I use this as my backup edit machine for Adobe. Runs everything well and connects to my thunderbolt 3 raid without issues. Nice laptop.

Good but not great

This laptop is very powerful, got it on sale for 1799 and can’t really complain on that front – Literally a desktop replacement power-wise. Comparably spec’d laptops were in the 2500+ range, although I think they would be better rounded out.

I do have a couple gripes which are minor for the price point but worth noting, and bug me enough that I am probably going to return it. – Dead pixel after 3 days of use. – Screen is definitely OK, but not great in terms of colors and brightness.

7/10 – Wifi card doesn’t seem to be super great for gaming connectivity, it’s ok, 6/10 – Keyboard isn’t great, keystrokes are short and if you type a lot you will get tired of it. Font they used is a little too busy for me.

Layout of the keyboard is pretty good though. 6/10. – Webcam works, not great, but decent for 720p. 6/10 – Fans really ramp up and get quite loud under any sort of load. If you don’t wear headphones this will get old very fast.

– Touchpad is definitely feels cheaper, tracks well but is quite small and the feel of the click is really cheap feeling. 4/10 Overall if you plan on docking this machine a lot and only using it the odd time as a laptop, I think it’s a great value.

If you are power-using as a laptop, look for a better chassis, screen and keyboard. Gave it 4 stars for the price I got it at, anything over $2000 I’d give it 3 stars.

This MSI gaming laptop is everything you could ask for in a gaming laptop. The great build quality and outstanding thermals get the most out of the laptop’s components while still remaining relatively cool even under the most intense applications or games.

This is a quality over quantity product which does not disappoint, as you can notice the quality in every regard, starting with an amazing performance, a very pleasant and accurate 17 inch display, a very comfortable keyboard, all in a great sleek package.

This laptop is not only good for gaming, but also for running advanced professional software on it. In my tests with triple A games, the CPU and GPU usually maintain cool temperatures, only exceeding that range when in extreme settings during a very demanding scenery.

As for mobility, the laptop’s battery has lasted me up to 3-4 hours in the lower settings with a dim display, which may be an issue for people attending long classes or conferences without a power outlet available.

For my transition from a desktop Gaming PC to a Gaming Laptop. It nicely answered my main concerns : I’m quite fed up with dusty towers. I really have no more time and patience to keep building my own gaming PC’s.

I don’t want to spend too much money but without sacrificing gaming performance. Home setup with external screen, external disk , external keyboard and mouse is as expected. 2 minor cons : From time to time the fans start to be noisy when it’s overworking.

As far as i’m concerned it doesn’t last that long and it’s not really annoying. You should think about an external SSD disk if you don’t want to face a crual dilemma : Install or not install that game ? 512 GB are definitely not enough.

This laptop is alright, but it depends on what you’re planning on using it for. I’ve been running into quite a few very annoying and persistent issues since I bought this laptop around January of 2021.

I’m a student so I watch a lot of videos for both school and in my free time and one of the worst issues is that the screen would freeze and break when going fullscreen and occasionally the audio would become staticy.

To get rid of the static I would have to reboot the whole laptop. Another thing is this laptop simply doesn’t know how to go into sleep mode. If made to sleep even for a brief period of time, all of your windows will close and nothing will be saved.

When turned back on I will receive a flash of the BSOD so brief I can’t even see what the code is. You might as well shut down the laptop each time you need to walk away, but that’s still a hassle. Otherwise, this laptop is very light and portable.

The battery lasts for a very long time and it’s good for taking out with you. The laptop itself is pretty fast and is good for writing, and the keyboard is really comfortable to type with.

For this price it should not be a “tinkerers” project machine. Great minutes out of the box then Windows Update updated the video drivers, machine popped up a message that the MSI True Color app would need to be manually updated “If the screen appears washed out after automatic updates” So MSI knew there was a problem enough to create a special alert for it but not to do anything about it.

Yep, rebooting after Windows Update and you could hardly read any text anywhere on the screens. MSI web page says manually uninstall MSI True Color ap then go find the support page by yourself and download the Intel and NVidia drivers and reinstall them and then manually reinstall the TruColor app.

