A controller is a device that is used to control video games. The most common type of controller is a gamepad, which typically has two analog sticks, a d-pad, and several buttons. Some controllers also have rumble features and/or motion control.

The Robot white Xbox Series X controller is much like your previous generation controllers at first glance. However with the integration of Microsoft’s new share feature, the share button sits at the heart of the controller.
This is used for clipping gameplay moments that backtrack 5 minutes. I’m not sure how useful this is for the everyday gamer, but I’m sure it will be useful for streamers and content creators on consoles.
Once you’ve got your hands on the controller itself you’ll notice an immediate difference. Where the whites of your fingers hold the underside of the device, you’ll notice a tactile grip that is comfortable to hold and non slip.
This grip is also present on the trigger and bumper buttons as well as the sides of the analogue sticks. Much like the last generation of Xbox controllers, these also have a sleek matte finish. One important detail to note if you are buying one of these for the PC is that you will have to update the controllers firmware via USB Type C, otherwise you will encounter connectivity issues with Bluetooth.
P. S. Microsoft have yet to make a controller that has integrated rechargeable batteries, a little disappointing when the addon for a rechargeable is $50 when you can buy a PS5 Pro controller for $130.
Designed specifically for Apple Gaming, Nimbus+ brings a console-quality gaming experience to iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple TV. Use your Nimbus+ controller to play thousands of games on all your Apple devices.
With the most popular games for every genre, youll have full control of your favorite games. A built-in lithium-ion battery lasts for 50 hours of play on a single charge, so you wont need to worry about running out of power.
Adjustable customisable design Play like a pro with the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller. Everyone plays differently and now youve got the ability to adjust your controller in loads of different ways.
You can enhance your aiming with the upgraded thumbsticks-theyre adjustable so you can change the tension to suit you. You can even change the thumbsticks to a different set if you prefer-theres 3 different options included.
And theres different paddle sets too-customise the controller to suit how you play. Want to customise the keys Its easy with the Xbox accessories app. You can even use assign voice commands like record that or take a screenshot.
Built for speed and control The Series 2 Elite Controller is also designed for speed-fire faster than ever with new and improved triggers. And with a textured rubber grip that wraps around to the back the Xbox Elite Controller looks and feels great.
Designed for extended gameplay The Elite Controller has up to 40 hours of battery life-and when its time to recharge you can plug in with the cable or use the charging dock.
The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 feels a lot better than the included controller in the Series X/S and seems more like a true “next gen” controller. I primarily use the Xbox Elite 2 for PC gaming.
On Steam when connecting via Bluetooth the controller has worked flawlessly except with Batman: Arkham Knight which required telling the game it was a 360 controller with custom mappings. Surprisingly with Xbox PC game pass I ran into many more issues when connecting via Bluetooth, I found connecting via the included USB-C cable works better for game pass games, otherwise on BT I run into issues where some of the buttons aren’t mapped properly and even when manually mapping them they don’t respond correctly or at all.
Being Xbox’s flagship controller, I would think it would run seamlessly on Xbox game pass. The experience may be better on consoles but this controller is billed as an Xbox/PC controller and should work well on both.
Other than those issues, which largely are corrected by connecting via USB-C, I like the controller quite a bit. The rumble feature feels much more natural than the included Xbox Series X controllers, which felt to me like technology from 10+ years ago with very basic and clunky vibration feedback, lightweight and a need for AA batteries, especially when compared with the all mighty PS DualSense.
The Elite 2 controller has a nice weight to it, the thumb sticks feel solid, snappy and respond nicely. I haven’t used the paddles much but I like that they are included and could see them being useful for many games.
The grips feel good as well and make the controller sit securely in your hands during gaming sessions. The controller also feels more balanced than the X/S. This controller comes with a quality, corded 9′ USB to USB-C cable as well as a rugged case that doubles as a charging station.
Within the case it also includes a tool to adjust the thumb sticks as well as an alternate D-pad. Overall this is a large improvement over the included X/S controllers, and some of its PC compatibility issues which are a bit frustrating can largely be overcome by tethering with USB-C.
