I bought this frosting to try for the first time and was extremely disappointed. I love the concept of a food product that is vegan, non-GMO, gluten free and made with coconut oil. However, the consistency of this frosting, in my opinion, was waxy and my container had large globules of poorly mixed fat showing in every teaspoonful I tried.
I couldn’t taste any chocolate at all, just grainy wax. I read other very favorable reviews, but I had to speak up and share my view of the product. I know it isn’t as healthy, but I will return to using the national brand frostings for taste and texture.
Do not refrigerate this product. Really the only complaints I’ve read about this product that are bad are based around it being hard. Well it is made with coconut oil as a main ingredient. Have you ever put coconut oil in the fridge? Haha that’s your answer.
I kept it on the shelf and consumed within listed suggested time and it worked perfect! I got the cream cheese frosting from them. The flavor was great, not too sweet which makes sense because of the ingredients and listed sugars in the nutritional facts but honestly for me it worked great.
Just use a little bit of common sense and you’ll have a great experience :).
We were so excited to try this out with the kids for their Saint Valentine’s Day cookie decorating party. We were completely disappointed. It has the consistency of crisco or candle wax. It is basically flavorless except for the slightest whispered aftertaste of something sweet, but not enough to reflect the fact that it’s supposed to be identified as frosting.
It had the same consistency flavor as if we had coated the cookies in chapstick. Epic fail. I chose to give them 2 stars one for being organic 1 for being vegan. I know it’s hard to make it with both of those specifications, but they really need to dial this product back to the research development phase of production.

I just frosted our Christmas breakfast danish with this cream cheese frosting. We’ve bought this brand several times over the years, but something is very wrong with this one. The canister says “great new taste” but it’s awful with a chemical/plastic like flavor and leaves a horrible after taste.
This doesn’t taste like any frosting I’ve ever had and definitely doesn’t taste like cream cheese. It’s not expired. Today is 12/24/2021 and the expiration date on the canister says Jan 25 2022. The batch code is 13:43 654 Something either went wrong at the factory or this “great new taste” is just a horrible new formula.
It’s too late to make a new danish, so no Christmas breakfast for us tomorrow. I’m so incredibly disappointed.
Your new formulation is really terrible and tastes as though someone spilled maraschino cherry juice in it. I bought more than one batch/can just in case the first one I got was spoiled or an anomaly.
I am known as the Cake Lady in several circles and my recipes have long been in demand. I have happily used and recommended your Duncan Hines “Classic Chocolate” for many, many years. (milk & dark chocolate as well on occasion) Your previous chocolate frostings were great tasting, easy, affordable and the only premade frostings I used.
Now, I tell everyone to make frosting from scratch or try another brand. My friends and I are truly missing your Classic Chocolate.
I have been buying Duncan Hines cream cheese frosting for ages and have always loved it. This time I didn’t realize until I opened it up at home that the can says “new great taste”. I can tell you one thing, the “new great taste”, is your new epic fail.
I fail to understand why companies that have awesome products that customers love and are loyal to change the recipes up and make them utterly inedible. Why mess with a good thing? 0/10 recommend this product.
I’d rather lick my bathroom floor than eat this absolutely vile “frosting”. Come on Duncan Hines, DO BETTER.
A cake without frosting is not really a cake, and a cake iced with this frosting is mouth wateringly delicious. This frosting in white is perfect for dyeing fun colors and putting on lots of different baking goods like pumpkin bars and cookies.
Finish your baked goods off strong with this tasty, edible decoration.
Do NOT buy this product. My daughters birthday was ruined by the mess this stuff made. Literally just slid off the cake in a puddle. I was concerned when I began to frost the cooled cake layers as the frosting was very thin and drippy coming out of the container.
I have used the chocolate frostings on vanilla cakes with no problem but that was Pilsbury brand. This was a first time using vanilla frosting on a chocolate cake and it will be my last. We placed the cake in the refrigerator over night to help it set up.
Took it out and placed it on the table for the party and it looked okay so put the cover back on. By the time we were ready for cake and I removed the cover it was a total mess. This was inside a house, air conditioned to 74 degrees.
I had to run to the grocery store and spend extra money to buy expensive cup cakes for her party. I wish I could upload a photo for everyone to see as it was heartbreaking. I have used box mixes for years, all brands, and never had this happen.
First time using vanilla icing and it was a total disaster.
I have been hungry for a homemade carrot cake like my mom made, when I was growing up. It had to be two layer with rich cream cheese between layers and all over the outside. I should have known that if you make a homemade cake youd better make homemade frosting to satisfy that craving.
This frosting is good, dont get me wrong. Very creamy and easy to spread. I used 2 cans to get it thick all over. The flavor is good but the taste of cream cheese is too weak for a robust flavored cake.
Next time if not making it from scratch, I will combine it with real cream cheese to get the flavor Im looking for. I know that it will make a crust on the frosting instead of it staying as it is when you open the can but it also keeps the frosting from coming off on the press n seal I cover it with.
Let me begin by admitting to be a bit of a home baker and high end bakery snob. I decided I was too lazy to make my own frosting and picked this up at the local grocery. It is literally the worst store bought frosting I can remember buying.
Even my boyfriend who has questionable tasting ability said it was terrible. We both agreed that it has no cream cheese flavor; indeed it has practically no flavor at all. It is simply sweet, oily cream for you to try to spread on your cake.
And have fun with that, because of it’s artificial texture it’s pulling up all the crumbs as you spread it about. I am dumbfounded how a frosting can have no flavor whatsoever. Save your red velvet cake while you can and keep this FAR away from it.
I remember fluffy white made from a mix. It was airy and very fluffy, tasted great! I was excited to find it in a container, I thought use it on the next birthday cake I baked. I opened the container and took a look, no fluff.
I stirred as directed, still not fluffy. I iced the (DH)Devil’s Food cake with some difficulty (thank you for adding 15% more) it was not pretty. I don’t know if this icing works as a prepared item. Maybe this icing does not need the additives, more real ingredients.

