20 Best Cushions For Tailbone Pain (2023 Updated)

I broke my tailbone right before thanksgiving 2016. Didn’t go to Dr for a week and pain was unbearable. Couldn’t sit unless I was leaning forward with better than average perfect posture. And I had to forget sitting in chuech and leaning back.

Finally went to Dr. (7months later) bc I wasn’t getting any comfort. He said all I needed was one of these pillows. I thought he was crazy. But oh well what did i know. So I got one. And I was a miracle I couldn’t believe a pillow could make such a difference.

I am actually healing now and can sit somewhat back on Certain chairs. I even recommended this to friends. It worked for me.

I think it is not bad for the price. but it is pretty thick and does not conform as much as i expected. It’s not uncomfortable but does have a bit of a booster seat effect. It might work better for some people or in other situations but for me with my height and with the office chair i have it is not a good fit.

My wife fell and broke the end of her tailbone off! Doctor says it will take 6 months to heal and she will always have chronic pain, she also has a cracked hip too! She loves this pillow, it helps a lot, but she is still in a lot of pain! She was sitting on pillows from the bed until we got this memory foam cushion, we use it in the car also! We ordered another one to keep in the car!.

I injured my tailbone from snowboarding and got recommended by my doctor to get a donut cushion. It’s been a week since I’ve been using and it’s okay, not super good. It’s not soft or hard. Though it’s medium, so if I sit on it for too long my butt/thigh gets sore from it.

Couple hours may be ok but no longer than that. My thighs get sore cuz it’s just my butt on the cushion and then my thighs are on the edge of the seat. Even If I put the donut all the way to the front, it doesn’t hit the purpose cuz then I’m basically sitting on my tailbone again.

My chair seat is bigger than the cushion so I have to place it in the middle to back so the hole is aligned with my tailbone. Every now and then I have to adjust it to get comfortable again. I suppose it relieves the pain but it’s not that comfortable.

I sit in other places too like around my house or go outside, so I can’t always bring it around. When I remove the cushion and sit in my own chair it’s like a relief I’m not sitting on a rock.

Such a smarter way to design this seat cushion so it can be used as a donut pillow as well. Just remove the middle insert and Voila, it’s a donut pillow :). It’s that easy! But the nice thing is I can use the removed insert as my extra arm/wrist rest or back support to help with the pain on my arm as well as my back.

It works out great so far. I do have another U-shape memory foam seat cushion that I usually turned around to provide the donut-like hole, I know it’s not the right way to use that type of seat cushion but it was more helpful to me that way, back to front and front to back.

But with this pillow, it really does not matter since the front is pretty much the same as the back with the hole in the center. As a male, I can see this as a great help for people with prostate and hemorrhoid, that center gap or channel with the donut hole does provide enough room and support for such symptoms as well as air circulation to keep it cool.

As for the memory foam on this pillow, it is a little harder than my old memory foam but not too bad. After a few days sitting on it, I hardly noticed the difference, I guess my behind got used to it and I think it may be more helpful for me as well since the sturdiness does provide better support for my back too, I am not leaning to one side or another as much.

The velvet cover is removable and can be machine washed, even with the non-slip bumps silicone-like fabric at the bottom. But it may be better to air dry or low tumble dry just in case. I guess my only “would be nice to have” with this donut pillow seat is the size since I do tend to adjust my sitting position constantly :).

Maybe an inch wider all around would be great for people like me but not a big deal. Other than that, this is my go-to seat cushion from now on. Easy to carry when traveling as well. Should have gotten this a lot sooner :).

Doesn’t help at all. My tailbone is swollen from sitting wrong. I’m using this on my couch and it just deflates when I sit on it. I had a gel cushion like this 15 years ago that worked great but this memory foam one is useless.

I’m 5ft 8. 5 inches 1553 LBS and this cushion flattens when I sit on it so I’m still putting pressure on my coccyx.

I’m working from home, and spending a lot more hours per day in the same chair than pre-COVID. That lead me to feel the need for an extra cushion in my home office chair, for comfort purposes. I decided I wanted memory foam and a gel layer, not just foam.

