20 Best Diesel Fuel Injector Cleaner (2023 Updated)

I bought my 2006 F250 diesel three years ago when it had 100,038 miles on it. It now has 252,000 miles and I’ve never had the injections cleaned because I regularly use Stanadyne injector cleaner. I do a lot of towing and have my truck serviced like clockwork.

I consider adding injector cleaner part of my maintenance program.

Used it every other tank fill since my 2015 F-350 was born. I have 190,000 rough miles on my truck and never had any injector problems. I believe Stanadyne works (but I know someone will probably say just because I use Stanadyne my injectors haven’t had problems).

I believe in the product and will use it for the life of my truck.

A few things about Auto Zone in General. They are always very helpful. Their counter service is always great. I have ordered parts in the past from them and have always gotten them on time or early. Great Job Auto Zone.

Thought I would give this a go. Read over 300 reviews, 98 % positive. Ex mechanic, I’m a bit of a sceptic regarding additives. Have used another well known brand with good results. In all honesty, Lucas wins hands down.

My vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Prado 3. 0 diesel with 258,000 km. Just finished a round trip from Sydney to Melbourne return totally 2,500 km. Car started better, ran smoother as I am also using Lucas Oil Stabiliser & was an even better pleasure to drive than it normally is.

I am now a Lucas convert. Lucas products perform as advertised.

I use this in all my vehicles. Also use the oil additive. Best products out there. All of our cars that we have used this in all lasted for almost 200 thousand miles. Our 2005 Honda van involved in accident 192,000 miles, 2009 Sonata gas line corrasion still drove well with 187,000 miles had to junk still ran excellent though.

This stuff works well. I drive a 2009 Cummings Diesel with well over 200,000 miles on it and my injectors have always performed beautifully. I have been putting this in my tank at least every other tank full.

I definitely recommend this to anyone that drives a diesel.

this product really works out of all the ones I’ve tried this when you can feel a real kick in the pants in the engine pickup. Throttle response is better. I’m on about 3 tanks of gas after using this and I can definitely tell it’s not in there now.

The engine did not revert back to unclean feeling it just the cetane boost is definitely noticeable.

I went to the Lucas Oil website and read the description of the product and what it was suppose to do. I have used other Lucas products before and I have always been happy with the results. So, I decided to give this a try.

The website indicates that it is to help clean soot and particulates out of the engine. It also states that it helps to reduce deposits in the Diesel Particulate Filter. I have a 2006 Jetta TDI and it is old enough that it does not have a particulate filter.

But, it does occasionally blow out black smoke under heavy acceleration. I put this into the tank at fill-up. I noticed that the engine ran smoother, but did not think about it any more. Until, one day, I had to accelerate hard getting away from a stop light.

And, to my amazement, there was no cloud of black smoke coming out of my exhaust. The VW TDI diesel is an awesome engine. I normally get 40 mpg with regular diesel fuel. After using this product, I now get 46 mpg.

The website recommends that it be used in the fuel each time that you change the oil. But I use it at each fill up, and I continue to get excellent fuel mileage and smoke free exhaust.

Used this product in my son’s truck. He had been using a different product. It corrected the misfire he had been having in his truck due to a dirty fuel system. The shape of the Lucas Diesel Deep Clean fits perfectly into the fuel tank opening.

Son used the entire bottle of Lucas Oil Deep Clean, 16 ounce bottle for every 30 gallons of diesel fuel which improved the acceleration in his 2016 Diesel truck. It also improved NOx emissions. Will be using this product instead of his other go to product.

Makes for a Great Cleaning Additive.

Purchased two bottles for our suburban. Cylinder 1 had a bad misfire. Swapped coil and plug wire from another cylinder – same result. Tried another brand of injector cleaner – same result. Was going to take it for an injector replacement, but decided to give it one more try with 2 bottles of the royal purple from Canadian tire.

Our tank was under 3/4s. Well after about 200 km of driving to our cottage, the misfire is gone. Everything is good. Highly recommend this product. Cheaper than a mechanic working on it.

