20 Best Coyote Howler Mouth Call (2023 Updated)

I have shot a lot of this ammunition along with family members and in competition. This is a great range/competition (USPSA minor) ammunition that shoots and does not jam. I have had upside down primers on another brand of competing ammo, but never with the Winchester White box.

Just can’t say enough good about this ammo.

Although we have used Winchester white box for decades as our paper-punching rounds, suddenly we’re having trouble with fail to feed, on both a brand new Springfield 10mm (180 gr FMJ) and a venerable Glock 22, which has never malfunctioned, but now won’t accept the 165 gr FMJ.

Both rounds are flat nosed, and both get partway into the chamber and wedge themselves, halfway up the ramp. I can’t say for certain it’s the ammo, but one brand new and one well-worn in handgun suddenly won’t feed a single magazine without multiple FTF.

We’re looking for alternate manufacturers.

This ammo works great in my Beretta Cougar. I don’t understand most of the 5 Star reviews as they all refer to this as 9MM NATO which it is NOT! 9MM NATO is physically a 9mm, (NOT a. 380) with an overpressure load (by SAMMI standards) and should only be used in modern, robust weapons.

This. 380 ammo is standard loading, reliable, feeds well in my Beretta, and consistently shoots good groups. If you are having issues with your. 380 feeding these rounds I recommend you clean the feed ramp and possibly use a Dremel and some rouge to polish the ramp.

This is great ammo.

I went ahead and got these to see what all the fuss was about. I’ve had them a little over 48 hours and I have yet to get a successful howl out of them. I don’t know if my mouth is an odd shape or what, but they don’t rest in place well, are extremely awkward and make me gag.

The instructional mini DVD that comes with them is TERRIBLE and completely unhelpful unless you already know how to use them. No instruction whatsoever on how to actually get the call to make a sound.

I’m ready to toss them in the fireplace. Can’t call in a coyote if you’re choking on the diaphragm call! With the wide range of easy to use open and closed reed howlers available (that won’t gag you), these are absolutely way more trouble than they’re worth.

Not to mention, for what they are (basically a couple diaphragms, a small piece of metal and some tape), they are way too expensive, even if they did work. I’d ask for my money back, but they’ve already been in my mouth.

If I could give negative 5 stars, I would.

Found these calls hard to use, but mainly because I can’t stand the vibration of in-mouth calls. Also, like most Randy Anderson stuff, the instruction CD is basically an ad stating that you have to buy 15 different calls.

I prefer calls with more of a ‘this is ____ call. This is exactly how you use it’ approach. I don’t need a video of all the other calls you’re selling, I just need to know how to use the one I bought.

I’m surprised by this, because Randy Anderson supposedly was a music teacher – and they usually ‘start with doing A, then once you’re comfortable, move to B, etc. ‘ rather than ‘buy A-Z, and try to use ’em all!” I use a lot of Knight and Hale calls; I’ve found them really easy to use for beginners, and much easier to get a good sound right away.

But, if you have lots of hours to practice I think these are a much more flexible call with lots of variety.

picked these up last week, within a hour i was able to get great sounds out of both calls. needed to trim a little for better fit, but thats why they make em a bit big. took them with me in the woods while scoutin and had them howlin back in 2 of the 5 spots i went.

cant wait for the tourney next weekend hope to put some money back into my pocket. dvd was also very helpful. great buy at a awesome price.

Works great if circumstances are right. Did not work for me for some reason in more open terrain during spring season. Opening day for fall bear in oregon i set it up in a bush in a clearcut in the middle of super thick timber in a national forest.

Used elk calf in distress call since elk sign was all around. After about 40 mins we heard something coming in the brush, soon 2 smaller groups of elk came in and started looking for the calf in distress for several minutes, they flipped the caller over and looked very confused before wandering off but continued calling back to it in the trees.

I slowly turned the volume down a bit at a time every few minutes about an hour after starting the call. Once the volume was almost all the way down a bear popped out of the trees and we got to watch it for about 30 minutes before deciding to take it.

Worked amazing!.

Can’t believe how plasticky these things are. The thing is pure Mickey Mouse. Decoy simply doesn’t work. Low Battery Light never turns off 80$ in batteries later. You gotta have the eyes of an alien from another planet to see this remote.

