20 Best Air Bag Suspension Kits For Chevy Trucks (2023 Updated)

The product arrived quickly and was well packaged. Upon inspection of kit inventory the task seemed quite daunting, however my wife and I watched a YouTube video and decided to tackle the job. Once the nuts and bolts started piecing the assembly together the install went rather quickly.

On the F-250 you are required to drill the top bolt holes in the frame for mounting. This part of the task is the most difficult and is much easier when you have someone to swap in on the drill time with.

The frame is the thickest and strongest thing on the vehicle so it will take some time even with a new sharp bit. Each side took about an hour including running the air lines to a T and mounting the fill valve.

The kit comes with a double ended valve line that you cut in half for length but I recommend using a single valve with the T for equal pressure at both bags if you are not installing a controller. I mounted my valve in the same mounting plate as my 4/7-pin.

All and all I would say these are a great value for the money especially if you install them yourself. The task can seem intimidating but if you will watch a video and familiarize yourself with the way the mount and work it makes it a whole lot easier to take on.

I bought the Airlift 1000 for my Ram 1500 in 2015 to help level when pulling RV trailer. One air bag failed when the valve stared to leak during the winter and I did not notice until this year when I was pressuring up the air bags to haul the RV Trailer.

They come with a lifetime warranty and after 5 years I no longer have the receipt. I went to my local Canadian Tire and they were able to pull up the purchase using my rewards card number. They ordered me a new airlift 1000 kit, it took about two weeks to come in.

I removed the failed air bag and exchanged it for the completely new kit that included all parts including both bags (I only needed one air bag). Excellent service and warranty.

Have fitted the airbags was as simple as they instructions said. Work great with the controller. Am one man in shed have been buying from Summit for approx 8+ years have never let me down with quality and freight to Australia.

This set up is excellent. At first I bought a different kit as my truck is lowered, but returned it for this kit as the first one was not easy to install. This kit is very well engineered. Very easy to install, strong top brackets cradle the frame held with a single bolt with a spacer.

It’s how I would have done it. The best part is the ride. I love it! My lowered “ground force” 2008 silverado, always suffered from a rough ride and bottoming out, over rough terrain and frost heaves.

The air ride soaks up the bumps with fast response and I have caught myself actually smiling when I used to cringe. I use the truck as a truck load it full and tow a 22′ bike trailer and the adjustment helps me level out the load.

Traded my 3/4 ton for a 1/2 ton because of the height. I have used these Air lift products before so I ordered a set asap. These were much easer to install than on my ’99 1/2 ton Silverado. Have not put them to the test yet but the engine shows are starting this spring.

I pull a 8k lb TT, a 24′ enclosed trailer loaded with antique engines and a 20′ tag along with vintage tractors. I have no fear they want be able to carry the load. 2014 Chevrolet Silverado LT/Z71 1500.

I wanted to have a level tow when towing a boat. So, went for the helper vs the heavy duty air shocks. The helpers are plenty for what I am doing. Everything is leveled out perfectly at 35 PSI, I have 70 plus PSI to use if I take on heavier loads.

There are several options as to where to place the air valves. I placed them straight out the back through the bumper. This product bolted on with no drilling into the frame. The only drilling was for the air valves.

The only negative comment is the kit was missing two bolts, and four washers. I did not bother to call, just went to the hardware store and picked them up. Most difficult part was getting a bolt through a hole in the side of the frame, and down through another hole.

I would rate the whole process a 4. 5 out of 10 for difficulty.

I installed this on my 2004 Silverado, 1/2ton ext. cab. When I got the truck the rear leafs were saggy. This kit helped me to bring the truck up to normal level. I also installed the most basic model of air compressor Air Lift offers.

the inexpensive plastic case unit. I put the compressor in a small plastic ammo box, and bolted it, upside down, to the bottom side of truck box, just forward of the spare tire. This way, the compressor will not be subject to dirt, water, snow etc.

