20 Best Delay Pedal For Slapback (2023 Updated)

Okay fuzz pedals are NOT all the same by far! They may as well be different pedals. (The term Fuzz is not generic. ) I bought this one due to a YouTube review. Does it sound like it did in a video? No of course not.

That all depends on how they record etc. Even an acoustic sound has to come through a mic, which you probably EQ, because you want your playing to sound good. Plus no one is likely to have the same rig as you.

After a while you get to hear the pedal’s basic effect and can imagine how it will sound with your rig, not that you always get it right. I honed in on the more subtle settings of this pedal, they sounded sweet and controllable in the vid, I wanted to get a sixties feel but not so in your face.

This panned out, the pedal on subtle settings moves all your sweet spots around, where it makes some progressions sound great, when dry they are just so, so. Indeed, via the new sweet spots, it takes you in new directions, but yes subtle.

This on both my clean and driven channels, placed in front of the amp not in the effects loop, it’s great on both channels, but obviously a different result. Turn it up and you get big Fuzz, I don’t have a use for that personally and or the octave? I’d rather use my amp’s drive which I love, and colour it subtly.

It’s VERY well made; the tone is indeed tone not just more of the same. Input, output and power on the top, as it should be!!!! This so you can put the pedals closer. Easy to match the volume to the dry signal.

And it’s cheap! I’m very happy it did what I wanted. The other fuzz that caught my attention was in the new Gibson affordable range. The modern feel setting is pretty cool! For context, the other fuzzes I tried were Boss via the ME 80 pedal board, which I couldn’t find a use for, and a cheap one, can’t remember the name but it was rubbish.

As ever it’s a journey! No quick fix.

I was a little skeptical of these cheaper Fender pedals, since I own alot of high end boutique pedals. But I was looking for something simple to use and at a great price. Fender knocked it out of the park with the Hammerone line.

Don’t let the price fool you they are a high quality good sounding addition to your board. And they actually look pretty cool. For the price and quality you will not be disappointed, I highly recommend them as a matter of fact I got 3 of them.

I’ve been playing electric guitar for a year and have a Marshall amp with an overdive button but I wanted a pedal so I can switch on the overdrive mid way through a song. This pedal is an affordable price for someone like me that has a fairly inexpensive guitar.

I did not want to pay more for a pedal than I did the guitar. The overdrive sound that it creates is much fuller and richer than the one that my amp generates with it. Very pleased all round.

Does exactly what it says it does. Simple, straightforward controls. Not too much or little of anything, it’s perfect for its use and application. Lower price than any other pedal, but it does the same thing.

In fact, the cheapest one doesn’t have enough millisecond control. This was the next one higher and it blows away $300 delay pedals. Perfect for the beginner and expert alike.

Excellent budget effects pedal – Great value – purchased to replace kaput Boss DD3 – IMO this is both better/more versatile and more inspiring – with max delay up to 1. 3 secs! *Pros – Robust build, large sweep controls, True bypass, optional 9V battery (you don’t see many of those today do you?) Cons – Pedal adds slight boost to volume, beneficial to accent effect, but need to compensate when switching mid performance? Feefo failed to post this review??.

Clean and clear, sounds fine when in bypass. Easy enough to figure out and use. Has infinite repeats, really want this in all my echo units, analog, digital or tape (can’t afford drum). Has a good range of delay times, short and long, the 1300 ms works well for my uses.

Three things I’d change. One, the mix or echo level doesn’t go up high enough for me – what I mean is it only goes to about half echo half dry signal – really wish it’d go to full echo, no dry signal.

But unfortunately most echo units are that way. I get it, but for what I do, sound effects and music types, I need it to go all echo / no dry signal. Two, the delay ranges uses musical notation (1/16, 1/8, 3/8) instead of millisecond ranges.

I think the older units used milliseconds but am not positive. It’s fine as is and it makes good sense that they’d do it that way; just my preference, milliseconds are easier for me. Three, easier battery access.

So no big deal, a few things I’d change (mostly personal preference) but it’s actually a great unit and sounds fantastic. Really enjoy using it a lot.

I was recently using one pedal board for all my guitars, and the chorus I had was mainly designed for use with acoustic guitar. Now I’m rearranging things to have one board just for my electric guitars and all I needed was a basic chorus pedal of quality build and tone.

I knew from reviews the JHS 3 series was perfect for me. I’ve been playing for 57 years and have owned pedals in the $100 to $500 range to provide my chorus effects. No matter if I had mulitple options in some stomp boxes I usually settled on a good subtle setting, so I knew there was no need for me to get anything fancier than the JHS.

It sounds are good as the little blue Boss Chorus I bought way back in 1980.