Did it. Still barely readable screen. Did it again. Did it a third time. Logged into MSI support (I have two other 15″ Stealths that hve been great all the way to completely rubbed-off WASD keys), went to the “Live Chat” page which has “Search FAQs” and “Search Customer Forumns” but No Chat system.

Huh. No Support number to call. In the cusotmer to customer forums there is the washed out screen problem for newer Stealths and Titans with the notice of the recommended steps I had already taken not always working and a user pointing to download a 3rd party driver update tool from some guy he knows.

Again, look at the PRICE of this unit. if at this price it does not work out of the box with zero issues and – these days – does not have an OEM control center tool that does the fixes for you then,,, back it goes.

Too bad, over the years MSI has been my goto solid. One day with this one, many tries giving it the benefit of the doubt, back for a refund. Oh well.

I bought this for traveling and for our kids to use around our house when im working on our desktop. It’s a little larger travel If you’re going to be traveling frequently with it but I only travel about once a month so it’ll be perfect.

Computer is fast and checks all the boxes that we need. Awesome all around and love that it comes wkrh a numeric pad too!.

It’s a great laptop. I formerly had a MacBook, but grew tired of the different interface. Overall, the windows/pc interface is more user friendly and compatible with most programs. The OS is really fast.

The camera is nice. It’s awesome that it is really a nicely made tablet so you can separate it with ease and the keyboard is really sturdy and well made. Additionally the laptop is touchscreen. Overall it’s just an amazing laptop.

Been at uni for 2 years before committing to this laptop and I’m so glad that I have. The surface book is extremely useful and has a real USP that almost every other product lacks; the ability to detach the screen while still having a solid keyboard.

I use this laptop for taking notes in class, running simulations, programming, writing reports and general computer stuff. It’s not let me down in any way at all, it’s able to power through even the toughest of programmes with ease.

The windows OS and hardware being built by Microsoft means that the hardware and software are optimised for each other. The laptops usability as a touchscreen note pad is also great, the pen has a easy magnetic holder on the side of the laptop and it works really well.

Writing is extremely easy and the use of the end of the pen as a rubber makes it feel a lot like a pencil which is great. If there’s one small thing that annoys me, it’s that at a very small scale, Theres jitter.

when you are taking small notes with the finest pen you may notice slight jitter. This has been addressed through software updates but is not perfect and i use a thicker pen when writing to combat this.

The laptop itself is great, it has many features that other manufacturers overlook. The screen is of an extremely high quality both in colour and pixel density giving for high quality images. The laptop can open with face regocnition which is extremely easy.

The laptop opens without having to hold the base down. The feel of the magnesium body is great and much nicer to touch (especially on cold days) compared to metal. All in all this laptop is an amazing invest and one that I would say is worth every penny.

It has never failed me and makes my life so much easier!!.

My wife has an original Microsoft Surface Book which works very well for her as a laptop. However, I needed to replace an 8+ year old HP EliteBook 6930p desktop docked laptop. This mainly to run the current version of VMware Workstation Pro on Windows 10 Pro.

The VMware installer popup informed me that it could install on my old HP laptop but that virtual machines may not actually run with its ancient Intel processor. So the specs for this Microsoft Surface Book 2 appealed, with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD (I would have preferred the 1GB) version.

Still this new system was uniquely affordable, in that it had been substantially damaged. Significantly “bent” (the screen and base are actually bent) in luggage during travel by the previous owner. That being said, whilst the base and tablet were bent the system still functions completely normally.

It fits my purpose as a docked laptop and as such is a testament to the durability and usability of the Microsoft Surface Book 2. This despite its “bent” and likely unwarrantable condition. The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is quiet, fast and works great with a Microsoft Surface Dock and an external Lenovo monitor connected via the Surface dock and an Apple mini display port to DVI cable.

It is being used with a 102W Microsoft Surface power supply. This Surface Book 2 will also work undocked and in tablet only mode too (without the base). I also have the latest Microsoft Surface pen to use with it, just in case.

