Best Command And Conquer Game (2024 Updated)

Bought this game back when I was 7-8 with my own money because I was really into military stuff. Decided to pick it up again (I had lost it) last week. It came super quickly and in amazing condition, however what I didn’t know is that it does not run on windows 10 (my computer) rendering this purchase pointless and a waste of money.

I’ve done alot of research to try and make it run but none of it worked. My advice, steer clear unless you’re sure you can run the game on your system.

I enjoyed playing Command & Conquer enough that I wore out the CD-ROM. Generals was awesome & challenging enough to want to play several times and test your strategies, This might make me want to get another copy of Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour, too.

I still remember when I was a young kid watching my cousin play the playstation version of Command & Conquer Red Alert. I was so intrigued by the gameplay. What I didn’t like was that he almost never let me play, so I watched him play and waited for my chance patiently.

And so I learned watching him play and started to appreciate the series with the years flying by. When I first found this game at the retail store I knew I had to own it and so I bought it. I never imagined I would grow to love this game so much.

It has been almost 8 years since this game came out and still the online gamers fill the multiplayer rooms. There are 3 major points to note. 1. On online multiplayer games most players use MH (maphack).

2. Expect much trash talk in online games. 3. This game is very addictive because of so much competition EA games gives you; in their own words ‘challenge everything’. If you don’t care what people say to you this game is for you.

Red Alert 3 breaks new ground in the RTS genre, featuring a fully co-operative campaign while bringing back the series light-hearted style and classic, action-oriented gameplay. In Red Alert 3, the desperate leadership of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia.

The time travel mission goes awry, creating an alternate timeline where technology has followed an entirely different evolution, a new superpower has been thrust on to the world stage, and World War III is raging.

The Empire of the Rising Sun has risen in the East, making World War III a three-way struggle between the Soviets, the Allies, and the Empire with armies fielding wacky and wonderful weapons and technologies like Tesla coils, heavily armed War Blimps, teleportation, armored bears, intelligent dolphins, floating island fortresses, and transforming tanks.

Red Alert 3 asks the question “What If?” What if every bizarre research project and technology experiment for the last 70 years had actually borne fruit? What if the Philadelphia Experiment, time travel theory, teleportation, invisibility, Tesla technology, and a hundred other intriguing research projects had all paid off and gone mainstream? What if the Soviet Union survived and thrived; what would it look like 10 years in the future? What if the Japanese Empire had never fallen and instead became the ultimate high-tech military superpower? The end result is an imaginative and playful vision of an alternate future filled with possibility.

With all the changes, the cooperative mode, the new faction. Red Alert 3 is still for all purposes Red Alert, which can be considered the best and worst. Clearly, the study sought to recapture the spirit of the series, rather than evolve it, so although many fans will be happy, they may also feel some disappointment at the sense of stagnation.

Perhaps the key thing is that the weight of the co-op is not so much as its enormous potential would indicate. It can be great fun, but in practice and in the context of the game upsets the balance, which may be due to the need to reconcile the single player mode with the cooperative.

Riskier projects can make a much more interesting this way opens, yet inclusion in Red Alert 3 is more than welcome. EA LA has created a really fun game with good production values and that will thrill fans of more direct RTS games, but may leave those seeking something more complexity or evolution in the genre cold.

The latest C&C release from EA Games is Command & Conquer Red Alert 3. I purchased the Premier Edition, which gives the owner some great insights, and a DVD video of the making of the game’s movie scenes by the actors.

And of course for all the males there’s a great wall poster of all the very attractive female actors. There were seven in all but of these I loved the British Commanders Assistant Eva the best. Played by Gemma Atkinson she was very pretty, sexy, and yet innocent and cute as a button as they say with her slight accent.

The star filled cast included a cocky but sexy Jenna Jameson as the Allies sexy commando Tanya, Gina Carano as the pretty but deadly Russian sniper commando Tasha and the very attractive Ivana Milicevic as the Russian Commander’s Assistant.

I bought this game as I’ve bought every one of the previous C&C games, and their extension games, going back to the very first one Command & Conquer. The sophistication of the game has greatly improved and none have ever disappointed me although some were better than others.

This one gives a new ability and that’s to go online with a partner to battle against others online. For some this is a great step forward to realism. In the last couple of C&C games you could have an assistant commander who wouldnt fight against you but who would do his own thing on the battlefield fighting against the same opponents as you.