Best Cleaner I have put in my car, owned the same car for 9 years (2013 chevy impala ltz) and the quality improvement from this cleaner alone is immediately noticeable. I generally would put royal purple oil inside of my car and to be honest thats a whole different discussion of love and hate, but this particular cleaner is beautiful! no pings, no hesitations, and better performance, from a bottle of “snake oil” (yet it’s not, it’s legit!) -Roxwell Z (Musician Artist, entrepreneur – Find me anywhere you like music) This is a real review! Cylinder misfire. Not coil or plug. Dirty injector. tested the coil packs. getting flashing engine light. Code 306 engine misfire. I added 2 6 OZ of this to 10 gals gas. Long drive and much Hard acceleration.

Resulting in no codes. Better idle Ie short and long term fuel trim. 1. 5 MPG increase.

Was told about Hot Shots product line but was not sure about the hype. Have a 2004 6. 0 F250 with 200K on it. Don’t drive it much anymore and started having rough idle until warmed up. It got worse to the point it was throwing imbalance in an injector codes for 1 and 7.

Added the fuel treatment and while popping the hood to add oil treatment I could already tell it was idling better. Add the oil treatment drove 20 miles home and its like a different truck. Will be adding this to a preventative maintenance plan for certain.

1300. 00 for a set of injectors from rock auto was cheapest I could find so all day and Sunday this additive is cheaper than anew set of injectors. Call it PFM if you want, but it works as advertised.

I purchased a 2000 Isuzu NPR with the 4. 8L 4HE1 diesel. It smoked heavily upon start up, would not idle on all four cylinders when cold (hence the heavy plumes of unburned diesel) but would finally finally become smoke free once hot.

I took a chance and bought the truck assuming that at worst I’d need to buy new injectors. I tried Diesel Extreme at it’s recommended dosage and would start the truck every day and let it idle for 30 minutes for a week.

Each day it started easier and smoked less and this was in January. After that tank of treated fuel there was a night and day difference but still one cylinder was stubborn to fire but now only for a few minutes.

I added DE one more time months and tanks later and that time that last cylinder finally started firing right away. Perhaps any diesel fuel treatment would have done the same, I don’t know but I do know that Diesel Extreme worked for me.

Indiana #2 fuel is questionable, makes for noisy injection and poor economy hot or cold. With low sulfur fuels already posing a risk to the trucks running a CP4 common rail fuel pump, dilution is not ideal! Adding this product at recommended strength, then at double strength on a following full tank, reduced some of the injector rattle encountered and gave peace of mind.

Temps ranged from 32°F to 90, rattle was encountered regardless of temp even after 4000 miles on indiana roads in less than 2 weeks.

I bought a 2016 F250 Super Duty with the 6. 7 Powerstroke this year, and since it’s my first diesel in 40 years of driving I’ve been doing a lot of research about it. I noticed that it seemed to clatter and rattle on acceleration quite a bit after I’d used up the dealer’s initial tank of fuel, and quickly discovered it wasn’t the truck – it was the sorry diesel we get around here.

Since a Cetane booster product is almost a necessity with our fuel, I’ve been using the Motorcraft product. However, it is just a cetane booster, nothing else. The Gold Eagle DieselPower product is not only a cetane booster, but also an anti-gel additive, all for about the same price.

It works great, making the engine run smooth and quiet. I can get almost 21 mpg on the highway using this product, and for a 7500 lb truck with a stock 400 cu in motor, I feel like that’s a pretty good testimonial to how well it’s running with the Diesel Power additive.

I have a 2008 Kubota BX25 Tractor, purchased new and very well cared for. It now has about 1100hrs on it and I began having an issue with starting. When the engine is cold (first start-up) it would not start unless I advanced the throttle to around 20% – then it would start fine and run good – even at idle.

Would not start at all with throttle at idle, which had never been a problem in the past. Figured it was probably a dirty injector. So I added a few ounces, as it only has a 6 gallon tank and ran the tractor for half a day.

This morning, with a cold engine, I gave it a try at idle and YES! – it started right up. Seems to idle smoother too. I am definitely happy and will start using this on a regular basis to keep her running like new.

Good cheap insurance!.

I run a small fleet of diesel delivery trucks for a furniture store. We tried this in one of the older trucks, an ’07 International 4300 in the winter. The drivers said the truck seemed to warm up faster and idle smoother.

