20 Best Detangler For Thick Hair (2023 Updated)

I love using this product! It leaves my hair smelling great and I feel like my hair is styled much easier after usage! If you need extra help with your hair, give this a try. It makes your hair more manageable than most conditioners! This bottle lasts for months and the only negative feedback that I’ll give is that a quarter size might be too much for those with short hair.

If you put lots of this in your hair, it can get really oily feeling. Use sparingly and enjoy!.

I’ve used this product intermittently for 15+ years. Over the last 5 or so it’s become my go-to. I have fine, type 3 curls, low/medium porosity and medium density. I can’t even begin to tell you how many different shampoos/conditioners I’ve tried, and I always come back to this set or the Ultra Hydrasource.

I’ve never experienced any hair loss whatsoever, in fact, I have with other brands and once I go back to this it stops. The smell is absolutely amazing also! I wash my hair 1-2x a week with the shampoo, and in between I use a co-wash from Curlsmith.

I always start with using the detangling solution from this line and brush through in the shower with my wet brush. I rinse, shampoo with this, then use this conditioner or a deep conditioner. I comb that through and let sit for several minutes and rinse.

Even with very dark natural hair and having bleached highlights (touch ups every 3-6 months), my hairdresser brags about how healthy my hair is! I get a trim every 8 weeks, and she always tells me I don’t even need it because of how healthy my ends are, even during post-COVID hair issues I was experiencing (loss and thinning).

My husband also started using this shampoo AND conditioner when he ran out of his Redken Brews and his hair is VERY fine and thin, and he said he couldn’t believe how much better his hair looked and felt (he’s also a curly guy, only getting his hair cut/shaved 2-3x year).

I’ve repeatedly bought this product because it helped manage my very curly hair. When I first bought the product name scared me a little a solution?! I tried it and it got out my tangles but as time went on I noticed more and more shedding.

Then the shedding became clumps. I didn’t put two and two together as it was the solution causing this problem. I ended up moving and packed away my products. A few months later hair is now fuller and healthier, I unpacked my detangling solution.

I used it this morning and a adnormal amount of shedding came out, reminiscent of when my hair first started coming out. Be careful of this product, stay safe.

I bought a horse that had obviously seen better days. Her mane and tail were a mess, witches knots in her mane and the entire core of her tail was a solid matt. After researching what products could help untangle the mess I decided to try Mane ‘n Tail Horse Detangler.

I am so happy that I did! Storm (my horse) was an absolute angel as I worked on her tail. It was full of sticks and cockleburs but after spraying with the detangler, I was able to get her tail back to it’s full glory.

The spray isn’t oily or greasy as you might expect but seemed much like water. However, water wouldn’t do what this spray did. It helped lubricate the hairs so that they were easier to brush out. It did take a while to untangle her tail, (start at the bottom and work up) but patience and Mane ‘n Tail conquered the mess.

Her mane and tail were left fluffy and full and shiny! Even though her tail isn’t matted anymore, I still use the detangler every time I brush her mane and tail. I highly recommend this product.

I kinda figured it wouldn’t be for straight hair by the words ‘milk’ and ‘elixir’ but without many viable options for me at Ulta I tried it. It smells nice and the bottle design is pretty and I love this kind of sprayer.

Overall it softens and conditions hair. The problem for me is, it gives no ease when brushing out tangles. I have 1B type fine hair that used to be thick but thinned out in my teens. I’m only 22 and do everything possible to keep from having literal bald spots around my temples.

That being said I need a spray that’ll idk, make the hair slippery?? And that is not this. It’s sticky- not sticky to the touch but it’ll kinda make the hair clump together and the more you spray the worse that gets as well as the more you use the heavier it makes your hair.

I really don’t even understand how the sprayer works because inside it’s like a thin hair creme-like consistency. I think it’s good for maybe a softening hair masque, or for curly and coily hair types to tame curls but on straight hair it weighs it down.