This edition is the first one to allow you to issue commands to your Assistant/Co-Commander. You can also leave his decisions to the AI of the game as well but you can change this at any moment of the game.

This is a huge step forward to truly commanding on a larger scale battlefield with the realism of results that arent completely controlled or executed by your direct orders. One of the main benefits I like about the game is its familiarity to all the previous C&C games.

You don’t have to learn a whole new set of command structures to get playing the game. Like all the previous ones you do need to read up on the different powers and capabilities of each unit as they vary greatly.

And those who are truly savvy C&C Commanders you know how to use many combinations of these with very decisive results that once used against your opponent he just sits there wondering what happened and it’s all over for him! I personally love defeating my opponent early in the game to the point he can’t possibly win and then just having fun with him and practicing new strategies.

A true commander knows when the game really is over, even if he plays on for 30 minutes to an hour just for fun. Another interesting thing about this game is the Premier Edition also delivers the all the game DVDs, all female actor poster and special Premier Edition goodies all in a collectors tin (box).

This is a first for C&C. I had been lucky enough to be picked as a beta tester/player for this game but unfortunately I was unable to find the time to participate. Nonetheless I wasn’t disappointed in the result and am very happy EA Games continues to produce a high quality and exciting C&C game for those of us who have played it for the past decade.

I’m sure I’ll play until they write the final C&C game edition or I pass on to that big C&C battlefield in the sky and I hear a thundering “Welcome Back Commander” as I arrive. seemed to have no difference. and the second disk would not load. had no issues with the first disk. and did not need to use the cd key for the first disk. it did download disk one, but disk two would not.

Awesome classic game. Requires some work with instructions on youtube and forums to play on windows 10 or to play without a CD drive. Need to be a little bit of a hacker. After purchasing the game, I used a No-CD version of the executable from the web and also used an application that runs at the same time called GenTools.

My first C&C Zero Hour disk broke and I need a replacement for it. This PC games is very close to reality combat engagement is awesome. I have spent hours playing. and it speaks for itself. You command and conquer.

It keeps me at the edge of my seat just waiting to see what will happen next. I recommend this PC game to strategy gamer who like to command, lead and need for challenge.

For some reason, it will not play on my husband’s computer, so I play it on mine. I have always loved the game, we got them as they came out, you know one game at a time. This is the 4th Decades game we have gotten.

They seem to sprout legs and walk off. lol (ie my sons love the game as well. ) This one has been a family favorite since the beginning of the games.

Graphics: 87/100 This has games from 1995 to 2003 so the graphics vary but they were excellent graphics when they came out. The only reason I didn’t give it a 100 is because this “technically” is a 2006 game with 2002 graphics.

Game play: 100/100 Red Alert, Tiberian sun, and Red Alert 2 are pretty much the best RTS games you will ever play. Renegade is a rather decent shooter and Generals, although not true to the unique Command and Conquer style of play, is still good compared to other games such as Rise of Nations and Age of Mythology.

Story: 101/100 All the games except Renegade and Generals without the expansion all have live cinematics with many B-actors and special effects. The stories are a sort of cross between Back to the Future, WWII/ Cold War, and a slight hint of Star Trek.

All things considered, the stories are very entertaining and creative. Audio: 97/100 The songs are very good quality and are very catchy. It is a form of techno/rock/metal. All the characters have a diferent voice.

They say things related to their cause such as the Russian super tank saying “Armageddon is here” when selected. Control: 100/100 The controls allow you to make your units have pinpoint strategies laid out and followed.

You can select a unit half way across the map instantly and control armadas with ease. AI: 94/100 The AI is somewhat predictable in its attack routine but with the limited technology of 1995 it is VERY good.

this is an amazing RTS game keeps you on your tows gives you tons of options and you can make the game as easy or as hard as you want tons of maps to chose from and you need to use a differant tactic on each one.

you can even chose the tecnology level. after playing this game for awhile any one can figure out that russia is by far the best country to play as because of the mamouth tanks and because of the tecologicly superror defences.

but it dose not mean you cannot win the game without being russia (although it makes it alot easer) if you are on a map where you have acsess to water and you decide to be the allies you can use gun boats for most of your defences and attacks if possable.

after playing this game many times you can start to guess witch countrys will give you the maximum advantage and it makes it alot easer but you can just as easly stack the odds against you to make the game almost impossable to win.

my recomondation is if you like tanks and RTS games you will love red alert (it is one of my favorite games) and I’m more into RPG’s.

