20 Best Zero Turn For Hills (2023 Updated)

I bought this about a month ago and have had it back to the dealer several times. I have yet been able to mow my yard with it without doing some kind of work on it. The VERY poor quality brake switch mount is the issue.

Then to make matters worse Husqvarna solution to the issue is to install a Tye Wrap on it. Yes that is what they told me to do to a Bran new 6500 dollar mower. Then trying to contact customer services is a JOKE.

They probably have the worst system for customer service I have ever seen in my life. I am about to the point that I am going to take this mower back and get my money back and go buy a different mower.

Very happy with this mower. Some reviewers obviously have had a hard time because they do not know how to operate it properly. The deck height pin removes easily while sitting in the seat. Raise the deck with with the foot control, pin comes out with a finger pull.

Getting stuck? Lol, it is a large mower and you should not drive it on soft ground. Check your ground first! I’ve had it a few years now mowing 2 acres with lots of trees. I grease all fittings before every use, especially the deck fittings, check air pressure.

It is a large mower, so take your time learning to drive it. I went from a residential grade 42in zero turn to this one. The speed will surprise you so work your way up to mowing at full speed.

When it runs it performs well. However, after a year and a half the blades will not engage without killing the engine due to problem with the safety switches. A Dealer, hour away is unable to perform warranty work for months.

Engine runs great without the blades engaged. Blades engage and run well until mower is put in motion. Suspect the problem is the seat safety switch.

We bought a more expensive lawn mower because we thought it would be tougher & more maintenance free. While it works well, we’ve had issues. After 5 or so hours on the meter, one of the brackets on the front of the deck came loose & fell down.

It started gouging lines in the grass. By the time we noticed what had happened, the straight bracket was bent in a U shape. But worse, it actually bent the thick metal bracket welded to the deck. I was able to straighten the bracket in a vise, but couldn’t straighten the deck tab.

So I had to Jerry-rig a long bolt to hold it back in place. It works, kinda. Then not 2 working hours later, the deck was tilting & gouging another line in the grass. This time a side nut had fallen off & allowed the deck to drop.

I put a new nut on & then double nuted all four bolts. Haven’t had any more problems. For the price we paid, I would expect a trouble free experience, especially when the lawn mower was so new.

I bought the mower about 2 month ago and have about 25 hours on it. The cut is great and even. The mower pushes through thick fescue and thick bermuda without an issue. I’ve also mowed 3 to 4 foot tall grass and weeds with this.

Took 2 passes to get it down, and really didn’t have a hard time doing it. The Hydros are stout and feel solid. The kawi is fantastic, I upgraded the intake and installed a high mount off of a fx series to keep dust in the intake down.

I keep my blades sharp and this thing just trucks through. The tires are ehh, but I air mine down a little for better traction but ill upgrade those soon. Discharge, and suction are great out of the deck.

Its very sturdy, and very easy to raise with the foot control. The seat and overall ride is comfortable. It doesn’t have a high end suspension system but for the light amount of suspension it does have its still very comfortable.

I bought mine from a local Husky dealer that I think did great on set up (Lanier Outdoor). I feel for those who have had bad experiences with this mower because mine have genuinely been great. Time will tell how the components last, but hopefully they do! For the price you get some good commercial pieces without the commercial price.

Owned for five year now has shredded belts 6 times since I purchased. First at 4 hrs. Always repaired by great dealership under warranty. Now out of warranty and still with the same problem. Manufacture impossible to make claim with.

Should have replaced this lemon years ago. Worst purchase I have ever made (of anything) in 55 years. If you want to be angry every time you walk in to shed or garage then this is the product for you.

For me, I will never purchase anything with the Husqvarna name on it ever again. Absolute junk.

Brief personal background: I am a retired electrical engineer with 4 years in electrical generation power industry and 42 years in semiconductor design/manufacturing. I have been mowing yards for over 50years and in my youth worked on farms running mostly tractors with different attachments.

I mainly have experience with gas power push mowers and on the farm with large 20 ft bush hogs. This is my first for both electric and Zero Turn Mower (ZTM). Brief history of ownership: I have used this mower 2 times mowing a little over an acre that is mainly Bermuda grass but does have some crab and blue grass.

First time yard was little wet and about 4. 5 inches high, second was dryer and the grass was about 3. 5 inches. I use the 2. 67” blade height setting. My yard has about 25 obstacles to mow around and is mostly level (only a small ditch).

I mowed during the day, so lights were not needed. Brief Summary of mower: I bought this from Lowes and had it delivered. Lowes had already assembled it before delivery but from instruction seem to be very straight forward.

This ZTM has very good ergonomics (I am 5’7”, 190lbs), very easy to operate (setting are mostly intuitive), with very good displays showing different setting, status of battery level, and alarms if they occur, very quiet compared to gas mowers, cut quality at the 2 highest blade speed setting was very good and even, steering controls good (since first time with ZTM it hard for me to compare this to gas version or other electric but I do think the control of speed and turning could be a little more linear), battery life good (It took about 50min to mow and had 20% left on battery using 2nd highest setting on blade speed and 2nd setting on drive speed, this is from a 100% charge).

