excellent value for money.

I have been running my guitars through my TC Helicon Voice Live 2 because I love the on-board guitar effects. The problem is then I have my vocs and guitar out in the same channel (to mixer, recorder, etc.

) so I really had to decouple the guitar from the vocal processor. This pedal (the Saturation/Compression) with some reverb, comes very close, and sounds very nice. I also have the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI I use as well, and it sounds very nice.

I prefer to play unplugged acoustic just for the organic experience. When I plug in, it’s a Taylor 914ce and Taylor 816ce (both with Expression electronics) into a Roland AC90 Amp. This combination works really well for my ear.

The AC90 has excellent Chorus, Reverb and Delay while the Expression System is adequate, clean and elegant. Flexible and pleasing tones can be easily dialed in. BUT. there was always something missing.

that little extra tweaking ability. The LR Baggs Session Align is also very clean and elegant. I first became interested in the DI Session but found it too pricey for the benefit or the experimentation.

The Session Align has the two features I was looking for in the DI Session. Saturation and Compression for less money in a cleaner package. The Gain and Volume controls are very useful. It’s difficult to describe exactly what this pedal does for my tone other than it provides a little extra “space”, “warmth”, and smooths out the “barking”.

I’m very pleased with it. pleased with the extra tweaking it provides. A subtle but very noticeable improvement for my tone. I’ll play the same songs with and without it and definitely miss it when it’s not there.

It’s a keeper. High quality little box.

Perhaps EQ is not the most exciting of pedals compared to other effects, but this really does make an enormous difference to your sound and help you get the best from the rest of your gear. Boost the mids to stand out from bass.

Scoop the mids and boost bass/treble to sound like Metallica. Use the independent Level control as an overall volume boost (or limit – but who wants that?!) Extremely easy to set up and configure, in Boss’s usual bullet-proof format.

Highly recommended.

Top pedal that’s handy for boosting mids in a band scenario. Can also double as a boost using the ‘Level’ slider. I’d suggest looking into the classic noise issue these can be known for (on YouTube), but I tend to only notice it when a slider is over-exagerrated and its never an issue when using it in a fairly normal fashion.

All in all a great pedal a one of the best I’ve ever owned. Recommended!.

I’ve been working on a new pedal board and needed a) a buffer in front of the board to preserve the highs b) an easy way to adjust the guitar input level of my stereo rig, so that when I changed guitars I could compensate for pickup strength without fiddling with the gain on two amps c) I did not want to give up pedal board real estate.

I’m building a smaller board. I strongly considered using an EP-Booster up front and found a used one but then I realized it was version 1 so i could not dial in unity gain. That was important because that’s my reference point for the various guitars I will plug into the front of it.

Otherwise it gets confusing. For example you’ll have to dial it up and keep your stat’s volume knob on 10, while you’ll have to dial it back down to 0 yet still get a 3db boost) and then you’ll still keep your SG’s volume knob on 0.

5 or 0. 75 LOL I love the sound of the EP-Booster but I needed v2 so I returned it and decided to find a v2. Then I ran into this. I compared it side by side with a TC Electronics spark mini boost. They were both very quiet and as you dial them up you heard more hiss from the amp of course.

But the beauty if this little EQ is that you can dial that hiss away, and you can boost the mids or the low end and dial in the EP booster type sweet fatness you want. Think of it this way, This is an 18db clean boost buty 6 tone controls! Well worth the money.

I don’t expect it to last forever for this price, but it’s inexpensive, very versitile and does what I need it to do. And it helped me experiment with eq in various different parts of the pedal board that I never could easily slide an EQ into.

So this is the first real review of this thing. Belive me I looked for them. I recommend this pedal. Not only is it inexspensive, its also small and versitile. Another bonus is that it’s so small you can fit it almost anywhere on your board.

