A clear ice cube maker is a machine that creates large, clear ice cubes. Clear ice cubes are made by freezing water slowly, so that no air bubbles are trapped in the ice. This process results in a denser, harder ice cube that melts more slowly than a traditional ice cube.
When it comes to making crystal-clear ice, the Newair 45 lbs. Countertop ice maker is the ultimate in versatility. This Newair technology creates ice in layers, which keeps air bubbles and other impurities from getting trapped in your ice.
Frozen layers also provide the perfectly clear ice that cocktail aficionados crave: It melts more slowly and creates less fizz in your handcrafted drink. Controls let you choose exactly how thick you want the cubes and how fast you want the ice.
Convenience features abound, making it a snap to get the perfect ice cube for any occasion.
Six years ago we remodeled a room in our house to be a full time bar, and because we had no water hook up in it, we have struggled with the ice situation in there ever since. We tried using coolers, ice buckets, and even sending our guests back and forth to the kitchen for ice, usually resulting in a wet mess all over the floors.
I was very excited to get this Newair Countertop Ice Maker home and have not been disappointed with it. It’s visually beautiful with its shiny stainless finish, the ice is uniform and clear, and it is so compact it actually fits into my bar cabinet with zero issues.
I love the BPA-free parts and the fact that the ice does not have any strange chemical smell or taste that is very common from ice molds and trays. I haven’t tried the self-cleaning function out yet but that is definitely a bonus in an appliance like this.
I find it hard to name anything that I don’t like about this ice maker other than there is an audible noise from it while its running – it is a compressor after all. It is less noisy than my fridge and when its not actively producing ice it is completely quiet.
Overall, I am thrilled with this ice maker. Ice is so important in any bar – both for drink temperature and to properly dilute cocktails. Making martinis or adding a few cubes of ice to some whiskey used to be a process and now its effortless and convenient.
it’s so simple to use. pour water into it. turn it on and choose how thick you want your ice and watch it make ice! at the default setting it makes a batch of ice approximately every 15 minutes. to make the ice a solid cube, it takes about 20 minutes.
the ice is CLEAR. my kids love watching the machine make ice. it’s like a Hershey’s chocolate bar but made of ice. 45lbs of ice a day is a lot. no more buying ice when I go on road trips. one thing I did notice is that the machine doesn’t turn off when I press the power button.
even when I hold it down for 10 seconds it does not turn off. the compressor just stops running and then I pull the power cord.
We received ours about a week and a half ago. We love it. It fits great on our counter does not take up too much room, The set up was very easy. The ice cubes are perfect, my entire family uses that ice instead of the crushed ice from our refrigerator.
My 11 year old can refill the water when necessary. That is how easy it is. The only thing I would change is the ice scooper. It is hard to scoop the ice up with the one that comes with it. Either the scooper is to flimsy or the actual scoop is not large enough.
However, that is so minimal- I would not that deter you from using purchasing this ice maker. I have wanted one for so long and this is perfect. I am super happy.
Simply plug and play. It’s capable of producing up to 28 lbs. of clear, restaurant-quality ice per day. • Capable of producing up to 28 lbs. of ice daily. Low water and full ice alerts to let you know when the unit needs maintenance.

I’ve had this unit for a little over year. This is a good product providing clear iced. The machine does it’s job day in and day out. Recently it stop working. I contacted the company and from day one till end they were extremely helpful.
Quickly they agreed to replace the unit even-tough it’s out of warranty. I would recommend this product, makes great crystal clear ice. If you drink expensive liquor such as high end whiskey you must get this machine.
As specially the company has great customer service support.
My new puppy loves ice, as do we for our cocktails! Every time we go to open our new ice maker, the pup is right there, looking for his treat and is never disappointed. There is always an abundance of clear ice to be had as long as we keep the water reservoir full, which is no problem with the light system letting us know when it is empty.
Very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone.
Great size for my kitchen and my needs for always having just the amounts I want for parties and daily use. My friends like me bringing ice for our get togethers Best machine I have found for my needs.
Elizabeth was so helpful. professional and follow through from start to ensure I got my machine. Fast shipping process too!! Everything about Newair is number one!!.
Clear Ice Mold Say goodbye to watered-down whiskey. The Clear Ice Mold makes one crystal-clear ice cube through a unique slow-freezing process, which melts slower than your typical ice cubes. It’s perfect for chilling your favorite spirit or cocktail without the danger of over-diluting the drink.
I previously owned the Neat Ice Kit by studio Neat which was a very similar concept to this. However, the W&P Ice mold is WAY easier to use and gets a cleaner cut of ice every time. My only gripe so far is that sometimes the ice remains cloudy at the bottom.
