20 Best Cycling Shoes For Triathlon (2023 Updated)

I’ve owned these shoes for 4 years now and have ridden them for all my riding, not just triathlons. And they’re still in amazing shape even through everything I’ve put them through. I see there is review saying the strap doesn’t come off and its hard for people to get their foot in.

The strap doesn’t come off because during a triathlon race that would be very annoying as it could potentially be wasted time in transition. So I think they are a great tri shoe. For the price, cant go wrong and I will purchase again.

They are a narrow shoe. I will say the sizing is off. you do need to size up a couple of sizes.

Purchased a 39, which is a half size too big for my 7. 5 or 38. 5 size feet, definitely fit like a 38 or even 37. 5. I liked that the shoe is narrow and for slim feet. It was a bit of a struggle to get them on, once on, I liked that they felt snug around the arch.

I imagine these will be difficult to fit in if you have an average arch or high arch, I run low and lean and I struggled to get into them. Returning without using them.

41.5 cm is perfect for me. My Sidi was also 41.5. Great price! Love the Boa design, my first. Will move the cleats over soon and takes some time to break in the shoe. Hopefully it can replace my Sidi…

Have had these for about 2 months using both inside and outside and I have no complaints. The velcro straps work well and keep my foot secure. I’m a size 9 in pretty much all other shoes, and the size 9 in these cycling shoes fits very well.

If you’re going to using with thin cycling socks, you could consider going a half size down, but not necessary. Fits pretty well true to size.

I bought these when upgrading my hybrid bike’s pedals to the Shimano SPD SL system. This is my first foray into proper road shoes and I couldn’t believe how incredibly light these shoes are after using MTB shoes (without cleats) but they also feel very sturdy.

The three velcro straps provide a great fit around the foot. I am usually a UK size 9 shoe so went up to the EU 44 (UK 9. 5) and they are pretty snug – I probably could have got away with the EU 45 but I’m not in any discomfort when riding or walking.

There is also plenty of ventilation through the shoe which I noticed as soon as I started riding in them. I look forward to many more miles in my Shimano RC1s!.

I really love these shoes. I teach regular cycle and also cycle & strength/cycle bootcamp style classes, and these are the best cycle shoes that I could have gotten. They make it very easy to attach the cleats, very easy to slip on, the fit is adjustable and comfortable, the shoe is sturdy and well-made, and I have a much better ride and workout than I did compared to just wearing tennis shoes.

If you are looking for great cycle shoes and/or great cycle cleated shoes that can be worn for versatile cycle classes, then these are it. I really appreciate being able to get off the bike and walk around to grab water, get a sweat towel, and do strength workouts combined with cycle training with ease.

I also feel that I am getting a better workout on the bike. They allow for better foot placement and focus through my legs. I am just a happy customer. I look forward to trying the new outdoor cycle shoes in the future!.

Purchased a pair of these shoes for my wife for Christmas. She had previously read through reviews and decided that these spin shoes were what she wanted. On the website it suggests sizing a half size down from your regular shoe size (she wears a size 6 in practically everything and has a very normal, somewhat narrow foot) so we went with 5.

5 sizing. Upon receiving them she tried them on and they ended up being incredibly tight and uncomfortable at the point they would be unwearable. You would think it’s not the biggest deal to get the sizing wrong EXCEPT for the fact that they charge $75 USD for shipping and duties (at the time was about $95 CAD) which is non-refundable and they make you pay for return shipping (cost was about $27 CAD with Canada Post) bringing it to $122 CAD just to try on a pair of shoes that wouldn’t fit based on their websites recommendation.

My wife really likes the look of the shoe and wants to re-order in a size 6 but is extremely hesitant as if those don’t fit, being out another $120 CAD ($240 CAD total) to return them once more with nothing to show for it isn’t the most appetizing scenario.

It is what it is and it is clearly stated on the website, but just wanted my fellow international buyers to know the cost of the risk of them not fitting properly (even according to how they should fit on the website).

I’ve never had spin shoes that I loved. They have only been just a thing I needed to perform better and have better control in spin classes. However, these are next level!!! It was worth the splurge $! And this color is super fun.

I have pretty average feet (not narrow, not wide). These don’t make my feet fall asleep like some other brands I’ve used in the past. I wear a size 9 in my regular shoes and the size 9 fit perfect. I was a little concerned about clipping in because the cleats don’t protrude like my other spin shoes but it was no problem on my bike at home and at the spin studio.

Not being able to exercise at the gym due to the pandemic, I decided to give home spin classes a try. I’m purchased the Schwinn IC4, swapped out the pedals with a pair that are compatible with my husband’s existing road cycle setup, and purchased these shoes.

