20 Best Zero Drop Walking Shoes (2023 Updated)

I have NEVER Ordered shoes online without trying them on, however the Xero shoes were the one exception due the the great reviews and thinking that they would be a good fit for me. I went out on a limb and was super excited to run in them, but I couldn’t even run a successful 5k without MANY parts of my body aching.

I literally couldn’t walk without feeling like my kneecaps were rubbing against the bone, back issues, hips hurting, and insides of my feet. These things never bother me with my other running shoes, especially just for a few miles of a run!!! I reached out to customer service to ask for any tips on how to adjust to running barefoot and the reply was basically to run a mile in the Xero, then a mile in my regular running shoes, and continue just adding miles and over time, maybe a month, maybe a year I will get used to them.

But I can’t bring myself to go through that kind of extreme torture on my body to force my body to get used to a certain shoe. Also a warning to those whom buy These then run in them and figure out they aren’t for them….

They normally don’t take back returns that have been worn, and if they do it is only 70% of purchase price!!! Almost $40 for a let me try running in your shoe fee, that is Bonkers to me. Still in process of return soo who knows how long I will have to run in my Holey shoes until refund is back In my account to purchase some brooks instead.

Good luck to all the others who purchase these shoes. I wanted to love these sooo bad, the color is amazing, and I loved the idea, however for me I need a shoe with more support, and although They are lightweight and I thought for my running it may help lessen my time, that was not the case.

A few months back I started following a fellow named @Barefoot_Will_ (Austin Keith) on Twitter. He was giving away his e-book titled “Back to Barefeet” for free, so I decided to read his book and educate myself on the barefoot movement.

I grew up as a barefoot child and I have always had wide flat feet that have never really fit into conventional shoes. I was embarrassed over my feet and I have been made fun of more than once because of them.

After reading Austin’s book it has dawned on me that my feet have always been perfectly fine, they are healthy and strong because I stayed barefoot for most of my life. I got really excited to learn from the book that there are shoe companies that catered to my type of feet and were encouraging people to go back to minimalist barefoot shoes.

Out of the company’s that were listed in the book I chose XeroShoes because I liked the HFS women’s shoe and I really wanted to try them out. I knew right away when I saw them that they were meant for me! I remember how excited I and impatient I was to receive my new running shoes! Once my new HFS shoes arrived I put them on and I knew I was home! I have finally found my new shoe company for life! They fit like a glove, they are light as a feather and the greatest of joys…… my toes can move around the toe box of the shoe completely unrestricted! These shoes have changed the way I view my feet and they are teaching me a great deal about strength, mobility and balance.

I can’t wait to see what comes next!.

I’m going to try and keep a long story short. I remembered seeing a youtube advertisement and thinking it was an interesting concept. Wearing shoes that had no support and allowed you to feel the ground.

I had grown up wearing shoes with arch support and when I found very stiff shoes with a firm nylon shank from the heel to the ball of the foot it was even better. This was of course all prompted because I had struggled with ankle and knee problems for quite some time.

After several months, I determined if I saw that add one more time I would go visit the site and give this a try. I had already tried supportive shoes, inserts, prosthetic shoe inserts and I still had problems.

What could it hurt to try shoes based on a different thought process? Well, the result was amazing. It did take some adjusting. It was not painful, but I did have a little bit of a sore heel cause I struck too hard on my heel to start, my calves really felt the difference and my arches would sometimes feel a bit sore.

However, I decided to stick it out with my experiment in the world of minimalist shoes and walking barefoot sometimes. Within a few months my feet were changing for the better. The areas that were potentially forming bunions started to straighten.

My feet did get wider and that’s good, they were like walking on pencils before. Long and skinny as heck! Once I got used to walking in these shoes, my posture improved, my feet were stronger and I didn’t have ankle or knee problems anymore! To summarize how I feel about Xero shoes; I got rid of my other shoes and I have been slowly replacing them with Xero shoes when I have the money.

The shoes and the transition are worth it.

I received the xcursion fusions as a replacement for the original xcursions (which i liked but the soles came unglued when they were only 8 months old. ) I wasn’t sure I was going to like the xcursion fusions after reading a few reviews, but living in the Pacific Northwest I like having a waterproof boot option for winter.

Ive been wearing them for a few months now, we’ve had a lot of rain. They are definitely waterproof, I’ve worn them outside all day long in the pouring rain and my feet have remained dry. One review complained that the xcursion fusions toe box wasn’t as wide as the original.

I went up a half size like recommended and they fit like my original pair. I measured the upper width of the toe box, and they are exactly the same width as my altras. My feet are wide across the ball of the foot so I get the men’s.

Xcursion fusions, though still lightweight and flexible are built much more like a hiking boot, than a hightop tennis shoe like the original xcursion was. They have great ankle protection which some people like, and is handy in certain conditions.

I live and work in the woods, in my experience no brand of trail runners hold up well doing homestead chores, certain chores require a bit more foot protection, and the fusions are filling that niche nicely, along with using them as winter hiking boots.

I hike a few trails regularly, where a section of the trail is chunky gravel for three or four miles, which sometimes leaves my feet feeling a bit sore in my other minimalist shoes. Tho one can feel the contour of the ground in the fusions, and the sole is still quite flexible, I’m finding the thicker treads prevent my feet from feeling sore after hiking on miles of gravel.