I was looking for a cheaper reverb pedal to add to my new mini pedalboard, and these JHS 3 Series pedals came up in my search. I watched a ton of videos, and they sounded amazing, so I figured that I’d give the reverb a try.

Plugging it in, I was blown away!! It’s such a sweet sounding digital reverb, with a toggle switch for pre-delay, which was an added bonus. I compared it next to my Catalinbread Talisman, which I love, and it kept right up no problem.

I also tried it next to a TC Electronic Hall Of Fame 2, and that pedal sounded like garbage next to the JHS 3 Series. This whole experience has made me super curious about their other 3 Series selections, after hearing how great they sound.

I am a huge jhs fan, and I’ve owned 4 of their pedals now. First issue I’ve ever had. When I pulled the pedal out of the box it felt cheap. A lot cheaper than the “cheap” price it cost. But since I love jhs so much I gave the benefit of the doubt.

All that came out was a sputtering sound as the volume dropped in and out. The same problem no matter where the knobs and switch were set. But there’s a reason AMS is my go to seller. They immediately started a return for me.

I had high hopes for the 3 series and was let down. But still love jhs and still love AMS!.

It looks great and it has some lovely sounds and settings, many of which I have not really fully explored yet. However, there are a couple of issues. Firstly, the dotted 8th setting – a welcome addition but this simply adds a dotted 8th repeat to the existing repeats AND there is no function to tap out the tempo, so unless you are always playing to a metronome and have it set exactly (or if the guitarist starts the song and sets the tempo) then it is tricky to use in “live” situations.

The other issue is the level which I have had to have at 100% to hear any effect.

Good, but not a knockout at all. Built to a price that suits Fender obviously. Bought Fender Marine reverb also. Very disappointing – blend control redundant, must be set flat out to achieve any reverb impact at all.

I replaced a Delay pedal that was more expensive and had 9 presets. It sounded amazing but I hated having to go through the presets. Even the manual setting was a pain. The Fender Mirror Image sounds great and is so easy to use.

Just reach down and twist one or two knobs for a quick adjustment. All analog with a true by-pass. All of the new Fender pedals are great and I have three of them now. Nice LED lit knobs also.

Overall: I have seen my share of videos , I am not one who treads lightly when it comes to getting involved with finding out what I need to know about my gear I want,. I have had my pedals from Strymon to tc, cheap pedals.

If your gonna go big go big,. Yes there’s a learning curve but with that come s big rewards the Strymon pedals are the top until boss came in ,. They can do a lot of effect pedals amazing the reason I went with boss was cost, the sample rate of boss 32 bit ,.

and the routing options, as well the 9volt power to run them,. These 500 series are amazing I currently own the dd500 an the Rv500 together simple put they work killer Strymon is easy if you want but it’s more money the thing it runs on 300ma which eats up my power space,.

And the lower bit rating the source audio has 56 bit which is cool easy; but it didn’t have the warmth or sound it’s also a bit dark sounding,. but the investment I feel is with boss just my opinion.

I have just cracked the surface an potential with the pedal I figure in another year you’ll be hearing a lot more about it as people figure it out more and what I can do. I think people give up too soon before they have really given it a chance.

People just want something to make them sound good they don’t wanna work for it.

I am not a super picky effect user, mostly I play with a tube screamer and some reverb. I’ve used the TC Flashback for years and while it’s a great pedal, you really have to dial it up to get the most out of it.

For live purposes its very limiting. I wanted something that gave me delay options on the floor, and after researching reviews and video demos, I settled on the DD-500. Right off the bat I was impressed with the fullness of the delay effect, even at a low mix, you feel its presence.

The variations are endless and easy to program patches in the order you want for live performance. BOSS nailed it with this unit. With all the super expensive boutique pedals out there, it’s great that you can get such a well made, versatile and usable delay at a reasonable cost! I highly recommend this pedal to anyone who wants more control over how you use delay effects in your live performance.

I think it will inspire you to create new sounds and help put a new spin on some old licks.

The Boss DD-500 delay pedal is one of the best on the market. Being an owner of the Boss MD-500 modulation pedal, I was aware of the endless possibilities via the parameter adjustments of this Boss series, and was very familiar with the pedal layout, how to adjust parameters, and using the editor software on a computer.

The numerous presets and parameters can be intimidating, but I developed a systematic way to find usable parameters and how to set them for what was needed personally, as well as how to put them in memory locations that were easy to access for my needs.

Start with a spreadsheet with all the parameters listed by preset # and name, a column for personal rating (1-10) and one for comments. NOTE: Ver. 2 of firmware has uses banks 1 – 40 for factory presets, then repeats these presets in banks 41 – 80.

Banks 81 – 99 are empty). Go thru all the preset banks 1 – 40 and fill in the spreadsheet. Making adjustments to presets while going thru them (without saving) can identify presets that you may like but are just not adjusted to your taste – note this as well.

