18 Best Year 3Rd Gen 4Runner (2023 Updated)

Kit and individual parts on par with what you would expect from magnaflow, fit and finish shows time and attention to detail. Unfortunately though, multiple parts arrived damaged. The muffler assembly arrived with the angled tailpipe connection flattened from constantly being bashed against the ground during transit.

On the other side of the box was the pipe section with two studs for the oxygen sensor that was also packaged inadequately and bent the studs over. I purchased from a 3rd party website I will not name that specializes in only toyota stock and custom parts and the constant back and forth to get this fixed has taken over a month with no clear solution or attempt from Magnaflow to help the situation.

Randomly I start getting notes from UPS saying they had missed me and would attempt pickup the next business day, but for what they came to pickup, I wasnt clear and finally after they came three days in a row, they just left a shipping label behind and I saw it was to recover the entire kit.

I was one of the first people to be placed on the first order for this kit in November with a December ETA; Ended up taking until late february to get the kit, and now they want the entire kit back with zero communication of what comes next or how long it would take to send the replacement as I see they are still out of stock.

Considering Magnaflow will not provide the individual replacement parts (they made that clear to my purchasing website) and the possibility of months waiting again for another kit to get sent , I will be simply be using a local speed-shop who can weld stainless to fix the kit.

This did not need to be drawn out over 4 months, and could have been fixed quickly sending my broken parts back for repair or replacement.

The hardest part is having the patience to take your time removing your old exhaust. I had my catalytic converter stolen and they cut through the exhaust too so I went for the full replacement from MagnaFlow.

Using the NDT tube it sounds great, its loud but not overbearing and very quiet at idle. Highly recommended for any 3rd gen 4runner upgrade.

Was very impressed on how quickly and easily the Overland Series installed. After cutting off the original 98 4Runner exhaust system, the new system bolted right up. The hangers mounted perfectly. Had to cut the nuts for the O2 Sensor, so more time was spent looking for metric nuts than it did to install the exhaust.

Have not yet tried the three options for sound, but the mildly aggressive sound good. Definitely recommend this product.

This lift looked high quality but it was not as easy to install as some people have said. It took me 10 hours and i had to rent some tools like a spring compressor and ball joint remover. My truck is 11 years old so take that in consideration because nothing came of easy, everything broke because it was rusted together.

I also had to use a torch to heat things up. The truck looks good but I think it did made the ride a little more bounci. Over all good product but if you have an older vehicle seek a mechanic’s help.

I also had to have it realigned so i ended up spending twice as much as i planned.

Install took me a total of about 8 hours. I split it up into two days. This is a two man job. I highly reccomend air tools. I used a hand socket wrench to take of most of the nuts and it was near impossible.

It looks good afterwards and it is the best deal for a lift for this truck. But installation is very hard, make sure you know what youre doing before you start.

After hitting a deer, who’s horns carved out the right corner of the front bumper on my girl’s 4Runner, I decided a grill guard was in order. A little more protection might help prevent spending another $1000 bucks to her insurance company.

I didn’t want to add 60+ pounds on it’s already smooshed down looking nose. So the leveling kit seemed a good cheap alternative to a full suspension mod. Concerns about Xreas shocks and changes in the vehicle’s dynamics and ride were foremost.

I’m happy to report the Toyota rides great, just a little bit stiffer maybe. The handling is very nearly the same as stock. The truck looks the way Toyota should have made it. When her tires wear out (it’s gonna be awhile, they’re new Michelins) I’ll go up one size in aspect ratio (65 to 70) since they’ll fit, and that’ll give it just a little more ground clearance.

No real issues on the install, but it’s tedious and time consuming when you’ve just got a floor jack, a good spring compressor, and no air-power. A good repair shop could knock it out in a couple of hours if you can afford it, took us six.

Be sure to get a alignment afterward. I installed a diff drop kit just to be on the safe side. Overall. well worth it.

I gained a little more height than expected. Nice surprise. Installation wasn’t bad. Would be a lot easier with 2 people. Remember to remove brake line brackets. Stock brake lines don’t allow suspension to drop enough.