I wear a 9. 5US so I purchased these in 42. They fit well but I imagine they might run a tad small for some. I have a narrow heel that easily slips out of most shoes but not with these. I love how easy it is to put them on, take them off, and adjust if needed mid ride.

I can’t compare these with other shoes since I’m new to indoor cycling but so far I have no reason to look elsewhere.

This is my first brand new pair of cycling shoes. Up until now I have been riding on slightly used pairs to get an idea as to which one I would prefer. I’ve tried ones with the velcro straps, the ratchet strap and I have to say the BOA lacing system is my favourite so far.

Easy to adjust and fast to take off. It took about 60 Kms to break in the shoe. Everything about it felt great except there was a slight rub on the inside of my left ankle. It made me realize that I was pointing my left toe upwards when I peddaled, which caused the rub.

Straightening out my foot solved the mystery. Now after several rides the shoe feels amazing. Good amount of room in the toe box. The shoe looks great and I am very happy with my purchase.

I have very average feet. I have worn Shimano and Specialized shoes with no issues and not requiring wide fitting sizes. This shoe has nice construction and a fun style. The volume control is nice, but the footbed is so narrow it causes foot numbness for me.

Unfortunately I installed cleats and I am unable to return the shoe. I also couldn’t have found this issue without a ride, I walked around in the shoe for an hour on carped before mounting the cleats and didn’t discover the issue.

3 stars for the shoe quality and looks, lost 2 stars for strange fit and poor return/exchange policy.

Absolutely love these shoes and they can’t be beat for the price. These arrived in the middle of the week and I did a few short rides to make sure the cleats were in the right spot and then took off for 50+ miles on Saturday.

Can easily be ridden with or without socks. Nice and snug around the mid foot, yet spacious at the toes. Sizing is dead on the chart and my size 12 sneaker fits perfectly in the 46s. These are stiffer than my previous Specialized mountain bike shoes but not quite as stiff as a carbon road shoe.

Should make for an amazing summer of gravel roads in the near by national forest.

SIZE SELECTION – EURO 43. Typically I am a 43 and these fit perfect. I do have fairly widish feet but the fore foot area has plenty of room. ***My road shoes are SIDI Wire 2 Carbon Air which were ordered a 1/2 size up (43.

5) as recommended by SIDI, these also are a very good fit. Then there was much debate what size to order the T5 Air however I settled on 43 thinking that the style of the upper shoe which is quite open and adjustable by the velcro straps plus I will not be wearing socks.

The size choice was correct QUALITY – Solid shoes that will last a long time COMFORT – The inside lining delivers comfort with bare feet. Nothing irritating using these over a 90K TT PERFORMANCE – Nice and light shoe with good power delivery.

Easy to get your feet in and out during transition. Velcro straps work well. Heel support is adequate SUMMARY – Worth the cost.

Construction is suspect for a $250 plus carbon shoe, the buckle pulled out after just a couple races and the warranty department at Sidi wants nothing to do with you.

Comfortable and light. Fits true to size. Great for speedy transitions.

Bought these as a replacement for S-Works. They’re a nice pair of shoes. I have some Fizik road and mountain bike shoes. For triathlon they have the heel loop. I’m a bit reticent about pulling it, as the S-Works I had lasted two events before the strap broke.

These feel more substantial though. The Boa fitting is great. Easy to fasten and unfasten on the bike on the bike for running mount and flying dismount. Only wonder why they put 2 on the shoe – one would seem tomake more sense.

Nice, stiff carbon soles. Fit as for my other Fizik – up a size to 44 from 43, so slightly small for size. As always good price and great sercvice from Sigma Sports.

Bought these as a combo between a top road cycling shoe and tri shoe. The boa system makes these work well for both purposes – super easy to use. Comfy shoes but full carbon footbed has left my feet a numb after long rides – maybe need some more cushioning or insoles or it could just ne that I’m not used to such a stiff sole.

Light weight, breathable and look good. Rubber heal grip does well in triathlons. Interchangeable heal cup saves sole and can be replaced separately which is nice.

Lightweight and super stiff shoe thanks to the carbon sole that allows you to transfer all the power expressed to the pedals. The best thing is the adjustment of the fit through the double BOA which allows an incredible fit.

They cost but it’s worth it.

Such a great shoe! Definitely true to size. I bought an 11 initially because that’s what I buy on all of my other walking shoes/jogging shoes. I usually buy that because you usually get a half size up for that.

But you do not want to do that on the shoes they are very true to size you don’t need the extra room on a spinning shoe. I returned them and got a 10 1/2 and they are perfect. They are so light they’re so comfortable.

