A crochet hook for beginners is a crochet hook that is specifically designed for people who are new to crocheting. These hooks are usually smaller and easier to handle than regular crochet hooks, and they often have larger eyes so that the yarn is less likely to slip off.

I’ve recently come back to crochet. for years I was strictly a knitter but after finding a baby blanket pattern where you begin in the middle and work outward, I was “hooked again”. I was crocheting so much my fingers were getting numb.
I tried another brand of ergonomic hook purely because I could find it at a local store (35 miles away). When we had to travel to Duluth MN (125 miles away) for another errand we stopped at Michael’s which is where found the first Prym hook, it was the charm.
When we finally got back to the civilization of the Atlanta Ga area I made it a point to buy several other sizes. They are wonderful. light, comfortable, easy to hold and manipulate ( I roll the hook while making stitches) plus they’re easier to keep track of.
the skinny metal or wood hooks get lost way to quickly. Thank you for carrying these hooks. They are wonderful.
I have carpal tunnel and crocheting had become very difficult in the last couple years. I’ve always used the metal hooks with the comfort grips until I had to get a plastic one when that was all I could find.
It was a complete game changer. These hooks glide through the yarn so much better and the shape of these hooks cause so much less strain on my hands. I can crochet all day long again. I suppose these hooks might be more fragile than the metal ones but I’ve been using mine nonstop and they are still going strong.
I highly recommend giving these a try if you have problems with your hands. I love them and if they do break I will just buy them again!.
I have clover hooks and I have sally bates hooks and honestly this hook has been my favorite. It’s honestly helped me to be faster with crocheting, I’m getting a much more consistent tension and a really nice glide.
I actually purchased my first one after watching a hook review video on YouTube and I couldn’t be happier. It’s good at maintaining the proper yarn tension it grabs it just enough. I can see if you’re a tight stitcher where the struggle with these can be.
I’ve tried plastic hooks before and I was certainly concerned when it came to this hook but honestly it’s been a dream. It’s very smooth with just the right amount of yarn grip the ergonomic handle has helped with my hand cramping way more then the ones I have from Susan bates and clover.
I feel like it’s good to have a variety of brands though because different hooks work better for different projects. And not every hook is going to work for every person.
Product Description Aluminum Susan Bates in-line hook head for uniform stitches and reduced wrist strain. This crochet hook has a velvety smooth ergonomic handle. This package contains one 5. 5 inch long crochet hook.
Comes in a variety of sizes; Each sold separately.
I bought this in store and I really like the grip it has and the weight of the hook is great. It definitely doesn’t feel extremely cheap and the grip is smooth, cool material. However, I personally don’t like the very tip of the hook because my yarn just doesn’t feel smooth when I pull it over.
Also, there are several chips and scratches at the top, one of which is a very long noticeable scratch along the neck leading up to the hook, which makes a very scratchy feeling whenever my yarn goes over it.
Hopefully I can return it and get a different one, because this seems like a great product for a great price.
I can’t believe how much I love this hook, very long but I love how it crochets. I have tried every hook out there, really, tulip and clover being my favs but now this one is my go to hook. I did find my hand sliding down hooks, unintentionally, so the long handle is great.
My issue is the quality, I had to return over 2 of these due to the hook snagging yarn, feeling the metal was sharp at the hook and tiny ridges catching the yarn. Their quality is terrible, I found this on a lot of hooks at the store so be careful, make sure it’s smooth metal.
Feel before you buy. Never had this with bates before, they need to improve their production quality. Curious if anyone else had this issue. Overall buy at least one to try, can’t beat the price at around 2-3$!.

Doris Chan says it best: The biggest advantage of the ETIMO hook is the elastomeric comfort grip. It is revolutionary supremely comfortable functional and durable. It has a soft smooth cushy feel and fits perfectly in my hand.
She never wants to be without hers. Plus Etimo hooks are made from durable superior quality aluminum with a polished finish that does not flake or chip. Even better, the handle’s length and depth of the hook itself make stitching easier too.
The result is a crocheter’s dream that allows her to stitch longer with more accuracy and in greater comfort.
I bought this hook a month ago on a whim at Joanne’s. I had been crocheting so much that I was experiencing a lot of hand fatigue. I had only been using steel hooks I purchased locally and was curious if a cushioned handle would help.
What a difference this hook made on my actual crocheting! I was so surprised at how the actual hook improved my entire technique not just due to the comfortable handle, but the bowl and design of the overall hook had made a world of difference on my overall stitches! I’m shocked and thrilled with my purchase.