An amazing game for its day. One of the best games ever made for the playstation1. It challenges players, but is not impossible. This game is a must for collectors. I highly recommend getting this game, before they become impossible to get and price skyrockets.

Most will call me very old school for chasing this Game on Ebay. The Retaliation edition of Command and Conquer is the perfect balance of craft and stragety. The head to head aspect of this game has provided multiple hours of enjoyment as you get to pummel your foe into dust.

Yes multiple other games have been made to mimic the style of Retaliation but to me fail to beat the original mechanics of Command and Conquer Retaliation. Get two old playstations and get to kicking some butt.

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is the most recent title from the long running Command and Conquer series, and one which I have been enjoying immensely on the Xbox 360. After producing these strategy games for more than a decade, I’m delighted that this title has taken the much needed steps of balancing and tweaking, allowing the gameplay to be far more faster paced than previous titles, yet still maintain the strategic foundations that has elevated the C&C series into the lofty position it now enjoys.

At its most basic the gameplay takes place thus: You start off with a construction yard and by gathering tiberium, the games source of revenue, quickly build up your base and your army until you are ready to attack and hopefully topple the opposition, who obviously strives towards the same goal.

The excitement and appeal of the game comes from the vast sci-fi battles that rage across the games maps, as infantry, tanks and air units are deployed, buildings are captured and eventually powerful nuclear weapons are fired.

There’s a very real sense throughout the game of tension, due to the fog of war you’re never sure what forces your opponent has, and thus you’re never sure whether to concentrate on creating an attacking force, defending your base or gathering more resources that might give you the upper hand in the battle ahead.

There are three factions to choose from, each providing a different set of units, each excelling in a different area, and it’s up to the player to utilise their chosen factions strengths and pursue victory.

The graphics and sound really are excellent, the cities and countryside the battles take place on are immensely detailed, and all the units look significantly menacing. The sound is straight out of a science fiction movie, and naturally all the units shout signature phrases as you send them into battle, which whilst charged with bravado, never become irritating.

The story is, as with all the Command and Conquer games, the perfect mix between mock serious and utterly ridiculous. With famous characters such as the Bald Man from Star Ship Troopers and Sawyer from Lost, each dressed in a costume somewhere between looking kitsch and looking like a child made it, every character delivers their lines in a hilariously cheesy way, which only adds to the appeal of the game.

Special mention to that guy from Star Ship Troopers, who constantly looks like he’s reading off a card just below the camera. The plot twists and turns like a furious snake, yet manages to remain utter predictable for the most part; that’s not to say it isn’t a good story, all I’m saying is just don’t expect Hollywood performances from these Hollywood actors.

The single player game features multiple campaigns, and the multiple achievements encourage repeat playthroughs, although to gain all the achievements you’re really going to want to get all the secondary objectives.

These were probably included to add more variety to the single player game, but instead what they end up doing is setting you ridiculous challenges that you’d never even bother trying to attain if you weren’t hopelessly addicted to getting all the achievements.

Seriously, some of them are so picky and can be succeeded or failed in the blink of an eye, and when you’re looking at a loading time of about 3 minutes every time you want to load up a saved game, the seemingly random nature of the bonus objectives can end up frustrating the gamer somewhat unnecessarily.

Stealth missions. monstrous base building. non-stop action. Don’t worry that one side is better than the other because you can tell a lot of time and I mean A LOT of time was put into balancing this game out.

Graphics: No matter what your system is this game still looks good from the jet trail of your Vertigo bombers to the tracer rounds of your infantry this game just plain looks gorgeous. Sound: The sounds are good, what you would expect for an RTS, the screams and “Kill them all” screams your squads make as you send them into battle can get repetitive, however the voice acting is wonderful.

Value: More bang for your buck, a undeniable must have. Tilt: Didn’t I say enough already? :Just a few words: This is an in your face action game that will convert you to one side or the other. I started playing NOD right away and I must admit, if the NOD was recruiting today I’d sign up in a heart beat.

The acting and story line is gripping and the campaigns are fun. It’s constantly changing objectives so no two levels are apart. If your given the choice of going after and Air Base or the White house the next level is affected by what you choose.

Say you take out the Air Base, then when you go to the White house level, they lose their air support. You actually feel like you accomplish a mission when moving on the the next. If you actually read all the way here then there is something wrong with you.

You should have been picking up the game after your read about the Gameplay. Tisk tisk, please do yourself a favor and pick up this game.