And though I doubt it would weigh curly hair down, I do not see how it would help comb through curly hair tangles at all. I think I’m going to get the Suave apple scented childrens’ detangler I used as a kid because I just want easier brushing and less ripping hairs out 😵‍💫.

I grabbed this on a whim off a store shelf on vacation when we were struggling with combing out after-pool hair. I have 3 daughters and in almost 12 years, I have lost track of how many detangle products I have tried.

This is BY FAR the best. My daughters (including my 2 year old) call it magic spray and come running to me after baths/showers to spritz and wet brush their hair. Brushing hair has traditionally been a miserable time with lots of screaming (long hair requires care, active girls who don’t like to wear their hair pulled up are prone to major tangles, and girls who are convinced that the tiniest tug means they are being scalped).

I used to use Pacifica’s Hairvana leave-in conditioner all the time as a detangler, but then they discontinued it. When I noticed this new spray I had to try it. Folks, it’s basically the same thing.

Oh wow. Where do I start? This was a random pick up in branch when looking at breast pumps. I had stopped using hair products with silicon and free from parabens etc in my hair but hadn’t found a deranged product before I dry.

Such a happy surprise to see this, so thought I’d give it a go. Oh my god has it made such a difference. I had avoided going to hairdressers whilst pregnant during covid, so my hair was a mess. It’s looking dry and frizzy, as well as being super knotty after bath/ shower.

My hair is also extremely long and very thick. I bought this only to use on my hair (an adult!) and not on my children’s, but would happily use on them seeing the ingredients. A few sprays on my hair does the trick, that I think this spray will last a long time.

Really great at detangling with my hairbrush, so easy to use. Seen comments on here about nozzle, I’ve yet to experience this however the head of my spray is different to the website image. My hair is a million times better, it looks so healthy and frizz has been tamed.

I’ve had comments from a few people about how good my hair is looking. I also spotted on here that it’s also life/nit repellant, which is timely as just got rid of nits in my 3 yr olds hair. So now these are a risk in our household that this is my super hair product must have! Been telling EVERYONE about this as I can’t recommend it enough!.

Ive used this brush several things over the past few weeks, but typically end up switching back to my normal brush. I loved the feel and shape of the brush, it was incredibly comfortable and I felt like i had a lot of control.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel like i could get the right amount of tension while brushing for it to really do anything. I’m unsure of what caused the feeling, but I think it had something to do with how sharp the bristles were.

I was unable to get close to my scalp or brush my hair against my skin without getting scratched up. For reference, i have navel length hair and rely on getting a good amount of tension while brushing.

As far as detangling purposes, it does a good job straightening strands out at the end of the day, but it’s not so great at getting out the matts and knots that I end up with most days. The best part of this brush is that it’s super easy to use on wet hair without stretching and pulling.

Overall, it’s a decent brush, but not so much for actually detangling. I would reluctantly recommend it. I think it would be perfect for people with shorter, less tangle prone hair, or those who are wanting a quick way to brush wet hair or smooth out their top layer.

Received free for honest review!! I was VERY skeptical when I saw this brush. I have thick, wavy hair thats in the process of recovering from some heavy damage. first glance it looked so cheap to me.

and i hated it did not have a handle. I brushed my hair after my shower and thought theres no way it got through more than the top layer-it probably just created snarls underneath. but this little brush made it all the way through the thickest parts of my hair, with ease, and i barely lost any hair in the process.

I typically use the wet brush with the aerating holes in it, and I lose a lot of hair when I brush. i think the no handle feature, that I disliked, gives you more control and means less pulling and snarling, resulting in less hair loss.

either way, one use and it had me sold. very impressed and happy with this one!.

I was disappointed with this product. I was really excited to try it since I love the brand, or used to anyway. I have low porosity hair that is very curly and tangles terribly. I was hoping this would help to detangle my hair prior to washing.

I can spray this legitimately more than 30 times on my hair and it does absolutely nothing. I generally detangle in the shower as I do not brush/comb my hair when dry. So, I would wet my hair, spray this everywhere, and try to detangle with no luck.