I have played XBOX since the very first iteration of the console. And throughout those years I have gone through quite a few controllers. I have mostly stuck to Microsoft controllers in doing so. I finally caved and forked over the money for the most seemingly premium controller available in the Elite Series 2.
This controller has all he features possible to make your gaming experience as quality and fun as possible. Adjustable triggers, remappable buttons, a seamless integration and connection to your XBOX by way of the accessories application on your desk top, a rechargeable battery pack built in that gives you hours of gameplay before needing another charge (think I have played something like 10 hours before charging it), it comes with a carrying case that houses the controller and a bunch of extra addons like alternative thumbsticks and paddles to add to the controller for any player’s comfort or preference, and it even utilizes USB-C.
Now, with all that being said, this controller, with it’s vast price point and immense amount of features STILL suffers from Microsoft’s inability to consistently show that it can produce good build quality in its controllers.
In a few moths the right trigger began to creak a bit, and had a problem where it would stick. This is apparently a common issue with the glue that they use to supply a padding to the trigger so that when you push it in it doesn’t have plastic hitting plastic.
The only fix is spraying a bunch of alcohol into it and jabbing it with a Q-tip until the glue becomes less sticky and it stops sticking. Recently, the left bumper started becoming unresponsive. I could hit the side of the controller on a hard surface a bit and it would briefly fix the problem, which would return after a few minutes.
Other issues such as pushing the trigger down to fire in an FPS game, but then if you are pushing the trigger feverishly in an intense moment the melee button (most commonly the right thumbstick click which I had remapped to a paddle) would initiate and I would throw a melee for no reason, and of course probably lose the fire fight with my opponent.
The controller began to become more of a liability than an enhancement to my gaming experience. And for the amount of money it costs, that is ridiculous. Microsoft truly needs to figure out why their controllers are always such poor quality, especially one that costs half of what a whole console would be to purchase.
After using one of these controllers for about the last 6 months, I still can’t understand its high praise from community. I feel obliged to share my experience. Features: The paddles sound nice on paper but not all users will find them useful.
Certain grip styles will notice they just get in the way. After playing on standard controllers for so long without paddles/buttons on the back side, I’ve found it difficult to adapt to them and play most games with the paddles removed.
The customizable joysticks are a neat idea, though being held by magnetism, they tend to shift around resulting in a springy feel. I notice this in game but also a lot while navigating menus. If I press down on the joystick and then simply let go, the action results in a down then up instead of just a down.
The springy feel can be slightly reduced by adjusting the joystick tension but I have found that tension setting resets itself over time during use. Also, the joysticks have a grindy feel when pressed down and rotating, something I don’t experience with standard controllers.
The trigger locks are fine, though depending on your grip style, they can accidently shift settings during use. Build Quality: Now build quality is something I expected the Elite would exceed in over the standard controllers but has not been the case.
The Elite controller can split open from drops as low as two feet onto a throw rug. Unlike the standard controllers that have removable grip panels and the two main halves screwed together, the Elite is simply two halves snapped together by small clips.
If you are strong enough, you can literally split one of these open in your hands. A standard controller can absorb drops 10x better than the Elite. If considering an Elite controller, I’d highly recommend purchasing the accidental damage coverage because if you drop your controller once and a tab snaps off, it won’t seal right and would require a replacement.
Also, as of last week, my Elite controller developed stick drift in the left joystick which leads me to believe that the joystick rocker modules are no better quality than the ones used in the standard controllers.
Value: Considering all my experiences mentioned above make this controller a terrible value. You are essentially spending $120 more over a standard controller for the addition of paddles, adjustable thumb sticks, trigger stops and a fancy case with charging station.
Again, the features are poorly implemented and the overall quality of the controller is worse than a standard controller. I personally would not recommend this controller to anyone who is expecting a significant upgrade from a standard controller.
There are plenty of cheap aftermarket add-ons out there, that can essentially get a standard controller the features the Elite has. Elite is all hype.