The price was reasonable for the quality of the hook as well.
For those Who Prefer the Weight of a Metal Crochet Hook For those who like Clover hooks, but do NOT like the light weight plastic of their size K hook, the Tulip size-K hook is the solution. It has a similar easy-glide of the yarn comparable to Clover hooks.
The down side is that they are nearly non-existent in stores. Hard to even find via online sources and if found; they are highly-overpriced. On top of the high price, shipping and handling is an issue for something that can be sent in a padded envelope.
The hook set is the perfect addition to your crochet hook collection. These hooks helps reduce wrist motion and help maintain a consistent gauge. The hooks boast velvety smooth aluminum surface in bright colors.
Hooks measure 5. 5″ long. Hook set includes: F-5 (3. 75 mm) in silver, G-6 (4. 0 mm) in purple, H-8 (5. 0 mm) in blue, I-9 (5. 5 mm) in red, J-10 (6. 0 mm) gold, K-10. 5 (6. 5 mm) in green.
Out of all the brands out there, Susan Bates hooks are my go to. Everyone has a preference but I believe these are great for beginners because it helps keep the yarn in place while working on your project.
I also like that all the hooks are different colors and labeled clearly. Very durable, super affordable and work great. I have completely switched over to only using Susan Bates hooks love how well they work.
Pictured are a few things I’ve recently made with my Susan Bates Hooks.
It seems most other brands follow the same mold as Boyes rounded, blunt hooks. I cant stand using those types because I tend to crochet tight vs loose, and rounded tips dont work well with my tighter stitches.
Thats why Susan Bates is my preference. Susan Bates hooks have a pointed tip which is extremely helpful when crocheting into my tight stitches. It doesnt fish around my stitches like the rounded tip hooks do.
With Susan Bates pointed tip hooks, Im able to get into my stitches without the hook sliding around on my work. These hooks are very precise. The streamlined throat design helps by directing the yarn exactly where it needs to go (directly to the tip) with no effort on my part.
Giving the flow of my work consistency. In other words, Im able to keep crocheting at my speed, because theres no dragging of the yarn across the hook like Ive experienced with other brands.
Designed for comfort, Silvalume crochet hook features an exclusive in – line crochet hook, which helps reduce wrist motion and helps you maintain a consistent gauge. The special anodizing process etches away surface impurities, leaving behind a velvety smooth aluminum surface.
Each size hook comes in a different color for easy identification. Available in multiple sizesLightweight 100% Aluminum Take 40% off one item. Holiday & Christmas fabric, home decor, yarn, and more.
I usually have a horrifying number of crochet projects going on at once, so I tend to need several hooks of the same size. I was drawn to these hooks available in accessible open stock format. I like this kind because the notch at the “neck” of the hook is inclined to make it easier to grab and hold yarn.
It did stain my hands like many other people experienced though. I crocheted for about an hour and a bit later, washing my hands, I noticed one was rather. blue. I washed and scrubbed and the residual dye faded, but didn’t leave my skin until the next day–to be fair, this did happen at night so I don’t know how long it’d really take.
Either way, it’s not something I want to be happening whenever I crochet. I’m going to see if there’s a way to either wash off the residue, or seal it so that the coating doesn’t soak off. I may even paint over it with a very thin acrylic paint.
I’ve crocheted with Susan Bates hooks before with no issues, so I think it’s just this particular line, and I hope they fix the issue.
This hook is excellent! No matter what yarn I use, it doesn’t get stuck because it passes through the stitches easily. It has a smooth handle that feels great in my hand and doesn’t cause any pain! The hook is great quality, not a single dent or chip in it despite the many times i’ve dropped it.
I bought some poor quality yarn and every crochet I used kept tearing it apart, but this Susan Bates hook didn’t! It is small and smooth enough to allow for easy and unproblematic crocheting!.
I can highly recommend Susan Bates crochet hooks. I have all the sizes that Michaels carries and they all are made well. The aluminum ones are long enough to be easy to hold and the hooks are smooth and slide well when using yarn or string.
Susan Bates makes the usual metal hooks as well as some that have wider, cushioned handles for those of use with arthritis who may need an easier to hold hook that allows for longer crocheting time without fatigue or pain.
The Pony Classic range is a staple part of many crocheters kit. With ranges made from highly polished, anodized aluminium, as well as the highest quality plastics, all are designed with comfortable handling and smoothness in mind.
I have purchased Pony crochet hooks previously but did not have a size 1. 5 mm hook in my collection. I needed this size for a project: a book mark which I made using a 100% silk, 1-ply yarn, in a shade of ivory.