However it fits my DOF glasses perfectly and produces great quality ice with a Brita filter. Could not recommend highly enough.
With the ice makers made of 100% premium silicone, not only clear ice cubes can be produced. The transparent lid ensures a clean and hygienic freezing of water, juices, sauces, baby food, etc. The clear ice cubes are too boring for you? From now on you can serve your drinks like a professional.
Visual highlights are ice cubes in which flowers, fruits or herbs have been frozen. Why not fill fruit juice into the Lurch Ice Cubes? Your spritzer or juice is cooled and not diluted.

I purchased this for my wife as a Xmas present to use in our RV. We did set it up to give it a run thru, before we use it this spring camping. It works great and is worth the money so far. The only thing that we noticed, is it takes exactly 20 mins to make a full batch of ice(thick cubes).
They say it takes as little as 13 mins to make ice, I think that maybe for thinner ice cubes. They are on the wet side, so we transferred them to our freezer as soon as they dropped into the basket. We didn’t wait to see how long they would stay in the basket without transferring them to the freezer.
That will come when we go on our first camping trip this spring. As to the how loud it is, its fairly quiet but we haven’t tried it while sleeping in the RV. I will say in comparison to a room A/C unit, its much quieter.
One thing I wish, is that since it can make ice that it can keep it as ice in the basket. I know this is all going to be up to the temperature of the room its sitting in. Hopefully this was helpful and sorry we didn’t get a chance to run it thru its full paces, in different environments.
NewAir’s advanced design makes sure you get the clearest, longest-lasting ice possible by passing water over chilled rods to keep air out. The resulting crystal-clear ice cubes will enhance any drink.

Taking a look at the @newairusa Clear ice 40. 🧊 A Clear ice making machine that pumps out perfectly see through ice 40 pounds a day. Setup was ridiculously easy. Just run some luke warm water and a soft cloth to wipe the interior down.
Fill the reservoir with water and hit the power button. It’s literally that easy. I have been using it for a few days now and it produces about 3 and a 1/2 pounds of ice every 2 hours. The only con I can really see with it is when the ice drops it stays together.
You just give it a little love tap with the provided scoop and it separates rather easy. I’ve made a ton of different drinks with it and the ice seems to last longer than the cubes my my refrigerator makes and obviously they’re better looking.
Speaking of looks I really like the fact that it has a stainless steel body and is easy to clean. I think the overall design was very well-thought-out and I’m happy to have this for an addition to the bar room.
I feel I’m going to have this thing running 24 hours A-day with all the drinks coming out of this house. If you guys are in the market for one I would definitely suggest giving this a look. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Hope you all have a great weekend. Hopefully we will see you all on Thursday. Cheers all! 🥃.
I’ve only had this machine a couple weeks now and used it about 4 days in that amount of time. So far it’s worked perfectly. From start up to first ice has ranged from 30-45 mins then about every 10 mins after that.
The ice is very similar to that you find in most hotel machines. I have it on a counter in my washroom and it’s pretty quiet. I docked it one star because for the 1 con I have for it. A full cleaning it takes a bit of time.
The opening to the reservoir is small and hard to get my hand in there to give it a good wipe down. The ice dump compartment is easier to access but still small. There are two small filters that have to be removed and the bottom drain lays horizontally at the bottom of the machine.
You have to tip the unit to get it to drain the final bit of water out. Then you have to run vinegar/water through it making one tray of ice then empty and run another batch of clean water to flush. It’s not hard just time consuming.
So, docking it one star may or may not be fair since this is the only ice machine I’ve owned. Others may be easier or harder to clean. How will it hold up over the next few years? Don’t know but if I can get 5 years with out issues I’d be thrilled.
This is a fantastic ice maker! It makes crystal clear ice quickly, is easy to clean, and has a small footprint on my countertop. The ice that my refrigerator makes is not clear – it has tiny air bubbles and impurities trapped inside the ice, so when using it, it makes carbonated drinks fizz to the point they go flat before I start to drink them.
The Newair Clearice40 is a completely different story! The ice is so clear, you can barely see it in a cocktail, and carbonated drinks do not fizz at all. I can’t say enough good things about this product.
If you like crystal clear martinis, and other drinks, this is well worth the investment!.
Pre-Owned — LifePlus portable devices will keep your drinks cool! This home ice maker can make ice in just 7 minutes and can produce 26 pounds of ice per day. The observation window allows you to watch the ice making process.