December Birthday’s cake. It is my youngest son birthday. He is not in this country yet. So we make him a birthday cake. He loves Godzilla and Vanilla. He is little different then the rest of us. Most of time he chooses vanilla than chocolate.
So my husband made a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. We used Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Vanilla Frosting. The vanilla flavored so sweet. But the frosting not too sweet. Which is i like it. I don’t need my creamy frosting too sweet.
And it is also easy to apply on. Not too thick and not too watery. And tasty for something not chocolate.
I love their chocolate frosting. It tastes so good. Authentic taste of chocolate. Won’t regret it. Love to buy again and again. So smooth texture. Just see the details at the back before using it. My whole family likes it.
Bought a 10oz container of chocolate fudge frosting and it really was a lot for me. I made 24 cupcakes and it was a perfect amount plus I have still have frosting leftover. At first I tried to just frost cupcakes straight out of the container which was very difficult.
I have an attention span of a nat and there no way I was going to finish frosting all of these cupcakes. Instead I put a few large tablespoons of frosting into a dish and carefully melted in the microwave.
It was brilliant because I was able to just dipped all the cupcakes into the melted frosting and it looked so pretty because the frosting had such a nice sheen to it now my family think that I can bake.
Rich and smooth, this mouth-watering cream cheese icing is delicious for your red velvet cake and makes the perfect carrot cake frosting. Ready to spread Each tub contains enough icing to cover and fill an 8 inch cake (serves 12) or cover up to 27 cupcakes.
Store in a cool, dry place before opening. Once opened seal and refrigerate any remaining icing for up to 30 days for future creations!.
Extremely tasteful icing. Very sweet and creamy, has a little sugary crunch ad you bite into it. Goes fantastically well with a hone made carrot cake. Store in fridge but allow time for it to reach room temperature before spreading.
Good quantity in tub, will get a couple of cakes out of it. I bought this product as part of a promotion.
I ordered this for my daughters birthday cake as was short on time and reviews looked good. I’m not sure if I got a bad batch, but both tubs I used were absolutely horrible! the consistency was good but the taste was vile, can only describe it as ‘chemically’ I tried to disguise the flavour with extra icing sugar and vanilla but that did nothing to take away the awful taste; ultimately it ended up ruining the birthday cake, very disappointed….
Love the taste and texture! Tastes like fudge. So easy to pipe and doesn’t run or go too hard. Lovely chocolatey colour. Would love to buy a bigger tub! Have bought lots of times and will definately be buying more in future.
Tried other brands but always come back to this one. Yummy!.