All of the air lines were encased in 5/16″ gas neoprene gas lines to protect from abrasion. Having the compressor online, along with the dash-mounted gauge is very nice. I would recommend this device to anyone who needs to either bring their truck back up to level as I did, or needs a little extra payload capability when necessary.

I bought these first about 15 years ago and put them on my 94F150 had them for 5-6 years on that truck then after 300,000 + miles put them on a 93f250 for a few years. I just recently purchased a new set for my 2000 silverado and love them.

I drive around with a contractor’s cap and over 1000lbs of tools and supplies all the time so i run the bags at about 30psi all the time now i ride level and paired with 4 new hd shocks like a caddy just be cautious not to keep turning the air fitting into the bag or it will take some fabrication to remove if needed.

Installation was a breeze, instructions were very detailed and well written. Took less than two hours from unboxing to final test. Extremely well made kit that fit the application perfectly. Very noticeable difference in weight handling of an old 1500 pickup, nice and comfortable ride with proper inflation.

Highly recommended. The only thing missing from the kit is a “T” to join the two bags together for a single point inflate. Wish they offered both options in the kit.

I use my 1/2 ton Chevy to pull a car trailer. Before adding the Ride Rite Kit, the weight of the loaded trailer caused the rear of the truck to drop significantly, which caused the front of the truck to be high and somewhat light.

With the Ride Rite Air Bags, the truck sits level and handles better when towing. Installation was pretty simple and took about 6 hours using a 4 post lift. The AutoAnything staff was helpful, their price was the lowest I found, but the kit didn’t ship for a week.

Directions are ok the bags pad that rests on the bump stop landing block doesn’t sit flush on the pad or contact the axle level due to lower bag bolt needs to be a machine screw and beveled hole in plate to be flush with the lower plate.

This bolt makes contact keeps lower plate on an angle. Surprising Poor design overlooked. Otherwise they are great leveling the truck when my 5th wheel is hooked and loaded.

I put these on my 2004 Toyota Sienna, and gained clearance with the annoying dragging class 3 hitch. After the install my van fully loaded, with a tent trailer hooked on was higher than my friends sienna with only 4 byciles on a rear rack.

have had them in 2 years now no leaks, non issue, drives better also.

By far the air bags have been the best investment for my 2005 gmc serra 1500hd. The truck is used for towing and hauling farm equipment, i also have a slidein camper that weighs about 1800#s. I installed the air bags and set the pressure and the roll,bottoming out went away and the normal ride improved greatly.

I would have installed them along time ago if i knew how much they helped.

Kit was well designed and USA made. Only problem was instructions were sketched pics not actual pics of the item being installed. It took me about 3 hours to get it installed. Not bad for the first time.

If I ever do it again on friends rig I will have them help and cut the time in half.

I just installed this on my 2021 Ram 1500 5. 7 Hemi. I have pulled several different trailers with this truck and the rear sagging like a sad old junker. After installing this today I hooked up my 28′ enclosed trailer and with 35 lbs in the Air bags the rear didn’t drop.

I pulled the trailer for a few miles just to try it out and the front end seems more stable. Once I put my Corvette in the trailer I’ll pump the air bags up to 45 or 50 and I’m going to try it there.

These were a little difficult to get smashed down enough to get them inside of the springs, but with a tire spoon and a large breaker bar working them up in was a challenge laying on my back. I’m thinking it would have been easier if I had a lift.

I like the fit. Like I said they seems to work well. Excellent product and I would recommend them.

All I can say is WOW!!! What a world of difference. This took all the harshness, sharpness, and bounce that transfers from the road, through an empty truck bed, and felt in the seat/cab. You will feel more level on turns, and it will soften the rebound that is notorious with the coil springs on the back of the 4th and 5th Gen RAMs.

Add all of those benefits along with the added load support of a full bed or heavy tongue-weight trailer (up to 1000lbs of rear lift support). Perfect for those guys who have a travel trailer or just want to smooth out the ride a lot more.