The tread offers especially great stability on loose down hill trail surfaces. Wet surfaces are so so. A common complaint about Altras, is how the upper material allows the foot to slip sideways on slanted trails (no matter how you tie them.

) The Xcursion Fusions I’m happy to say, don’t do that at all. I’m partial to truly minimalist barefoot shoes for hiking, but Im finding i do like the xcursion fusions boots, both for hiking, and working during the rainy season, and consider them a good compromise between a lightweight hiking boot, and a minimalist trail runner.

I’ve been looking for a zero-drop, waterproof hiking boot for ages now, after my podiatrist suggested I make the switch to zero-drop running shoes — with Superfeet green insoles — last year (I have flat feet/collapsed arches, serious bunions, AND a narrow heel, so it’s hard to find hiking boots that fit well and work with and not against my feet).

Some zero-drop shoes don’t have enough height, after removing the original insoles and replacing them with high-arch inserts, which can aggravate my bunions something terrible. It makes the toe box feel too tight tin general.

But these didn’t have that problem — at all. Based on the reviews, I ordered a half-size larger than I usually do in hiking boots. I’m glad I did, because the toe box was roomy but not TOO roomy — like, add a pair of socks and some elevation, and you realize it’s not too roomy at all — and immediately comfortable, right out of the box.

No awkward pressure, no tightness, and (best part here) SO light and flexible to walk in. I decided to test them out over two wet weekends, in two different terrains: the first, on a flat, but slick/mossy boardwalk, and some light gravel; and the second, on rocky, uneven, wet, and occasionally muddy/snowy trail.

I’m talking lots of wet rocks, with occasional streams of inch-deep water. I was mostly looking for traction and waterproofing issues, which other reviews have mentioned; ironically, the only time I slipped was while walking on the mossy boardwalk, but I figured it would have happened in my Keens, too.

I was super pleased with how these performed on the way up to Lake 22. Normally, after a five-mile hike like that, I’d have more of an ache in my arches/around the outside of my toes. Not so with these! They carried me up and over and down a ton of wet rocks, along with some compacted snow.

Not only did I feel like there was adequate traction, I also felt like there was enough of a “barefoot” feel without feeling literally every crevice of every rock, root, or branch on the trail. I think these would actually make a good transition-to-zero-drop boot.

And while I haven’t tested these yet in a steady downpour, the pair I received at least performed well in overcast conditions with lots of standing water on the trail and wet rocks/roots. If you’re on the fence like I was, I recommend giving these a try! I think they’d make great long-distance hiking boots, too, and might even be a good option for backpackers.

I bought these boots as a lighter and more breathable alternative to the Xcursion Fusion boots that I could wear for casual and blend into trail and range/training usage. These are comfortable boots out of the box and require very minimal break in and are quick to dry when wet.

The speed laces are a very nice touch although the lace themselves could care to be a bit longer. The chevron pattern sole offers ample grip in town and on the trail and the mid height ankle coverage prevents dirt and debris from getting into the boot.

The insole is just a simple flat foam insert. There are a few things I do have to dislike though. The sole of one boot was peeling on one side shortly after I got them, which I prompted to address with some shoe adhesives.

To this day the separated part is still there but they are still wearable. The next issue is the sole. While I appreciate the zero drop and the ability to feel the ground I think these could afford to be a couple millimeters thicker, and especially enlarge and deepen the chevron patterns.

Basically I think the sole could be redesigned to last longer in some way whether it is a change in thickness, sole texture pattern, or a material change or use two materials for the sole to increase the longevity especially at the forefoot area.

Maybe that’s asking too much. Overall great boots for all around usage. I’ve owned these for about 10 months wearing them most days of each week and they still have life in them, although in its current condition I would be a bit hesitant to be wearing them on trails with soft top soil and organic matter or loose fine sediments.

When new, the so wehst shallow chevron texture is not deep enough to provide a solid grip on soft surfaces but it’s ample and acceptable than something like the Xero Denver boots. Most of the time I had Qore insoles which helped with the padding and breathability considerably, as I do hike on harsh hard volcanic rocks as well.

I purchased these in my “regular” size – 10W. Am very thankful QVC seems to have great shoes in sizes for people with larger and wider feet. I tried this shoe because I have metatarsus adductus – c-curved feet.

It was never corrected when I was a child and I only discovered the issue after I went to a podiatrist. Typically finding supportive, fashionable shoes is a royal annoyance. I have to wear custom orthotics.

Saw these and thought I would give them a try. As I was working out in them the big toe on my left foot kept bumping into the front of the shoe–hmmm. too small. But I liked all the other aspects of fit and comfort.

Sooooooooo I decided to try another pair in a 1/2 size larger. PERFECT workout shoe! I’m keeping both pairs. So if you are like me consider sizing up a 1/2 size in these. Other than that I have never had such a comfortable supportive shoe that fits my custom orthotics beautifully! Thank you, GDEFY!!! Now if you only made shoes other than athletic ones with the same support comfort.

I rarely write reviews but use them myself extensively, so I really have to submit one about these shoes. I have high arches and always get arch pain and other foot problems when walking. Not with these.

These are by far the most supportive and comfortable walking shoes (including sneakers and hiking boots!) I have ever worn. They provide several different orthotic inserts that you can try separately or put them all together, and this is the key.

You must try the different variations to get just the right fit and level of support you are looking for (read the instructions!). I ended up using all of the orthotics together and do not get the heal pain from walking that I would always get from other shoes (even Keen hiking boots, which I love, and Skechers Archfits, which I also love).