This cushion offers both. One concern in selecting a cushion is how it will perform for a larger person. I’ve been using it daily for several weeks now, and am pleased to report that I detect no changes.

So I would say that it can be expected to perform well for persons weighing up to 250 pounds. The major shortcoming, in my opinion, is that it is smaller than the seat of my chair. I would really like it to be about 3 inches longer in the front-to-back dimension.

When it is positioned appropriately to support my hips, it stops about 3 inches before the front edge of the chair seat. Unfortunately all the memory foam and gel style cushions seem to be about the same size.

The design and materials are unique in my experience. For the first time ever, I can get up after two hours of keyboard work and not feel that my spine has been crushed. There is zero pressure on one’s spine, thanks to the design.

The only chair I had for my desk was a metal fold up chair, and I could not afford a fancy desk chair. This made my desk almost unusable, because the card table chairs were uncomfortable, and also sat too low to the desk.

SO glad I purchased these. This cushion set is one of the best purchases I have made. It is so comfortable, even on my dinky fold up chair. Additionally, the cushion adds a few inches to your sitting height (maybe 2 or 3, I’m not completely certain), so now my fold up chair is EXACTLY the right height for my desk! (But do be aware of this, in case your chair is already high enough or too high – it will add a couple inches.

I am VERY happy with this seat cushion! I bought this seat cushion duo for use in my car seat. I do a whole lot of driving most days, and I also have a condition that causes my nerves to become tingly and numb if I am in certain positions for too long, including the position I am in when sitting in my car seat.

I was hoping that this seat cushion would comfortably and effectively change the dynamics of my position so that I wouldn’t loose feeling in my body with all my driving. And it worked!!! I bought this shortly before taking a long driving trip to visit family, and I was so much more comfortable, and had no nerve problems at all! That was back in November 2021, and since then I have continued to have to drive a whole lot, and this cushion has been a life saver for my nerves, keeping them tingle and numbness free! It is very well made, both structurally, and as far as firmness and ergonomics! I would definitely recommend this seat to anyone who needs it, for any kind of firm sitting needs: car seats, office seats, gaming seats, etc.

I like that I do feel like my back feels better when using it. I dislike that it smells awful –like it got wet and began to mold. Also my back began to itch after using it and I have a small insect bite mark.

I think this product may have not been stored in plastic the entire time and possibly insects or bed bugs got in it. I don’t have any bed bugs in my house and my clothes are washed frequently. This is the only new product I’ve been using.

Based on the smell, I have very little doubt that it has been exposed to some elements and then repackaged. May even be used.

I like this item, and have used them in the past, but I wanted 14 X 15 not 14 X 18! this will not work well on all of my chairs. I guess I should have paid more attention to the Assembled Product Dimensions rather than just “size”.

Nothing wrong with the item – just not convinced that this cushion is the best match for the person and problem. It’s not as deep as the car seat which is a problem for a tall person. Haven’t completely decided whether it’s a ‘keeper’ or not.

I ordered this pillow a few years ago when my coccyx had been frequently hurting very badly from sitting on very hard chairs. After trying normal pillows, I found this. After sitting on this cushion for a few weeks at my desk, my situation improved greatly.

After a few months, my coccyx was mostly happy wherever I sat! So it certainly gets the job done. While some may not understand my complaints, I consider them downsides. The handle seems largely unnecessary, and I think it would be greatly improved if the strap could detach and have strong Velcro.

The strap could be used to keep cushion in place for more slippery seats. This seems like it could be an inexpensive improvement. And while it’s really great that cover has a zipper and can be washed, in time, the quality of fabric will go down.

The fabric piles. Also, I wish that the cover came in other colors. Being crafty, I might make another, but it’s an annoyance. It doesn’t look nice enough that I want to keep it out. This is the best investment I have ever made, especially for the price. I got this cushion because of a pinched nerve due to my pregnancy that made it extremely uncomfortable when sitting. This has helped greatly.

No longer was there pain or going numb when it came to sitting. It even helped after pregnancy, to be able to drive. Even when or if you have to drive and tore during delivery and no driving is one of your restrictions, but you have to take baby to doctor or hospital this cushion is a life savor.