It’s super easy to put in the cleat. And they are awesome to walk around with afterwards. I also love the drawstring to tie them. Super easy and fast and I love how you can Tuck the shoe strings in so they doesn’t get caught in the bike.

I love them so much I immediately got a black pair. I would recommend these to anybody!. I had spinning shoes before that were nowhere close to comfortable esses and they were supposed to be tennis shoe like and they were nothing like these these are amazing! i got the blue via.

The VIA shoes are absolutely incredible. I am a road cyclist and ordered a pair with the intention to clip in when riding but when I am finished with the ride and still need to walk around, I can do so with comfort and ease without ruining the clips on the bottom of my shoes or walking like a duck as I usually did in the normal cycling shoes.

Purchased Sz 8. 5 for my normal (not wide) Sz 8. 5 feet; they are beyond comfy no matter what the road delivers!.

Bought these with high expectations, tried them on around the house and the fit appeared to be ok. However, went out for a long ride and started to experience pain where the boa is located at around 40miles that just got worse and worse.

Couldn’t wait to get them off. IMO poor design to have the boa located where it is.

Excellent service from Sigmasport, super quick delivery to mainland Scotland. Shoes are so nice and so comfy, they have quite a lot of ventilation. I was a bit doubtful of which size to go for and I ended up going for EU43.

5 280mm which they fit perfect. For reference only my both feet measure 275mm length, 100mm wide one and 102mm the other. I also have a pair of Giro Empires size UK9. 5 EU44 US10. 5 CM28 and I would say they fit pretty much the same.

I hope this may help someone that is also doubtful about sizing.

Good look and value. Clips fitted into shoe, slight problem with sliding movement for adjustment, but soon sorted. Would recommend. May buy a spare pair!

I saw other reviews saying the shoes run small so I ordered 1/2 size up but they were still too small for me. I returned them and got a full size up from my regular shoe size and they fit great! The cleats were easy to install (I watched a YouTube video).

They’re super breathable – my in-studio classes are outdoors and they’re almost too breathable because my feet are cold during early morning classes 🙂 based on other reviews I was concerned that the sole wouldn’t be stiff enough but they’re fine even with a lot of resistance in and out of the saddle.

I have a Peloton at home and love my Peloton shoes. I bought the Nike’s for in-studio classes with SPD clips and I’m extremely happy with them.

This is my second pair in a different color that I have tried. Sent the first pair back because they didn’t feel good. Tried of brands of cycling shoes and went back to these in the white. They look great in person and are well made.

Much lighter than the Peloton shoes and breath more. Installing clips is easy but the ridges on the toes makes adjustments a little weird. Order a half size smaller and they will fit like a glove which is good.

Still breaking them in but so far pretty good. Keeping these!.

I usually do not write reviews, but I hope someone finds this helpful. I recently purchased these shoes online just in time before my Peloton Bike+ arrived. The shoes looked great out of the box, and I was excited to try these.

Unfortunately I was quickly disappointed because the shoes did not come with the 3-hole mounting brackets which are essential for the cleats. After reading reviews, I’m glad I returned these shoes. I hope other people don’t experience the same issue.

I am new to spinning and cycling with SPD cleats, so I don’t have a point of reference with other shoes. The nice parts: they are lightweight, breathable, and very adjustable for a tight fight. When you’re spinning inside and sweating buckets, your feet stay cool.

The things I’d fix: a stiffer, more rigid insole to provide more support when really pushing hard or standing out of the saddle. I’ve heard other brands bend much less from front to back of foot. Sizing is small even by Nike standards.

I am a 10 in other brands, 10. 5 in other Nike running shoes, 11 in these. Price is a bit high for an entry level cycling shoe.

Shoes are really light and a reasonably comfy fit ( a wide fitting would suit me a little better but the toe box strap can be loosened) I’m getting used to new rear strap orientation but haven’t tried it at race pace.

Will be a great summer shoe. Pushys service and communication was excellent.

These are the newest iterations of Bont’s Vaypor S. Nothing has really changed since the last model except these come with the BOA Li2 dials, which i can say work very well. Bont’s work well for some and not so well for others.

If you find they work well with your feet, they are amazing. Make sure to use Bont’s sizing guide available on their website before ordering. My pair ended up being a little too narrow for me but they do offer a wide version which i will most likely pull the trigger on.

The soles are incredibly stiff. like no give at all. The heat moulding is straight forward and after a couple of rounds in the oven, youll find the configuration that works best for you.

Since switching to barefoot shoes my feet have returned to their natural wide shape and my cycling shoes became way too uncomfortable. Searching around these looked like some of the best high performance road shoes catering to wide feet and they certainly don’t disappoint.