Just try them!.

I am pleased with these Mighty Walk shoes in most respects. I love the interchangeable insoles and quickly went for the “Corrective” one with arch support. They have a substantial sole, good for walking on cobblestones and not feeling every little pebble as in typical athletic shoes.

They have a very roomy toe box, which is terrific. I find them a wee bit short, and I had to go up not one but two sizes from my normal to not feel my toes touching the front inside. They are advertised as having a slight rocker bottom, but I dispute that (having worn MBTs for years).

There is a separate layer of heel material set in from the outer edge of the sole, rather than a smooth sole from heel to toe, making an odd roll-through. The light blue/grey color is reasonably neutral.

I am a big fan of zero drop shoes—I have used Alt…s for the past several years for hiking, walking, running, and traveling internationally. I needed a new versatile shoe for all those activities and Alt.

s have progressively been narrowing their toe box so I thought I’d give Xero shoes a go. After taking the online survey about which shoe is right for you and speaking extensively about sizing and usage with the extremely helpful Xero shoe rep.

I settled on the men’s Mesa trail shoe in size 7. 5 in Forest. I typically wear a women’s size 9 in an athletic or hiking shoe. I have a borderline wide foot and I walk around barefoot indoors. 1) I was hesitant about ordering the men’s size but so glad I did as it gave a little extra room for my wide foot.

2) The forest color is great! More like a greenish grey neutral which helps to blend with any outfit. 3) Super light and packable which is such a great bonus for international travel or long difficult hikes.

4) I hate to tie everyday shoes. I prefer slip ons. However, I was pleasantly surprised that I can tie these and I can slip them on and off as everyday shoes, as well as, athletic or trail shoes. Wore them throughout our recent trip to Ecuador and the Amazon.

5) They dry super quick! 6) Despite slipping them on and off without tying and untying; they stay tied! Former athletic shoes would untie unless I double knotted them and that was with tying them and untying them after every use.

7) I did not have to get used to the feel of a barefoot shoe on trails or even city side walks or build up my foot muscles. However, that’s probably from a lifetime of walking indoors and on beaches barefoot.

8) Even though these are technically trail running shoes, they are extremely versatile- great for airport travel, walking on pavement, hiking the jungle, and for trails. 9) Seem to be molding to my feet! Now for the deduction: 1) you can’t return these after you’ve worn them and I feel the only way you know if you’ve gotten the correct size is to be able to wear them a bit.

2) My big toe hits the rubber reinforcement at the top and comes close to the top of the shoe even though I purposely ordered the half size up of what I normally wear. On the Xero site there is advice about this specific issue and I have seen other reviews talking about this.

In a normal athletic shoe this would be a big no no as on a long run or arduous hike you could lose a toe nail. However, I haven’t found that to be the case with these—it just feels weird. Xero shoes even says that it is a different fit and that your big toe up against the top is normal but order another size up if that suits.

3) I have found that these shoes mold to my feet which is awesome but I still think the toe box could be a tad bigger for everyone’s feet to spread naturally—not just a wide foot. This seems to be an issue across the athletic shoe industry lately.

Overall, I love these and will definitely be buying another pair!.

While I love xero shoes products, I think I have had unfortunate results with getting quality items. I love my mesa trails, they fit great, they feel great, and they’re so comfy. I never wear shoes without socks, but I find myself slipping these on without socks pretty frequently.

But I have had bad luck with the craftsmanship of Xerox’s products. I bought a pair of z-trails, and the rubber grips on the bottom of the soles started coming of after just a few months, and the layers of the sole started separating.

They sent me a new pair and their warranty is great, but it’s frustrating. My new pair is starting to peel just a little bit already as well. When I got my mesa trails, one of the Huarache straps attached to the shoelace broke off after only a few days, while I was adjusting the laces.

And I wasn’t pulling hard at all. Again, Xeros warranty is great and they have agreed to send me a new pair, but it’s very frustrating. I don’t want a new pair, and have to wait for the process and the emails and then wait for the shipment.

I want the pair I bought to work and last. Durability and longevity is very important to me, and I want to wear a product without fear that it is going to fail or fall apart. Xero shoes states that their products are quality and meant to last, but that hasn’t been the case for me, which is why I give them 3 stars.

If I could do 3 1/2 I would. Hopefully I have just had bad luck.

All too often we are mislead and manipulated into buying products that cannot, will not and do not live up to the hype generated to trick us into buying items. Therefore, I was most certainly skeptical about these shoes.

The story about them was too good to be true and we all know how that generally ends. Alas, this time there is actual TRUTH in advertising, you CAN believe what you are reading. Perhaps some people, that have spent a lifetime duped into believing the fiction from shoes companies, will not be ale to accept the differences these “anti-shoes” offer.

If that is the case you still have thousands of types and styles to select from. However, for ME, I am thrilled and convinced that I now have what is truly intended to be on my feet. Sadly I only have the one pair, but I will be making a second pair my priority.

I must admit that the unusual appearance of XERO shoes may not be the best for certain outfits or occasions, so I will have an use “conventional” shoes when appropriate to blend in. The rest of the time I will be wearing a xero shoe because of what it does and how it makes me feel.

I am now 62 and did not believe these would work for me. They are so minimalist that I was convinced my feet were going to feel sore and tired from the lack of conventional support and “comfort” I spent a lifetime in.