When done, write presets you like in the lower banks in an order that makes sense for your needs and saving your favorites to adjacent banks makes it much easier to find them when you need. *Also create columns inspreadsheet for your presets that show what is where so you can find them easily.

The pedal presets can then be saved from the pedal via the editor software. Much more to learn and say about this great pedal, but best to just get one and start having fun!!.

I love this pedal! This faithfully emulates the Echoplex sound and does so without the hassle of dealing with tape. I had an Echoplex in the mid-70s. There’s really no words that can describe the other delay emulations other than they are fantastic and sound so good.

I play thru a Mesa Boogie Mark V with an Ox Box to attenuate. Now I can’t seem to stop playing! I got the Golden first and was completely stoked over that pedal. The quality of the UAFX pedals is top notch too.

I loved the Golden and Starlight so much that I made the plunge and bought the Astra too! Sweetwater is always awesome which goes without saying! Always my first stop when buying gear!.

Sounds incredible. I remember when strymon el capistan came out and I always wanted it to have ping pong rhythmic divisions with the tape crinkle splice in the mix, well this one dose that and more. Sounds very authentic.

The box it arrives in has a velvet texture and inside the box is all black padded cushion material. Super premium stuff. The pedal is a navy colour in person as in the videos iv seen it looks black we’re the controls are.

Doesn’t come with an ac adapter.

The UA Starlight is a fantastic delay. Sounds great through clean and overdriven sounds. Very tape like. I’ve had basically all the high-end delay pedals and I have to say this pedal is far better than 90% competition.

If you enjoy the thick sound of tape but hate the spooling nightmares this is the right pedal for you. 400mA power supply required.

Treated myself to a Caverns to replace my (cheap and cheerful but still decent) Caline Ragnarok, so a fair step up but, so far, worth every penny. The delay side is straightforward from a great slap back tone to enough delay for most needs but it’s the additional modulation effect that really adds something special; extra depth and tonal textures.

It can be pushed to extremes but gradually dials back through thick repeats to a subtle Univibe type effect. On the Reverb side, the three settings all produce great light reverbs but it’s as you crank them that the skills of this pedal shine through.

The Spring setting is a really faithful spring reverb. Add the tremolo effect, your sound has just instantly developed more character. Same for the modulated reverb; both do “the basics” very well and then have some extra to play with.

But it’s the Shimmer setting, with its octave trails, that steals the show. With no trails, this is the “smallest” room I can get the pedal down to, to use predominantly as an always-on tweak to my sound, just adding the lightest bit of reverb depth…and then you roll the (rate) dial up, bringing in the singing harmonies of the up-octave.

Wow! I was never really one for ambient sounds, being an old-school rock fan at heart, but the Caverns has totally changed my recent playing into spacescapes and soft melodies. You know you’re on to something a bit special when a pedal is influencing your paying style! Sturdily built, at a price that is actually probably less than you would expect to pay (given it sound like a top-end pedal), I fully recommend the Keeley Caverns v2.

I’ve had this pedal on my small board for five or six months, and I’ve been extremely pleased with it. I have separate reverb and delay pedals on my larger board, but this pedal could easily take the place of those if I didn’t already own them.

I’ve found that I’ve been using my smaller board more frequently than the larger board, so this pedal has been getting a great deal of use in recent months. To fully explain how I’ve been using this pedal, it might be helpful for you to understand the context in which it’s being used.

I purchased this pedal because of its terrific ambient settings, and my plan was to solely use it within a church/Christian rock setting. It quickly became obvious, however, that there was no need to “pigeon hole” this pedal into that particular setting.

As a result, I’ve also been using it during live rock and blues performances where its ambient performance capabilities are not as desirable. In those instances, I’ll use the two effects independently of one another.

For example, the amp head I use for blues gigs is not equipped with reverb, so I’ll switch the pedal’s reverb setting to spring, dial it in as necessary to add warmth and breadth to the guitar’s sound, and simply leave it on for the entire show.

In a rock setting, I’ll again set up the reverb and delay independently of one another with the understanding that the delay will be kicked in to fatten up solos in conjunction with a mid-boost pedal.

The available combinations are limited only by your imagination. No matter how you end up using the pedal, you’re getting some of Keeley’s best reverb and delay sounds in a terrific, well-designed, and board-friendly pedal that won’t break the bank.

Sound quality is subjective and everyone is looking for something a little different, but this pedal certainly works for me. Give it shot!.

Keeley makes two of the very best reverb and echo units. One is the Memphis Sun for the low fidelity tile room Sun Records ’50s rockabilly sound. This is also excellent and high fidelity. I like the simplicity of Keeley pedals to get that classic reverb and slap back sound I love.