The yarn is very fine and is by far the finest yarn I have ever used for crochet. Both the hook and I coped well with this yarn and the bookmark has been much admired. I have also experimented by doubling up the silk yarn, and using the same hook, to make another, slightly larger, bookmark which also turned out very well.
The Pony range of crochet hooks is very keenly priced and although it is in some ways a budget range, the quality is good and the hooks give excellent stitch definition. In my opinion, Pony hooks are suitable for both beginners and those who are more experienced at crochet.
I would recommend these hooks wholeheartedly. Because they are so keenly priced they are perfect for learners who may not wish to splash out on more expensive accessories when first trying out a new craft such as crochet.
I find the hooks are easy and comfortable to hold and will buy again if I need other size hooks.
We needed this lovely tool to do up the buttons on a wedding dress. It eliminated the risk of greasy fingers and was a quick and easy exercise to allow the bride to concentrate on her special day. It also came in very useful when undoing the dress.
There were many giggles whilst the groom turned his hand to it. Phew!.
Was happy to find this in store while visiting family as I’d left my usual 6mm hook behind and wanted to start a new project straight away! A little longer than ones I’ve used before but its very comfortbale to hold and at a great price too :).
All I needed was another crochet needle as I love making various crochet items. It’s a simple tool, which gives great results. You always have what I need in stock. Your staff are always professional and friendly (smiling).
It’s a joy to shop in Hobby craft. Thank you for your brilliant service. I purchased the needle in Newbury.
Each Silvalume product undergoes a special anodizing process, which etches away all surface impurities, resulting in a velvet-smooth finish and a color that is pleasing to the eye. Once anodized, each Silvalume Crochet Hook is polished for added smoothness.
I am using this hook in size H8/5. 00MM to crochet an afghan. When I started I noticed my hands had blue marks on them, like colored marker and I thought it was the yarn staining my fingers. I looked closer and it was actually paint coming off the hook and onto me.
So far it doesn’t look like it’s stained any yarn so I’m still using it but it is also very uncomfortable to hold for longer crochet sessions, which is frustrating. I have tried holding it in several different styles but it always rubs.
This happened from the very first time I used it, so I don’t think it can be attributed to normal wear and tear. I am surprised because I have used Susan Bates lace hooks before with no problems. Aside from these issues, the bright color stands apart from my many other hooks and needles (and clutter) so it is always easy to find.
It also catches the yarn easily and it great for tucking in ends. The tip is pointed enough that it pushes through stitches easily without being sharp, and it never splits the yarn.
I have used this brand since I was a teenager. I am over 60. This has always been my go to brand. I have never had any problems with them. I like the different colors. The yarn glides oner the hooks easily.
I do a lot of crocheting that requires a bigger hook than most. I love my L 11/8. 00 mm Silvalume crochet hook. It darts so smooth and quick in and out of yarn, making it easier to finish my project quickly.
And it’s so easy to hold. Comfortable. You won’t be sorry if you purchase one. Go ahead and purchase two or three. !!!!.
This crochet hook pack comes with all the hooks you would ever need! Each pack comes with: Colored Aluminum Hooks Sizes: 2. 0mm (B/1), 2. 5mm (C/2), 3. 0mm (D/3), 3. 5mm (E/4), 4. 0mm (G/6), 4. 5mm(7), (H/8) 5.
What makes these crochet hooks really special to me is that I found them at a small business, and even more exciting, for me it is a LOCAL small business. Sure, I could go to a mega craft store in a mall or order on Amazon, but I prefer to spend my money as locally as I can.
I bought this for my aunt and she was so excited about all the different sizes of hooks, she used several happy expletives. Maybe she’ll make me something with one of them. but even if she doesn’t it was fun to see how happy she was.
This is a great set with a wide variety of crochet hook sizes in a convenient storage case. Gone are the days I spend hours looking for the hook I need because I now have them in one convenient location.

These finely carved hooks are a great addition for crocheting fine yarns. Lightweight, easy to hold. No thumb pad, but I dont notice not having it. I like them so much I purchased all the sizes. Too pretty to hide, I keep mine chair-side in a wooden pencil holder.
My visitors always comment on how unique they look.
These wooden hooks have just the right amount of drag. The fact that these are made of wood also make them very easy to grip. In other words your hand doesn’t get tired as easily. Besides, let’s face it they look like Harry Potter wands.
These crochet hooks are the best I’ve ever used. They’re lightweight, long so the end of the hook doesn’t jab you in the hand, easy to use, and they’re beautiful. The price is higher than other crochet hooks but well worth it.