I’m not sure if it improved fuel mileage but it certainly did not hurt. I intend to use this product monthly on the older units to see if it will improve mileage over a longer trial period.

I had tried other products and they didn’t clean as they said. An AutoZone Employee in GA suggested I start using Lucas deep Clean. First time I used it My check Engine light was on. I used it on my next fill up.

2 miles down the road the light went out. Lucas Deep Fuel System Cleaner I use EVERY three Fill ups, Especially after long Highway rides.

great product, been using it for years in both of my trucks ever since fuel went ultra low sulphur. did not get 5 stars, because i want to make it known, the price increased approximately $2. 50 and the content decreased again, by 16 oz.

from 80 oz to 64 oz. i guess they figure since you can’t afford to fillup, you won’t need as much.

Have been using this and other Diesel Kleen products in my Duramax for 8 years. Very happy with the results, especially the extra lubricity and injector cleaning properties that standard crappy diesel fuel does not have.

This is the best-selling diesel fuel additive. I have an F250 Lariat and saw the big bottle as a bargain. It’s NOT resealable where it won’t leak so the smaller bottle will be better.

I bought an Acrua RDX 2016 Advance with 150K miles. Note the vehicle has been maintained from day zero in Acura Dealership. The engine felt a bit jerky, and as I haa a bottle of Chevron Techron I poured it when filled the gas first time.

I also changed the air filter and cleaned the air intake sensor. The engine sounded and responded a bit bette, but what I expected, as I owned Acuras prior to this one. Anyway, today I went to Exxon gas station and poured one bottle of purple in it, and then refuled the tank with the supreme gas.

Wow! The engine almost immediately “changed the sound” and it is so responsive now. Too early to tell about the mileage, as I drive in the stop and go traffic mainly, and Acuras are so bad in this type of traffic, but will report on it.

Definitely buying two more bottles while on the rollback! I am amused and cautious, but this thing could be for real!.

I bought a 2005 Dodge Magnum with only 30k miles a month ago that had sat for more than 2 years. I changed the oil and drove it for a bit to make sure everything was good and put about 500 miles on it averaging 12MPG.

I poured one bottle of this Royal Purple Max-Clean and ran the whole tank and noticed quite a change during that tank of fuel. The car started running better, and the MPGs steadily increased to above 15 MPGs.

Once I was through the tank f fuel with this stuff, I changed the oil and replaced it with Royal Purple’s high performance SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Oil and a new MOPAR oil filter and the car runs beautifully.

It woke the car up from a long nap and did exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Many post 2003 vehicles no longer have a inline fuel filter from the factory. So the strainer in the tank is all thats keeping your fuel filtered. Granted modern fuels are filtered from the pump. The issue is modern fuel also has up to 10% ethanol content.

Ethanol tend to corrode components like injectors and FPR’s. Running a bottle of this will great smooth out your idle and acceleration. Saying that I’m a 18 year + technician and I notice more then most people do.

So some may not notice it as much as others. Its not octane booster so its not “increasing” performance, its cleaning out the fuel system and burning some carbon off the valves and pistons. So dont expect “tire shredding” performance in a bottle.

Its more of a maintenance/repair item.

If you have purchased this as you are concerned about the so-called quality of supermarket fuel, which may or may not omit some beneficial addititives that are supposedly in the fuel from the big branded forecourts (and I have seen contradictory articles regarding this); and this was a recommended purchase to add each time you fill up your car.

Well, the cost of a bottle of this is probably more than the saving you make each time you use a supermarket forecourt so you perhaps may just as well pay the extra for the “premium” fuel at the pump or from one of the larger fuel providers.

Truth is, I don’t know eithert way. I am sure that adding this isn’t doing any harm but without proper research from experts, I can’t say either way whether adding this will make a difference or is worth the money spent.

Naturally the blurb on the bottle writes soothing words to the extent of it’s worth and effectiveness but I can’t say either way.

Have used Redex system cleaners for years in both Petrol & Diesel formats and both do a great job. This is tough to review as I cannot see inside the injectors or DPF etc. however the vehicle is running well and clean.