It turned out that it doesn’t sound good in front of a Fulltone Plimsoul, cause the Plimsoul’s manual even says it prefers to be the first in the chain to react to the pickups high impedence to give you the best dynamics.

So now I have this 2nd after hte Plimsoul. If I want to shape the eq of the distortion, bam it’s easy to put a mid range boost on top of the mids the plimsoul will give. And if I just want a flat eq with a 0 to 1 db boost, I just bend over and move the siders.

Perfect! Just what I needed.

Oaktron speakers rock! Hard to find anymore though. Found a 4 inch one in my REV. That is very powerful and full range too.

solid case. mini format means less eq sliders, but the frequencies chosen work well. No apparent induced distortion. This is now resident on my board. Great!

Lots of guitarists don’t understand compressors, they’re not sexy, and they don’t do “Grrrr, honnnnnnkk, bzzzzzzt”. However, play the Kongpressor. Plug it in, put everything at 12 o’clock, and kerrang some open chords.

At this point, you’ll do that lip-pursing “This sounds good” thing, and begin to tweak. Dial up the Chime control and begin to live in the 60s. Finally, stump up £100 for this pedal. There is no better compressor for the guitar than this.

The attack and release feel like they don’t do much, but they do. It can boost your tone, it can brighten it, up, it introduces a ‘sag’ type of sound, rather than a squashed sound. Look, if you’re reading this, you want a compressor.

Buy this compressor. It’s the best, it sounds so fantastic, and it’s the best pedal. It’s the best.

I knew I wanted an optical compressor for my live pedal board and there aren’t that many out there. Every brand that makes an optical compressor pedal is probably a decent choice but I chose Orange because of their overall reputation throughout the years.

I am not disappointed at all!! I was concerned about it not having a “blend” knob bc that seems to be a staple these days to get that dynamic parallel compression sound but this pedal sounds so good that you don’t even need it!! If you know what you’re listening for, this will exceed your expectations for that perfect studio quality optical sound.

A very powerful EQ pedal that can help to sculpt many sounds between guitar & amplifier. From snarling mid boosts for sustain & leads to scooped rhythm tones & boosted highs. The list is almost infinite & personal presets can be saved & recalled quite easily.

Because this is a digital EQ it is quiet, adding no noise into my signal chain unless I raised the ‘level’ which increases drive when in front of the amp. (As fantastic as the Boss GE-7 is, I find it quite noisy at high volume when in line with a tube screamer) There are many ways of connecting to the Boss EQ-200 (Series, parallel, amp input, FX loop) My preferred setup is to run EQ1 into the front of the amp to shape guitar tone, & EQ2 through the series FX loop to boost for solos.

When run through the FX loop the ‘level’ slider on the Boss EQ-200 adds (or subtracts) volume to the amps output. An additional foot switch (single or double) also allows the user to switch between the 1 x Manual & 4 x Memory Banks giving easy access to 10 EQ settings.

I must admit I’m quite the ‘technophobe’ when it comes to software based gear but after experimenting with the switch settings etc. (& some help from YouTube) it didn’t take me long at all to set this pedal up as I desired.

“Do not be afraid” This pedal is powered by 3x AA batteries which only last for approximately 6 – 8 hours (presumably because of the digital nature of the unit?) Therefore I would advise using a good quality power supply.

Quite simply the Boss EQ-200 is one of the most powerful & versatile pedals for both live performances & recording.

Sound: This pedal does what it needs to do, and does sound good. I have run into no phase issues with it, although I doubt it has linear phase processing. The EQ channels aren’t super skinny like on the Whirlwind, but they are usefully voiced.

I imagine you will be able to change the Q and stuff like that with future updates. It has a very decent sounding 32 bit ADA converter in it, but it does add a digital-ness to the signal. It sorta squares out the low end (which can be a good thing) and can make the high end a little harsh if you are boosting a lot.

Not every player will be bothered by this (I wasn’t) but if it does you are better served by an analog EQ. I find that in the effects loop of an amp this is less noticeable, especially the high end harshness.