I walk at least 4 miles a day for my health and felt there was NO way these simplistic foot coverings could do anything for me. I was completely WRONG. MY feet actually feel better than any of the other shoes I have used.

If you have read this much, I know you think I am being paid or coerced into saying any of this, but NO, these are my genuine thoughts and responses to my experience. KUDOS for the genius and technology to create a spectacular product like Xero shoes.

I am grateful and HOPE that someone reading my testimonial will be inspired to also give these a shot. I think you will end up like me, thrilled and literally better off because of it. Cheers to being able to trust a product and be rewarded with an excellent experience.

I am absolutely enthralled by my Z-treks, so I figured I would give Xero Shoes a chance to impress me with their closed shoe models. I was further convinced my an online review that touted these shoes as an excellent all-purpose travel shoe.

I am unfortunately quite disappointed with the Oswego. However, this might just be due to my personal preferences regarding what I look like in a barefoot shoe. First, the sole feels much thicker and more rigid than expected (and that’s after taking out the insole).

A pair of barefoot winter boots I have (not by Xero) feels much thinner and lighter in comparison. A shoe like this should not feel less “barefoot” than a boot designed for winter snow! Second, the Oswego seems to have been designed with the insole in mind, meaning that when you take it out, the shoe becomes more loose-fitting and just feels awkward.

I find that it loses some of the bareefoot feel without the insole as I have to adjust my gait to keep my feet from slipping and sliding inside the shoe. This problem is solved by using the insole, but then the trade-off is that shoe feels even less “barefoot”.

Third, the material used for the lining does not seem to be very breathable, at least not as breathable as I personally need it to be. This means that I have to wear a good thick pair of wool socks to absorb the sweat.

This may not be a big deal for some, but I was hoping to be able to wear these without socks. The upside is that it seems quite sturdy, which, in theory, could make it a great all-purpose travel shoe, equally good for hiking as it is for strolling around in a city.

It is also very comfortable when I wear socks and use the insole, it does not irritate the heel (something I have a lot of problems with), and it feels like I could walk in them for hours. However, I sense that by their design, there is a bit more of a tendency to walk on the heels than there is with, say, the Z-treks or even with the winter boots I mentioned above.

Xero make some excellent products. My Z-treks are fantastic and I would not recommend any other “barefoot” sandal to anyone. However, these Oswegos just do not work for me. It doesn’t mean it’s a bad shoe, it just mean it’s not what I personally look for in a barefoot shoe.

I’m glad I got them on a sale ($39. 99), because I really won’t be using them much.

This was my third Xero shoes purchase and the first online purchase, since the brand was new to me and had interested my life from 2019, however I was a little skeptical and long term hesitant about getting one online, because first I was in state of skepticism not certain of getting a decent and/or new product while shopping online, second because the name was new to me as I said and mostly because we’ve had not so beautiful experiences with many online store including current famous names as sometimes their associates throw a worn products on us, mailing us with ill spirit and disappointing us in ways were NOT expected.

XeroShoes really surprised me with its level of honesty, excellence and transparency by taking care of me while absent and send me a new product that was perfectly fit and very comfortable, which encouraged me to get another pair for my twin sister.

Bought these for everyday walks. I have been wearing the 847V3 size 8 extra wide for several years. First I tried the 840V5 in my size but had to return them because they were too tight, the tongue was too long and the shoelaces too short.

Then I purchased the 840V3 in a larger size( 8 1/2 extra wide) based on my 840V5 experience. They did fit but the inside seam near my small toe was very irritating and I had to return them also. Wish New Balance would bring back the 847V3-a true to size sneaker without any irritation since there is mesh on top of toe area.

By the way at the New Balance store my foot measures 8 normal width but that has never been the case in any sneaker I have purchased. Been wearing New Balance for over 20 years.

I have been purchasing NB for years because they are the only shoe that provides appropriate support for my arches. My last was this shoe v2 in 8 1/2 2E. It felt perfect after trying a couple of other sizes so I purchased this model in the same size in white.

The heel of the shoe is lower in v3 and the interior wall padding feels thicker. The overall size and feel of the shoe is slimmer than v2 which leads me to wonder if I needed to size up. The toe box appears larger from an external view point, but inside feels more cramped.

The side walls of the narrower, but could be due to thicker padding. I will be keeping this pair to see how they break in, but next order may go up 1/2 size.

My husband walks 3-5 miles every day. He had the MW840v2, so when those wore out after about a year, we ordered the MW840v3. We had reservations because usually the new versions of shoes do not fit correctly.

Sadly, we were right: The v3 shoes do not fit properly. The heel is not tall enough, and with every step my husband felt the shoes flopping up and down on his heel. He could not, even with using all of the lacing holes, get the shoes to stay on his feet.

So, we returned the shoes. The return was easy, and we got all our money back. Thanks for making that process a pleasant one. Hubby is now trying a different style altogether. We shall see.

I have bought vivobarefoot shoes religiously for years. I was buying this shoe again since I loved it much because I was worried it would go out of stock. After I tried the new pair on I realized the sole had a different cut than before and it doesn’t fit my foot as nice.

The forefoot is narrower and no longer shapes around the big toe as well. These shoes no longer feel that they take the natural shape of a foot, which vivobarefoot has been known for. I noticed the print of the size in the tongue was different as well so I’m guessing they have a different manufacturer.

My other recent vivobarefoot purchases have been just as disappointing. I hope vivobarefoot will correct this and go back to their original cut of the sole, otherwise I’m afraid I will no longer be buying their products.