Good: Just a fun game. If you’re looking to play something to stay entertained for a little while, this is your game. Tiberian Sun is loyal to veterans of the original Command and Conquer in game play and story line.

It has new and unique units from the GDI disc thrower to the NOD tick tank. Path finding, which tends to be a problem with older games, doesn’t seem to be too much of a problem. Bad: The graphics do not match up to some others of it’s time.

Unit motion is not as smooth as games like StarCraft.

Purchased for a family member who’s original copy was damaged. It was brand new & wrapped in original film. He was delighted to receive it as he didn’t expect to find a replacement for a 20 year old game.

Tiberian Sun is one of the best strategy games for any platform, specially for PC. You choose to be either good or bad then will progress on conquering. The most you conquer the better weapons, technology and buildings, you’ll get.

Needed a fast processor like 2. 0 and up. If you ever play Warcraft it is almost the same regarding strategy. Highly recommended!.

For many real time strategy games, the Command and Conquer franchise is something akin to Final Fantasy of the RPG genre or how Madden is to sports; they ARE the standard in their respective genre. Since the mid 1990s Command and Conquer set the bar high on how RTS games should be with building menus, console interface (ever tried to command whole units with just a cumbersome controller?), cut scenes, and story.

Command and Conquer traditionally also have a stellar cast of characters played by big Hollywood actors including James Earl Jones, Michael Beihn, Michael Ironside, Billy Dee Williams, etc. That said, after finishing up the last of the Empire of the Rising Sun (Japanese) campaigns, I am happy to say that Red Alert 3 lives up to the tradition set forth by its predecessors.

For those of you, who are not familiar with Command and Conquer or are a casual gamer, here is what you need to know. Red Alert 3 is a real time strategy game where you, utilizing a bird’s-eye-view, build a base for your faction, raise an army and quell your enemies into proverbial dust.

Simple enough? Well, RTS games are typically for more advanced players but Red Alert 3 has an easy enough interface and, better yet, a multi-part interactive tutorial where the tanks from each faction teach you how to play.

Despite being an avid RTS gamer, I thought I’d utilize the tutorial to see the new changes made to the interface and the gamer score, listening to what they had to say was worth it. Once you have memorized how to play, you’ll realize that Electronic Arts really improved the console interface.

One of the largest problems with RTS games on a console as opposed to a PC is a loss of control. Ever tried to simultaneously command numerous units with a cumbersome controller? It can turn a great game into a nightmare and by that I’m referring to Supreme Commander.

You feel like a lobster with oven mitts on as you would traditionally try to carefully select the units you want, which would necessitate you move individual units first into a staging area to be selected in one group.

Meanwhile, some 14-year-old in Germany is kicking your backside and cursing at you like some demon child in a foreign language. EA considerably simplified the interface by allowing the player to hold down the “A” button and a small green circle appears that the user can move around the battlefield and select any units he or she wishes.

Now, if you want to control a specific kind of unit, while having the units selected you hold the right trigger and a menu pops up allowing you to only select that kind of unit. As opposed to other interfaces, this makes things a LOT less cumbersome.

*On a side note, I have not yet played Kane’s Wrath so I am unfamiliar with their interface so anyone feel free to correct me if they did it first* To makes matters more simplified, EA fixed several issues that have riddled RTS games for well over a decade.

One of them was that in many RTS games if the unit is moving to a location they will blatantly ignore everyone firing at them or plow clean through them. With Red Alert 3, a player can select a fire-move order that allows the unit to engage any unit they encounter along the way but continue once they have eliminated.

Bought “Red Alert 3” for Xbox because we thoroughly enjoyed the entire Command & Conquer series for PC. Unfortunately, C&C on Xbox is not nearly as good. The basic mechanics are the same but getting used to the controls takes a long time for someone who’s a veteran of the PC game.

Graphics are pretty poor for what Xbox is capable of and certainly not comparable to the desktop computer version. This game is not a total loss, especially if you don’t have anything to compare this experience to.

However, chances are you’re interested because you’ve enjoyed C&C before. At the end of the day, if you’ve played C&C on your computer then you’ll probably be disappointed with Red Alert 3 on Xbox. Personally, I would not buy this game again.

Being a fan of the Red Alert franchise for years, I was excited that the game was being ported to the PS3 since I don’t own an Xbox360 nor a grunty computer. The developers certainly put a lot of effort into making this port work and it certainly shows.