Made in America! By the cheapest junk from around the world.

Bought this unit to provide hunting opportunities outside of the bow and gun deer seasons. Called in the first coyote on our 4th stand. Unit and basic operating instructions are fine but a detailed video dvd to demonstrate calling sequences and hunting tips for the beginner would be helpful.

I have used this call to hunt yotes for about a month. It is very nice to be able to switch between long range and short range calls with just a mouth piece. Plus the ability to range across age, animal, pitch, distress to howls can be very important to do without relying on batteries.

I’m an avid coyote caller, and call collector with over 60 different mouth calls and a few dozen howlers, and the Primos Lil’dog is one of my preferred calls when I’m howling in coyotes. I bought the Lil’ Dog and the Hot Dog at the same time, and with these 2 calls #3 heads#, I can pitch any coyote vocal I want, at any range.

There are a LOT of Howlers out there that CLAIM that they can run distress sounds, but ultimately, most calls that are a “master of all are a master of none”. Usually if they make good howls, they make poor distress, or if they make good distress sounds, then their howls are poor.

The Lil’ Dog is the exception. If you can play an open reed distress call at all, then you can make the Lil’ Dog sound really good as a distress call, and it’s howls, as mentioned, are as good as anything on the market.

It is easy to use and makes very realistic sounds. I have used several different howlers and this is my favorite. I usually use it in combination with a distress call. I’ve used it to aid me in calling in about 50 coyotes this year.

I own several Cass creek calls, including turkey and varmint calls, so i was already sold on their products. I have not had a chance to put the boar call to use in the field yet, but based on the sounds it produces I would fully expect it to work as effectively as the others.

Volume is a bit low for long range calling, although I would call it adequate. However, the call comes with a speaker jack and I intend to use it with the Cass Creek speaker I already own, which has proven highly effective on turkeys.

I’ve shot these out of my handi rifle for deer and the results were great! Dropped one on a 40 yard shot and one ran maybe 40 yards on an 80 yard shot. They tend to be on the cheaper side of 44mag ammo also.

This is great because my rifle shoots them well. I will have to dust the 44 off as the past few years I’ve been hunting wide open areas and need a caliber with more range.

this deer call is built very well. unfortunately, it scared more deer than it brought. the doe call should be short, its long the deer wheeze sounds like the deer has asthma. the grunt is good but will scare any but the largest bucks because its a very very mature buck imitiation.

ime bucks doent want to go against a larger buck, which this almost certainly is. the product is built strong but the calls need to be revised to get my or my deers attention in a positive way.

Forty yard remote is sporadic at full 40 yards distance, 50 yard would make a substantial improvement. Remote requires more than one attempt to activate Caller at 40 yards. As batteries weaken, signal will likely decrease distance of operation.

Other than this one minor point, the Caller is Great!!!.

Really satisfied with caller. Like better than my other one that cost $200. More compact and easier to carry. Make sure remote is turned in right direction. Volume end toward receiver.

I was amazed that this arrived so quickly; looking forward to adding the FoxJack5. Interestingly, the manual indicates that the unit should be level or above the caller, but at 100yds and w/ 50 ft of elevation above the unit, I worked, flawlessly.

What bothered me is that this unit was clearly used and returned; it was never even reopened nor inspected by Cabelas, which I documented photos – I paid for a new unit and contacted & emailed pics to C.

S. , but have received no response. A a 25-30 year customer, I’m disappointed. The bonus is that the previous “owner” uploaded more than a 100 calls. I know I have a wide variety of predators, but so far, crows are the only critters I have called in.

I’m new to the game and look forward to learning how to get the most out of it.

I bought my Patriot at Cabelas a couple years ago. It’s the buggiest product I own. It has an inconsistent user interface. Some menu options simply don’t work. The mute button sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.

It doesn’t remember the volume setting so every time you do something different the volume has to be readjusted. You can’t do anything quickly. You have to wade through several menus to begin calling even though all you want to do is the same thing you did 15 min ago.

The auxiliary port will turn on but sometimes won’t turn off when you release the button. It has way too many of one type of call (squealing rabbit) and no Bleating fawn. And don’t expect it to work in below freezing temperatures.