I have had to revert back to heavy conditioner or mask prior to shampoo to help detangle with less damage and less hair loss. Don’t buy this if you have low porosity hair. You will be very disappointed.

I really was surprised at how disappointing this was. I’m a natural dark blonde, highlighted/balayage colored hair. I also have thin hair strands but my hair is fuller because I’ve got a lot of it, which is a recipe for tangles.

I used this right after the shower and towel drying. It was like I wasn’t putting anything on. Very little detangling power. I switched over to the Mizani 25 Milk and oh my goodness, what a difference! I could actually brush through my hair easily post shower.

So at first, I was very very skeptical, mainly because of the cost of this. However, I have certainly been proven wrong. I tend to find a lot of sprays leave your hair feeling a little sticky, or dries a little funny, however this does not do that.

It also makes your hair feel really soft too, and the heat protection part is fantastic! My hair gets very very tangled, I’m not sure how it gets so tangled! But this works fantastically well! I have also tried this on my nieces hair, who also has the same issues as me, and she loves it too! I do like the scent, Its like a light marzipan which makes sense as one ingredient is sweet almond oil, I just wish the fragrance was a little punchier and lasted longer as it does fade very quickly.

I did think it wouldn’t last long either, but it really does, you do not need to use that much to have it work. I would recommend this product for sure, and I would more than likely buy it again, however I do wish it was a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for, its a fantastic product and worth the money!.

First it was low porosity line discontinued (Extra Moisture Detangler WITHOUT Raw Shea Butter added/just clear gel), without any explanation, and now Raw Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Detangler being changed/discontinued/off the market/whatever, without reason.

Shea Moisture what is going on? As you can clearly see a lot of people are serious about their hair and their hair products and are upset about this product’s formula being changed without a thought about them and their needs and wants.

The old and new formula are literally two different products but with somewhat the same name and packaging. Business thought: You all see you have loyal followers for certain products and I guess you think you can change whatever you want (add/omit/water down/etc.

) something and your loyal customers will purchase the new product no matter what. But, remember the New Coke & them having to go back to the original formula? You should always first seek and ask your loyal customers/clients, the ones who spend their hard earn money on your products, what they want & need before you start changing products to accommodate your stockholders/shareholders/those who invested in your products.

Remember. without your loyal customers/clients spending their money on your products on a regular basis you and your stockholders/shareholders won’t be getting much of a profit if they go to another company and start spending their money on other products by other companies, unless you own several companies under a different name.

Please, first ask and then listen to your loyal clients/customers and try to always try to satisfy their needs because they are right it takes several years and tons of hair products to find what works best for each individual.

I received this product for free from Topbox in exchange for my honest review. #freeproduct I was quite excited to receive this product as my two nephews have long hair that always seems to be tangled, even when I thoroughly coat their hair in conditioner during every bath.

Both are free to cut their hair whenever they want, but prefer long tresses. I think I was a little too eager when first trying the product as I definitely used more than needed. It left the hair feeling tacky.

After some trial and error, and using maybe a nickel-sized dollop, I think I’ve figured it out. After bath, I put some product in my palm and rub it around. I then start from the bottom of their hair and work my way up.

After that I use a wet brush and brush it through. Final step is a braid to secure their hair before bed making it easy to repeat in the morning before school. Before using Raw Shea Butter Moisturizing Detangler there were protests every time I had to brush their hair.

Every knot resulted in a yelp. Now, hair brushing is fairly painless process. assuming I can get them to stay still. LOL! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with hair prone to tangles.

I bought this detangler, the shampoo and conditioner for 130$ (I had a discount code) the price tag is WAY to high for what your getting. I get better results with redken or nexxus and for this price you get the largest bottle.

I thought this could be a contender but the product it’s self does not justify the price. For the record I have long brown wavy hair. It works about as well at Giovanni products that you get at tj maxx for 10$.

I feel like your mainly paying for the packaging which is beautiful btw. There’s just not enough product and it doesn’t work well enough for this to be a consistent buy. This is definitely not for thin hair or straight hair as the product is heavy.