The LED lighting control panel allows you to choose between small or large ice cubes, while remingding you add water and the ice basket is full. Suitable for pool parties, family bars, dormitories, offices, etc.

√ Easy operation and LED indication. √ 2 ice sizes optional. Popular bullet-shaped ice, not easy to melt and stick together. √ Large transparent cover allows you to directly see the ice making process.
Loved my ice machine until I didnt. This worked great for the first 8 month’s then the sensors stopped working so it never stopped making ice causing overflow. Then the tray that holds the water stopped working.
Reach out to seller and they never responded. When I finally reached the company I had to ship the unit to them with no reimbursement for shipping. Shipping cost more then just buying a mew one. This was my second ice machine, different brands but both stopped working as it reached the one year mark.
Be prepared to buy a new one unless you dont plan on using it very much. Cleaning these are also very difficult and if not done weekly or right you’ll have mold growing. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE these machines because I have a bad habit of chewing Ice but they just don’t last long.
I absolutely love this ice maker! It was soo easy to get started. The directions are simple and the ice is perfect. My kids have watched it make ice for hours. Every six minutes it makes ice in 2 different sizes, small or large.
They are not huge pieces, just perfect for drinks and kids to eat! Affordable and works amazing!.

I did not know that they had home, countertop ice makers until I went to see my uncle when he 1st moved back to Colorado. He had one and it was like the most awesome small kitchen appliance. Well I found out where to buy one and I loved it for about a year.
Then it started making terrible noises and the ice tasted nasty. So I decided to get a new one. Found this one on Amazon and it was a great price. Well not only was it a great price but the ice crunches just like Sonic ice does.
I eat the ice several times a day and from this machine, it taste amazing and doesn’t try to shatter my teeth LOL I haven’t figured out how to do the self-cleaning yet. I’ve had it for a few months but I knew were moving, so I was gonna wait until we got settled in the new place and try to clean it.
All in all I love this machine and I hope everyone else does too.
This was actually an impulse buy as we didn’t even know they made these. After complaining about all the ice we made this summer, forgetting to refill trays, etc, we ran across these. Since there were several brands that basically looked the same, we chose this one.
It have been extremely useful. It’s fast and easy to use. We use spring water from the store (You can get at least 3 fill-ups from the larger bottles) and find that one of those fill-ups can last 2 people several days.
When you need more, just fill and let it run until it tells you it needs more water. Put the ice in a gallon size bag and put it in the freezer. No more trays, spilling water on the way to the fridge, etc.
The only complaint is when it has produced all it can from the fill-up, it says to not let the remaining water stay in the machine but to dump it out. There’s a fair amount of water left – so you have to take the machine to the sink, then turn it over and dump it.
The machine isn’t exactly light. Plus, with the bottled water, we pour it into a bowl to put back in the bottle (It leaves a pretty good size bowl of water when the light goes on – maybe 12-16oz?) A small hose in the back to drain it would make things much simpler.
I just love this machine. Its a game changer. No more ice trays filling up my freezer. Now i just have a big tub full of ice in my freezer that i can replenish quickly. I also purchased a box of 2 gallon ziplock bags on walmart.
com that i can use and re-use to put ice in my coolers (i prefer to keep ice in the bag and not loose in the cooler so i have clean ice for mixed drinks and a dry cooler). i’m reducing plastic waste by not buying ice in plastic bags as i can get a lot of uses out of one plastic ziplock bag.
I was intimidated at first but this thing is simple to use. 1. let it sit for a few hours before you plug it in so the refrigerant can settle back into the compressor. 2. wipe it clean on the inside, all surfaces.
3. plug it in and fill the well with water just below the ice basket level. 4. the machine will fill the basket in about 1. 5 hours. I usually shake off any excess water and dump the ice from the basket in my freezer.
i will add more water to the machine at this time but usually it will fill the ice basket 2 or 3 times before requiring water to be added. 5. the unit will run and use about 100w when its running but when the ice basket fills it turns itself off and remains dormant until the basket is emptied.
I think, but not sure, its not using any power or very little during these times. 6. it claims 26 lbs of ice per day. I’m not sure how much it really makes but it makes a LOT of ice so i dont doubt these claims.
Of course for this to happen you will empty the basket every 1. 5 hours and add more water about every 2nd or 3rd dumping of the ice basket. 7. there will always be some standing water in the bottom of the ice well.
that water should be drained off when the machine is not in use and wiped dry. there is a drain plug down there to drain out this water. I only plug my ice machine in on the weekends when i’m around to monitor it and dump out the ice.