Just before it freezes up completely it emits this god awful loud static and drives away every coyote in the county. Other than that it’s a good product.

Upon receipt of the FOXPRO Preditor, I unpacked the electronic CALLER and the REMOTE. The units themselves are well made and intuitive as to battery installation and operation. The directions specify the need to attach the CALLER unit to a PC with a USB cord (Not included in the box).

The cord ends are 1. Normal USB -> PC, and 2. Camera box-type USB end that is attached to the CALLER for animal sound file download and installation to the REMOTE, from which the animal sounds are selected and played.

The installation REQUIRES current JAVA to operate the installer program, which is not native to my MAC. Since Apple doesn’t play with JAVA, a search of the FOXPRO site revealed the issue, described a JAVA installation ‘workaround’ and noted they were “working on it”.

I hacked the JAVA install problem as described, and still the downloaded DLL library sound files refused to install, so the installation program could not find the CALLER, and I gave up and repacked the unit for return after 2 hours of trying to get the ‘workaround’ to function.

The company has had time to come up with a MAC solution, and in the meanwhile has essentially given up on macOS users. I’m profoundly disappointed and will hereafter avoid other FOXPRO products.

this is a good design for both open reed and closed reed in one. makes great rabbit distress sounds and great injured yote sound. the o-ring design is great too. no need for multiple calls hanging around your neck.

and there’s two holes for a lanyard so you don’t lose either piece. the first time i used this was on a yote hunt and called in a bobcat. the only thing with this call is condensation that builds up in cold temps, then gets in the reed, so you have to take it apart and dry it out.

other than that, it’s a good piece and worth the buy.

I purchased this call a few weeks back and got out hunting at my folks place this past weekend. Called in a great big coyote in the first 45 minutes with the jackrabbit distress but missed my shot at 100 yards!!! Went back out in the evening and had a ton of magpies coming in close and then a great big Goshawk landed on a fence post 10 feet from me.

It sat and watched me for about 5 minutes. Amazing!!! Great little call but can freeze up at times.

This call is not very loud. The sound will break down if you blow too hard. Fawn distress sound is good. Disapointed in the Ki-Yi sound. Primos Lil dog does a better job if you’re used to open reed calls.

Also, it stop working when it’s gets wet inside (condensation) after a few calls or if it’s cold. Lohman Circe cotton tail distress call works great and loud.

Have used lots of open reed calls, this one is difficult to use. Very difficult to make high pitch sounds. Though I will say it is very loud which is it’s only upside. Should work good on windy days.

However like Im trying to state, very difficult to get decent rabbit distress sounds out of it.

I own a lot of calls like this one and they are easier to make sound good I’m disappointed sounded better on TV but food looks better on TV also.

These calls are great. The sound that comes out of them is good and different from all my other mouth calls

Amazing call, batteries lasted all day in 10 degree Temps. Last stand, had a fox come running, I shot and missed, he buckled then continued for the call even after the shot. The sound quality is amazing.

One of the best made calls Ive used. Its very clear at all volume levels And has a great assortment of calls. Not to mention the different fox features and the diversity it adds to the call. I have absolutely no complaints and will recommend fox pro.

So we were at our second stand of the day with this bad boy hunting for Coyotes. We had seen some sheep farmers and so talked to them and they said they heard some probably two small hills over, about 2 ish miles walk.

So we walked all the way around and start calling. Did the rabbit for a while and the coyote calls for a hot second. After about 40 mins, my brother and I here some foot prints behind us and some low huffing.

I work for the US Forest Service and have heard my fair share of huffing from animals and my first thought was that there was a bear behind us. Well our hearts kinda dropped as we heard is give a loud deep grunt.

So I slowly set down my. 223 and took off my. 44 mag from my side holster, slowly turned around, to see walking directly in-between my brother and I, straight towards our current coyote howls from this machine, a GIANT, easily 250+ lbs white sheep dog.

He ran straight over to the call, really confused why there were no coyotes, and then came and sat next to me under the juniper tree I was under. So. Moral of the story, have called in a coyote yet, most likely cause it’s not the best of times to do so right now, April, but man does this call work.