Best bang for the buck, and an easy install no less. I used zip-ties to keep the “hot dog bun” shape necessary for squeezing the air bag into the rear coils. I lifted the truck a bunch in the rear, set the frame on jack stands, then lowered the diff, trying to create as much spacing in the coils as possible (a little more time consuming for me since I have bad**s dual rate coils in the rear of my pickup).

I installed these at the same time as a pair of Timbrens. Total install was less than 3 hours, and that was taking my time, shooting the breeze with my pops in the garage and sipping on a beer. Buy these.

You won’t regret it.

I had replaced the rear coil springs on my 2013 Ram 1500 with after-market springs so it would sit level. It did sit level and had a much nicer ride, but really drooped when any load was added to the bed.

Air Lift to the rescue! The Air Lift 1000 air spring proved to be the most cost effective, easiest to install and most versatile solution available. Installation was a snap, just raise the rear of the truck way-up and put jackstands under the frame so the rear axle can be lowered to the hanging position.

Now, roll the air out of the bags and push them into the coil springs with the air fitting pointed up (it helps to use something like a wood plunger handle with a rounded end to convince the bags to go in), slide in the top spacer/seating plate, remove the sealing cap from the end of the bag, thread the air-line down through the top of the spring pocket and connect to the bag with the included spring clamps, route the air-line through the boxed frame rail to the rear bumper.

Check to make sure the top spacer/seating plate is still positioned correctly, jack up the rear to get the stands from under the frame and lower to the ground. I put 35psi in the bags and after a short drive let it sit that way overnight, the next morning I dropped them down to 5psi for normal driving and the ride was still fantastic.

I have hauled full loads in the bed while towing a U-Haul Trailer heavily loaded, which required 30psi in the bags to sit level, and it still had the same fantastic ride. Ram offers factory air suspension now, but this is what every other Ram 1500 with coil-springs should have.

I like the product, would buy again in a heart beat. The installation instructions were unclear and added an hour or more to our installation. Not that complicated a job once you know where each part goes.

Have had these on for several months now. Work great. This is my second set I have purchased for two different vehicles. Always work as advertised.

My Silverado has approx. 140k on it now. The air bags were a great addition. Smoothed out daily drives and definitely helps when towing or carrying loads in bed. 100% recommend to anyone that uses their truck for its purpose.

Very easy install on these bags, it took me a little while longer since I had a 5th plate attached to the frame so I couldn’t use the simple U-bolts. Very easy instructions to follow. I have mine set at 30 and haul trailers everyday for work.

Makes a huge difference in the ride. Can’t even tell trailers are back there anymore.

This product showed up missing parts. I am a busy business owner and don’t have many days off and when I finally make time to install these and find that it is missing parts its very frustrating. Your guys returns timeframe is wayyyyy to long.

I will always try and shop local but when I can print a return label the same day from Amazon it makes your return policy look terrible and outdated.

Review, review, and double check using all available resources before beginning. After redos I could have saved myself time and effort if I could just learn to following instructions. I have put over 2000 miles on this kit with my Chevy 2500 pulling a 13,000 fifth wheel.

I put 30 pounds of air in each bag and the results on bridges and overpasses were very noticeable taking out the bouncing. I recommend this product.

Installation was easy. Did have to take bottom shock mount bolts out to move shocks, not listed in instruction. This kit should be sold with aluminum tubing to hard pipe and compression fittings, to connect both air bags with one fill point.

2016 Chevy Silverado 3500HD.

Installed on a 2018 GMC 1500 SLT Crew Cab std box truck. Third set of these Firestone Air Bags I’ve installed so semi familiar with the routine. Been at least a month, but I’d guess for me abt 3-4 hrs for install as I wasnt in a rush and am a bit OCD.

Took me longest to figure out what size hex head bolt held the existing rubber spring bumpers in place. Small access hole to bolt doesn’t let you slip a socket up in hole very easily and it ended up being a much smaller size (like a 10mm) verses a Allen head per instructions.

Happy with product but have yet to pull my 26ft RV trailer with this setup. With just a small amount of air pressure, its nice to have the added stability these bags give you when towing.