The bonus material that was on the LE edition of the PC has made it to the PS3 version so you don’t really feel left out having to wait for this port. The only thing I wish they include in the bonus content was the David “The Hoff” Hasslehoff commercials.

The storyline is still ridiculously cheesy (even cheesier than Red Alert 2), and the gameplay has been ramped up considerably since the last iteration. Each unit his it’s own special abilities, which will used properly will help you destroy your enemies.

Graphics is great in this port as well with no real noticable/gamebreaking slowdowns when the action gets going. There are a few gripes that, while not gamebreaking, certainly affects how you enjoy RTS.

The control system is definitely clunky, and it would take a while to adjust and master if you have played a lot of RTS on the PC with a mouse and keyboard. And you are limited to 50 units you can build so you really need to be careful on what you want to build rather than send it a massive rush of foot soldiers and Apocalpyse Tanks.

There’s a major bug where the audio will just complete cut out, which has been attribute to having dts enabled in the PS3 system so bear this in mind when you play this game. Aside from that, it’s definitely a good game to pick up if you are wanting a little RTS for your PS3.

Loved this game, then lost the disks while moving, picked them up for $13 or so delivered to Canada. At first though I ran into compatibility problems under Win7 x64 – the game after installation would just die.

The solution proved to be updating the video driver, and following advice on http://www. sevenforums. com/gaming/40036-command-conquer-generals-4. html#post983665 :In ‘My Documents’ (usually at C:\users\YOURNAME\documents) there should be a folder named ‘Command and Conquer Generals Data’ or ‘Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data’, which was put there when you installed the game.

You need to create a text file using notepad and save it into this folder. However, you must click ‘save as’ and change the type drop-down box from text file (. txt) to ‘all files’. Then save the file as ‘options.

ini’. That’s all. No changing mode to XP-compatibility was required.

I love this game and on the Mac it is better than on the pc that I had. I hope you have the same experience that I had. (Just a reminder. install the patch first. then the full game. ).

No need to clarify what C&C has made in the world of RTS genre. C&C Kane’s Wrath, the expansion to Tiberium Wars is an excellent game as an enhancement tot the already existing great game. However, I found that the single player campaign to be only for NOD and that lowered my experience with the Tiberium universe.

Aside from 10+ missions which clearly didn’t hold any relevant connection to the previous game and more importantly no connection that could rise to C&C4’s (which is on its way but looks awaful as C&C game) storyline, it seemed to me that EA tried to earn some more cash buy releasing an expansion without giving much thought to broadening the horizon in the Tiberium universe.

Overall, with new units to play as this game is worth collecting for C&C lovers. However, there ARE MODS OUT THERE that allow for excellent C&C Kane’s wrath experience using only C&C TIBERIUM WARS; these mods are total conversion and are great to use.

One of them gave me a taste of what I might expect in C&C Kane’s Wrath. So check those mods out. And buy it, being on PC, and cheaper, what more could anyone ask?.

One of the best command and conquer games ever created, especially via multi player! Great graphics, great balance (once you’ve run the online update) Drawbacks: It is aging and not many people play it anymore, so the online aspect of it is quite limited.

Since there is also no support for it any longer, it is hard to get it to work via lan sometimes, may require GameRanger for network play to work correctly. Also it requires the CD to be in the computer to run, which is lame, but thats how things were back in 2008.

Other than that drawback it is awesome.

This is a great expansion game with new great options. The new Global Conquest is a good and diferent way to battle the manage the game. They are three options with each of the three opponents. Kane’s Wrath features a “Risk-like” gameplay mode called “Global Conquest”, where players build and control their forces from a strategic, global level with the goal of either destroying all enemies or completing their side’s alternate victory objective.

Instead of the traditional Command & Conquer RTS gameplay, the mode uses a turn-based system where the player issues higher-level orders such as “build a base here” (to have the computer automatically build a base with preset structures) or “upgrade this base” (to have the computer automatically perform multiple structure upgrades on a base); the orders execute at the end of a turn and the other sides then get theirs.

Combat in this mode occurs whenever two opposing forces collide on the world map; the battle can either be played traditionally (as a standard real-time C&C game) or be automatically resolved by the computer using the forces’ relative strengths Thanks.

This expansion pack is a must have for Command and Conquer fans. The expansion pack introduces Yuri’s army with his unique mind control abilities and bizzar weapons. You can start a campaign with Yuri and help him in his goal to bring the world under his control or you can play as the allies or soviets as they battle not only eachother but have to fight this new enemy that has emerged.