We were easily 2 miles away, and though this box doesn’t make the loudest noises, if you can get the echo off hill walls, you are set. Sounds are hyper realistic and anything and everything will come.

5/5 in my book and I am looking forward to finding some coyotes soon with it.

Bought the icotec gc320 unit a little over a month ago and so far its worked great! Have used the call at least a dozen times and called in and shot 6 coyotes so far. Seems to be very durable and compact, fits nicely into my backpack.

The decoy works great and keeps the coyotes attention on it. The sound is clear and is more then loud enough to call anything in within a mile on a calm day. The one thing that I’m not a fan of and I’ve read this a lot is the fact that the remote is super sensitive.

It’s happened a few times where I’ve set up the call and I’m walking back to where I’m gonna sit and some how bumped the remote and the call starts going off before I’m ready! Other then that the call works great.

Says right on the box BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED so be sure to pick up batteries before u get home with it!.

I recently purchased the Icotec GC320. The call seemed to work great at first. The first night I took it out I had a bobcat to come in and give me a shot within 25 minutes. I was pleased with the performance.

A couple days later took it out when the temps dropped into the low 20’s. Thats when I had my first problem with the remote range. I replaced what was should have still been like new batteries with more energizer lithium like the directions said only to have a range of maybe 150 ft.

When the temps are above freezing the call performs excellent. Possible I got the only call that’s afraid of the cold weather but, doubtful. Good Hunting Everyone!!!.

The Dogg Catcher 2 is an upgrade from the original but still has a “recorded” tone to the sounds. In an open area where you can see the coyotes a ways out with binoculars, they will look in the direction of the call, but have a tendency to be quite wary.

At that point I will stop the electric caller and coax them closer with a good quality hand caller. The different range of sounds available cover just about any scenario. The batteries (lithium in the cold temps) last a long time, and the remote (lithium batteries also) has a dependable range of 50-60 yards.

It is lightweight if packing in on foot, and the price is reasonable. A major drawback is that it has no plug in for your decoys. My fault that I didn’t catch that when I ordered it.

I took a chance and bought this although it seemed a little too cheap to be really useful. Well, it seems you don’t have to spend a lot to get a good electronic call. This one is solidly built, (it has some heft to it) and pretty loud.

I have impaired hearing (at least that’s what my wife tells me). I set this up 100 yards from my blind facing away from me, and I could hear it very plainly. even the mouse squeeks. The jackrabbit and cottontails distress calls, along with the fawn, were quite loud and no doubt carried for a distance.

The Remote was responsive and also worked well. I was testing this mid-day with a out door temp of 30C with a oncoming thunderstorm so I really wasn’t expecting a lot of dogs to show up, but it did get a number of callbacks, and there is no reason to believe it would not work well under better circumstances.

So, if your looking for a in expensive electronic call, this one will probably fit the bill. I left mine at my Son-in-Laws farm so he can use it when it’s not pouring rain and stifling hot. He will probably have better luck than I.

First, I must say that, I’m a serious predator hunter and have a couple other electronic calls, but none add up to the Primos Alpha Dog. The Alpha Dog is light weight and very portable, (stows in a backpack without taking up too much space), the remote is bright and easy to see without optical help due to my ailing eyes, is also very easy to use and understand, which has 5 Expert Hunt Set Calls, that do work.

As a matter of fact, I used these calls today, even though I wasn’t successful in harvesting a coyote, I had responses from several different packs at the same time during my hunt, they just out smarted me today, but the called did it’s job.

The volume of the speakers is outstanding, without distortion and easy to adjust in which ever direction you desire. Honestly, the only negative thing I have to say, is that the remote and the caller have their own power buttons, which means, when you place the call in your desired position, don’t forget to turn it on, then when you return to your set-up position, you must turn on the remote, but it works perfectly.

One last word of advise, the battery compartment on the call, was not very well thought out, where it takes 8 AA Batteries, in which case the compartment that the batteries fit into, is not very secure within the batterycompartment space.

I solved this problem, by simply putting some jumbo sized cotton balls in the excess space, which secures the batteries in place, not allowing them to flop around within the excess space, ultimately keeping the batteries from losing their connection.