This cake has been the birthday cake in my family for 50 years! We called it Lemon Jello Cake because two small bags of lemon jello were added after the eggs, oil and water. The frosting was a glaze of powdered sugar and real lemon juice mixed well.
The cake cooled and holes were pokes with a fork allowing the glaze to seep deep into the whole cake. One day later, the cake was perfect and lasted a week at least, getting better with age. I’ve made this cake three times in the last two months and it’s turned out terrible.
At first I thought the oil had gone bad, or I had an old box of mix. I purchased all fresh ingredients for another try, but it’s still a HUGE disappointment. Too oily, weird texture, even the smell is wrong.
Seeing all the comments below makes me feel that I was correct in thinking your company change a product that didn’t need changing. Was it for cost, availability of ingredients, or just because? I see you continue to apologize for the customers dissatisfaction and are letting your team know about the comments, but I think your company can do more.
Please return the original recipe to your loyal customers. Thank you.
All in all this is a good quick through together mix. For me nothing beats made from scratch cake but I wanted to try this. I bought jumbo cupcake pans to make these. I love the size of them. The mix made 12 jumbos.
I had a problem with my cupcakes doming which could be that 350 was to high for my induction oven and/or the new pans. That’s on me to figure out not Duncan Hines. Also, I had a problem with some of the brown sugar and butter mixture not all transferring/sticking to the cupcakes when turning them out.
I did allow the first pan sit for 5 minutes, the second for 10 minutes. Same thing happened with second pan. Could be that I buttered my pans instead of spraying them. Maybe too much butter. Again that’s on me.
Could be because butter was also used with the brown sugar mixture. Just stating so others may want to keep that in mind and stick with the spray as recommended. I baked them for 23 minutes at 350. Came out very light and tender.
I would have liked to added pictures but I don’t see the ability to do that.
This cake is absolutely scrumptious and so easy to make! I just followed the directions on the back of the package and mine came out perfect. I usually bake a Krusteaz Blueberry bread or Orange Cranberry bread or a Chiquita Banana bread every week to have in as a breakfast/treat.
This week I decided to try something new. It’s my first experience with Duncan Hines cake mix – and it won’t be my last 🙂 I made the mix in a well buttered Bundt pan and added fresh blueberries. It can out of the pan very easily and is perfectly moist and delicious, with just the right amoutnt of lemon flavor.
I used the Duncan Hines creamy lemon frosting and it was great! I frosted it right when it came out of the oven and was still warm. I know you are not supposed to do that – but in this case it was perfect.
The warm cake melted the frosting a bit so it went on like a glaze. The cake hasn’t even cooled and three pieces are already missing! I highly recommend this cake and the lemon frosting.
This Red Velvet Cake oozes sophistication with its deep, red luscious sponge and a subtle chocolate taste, simply divine with cream cheese icing. Grab your apron and mixing bowl and fire up your oven to 180°C (160°C for fan assisted ovens) / Gas Mark 4.
For cupcakes bake in a fan assisted oven at 160°C. It’s baking time!.
By far the BEST cake mix on the market anywhere. Making the cake is fast, easy and hassle free. Mix it up in five minutes, layer it on to itself in a cake pan, toss it in the oven and you’re done. The taste rivals that of any homemade cake with the bonus of it always turning out perfectly! The cake is delicately light without ever even hinting at being dry.
The baked product lends itself perfectly to being iced without frustration or crumbling. And the bonus is that your home will smell like you’ve been baking delicious treats all day! Definitely a pantry staple in our home for the busy work days when the kids deserve a treat but mama is just too tired to bake from scratch (and truthfully also for all the other times that I need to make a cake – who has the inclination to bake from scratch when this is actually better?).
Great product that is highly recommended for anyone with an oven!.
When I was quite small, I thought that Betty Crocker was my Great Great Grandma. We had a recipe book with her name on it, and boxes of cake stuff in the pantry that helped me to make delicious baked goods.
We referred to the red book all the time. Everything always turned out the way it was supposed to. We all agreed that Betty was the best of the best. Devils Food Cake – the name scared me a little as a wee bairn.
Why would we eat something that the devil made? Or liked? Or endorsed? I’m fairly certain my bum would have had a thonging if I even said the word Devil in my home. Interestingly, on my birthday I could choose any type of the Betty Boxes I wanted! After much whispered conversations with my siblings… I was dared to ask for the “devil cake” and I couldn’t wriggle out of it.
(At the time; my favourite cake was plain vanilla with vanilla icing. ) In any case, I asked for the Devils Food and I got the Devils Food. Dear reader, I have never preferred another flavour ever in my entire existence.
The cake mix always works! I find if my eggs are a little bit bitty, add an extra! Many people don’t like the word moist. It apparently conjured us sleep paralysis demons or something. I don’t have an issue with the word, particularly in describing this delicious box mix.
Look. I’m not trying to sell you a sheep station. I don’t need your last dollar. I just think that Betty makes the best box mixes ever. #bettycrocker.
I don’t normally seek out writing a review but I really wanted to for this. I bake a lot. I’ve made countless cakes for birthdays and other events for my family and for friends on commission. I am not a professional but I do know enough to give an honest experienced review.
This particular cake mix (chocolate fudge) leaves so much to be desired. It bakes fine the texture is okay but the lack of flavor is surprising and quite disappointing. Skip this one and grab a dark chocolate flavor.
I will be rebaking this wedding cake as it is not suitable for the occasion. However, the BC Vanilla flavor is amazing and I can’t recommend it enough!.