I use this Not Your Mother’s Knotty To Nice Conditioning Detangler on my 6 year old daughter’s hair after she washes her hair. Her hair gets really tangly after washing it, just like mine does. I especially can’t go without using a leave-in after washing my hair.

This detangler was recommended by and Ulta employee for my daughter. I wanted something that wouldn’t be too harsh and heavy and okay for kids. This smells so good, but does have a pretty strong scent to it, so it is a bit much.

A little info of my hair, I have very knotty hair! I brush it and move a little and it’s tangled up! So you can imagine after the shower what that is like! Also I have long hair so that makes it even more knotty! With that being said, for my hair this doesn’t do exactly as I wanted but it does help! For background, I have long, fine, wavy, naturally dark brown Asian hair, which is professionally colored every 4 months. When I let my hair air dry, and I’ve truly brushed or combed it out, it still looks a bit messy or tangled.

That’s the texture I work with daily. Since I have oily skin, my scalp is also oily. My hair is always a tangled bird’s nest after washing and conditioning it. A detangling spray is a must! The only other detangling spray that I’ve tried is the Joico Daily Care Leave-In Detangler.

In comparing the two products, I prefer Joico. What I’ve learned is that I have to let the product sit for a while after spraying it on my hair, before I start combing out the tangles. I didn’t let the Joico detangler sit as long as I do for this product, so I thought this was better at loosening tangles.

If I had let the Joico detangler sit, I’d say that the detangling power was equal to this product. But the biggest difference for me was when my hair was dry. I never felt that the Joico detangler left a weighted residue on my hair.

I’d say the residue feels as if I sprayed my hair with a bit of hairspray. This product actually makes my hair look as if it hasn’t been washed for a day or two, and my scalp and hairline looked too oily for being just washed.

When I blow-dried my hair, I couldn’t achieve enough volume along my hairline that I usually like, which made my fine hair look very flat. I wanted to give this product a 2-star rating, but it’s so effective at detangling hair so gently, that I felt it deserved a 3-star rating.

Perhaps someone who doesn’t have a similar hair type and texture like me would actually enjoy it.

Love this brush, this is my second wet brush Pro Thick Hair, as my first recently retired. I have super thick mid length hair and I use my brush every morning after my shower. It glides through my wet hair ( and dry) without an issue.

I haven’t looked back since and will keep on purchasing for a long time to come. I highly recommend this brush. Hope this review helps you :).

Tangles be gone! I have a couple of old wet brushes from about 6 yrs or so. I loved them from the time I started to use them. So when I saw these brushes at a very low price I decided to update my brushes and I wasnt disappointed.

Finally something to comb through thick wet hair! It works really well and it was at a great price to boot.

Ok, first… I didn’t realize this was for curly hair. So, that’s my fault. I have very straight hair, that is a tangly mess when I get out of the shower. This product doesn’t really detangle my hair, as much as it just gives a slip to my hair so I can try and run my comb through.

So, I can’t really see this working for anyones actual tangles, curly or straight. The part, for me, that’s worse then the product, is the bottle. I just can’t figure out how to hold the awkward spray nozzle, while the heavy part of the bottle hangs freely.

It doesn’t spray upside down (like when you try and flip your hair over to get underneath) my fingers also tend to block the spray from coming out. Maybe I just have giant hands.

I cannot describe how much this changed hair time in my family. This is what you need to detangle long afros on Certain People who like to do summersaults in the grass all day. No one gets tangles faster than a 3 year old with waist length afro hair!!! This was recommended to me by a friend and SAVED MY BUTT.

I use it too it just cut down the time it took to detangle my waist length curly hair from 45 to 5 minutes and ten sections to just two or four. I have like a Diana Ross curl pattern and that much hair too.

Now I can detangle my kids hair within two hours even when it’s like tangles that they didn’t want me to take out at night and slept on. My older son’s afro hair doubles up and folds entirely in half so without this one product the breakage trying to ‘detangle’ a set of dreadlocks on a regular basis was unreal.