I can easily make a weeks worth of ice in one day. To address some of the complaints on this item: 1. “the unit leaks water from the bottom”. fix. did you make sure the drain plug is installed before adding water? 2.
” the ice is watery” fix. the first batch of ice is watery as the unit is warm and its not quite cold yet. after about 30 or 40 minutes, the ice is solid. there is always some water on the ice and i shake off that ice before i dump the contents into the freezer.
if your ice is still too watery, how hot is your house? If you are making ice outside on a summer day you will have watery ice. 3. ” ice is too thin” fix. yes, the ice has a center hole that doesn’t go all the way through so its not a solid cube of ice.
because its greater surface area it will melt faster, but it also gets drinks colder faster. Its also easier to chew if you or your dogs like to chew ice. I find these cubes a huge improvement over my ice tray cubes and i was doubtful that would be the case.
This is a really good kitchen gadget for those without a freezer that makes ice. Even if your freezer makes ice you probably wont be able to keep up with the output of this machine if you want to make a lot of ice.
I would recommend this item and will rebuy it if i ever need another one. Regarding the self-cleaning function, i assume it works but i’m not sure how but it takes about 30 minutes to complete the cycle.
There must be some water in the machine for this to work. I presume it has a heating feature and repeatedly sucks in water and pumps it through the system to descale the mineral deposits on the internal tubing.
Combining modern design and fast functionality, this ice machine will put an end to finding empty ice cube trays in your freezer! CUBE ICE, FAST – Using quality-built compressor cooling, this cube ice maker creates 2.

SMART ICE MAKER – An intuitive LCD screen indicator lets you know the current status of your ice maker – whether it’s actively making ice, is in standby mode because it’s full of ice, or if it’s waiting for more water.
The clear viewing lets you see how much ice is available. EASY TO USE – Adding water is simple and easy. Fill the water reservoir up to the clearly marked fill line and the ice maker will draw from the reservoir to make your new ice fast.
MODERN ICE MAKING – Don’t let your next poolside drink or evening whiskey go without ice! For parties, daily family use, RV camping, office break rooms, and much more! The Deco Chef 40LB Ice Maker will reliably create consistent, clear, and clean ice – it’s time to ditch the trays!.
From day one the size make her only made about 33 pounds of ice in 24 hours. After 15 months of gentle use it finally quit working and it was passed my one year warranty so I hired a technician to come out.
He knew exactly what it was he said every unit that he has ever worked on leaks the coolant or refrigerant after about 15 months. It’s not worth $500 since it will cost me $250 to have it fixed. But what do you expect since it is made in China.
This product was great. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, whether you own a freezer with a ice maker or not. Enough ice is made in less than 10 minutes for at least 2 cups or more. Perfect size cubes.
Holds about a half gallon of water and takes up very little space. EVERYONE should have one.
It’s never been easier to make “bar quality” clear ice at home! Ice-ology removes impurities and bubbles during the freezing process, resulting in crystal clear ice for your beverages This tray makes two oversized clear ice cubes, each measuring 1.

So, my husband and I visited a whiskey bar in Hood River, Oregon called Whiskey Tango. They gave him a perfect glass of rye with a crystal clear square ice cube. We were notably impressed and I began my quest.
Behold, the Grommet! Iceology has figured out how to work this magic and we gleefully harvest our gorgeous cubes when we need a wee nip of whiskey.
But, the results are also better. I have tried several competitive brands and Ice-ology is the easiest to use. My wife gets the spheres and I get the cube from the lower section. We have a small dedicated clear cube icemaker, but this is more fun’.
I bought this for my son-in-law and he’s not easily impressed but he loves this! He even set an alarm in the middle of the night to get up and check to see if it was clear! My daughter was not happy but he was! Love it!!.
I’ve been using this machine a couple times a weeks for about two months. The biggest perk for our family has been ease of use – dump a pitcher of water in, press the power button and wait a few minutes for the first batch to drop.
that’s it. The Newair fills our freezer bin in less than an hour and one pitcher is usually sufficient. The unit is audible, but not too loud, it doesn’t alter conversation level and is about the same volume as the compressor on our refrigerator anyway.
The design is nice and it is light enough to move around on the counter. The drain is located on the left side, and I usually slide the unit over to the edge of the counter, then remove the drain cap and drain the basin into a pitcher when not in use so the unit stays fresh and clean.
I would have liked for the drain to have a ball valve possibly as I worry that over years of use the plastic cap and plug may wear down or become lost, but it is something I have been meaning to add anyway.