Aight so the photos are kind of dating catfishy. Unless you are *really* into feet, in which case the design is potentially riveting. They are foot shaped to a fault. I’ve put about 10 miles on them.

Pretty good. Great feel and power transfer. Uppers are more solid than I thought and the reinforcement engineering is clutch. Good and tight around the lace up so stones don’t get into the shoes. Build quality is evident.

Unfortunately, I realized that they look like Gumby, see attached. But if you’re a function over fashion kind of person, I’d say this is an elite shoe.

Remarkable, improved experience with lifting weights. I am 71 years of age and I have been weight lifting for over 15 years as part of my care plan for aging well. The program I do involves 1. Squats 2.

Snatch grip deadlifts 3. Dead lifts 4. Press I feel overwhelmingly grounded. Your product is extraordinary. My daughter who lives in England sent me your product details. Initially I felt it was too expensive however after experiencing how positive my training became, IT WAS WORTH EVERY CENT.

First time wearing a barefoot shoe and absolutely loving these Geo Racers. Took a couple of short walks to get used to the feel on concrete but totally fine now. I have always spent most of my day barefoot on my slate floors so this has helped.

I love the look and feel of this shoe – very lightweight and comfortable. The shoes were a large fit. I am usually a size 42 and got a size 41 in this style.

Great colour, nice and bright, my wife, who I bought the shoes for loves them. She gets lots of compliments and comments about them.

I been researching this product for sometime now , when I seen Alex smith on an advertisement I was finally push over the top,to make a purchase. I suffer with a serious bad back,neck, and I also have RSD! My legs are always in pain 24/7,so I am always looking for something to help with the pain/getting some relief.

Up to this moment nothing has helped ,there is nothing out on the market as far as medication or a machine of any kind that is a cure,or that is made to relieve pain. So with that said I decided to make this purchase and give another product a chance to see if it would help with a little release from the leg pain and back pain.

My purchase came in on a Saturday about a week ago; the day they came my legs were really bad with pain I was having trouble walking ect. I unpacked the flip flops and right away put them on; with in minutes I was receiving relief from my pain ,the longer I wore them the better my legs felt, it was a unbelievable moment with in a short period of time I was experiencing NO PAIN ! I have been looking for anything over the years and god knows I spent so much money over the years looking for anything that would give me even a little relief; nothing ! Until now it has been a week ,maybe a little over a week and the longer I have these Oofos flip flops on the better my legs, feet ,and my back felt better; and my leg pain is pretty much non existent! I still can’t believe it; so I took them off and wore my regular sneakers / shoes and just the opposite started happening my leg pain came back with in minutes I couldn’t believe the difference versus with and without my Oofos flips flops on my feet it was a MOMENT! I am pretty sure I finally found some relief after 25YEARS of suffering with this RSD pain let alone my back issues ! I am still thinking or looking over my shoulder waiting for the bomb to drop and this great relief I been experiencing was just a temporary thing! So far as I stated earlier I do not want to take these Oofos flips flops OFF! The only issue I have is I am kicking myself where the sun don’t shine for not purchasing these Oofos flip flops a lot sooner! Let me start off by saying that oofos customer service is amazing and I really appreciate their first class support. This rating, however, is all about the shoe. I first purchased the size 7 bc there were no half sizes offered and only a few reviews recommended to size up.

I usually go with whatever the majority review is. I’m a true 7. 5 with a normal foot width and slightly high arch. The 7s were great except at the toe box- my poor pinky toes were crammed and sore. I returned them and ATTEMPTED to exchange for 7.

5. I received confirmation and everything was good. Until I received a refund later. Called the awesome CS and they explained it must have been out of stock- fine ok- I’ll just repurchase the 8s since some people sized up anyway.

Now the toe box is fine but my HEELS are blistered from how hard the backing is and where it lands on my foot. I see 7. 5 is back in stock but I’m unable to return the 8s since I’ve worn them outside plus I had to pay $5 for a box to return the last pair since they ship in plastic and their box is not approved.

All-in-all I would say size up if you’re unsure or wear different sizes in each brand but if you’re a true size like I am maybe stick with your actual size and see if that’s any better. I really do appreciate oofos’ CS and discount offers for veterans and nurses and will hopefully find a different style later on.

I have only tried them on a couple of times yet, but I bought this pair 1/2 size larger than my first pair because my second toe is a bit longer than my big toe, and the only way I could comfortably wear them was barefoot [which is very nice in summer]–with socks they rubbed against the toe end.

I am sure these new ones will be like the others which feel like I am walking on air. The only problem (other than the size) is that I can easily stub my toes walking on the sidewalk because of the straight up-and-down frame of the shoe over the toes–which may also be because I sometimes have a problem raising one of my feet a little higher from the ground when I step forward.

[Thankfully I have never yet fallen because of it]. I am not sure what difference the strap over the front of the ankle on the new shoes will make. After wearing my old ones walking on the City sidewalks for a year [except in winter and wet weather], the tread marks on the sole of the shoe have worn down some, but they still have lots of wear left.

Also, unlike every other pair of canvas shoes I have ever worn, my big toes have not come through on the top to make a hole. This canvas is ultra durable. Only when fall comes and I have to wear socks, will I start wearing the new shoes.

The old ones still have lots of wear left in them.