Features: The main feature of this is digital recall of presets with real eq faders for on the fly adjustments. From what I can tell it is the only graphic eq pedal out there right now that can do this besides the discontinued Boss EQ20.

The Source Audio offerings are great but they are difficult to make adjustments on. And the Boss is the only one that runs on batteries! Great if you are using it for bass and don’t want a pedalboard to lug around.

If you are in a Pink Floyd cover band then this thing is obviously for you. You can set up two EQs in series or parallel, or have one in your pedalboard chain and one in your amp’s effect’s loop. Or, in a loop with just certain pedals.

This makes it fantastic for recording. It’s getting a lot more use in the studio for me than I anticipated. It can do all kinds of crazy stuff with midi but that’s beyond my needsHowever, it has two main determents.

One, you can’t go from one patch to another and back again without an external footswitch or midi. You have to plan things out if you want to use it live and have seamless switching. The other problem is that editing patches can be kinda confusing since the faders aren’t motorized.

The LCD screen helps, but it’s pretty small and doesn’t look like the actual graph on the pedal. I realize that ten tiny motorized faders is a lot to ask for but this is a design compromise that the Source Audio doesn’t have.

Ease of Use: It was very easy for me to just plug and play this. I would say that I rarely needed to boost or cut over 3 dB- I wish you could adjust the range of the faders to get more precise sounds.

Possible with a software update I guess. Quality: This is Boss, so you know it is built very well. I really like the design of the new 200 series dual pedals. It’s a much lower profile than the older 20 series dual pedals and seems hardier as well.

You could fight off several zombies with this as a weapon for sure and it would still work afterward. This enclosure seems to be the toughest design Boss has come up with yet, which is really saying something.

Value: The main competitors of this are the Whirlwind offerings and the Source Audio EQ pedals. They are all about the same price. The Whirlwind has a sound advantage but I haven’t actually heard it in person to compare.

The bass version might actually be worth the large size and awkward power supply. The Source Audio has some legs up on the Boss, but it is kind of a pain to change settings. However, you can hook that up to your computer or phone and run it like a plugin in a DAW which is pretty insane.

I wonder if Boss will offer features like that in the future for the EQ200? The software on this pedal can be updated which has potential. The Boss offers three different EQ ranges but you can’t adjust them beyond that.

Plus, this is a global setting and can’t be saved with each patch. However, the Boss is way easier to navigate feature-wise than the SA. I feel like the EQ200 is a good compromise between the SA and Whirlwinds that are out there.

If you aren’t down to spend $250 on a ten band EQ pedal, you should go with one of the MXR ones out there. Manufacturer Support: The great thing about Boss is that you rarely ever need support from them because their stuff is built so well and is usually simple enough to understand without a manual.

They have been helpful to me in the past, but not the fastest company to respond to inquiries. The Wow Factor: EQ pedals aren’t for everyone, but if you are obsessive about getting the right tone, you should give them a try.

I got this primarily for bass, and the slightest adjustments finally nailed what I need to do. My band is loud and distorted, and the bass needs to fill out everywhere that it shouldn’t be in the way.

It’s cool being able to have one setting for the pedal chain and another for the amp’s effect’s loop. That alone makes this thing more powerful than anything else out there. I think it’s worth the money.

Some way to better recall the faders (led strips down each channel?) and a more powerful range of frequencies would be great, and I’d pay more for those for sure. Right now the only real downside is the one-way patch switching, which can be mitigated with an external footswitch.

Overall: This is probably the best EQ pedal out there when you take into account features and price. A complex pedal like this is going to have shortcomings but if you know you need something like this, this is probably the one to get.

Boss EQ-200, based on reviews I wanted to give it a try. However, my first intention was to use it not for my guitar but as a Microphone input EQ. I’ve been looking for a dedicated microphone EQ and didn’t what to have to purchase an entire amp system or a unit of larger size that only adjusted Low – Mid – High range.