Another word of advice, regardless of which call you choose, use Alkaline Batteries, may be more expensive, but you won’t regret it, because they last three times longer than the normal batteries, so they do pay off in the long run!!! Great Call.

First day I used this in a remote field in WV, I called in a pack of 20 coyotes at one time. Only having 10 rounds of ammo, I knew I could wait them out if I was patient and allowed them to make the first mistake.

I didn’t want to end up being their dinner. The first opening was when 2 of them stood one in front of the other out at around 150yrs and I pulled off a “shoot through”. They both dropped at the same time.

Three came over to check out what had just happened and I did it again. Down to 8 rounds with 4 on the ground. A quick peck at the distress rabbit and sure enough, 2 more lined up. Pow, 6 down and 7 rounds left and 14 looking for me as I think they might have scented me.

As they cold trailed back and forth up the steep slope, I couldn’t believe my eyes as two began to cross one in front of the other and Pow, 6 rounds left and 8 on the ground. I sounded off with the choking chicken which brought that pack to a halt and Pow, 2 more down with 5 rounds left.

At 50yrds I stood up and the pack decided they had enough and split. Couldn’t believe my luck that day that I was able to whittle that pack down to half their number by staying cool headed and only using 5 rounds.

One of my all time best investments.

I find the Primos Alpha Dog light and easy to carry. Sounds are very good and loud. I have harvested several Coyotes, a bunch of Crows and called in a Bobcat, several hawks and an owl. Cons: Range is not as good as advertised and is about 100 yards.

I have put an external antenna on it that helps. Also mounted on a tripod increases range as tall grass will reduce the range. Downloading sounds can be a bit complicated but there is plenty of information online.

Also the instruction booklet is not very clear but information is available online. Overall, a nice compact unit in my opinion.

I have not had opportunity to use it in the field. At home use, I like the new controller as it is much easier to see the menu items. It has more calls that fit my needs on it than the old Foxpro. The caller is essentially the same as the old model, so not much to comment on.

It works fine. I did get the external speaker which does provide additional volume.

Very nice game call. Loud, but wish it could go a little louder. Only way to stop a call once actuated is to use MUTE button. If you actuate a call and turn off the remote the caller still calls. I find it odd.

Lots of extra calls online at FoxPro, but you have to download their software and to do so you have to get a special USB to printer USB cable to download FoxPro software as their calls will not work on any other software.

The game call is small, with a 1/4″-20 female thread on the bottom so you really need a small tripod for taller grass if you want to use the FoxJack 5 Decoy so that is shows above the grass – BUT FoxPro does not offer a Tripod.

I’ve tested the remote at over 200 yds and it works.

I have had a couple of electronic collars before this one very good. Programming to my Windows laptop was relatively easy, once you figure out some of the nuances of how their program works. The sound library is pretty good it has a lot of different animals in it.

I bought this because of the warranty It’s Made in America with a 3 year warranty. If you really have a problem you can actually get a live heartbeat on the other end that can help you with your problem, which is kind of rare nowadays.

I noticed a review of a similar Primos caller and they had a hard time getting a similar caller warrantied. They got the run around stating that the caller wasn’t built in the United States so they didn’t know what was in it and what happened or anything to that effect.

So if you’re going to spend this kind of money at least you have some assurance that if something goes wrong that at least someone’s going to try to help you to fix your problem. I do like the ease of use of this caller and it is easily upgradable.

If you needed more sound,which it is pretty loud, like if I was going to hunt 600-plus yard Fields I’d probably get the additional SP speaker for it. But for most sets in the north-east that I hunt it is perfectly fine.

You can also hook the fox Jack 5 to it, which makes this call a very versatile and is also controlled from the remote which is a great feature. The fox bang technology works really well. The guns got to be within about 5 feet.

I have been pleasantly surprised how well thought out this product is.

Received the Game Call and It did not have all the calls that were listed. Sportsman’s Guide quickly sent me another. It was also missing many of the call sounds listed. I called the manufacture (GSM) and they told me to send the unit to them for replacement.

SO far BOTH Sportsman’s Guide and GSM have been great to deal with over the problem. The unit has great sound and is very light weight. Great for packing on those long hunts. Even though it did not have all the sounds on the programed card, I still have to give it a 5 Star rating because of its light weight and quality of sound.