As the title implies, I have been making my own footwear (minimalist, primitive, period, etc. ) for some time now and never imagined I would actually be buying shoes again. Unfortunately, I encountered a perfect storm of four older pairs failing at once for various reasons in the same week, having to spend over $300 on additional materials to make enough to replace them all since I was nearly out, and just not having enough time to sit and stitch that many by hand.

So I went looking for alternatives and stumbled across Xero’s site while they were having a sale. After reading a bunch of reviews, I took a chance on the Prios since they were one of the items on sale and their lacing system is similar to that of the turnsoles I liked to wear the best.

(Honestly, Xero’s setup may be a little better. ) After a week of breaking them in, they are now the only shoes besides what I make for myself that I don’t feel the need to get off my feet once I am done for the day.

The only complaint I have about fit and feel is that the materials used on the uppers keep my feet a bit on the warm side. It’s not bad enough to remove a star in my opinion though. I intend to use these as ‘daily drivers’ along with the surviving pair of loafers I made in October of last year.

If they last and wear well enough, I will happily buy another pair of Prios when these begin to die. Other thoughts: Most of the bad reviews I’ve read concern either durability and sole separation, or fit and feel.

I’ve long been accustomed to low stack, low rise footwear, as opposed to ‘normal’ shoes, so the Prios feel quite nice to me. If you’ve never worn shoes like these before, you might need to ease into them.

Once you get used to this kind of shoe, you probably will not want to go back to ‘normal’ shoes either. As for durability, I am concerned about that; not with the soles themselves, but with the uppers and the adhesives used to glue them down.

If I’m spending this much on footwear, then I am expecting a good service life from them. I’ve never known vegan and/or manufactured materials to last as long and age as gracefully as well cared for leather.

(I’ve gotten up to eight years with resoling mine for example. ) I was still willing to give these a try despite those misgivings since Xero does appear to honor their warranties, plus I know how to care for footwear and could likely effect a repair if they chose not to for some odd reason.

(A tube of Shoe Goo and some large binder clips will take care of a separating sole for example. ) I’m not going to knock them for a ‘possibility’ though, so the Prios get five stars. (Pic shows the new Prios alongside the loafers.

I ordered and received a pair of the Youth 4 Prio, but they were way too small for my son’s feet. I emailed Xero about the issue and asked for help. They promptly replied with instructions on their exchange process and a note that the Women’s 6 is a half size larger than the Y4.

This is where things started going downhill. Without knowing how their size relates to actual length, I didn’t feel like I had the necessary information to pick the correct size. So I measured my son’s feet, sent them the measurements, and asked for a recommendation on which size to choose.

They responded that they don’t give out size recommendations based on 2 dimensional measurements. They also noted that they have templates available for their sandals, but those templates don’t work for the Prio so they don’t recommend using them.

I didn’t have any way of sending them a 3 dimensional model of my son’s foot and I didn’t want to continue with the trial and error approach that they seem to favor, so I asked them for the dimensions of the insole for the Women’s 6.

Review after 1. 5 years: They helped me a lot to strengthen my legs. Knee pain stopped. I walk, run and hike with them. I got used to them quickly and now I do not change them. They are suitable for all soils with excellent adhesion and very light.

They are very resistant to sharp stones, thorns and even glasses. They are very breathable and dry very quickly. They fit perfectly and their comfort is unmatched by anything else. I also bought the V-Trek 2.

0 Insulated for the winter. They initially helped me recover after knee surgery and now I exercise regularly with better performance than before. They changed my mind about sneakers.

this is my 3rd v run. i have been using v run for all my training run ranging from 5k all the way to marathon distance. though this shoe may not produce the best racing performance, but as a trainer, this shoe promote good running form and excellent terrain interpretation.

one can alter ,our lean, cadence and stride length naturally depending on incline, slop and bent of the terrain. to me this is the best “feel good” shoe one can invest on.

My feet made me purchase 3 pairs: 2 Brenston’s & 1 Bramford. • Looks like a ‘proper’ dress shoe that are actually comfortable while walking and standing. • Durable leather construction. • Firm yet softness throughout shoe.

• Provide right amount of traction with light cushioning. • Heel is not stiff- no rubbing nor blistering. • Locked in feel with no break in period.

The shoes are amazing. The best thing you could do is not change anything, and keep to your same quality standards. I began wearing minimalist shoes about six months ago. i didn’t think they were perfect, but preferred them to traditional footwear.

I wanted to find something with the benefits of a minimalist shoe, with just a little more support. Some companies thought that zero drop with a much thicker rubber sole would be the answer. It was not the answer, because those felt squishy and unstable.

I love the look, and feel, of these shoes. Birchbury has the solution. Thank you, so much, for doing it right. The shoes are a pleasure to wear, and very versatile.

I love everything about these shoes except the fact that they fell apart before the six month mark. Granted, I only own one pair of each type of shoe I wear. These were worn about 5 days a week on average.

At first, it was just the stitching which was weak. The leather uppers are great so I considered having the soles restitched to the uppers at a local cobbler. (Yes, there is still one in Santa Fe, NM).

Luckily, before I could waste the money the entire sole shredded. I was hoping to replace Keen in my life because they never last a full year. Birchbury’s six months certainly are the answer. Get them if you want a once-a-week-to-Church shoe.

The first ones I ordered were too large so I reordered a smaller pair and they fit perfect. I needed a lower heal in order to walk comfortably. I used a sealer to spray them so the winter weather would not destroy the look.

They are great to wear with pants or a nice dress. I totally made the right choice.