The Astro C40 TR Controller is a fully customizable, high-quality pro controller built for the serious gamer. Durable and serviceable, the C40 TR Controller features swappable, replaceable analog stick and D-Pad modules as well as remappable rear buttons, allowing for multiple configurations and increased speed and accuracy for any playstyle and any genre.
Seamless performance in wired or wireless modes with high-fidelity wireless audio. Free software to create and share custom controller profiles. With up to 12+ hours of battery life, the C40 TR Controller is made to outlast your game.
Connect your controller to your computer using the included USB Cable or USB Wireless Transmitter. Make sure your controller is in Wired mode if connecting via USB Cable, or in Wireless mode if connecting using the USB Wireless Transmitter.
After you remove the faceplate and swap in the new module, please re-calibrate the controller again to avoid stick drift, unintended activations, or unresponsive modules. To re-calibrate, make sure the faceplate is secured correctly back on, then hold the program button on the back of the controller, let it vibrate once then don’t touch it for about 20-30 seconds.
When re-calibration is complete the controller will vibrate again with the LED light blinking white twice.
Pros Premium quality Comfortable grip and feel Slick and satisfying design Great battery life Modular and great range of customisation Seamless wireless and wired performance for PC and PlayStation 4 Cons Expensive Has no battery life indicator Quite bulky I was excited to unbox the Astro C40 and it didn’t disappoint.
This oozes quality and performs exquisitely for pro or casual gamers. The Astro C40 TR has the slick premium look with the satisfying feel of a tournament grade controller. The controller has high quality snappy buttons and triggers which have the right amount of resistance, and analog sticks which glide effortlessly.
Pair this with the pleasing rubber-like coating and groves on the back of the handles make the Astro CE40 TR feel ergonomic and feels great the moment you pick it up. It is a quite bulky for a PS4 controller which does feel quite weird and can be likened to the bulky Xbox 360 controller from back in the day but this is something you do get used to due rather quickly.
The big selling point for the Astro C40 is the customisation, which is amazing. The C40 controller offers a ton of customisation options; It has the ability to swap the location of the analog sticks and d-pad (it’s as easy as removing the face plate and swapping the components around which snap into mechanical slots which literally takes a few seconds), the controller has two rear triggers at the back, plus two mechanical switches above these and by using Astros free software you can remap pretty much every button on the controller.
It doesn’t stop there you can also adjust the vibration intensity, adjust analog sticks and change the LED brightness. All settings are saved locally on the controller itself meaning it doesn’t matter which PS4/PC you play on the settings will remain the same.
The C40 comes with a wireless dongle and can be used in wired mode. After using the controller extensively on wireless, I must say there is certainly no issue with performance as the controller is able to sustain a fast and reliable connection.
One of my gripes with this controller is that you cannot power on your PS4 with the PlayStation button, and have to turn it on manually unless you use a DualShock controller, I know this is a minor inconvenience but a feature I would have liked to see nonetheless.
Another great feature is the battery life, I have tried and tested this beast and it stays with me to the end. I can get a marathon 12-hour gaming session from this controller. Overall, I love everything about this controller from the overall design to the functionality of the controller.
The pros definitely outweigh the cons, and this is the least you would expect for the hefty price tag. However, if you are in the market for a fine piece of tournament ready gaming hardware then look no further.
This really is perfect for an array of games such as shooters, fighting games, battle royale’s and other intense action games.
If you get this expect to buy 5 more modules within 2 years. Stuff like stick drift and imput glitches are everywhere with this. Wd40 fixes stick drift for a time but it always comes back. They have a application on the computer that is said to fix stick drift but it doesn’t (not for me at least).
One example of an input glitch is trying to look around and and being pulled towards the right, messing up your aim. The 2 buttons on the bottom are nice but you can get that with an add on for a normal ps4 controller.
The most help I received from astro support was to purchase new modules.
Was great. at first. Now, not so much. First it starts with stick drift and attempting to recalibrate. Then it turns out if you don’t play for two weeks and the battery gets low, it won’t accept a charge.
Tried a reset per the manufacturer, no change unfortunately. They instructed me to take a video of how the reset is being performed (I understand why they want a video, to make sure you are doing it right).