This kit is baller! Works as it should. For my truck I needed to modify both the truck as well as the brackets BUT that is only because my truck is lowered. This is a kit that ACTUALLY comes with EVERYTHING youll need to not only make it work, but make it work correctly.

Everything is made with excellent quality and nothing about it is cheap or poorly manufactured. I tow my 21 foot enclosed V-nose trailer as well as my 30+ foot camper/travel trailer on a regular basis and this was not only a improvement of my truck; but also an investment.

I sized up this kit for my 09-Challenger, it was a excellent fit. I routinely go to a Federal Reserve to get spring water approx. 35 gal. of dead weight, it rode & handled quite well. Installation was simple I had to service some suspension components anyway.

I have used in many of my vehicles, 81 Rivera, a Kelmark (Kit Car) having a heavy 72 Toronado Engine/Powertrain using Corvair 65-69 Rear suspension. 85 Full Chev wagon to tow a 5,5000 lb. trailer.

2015 RAM 1500 with 2″ drop rear coils. We haul a drift car with a tandem axle trailer 9,000 lbs and 1000 lbs payload in the bed, the bags @ 50psi level the RAM and makes the body roll manageable. When empty we drop the bags to 15psi and she rides flawless.

I’ve used these bags on two other vehicles but first time with a custom length spring. Air Rides calculations for the universal bag selection worked great!.

Installed on back of 1965 Chevy c10. Was not an easy install because of spring mount bolts in center of spring, that’s chevy, not air lift. Nice kit impressed with how well they work. I put a small camper on and wanted to firm it up.

Firm up the ride and lifted truck 3 inches at full air pressure. Thanks. I will buy these again. I remembered my dad using these in the 1970s.

I would not be able to recommend this item enough. It is amazing! I pull a 9,000lb 35ft travel trailer with a 2018 F-150 Super Crew with a short bed. My trailer would squat my rear suspension and cause lift on the front tires.

Even with a load leveling, weight distribution hitch, I would still have sway issues. After installing these bags, my truck was able return to stock height and regain the needed weight over the steer tires.

It was a night and day difference in the quality of ride allowed better control in windy conditions. They also alleviated the suspension bounce while driving down the highway and no more sway issues.

Installation was not difficult and could be completed with basic hand tools. Though removing rear wheels would make the install much easier, I was still able to complete installation without removing them.

Firestone included a mount for the air up valves but I decided to run my air lines to the rear if my truck and have them set up to pass through my license plate. Having them set up this way makes adjusting pressure very easy and also protects them from road debris.

The install is straightforward. I didn’t take off the wheels, remove the spare, move the brake lines, or even jack up the truck. There was enough room for me to do the install without it, although it’s tight and you will have a much easier time if you do some or all of those things.

You will need a deep 14mm socket for the bolts included in the kit. The bolt holding my bump stop to the frame — which you reuse for this kit — was actually 1/2 inch, and you’ll need a deep socket there too.

I didn’t have one, but the 14mm socket fit well enough for hand tools. Don’t use something like an impact driver unless you have the exact right size socket, though. You’ll round off the bolt if you do.

Before screwing the fittings into the airbags, figure out which direction is “front” and which is “back. ” Unless you have specific plans in mind already, you want the fittings to be pointing toward the back of your truck.

You don’t need to tighten the fittings like crazy. The threads are taped so they will hold and be airtight if hand-tightened. If you back out the fitting, you either need to go a full extra turn around, or reapply tape.

You don’t want to discover a leak around the fitting when the kit is installed. Once installed, they work great. As high as 10psi there is no noticeable difference to ride quality vs. stock except when going over speed bumps.

I bought the kit because the stock rear suspension is too squishy when towing a heavy travel trailer, even with a properly set up weight distributing hitch. With the trailer on the WDH and 30psi on the bags, everything was still level but the rear suspension was vastly improved.

It was immediately noticeable. Most people run 50psi but at that pressure my trailer was nose-up and I didn’t feel like redoing the WDH to correct it. The reason for the 4-star rating is that the threads on the U-bolts don’t seem to match the threads on the nuts.