Also, the lid could use a slightly more pronounced handle as every once in a while I will let the 1/4″ wide handle tab slip and the lid slams down. Minor issues. Overall, the unit has worked great, and when we have contacted NewAir support with questions, they have replied promptly and helped us keep our unit running great.
We have the Ice Maker for about a week. Once settled in (after the two hour settle in period before plugging in and two batches of ice, after cleaning), we are getting medium ice “bullets” at about once ever 4 to 5 minutes.
We have it set up in the kitchen as this is a replacement for our in fridge ice maker which stopped working for the third time in 15 years. We found that this ice maker could be a little noisy, not to bad but it does make you turn the volume up some if your are listening to something like the TV or Radio.
This is not the ice dropping but cooling unit/fan noise. We do not have to have the ice maker on for more that three hours so I turn it on when we start for bed. After an 90 minutes the tray is full (the same time the dog needs to go out) and I empty the tray into a gallon bag and place in the freezer.
After another 90 minutes (last call for the dog), we have our second tray full which I bag, place in the freezer and then turn the ice maker off. The two gallon bags of ice is good for one day around here.
SO, it is quick but a little noisy and it seems to be doing what we need it to do.
My family of four uses a lot of ice. This unit is a great supplement to our inadequate fridge ice maker. We leave it running all day and periodically transfer ice to the fridge dispenser for those that prefer crushed.
The portability is great for pool parties–just pick it up and move it outside so guests don’t have to go back and forth into the house. No more bags of ice for snow cones. We do still buy ice when using our large 80 quart rolling cooler for big parties, but we don’t have to worry about saving drink ice.
Every 7 minutes a new batch is ready and that usually is plenty to keep up with demand at a party. The only con is it is noisier than a fridge unit. We keep ours in the kitchen and it can be annoying when the ice drops at night, so we usually turn it off before bed.
This beautiful stainless steel freestanding or built-in application ice machine produces up to 110lbs of clear hard cube-shaped ice per day, a bin capacity of 24lbs, and has an 11 to 18 min ice making cycle.
It is the perfect option for any home scenario. This ice maker features completely automatic operation and makes clean. A free-standing installation will allow you to install the ice maker in any place you desire, provided you have access to a water supply and a drain.
A recessed installation will allow you to install the ice maker under a counter or in a kitchen cabinet if you have the required clearance space around the ice maker.
I was concerned at first about the side got it the house unpacked it turned it on made my first tray of ice and actually Im in love with this machine works great for backyard parties filling up ice chest if you make enough the night before and overall just everyday ice.

It’s a bit noisier than I would like. Was wanting to place in our bonus room that has a wet bar, but it would be just too noticeable there. If it’s in a secluded kitchen or something then it probably wouldn’t be too bad.
But what’s nice about this is that the ice on the bottom continuously melts and recycles into new ice. This has the benefit of there being no OLD ice (you know, the nasty freezer burn kind). As long as you keep the inside clean, all ice tastes fresh.
You simply pour more water over the existing ice when you need to refill, the water will create new ice and place it on top, pushing the older ice to the bottom to melt and be remade into new again. I assume the area creating new ice is the only part of the system below freezing, so pouring water over the existing ice doesn’t necessarily melt all the ice together since it’s all (very slowly) melting anyway.
It may seem counterintuitive to allow your ice to constantly melt, but the concept actually works very well and as long as you refill it properly you can get a lot of ice from it.
We love this little ice maker so far! Easy to operate and starts making ice really quickly. We are looking forward to using this in our camper. There’s a slight difference between the small and large size ice bullets but that’s not a big deal to us.

Sono molto soddisfatto. L’unico inconveniente è che si può riempire manualmente il grande serbatoio, per cui è necessario collegarlo alla rete idrica. Sono felice di raccomandare questo prodotto.
Make the switch from hard ice cubes to soft, crunchy, restaurant-style ice with the GE Profile Opal Ice Maker. This countertop unit produces chewable ice nuggets that are ideal for chilling cocktails, sodas and other beverages.
Equipped with a water tank on the side for maximum capacity, the ice maker keeps a constant supply of pellet ice on hand, recirculating melted ice to make even more. Wi-Fi functionality is built into the machine, so you can request fresh ice from your smartphone and have it ready when you get home.
Makes up to 24 lb. of nugget ice per day. Side water tank enables maximum capacity. Low profile fits easily under kitchen cabinets. Portable design plugs into any electrical outlet; no water hookup required.
Automatically powers on when ice is running low, so you always have ice on hand. Prevents clumping and leaks by recirculating melted ice to water tank. Wi-Fi-enabled to work with free SmartHQ app, so you can control appliance from smartphone.