I have very curly 3b hair. It’s very dry because I bleached it a year and a half ago and dyed it black to hide the grow out. My ends would matte and tangle up when I tie my hair up or put it in a bun for more than 2 days so I would try to co-wash after 3-4 days when I feel I need to but the tangles are still too bad.

This is now my staple so I don’t pull out all my hair. I literally dampen my hair with a spray bottle then spray this in sections of my hair and detangle with my fingers with ease. If my hair don’t pull apart for me to section it I would wet the section then spray this.

I spray about 3-4 spray per section because I have fine hair. My sections are small to medium. I’ve also taken it with me to the shower and would soak my hair with warm water then spray this in sections and detangle my hair with this in my hair.

I do this before I shampoo because shampoo makes my hair more tangled and dry. I’m not crazy about the smell because I’ve smell it so much but I’m more obsessed because it works great.

I have very long colored hair past my bottom and let me tell you, I go through a lot of conditioner and shampoo, but there is times when i just want that conditioning and detangle thats when I use Johnsons no more tangles.

This is a kids detangler i know but it gives that smoothness and freshness that is sometimes hard to find. Kind of a fruity smell that lasts for a couple days. Best to use when your hair is still wet to apply but i have also applied dry and got the same results.

My daughter has super curly hair and I thought I would give this product a try. Total waste of 18 dollars. It didn’t work well on her hair but hers is difficult so I figured I’d give it a try on mine.

It was as if I didn’t even use conditioner. The smell is bland and reminds me of the conditioner they use in horses cause mane n tail. Total waste of money. I want to believe that I bought a bottle that someone tampered with because Paul mitchell normally does better than this.

I love this conditioner! I use it after shampooing with P. M. Shampoo One. It’s amazing. Leaves my color treated hair much more softer. The scent is pleasing also. I always go back to this one no matter what.

I get compliments on my hair, it makes THAT much of a difference! Will definitely buy a larger bottle in the near future!.

Upon letting my hair grow long, I was distressed by my fine hair’s tendency to tangle. This was never a concern when it was shoulder length. After trying a range of conditioners, I came upon The Detangler.

I am thrilled to say this product actually lives up to its name and successfully detangles my hair every time I use it. As long as I keep my hair this length, I will not be without it.

My son has very kinky, curly hair and as anyone with that hair type knows – you cannot brush it out when it’s dry. It has to be wet or damp. So, it would take me about 30 – 40 mins to give him a bath.

This is thee best detangler I have ever used. My girls have really thick curly Polynesian hair and they would cry every time I had to comb their hair. Ever since getting this I no longer get resistance from them.

All it takes is 3-5 pumps for half the head and literally within the next 2/3 glides of the brush it will magically detangle. We call it “The Magic Spray” haha because it really works in a pinch. Hopefully this won’t sell out or I will have to resort to Google to hunt it down.

Absolutely my favorite set angler and also a great option to smooth out frizzy curls. I’ve been searching for years to find something that will work for my curly, frizzy, fine hair. Doesn’t make hair oily either!! I have naturally oily scalp and hair.

This is fantastic. Before using this, it would take me around 20 minutes to get the knots out of my hair after washing. I use this with a tangle tamer brush and it’s literally effortless. I have wavy thick hair.

I also don’t need to use any styling products after using this. I just apply, brush through and then dry with a diffuser for lovely soft curly waves. Smells yummy too.

I have blonde bleached, thick curly hair which require moisture prior to and after washing. I have tried plenty of other, more expensive products but I can confirm that this product not only smells amazing but makes brushing so much easier and leaves my hair soft.

My hair is always very hard to keep up with, so I was on this search to finding the perfect brush for my coarse/thick hair type. I had bought several brushes and I am sure it’s no surprise that finding the right products for your hair is definitely a trial and error.

I came across this specific brush and it was a breath of fresh air. Bristles in the brush vary in sizes which has an effect like none other when it comes to dentangling your hair. The handle is light and with a very comforting rubber material, easy to manage when you have a full set of hair to go through! Bristles also minimize split ends and its definitely a cute yet glam design !.