I first tasted this at a beer convention, but it is great for kitchen use. I have made both cookies and gummy bears using this. For red velvet cookies use 2Tbsp per pound of sugar cookie dough and frost with royal icing.
I purchased a container of temp-tee cr cheese n found a piece of plastic in it after I bit down on it. It’s not from my container, my container isn’t broken ne where. This plastic was in the cream cheese.
Ide be happy to take a pic of both the plastic n my container if u would like me to.
Breakstone’s Temp Tee cream cheese is soo rich, creamy, smooth light. Grew up having it on my bagels it was my daddy’s favorite cream cheese. I definitely recommend giving it a try. It’s a little pricey but so we worth it.

Target used to have slices of red velvet cake that of a cake that had a layer of fudge and cream cheese icing in the middle between the cake layers. That cake was moist and delicious. That is not this cake.
This cake is dry and tastes of food coloring. I would not recommend.

Perfect for dipping straight from the tub with your favorite crackers, pita chips and veggies or spreading on your bagel. Now available in buffalo flavor.
This stuff is great. Doesn’t have that many calories, and it’s got a good buffalo taste. Just bought one the other day and my wife and teenage son managed to get it gone in two days. It’s perfect stuff and for sure going to be a new regular purchase in this house.
My go to cream cheese to eat on bagels and to use in so many other recipes. It’s a perfect little snack for my diet. Great flavor, a little bit goes a long way and only 50 calories. It’s always on my grocery list!.

I have read that carrageenan causes inflammation of the colon and large intestine, ulcerations, cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea. I don’t eat foods with this ingredient or products that list the ambiguous ingredient “natural ” flavors/preservative.
If it’s a natural ingredient why be afraid to list it? I like this product but won’t be buying until you find a substitute for carrageenan (please don’t list ambiguous ingredients).
This is a solid and well known brand. I gave it 4 stars because the product itself is good but the price can be expensive. I find that other brands are cheaper like temp-tee and taste just as good. I prefer the whipped variety from any brand than the regular style because it is easier to spread, but you get less ounces for the same price that way.
Overall Philadelphia is a good brand regardless of style. It’s an established favorite like Heinz ketchup. You just know the brand has been around and that it is a solid and reliable product.
I expected to hate this. When it comes to everyone else’s fall favs, I totally humbug on all things autumn. I live in Texas where it’s still poolside weather in November and the leaves go from green to gone.
I have to admit, I’m pleasantly thrilled with Philly’s Pumpkin Spice cream cheese spread! It made an icing for a carrot cake that was to die for, is incredible on toast and I can’t wait to use it in a ton of other recipes! While I will remain unswayed from my precious coffee flavored coffee, Philadelphia has convinced me to add a touch of fall into my perpetual summer world.

Red velvet is my favorite kind of cake and this is the easiest way to sate my cravings. This particular red velvet cake is absolutely delicious. The frosting is creamy and sweet, though I’m used to more of a cream cheese frosting.
Oh my Pepperidge Farm has the BEST desserts! Everything they make is delicious, I mean everything! The cakes are always so fresh and yummy! I buy these sometimes just to cute my sweet tooth lol! But seriously I love Pepperidge Farm everything!!!.

I honestly never wanted to try the flavored cream cheeses because they kind of sounded gross but one day my friend made a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel and used strawberry cream cheese. I decided to go out on a limb and try it and ohhhh my god I’m so glad I did.
I could eat this spread with a spoon. The strawberry flavor is the perfect amount. Not too light, not too overpowering, and doesn’t taste like that fake candy strawberry. So delicious.
When it comes to cream cheese, this is the only brand i use believe it or not. Love the taste, the consistency and everything about it. I normally go for the original plain one but always keeps the strawberry one close too because sometime i just want a change.
I never tried other flavors tho aside from the plain and strawberry one. Let me know if you have tried other flavor snd what you think.
Assuming you would like a recipe for cream cheese frosting for red velvet cake:

-4 cups confectioners’ sugar
-1-2 tablespoons milk
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter and vanilla until light and fluffy. Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, beating until smooth. Add enough milk to achieve the desired spreading consistency.