They are very comfortable. I’m on my feet 10 hours daily at work and I can wear these mules comfortably thru my shift. They’re stylish and look very nice on my wide width feet, I order the black first and liked them so much I ordered the grey and brown.

Ordered mens 6. 5 D. It is a womens shoe, with the “Fit 4 Her” tag attached to it. So it runs too narrow around the midfoot. Toebox was almost wide enough for my wide feet and bunions, but painfully tight around the midfoot.

These are definitely racing flats-no cushion and the fabric is very thin. Comes with 2 insoles, both are thin. Together they are thinner than a normal insole. Don’t think they will last very long. The vent holes on the toebox are large, unless you wear black socks, the color will show through like polka-dots.

Returning.

Although I have not had opportunity for serious sprint work, the shoes have a unique toe box that I have never experienced. It has a feel of freedom, and yet has fine support. I am a “neutral runner,” so have been able to wear the lightest racers.

I look forward to some warmer weather so I can “cut loose. ” This is my first pair of Altra shoes.

I am going to update my review once I put some miles in, but just want to comment on the sizing for now. I wear a size 13 Altra Escalante. A size 14 Vanish-R is almost the exact same dimensions. I don’t know if this means size up by a whole size, but if you happen to wear a size 13 Escalante, hope this helps.

I’ve worn these shoes for 2 weeks. Bought them to wear at work because I’m on my feet a lot and the reviews sounded like they were comfortable. I have to disagree. I was adding extra thick cushioned insoles by the end of the 1st week because they were already hurting the bottom of my feet.

Normally I don’t need to add cushioned insoles until shoes are 3 to 4 months old. I wish shoe makers would stop pushing Memory Foam or Propet’s Ortholite footbed as some sort amazing thing. It’s not.

A quarter in thick piece of foam instantly turns literally paper thin as soon as a grown adult stands up making it completely useless and a marketing joke. I’m out $100 and it will be the last $100 Propet gets from me.

Very comfortable and lightweight. Fits nice. Support seems good. Only concern is potential durability. Cover material is thin around the toe area. Doesn’t look cheap, just thin. Hopefully that is okay because I do like the heal strike area, it cradles well and cushions very nicely.

I have always had difficulty getting the proper fit for shoes until I came upon the Healthy Foot Store. Their video on how to measure your feet was outstanding. Because I wear the thicker white socks I measured my feet with the socks; that’s all it took.

They are very comfortable though I’m disappointed in the quality in relation to the cost of $100+. I’m still blown away how a minimalist shoe without all the fancy stuff cost that much! Originally I thought the shoes were made in America which they are not, they are made in China.

After less than a year I wore through the original insoles and then the company was out of stock for months. When I finally was able to order new insoles and wear them again I was pleased until the mesh area started getting holes and I’m starting to see heavy wear on other parts.

Lems shoes Primal 2 are my first pair of barefoot shoes! And it feels really good! 🙂 Very glad about this decision, to get them! The shoe is exactly what I expected, well made and fashionable. Next best thing to bare foot. And the purchase went without a hitch, delivered right to my door. Fit was as expected.

I really wanted to love this boot, but it’s not quite for me. THE GOOD: – A genuinely rugged sole that doesn’t slip and won’t wear down fast. I’ve tried other barefoot hiking boots (like vivobarefoot), and the tread was too thin and fast-wearing–I slid all over leaves and mud compared to my conventionally-shod companions.

I’ll keep them just for this – The width! I got the wide size, and this is probably the only shoe that is actually shaped to accommodate the ball of my foot. It’s still not quite wide in the right spots (there’s a weird empty spot by the toe and you can see the laces are stretched at the last hole), but it’s closer than anything else.

THE BAD – Effectively, these aren’t waterproof. The absence of a gusset in the tongue makes a huge difference. My socks get soaked just walking through dewy grass or stepping through a puddle. Getting gaiters might help with this, but I haven’t tried.

-Even though the tops are pure fabric and flexible, somehow the cut and rigidity of the fabric still gives a weird tight uncomfortable feeling. I had to stop lacing up around my ankles because it felt quite restrictive.

I wish I had waited for the leather; I think this would have helped some with this. -Ugliness. I really never want to wear these for anything but hiking, while I used to use my leather hikers for other situations.

Overall, I love the shape and sole of these shoes, but they aren’t perfect yet.

Bought my set in the first run (Oct 2021), and they’ve been great. Have been using them in warm Queensland, Australia, and believe it or not, they’ve been working fine in the heat. Even wore them out to Mt Isa for a week (Dry 45degC/113degF heat) hiking around in the bush for work.

The great points: – Wide fit is excellent, works very well for me with my long 4th toe, and my big toe can actually be straight/splay inwards (a big peeve I had with the Lems shape). Lightweight and flexy upper is great, going to go to a snugger fit since the shape is so good and they’re so flexible.

– Construction is solid, zero build issues. Their construction will mean that any seams that go will be repairable. – Sole grip is outstanding. Mechanically grippy lugs, and chemically grippy soft rubber.

No excessive wear, still standing up fine after regular use for 3 months, but it is a softer rubber, so don’t expect it to last for years with heavy use. But, it’s resoleable, so that’s not a problem! Notes on some of the common points: – People gripe about the toe box tapering down.

They fail to realize that the leather trim around the toebox will break in and stretch slightly, and relieve that. The Superfabric doesn’t stretch, but the leather does. Pretty much all shoes have a break in period.