The charger was very easy to mount and will run on a 15amp service. From ~ 20% battery level to 100% took 1. 75 hrs. Cleaning after use was very easy with hose quick disconnect and just blowing off the upper deck.

The main reason I bought this mower was I had good experience with their trimmer and edger. Also, I like the battery pack design that displays battery level and appears to provide good cooling of the battery and charger.

I like the ability to remove and replace batteries if needed. The S/W application was easy to down load and run, check the firmware for any updates (mine did not need any), and status of the mower. EGO web site for registering was easy to use (It would be nice if EGO had a way for the mower to read serial number of the mower, batteries, and charger, so when you log in with the app this would automatically load for registration) Pros: Ergonomic, chair comfort, controls/displays, battery design, cutting quality and power, manual is very clear and coverage of operation/safety, S/W app and firmware update capabilities, overall design.

Cons: Price, speed and turn controls (needs to be little more linear) Recommendations: 1) Include the full six 10amps/hr batteries and mulching attachment 2) Blade height setting needs a better way to display the setting, I would recommend showing this on the main control display it could easily be done.

3) Have mower read serial number for easy warranty setup. 4) On the discharge chute add a simple way to lower and raise, to improve storage and maneuverability.

I used to do professional lawn care using commercial grade Scag zero turn mowers. I feel very qualified to provide a review of any zero turn. Although I am no longer mowing professionally, I wanted to keep a zero turn mower for my own yard.

A couple of things are very important to me when it comes to mowing: efficiency, which means mowing fast while also doing a good and thorough job without damaging the lawn with spinning tires or running into obstacles, clean lines, and the blades not skipping over areas leaving uncut grass.

I also wanted to get an electric mower to reduce maintenance requirements. I no longer wanted to mess with belts, oil, spark plugs, or lead batteries. I tested an electric Cub Cadet zero turn but got the Ego because the steering on the Ego is smoother and free of jerks.

Coming from commercial grade, the 42″ Ego satisfies my needs and probably would for almost any homeowner. I like how the entire deck can be easily removed which makes accessing the blades for removal/sharpening easy.

The seat is very comfortable and the front lights are very bright. The only negatives are that the Ego is lighter weight than a commercial grade heavy duty mower with relatively small drive wheels so it can struggle to travel lengthwise along slopes without slipping down the slope (most of my 1 acre is on a slope).

I can take my time and mow all of my property which totals about 3/4 acre worth of grass and have 25% battery remaining. For tall grass it skipped in a few places which requires a second pass. Since I am spoiled by the weight and thorough cutting of commercial mowers, I know what mowers are capable of.

This mower is not a commercial mower and keeping that in mind with the pricetag on this Ego, I can easily give it a 5 star review. A commercial grade mower can easily cost 5000 to 15000 more than the Ego, so in my opinion you get a really good value in the peace ofbmind that this mower will work eveytime you go out to the garage or shed and it will do a satisfactory job of cutting your grass.

Add to that the compatibility of batteries with other Ego products and this makes it a good mower.

Having owned 34 inch Arians zero turn gas mower with a 14 hp Briggs & Stratton engine (engine died after 5 years) ,and I have also owned a Ryobi 480me 38” electric riding mower both for 5 years ( battery was losing capacity) , I am neither new zero turn mowers or electric mowers.

Compared to the gas it’s refreshing to have quiet, reduced maintenance and not having to breathing the fumes especially when parking in the shed. I am able to cut my grass sideways in the ditch whereas my gas version I could only do up and down as it would just turn to the bottom.

It’s a crutch of all zero turn mowers but the Ego handles it much better. Compared to the prior will be electric with lead acid batteries, it has both way more power and better control of speed, blade speed and different control mode.

The lead acid batteries just did my acreage when they were new, the Ego I did my acreage and the ditch and I had 50% of the battery left. Being a zero turn it also does the job a lot faster as I have lots of obstacles and irregular shape of my lawn.

The Ego powertrain is quieter than the Ryobi electric. I haven’t cut any deep grass with it yet as I am currently in a drought and it’s the fall, so the real test will come in the spring. The only thing I don’t like about it is the deck makes a lot of noise when it’s going fast over bumps, a lot more than the other two mowers.

I think the frame is good because a lot of times and uneven surfaces when we will be in the air which suggests a strong frame but maybe you need some bushings just to get rid of the noise from the vibration in the deck, Ryobi had way less.

I also wish it came with 12 amp hour batteries. This is my first mower where you can attach a hose to clean the deck which to me is important. I also wish the batteries were under the seat to reduce overall length of the mower for easier storage but that’s just nitpicking.

I’ve owned my mower for a couple months. I mowed my 1 acre property and it mowed like a charm. Loved everything about it. 2weeks later I started mowing and It took 3 days to finish because the large deck belt would not stay on.

It appeared to be WAY too big! Finally found a place to go buy a belt to replace the seemingly perfect just too big belt that was on it and the dealer was more concerned with why I didn’t purchase my mower thru him then helping me find the belt I needed.