If you want the good ice, but don’t want to spend 4 figures and give up a cabinet, this countertop nugget ice maker is wonderful. It’s got a few quirks and flaws, but it has more positives. It looks good, the side tank makes it easy to refill, and it makes really nice ice.
It is a little noisy, but not all the time. Your old ice maker has a cycle of different noises – it runs water into the thing, runs the compressor to freeze it and then dumps a bunch of big ice cubes into the bin all at once.
This little ice maker mostly just makes the compressor humming sound and a constant plip-plip-plip of little ice nuggets dropping when it gets into its groove. Other times you might hear a funny, squeaky sound, or the sound of a dump truck’s brakes as it tries to avoid driving through the nitroglycerine plant.
Either way, the ice maker then puts itself through a defrost cycle and the noise is gone. I think that’s the difference between buying it here at Best Buy, where you get the ‘Opal 2. 0’ where they probably addressed the weird noises that everyone buying it from Amazon complained about.
This thing keeps the ice pretty well, even over night, but there is one flaw – the ice nuggets melt slightly but then refreeze together (a sign that it’s pretty well insulated) and they don’t spread out evenly in the bin.
I programmed mine to stop making ice at bedtime and start again at 5am so it’s nice and full the next morning, but the pile of ice forms a peak towards the dispenser and triggers whatever the ice full sensor is and it never started making any more ice.
I don’t know why the ice doesn’t bounce down the hill better, but I’ve made a habit of manipulating the ice pile often so it’s all towards the front and there’s room for more ice to drop. This ice maker is great, but get the warranty! Ice makers have lots of moving parts that spend all day encountering water and enduring its phase change in freezing temperatures.
Ice is brutal! Nobody on this planet has ever had an ice maker that never once quit working.
I didn’t know nugget ice makers even existed until it was included on an article with expensive items you don’t need but don’t regret buying. This was out of my comfortable price range but I needed something to keep me cool through the summer as we have no AC.
This ice maker has helped get me through the hot 104°+ days. I honestly just snack on this ice at the hottest parts of the day and it cools my body down so much. Any other ice maker could do that too yes, but this one makes small, gentle on your teeth, easy to chew ice.
I only use bottled water and drinks also taste so much better, especially with tea, soda, or just by itself. It does take a bit for the bin to fill up but I have the app to schedule it to turn on an hour and a half to two hours before I’m even up so there will be plenty ready when I am.
Once you have that first batch, it’s easy for it to keep up the rest of the day so you never run out. It’s not refrigerated but the ice keeps well that even if you leave it for several hours, there will still be a lot waiting because it takes a while for it to melt completely.
Now the downside of all this is that, the upkeep is a lot of work. It asks to be sanitized once a week at least. This cleaning cycle is a tiny bit of bleach with water, then a few rinse cycles. I’m sure this is to prolong the life of the ice maker but that seems excessive so I usually stretch it to once every two weeks.
To offset that, I empty any remaining water from that day and wipe down the bin, the reservoir, and all along the walls every night before putting fresh water in for the morning. The descale warning already came up for me a month into using the maker but it’s regularly on all day so that might be why.
It’s the same process as before but with vinegar and has to be left for 18 hours so you’ll be a day without ice. Other than that, this has been one of the best purchases I‘ve ever made. I just hope it lasts for a few years before it gives out because of the hefty price.
If you can afford it, don’t mind the regular maintenance, and want your own sonic ice at your disposal, it’s well worth getting.
We purchased the GE Opal 2. 0 after our FirstBuild Opal (1. 0) failed after only 2-1/2 years. Reviews on the GE branded Opal were mixed, but we decided to purchase because we really liked the ice the first Opal made.
We have had the Opal 2. 0 for a couple of weeks and we are very pleased with it. It was quite a bit more expensive than the previous one, so we hope it will last a great deal longer. The product is improved over our original Opal.
Thus far, we have had no issues with the machine indicating it needs water when the reservoir/side tank was completely full. This was a constant problem with the previous Opal. The side tank has about 25 percent less capacity than the previous Opal’s side tank.
Not sure why it was necessary, since the two items function identically, but the smaller tank is adequate for regular home use. We use bottled water and have not had any problems with mineral deposits.
The cleaning requirements per the user manual are not difficult, but cleaning and descaling weekly is inconvenient and not realistic. The available cleaning kit is about $30, good for two cleanings–we will use white vinegar instead to clean it.
The new unit is a good bit quieter than the old one, a great improvement. We purchased the item on Amazon for $579 plus tax (shipping was free as we are Prime members). It remains to be seen how long the unit will last and whether the service life is as long as it should be given the price paid.