Based on some buyers feedback, I figured I give it a try. I can report that it worked great and I was surprised on how much I was able to improve vocal output. It did such a great job with the microphone I decided to buy a second unit for my guitar.

Using it with guitar I found it was much more difficult to fine tune and shape the sound of the guitar output to my satisfaction. I think if the slider had twice the travel it likely would be a big improvement.

Still, it’s was obvious that with more practice it likely will be a very useful tool. Also, the fact you could save 4 setting as presets was Great. BUT WAIT! Roland/Boss just updated the firmware so that you can now save 200 presets.

For me that much more than I will ever use, but you can program the unit to have much less so that you don’t have to scroll through more than you need. I do feel it’s a bit over priced for an EQ pedal but based on the reviews and it’s feature it’s a nice unit to have.

It might be even be THE Unit to have.

Built very solid, this pedal really does do what it says it will do. I like the fact that besides the 10 bands it also has a Volume slider and a Gain slider. This makes this one very versatile pedal.

Easy to operate, Simple to understand, Very quiet signal processing and it comes with it’s own power supply rather than sold separately. I can see why they hold their resale value on ebay. I put mine on top of the amp and run it through one of my loops so it is much more convenient than having it on the pedal board.

But, either way works just fine. It’s great for room shaping when moving from one venue to another and tweaks my guitar tone perfectly every time. Very little movement on the sliders produce quite a bit of adjustment so there is always plenty of headroom in all frequencies.

Would buy it again. Would recommend it highly. You will be happy with it. I also like the way the sliders light up making it much easier to use in a dark environment. Plus the lights on the frequency sliders switch on and off with the foot switch so you can tell if it’s on or not.

The Volume and Gain sliders are always lit so you can see there is power to the unit weather in use or not.

When researching this pedal, I felt that it would help clean up my clean channel and also tighten up my distortion/overdrive. I must say that I was impressed of the different sounds you can get by using the 10 band equalizer sliders.

However most of the sounds and total qualities that you can get from this pedal I do not use. I don’t want to make my guitar sound like it is on a. m. radio, nor do I want my guitar to sound really fuzzy.

The only thing that saved this pedal was the booklet that came with it. The booklet had four examples of settings for the pedal. I tried all of them and found that I like two of the four. One thing everyone must realize is that this pedal can distort/overdrive your sound.

It can produce a crunch if you set it the right way. Before owning this pedaI did not know that. I guess I was in the market for something to clean up my tone, not produce a tone. I would say that this is nice to fool around with if you get bored or if you want to record something different.

However I cannot recommend this as a mainstay on a pedal board for live performances or anything of that nature.

Love my SG but it’s a short jump from dark to muddy and this eq makes all the difference. The volume and gain controls allow you to get the exact tone/volume/presence/sound you want. Is the only pedal i use for rhythm and it stays on all the time.

I’d never used an eq before and while you probably will spend some time getting it just right it’s pretty simple once you see how it works. The settings in the instruction manual are fine but i think the best thing to do is set everything at zero and adjust from there.

Left side is lows, right side is highs and you just bring out whatever is lacking in your tone now. You won’t regret getting one of these.

I have the mxr 7-band EQ in my studio, and it works great. I was looking for an EQ for my live setups, and wanted one with a master volume fader, so I gave the 10-band version a try. I was disappointed with the sound.

The high end seemed a little harsh, and lacking in transparency. For the low frequency zone there was no fader at exactly 100 Hz–which is, in my opinion, a critical frequency. The led lights on the faders are blindingly bright.

I could not read the frequency markings for the faders without turning off the EQ function. That’s pretty inconvenient. You’ve got ten frequencies to control, plus gain and volume faders, and you can’t see what you’re doing when the unit is engaged.