I replace the belt and cut my grass for a 3rd time, the deck seemed to rattle a bit more than I thought it would but otherwise did a great job. The 4th time cutting my ONE acre property however proved to one again leave me struggling to finish the job.

Now I’m forced to load up my less then 5 hour old mower and haul it 4 hours in order to be serviced because I’ve of the transmissions keeps locking up. I’m very disappointed in my first zero turn purchase.

From the go, one valve cover leaked oil. The muffler guard was too small and if I stopped on the lawn THE EXHAUST WOULD KILL THE GRASS. I made a larger baffle I had to adjust the brakes as it was too hard to go into park.

I added a trailer hitch, hour meter and arm rests. I did not take it back to dealer due to the distance, but did the repairs myself (20 yrs mower repair business. ) Excellent mower but assembly workmanship not so good.

I bought this 2 weeks ago , seems to cut good but there is no Hr. meter or gas gage. in Manual it has service intervals in Hours used. but no meter. also you have to guess at how much gas is left. I put the mulching blade and cover on it but haven’t tried it yet.

when cutting leaves they don’t cut very fine. hopefully the mulcher is better. I did not know I was paying a new price for a discontinued model.

For the money an HP I felt the ztx4-60 was a good deal. I have 31 acres an about 6 of is finish mowing an I use the “little 60” for. Mower is plenty powerful even if I put off mowing a couple days an IT gets deep.

I’ve always used a “big” tractor pull behind finish mower before this zero turn like a 9 foot finish mower, so this was completely different. I like the mowers efficiency, speed, quality of the cut, an easy of use.

The mower cleans up nice an is easy to service. I like the roll bar an seat belt, I feel safe using, the cup holders an led lights are a nice accent. My one an only complaint so far is ride quality , like I said I have a lot of uneven land an seems bumpy often.

Overall I see for the money an quality I’d recommend.

I’ve owned a cub cadet rzt 54 for 5 years and its been a great mower for around 2 acres. But I recently moved and my yard now is around 5 acres and it was a little hard on the rzt 54. So i bought this ztx4 60 and it has knocked around 30 minutes off the mow time.

The seat and ride are way better. You can mow and be comfortable with this mower. Overall heavy built. My only complaint with this ztx4 60 is I feel like it is slightly under powered. But im happy with it and it does what its built to do.

The Cub Cadet’s replacement blazes are exceptional quality. I have to purchase several sets of this wonderful product. I spent over $400 this past year on this exceptional quality product. I am glad that it holds up on flat level open terrain, or I would be compelled to purchase some sets of this wonderful product.

I purchased the mower in July for my 8 acre property. Half my property is semi flat or gentle 5 degree inclines. The mower is great for general cutting on these areas with moderate length grass. Unfortunately it is awful on any type of incline.

The other half of my property is 10 – 15 degree inclines and the mower does not handle these well at all. The wheels do not have solid traction and the lack of power in the mower makes it very difficult to turn out of downhill tight areas.

Further, it seems the mower does not have equal traction on the wheels. When trying to turn on an incline in wet grass, the left wheel will sit while the right wheel spins. I have to twist and backup off the incline or maneuver to get any type of “Posi traction” effect out of the steering Finally, the cuts are not very even.

Setting the deck height to 4″, I find that If the grass gets a little long, over 7″ or so, the blades have a hard time cutting evenly unless I go very very slow. This defeats the purpose of a fast mower.

On reflection, I should have gone with a more commercial grade mower that can handle the terrain. If you live on flat land and cut your grass at least once a week, this is a great mower.

Updated review, I regret buying this mower and the bagger system for it. I knew when I drove it it the parking lot it tracked bad to the left side. Now it will not adjust straight at all. A pully is squeeling loudly already after only 3 months of light use.

The worst part is Tractor Supply did not offer me any kind of help with this mower. They said it’s past 30 days so sorry about your bad luck. How are problems to arrise only after 30 days of use!? Cub Cadet customer solutions told me they could not help me over the phone because I bought the tractor in store?? The mower I bought does not cut grass untill you go over it 2 times? Tried new blades, going really slow and not mowing while the dew is even on the ground still does not cut well at all.

Before buying this I researched heavily about the different brands and which to go with. I wish I would have left without buying this. Trying to run a successful lawn care business is hard when your worrying about when your new mower is going to break down.

I just purchased this mower after trying a friends zt3 and I am very happy with it While this is my first zero turn mower, I’ve owned and operated many mowers from various manufacturers before. I love the look of it and its operation.

The engine starts very easily and the mower makes a clean cut. I only gave this mower 4 stars because it came without the required parts to use the Smartjet deck washing system. The dealer said this omission is new this year Cub Cadet — stop listening to the “bean counters” and listen to your customer service representatives! Saving ten cents (your cost — $$ for us) on this plastic part only serves to alienate your customers! Are you going to exclude the mower blades next year?? My dealer doesn’t stock the part because they never had to order it before.

A very frustrating initial experience!.