If it doesn’t last any longer than the previous version, we will be most disappointed. We would recommend the product for those who are really into the Sonic-style ice nuggets (as we are) and are willing to fork over $600+.
Perfect for your RV, boat, or small kitchen, this ice maker is compact and portable, and works anywhere there is an outlet available. This attractive ice maker will more than meet your ice-making needs with no installation required.
Just plug in the unit, add water, and enjoy a batch of ice in as little as 6 minutes. Because it can make up to 26 lbs. of bullet ice cubes in 24 hours, you’ll never have to deal with pesky ice trays ever again.
The integrated storage bin is well-insulated and can hold 1. 5 lbs. of ice at a time. Turn this ice maker on/off and choose your ice size using this unit’s easy-to-use control panel. Want to check the process Just use the clear window to view the ice tray.
When the water level in the reservoir runs low or the tray has reached capacity you’ll get alert indicators right on the unit.
I didn’t know what to expect! It definitely makes ice for one to three people fairly quickly, there’s little difference in small vs large size ice pieces or whatever you call the weird shaped hollow on one end, rounded on the other ice shapes (some refer to as bullets) that drop in the basket.
These are nothing like the soft chewable “nuggets” you used to get from the soda shops and I guess Sonic from what I hear. It’s nice looking, good quality, but a bit loud! If there’s enough water in the reservoir it will fill the ice bin in about 2 hours or so making quite a racket while transferring and dropping ice.
If you are in a one story house, condo, etc, you probably don’t want it on at night slinging ice into the plastic basket. Once the ice bin is full the unit refrigeration apparently shuts off and the ice just sets there and melts together and eventually drips back into the water reservoir below, starting the cycle over.
Sometimes you have to turn it back on, and maybe add water. I make enough ice to fill 2 to 3 qt. size soup containers that go into the freezer, then turn the unit off until more ice is needed. If you wait too long to transfer to the freezer the ice will be too wet and stuck together once needed.
I’m sure all these ice-makers at this price point do about the same job. Guess if you want the true soft-chew nuggets and a unit that stores the ice indefinitely, you’ll have to pony up an additional $250- $300 for the FirstBuild ‘Opal’ 1B, and up to a couple thousand or so if your budget allows that much for a high end residential counter top ice maker.
I love this ice maker, I used it a few time and then lent it to a friends to use at his lake house for the summer. He uses at the dock so he can have parties and cold drinks during the day. He loves it.
He said he may not give it back to me. It is great to have for parties so you dont have to run to the store to buy ice, which saves you money. The instructions were very detailed. #sweepstates.

Makes ice very fast. It’s quiet. Door design is its downfall. It lifts up, but Does not slide out of the way making it very difficult to get into the ice. you have to stoop down to see what you were doing.
Also the door has a panel that youre supposed to see whats going on with the door closed however it is translucent and you cannot see anything but a blue glow from the LEDs inside. The operating manual is translated from Chinese and was not very good translation.
You will have to figure out a few things yourself by playing with the buttons.
This is the portable ice maker that produces ice cubes in as little as 10 minutes, making up to 22 lbs. of ice in a day. Once filled with water, the device freezes nine conical-shaped ice “cubes” at a time and deposits them into the bin; any melted water is filtered and re-used for the next batch.
An audible signal notifies you when the ice bin is full and when the 1. 7-quart water reservoir is empty. With a drain valve and mini ice scoop. AC plug. 13 H x 9 1/2 W x 14 D. (20 lbs. ).
I was thrilled to receive this very weighty item, which is not disappointing. The whirs and whistles on it, if you will, are fun and an “ice-breaker” during a conversation, ha. It does, however, take a fair amount of time to get a bag of ice, and the cubes are different, not square or round, but in between, and cute and fit better in a glass and are not jagged on their edges, like the ice I was chipping away day after day.
I would say if you need a lot of ice, allot a chunk of time to accomplish the task. Otherwise, I still love it and am glad I have it and now I don’t need ice for a couple of days and no mess or fuss.
The silicone plug pulls up well to drain the excess water when the cycle is complete. All in all, i am very happy with the convenience of not getting my hands freezing by chipping away and cleaning up mess after mess day in and day out.
Just received the counter top ice maker. It is smaller than I expected(which is great) and it is a nice looking, stainless steel appliance. It is simple to use. I put water in, plugged it in and hit start.
I then checked the start time. In one hour I had cylindrical ice cubes and they continued to drop in the basket until all the water was gone. It was amazing. So many ice cubes in such a short time. I had to praise it to all my grandchildren who were also amazed.