Or maybe it’s designed that way to keep the nuts from backing out, I don’t know. With my regular handheld socket wrench I’d get them a couple turns, and then they’d bind so hard that it needed all my strength to get them to move even a tiny fraction of a turn.

I ended up buying a right-angle adapter for my electric impact driver. That actually had an even harder time turning the nuts. What I’d do is drive the nut until it froze, then back it out maybe 1/8 turn.

At that point it would go maybe 1/4 turn before seizing again. Lather, rinse, repeat. It ended up taking me close to 4 hours to get the U-bolts secured, but I spent probably half that time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

There’s only one type of nut included in the kit, so I couldn’t have been using the wrong kind. With a long-handle wrench (which would require removing the wheels) or a high-torque impact driver it would probably have taken no more than 15 minutes.

No idea why I never thought Of buying these sooner. Truck performs so much better. Towing confidence increased dramatically. Easy installion, even had a few leaks that were diagnosed and repaired easily.

I put a set on my 2500HD last summer to level the truck when pulling a 4 horse goose neck trailer with living quarters in the front. After installation and inflating them to keep the truck level with the trailer on (50 psi), I unhooked the trailer and drove the truck leaving the air pressure at 50 psi.

Had I known that the ride and handling would be that much better, I would have installed them in 2003 when I bought the truck new. My son has a 2006 2500HD and after we put the bags in my truck asked where his were.

He got them for Christmas. They are so worth having. 2003 Chevrolet 2500HD and 2006 Chevrolet 2500HD.

Impressed with how these air bags have helped my suspension performance. I tow a large trailer frequently and have issues with the bed sagging and the truck wondering. Installed the Firestone Ride Ride kit and have seen big improvements.

I bought these for my Chevy to haul a camping trailer. I have never used air bags in the past (usually over load springs). I was scared of leaks and puncturing the bags but have had them out on a few off road outings and have had no problems yet.

Much better ride quality over overload spring I have had in the past. 2002 chevy 2500hd.

I just bought a brand-new travel trailer and a brand-new truck but the truck sags below 2 inches when I put my trailer on it so I am familiar with your systems because I use them in the trucking industry before I was very pleased to find you many small system for smaller and lighter weight trucks for a nicely made was little hard drilling through the frame to put the bolts and but other than that went on great looks good and keeps the backing of the truck up and stable just like I wanted it.

Dirt cheap compared to other websites. Install was a breeze. Made pulling our camper a lot easier with our 3. 6 L V6 Colorado. I paired the Air Lift with my weight distributing hitch and love it. Our trailer is about 4,950 empty and about 5,600 loaded our things and 6,000 lbs loaded with water and our things.

Very quick shipping. I haven’t installed them yet on my truck, but my son put them on his Suburban and absolutely loves them. I can’t wait to get them on my truck.

The product is very well made. All parts fit exactly as they were designed. Pretty straight forward installation. My truck has a fifth wheel hitch mounting system under the bed so it took a little extra time to install the upper frame brackets.

Had to drill the frame for a mounting bolt, the upper bracket has a hole in it for that situation. Nothing too hard just a little extra time. The air bags work great. Bought the Wireless One compressor system, nice to be able to remotely control the air pressure.

Would recommend this system. 2011 GMC 3500 dually.

Easy install. Paired them with the wireless compressor and makes it fun to change the pressures to see how the ride changes. I bought them to help when pulling the fifth wheel which puts me at max weight.

installed on 2012 gmc dually. smoothed out my ride when empty. run 10 lbs. my fifth wheel hitch is always in. hauled 43 ft. toy hauler camping with 60 lbs. and made a big difference. install took me longer but i am slow.

I have a 1985 Allegro motorhome the org bags were total junk when I got it. So I ordered these bags. Great quality and they work well once you get them installed. I am a experienced shade tree mechanic and can pretty much do most things.

But this install really kicked my butt. Very difficult getting them in. Took me two days of cursing and trying every trick in the book. Just make sure you get them scrunched down as far as you can then go some more.