Tons of new weapons are added to both the allies and the soviets as well as new technologies to help you better protect your base and crush you enemies. Skirmishies are updated with several new maps to take your command abilities to the limit (King of the Hill being the most extreme).

This expansion gives you everthing you could want plus a few extra twists you wont see coming. Get this expansion and take your game to the next level.

Granted it’s quite dated, but this game still holds up today. For the time in which it was released the graphics are solid, gameplay/storyline is great, and the overall value is very high. I recommend for anyone who’s into RTS games.

C&C and RA2/YR in particular are of the few quintessential series/games in the RTS genre.

I’ve been playing this game since it came out. This is the third time I’ve had to buy it because I’ve just worn out the first two sets of discs! It’s a shame they kind of lost the plot after this one but with red alert 2 as well to play I can keep playing a good few more years yet.

Good vintage game shooter, graphics are good enough, dont think higher video resolutions would improve the enjoyment. As you advance in the game there is little time to look around, NOD keeps coming at you from all angles.

The story line, yes there are some missions/tasks to complete but basically it is shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Entertaining and not too involved, lots of fun. Works great with Windows 7.

Early war type game plenty of action. Plenty of different weapons. you get to drive many vehicles including tanks. The graphics are blocky but very good for that time. very playable

This first person shooter is an awesome game! My son, wife and myself all have this game installed and battle online in multiplayer mode. This game was ahead of its time when it first hit the market and is fully customizable through the use of add-on maps, custom sounds and scripts, and even complete mod packs.

Be the first to pick either NOD or GDI and head into the battlefield with a complete arsenal of cool weapons and armored vehicles. Destroy the enemies buildings or place a beacon on the pedestal to win the game! You won’t be disappointed in this game.

If you’re reading a review for Final Fantasy 2 for the SNES, then odds are good you’re Gen X like me. This is the stuff we grew up with, and the story today is just as fun and engaging to play through as it was nearly 30 years ago.

And the colours draw you in like you’re 12 all over again. It’s so much more enjoyable to have the legit cartridge to play on. Something like that just adds a touch of nostalgia that is hard to match with an emulator on your PC or something else.

I give this game 5 stars because it’s not only a great piece of history, but because it’s simple and straightforward story feels elegant and timeless. It’s easily a top-5 best ever game for the SNES.

Although i bought this game out of pure nostalgia, I was nothing like the PC version. That doesn’t reflect back on DKOldies at all because the game was in great shape and started on the first power up.

I was just disappointed in the content. but after all, we are talking about N64 graphics in a time where they produced so many games after just breaking the 2D barrier.

I love the Westwood Command & Conquer series, and I got it for the N64 simply because of my past affinity with the PC games. The gameplay is nearly identical to the PC versions, however it cuts out many of the video clips to save memory on the cartridges, and the graphics are relatively low quality unless you have the N64 RAM expansion pak.

Overall, the game is playable, and brings back the nastalgia of the war-time strategy game, however I would rather play it with a mouse and keyboard than a handheld controller. Specifically, the design of the game is still as if it were a PC game in that there is still a mouse icon which you control with the N64 joystick, which is relatively awkward and not nearly as precise as using a mouse on a computer.

Several of the PC’s most popular RTS games have made their way to various console systems, but all of them suffer from the same basic flaws: lower resolution and shoddy control. Command & Conquer for the N64 almost manages to get around both of these problems, and while the resulting game is good, there are still a few little clunky things that get in the player’s way.

The game’s storyline, told through your mission briefings, is reasonably deep and pretty entertaining. While the full-motion video briefings of the other versions have been scrapped in favor of a slideshow of pertinent images, the audio is intact.

So, depending on which faction you choose, you’ll hear things from either a GDI (read: GI Joe-like good guys) or a Brotherhood of NOD (read: Cobra-esque bad guys) perspective. Each faction has its own worldview, its own various structures, and its own set of troops.

Each faction does have different-looking vehicles and buildings, but do just about the same thing for their side. There are definitely differences, but the game is pretty balanced, so there really isn’t any one super weapon on either force.

Like just about every other RTS game in the world, this game is a tale of resource management. To build more structures and train enough troops to roll over your enemies, you must maintain a positive cash flow.

You earn money by harvesting Tiberium – a mineral that rises to the planet’s surface, forming dangerously toxic fields full of cash. Harvest enough of it, and you can build everything from basic machine-gun troopers to complex flying machines, flame tanks, and death-dealing obelisks.