2004 toyota 44runner.

This is a fairly simple way to level out the front of the truck without impacting the ride. Installation wasn’t too bad – it makes a good weekend project. My only complaint was that diagrams/pictures that came with the instructions weren’t that good, but there are plenty of instructions on line that made up for it.

High-quality leveling kit that won’t break the bank. Installed on a 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD off-road. Shipping was fast and included everything you need 2″ spacers for the front and 3/4″ spacers for the rear and a couple of stickers.

The instructions came on a QR code that you need to scan and were not the greatest. Just search Blue Collar Garage on YouTube. He has a video that makes installation a breeze. Currently running 265/70r17 tires but should have no problem upgrading to 285/70r17 thanks to this kit.

My search that lead me to Rough Country was for a leveling kit. I thought that it said leveling kit when I ordered, but maybe not. Looking at pics, reviews etc I though leveling. Took it to a shop to have it installed and now I have a lifted 4 Runner that still looks like it’s pointing downhill.

Presently do not like it. Think I wasted $1000 on purchase and install at this point. May try to remove the rear lift and see how it looks. TBD.

I ordered the first kit and it was missing one of the strut spacers up front, I let customer service know and they had a replacement kit to me in 2 days. Awesome service! Problem is they sent a replacement kit and it was also missing one strut spacer, weird!!! You guys may need to check your packaging department.

Overall great experience and I will be back to buy the front bumper and winch for my wife’s 4 runner.

Another great product from Toyota. The install was easy, the included instructions were comprehensive and easy to follow. The kit comes with absolutely everything you’ll need to install. I haven’t noticed any great fuel economy gains.

but the intake really puts a pep in my FJ’s step. acceleration is definitely better, and under any amount of throttle, this intake really allows the old engine to breathe. the sound is impressive.

The Trd cold air intake, first impressions, its nicely packaged instructions are easy use and detailed, after driving for a Few km I can notice a defiantly sound difference at 4000 RPM, but anything under that Its hard to notice, The Trd logos on the air filter box looks sharp, I have noticed a slight gain in horsepower at higher RPM.

The price on this cold air intake was a Liitle steep I paid to much your paying for the Trd name, over all I give this cold air intake a 7 out of 10.

This was installed in conjunction with a Borla cat-back exhaust system on my 2017 4Runner. The end result was just what i wanted. an aggressive growl when you punch down hard and minimal rumble otherwise.

There is no drone at highway speeds at all. perfect setup. There also is a marked improvement on response — not throw you back into the seat improvement but an improvement nonetheless -.

I bought these to replace some Icon UCA’s that were on my 98 4runner. The previous owner lifted it (about 2-3″) and it drove terribly! I got these and followed the alignment suggestions that they include and it tracks great! The big selling point for me was the adjustability and the instructions! Because alignments are one thing that I typically have a shop do, and if it’s not OEM a lot of times they don’t really know what to do with it! They slid right in, the ball joint design is really nice and they provide torque specs! Overall quite pleased with them and for a street rig, I wouldn’t buy anything else! If you are racing Baja or something, it would probably be better not to have the adjustment to kock loose.

but for going down the highway its a must have!.

Excellent reusable filter element, used by the likes of F1 teams in professional racing. Well built, no fitment issues. Sounds slightly better, freer breathing, could be slightly more competitively priced against some of its other competitors.

Great product for my 2002 Tacoma gives complete adjustment to get my alignment perfectly and allows for a bigger lift or tires if I ever want thanks summit racing for yet another amazing product

Just finished up the installation. I’ll try to remember to update this review when I’m able to go on a test drive (I’ll wheel it, too, and let yall know how that goes). The rear springs and shocks were easy to install since I had a couple of buddies “convincing” the new parts with massive prybars.

The front was a different story; extremely aggravating and it REALLY felt like it was maxing out the travel. At full droop, the spindle on the passenger side contacts the spring of the front strut, and the stock UCA contacts with my 265/75/16 tires on both sides.