I grew up adoring my father’s Echoplex EP3 in the ’70s. Keeley gives that full saturated sound in easy to use and understand pedals.

The best sounding analogue delay I’ve tried. Has a kind of dusty warmth to it that’s hard to describe. Don’t know any other analogue unit with 1. 5 secs of delay either. Having gain and modulation options is nice but the best parts of this pedal are the 2 momentary features.

Firstly, a secondary regeneration pot can be engaged with one foot switch to send the delay into self-oscillating swells. Secondly, the other footswitch engages the ‘rubbernecking’ feature, which can stretch or squeeze the delay time to create some crazy but gorgeous spacey sounds.

I do have a few criticisms if I’m being picky though. There’s no option to completely remove the dry signal; the controls for the rubbernecking and self-oscillating are too small and to close to the footswitches; I don’t know why you can only reach the max delay times with the tap tempo and not the dial and the tone control can very easily lead to the bass self-oscillating horror film sounds.

Nonetheless, these are all minor faults and it’s cracking pedal.

Very pleased to get a brand new DoD Rubberneck from under half of what others were charging. If that was your loss leader to get me to take a look at your site, it worked! I have already made a 2nd order.

As for the pedal, very cool, very weird, probably way more complex than I need as a beginner with pedals. DoD offers downloadable instructions, which Id give a solid B-. They probably make perfect sense for the delay-savvy types, but Ive got some homework to do before they make sense to me.

The instructions clearly describe what beach knob and button does, but doesnt really capture the interaction between them. To their credit, DoD does provide a cheat sheet of configurations in the manual that by itself was worth the time to download it.

Recommend including that page, plus the one page description/mapping of the buttons and switches in every box. I would recommend this to a delay-savvy friend. But for the newbies like me out there, consider something with fewer features.

garbage from an unethical company; pedal basically unrepairable — just about anything goes wrong on the board after warranty is up and it’s worthless — they literally told me to buy a new one. well, after having me go to their locally authorized service center and waste more money on bench fees.

Sound: From the perspective of someone who loves big washy ambient carry me away types of reverb, this pedal is full of top notch sounds. Many of the algorithms are standards for a box like this but some of them are pretty unique like the Extreme and Ethereal, and all are musical and useful.

The modulation is really good and the shimmer actually doesn’t suck. I’ve owned all the big name verbs, Strymon, Empress, Ventris, Neunaber, Specular Tempus, and this is well within that sonic ball park.

The pedal is best enjoyed in stereo. If you play mono you may not get as much out of it. I’d recommend you check out the Chords of Orion demo on YouTube to hear what this box is capable of. Features: The control interface and LED display are a little dated looking for sure, but they are functional and easy to navigate and easy for an old guy like me to see! No menus to fuss with and no PC editor needed.

I like that it has full size 5 pin MIDI in and through instead of TRS. I know TRS is the future but until they can all agree on what type of TRS it’s a pain and usually requires some sort of disaster area box to make them all talk.

This is straight up old school and I like it. I also like that it has 3 footswitches for quick preset changing. It also comes with a PSU which is always a plus, but will run off any standard pedalboard PSU that has 300ma or higher outputs.

The only slight nag I have is the clicky footswitches. I am spoiled by the smooth silent switches on most pedals these days. Other than that I can find no cons with this pedal. Ease of Use: Unlike a lot of gear most of the presets are usable for big verb sounds.

With the bulk of the operations done right on the front panel with knobs it’s very easy to tweak the presets and dial in your own great reverbs. Quality: It feels sturdy and well built. Not incredibly heavy but not cheap feeling either.

I would imagine over the years the plastic knobs would take a beating, but that stuff is easily replaceable. If you were wondering, they are made in Italy not Asia. Think Maserati not Fiat 🙂 Value: If you’ve priced out reverbs from Strymon and Empress then you know $300 is a great deal for a reverb this powerful.

Well worth the price if you ask me. Manufacturer Support: I’ve owned several IK hardware and software products over the years and used support a few times. They’ve always been pretty quick to respond considering the time difference etc.

They have a support forum as well that IK staff and other end users will respond for general questions etc. The Wow Factor: If you are into big sounds, P&W, ambient/experimental this is going to put a smile on your face.

Of course it does the standards quite well too so it will be at home on any pedalboard. If you like basic up front controls without lengthy and deep menus or a required PC editor, this pedal is going to put a smile on your face.

Overall: I normally wait until I’ve had some quality time with gear before I review it, but in this case I’ve not seen any customer reviews on these X pedals and wanted to get the word out! In my brief time with it I’m extremely pleased.