This isn’t memory memory foam just cheap junk. When you sit in memory foam you should slowly sink and mold to your bodies curves relieving pressure. Bought this product to replace one I have had for several years that was worn out.

When I set in the Carex the cushion just flattened out giving no support or pressure relief. My wife is petite so I let her try it at work and she said it did the same thing to her. It will be returned to Walmart.

I don’t know why they would let fraudulent junk be sold as memory foam.

I had adominal surgery so I was unable to do my back exercises and it started to act up and I was also getting number in my rear end from sitting all day as I work at a desk and had to keep re-situating myself and it was causing pain in my abdoment.

I had tried pillows, blankets and towel and even a foam cushion but that was not working and I had to get up no less than every hour and walk around for a few minutes and by the end of the day it was more like every 30 minutes.

The foam cushion I was using was only 2 inches thick but it totally compressed but this is thick enough and I think the gel top also seems to add more support as it does not sink as low and leaves a cushion underneath.

Since I have been using it I can do my normal times I get up and move around and I do not get numb anymore so I am not constantly shifting around and inflaming my adomen. Once I got really involved in work and did not take a break or get up for almost 4 hours and I noticed I was getting numb but if I take my normal breaks it seems to be working great.

This product has a few nice features and I hope the manufacturer will pay attention to this review and fix and otherwise good product. Cons:The memory foam used in this product is not dense enough to be used as a cushion.

It collapses from 3″ to 1/4″ when sitting. I used to design cushions using memory foam and just throwing in generic stuff won’t work. For simplicity there are 3 main grades of memory foam. usually the pink color is denser than the ***.

layer 1 – to start, there needs to be a somewhat solid layer of dense foam that does not squash ***. layer 2 – next there should be a layer of highly dense memory foamlayer 3 last – on top should be a squooshy soft light density memory foam – this is what is used for the entire product here.

The contours on the foam are nicely positioned – but practically useless because the foam is so sparse (squooshes to nothing). The only way those contours work is if you’re using highly dense foam. Perhaps the order was in error – I was searching for high density memory foam cushion and this is what i got.

Need to relieve the pressure on my spine, I have to sit for hours at a time; Love the pillow; I have tried many different kinds of foam and memory foam coccyx pillows since year 2000; this is the very best pillow I have found; the cover is a bit slippery, but I can live with it; this pillow and the cover are allowing air flow so I am able to sit on it for hours and I have experienced no problems with it.

I bought this cushion because of pain in the coccyx area. using it on my most used chair really helped. When the coccyx pain finally subsided, I tried putting it on my car seat, since I’m a shortie, and the cushion I was using to give me a little more height wasn’t satisfactory.

We bought a 2015 Toyota Highlander Limited with 13000 miles on it in 2020. It has seats that are the most uncomfortable I’ve ever sat on. But it takes an hour for you to to be really convinced that something this bad was actually built, then your butt falls off.

I’m guessing that’s why it had so few miles on it. We bought two of these seat cushions and my wife loves hers, also helps that she’s 5 foot two and liked the height it gives her. The product is extremely well made and looks good and is a fine bargain.

My problem is I don’t need the increase in height and I hit my head on the roof of the car when using the cushion in the passengers seat. That’s the only thing wrong with it and it’s obviously not the fault of the manufacturer.

I read many reviews while looking for a pillow for my office chair. I had my doubts, but the positive reviews made me choose this product. I must say, that I noticed a difference in my pain levels immediately.

I was scared that it would go flat after 8 hours of daily use, but it is great. I have had two failed lower back surgeries so I am in pain while sitting, standing, lying down, blinking. you get the idea.

LOL. This cushion helps me get through the workday in less pain and I am more aware of my posture. I would’ve given it 5 stars, but I’ve only had it about a week. Who knows how I will think about it in a month or so.

I bought this cushion because my job requires me to sit for extended periods of time in front of the computer, and I have started to develop pressure sores as a result of sitting for so long. I’ve also started moving around more (such as standing up to work at the bar counter) but I need some relief for when I do have to sit.