Also the service from Sportsman’s Guide and GSM.

This is a good call for very close in use only, the size of the speaker says it all. The volume is hard to adjust, and has no separate control. Each call is only a couple seconds long and sounds like a skipping record when it is on repeat.

I would NEVER buy another call that couldn’t change sounds via the remote. This call seems fairly well built and in my opinion it would be great for kids or very close range calls at a lower volume. Had I not thrown away the package I would definitely send this unit back ASAP.

The sound is great and the options are good. The only negatives are the fact that to stop a sound you have to pause it. Once you un pause it picks up again. I wish there was a way to just stop the sound like hitting the choice again.

Once you choose a sound, it continues to play non stop. Also, the battery cover seems thin and cheaply made.

We have been able to call in several coyotes, both during the day and at night. Called in one yesterday which we spooked and then called him back in again! We have had success with responses from coyotes in the area calling back to us as well.

Great tool if you are trying to encounter a coyote!.

Great call! High quality sound and long distance with the remote transmitter. Not as loud as I thought it would be, but definitely worth the money!

i use this call mostly while calling coyotes. it drives them nuts. they come in to the call like they are made at you. it works great to locate coyotes also. it has a good sound. after a little practice on the local dog population in town try it out on the coyotes and cats.

works great like my other primos products.

Very easy to use. You bite down on the rubber mouthpiece just a little to create a variance in the pitch. This isn’t a one-tone blow kind of call. You must use your teeth to make the opening to the reed larger and smaller.

Can’t wait to try it in the woods.

I absolutly love this call. It didn’t take but two minutes to call in a cat the first time I used it. And have gotten 5 since on this call. Also drives the coyotes crazy. Would definitely recommend this call to anyone who is looking to put some predators on the ground.

Took this out for a full day of coyote hunting in Saskatchewan this weekend. there were stiff winds and it was -23 Celsius. Pros: What i like about the call is that you can store the decoy in the handle, the remote is very nice and big and it isnt easy to accidently hit a button you dont want to hit.

the call sounds great and has alot of different sounds. i like the timer that displays on the remote to let you know how long you have been on stand. It is good and loud, i called in a double from 750 yards in 15-20 kmph winds.

awesome that you can make it spin to point different directions, if you change your mind about where to place the call. the recall function makes it easy to switch back and forth between two calls in a sequence.

Cons: I wish it had a spot to store the tripod, and the tripod it comes with doesnt have enough surface area to keep it up out of the snow. it would sink in and keep it from spinning. butyou can upgrade it with a normal tripod connection.

It either doesnt play two calls at once or i havent figured out how to do it. There are no wolf sounds on it, and i cant see any on lucky ducks website. i had one issue when i was moving between stands i had the remote hooked to the outside of my bino harness out in the cold and it froze up and the electronics didnt want to work.

put it in my coat for a bit and it worked again just fine. i wish the remote would turn the call on as well, i had to get up a couple times because i forgot to flip the switch on the call.

Great call but there’s always room for improvement. The one thing they really need to change on this unit is the remote. The remote control is not glove friendly, the buttons are to small for heavy winter gloves.

I am having to remove my gloves in the extreme cold to make selection and you know what that means. Frozen hands! Other then that it’s great call.

Purchased this caller for the 2019/2020 winter. First use was in Wyoming and with luck. I wanted a bigger caller for bigger areas (mainly out west). I wasn’t sure if a single directional caller would be better than one with multiple speakers you can point in different directions.

With the rotating unit, I think this is better now that I used it. If the wind changes you can change directions all around and not have to move. Below are some more thoughts after my first use. Overall, gave it a 4 star since I only used it once.

Likes: Remote options, ability to rotate on tripod, built in decoy, range of remote Dislikes: Size (really the only thing so far). The end of the cone is pretty large and make it harder to load in my pack for hiking, but I got it to work.

I’ll take it if it keeps bringing in the “dogs”.

Hey. I bought one a few years back and it has more turkey calls on it than this one. Whats the deal. I bought it only for turkey season. So Im not going to say if I would recommend it or not. My old turkey call comes on but it has no sound.

I would love to get it fixed. Can you help.