This is a 2-tank bottle (i. e. pour in half a bottle per fill-up) and so good value. Would recommend.

Realising that this won’t be an immediate drastic improvement, but long term the initial results seem good. I’m definitely getting more response from the car on acceleration. 50mpg around town and the engine seems smoother.

Yes this is on a 66 reg Clio and I’m using Shell diesel. I’ve just got the car so it’s still adapting to my driving style. Only time will tell regarding the results. The product comes nicely packaged, but with one upside down so it fits.

There is no doser with this and it’s a little tricky to get it in the fuel tank hole without putting too much in, in one go. You literally need to offer it into the hole and quickly pull it out and down in one motion.

Since June of 2014, I have a 2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500 diesel motorhome with the 2. 7 liter, turbocharged 5 cylinder Mercedes engine. In June of 2019, I started using the Lucas fuel treatment and the motorhome had about 85k miles on it.

I first bought the quart size of this Lucas fuel treatment because the quart size has ounce measurements on the side of the quart bottle. Now I buy the Lucas gallon size and refill the quart size from the gallon size.

I was very lucky to be told to start using this Lucas fuel treatment, because in 2019, my injectors must have been clogged. This Lucas fuel treatment completely fixed the rough idling and rough starting.

Improvement in the engine performance started happening on the first day, but it took 9 days for the Lucas fuel treatment to fully soak into the injectors and fuel system for maximum effect. Now my Sprinter runs great because of this Lucas, although I do change the engine air filter every 4000 miles, and I also clean the air filter at 2000 miles by blowing across it and dropping it repeatedly face down on the pavement.

I order about 5 of the Mann brand air filters at a time from RockAuto. com because of RockAuto’s low prices. Lucas fuel additive is the best thing that has happened to the consistent, exceptional performance of my Sprinter motorhome’s engine.

Alcohol in gas is about the worst thing you can put in your system. We really dont have much of a choice anymore unless your willing to search out the “straight” gas pump station. Lucas fuel additive is my reasonable approach to conditioning the fuel system to minimize the effects of the ethanol.

Its a fuel system lubricant to it adds a bit of protection to the fuel pump and also keeps the rubber components from becoming brittle and cracking. It also keeps the alcohol from attacking the exposed aluminum in the injection systems.

I buy in gallons and refill my little one use bottles. I have 4 drivers in my family and I have them all adding a bottle at their fill ups. Been doing this for 4-5 years now. Upper head oiling to keep the piston rings and carbon deposits at bay – I believe that claim too as I have scoped the cylinders at a plug change and was impressed with the tidiness of the combustion chamber.

The cost of a bottle is cheap compared to the replacement cost of an in-tank pump. I consider this preventative maintenance.

About 15 years ago I started using Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant in all my equipment and vehicles. When I initially tried it, I was not sure it did anything special, but decided to try it in a 2007 Honda Civic I used to travel to work, a 90-mile round trip.

The first few tanks, I was not sold on it, since I could not tell for sure if the improvement in gas mileage per tank fill up was actually from the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant. I did a random test of 3 tanks with Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant in and 3 tanks without.

During the 5-week time frame, I averaged nearly 20 more miles per tank full with the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant in then the tanks without the lubricant in. At the time the price per gallon of gas was over $3 a gallon and the Civic got close to 39 MPG.

1/2 gallon of gas per tank savings was $1. 50 and 2. 5 ounces of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant cost me 45 cents or a tank savings of at least $1. 00 per tank fill up. Since the Civic averaged over 25,500 miles per year, this would have been over $300 a year in savings.

My second test was with a John Deere LT166 16HP lawn mower which I could mow our yard twice on 1 tank of gas and have about 1 inch of gas left in the bottom of the tank. When I added the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, I could mow twice on 1 tank of gas and have 2-3 inches of gas left in the tank.

Although not sizable, there was a clear improvement with gas usage. The other benefit I noticed with the Civic was longer intervals between oil changes. I could run the Civic on synthetic oil for at least 9,600 miles before I would ever get an indicator on the dash informing me it was time to change the oil.

Prior to the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, the average oil change indicator came on under 9,000. I use it in everything I own that takes gas or diesel.