Stock brake lines in the rear were EXTREMELY flexed(changed with $60 upgraded lines from wheelers), and the front definitely needs a diff drop kit ($20-30 on amazon). I planned on replacing the upper ball joints, but that’s not going to cut it.

going to replace the UCA’s with JBA high casters. In summary, this kit DOES lift your 4runner. Does a good job of it. The 2. 5-3″ lift looks fantastic. HOWEVER, make sure you have an additional ~$1k set aside for UCA’s, lower ball joints, end links, diff drop kit, and extended brake lines.

I wish I knew the final cost before I got started, but it’s all good. 4runner looks better than ever.

I am very happy with the ride, drive and feel of this kit. After installing it though I needed a track bar correction bracket which was not included. I called customer service to ask about the bracket or an adjustable track bar and they insisted that neither was needed….

If you put the lift kit on a stock 4Runner, like me, then yet you will need either a correction bracket or adjustable bar, which does not come with the kit. With out this option your rear diff will be way out of alignment and it will be impossible to align the tires and suspension.

Overall the kit is great, but it’s not complete with out an option for your track bar.

I installed the front and actually am going to hold off on the rear for now. The front spacers leveled out my truck nicely and it has a great stance. Also I didn’t need the dif drop, my cv angles and everything is all basic the same.

There is plenty of clearance now for the 265/70/17s A. T. Goodyear wranglers that will go in this weekend. Also my ride quality is absolutely the same so I’d say thumbs up for this kit. I’ll post more pics if I end up putting on the rear blocks, but for now I’m keeping it the way it is.

I wanted to raise the rear of my truck 1″ and the front 2″ to bring it close to level but still allow for some load sag in the back. This kit did the trick. The quality of the components is good, installation was pretty straight forward.

My only disappointment is the shackle bolts are WAY too long. Supreme Suspensions did send me replacements but they too are 1 1/2″ too long. Not what I expected from Suspension Specialists and a vehicle specific kit.

Easy enough install in my driveway, took about 4 hours by myself. Really happy with how it turned out. Did have one piece of hardware that was sent to me incorrect-one locknut for the diff drop was the wrong size but I had a correct sized one in my stash so it wasn’t a biggie.

I did have to also install the ECGS clamshell bushing to replace the factory front diff needle bearing afterward but that too was no huge task and only a $60 part from east coast gear. Really happy with the lift kit!.

The kit contents looks nicely made. Only reason I gave it 4 star and not a 5 is that there is very little in the way of special instructions. The blocks for the rear say to remove any existing blocks which the truck had stock and were the same size so I just didnt bother with the rear blocks.

The torsion bars took some research. They definitely did not want to come out and almost all forums had people giving up, cutting them out or going around by dropping wntire front end assembly with the bars and cross members intact.

I found 1 guy who had a decent idea, said to get a demolition hammer (which I already had) and hammer on them with a blunted point. However, that did not work by itself, I needed to use and oxyacetylene torch to heat them, spray with PB Blaster while it was red hot so it would suck it into the frozen joint, reheat with the torch and hammer away.

The keys came out readily with the hammer but the rods took some serious heat and hammering. Also, I’m pretty sure the front shovks need to be replaced with a slightly (1-2”) longer version at this point since the new ones I bought would not go in until I relaxed the tension on the new torsion key as far as I could in order to mount the new stock replacement shock.

So I did not end up needing the u bolts or the blocks in this kit and the truck looks level now.

The level kit delivered fast and with no issue. The video was not for truck but a quick Google search and install was done pretty easy. I did an alternate method of install but the end result was the same.

I like the ride much better and did not aim the headlights as now they seem to be more aimed than when they were stock and I can actually see what is in front of me versus the ground. The fit was good with a professional look and no ill fitting issues anywhere.

The quality is why I bought this product, it just looks solid I like the look of the product. Bang for my buck? It put a smile on my face!.

There are a few places that there is the potential to damage the components. When trying to install the front shocks,p with the pucks installed, be sure to press out the anchoring boots on the lower bracket and reinstall once in.

Pretty certain I damaged my CV joint and hub when attempting to do it all together, but she won’t fit. Also when doing the rear end raise, be sure to scribe or paint mark the original position of bracket to axel.