As stated, my primary use, is for the Microsoft Surface Book 2 to be a docked desktop laptop, which it is doing perfectly. As great as it is as a docked desktop, this system would also be ideal as a power users mobile Windows 10 laptop and competes as well or better than similar offerings in the market.

One caveat for the Microsoft Surface Book 2 and its Surface Book predecessor, is that the SSD storage and system memory (RAM) are fixed model specific configurations and unfortunately not designed to be upgradable.

Apart from that there’s no real reason for me to not like the Microsoft Surface Book 2, except for the normally high price or unless you like the features, functions or price of another laptop better.

Pros: The mini Led screen is amazing. Beautiful design aesthetic. Considering the price of pure mini led monitors this was a steal. Cons: Motherboard is flipped – difficult to add RAM. Due to its power and thinness the fans do come on more often than my previous laptop.

Pros: Excellent laptop with good performance and design and nice keyboard feel

Everything about this laptop is incredible, it exceeds my expectations and those were high already. There are only three downsides to it though. Its overpriced, the fans kick in quite fast since it gets hot quickly and it only supports USB-C and no other ports.

You need adapters or USB hubs, which are not cheap to say the least and thats on top of the already expensive enough laptop. Those were the only negative points, moving on to the positive ones. The fingerprint scan is amazing, it recognises my finger really quickly, even if its slightly wet.

It saves me a few seconds every time I open it since I dont have to fill in my password. That doesnt sound impressive, but it can save me hours in my whole life in total and time is precious. It can save up to five fingerprints, so if one of your fingers is dirty, you can always save spare ones and use those instead.

As you can see in the picture, the speakers are massive and the sound quality cant be compared to any other laptop that Ive ever used. The sound is unbelievably clear and the bass is beautiful. Like I mentioned before, the laptop has USB-C ports, four of them to be exact.

Moreover, the laptop contains enough energy to charge your iPad and other devices and the trackpad is huge. Last but not least, the touch bar is fantastic and fairly easy to use. It cannot only stop and play the music youre listening to on iTunes, but also the videos youre watching on YouTube.

You can adapt it to your preferences. Fortunately, they decided to change the old butterfly keyboards, so they arent sticky anymore. The most wonderful thing about this keyboard is that the ESC button is separate from the touch bar, which wasnt the case with the older models.

There have been complaints about that and now its fixed! If youre on a tight budget, DO NOT buy this laptop. There are so many laptops out there that can provide you the same experience. Only buy this laptop when you have money to spare.

Also, DO NOT buy it when youre only using it for basic operations, such as watching Netflix, YouTube and some light office work on Word or Powerpoint.

Ive bought the I9, 1TB, 16GB version. I should highlight now, that Im not a poweruser, but I do some music production as a hobby, so Im not using this laptop in the most extreme way. Its also my first ever Mac Ive only ever used windows beforeThe hardware is truly stunning from the notquite 4k screen to the stunning aluminium chassis and snappy keyboard, I was thoroughly impressed with what Apple has been doing in the laptop space.

A particular highlight for me is that huge trackpad it provides fantastic precision and the Taptic engine which powers the haptic feedback is second to none. The speakers are also classleading I was shocked at the fidelity they are capable of.

The only letdown on the hardware side is the lessthanspectacular 720p webcam which falls slightly short of expectations I would expect 1080p from a 2,500 laptop, but I guess we cant have everything The bezels around the 16 screen are also remarkably small.

Dell XPS laptops do have a slight edge in terms of screentobody ratio, but nonetheless it does look very sleek. From a software perspective, Mac OS is not something Ive had any real exposure to before, but within a couple of days I had settled right in.

Gestures are well implemented much better than windows and there are plenty of useful shortcuts available for those who wish to use them. My only real complaints here is the absolutely bananas idea that you have to download special software to transfer files back and forth from an android device.

I found this pretty irritating, especially as I wanted to add a bunch of photos from my S10 and the process was less than seamless. I also think the Touch Bar is a total gimmick. It displays largely irrelevant info most of the time and I cant fathom why they would want to make simple tasks such as changing volume or brightness more complicated than necessary.