I don’t know what the designers were thinking. For me, the bottom line is that this might be a workable unit for studio applications. You’ve got a lot of dynamic control over a lot of frequency bands, and maybe the unit sounds better with amps other than mine.

But I think it would be a problem on stage, trying to find the right fader for a subtle adjustment when you can’t see past the blinding blue lights.

I have confessed in other reviews that I am a pedal junkie. If I had purchased one of these equalizers before I purchased all of my pedals, I would probably have a lot less pedals. I don’t really consider this an effect pedal, although it will definitely affect your tone.

This has quickly become an “always on” pedal for me. The metal tone that I used to think was completely brutal now sounds weak and lethargic without it. It can be sparkly clean or dirty and crushing.

Welcome to chug city! Complete game changer for me – took my board to a whole new level! I love the fact it has two out jacks allowing me to use it with two amps. Going through a Quilter 101 and a modded Fender Champ, both 212 cabs loaded with WGS speakers.

Makes my Matchless amp go from great to incredible! I’m finally able to get closer to the sound I have always imagined than ever before. Powered by MXR iso brick, no problems. The lights are ridiculously bright, but there are only about a million ways to get around that.

There is a new invention called a MAGIC marker that can help, or check youtube for more technical solutions. If you are into building a board, this should be one of the first pedals to put on it, I doubt you will be sorry.

I’ve been chasing my tone for well over 30 yrs and this is the closest I’ve ever come to getting it dialed. If ya can’t tell, I would absolutely recommend this to a friend, or anyone!.

I wanted a versatile EQ with actual sliders for easy adjustments. It has plenty of frequencies to choose from and dual outputs. Gain and Output sliders are also a plus. If you want a simple, low noise EQ, this is it.

The only little negative I have is the size, but it can’t be helped. Just to be aware when adding to a cluttered pedal board.

I have fallen in love with this pedal. Here’s why: I am an upright bass player. During a performance, I will use a bow (arco) and also play Bluegrass and Rock ‘N Roll slap bass. I use an Upton Revolution Solo pick-up into a Fishman Bass Platinum ProEQ preamp, which sounds fantastic.

The problem was that I needed a different EQ setting for slap bass than I needed for arco. With the slap, you want to boost your highs a bit so your “click” from the slap and “snap” from your plucks sounds correct amplified.

However, if you leave your highs boosted when you switch to arco, you get this horrible rosin sound that makes your hairs stand up on your neck, and not in a good way. A better way to put it is that the sound coming from your amp (or PA system) sounds nothing like the sound you hear from your bass.

Enter the Boss GEB-7 Bass Equalizer Pedal. I put it before my Fishman in the chain (bass pickup to Boss EQ to Fishman to Korg Pitchblack tuner). I set the Boss EQ to eliminate the high hiss I get with the bow and engage it when I switch to arco.

I leave it off when I’m slapping. It has made my live performance life so much easier. That’s why I love this pedal. It’s easy to obtain a tone you want. When it’s off, it’s silent. It’s exactly what I needed.

I have always looked to get a warmer, more open tone from most of my basses, but I never realized how much precise control over the different frequencies can make. I am not into distortion for bass at all, so a few people suggested this unit.

I am so glad I bought it! It enables you to custom tailor the sound of your bass more than you could imagine. One of my basses is an Epiphone Jack Casady, which is a warm, woody-sounding bass to begin with, but run through the Boss GEB-7, you can make it sound even warmer and open.

I have found that boosting the lowest slider control just a little, and then boosting the mids to taste gives me the sound I like. I also use it with a custom Jazz bass and an Ibanez BTB. You have to experiment with the unit, because it responds a little differently to different pickups and between passive and active instruments, but it always helps.

I use it to get a warmer sound, but it will also give you a harder, in-your-face metal tone. You just have to experiment with it a little. I never realized such a simple, inexpensive unit would due so much to change a bass’ tone.