Installing the new spacer and having your axel shifted will cause your rear end to walk out while driving. Install took a whole afternoon for me by myself, you’ll need a jack to help lower and raise components and jackstands to keep the truck on.

Watch your YouTube videos so you have a general idea of what lines to remove before diving in. Very pleased with this raise, it’s nothing too noticeable but definitely better than stock.

I have these wheels on my Lexus GX470 and they are awesome quality wheels. They are very well made and also pretty light weight, not to mention super attractive. The finish on them is excellent. I highly recommend!.

These guys answered all my questions and assured me that the wheels I was ordering would fit perfectly on my 2014 Tacoma. They arrived when they said with no issues noted. Might add they were 118. 00 per wheel cheaper than my local Toyota dealership.

I will definitely be using them in the future. Job well done guys !!.

I live in California and recieved my wheels in less than a week! they are exactly what I wanted and were the cheapest ones around. The only thing that could have been better was the Fedex shipping. If you aren’t there for a direct signature its a pain but very efficient and easy!.

These things are perfect! I love them! I wish black lugnuts came with them, but aside from that, no complaints here! They look awesome with my new BF Goodrich all-terrains 🙂

I don’t think I could have done the head gaskets on my 4runner without this book. I have the factory manual on my computer. The factory instructions are there but the Haynes style is more suited to my work habits.

It’s also good to have the book and pictures right there at the car without printing pages and having them blow all over and have to chase them around the yard. I guess I could take my $2500 mac book pro out there and balance it on a fender while pushing the keys with greasy hands, but I think NOT! The $20 Haynes manual still works after dropping it and spraying it with brake cleaner.

An okay manual with some important information like torque values and capacities but it’s lacking the stuff a true weekend mechanic needs. There’s precious little about the automatic transmissions or the TPMS system.

All told, it’s better than nothing and needed for home maintenance but Haynes manuals seem to be providing less and less as cars are getting more and more complex.

Instead of hunting through YouTube for step by step instructions I finally bought the manual with all of the torque values.

I installed this kit on my buddies 15 gmc z71, flawless install in 3 drinking hours (and first time ever putting a leveling kit on), looks great, rides great! So I got the same kit and installed on mine.

Mine is not a z71, only difference. Install went ok, took a little longer. I have stamped upper control arms he had forged, so i will pop for the uppers with corrected ball joint angle and get an alignment.

Otherwise really happy!!.

The spacer kit looks great. However, there is NOTHING remotely close to addressing anything about the Xreas system in your directions. There are even pictures that show you taking the strut completely out, which is impossible with the Xreas system.

I actually ended up ruining my Xreas (probably for the better) trying to install using the directions provided. The vague directions would be fine if it were a normal suspension but this is explicitly advertised as a system “only for Xreas” and there isn’t one piece of information pertaining to the Xreas system.

Because of the lack of any clear direction from the provider I ended up going to another 4 wheeling site and ordering a while new suspension. Not worth the pain or the extra money.

Since install, (500 miles) everything seems to be working great, handles great, didn’t jeopardize ride quality at all. Please note, install directions are vague and miss plenty of required planning for install and install directions.

Photos and directions for one show system being removed for install. You cannot unhook the x-reas system without adding much work. Install has to occur without you removing the shock completely, no directions indicate that you have to get spring compressors to rotate the hat of the coil system.

I called and spoke with someone at rough country and the only help they had was sending a video on how to completely remove the x-reas from your 4-runner???!!!???!!. Caution, it will take double the time they quote.

Had this lift on for a few days now, rides and looks awesome. Will likely go for a full suspension build in a year or so, but I wanted to go ahead and get the truck up in the air for new wheels/tires.

The ride with this kit is actually better/smoother than stock, even though it’s still using the stock XREAS. Doesn’t feel floaty or vague or anything. Really love the coil springs in the rear instead of spacers, feels more planted and competent.

No, I’m not gonna be doing any serious offroading (will wait until the full susp swap), but this kit did everything I needed for now and actually exceeded my ride quality expectations.