I can see the vague utility of being able to scrub through YouTube videos or editing projects with greater ease, but Im pretty sure this was simply Apples way of justifying the upgrade to some customers.

Im glad we have a physical escape key now though Ive seen this is missing from prior models. Also worth mentioning is the finger print scanner it works well amp is great for maintaining security while ensuring that logging in is seamless, but I wouldve liked them to implement Face ID as that Windows computers already have this in the form of Windows Hello.

Its also worth noting, as an aside that you can only stream Netflix at a Maximum of 1080p, and only via Safari Chrome is 720p. This obviously isnt an issue for most people, but I do have Netflix in 4k, so would ideally have liked to make full use of the nearly 4k display.

Its also clear that the Windows store is much more populated than Apples Store for Mac these store fronts are great for easily and securely keeping your commonly used applications up to date I always use the Netflix on the windows store as it can provide full 4k.

The IO is absolutely fine 4 thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack do me just fine, though your mileage may vary if youre sick of living that dongle lifestyle. Overall great machine, stunning build quality and a breeze to use.

I wont comment too much on performance, as this is not my expertise all I can say is that it is pretty snappy all round. It is pricey and it is not the most versatile OS in terms of compatibility, but the overall experience is fantastic if you have the money to burn and dont need to game or stream 4k Netflix.

Overall not a bad machine – relatively fast, comfortable keyboard. The keyboard actually fails quite often. It is engineered like this – to break easily. So that you will either buy the expensive module which is like 1/3 of the notebook value or you either buy the mac keyboard – you decide.

Very good marketing trick as you have no other choice but to spend even more money on it. Me and another 4 friends are having this particular model of macbook pro. For 3 of us the keyboard failed. I don’t believe it is coincidence especially when we are talking about multi billion business.

The second thing is that once I enter a video correspondence the fan starts rotating like crazy and my battery dies in two hours. I can not believe I can spend 2 or 3 thousand on such a product and be left with such a cheap experience.

I think that if you are a real professional and want to use this computer for work – 10-12 hours with video cals, VPN connections etc than you should spend like 5-6k to get the top spec and then maybe your fan will not go crazy, your battery will not die in 1.

5-2 hours and probably you will end up with a bit better experience. Unless the keyboard gives you up. Thats why you’ll need a additional keyboard as well. Think before you spend your money.

Bought this MacBook Pro 16 halfway expecting something to be wrong with it when I it was delivered. I inspected it top to bottom, looking for evidence of some grand conspiracy. I just couldnt find it.

But I did find however is a machine that wouldve cost me almost $1000 more if purchased brand new, but that had barely 30 cycles on the battery, and that looked almost brand new. There is some evidence of prior use if you look closely at the trackpad, but otherwise I could not have distinguished this from a unit pulled from a retail box that same day.

The speakers on the 16 inch MacBook Pro are something else. They saturate the area with sound, seeming to bounce it off the display to create an immersive experience. I highly recommend picking up a macboook pro for a relative steal now that the M1s have apparently tanked the price of these.

Also I underestimated how often I would use the thunderbolt ports to switch the side Im using to charge. This is such an underrated feature.

A year ago I bought an IdeaPad 3 (11th gen. i5, 8GB, 256 SSD). I had a short-term need for a computer and the low price way key. It quickly became my primary workstation due to a great keyboard and touch-pad.

The screen isn’t as bright as some, but in normal environments is fine. It has been flawless, and does what I need it to. When my backup computer died I picked up the current generation IdeaPad 3i (12 gen i5, 8GB, 256 SSD) and again added 16GB RAM.

The new one has 8 GB soldered with an open slot so I now have a 24GB 10 CPU core workstation for a bargain price – the sale prices are key. Between my two IdeaPads I can run a lot of VMs simultaneously for dev.

work. The ability to upgrade RAM is not common in value-line laptops now. It is not the lightest computer, but is not heavy. Build quality is good but not cheep – the plastics are resiliant and the hinge is very solid.

Battery life isn’t great if you push it hard – but that is true on most laptops. I appreciate the no-frills design that just works and gets my work done.