I have yet to do that, laziness and frustration on my part. I really liked this controller, so much so that I have been using it wired for the past couple of weeks just because I am so used to the button layout.
Today it completely failed in the middle of a game, it recognized that the controller was connected but no button functions whatsoever. A real shame considering the money spent on it. Perhaps my situation is unique and others won’t have problems.
I will say, when it worked. It was awesome. Just didn’t last for me.

appears to be a fake. it is not oem and it is not a oem remanufactured item. give away was the finish and the ‘bulb’ in the middle of the charge cord. and this is a approved reman. seller for walmart.
no thanks. would never take/keep a charge, would not stay connected to console, would not operate properly, would not function properly, would just shut off for no reason and/or disconnect from console.
My favorite controller of all time. So easy to use without causing hand cramps. The buttons are easy to memorize and the dual shock is a nice feature for game experience. The only thing I would change is the ability to split the controller like the Nintendo switch because having your hands both on the contoller gets awkward over time and doesn’t promote good posture.

The controller is honestly better than the official pro controller in my honest opinion. I’m not a diehard gamecube fanatic or a super competitive smash player so this is coming from someone who uses the controller for general use.
It’s super great for some motion control titles like Mario Galaxy in the 3D AllStars collection. I love gyro aim with the controller so BOTW was great. You might get drift, I did but it went away somehow.
PowerA offers a replacement incase you get drift but thats a lot of mailing back and forth or something (I never submitted a claim so I wouldnt know) so keep that in mind.
Let’s get the following out of the way. Look at this if you are reserved about the controller. – Uses AA batteries. No charging available. Use chargeable AA batteries. – No Amiibo functionality – No Rumble.
Now then, if any of those bother you, do not get this controller. Otherwise. This is a fantastic controller. From the plastic cover on the wrapping, I know that multiple people worried about the Stickpad on the bottom left, due to how much space was between the engraved edges and the extrusion.
However, I am happy to say that it is not only solid, it is not loose at all, and is more accurate than the pro controller. Speaking of pro controller, I’ve had this for a few months, and have suffered NO STICK DRIFT.
This is something that has happened consistently on my pro controller (Have spent 80$ with Nintendo so far repairing my Pro Controller twice. ) and so next time my Pro controller has stick drift, I’m going to purely stick with this controller.
The customizable buttons simply work. I’m a bit of a purist so I always feel a little guilty having that advantage, so I don’t really use it, but for those who bought it for that, it is very easy to customize, and is helpful in games such as Splatoon 2.
Speaking of Splatoon 2, the motion control in this controller is excellent. I can move as quickly as I can with the Pro Controller, and snapping behind your field of vision when ambushed in Splatoon 2 is about the same.
If you don’t mind those 3 things earlier, you’ll be impressed with this controller.
The perfect blend of powerful technology, sophisticated design and realized possibilities for the future of games and entertainment has arrived. This isn’t about incremental change. It’s a revolution.
Break out of linear and limited entertainment. Leave passive, one-size-fits-all fun behind. Unleash the power of human energy. Xbox 360 inspires new ways to connect to riveting stories, to social communities, to unbridled creativity, and to living, breathing worlds.
To make things clear: do not waste your time looking for anything else than official Controller S for original Xbox. This is the device built when Microsoft did invest money into the project. It is high quality an superb ergonomics, but at a relatively very low price.
There is nothing else on the market that matches its quality and price. Do not waste your time with crappy Xbox 360 gamepads that were totally screwed up by design (digital pad not responsive by design fault).
Don’t waste your time hunting for PC gamepads of the same quality. If they exist, you will not be able to get replacement parts like rubber caps. You can easily replace rubber caps on Controller S with 360 caps.
Controller S is the leading gamepad even in 2017. Best price/quality ratio.
The OG Xbox was a great console, but the original controller was a beast. This S Model is much better. If you like the 360 controller (and who wouldn’t) you’ll love this one. The D-pad might be a little better here than on the 360 controller as well.