The sounds are top notch. IMHO it’s targeted towards people who enjoy ambient soundscapes more than folks just looking for a decent all and spring. It’s not inexpensive, but it definitely can hold its own against the big boys of reverb.

It’s probably no coincidence that they are of similar size and color to a well known effect company out of Westlake Village, but it’s not a copy by any means. The X-Space has its own voice. It has an old school appeal with a big LCD display and layout and the bright colors look cool on the board.

Overall I’m very pleased with this reverb and would recommend it to anyone looking for big verb sounds.

It’s basically a solid state amp in pedal form. It’s a little overwhelming at first with all of the bells and whistles. Take a second to skim the manual or watch a walkthrough on YouTube. When you first use the Librarian app (windows pc) and download the new firmware it will brick your X-Drive.

It will go dark and won’t function until you recover it. Luckily it’s an easy fix you can find online. With all the models and presets it’s easy to find a tone you like. With the tweak-ability you can get it close to the sound of your favorite pedals.

It’s also widely versatile in other ways. The headphone Jack is my favorite feature. Makes a quiet session quick and easy and sounds good without blowing out your ears. Or you can run it straight through an interface into your studio monitors.

The cab sims leave a little to be desired but this is an overdrive pedal so it doesn’t matter.

All the great Boss delays including the TeraEcho! I really like the pad echo as well. Great for stereo ambient scapes. MIDI control is fairly simple but it does what I need it to do. Control parameters are a bit tough to interpret so you def have to read the manual on this one.

Overall it’s a great sounding delay at a good price, I just wish the controls were a little simpler and it had a little more MIDI power, oh and damn Boss. What’s with the 3. 5 TRS midi and the ridiculous price you charge for the cable??? Thankfully I make my own and I would suggest others do the same.

Really delivers a lot for the price point. I wanted a delay to do nearly everything and do it well, and this does it. I’m more of a digi, tape & analog delay user, and I don’t care much for the more “out there” options, but they are fun to mess with.

I use this in mono 99% of the time, so my only gripe against the pedal doesn’t really matter much at all. I wish it had a wider stereo field and wish it had a ping pong options in settings, but again, I use it in mono mostly, so no big deal.

The DD-200 is super easy to dial in and presets work simply. I like that it has a dedicated Manual mode so I can just use it without worrying about presets. Awesome delay.

The Nemenis Delay is the most impressive delay I ever played. The sounds are amazing!!! There are 12 different Delay engines on the pedal with additional 12 engines with app and editor. I’m not a person who like to spend to much time on tweaking parameters e t c.

But on this pedal its not a big deal and simple to understand and the given sound are fantastic. The app which is easy to use, and you get the cable to connect to your phone, you have i. e. Oil drum delay engine.

Never heard of that delay before and is a sound I really like. As I’m not used to tweaking a lot, it took some time before I could use the Desk Top Editor. That cable was not included so I needed to order that separately.

My suggestion would be to include that cable and maybe skip the DC9 adapter instead. Its just a DC9 200mA. I would be more than happy with the pedal even if the App and the Editor was not included, it is a v.

I could happily talk all day about why I love the Nemesis! There aren’t many delay pedals I haven’t owned at one point or another, I considered myself a collector or reverbs and delays, having a stereo pair for many of my favorites, such as the Canyon, Dispatch Master, Vapor Trail and ARP-87 just to name a small few.

That all started to change when I got my first Nemesis ( I now own 2 with a 3rd to be added soon, Triple Delay madness anyone?) I began using the Neuro app to try and replicate other delay pedals that I had.

When I was successful, I felt that I no longer “had” to have the replicated pedal, and I have thinned my collection of pedals almost to nothing but the nemesis for my delay solutions! I use my pedals for keys, VOX and foley sound design.

I design for film, TV and video games. The Nemesis along with many other Source Audio One Series have pretty much taken over for me because of the versatility and ease of dialing in customs sounds and being able to experiment easily!.

I use Nemesis with the momentary switch to access my presets. Very handy for live performance. Most of the delay categories are quite useful and sound very good. Tweakers paradise with Neuro mobile app.

I can make changes anywhere. That is very sweet. I own three other delay units. All are different and fun to use. I judge an effect by how it makes me play. It has to push my creative button and it has to make me want to play and explore.

This pedal does that. It’s expensive, but not over priced. Big difference.

I’m coming to this review as a Wampler fan but for 100% honesty I will tell you what’s great and what’s not great. 1st it sounds fantastic! Very clean and clear sounding distortion. No midrange hump.

It’s takes the sound of your guitar and slams the front end of the amp. Very touch sensitive at lower gain levels and gets more slippery and smooth at max gain. The gain doesn’t flub out at the highest levels either.

No fizz no fuzzy low end. It’s a tight modern distortion pedal. The negative is the amount of white noise added to the signal chain. With your guitar’s volume all the way off the hiss is still rather obnoxious.