Brand new laptop and internal microphone does not work. Took me a day to set the machine up and copy things across. Very pleased with myself, and then. Contacted Lenovo technical and they did get back to me.

Tried all fixes and nothing worked. Solution was to take it back to factory settings and lose everything or send it back to them. Not prepared to do that after all the time I had spent on it and not sure if it would work then.

Bought a cheap microphone and plugged it in – that works. A cheaper and more convenient solution. Microphone should work in a new machine, surely?? Shame. I was liking Lenovo, but won’t be recommending them or buying another one.

The inventory for new laptops was drastically low everywhere, so I decided to try this ‘open box -Geek Squad Certified’ laptop. The box that it came in was dirty and it looked like it had been taped multiple times, as in, it had been purchased and returned more than once.

I tried not to let it sway me. When I turned it on though, there were a couple of thick, dark, non-uniform streaks across the screen and another along the right hand side of the screen. It wasn’t dirt; I was sold a laptop with a badly damaged screen.

It was so bad that any text behind these lines was completely illegible. Let’s just say that I have no faith in the Geek Squad Certification and will never buy another open box product. I am also learning the hard way when it comes to getting a refund.

I sent a laptop back 9 days ago and still have not received any acknowledgment that it has been received. The tracking number I was given registered an error message, both when I entered it and when two different Best Buy employees tried to enter it.

I’m wondering if I will ever get my money back. I gave one star for the employees who work in customer service. They are kind people working in a very flawed system. I would give negative stars for the person whose job it was to check this laptop and for the people handling returns at the warehouse.

Coming from a seven year old 15 MBP that was still working perfectly other than needed a battery replacement, this new laptop is amazing. Compact, great screen, solid build quality, amazing keyboard and trackpad, serviceable webcam, solid built in speakers.

It’s dramatically faster, quieter, and cooler than my last laptop. I’ve been working with 4k video that made my last computer sound like it was going to explode, while this one doesn’t even turn on the fans audibly for the same tasks.

I do think Apple’s prices are a little on the insane side, but considering I use it for work and they general lasts me 5 years or so, I think the price is justifiable. If I were a guessing man, I think that the build this generation thicker than they had to so the next revision can be thinner (assuming they can still fit fans in it).

But overall, very happy with this purchase.

Impressed with the performance gains over my fully-loaded 2017 iMac so far. Thumbnails load so quickly in Adobe Bridge that they look like they were always there. FileVault encrypted my entire 1TB SSD instantly.

The full-height function keys are a delightful way to bid good riddance to the Touch Bar. I wrote notes and did some light web browsing for an entire hour last night on battery, and the charge stayed at 100% the entire time.

Display is gorgeous with noticeably high contrast. Minor quibble: the MagSafe charger is apparently only produced in silver, so the color won’t match when plugged into a space gray laptop. For what this thing cost, a color-matched charging cable would have been a nice touch.

At first, I was pretty impressed with this Mac. There were a few scratches but nothing major, and the corners were scraped up but that was expected. I didn’t mind the tiny dings here and there. But then I discovered the issue with the battery.

My battery will last me about 45 minutes before going dead. It says the battery health has declined significantly and needs replaced. So that’s not cool, considering it’s going to cost about $145 for me to have a new battery put it.

And not to mention I don’t have an Apple store in my town so I’ll have to drive to one a little ways away. Also, this is a 2013 Mac if anyone wants to know. I know it doesn’t say that anywhere in the description and it would’ve been good to know.

I had to update mine a couple times to get to the latest IOS. Overall, it’s an okay purchase. I’m not returning mine because I really do love it besides the battery issue, and since I can fix that issue I guess it was a decent purchase.

It was old but it was good. Ive used it for a bit and it performs well. Its not anything astonishing like a fast gaming computer or anything but to do some basic things and light gaming it is good with it.

Could not get either display port to output video, although machine seemed to boot. There is NO VGA as described, and the included display port to DVI adapter still had no video. Returned. Newegg has awesome customer service.

If you have a monitor that accepts display port directly, this could be a good machine.