Pony Easy Grip are great value range of crochet hooks with colour-coded handles and ridges for a better grip and happy hands. These colourful crochet hooks enable you to loosen your grip and so prevent wrist and hand strain.
With steel and aluminium ranges available, there is also a specialist flat finger variation.
This is a well made hook, so it is not a quality issue, but it doesn’t suit me. The chunky handle is certainly comfy to hold, but I found the shaft too short so I was bumping up on it when drawing yarn through.
I also felt the hook was a bit more tacky than glidey, making it a bit more work to push through a loop. Won’t be getting any more.
So comfy to use, the handle is soft but not squishy. I really like the flat section. Means I can hold the crochet hook with a more relaxed hand and don’t get sore fingers or an achy wrist. I definitely prefer these for a short or long crocheting session and have bought them in all the sizes available.
The colours make it easy to find the size I want in my hook box. The writing is tiny but I used a ball point to write the number on larger and it’s stayed on for 3 weeks, no fading. Just wish they did a set so you could buy them all at once from 2.
I have not used the padded handled before and was dubious that it would be just another gimmick as the plastic appeared solid. It was actually comfortable to use and hold. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased.
I found that I did not hold the hook as tightly which was even better for the comfort of my hands.

Furls also has the absolute best customer service i’ve ever experienced – i had a hook i bought secondhand break while in use and Furls went WAY above and beyond to take care of it for me despite the fact that i didn’t even buy the hook directly from them!! 100% worth the money!.
The famous Addi Comfort Grip hook! Features color-coded handles for ease of organization. Perfect for those seeking an ergonomic hook! 6 inches long. The famous Addi Comfort Grip Hook features color-coded handles for ease of organization.
This hook is amazing. Most wooden hooks cause the yarn to snag on the throat, but this one is smooth. The point is just rounded enough to not split the yarn. It is very fun and easy to use. I highly recommend this brand if you are looking for hooks 20mm or larger.
ChiaoGoo in-line all-bamboo,natural color crochet hooks have a Chinese blessing as well as the size permanently laser marked on each hook. They have a perfectly tapered hook with a precisely placed hold for comfort in your hand.
This is a great crochet hook. It is nice and light, but strong, and very comfortable to use. It is good value for money and I highly recommend Chiaogoo bamboo crochet hooks and wouldnt hesitate to buy other sizes to add to my collection.

The quality of the crochet hook is rather decent, although the advertisement is poor. Because of the picture, I assumed I was purchasing not one crochet hook, but rather a pack with a variety of sizes, hence the reason I paid 8 dollars.
Now I am no cheapskate but I did think I was purchasing a pack for an amazing price, but that was an incorrect thought. I will not be returning the crochet hook, but I do think the advertisement should be corrected into showing exactly what the customer will be receiving.
I use this for rug hooking as apprised to crochet. The cushion handle is comfortable and it is MUCH more economical than a hook for rug hooking. The aluminum will not allow it to stick to a magnet for hooking rug but that’s okay.
Gorgeous crochet hook at a really good price! The Easy Touch crochet hooks are made with a soft ergonomic grip in each of its characteristic colors and you can crochet with them for several hours without getting sore hands.
The hooks are made from aluminum and are thus nickel-free. The more you crochet with these crochet hooks, the more you will love them :)An absolute must-have for a real crochet enthusiast! The crochet hooks have been tested and approved safe for content of nickel and harmful substances.
TranslateShow in original languageGanz tolle Häkelnadeln!

I have started knitting so I needed a good value in case it’s one off activity. The thicker crochet hooks can be pulled out of the rubber handle if crocheting is tight. The snipers are sharp and sturdy.
Counting rings suits to size 6 down and some of its numbers got scratched off. The box is useful but cannot accommodate everything. The rings and safety pins haven’t broken yet and are useful. In overall, I’m quite happy with purchase.
There are a few things to keep in mind when you are learning how to crochet. The first is that you need to find the right type of crochet hook for your project. The second is that you need to be aware of the different types of stitches.
The third is that you need to be able to finish your project.
The best type of crochet hook for beginners is a plastic or metal hook. These hooks are easy to hold and easy to use. They are also less likely to break than wooden hooks.
The most common type of stitch is the single crochet stitch. This stitch is made by inserting the hook into the next stitch, yarn over the hook, and then pull through the loop on the hook.
To finish your project, you will need to cut the yarn and pull through the loop on the hook. Then, you can weave in the ends or make a fringe.