But who buys a pedal to run with the volume off??? Not an amp in a box. If you already dislike your sound this won’t cover up a bad sounding rig. It’s gives you your rig X 10. Worth it.

I received this pedal as a gift from my bro for my 50th birthday last year and to say it was exactly what I wanted, is a total understatement. I had recently purchased a Fender Blues Jr. III amp that I use live but as you may (or may not know) the overdrive in a FBJR is a tad on the bluesy side (well, duh!).

Because the band I’m in runs the gamut of rock tunes, I require slightly bluesy overdrive to more 80s metal sounds and everything in between. I went on a quest to find the right overdrive/distortion pedal and nothing was cutting if.

I finally settled on something else when Wampler’s Sovereign Distortion Pedal literally Dues Ex Machina’d the whole thing and saved my sound! Yes, it’s on the expensive side but it’s a boutique pedal, so you know what you’re getting into price wise.

The fact that I didn’t have to pay for it, was a blessing certainly, but now knowing how good it is, I would have bought one anyway had I been able to try one out. Trust me, I tried a ton of pedals (on rental at my local pro shop and went back every couple of days saying “Nope, what else you got?”) looking for that right one and was always close, but not close enough.

The pedal is well made, features a satisfying crunchy engaging click and has enough knobs to dial in a multitude of sounds. If you’ve got a bright guitar, there’s a switch for that, if you’ve got a not so bright guitar, there’s a switch for that! The Mid Behaviour control allows you to subtly arrive at just the right tone – and you really have to see the difference it makes shifting a bit to the right or left.

It’s touchy but in a good way. Same goes for the Tone control. Crank the Gain all the way and you’ll be at that satisfying 80s hard rock / metal sound. Bright, punchy and cutting. Watch some videos on it and see if it’s the pedal you’re looking for.

Worked wonders for me!.

Revamping a stage rig, second Wampler product I’ve bought in a few weeks. Very pleased with construction, control layout and sound. Using the Ego to add a little sweet sustain to an analog to Fender amp signal chain,used for variety pop – rock, funk, jazz, country, whatever.

With attack and blend almost all the way down and sustain and tone dialed relatively high I get a very natural attack from Gibson and D’Angelico hums and Strat single coils, while adding a long tail sustain with some nice sparkle.

I leave it on most of the time now for anything except fingerstyle jazz when I need a more percussive sound. Works great with the blend turned way up into a heavy squash for funk rhythm and country chicken-pickin’.

Can’t speak to longevity, I’ve only had it on three gigs and one session so far, but it seems solid. Not noisy, no tone-suck unless you dial it in that way.

This is a fantastic delay. I always had a bad impression of digital delays from years of dealing with cheap ones. but this thing sounds great. The repeats are clean without harsh artifacts. The tap tempo is easy to use and a great tool to have.

And the ratio knob makes this a Swiss army knife of delay styles. This kicked my carbon copy to the curb.

I really like BBE pedals, and I love delay pedals. This one is well made and sturdy, with quality knobs (Telecaster style) and switches, and like all BBE pedals, has recently had a graphics change. The cartoonish images are gone, which is fine by me.

They now have a different grade of rubber pad on the bottom, which has that objectionable Chinese rubber smell that doesn’t seem to go away. No longer do you get a power source (wall wart), but instead you get a cheap battery.

The rather brief instruction manual states that this pedal uses 200mA. My Way Huge Aqua-Puss pedal used 16mA. The LED to indicate that the unit is on is directly behind the “Time 2” knob, and is not visible if you are sitting down.

It is true-bypass, analog, and has two time knobs (hence the name) and a selector switch, complete with an LED to let you know which time setting you are on. This may close the deal for some, but I have little use for two settings on a delay, and find the always-on time LED annoying This is a rugged, solid effects pedal, and is visually attractive, in a sort of metallic-cranberry high-gloss enamel color.

I use mostly delays and compressors for effects, and like a delay for slap-back on country tunes. The Two Timer can do slap-back as well as quite a bit more, having ample controls. However, I find the tone to be too brittle and harsh.

I use the above-mentioned Aqua-Puss, and I occasionally use a Danelectro FAB Echo. The Aqua-Puss has a chewy, organic sound, and the FAB Echo is a one-trick pony that does a super job of slap-back. To my ear, they both sound better than the Two Timer.

Your mileage may very, and your ear might disagree, but I can’t recommend this pedal.

I wanted a simple stomp delay for solos. The two delay times are a bonus, as I can set a slapback/doubling/reverb type thing for laying back and a longer echo for solos. You cannot set feedback and mix separately for the two delay times, so you have to compromise.