I used zip ties and lots n lots of soapy water mix. I also used some o ring chain lube that I think pushed it over the top. The next most problematic thing was getting the top spacer lined up right which took a few tries cause if you don’t have that in you just wasted all your time because the bags will get a hole in them.

All in all terrible install but they work great and made the motorhome at least not float all over the place. 1985 Allegro Motorhome P30.

Easiest part was removing the crumbled remains of OEM installed bags. Used heat gun to soften replacement bags. Rolled/squeezed tightly and bound replacement bags with zip ties. Raised RV with on board levelers, then set RV on work stands.

Did not remove front wheels. Top and bottom disks placement took a little work. 3 hours install time. 2003 Workhorse P-32 motor home Class A front.

I am 80 yrs young and getting under the motorhome was a trip in it self. Followed the instructions in removing the old bags and it took longer to get under and out again than it did removing the airbags.

I had to have help in collapsing the new bags, but they went right in as instructions said they would. I did have a burr on one of the holes and removed it before installing. Great product from a good business.

Installation was straightforward and as outlined in the instructions. Was able to get the air bags inside the coil springs without taking the shocks loose or using a pry bar. It did take some effort but, this is mechanic work.

Air lines also took some effort to attach to fittings. Using some liquid detergent helped the tubing slide over the barbs on the fittings. One observation, on my 2013 Suburban, the air bags are shorter than the space inside the coil springs.

When putting a load on the trailer hitch, the springs sag several inches before the air springs can start carrying the load. Once the air springs become part of the suspension support they work great.

Contacted a local shop here and they wanted $150 to install them. Even knowing they’d be ‘fun’ to install, I opted to do them myself. Bought a fresh set of jack stands (others were loaned out), got vehicle up in the air, then proceeded to deflate and squeeze the bags into place.

Only suggestion I’d have would be, put the air lines in place with clips as soon as you get the bags in place (with bags deflated as much as possible) otherwise, with the air lines are a real pain to connect (since they go out through the top).

I then installed the air inflator inside the gas fill door which will keep it clean, and in a handy location. Aired them up to about 33 lbs and they rode hard with no load on them (bought them for towing my 16′ enclosed work trailer to give the equalizer hitch a lil less to tend with, but have not hooked up to it yet).

Deflated then to about 7 lbs and they ride pretty much normal, with no additional load on truck. So, so far I’ll say they are good to go. Total install time took maybe 1. 5 hrs. So, in my book it was worth doing myself and saving that $150 quote that was given.

In last 6 months 2 purchases of Air Lift Bags–for 2004 Jeep Wrangler and for 1987 Lincoln Town Car–so far both have performed as advertised and would recommend this mfg’s support air bags. On Jeep needed to level back to have both cargo rack and pull a light trailer.

On Lincoln needed to level back to carry heavy loan on trunk on long trips. Both vehicles handling a little better, but a little stiffer on ride. Lincoln has Bielstein shocks that make air bags in back barely noticeable on ride.

Bolt holes did not line up had to drill out frame to make work. Welded bolt that’s on the top bracket snapped using a 3/8 drive ratchet. Bags sit crooked. They do work but not happy at all.

I was a little worried about putting these air springs on my self. I’m 66 years old but I like to do vehicle work. I’ve never put a set of air springs on. So on my pole barn floor I assembled the units and installed them on my 2001 Silverado 1500 4×4.

The instructions were great. And not a bolt, nut, washer was missing. These air springs are great. Work as they said they would. I haul a slide in camper and pull a cargo trailer. I can now level my unit.

Installation was fairly easy, would ensure I had proper tools next time then it would go even quicker. Also make sure there is not mud or dirt underneath your truck, it gets in your face and in the way for fastening bolts.

Made of a strong construction, they perform great while towing. Would purchase again for my next truck.

Kit had all parts needed for the installation and then some more which weren’t needed. The only question which I called and got the answer to very quickly was what the installatiob height should be for my particular vehicle.