If my next smaller pair break in like this pair has, they’ll be great. – The lack of a gusseted tongue is. a shame, it can let water, dust, dirt and debris in, but I’ve been living with it. It does mean you can open the shoe up better for it to dry out fast though.

Overall, they’re expensive, like most minimalist footwear, but they’re one of the first pairs where I feel like the cost is actually worthwhile. Honestly, I hope the next iteration only has a gusset tongue as a change, everything else is pretty much spot on.

Pros: Wide, zero drop, Vibram soles with good tread, bomb-proof upper material. Neutral: the lack of toe volume doesn’t bother me much, although I have yet to wear them in really cold weather where I’ll need thick socks.

Cons: Why would someone from the PNW design a cool-to-cold weather shoe and not gusset the tongue?!?! Water comes in easily and immediately in anything wetter than a strong dew. Since the upper material is waterproof but not very breathable (claims to the contrary notwithstanding), water that comes in stays in.

I suspect the wool lining contributes to them not drying quickly. The lack of breathability makes the shoe too hot for temps much above the 60’s, which means spring, fall, and winter… when it does what in the PNW? RAINS! The lack of tongue gusset also means that trail dirt gets in badly.

After a dusty day hike my feet are covered in dirt, and yes, I was wearing socks plus pants that cinch over the top of the boot. Nits: I would love it if they did half sizes so I wouldn’t have to get the wide size as a compromise.

They glue the wool insole to the bottom of the shoe. Who does that? I replaced the wool insole with a superfeet Insole, and had to rip the wool insole to do so. Some kind of minimal collar around the ankle would be useful for comfort and keeping trail debris out.

I really love these shoes. They were comfortable from the outset with no break in period necessary, although the sensation of the zero drop does take a little getting used to. I usually suffer weeks of blisters on my little toe with new golf shoes, but the wide toe box avoids this completely without looking obviously wide.

They have proved to be completely waterproof on sodden winter courses and there is plenty of grip in the wet. The white toe box also cleans up very easily after a muddy round. The sole is quite firm which offers fantastic support on the steep course I play by not allowing my foot to roll downhill inside the shoe.

This has helped reduce post match knee pain considerably. I do wish that the shoe had typical lace holes all the way up instead of the fabric loop right at the top. Pulling my laces tight feels very abrasive through the loop and I see that as a potential weak spot- either the loop breaking or cutting through my shoe lace.

Apart from that, I can’t fault these shoes.

So let me start by saying I love every pair of True shoes I currently own, my masks, my T-shirts, my towel, my socks, all of it. The only model shoes I haven’t tried we’re the OG line mainly because from the pictures they looked to be rigid and for lack of a better term not as “slipper like” as my others.

When I finally decided to try these I opened the bag with excitement but was kinda like “ehh” when I looked at them. In fairness I did realize they weren’t rigid like I previously feared and they were much lighter than I anticipated.

What really stood out was the wide toe box and that threw me off, I felt like I was looking at a very high quality clown shoe. Then suddenly something happened that resulted in a jolt of adrenaline, like seeing the cops parked in a sneaky space as you drive down the street a little faster than normal.

I slipped these bad boys on my feet and stood up! BANG, SOLD! Order another color, get me more! Holy $*#@! where’s the Tylenol? I guess years of cramming my feet into narrow ended swooshes has programmed my melon into thinking these were way worse than they really are.

To quote Richard Marx, I Should’ve Known Better, True shoes are the highest quality, most comfortable shoes, not just golf shoes you can buy. Please forgive me for thinking they looked like clown shoes at first, it was the swoosh, they’ve been brainwashing me since 1972 but no more.

Do yourself a favor, taking your phalanges and scroll up, click your size, and add to cart. You will not be sorry! Next up, the OG Feels!.

I like the concept and design. This is my second pair. The tongue/heel loops are too flimsy to really help with putting the shoe on. They feel like they will tear at any moment. They use a sock style design and I have to use a shoehorn to get my foot in.

Once in, they are comfortable. I believe the sizing runs a half size smaller than listed. The shoelaces are very course and hard to pull through the eyelets. They are also waaay too long for the shoe.

Must double knot to keep from stepping on the laces. Zero drop sole is very comfortable and the spikeless design is very effective for traction.

My current shoe was a Nike Zoom Vomero 10 with Superfeet orthotics in a size US 6. 5. I initially bought the same size 6. 5 Cloud waterproof and they were too short and too narrow even without orthotics.

The return process was easy and the size 7 arrived and are a perfect fit. The sole traps certain big stones and there is some fine gravel that finds it’s way into the shoe (rail trail walking) but overall they are really comfy.

Can’t wait for the rain to test out the waterproofness!.

As a nurse who works 12hr shifts, I need comfortable shoes to walk on all day. Purchasing these was the best decision ever! They are light and they support my arches, and I can walk in them all day without foot pain.

I have narrow feet. I believe these shoes would be best for those with narrow to medium sized feet. I have three pairs, two for work and a pair that I wear to the gym. I often get a lot of compliments on them.

It’s a no from me. I decided to size up half a size after reading the previous reviews and that still wasn’t enough. I have very narrow feet and even with sizing going up, these shoes were still so tight leaving indents on the top of my foot.

On top of them being tight they were super hard and loud. Whenever I walked it sounded like I was ripping velcro apart. Overall just wouldn’t recommend and I really don’t get the hype. These will be returned.