The delayed sound is pretty aggressively low-passed, which is more noticeable on the shorter delays, and I would have preferred a clearer sound, but it is OK for the price and convenience. I doubt anyone will notice it on stage.

The manual says that alkaline batteries last for 30 hours, which is good.

This is a great sounding delay. The dry path sounds excellent and the delay quality is very high, especially considering it is bucket brigade chips. The tone control is an excellent addition, allowing the character of the delay signal to be tweaked to suit any application.

The gain control allows the user to push the repeats harder or to ease off, which is similar in functionality to the Record level on an Echoplex. The delay line can be brought up louder than the dry signal which is great for compensating for volume loss from more extreme frequency cuts via the tone dial.

It has a unique voice among other analog delays and it justifies its place among other BBD delays such as the Carbon Copy, Memory Man and Boss DM offerings. Nowadays the once-unique tap tempo controls have been since copied on other units, but it is still fun to use, offers great controls and the chase mode options are still in a class of their own.

A fantastic sounding pedal with intuitive controls and a great price from PMT.

I did a lot of hunting around and watched a lot of demos and surprisingly Way Huge Supa-Puss was the hands down winner! No fake robot sounding delays, easy to understand and adjustable on the fly with a bullet proof yet crazy cool front panel.

I always wanted a delay that could keep the trails going while you began to play again and Supa-Pus does this. It is true bypass like all my pedals unless you use the aforementioned feature. It has all the features of any modern Delay except it is Analog and gives you back any sort of sounding repeat you like; clean, dirty, half wet, heavy mids, muffled, and more.

And best of all no 80s Pacman goofy sounding Delay like a few competitors. This is the one for me,now you decide.

When I started thinking about a delay pedal, I started listing features that I found desirable. Analog components, tap tempo, sub divide, stuff that makes it sound good, and something that is easily operated and applied to live proformance.

With those guidelines in mind, the two pedals that come to mind are the Supa Puss, and the EHX Memory Boy Deluxe. In my mind, the MBD soared above. The Supa Puss was poorly exicuted. You cant push the feedback knob or the gain knob past 12 with it freaking out.

I know its analog, and thats what they do, but the memory boy has a much larger range as far as gain and feedback. Also the MBD has a dedicated subdivide button, on the Supe Puss, you push the fead back knob in, which can get annoying.

On the other side of that, the Supa Puss has a dedicated tone control, where the MMD, you have to hold the Exp. button for 2 sec, and then it turns the rate knob in a eq. As far as modulations go, the Supa Puss takes that one, but only by a little.

The Supa Puss also is a little cleaner ( aka sounds more digital), where as the MBD has a much warmer darker delay sound. The Supa Puss takes up less pedal board real estate, so thats a plus. They are both built like tanks.

The foot switches on the Supa Puss are super ungratifing to push ( I know not that important, but common its a little important). The on/off switch on the MBD is a full latch, and the tap is a half Latch ( in my opinion more desirable).

The final thing to consider is price. The MBD costs less, about fifty less, which if your a musician on a budget (which now adays who isn’t), is a plus. Dont let the word budget scare you away, you get just as much pedal, if not more, for less.

I ended up going for the MBD, and i dont regret it at all. It i an excellent pedal.

As far as options and sounds go, it’s a fantastic pedal, especially at that price point. The toneprint app isn’t the easiest to use, especially through a USB connection to an android device, but then again it is a great option that most pedals don’t offer.

My issues with this pedal are that it’s unreliable; mine turns off, or turns on the effect, without any input from the user. Right in the middle of playing, randomly, it will shut off, or turn on! You can see how this is a problem ! Like I mentioned the problem is pretty random.

Sometimes it goes weeks without issuues, other times it will do it several times during the day. In hindsight, I would have purchased something else.

I just bought it today. This is my first TC Electronic pedal and in one word – it’s awesome. I was thinking to buy some effect processor, however now I have two delay pedals (another with tap tempo) on my pedalboard and that’s it.

Perfect for a live performance. Tone Print is a great solution, you can create 3 different effects. I notice many complain that Flashback 2 doesn’t have a tap tempo switch. You can always get an affordable external one and plug it into the lower input.

The fact is that this turns off the stereo option, but you wanted a tap tempo. About the true bypass – this pedal has it. If you disconnect the power DC cable, the sound is there so no doubt. Otherwise, you can build a true bypass box with 3pdt switches for every pedal on your p-board if you need a cleaner signal.

Still, the cleanest signal is: guitar -> cable -> amp. Just a few words about the delay time. Many guitarists think that if a pedal has a long delay time (e. g over 1000 ms) it is a good pedal. The point is in the quality of the effect and the quality of the workmanship.

TC Flashback 2 owns both. Even with 7s delay time.