It can also boost your signal, so it’s the first step towards distortion if you want that. This is a great unit! Buy one! Thank you, Boss, and thank you, Raymond in the Manhattan store for recommending this.

I have the MXR 10 Band. It has more control. It has lots of lights. Its good for acoustic but for live bass, more is not really better. This gets you close enough for live without a lot of fiddlin and diddlin.

More intuitive than a parametric. Its solid. It has indents at the 0. Put it on top of your amp (not on the floor) to tweek as needed during sound check or later when you need to add more mids because the keyboard player/drummer drown you out.

Sounds fantastic. Pretty much every pedal you would want, compact, easy to use, and very affordable. If you’re a touring musician, this probably wouldn’t take the place of all those specific pedals you love, but for everyone else, this totally covers all the bases.

This and a volume pedal is all I need. I’m selling my other pedals, which kind of says it all. Since it doesn’t come with a power adapter, I recommend the iSpot 9v adapter by Virtual Sound. It is a high quallity unit that works great, and should last you years.

Also, the cord is long enough that won’t have to deal with an extension cord getting in the way. With the iSpot you can also purchase their “Multi-plug 5” cable that allows you to connect multiple boxes, but in my case, since my volume pedal is not powered, I don’t need it.

While I’m doing this review, let me also give a shout out to the Joyo JW-03 wireless guitar system, which sounds great for any practice situation, and totally cuts out the hassle of having to deal with a cable.

I wouldn’t use it live, just cause why not get the best sound out of your amp that you can, but for practicing, I absolutely love it. And I think it was only about $40. Lastly, a good tube amp does make all the difference.

This effects unit sounds GREAT with my Fender Blues Jr. Since the Mooer has stereo outputs, your rig could be two smaller tube amps and the Mooer, giving you a really nice three dimensional sound.

It’s a quality pedal. Clean sounds are very good. Too many so so distorted sounds. Capable of lots of tweeking. Nice clear screen. Good easy looper. Software/firmware updates poorly explained. Live use hampered by not being able to jump to different patches easily.

A few tweeks from manufacturer could make this a great box. As it is it’s good value pedal but not a geat pedal. Do your homework.

Have owned one of these for a couple of years now. I use it for grit overdrive – the dirt knob usually between 8 and 11 o’clock. Just enough for some grit/edge. Yays:- The most authentic/articulate/natural dirt sound of any drive pedal I have ever used in 30+ years of playing.

– the EQ is great (but you need it; see below in the nays)- excellent punch tone for single note heft. Picking/riffing is well suited with it. – Size is pedal-board friendly. Nays:- EQ sliders are flimsy plastic – very easily broken right off (and I have unfortunately done so, multiple times).

The pedal is built like a tank but the sliders are not. And you need those LEDs because they tell you if the pedal is on or not. – flat-EQ tone: the strong klon-inspired mid-hump is over-the-top at the expense of the rest of the spectrum.

I find I need to make a deep V shape with the sliders to tame the mids, with the bass slider slightly above flat and the treble sliders way above flat, to rescue a decent rhythm tone. And this is with single-coil US Telecaster and a Ric 330, where neither guitar is known for needing more treble or lower mid content.

I would imagine a humbucker would need even more mid-down and treble-up with it. The low-gain grit is top-notch – you would swear there were tubes inside the can. The tone however is too mid-focused, leading to a small, nasal sounding tone rhythm tone that requires a deep V in the EQ sliders to liven up, and even then compared to other pedals, it sounds small and nasal.

The tone IS favorable though for riffing, as single notes benefit from the epic mid strength – it brings single notes out in a band setting with authority.

I bought this because I was looking for an equalizer pedal and MF was selling it as part of their deal of the day. I wasn’t exactly looking for another overdrive pedal, but it checked all the boxes for me: High quality build, compact design, good tone.

I’ve never had a pedal before that I always left on, but now this is that pedal for me. I’m using it as a slightly overdriven boost and it provides enough control to get a fatter sound at lower volumes.