I purchased this direct from Archoil on sale. I bought 2 16oz bottles and used all in one tank of fuel in my 06 Dodge 3500 5. 9 Cummins, 195,000 miles. I drove about 50 miles and the change was great.

Starts right up even when cold 20 deg. weather. Idle is smoooth and no more burning coal on acceleration. Going to try some in my 01 Holiday Rambler 8. 3 Cummins motor home.

2004 F350 with the 6. 0 I only thought my truck ran good. Within 30 minutes it was considerately quieter, within 75 miles the skinny pedal was a LOT fatter. I gained back 4+ lbs of boost. Pulls alot harder in the bottom and mid range.

In over 50 years I have just about tried every kind of fuel conditioners on the market for diesel engines. This one was different, I could feel the gains from using this product almost immediately. Would recommend this product to anyone with a diesel engine.

Purchased item to assist cleaning tank on my JD 310G Back Hoe. Worked at removing some water and gunk, however I had a lot of gunk, rust and trash in tank. consequently I removed the tank steamed cleaned used a rotary brush and a wet-dry vac to clean the tank.

Replaced fuel lines installed new fuel filter in tank and on engine last thing was to add Clear Diesel. Except for air in the system Back Hoe runs good. I intend to continue using Clear Diesel to prevent build up of diesel gunk it helped remove water and gunk but will not remove rust and trash.

I put it in! Bought it to keep the diesel fuel stabilized in our motorhome. By the way it’s going to be sold in the near future, just need a buyer.

We have a 2007 Chevrolet with a Duramax Diesel engine and over 200K on the clock. Power Service Diesel Kleen Plus Cetane Boost was recommended to me by a trusted friend. We use it year round and it really seems to help.

Common rail fuel injection systems do not have the margin for error that mechanical fuel injection systems have. I know that Stanadyne and Howe’s also make highly respected products too, but this is what we use.

Mix up a “hot” batch and load up the gooseneck trailer. that’s the life of our truck. We can feel the difference in its performance and will continue to treat every tank of fuel going forward.

I’ve been using both of these product since I bought my Duramax in 2011 since it does have the Bosch CP4 unit lacking the needed lubricant. Diesel kleen with certain boost helps feel in the missing ingredients.

It’s been running smoothly even to this date. I’ve always used Techron in all of my gasoline vehicles especially in my 2018 Denali since it has the 6. 2 liter. I put one in at least every 1000 miles as recommended.

Been using this product for years in my Dodge Ram pickup. Since the advent of ultra low sulphur diesel I have been using this to make sure the expensive injection pump gets lubricated. truck has 157k miles and pump has never been replaced.

the price in this bulk 6 pack is a lot cheaper than the single bottle price at the big box store.

I run a 2006 Fiat Doblo Gargo 1. 3 Multijet diesel van which is approaching 130,000 miles and was having turbo problems i. e. the engine warning light coming on and limp mode tripping in limiting revs to 3000.

I was advised that a replacement turbo was required! I began to research the problem and came across your excellent article on Turbo Cleaning and Turbo Cleaners which precisely detailed my problem so I invested in a 400mil can of Archoil AR6400-D Max, poured it into the almost empty tank and filled up to 60litres with Shell diesel.

The warning light did not go out immediately but over the miles it did go out and then re-appeared shortly afterwards but the intervals got a bit longer between its appearance. However the difference in performance is very noticeable, the van runs so much more smoothly, is far more responsive and appears to be more economical.

I was reaching the end of the tankful and replenished with a further 20 litres but no more additive as I have ordered some AR6900-D Max which should arrive any day. I will then re-fill, add the necessary amount and check the actual fuel consumption too.

I have not yet put my foot down hard to test the turbo as Im still wary of limp mode even though the engine light has been out for some time and with care the revs willgo well past the 3000 mark. I drive in lower gears in and around town and sometimes on runs to keep the revs up and I keep mostly to about 60mph which equates to 2500 revs in 5th or 3000 revs in 4th gears.

Update; The above improvements were the result of the one 400mil can of Archoil AR6400-D Max and 80 litres of fuel. I now use Archoil AR6900-D Max in every tankful, the difference is in performance is remarkable and thankfully the engine warning light is currently staying out! I would highly recommend these products to all diesel owners and recommend that they read the article by Fuel Tech Experts especially if they have turbo problems.