Purchased this pedal some four years ago and I have found it to be smooth, easy to use, is compatible with my other pedals and amps and is very reliable. I found it to be very responsive and the sounds I can get from it are remarkable considering the price of this unit.

It leave alot of other pedals lacking in many ways. I highly recommend this pedal. Tony.

Joyo JF-08 Digital Delay Guitar Effects Pedal Bought this after seeing a couple of demo’s on YouTube. Am quite pleased with it. Solid case and has a good range of sounds that can be achieved. Have no trouble in recommending it.

I was super impressed! I had recently bought the Carbon Copy Anolog Delay by MXR for $280 and it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. So when I saw this for $59 I really wasn’t expecting much, but I was surprised at how good it sounds.

Now I can actually play the intro to “Rope” by Foo Fighters! Only drawback is that it does add a slight bit of distortion, scarecly noticeable.

After numerous reviews and videos, and pondering over this for years, I finally took the plunge and bought a brand new Maxon AD9 Pro. Having owned an original Maxon-built Ibanez UE-305 multi-effect in the 1980s for literally decades, I am very familiar with (and love) the bucket brigade analog delay repeats.

I’ve also owned a few Echoplexs, a Space Echo, and other delay pedals. Well Maxon has done an amazing job putting just the right features on the AD9 Pro and it’s amazing both in-front of an amp and in the effects loop.

From subtle to over to ambient effects, the 400ms is enough to take you right back to that classic analog echo bliss! It really shines for shorter delays but I also love the longer repeats that only have the most minimal warming/darkening of tones as the repeats extend.

Simply beautiful. The dual-head feature is nice to really fill-out the sound if you don’t have a second delay, but right now I’m running this stacked with a digital delay. Signal chain is effects send > AD9 pro > Analogman (True) Stereo Analog Chorus > TC Electronics Nova Delay (digital) and the combination is absolutely mind-blowing.

Throw in a little reverb and it’s Pink Floyd / David Gilmour all night long! The true-bypass is flawless and my only minor gripe is that like all Maxon 9-series pedals, you need to step accurately to engage the switch.

That just comes with the territory because the entire pedal is heavy, solid, built like a tank and honestly seems indestructible. Caveat: As it states on Maxon’s website, make sure you use an AC adapter or power supply that can supply sufficient current.

My Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II runs it just fine from a high power port (200mA) and it also runs well on a Boss PSA 120. Also, if you buy a brand new AD9, give it a day or so to break-in and from then on it sounds better every day! Is it expensive? Yes, but this pedal is the best musical investment I’ve made in a very long time.

My delay search is finally over!.

Thought it was a little pricey, but always found something lacking in my delay pedals. used it for a couple of months before registering warranty. Went back and tried my wampler and keeley pedals. Fine pedals but i prefer the Maxon, hands down.

The maxon is dead quiet. Does not affect my tone in the least bit. Delay, and nothing but delay. That was my biggest issue with my other pedals. would get dialed in,hit the pedal and my tone would go off in another direction.

Also got clock noise from the wampler. The Maxon just sits in the back and does its thing without altering my base sound. I don’t use it for extreme effect, but I do leave it on 90% of the time. sounds fine out front of the amp or in the effects loop.

Not always the case with other pedals. I believe its probably the last delay I will buy. Also built like a tank.

On the commonly used scale of “warm sounding” the AD-9 Pro is fairly neutral, meaning that the delayed signal sounds like the dry signal. With my AD-80 and AD-900, the delayed signal sounds “warmer”, or less bright than the dry signal.

If you start with a warm dry sound, the AD-9 Pro will give you a warm delay sound. The outstanding feature of this pedal, shared only with the AD-999 Pro is the multi tap head setting, which gives a second “head” repeat not evenly spaced between the first and next repeats.

Using delay for ambient room sound, this is much more realistic than a single evenly spaced repeat, as not many rooms have only one wall reflecting sound back at you. If you like the multi tap sound, the AD-999 Pro does it even better with three extra taps, but the AD-9 Pro is the only battery powered multi tap true analog delay available (that I know of, could be others).

It sounds great for slapback as well, but on a dollar for millisecond basis it’s not the best deal if you don’t want the multi tap. OTOH, if you haven’t used a multi tap delay you may not yet know how much you really want it.

Build quality is second to none, Maxon cuts no corners here and the value is as solid as the pedal. But I did hunt for a less than retail price, expensive, ouch!.

Its an spectacular experience making musical arrangements! The best toy I’ve got for Christmas . I’m having lots of fun !

i’ve found that it does everything I need and wanted and is just as good as the deluxe version but half the price. electro harmonic never fails and their vintage goods are truly untouchable when it comes to classic beautiful tone.

Used but sounds great, good value and came earlier than expected, would definitely recommend.