First let me start off by saying, I love the wet brush brand so much. BUT this brush is the worst brush I’ve used in my entire life. (I am not the type of person to ever write a bad review or return something.

) This brush is absolutely NOT FOR THICK HAIR. What makes their other brushes so great is how flexible the bristles are, which makes detangling your hair so easy and painless. But for some reason they decided to make the bristles on a brush specifically for thick hair not flexible at all.

In my opinion (take it or leave it) the best possible brush for thicker hair would’ve been one with longer bristles to actually be able to get through my large amount of hair and also with flexible bristles so it can actually be painless and easy like their other brushes.

I’m so disappointed in this brush I had to return it and I ended up getting their Pro Flex Dry Paddle Brush instead.

This brush does have firmer bristles than the original and the pro version, so if you like flexible bristles, this is not the brush for you. However, if you have thick hair and keep distorting the bristles on other brushes like I do, this is the perfect brush for you.

I have thick curly hair and when wet it feels like a wet pair of jeans on my head and it also feels impenetrable, I always destroy the bristles on my brushes bc of that. This brush gets right through and I can spread my conditioners and detangle easily.

It is not good for styling/curl definition but that was not what it was intended for so I still give it 5 stars.

Before writing a review I wanted to use the products for a month so I could comment honestly and fairly. I rarely write reviews, and I have never purchased a product that is endorsed or produced by a celebrity as I feel if it needs an endorsement by a famous face then it must not be up to par.

Like a middle aged man who thinks his expensive luxury car makes him more desirable. it never does. However, if there is one celebrity I am willing to try a product from, it’s Jennifer Aniston. Her look is always effortless, natural and clean.

No fuss, no over doing it. I have always admired her pure and simple overall look. I am very shocked to see any negative reviews of these products!? I saw that they had started shipping to Canada, so I purchased the detangler and the leave in conditioner in the travel sizes so I could try them out.

Any company that sells travel sizes is in my opinion is very confident in their products. The product packaging is perfect, simple, no fuss. The smell is a pretty light citrus scent which is great for those who are more sensitive to perfumes.

I personally would love a hint more of scent, but that’s just me and you can’t please everyone 🙂 I decided to try them differently to see what worked well on my hair as everyone’s hair is different.

First time I used both products, the the next day I used just the detangler, then the following day I used just the leave in conditioner. For me, the detangler is absolutely wonderful and I use it daily and only need about 4 sprays.

The leave in conditioner I use if I am going to fancy up my hair that day. My hair just doesn’t require alot of extra conditioning. I did find 2 pumps of leave in conditioner was too much, one pump was perfect.

These products give my hair that super light weight feeling that you get when you just get your hair done at the salon. like your head just lost 20 pds. Awesome feeling! The only reason I can see anyone complaining is if they used too much product.

Less is more, you don’t need alot. Unfortunately the only issue for me is the shipping/duty fees end up adding an extra $30ish to my order so for that reason I won’t be ordering more until perhaps they put it in stores in the US/Canada to purchase in person.

Would love to try the new shampoo and conditioner, I know it will be just as great as the other products. Very pleased with the products. Great job Lolavie! Cheers, Tanya.

I’ve never been a detangler kind of customer. I have very fine hair but a gentle combing and I was good to go but when this first released it had so many amazing ingredients in it I wanted it anyway.

I’m now on my second bottle. This stuff is so good and paired with the Leave-in it is such a great combination. I have super fine, flat, lifeless hair but I also hate using a ton of products. These two have been a total game changer combination for me.

I spray the detangler – about 6 sprays throughout my hair – and then a pump of the Leave-in and use that only on the ends of my hair and truly my hair looks and feels amazing. I typically wash my hair every other day and while using these products only I don’t get any build up and styles hold really well.

No need for hairspray which just helps keeping my hair more natural looking and feeling too! You really cannot go wrong with these products. I appreciate the ingredients and thank the company for being both clean and consciously aware of their ingredients.

Can’t wait for whatever the have up their sleeves next :).