My BMW 535D M-Sport 2012 recently triggered a “DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION” error flashed up on idrive. Vehicle temporarily went into limp mode for approx 5 seconds then regained power but the error kept flashing up from time to time.

This error could be a result of a number of reasons and only way of finding out was to have the the vehicle plugged into diagnostic computer. I thought I would purchase Archoil AR6400-D to see if it would resolve the problem.

well to my surprise, not only did it resolve the issue but now the vehicle drives extra smooth and feels a hell of alot responsive on the throttle, my BMW was already running smooth prior to adding this to the fuel tank, but I feel its alot more smoother and a real pleasure to drive.

The drive train malfunction error has never reappeared and car pulls like a train. I am sooo happy with this product, it really is quite unbelievable.

Archoil 6400 is, in my opinion, the very best in its class when it comes to engine cleaners. It out-performs many of the other brand products that we have tried. This is the only product that actually proved to do what we needed resulting in massively reduced emissions and notably increased performance, response and slightly better fuel economy as well.

Our service vehicle failed its 6 monthly test due to emissions. Archoil 6400-D fixed this. Very happy with this product. Power. enhancer (eBay) gave a first-class service, next day delivery, even though I ordered late in the day.

And their telephone technical support and advice was also very good. They seem to be a very knowledgeable company. and also, very friendly and helpful.

I usually use Lucas High Mileage fuel treatment on my 2001 X5 from time to time. This time I decided to try Lucas Deep Clean Fuel System for a change. I thought Lucas High Mileage was a good product but the Deep Clean Fuel System seems to be better.

Better in terms of pick up and instant response. I have about 174k on my X5. I would say give Lucas Deep Clean Fuel System a try and see for yourself. As far as it claims to remove carbon deposit, I don’t know.

I haven’t try to tear down the engine and borescoping each cylinder to inspect to determine if their claim is true.

I used this to see if I could get the carbon buildup off my piston tops. After putting in my half full tank I checked one of my pistons with a small camera I have only a few days later and saw that the carbon was starting to disappear I was surprised it did that so quickly.

Also I noticed a pick up in power the next day after I added it. Great stuff!.

Bought to put in my petrol ride on lawnmower which was running poorly even after a major service at a main dealer. Replaced all the service items and still it was running very badly and cutting out a lot.

I was not expecting miracles when I resorted to this STP treatment but I poured the whole contents into a full fuel tank and after 15 minutes of poor running it suddenly picked up and ran cleanly. Starting is much better now and it runs like it used to.

I am really so pleased I will use it every major service on all my vehicles.

It did the trick. I had a engine warning light that kept coming on. No longer.

I drive a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax. Daily driver to work in the city. 10 minutes to get to work, 30 minutes to get home. Also, when ever I can, I go up 12 hours North to our quarter section, loaded up, towing a trailer with my Argo and gear and stuff.

The short city driving is no good for my diesel, so, it was regenerating the DPF every 4-days for 3 days in a row. I put this in my tank, every time I fill up, from late spring to early fall. From mid fall to mid spring I put the all in one in my tank.

For the short drives to work in the morning, after I got to work and park, I ran the engine at 2500rpm for 2-3 minutes every time, before I shut it off. Too long and boring story how I got to this. Since I am doing this, my truck regenerates only once in every 3 weeks for only one day! Yes, I mark it in the calendar, that’s how I know.

I had just came back from a trip pulling an RV with my 2014 RAM 3500, 6. 7 Ltr engine, and got (average) 9. 8 miles per gallon of diesel fuel. Next trip, same route, same RV, and my 4500 mile round trip, upped the fuel mileage to 12.

I have used injector clean with cetane boost for several years. I had an ’04 Ford Superduty 6. 0 purchased new and ran it in it until trading it off for a new 2020 Superduty. at the advice of my mechanic, I continue to run at every fill-up in my new truck.

Have never incurred any problems. Don’t really know if it helps, but I do know it doesn’t hurt. I also run Amsoil motor oil in all of our vehicles, including my ’12 Harley TriGlide.