Come up short, and you can sell some buildings for quick influxes of cash, but this is usually a last-ditch tactic. Just make sure nothing happens to your harvester, and don’t attack until you’ve got enough military might to crush your enemy two or three times, and you should be just fine.

Those of you who have seen the other console versions of Command & Conquer are probably expecting this version to look the same as the other versions, complete with flat, blocky 2D sprites that are run in a resolution far too low to be discernable.

But the terrain, buildings, and vehicles in the N64 version of C&C are done entirely in 3D, giving an all-new look to the game. This, combined with the expansion pack, lets you run in a higher resolution, which makes figuring out if you’re looking at a minigunner or a grenadier a bit easier.

If you still can’t tell what you’re looking at, the camera is slightly controllable, allowing you to zoom in or out a little bit. It would have been nice if the game ran at a resolution that would let you keep the map and building screen open at all times, since constant monitoring of your radar map is a key tactic in the game.

Without the expansion pack, you’re limited to the standard medium resolution. It looks nice, but it’s a bit too blocky for my tastes. The game’s speed and frame rate vary slightly throughout the game, depending on how much action you’ve got on the screen.

At the beginning of a level, when you don’t really have anything uncovered, scrolling is incredibly speedy, almost to the point of being too fast. finish review at above website.

Owned this game on Xbox 360, but lost it when it got the ring of death. When Xbox One went backwards on it, i had to buy it again!

What I Like: I love RTS games, so that is the main reason I purchased this item. What I dislike: Short, and a cliff hanging ending. And you only play as one faction in the story. Lame. What I Love: N/A Personal opinion: 4 out of 10 – Its fun for the story and all, but its nothing more then Command / Conquer 3 TW with a bit more units.

But taking out all the other factions killed it for me. Rent this game, buying is probably a waste of money unless you collect all the games.

Because I have been playing with Game for Over 20+ yrs and I find the Graphics as Good as the 1st Day I bought the Game.

This expansion pack is really great. It adds on 30 new units, 20 new upgrades, and a few new buildings. There is also a new ability to play as nine different generals, three for each civilization, each with special strengths and weaknesses.

This adds a new level of strategy to the game. In additions, there is an all new generals campaign. The gameplay itself has been slightly tweaked, now there is the ability to double click to tell a unit to attack move.

There are also a couple other changes. I have heard that this pack also slightly improves the graphics, adding more particles to explosions, and making it look a little more realistic. I haven’t noticed a significant change in the overall graphics, but I mostly play this instead of Generals, so I can’t positively say that there aren’t some changes in the quality of the graphics.

All in all, I think this is a well worthwhile expansion pack to buy.

I really like this game. Graphics are pretty good, sounds are decent, and the combat music soundtrack is great. Gameplay-wise, the tactical combat is very thought-provoking. You really have to pay attention and make smart choices to win.

In games like Starcraft or Command and Conquer, you can make all the soldiers you want – if they die, big deal. In XCOM however, your soldiers gain abilities and better stats as they level up, and it becomes absolutely critical to keep your best people alive and well-equipped.

Making stupid decisions that get your best soldiers killed will make victory nearly impossible. There is no revive chamber for the deceased – just a memorial wall. In comparison with the old XCOM, I think Firaxis did a great job of keeping the series true to its roots, but cleaned up alot of problems with it, as well as bringing it up to modern technological expectations.

The old XCOM was absolutely brutal in terms of difficulty. This game is more forgiving – or more accurately, gives the user more control over the difficult of the game. For hardcore XCOM fans, you can play on Impossible Mode with Ironman enabled (Ironman mode does not permit multiple saves and continuously autosaves your game forcibly – no do-overs allowed!).

My biggest gripe isn’t really with any of the core game aspects. The biggest problem with the game is that it is, to be blunt, buggy. I’ve had problems with the grapple hook flinging my guys all the way across the map.

The game camera will sometimes behave oddly, darting off into nowhere-land. The enemy turn will sometimes cause a lock-up, and you will need to reset the game to continue. There are also problems where enemies (and your own people, to be fair) can miraculously shoot through solid objects, which rationally would appear to obstruct their line-of-sight to the target.

This sometimes leads to lucky kills, or unlucky dead squad mates. *some spoilers here below* While difficulty and challenge are healthy aspects of a good game, I think the game does not “transition” its difficulty well.