This cushion has helped relieve the pressure from the chair. I can feel the gel inside helping to resdistribute my weight. I bought the 18×16” size because it fits into a number of chairs around the house.

It has a handle for carrying, but because of the gel, it’s fairly heavy, so I don’t think it’s ideal if you’re looking for something very portable. I see the thickness of the cushion as a plus, because that’s part of what makes it so comfortable.

However I would keep in mind that the cushion height also raises you up in your chair. I put my laptop on a thick book to make it the right height and keep me from slumping down to see it.

Unfortunately my cheap wheelchair seat is fabric slung across an open space above the supports. As a result the cushion began to fold in to the center. Looking at the picture that came with your cushion, I see that the wheelchair seat was rigid and went straight across.

Wheelchair users should keep this in mind when considering a purchase. I am going to get a new wheelchair and consign the one I have to garbage pickup. Once I have a new one I will happily use my cushion from Vive.

I’ve bought quite a few cushions and this is the first one that gave me some relief. It didn’t cure my problems but at least I can get on a plane and fly somewhere without crying in pain still can’t sit for long times but I can go places now.

This will work well if your specific problem is at the coccyx, I would say. This pillow is well made and should last a long time. Washable slip cover (which wasn’t advertised) is good.

I have not discovered any reason to not like it, nor have I discovered any cons yet. It is supportive and comfortable. My butt is actually missing it now. I have been sitting on my usual padded desk Chair, without it, and I realize how much It really helps.

I might need an additional one for other chairs. I am not a “Full Time Wheel Chair User,” so I have had it on my chair, at the dining table to test out how it feels “Full Time. ” I dislocate easily, have spinal injuries, neck injuries and a smashed tail bone.

I really needed something. It fits perfectly on my wheel chair. I am going to make a nice cover for mine, because the top part is a bit “Rubbery Feeling,” and I want something pretty. It is easy to wipe off! Not sure if it is water resistant; but it feels like it could be.

The bottom of the cushion does Grip the seat of the wheel chair, and It does have a sturdy piece of webbing to help secure it to the chair. It did take a bit of pressure off my spine. I can feel it now.

I’ve tried this cushion for about a week in my office chair, sitting for at least 7-8 hours a day. I’m happy to report that the cushion does not yet show wear and tear or seem noticeably flatter from this extreme use.

My lower back feels much better than it normally does after sitting for extended periods everyday, and I find that the cushion provides an extreme amount of support that I am not used to from trying other cushions.

I caretake my 92 yr old father who is becoming wheelchair bound. We’ve used a wheelchair for some trips and doctor appointments for awhile now with a gel cushion that was given to us. While it’s served him well, it’s starting to show signs of wear and tear so I was glad to acquire this cushion to replace it.

The last cushion was about 4″ thick. this one is about 3″. That’s a bonus for my father who has shorter legs so he will be able to get his feet on the ground easier to paddle along on his own. Personally I’d say this is the same firmness as his other cushion.

the difference is that when I tested it out, I felt that after I sat, I slowly “sank” into the cushion more. meaning that while it’s firm, it’s distributing the pressure better. I also like the strap that holds the cushion so it doesn’t slip off the wheelchair.

It comes with an easy-to-clean cover which is useful as my father is also dealing with urinary incontinence so we have some days where the wet leaks through the pull-ups. All in all a nice improvement from his old, worn out cushion.

The seat padding on my office chair went flat so I was looking for something to make it comfortable again. The styling and comfort is pretty nice, but the underside doesn’t have any rubber. It is a bit small for me.

On regular padded or flat chairs, I can feel where this cushion tapers & stops.

Pretty comfortable. It moves around a lot if there’s extra room on your chair though. My chair is a bit wider than the pad, and I have to be pretty careful it’s in the center when I sit. It isn’t very comfortable if it goes crooked.

It has relieved a lot of the pain in my tailbone though.

This cushion is hard as a rock; feels okay when just sort of pinch it together with 2 fingers, but sitting on it is a whole different thing. It not for someone with a skinny butt like mine.

Very sturdy foam cushion. Comfortable yet first sink under your weight. I bought 2! Upstairs office use and downstairs for watching tv.