It gives my tube screamer a little more oomph that it’s missing. I love the switch – it’s not a loud click, but not a silent, cheap feeling click either. I also love that the eq sliders glow when it’s on.

With all that said, I’m torn on whether I would recommend this at the current retail price. I would guess there are some better options at this price point, and the resale value on Reverb does not seem to hold compared to other pedal makers.

I don’t plan on selling it, but it’s something to be aware of. I’m not usually a boutique pedal guy either though, so take that with a grain of salt.

I primarily like to use the Orange Two Stroke pedal to have extra control over my high gain tone. I found this pedal to be very useful as a clean boost with two adjustable eq bands allowing you to push your amps harder and also shape the sound coming your guitar before the Amplifier input.

Recently I’ve also used it in the fx loop to sometimes scoop out a little bit of mid range on amps that tend to sound boxy or to brighten a very dark sounding amp. I’ve even used it after distortion pedals to further modify the sound.

The parametric eq really allows you to sweep through the frequency spectrum to find the particular frequency ranges that may sound unpleasant to your ears and easily reduce them. Using this pedal with my favorite amplifiers allows me to take my high gain tones from being maybe a 7 or a 8 on my own scale to being a 9 or a 10, as it really makes me feel like I have complete control and the ability to shape my sound as I desire.

Also this pedal apparently has an internal charge pump which doubles the operating voltage to 18v, allowing for increased headroom. This is very helpful especially when you’re boosting frequencies as it reduces the potential for unpleasant distortion and overloading of the signal.

Compared to other equalizers I’ve tried in the past (which were mostly graphic equalizers), I found the sound quality of the Orange Two Stroke to be very clean and clear but effective. It’s been my favorite eq so far for shaping and customizing high gain tones! And I’m sure there are many other ways the Two Stroke could be used in addition to how I’ve utilized it.

I hope to always have one of these in my collection, or maybe even two or three!.

Overall: I’ve had this pedal a year+ now and I can say without question this pedal is way more functional than I thought It would be. The boost to push pre-distortion is awesome nice clean boost no coloring.

The eq functions are very flexible and let me dial in basically any sounds I’m hunting. Seems like a simple pedal but it does a lot to shape your sound without being a full blown rack mount eq eating up space.

Bought this to fine tune my tone a little. Works great to get your sound just right. Along playing with it, figured out you can use it as a boost also for a good solo with some extra volume. Love everything from Boss.

This is the perfect size eq pedal for my application. I recently purchased a small Bad Cat cougar 5-watt tube amp with 3- very basic controls: volume-master-tone which works fine. but it has a Nice effects loop.

so I put this very road worthy Mxr m109 6- band eq in the loop. Wow. what a upgrade. This really let’s me find the sweet spots with my single coil and bucker equipped guitars. great job mxr. also gets the Celestion vintage 30 growling easier at friendly levels.

Perfect. For a 6- band eq pedal I was very happy with the results for the slider frequencies. Built solid. A keeper.

Well, I just got the pedal, but I have previous experience with equalizer pedals (I had a Danelectro for two years) and I can tell the mxr does the job very well. It beats the Danelectro in the overall construction (the pedal is virtually indestructible) and because the sliders have LEDs, so they glow in the dark and make adjusting onstage much easier.

Very responsive sliders, which act in important frequencies, so you can really shape your sound the way you want. Extremely useful to whomever plays in different amps very often, as myself. The only thing I miss is a volume slider (which I consider very important), that’s why I rated it 4 out of 5.

But, despite this flaw, it’s a very good pedal at a very good price.

Good tool to sculpt tone preamp or post amp in the effects loop. Don’t expect extreme adjustments but small ones from these type of pedals. People think you can plug in a pedal and it’s going to instantly change a tone but from my experience most never work like that.

Mxr is a good brand with well made products, you get what you pay for.