To be honest, the game is rather simple and easy until the alien base mission where you must fight the Sectoid Commander. This mission is brutal, and afterwards, the kid gloves come off. The game suddenly becomes much more difficult.

I like some of the artistic changes they made. In the old XCOM, the Mutons look somewhat like the Neo-Sapiens from the old cartoon show Exo-Squad. Basically, muscular purple humanoids. However, now the Mutons are large, burly, gorilla-esque monstrosities.

They are very convincing and plausible as alien shock troops. I think the game designers lacked creativity in the dissections and interrogation scenes. They could have injected some good humor (or interesting back story) into these scenes with a little more effort.

I still remember the first time I played UFO: Enemy Unknown (back before they put X-COM in the title), since it was one of the first PC games I ever bought. The vast scale of the alien menace meant that you had to struggle to respond to threats across the world with your meagre resources.

The unfair balance of power, with the aliens wielding far greater firepower and armour than your poor soldiers. The feeling of loss as the handful of veterans that you have managed to train up eventually get killed.

All of this is still true in X-COM and I admire how they kept true to the spirit of the game, whilst updating all of the issues with the dynamics and interface that make 90s games so hard to play. I especially like the inclusion of an Ironman mode – although it is not for the feint-hearted as even on the lowest difficulty your memorial will quickly fill up with the names of soldiers you have lost.

I am still playing my first game, and although I have lost a huge number of soldiers, it still doesn’t feel impossible to win, but it is pretty tricky. The combat is still turn based, but is much faster paced than the original due to the smaller squad sizes and more streamlined action systems.

Most of the old villains are back, but are redesigned to look even more menacing (and the chrysalids are still terrifying). A lot of the micromanagement from the base design was stripped out, since you only have to manage one base, and don’t need to worry about defensibility any more (although I do miss being able to defend the base you built against alien assault like in the previous games).

But I am in the minutiae, as a whole the game is great. The aliens are formidable, but not insurmountable. Despite having no scripting or background you can grow very attached to your squad members (at least until they die).

And above all, it is so engrossing I struggle to pull myself away from the game – like many a Firaxis game I am just thinking one more turn, just one more turn).

A great remake of the original Xcom: Enemy Unknown, however the graphics are now looking a little dated. After playing Xcom 2 you do notice things like the graphics and the lack of personality in the soldiers.

There are a couple of other niggles (like having to manufacture the right number of plasma rifles), but that does stem from this being such a good remake of the original so its easy to forgive.

Don’t get me wrong this is a good game but if you’ve played the eariler PC or ps1 C&C you may be a little disapointed. In my opinion those eariler games are slightly better than this one which I wasn’t expecting.

I thought a newer updated version would outshine them all. However there is lots of new features, fighting on the sea, unit special abilities and more. It’s definitely worth getting if your a C&C fan.

I’d give it a 4. 5 if I could. Just throwing that out there. Okay, well, I love RTS games. I own every Command & Conquer and a bunch of other RTS’s. I won’t compare this to the PC games because that isn’t fair.

PC controls are going to be better and the game’s gonna be smoother. For a console, though, I cannot think of a way they could have made the controls better. Sure, they’re a bit complicated, but that’s the way it should be.

RTS controls should never be over simplified (ahem. Halo Wars). It’s an insult to RTS fans, but I’ll save that for my Halo Wars review. Once you get the hang of the controls, which may take a little practice, they work great.

It’s much improved from Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. The story is classic Red Alert. Silly, amusing and entertaining. Some Soviets go back in time and kill Eistein before the secrets of atomic bombs spreads.

This prevents the Allies from having that fire power, but also allows the Empire of the Rising Sun to come to power to challenge the Allies and Soviets. The cutscenes are awesome. When I first watched them, I saw the Soviet scientist and said, “He looks and sounds so familiar.

” It bugged me for a week before I figured it out. He’s the Russian cosmonaut from Armageddon. Awesome. There are other stars too. The gameplay is just. AWESOME! You have a co-commander to aid you in the campaign.

He will build his base on his own and do basic things on his own, but you command him. You can tell him to attack somewhere and he’ll build up a force and attack there. It’s great. The skirmishes aren’t as fun as Red Alert 2, but they’re still entertaining and can keep you busy for hours.

I was sad when EA turned Westwood Studios into EA Los Angeles, causing most of the Westwood employees to leave and make Petroglyph, but EA Los Angeles has done a good job keeping Red Alert 3 feeling like a Red Alert game.

I give it a 9 out of 10.