Regarding sizing I measured carefully and followed the guidance and actually went 2x half sizes up, this still wasn’t enough. Definitely measure carefully and go at least half or a whole size up. One very hassle free return and reorder later and 1.

5 sizes bigger than the sizing guide suggested, these are the perfect fit. Loads of width in the to box and forefoot to accommodate wide feet but still able to achieve a really snug fit using the twin boas and having heat moulded to tighten the heel cup slightly.

Finish quality is fantastic, they might be on the pricey side but they feel worth it. Really low profile styling and great ventilation for summer and indoor rides. The shoes are also incredibly light and stiff, with a really direct feel through the pedals.

I was expecting something very moldable like the italian brand technica boots,for 400 dollars— I hardly notice any change at 160F. I called and Bont said its only a slight change. then they’ve worn very quickly! After only 2000 mile the the heal and vent cover pieces have fallen off.

The bolt holding the heal is plain steel and has rusted in place and now needs to be drilled out. I guess bont didn’t count on sweet, or real interest in moldability. I think I’ll try Lake when I give up on these.

With my previous shoes I thought I will never be able to succeed in T1 transition with getting shoes on while on the bike. These shoes are so easy to pull on and tighten while on the bike. Comfortable and great quality.

I would order 1 size up from your normal shoe size.

Bought these to replace old Shimano tri shoes that had lasted 10 yrs! Super comfortable. Am doing IM Lanza on 2021 – was planning on using road shoes but these are so comfortable will prob use these instead.

Only reason why not 5 stars is I am still not convinced by electric blue colour!.

Everything was smooth except the delivery took some times due to the customs. The shoes definitely a must have for Triathletes who look for fast transition, comfort, and power. Hit PR on my 1st ride with them.

My third NW tribute SPD shoes. Good look and good quality. but the midfoot velcro design is not good. The midfoot velcro is too long and very easy to interfer with crank.

Very comfortable shoes, nicely made. Quick to put on and take off – that was it. The parcel arrived after a few days, I had a preview in the ups system the whole time. I recommend 🙂

Excellent shoes true to size, great service and follow up

Given this is a top of the line shoe, expectations are high. The improvement areas: 1) Cleat holes. These need to be either drilled further back, or, allow for more movement. Also the position of the cleat holes, in my opinion, should allow the cleat to be straight when in the default position.

the default position is when the cleat is furthest back and in the middle of the shoe. when the cleat is in this position, the heel is inward, which i find awkward. As a work around, you can turn the cleat, but the end result is the cleat is further up, which puts more pressure on the ball of the foot.

2) The insole. Back in 2013/14 my bontrager RXL shoes came with a very good heat moldable insole as standard. had great met and arch support. So, i ended up using the insole from the old shoes my new ones.

Would be great to have this part of the shoe improved. I have had a hard time finding aftermarket insoles that do not change the overall fit of the shoe. I find that i loose a lot of heel security with aftermarket insoles since the lift the foot out of the shoe.

3) the bottom boa dial, i find over-tightens the front inside part of the shoe, but leaves the outside of the foot loose. 4) The heel cup is pretty good, but i think it can be a bit stiffer. The sworks shoe nailed this component.

The strong areas: 1) Stiff sole 2) Secure foot hold 3) lots of volume in the toe box 4) well vented.

I used to go with an italian brand before (s**i). they are so narrow that my toes were felling asleepafter one houre ride. so I tried several shoes at my local bikestore and also from one friend with equal shoe size.

I took the Bontrager shies out for a ride on a 100k day. Positive: They are everything else but narrow in the frontal area. So plenty of space for the toes. They are super stiff. Negative: The upper BOA-Ring was pushing on my foot.

I couldn’t find the right tightninglevel. When I was loosening the BOA, I felt like my heel was too loose. When I thightend it up to get perfect hold, the upper BOA was putting unconfortable pressure to my foot.

Pitty. the shoe looks great and is simply superlight. Maybe Bontrager can solve this in an next generation shoe. But at this pricelevel I’m expecting super confort. Maybe it is my fault (or my feet fault).

Moved away from Bont Vaypor S. just too hard on the foot. Great for power transfer but to me just too harsh a ride. The Bontrager XXX wins hands down, straight out of the box comfort. The upper is uber soft but the boas can be dialled in to give you that snug grip, no problems.

No hot spots and really don’t know that they’re there, which for a high end purchase does seem a bit disconcerting. Rest assured they are. Bontrager have mixed modern materials, demands for the pros in terms of sole stiffness, weight and adjustability whilst remembering that we are not robots; our feet need room to move!! Style is understated but I say that’s a good thing and in white they look fresh.

So far they are keeping clean! Love ‘em!!!!.