No need to ever run out of ice again. I highly recommend it to everyone who is considering the purchase of an ice machine. I had no reservations when I ordered it as Hammacher has never disappointed me.

After having my Kenmore model icemaker from Sears for 15 years, I was thrilled to see that Whirlpool had almost the same exact model but a little better, because it had an interior light and changeable water filter.
Since Sears was no longer selling freestanding icemakers, I purchased this one at Best Buy for $1,750 and that was after shopping around for the best price. Thankfully, I purchased an extended 5 year warranty for an additional $395.
00. Unfortunately, after only 10 months, it stopped working! It was still under the 1 year manufacturers warranty, so I called Whirlpool for a service call. First service call I was told that the unit needed a new compressor and evaporator.
The next technician showed up and concluded the problem was misdiagnosed, through no fault of the first technician, but the fault of the repair center tech that he spoke with. So now, I was told it needed a new computer control board, basically the brain box.
Well, that needed to be ordered and a 3rd service call scheduled. Well, the 3rd tech shows up with the computer control board, spends almost 2 hours removing the old and installing the new board, only to find out that the part is defective! He informs the office that the part is no good and is told that they are on back order.
So when they get the part in, they will call me to schedule a 4th service call. At this point, we’re 2 weeks into the repairs and me purchasing 20 lb. bags of ice at the gas station every other day for my work.
Not really happy right now. I really do like the icemaker though when it’s working. It’s convenient for me to fill up my cooler in my kitchen before work and I use the ice every day for my soda at home.
If you do purchase this unit, you MUST spend the extra money for the extended warranty and expect repairs often. I tried a commercial icemaker before this and ended up returning it. It was horrible! Big, noisy and I had to break the ice up with a wrench!.
So where to begin. I have my ice machine delivered and it has obviously been previously returned because I find the brass fastener from the water line that was cut still on it. Then as I open it, I see that it has a filter compartment but you have to buy the filters separately (2 for $49 when you go to register the item).
$1,800 ice machine but company too cheap to include a filter. But wait, there’s more. Go to install and realize that the machine also does not come with a water pump. Something you only find out if you read through the description, the tech, and finally when you are in the Q&A where the company decides to communicate for the first time that this is a gravity drain device.
we are talking AFTER ratings. But dont despair Whirlpool will sell you this on their site for an additional $555. 59 on their site as well. Folks you are looking at a $2,400 ice machine that is marketed at $1829.
99 BEFORE you invest in all the required accessories. But hey, maybe if you order one you will get one that was not already returned by a customer.
We have had KitchenAid of a similar model which lasted us 11 years. It just got hot and stopped making ice one day. We called a repair person and while it could’ve been repaired, the repairs would’ve cost 30% of what a new one would cost.
At that point we decided to look for a new one with a warranty. We happened to find this one at a big box store which is unusual because this is not a typical stock item. As it turned out, someone had special ordered it and decided they didn’t want it.
Their loss our gain. Not only did we get an exceptional deal on this as the big box wanted it out of inventory; it had never even been removed from the box! It is the same exact type of icemaker we had as a KitchenAid.
Since Whirlpool makes both Whirlpool and KitchenAid, it makes sense. It was easy to install since all the connections were exactly the same. Since we purchased it has been making ice well. Cubes are small and consistent and it does great job.
I’ve only had it for two weeks so time will tell but right now we’re very happy with the purchase.

This is basically the same model that I replaced after about 15 years of service. Works as advertised and produces a nice small clear cube. Previous model stated that you had to have the filter in place in order to properly run the machine.
This model if I understrand the instructions do not require the filter, but recommended. If fact ice maker does not come with a filter previously installed, only a cap in the filter hole. Whirlpool includes with the instructions a certificate for 10 percent off on you frist order of filters.
However, I was able to do a lot better in pricing by ordering them online thru another distributor. Same filter I bought for my previous Whirlpool Ice Maker. It is a great ice maker to have around for parties and general ice requirements.
Never have to go to the store to buy additonal ice.
Ice maker has never made thick ice, as described in the specification. Ice that is being made is OK. When I first got this appliance, it quit working. I had a service team under contract with Whirlpool come out and they determined that it would need several parts that are out of stock.
A few days later, the machine started working again on its own. Have not heard any word from the repair company since then about when or if they will return. Since the machine is working now, I will not have any repair work done.
BUT, what I think should happen is Whirlpool should replace this machine with a new one that meets all specs and isn’t so sketchy about working.
