20 Best Yarn For Summer Clothes (2023 Updated)

This yarn is so insanely soft! I was so happy to finally find a good bamboo cotton yarn to use for toys. I do wish they offered fingering or lace weight (not a fan of dk or worsted), but it’d probably lose its sheer softness in doing so.

I literally sleep cuddled up to this yarn. And my toddler fights me trying to get ahold of the skeins to chew on them. They split pretty easily but that’s to be expected from such a soft yarn. They do not tangle horribly, which is why I’m always looking for good bamboo/cotton yarn (versus merino wool, which is soft but tangles/felts horribly).

This yarn would be perfect for making toys/amigurumi! I purchased it with the intentions of making little plushies for my daughter but love it too much to justify making anything mediocre. I also love the colors but would love a broader range as well.

I bought this yarn because I loved how soft it was. I’d never used it so I crocheted a small sample swatch. I started out with a Boye hook and had fits because the yarn split like mad. So I went and bought a bates hook in the right size and after frogging the original swatch I redid it with the Bates hook and had a whole lot less trouble with the yarn splitting.

I really like how soft this yarn is and in the future I’ll stick to working this yarn with Bates hooks. Hook type issue aside I really liked how this yarn works up. I’ve only worked a small amount of the skein I have but, it center pulls nicely and I’ve found no frays or knots so far.

In terms of crochet experience I’d consider myself to be an advanced beginner. I have three different brands of crochet hooks, Bates, Boye and one of Hobby Lobby’s brands, called Yarnology I believe.

The heads on the Yarnology hooks are a cross between the Bates and the Boye. It is not strange for me to swap hook brands if the yarn I’m currently working doesn’t like the hook being used. It doesn’t solve everything but it can help drastically.

I was missing all the crocheting I used to do when I was young. Btw my grandma taught me that. Now I wanted to get back into crocheting and make a blanket in memory of her. This was the perfect yarn for the job.

The purple (her favorite color) was absolutely stunning. I enjoyed making my blanket and it turned out great.

I’m actually using this to make a cardigan right now. I love how it feels and how well it knits/crochets up. It is a bamboo and cotton blend yarn so it is amazing. The color in the picture above is slightly off.

And frankly the color on their website is also off. The picture shows a slightly purple hue and it is actually more of a light blue color. I attached a picture of the skein that I received to give you a more accurate look of the color.

They also came out with new colors so I’m excited to maybe buy more in the future.

as per my review i think the product is wonderful to work with as a crochet project. this product makes great projects as it does not to seem to be joined together ( in a ball as all one strand not having knots and put together ) where other products i have used and returned to the store for that defect.

I have made over 30 blankets with the Bernat Hadicrafter, It is great.

Not as soft as the original Handicrafter cotton, and tends to split a little if you’re not pretty careful. But for what I was making (dish scrubbies with this a Red Heart scrubby yarn) it worked very well.

Added some scrubbing texture to the all cotton side.

This is such a sturdy feeling yarn that I really love using for bags and slippers! The small skein has so much more yarn than you would expect- always impressed by how many yards are in here! Not to mention that the colours are lovely!.

I’ve been buying Sugar’n Cream yarn for decades but I recently bought several balls at my local JoAnn’s that were very scratchy. I noticed the label still says “made in Canada” but the USA cotton symbol was gone.

I wonder if they are now making this yarn with a different kind of cotton, or perhaps they’ve changed their manufacturing process? Well, either way, I’m very disappointed in these recently purchased balls.

With sales, this is a good price and good option (typically found/in-stock in stores) for a 100% cotton yarn. This is definitely on the rougher side as far as 100% cotton yarns go, and when washed turns fairly stiff – would not suggest for wearables.

Seems like it will be quite durable, and great color options.

I decided to try knitting again at 56 – I had failed miserably when I was younger – a combination, I think, of having tried to be taught as a left hander by right-handed people, and being given cheap, icky feeling yarn to practice on.

Well, YouTube and Sugar ‘n Cream to the rescue! I was able to find a technique that worked and this lovely yarn that felt wonderful in my hand, yet wasn’t too precious for me to be afraid to make mistakes.

On my first two projects, I was able to create dishcloths as samples that had crisp stitch definition and so I could see as I was going what I could do to improve as I went along, and the yarn felt great as I was working it.

As a cotton yarn, there was some separation of the threads, but that also helped me be more conscious of the knitting process.

I thought this yarn was so cute and I grabbed a free Michael’s pattern for the Crochet Market Bag when I bought the yarn. I was very pleased with the jute yarn. It is very sturdy. The natural jute yarn in “Ombre” has just small bits of color mingled into the mostly natural color and is perfect for the cute market bag.

The bag turned out nice and the yarn will be plenty strong enough to support any items I decide to carry in it!.

I ordered the paradise colorway and was expecting short variegation of bright neons in pink, orange, yellow, royal blue, light blue, etc. Paradise actually is longer variegation (self-striping? I won’t really know until I begin working with it) of neon orange and pink plus navy blue and silver gray.

A combination I would have thought incongruous and walked right past, had I seen it in-store. I’m a big fan of Lion Brand yarn; I’m sure the quality of this is on par with the rest of Lion Brand’s offerings.

But this colorway is a big disappointment!.

The color in real time is a bit more warm tone but I still like it. Compared to the ombre’s and stripes, the solids are softer and less sticky. Yes it splits easy but when washed it does tighten up which is nice when using it for kitchen appliances and small grocery bags.

Small test swatch useage, the cotton yarn is very durable and surprisingly protected my desk from burning when lighting a candle in both a tin and glass containers. Having my cats play with it, yeah it got a little messed up but when stretched it a little, it went back to normal so will be buying more to use as cat toys.

I’ve purchased several colors / skeins of Sugar ‘n Cream yarn before and have always been very happy. But this skein of yarn gave me problems. I came across a knot within the first 1/4 of the skein, which was actually holding two different ends together.

I cut the knot out and wove in the two ends. But the worst was the twisted 4 ply kept separating, unwinding. It made it difficult to knit, and showed in the knitted piece when finished. I was only knitting dish cloths so I struggled through it.

I want to knit more in this color, but a bit worried that the next skein will be the same. Hopefully, it was just one bad Skein. I’m not giving up, I’ll buy more.

I bought this yarn to make a crop top and a bralette and I absolutely love it. It’s soft enough to wear next to the skin, but sturdy and hardwearing enough to actually be worn. It doesn’t split whilst you’re working with it and doesn’t snap.

I love that it’s wraped in a cake which makes pulling from the middle really easy, and I love how vibrant the colours are. The fact it’s machine washable is a big plus, and it’s affordable enough to buy multiple skeins at a time!.

Nice light weight cotton blend yarn. Not the softest when working dense stitches. Kind of hard on your hands. Should work up very well and drapey for a garment. Good value for the yardage.

Fabulous vibrant colours. Lovely and silky to work with. I used it for a crochet project and the yarn glides perfectly. Finished project was soft and comfortable. A good variety of other colours available.

The only downside was when I needed to frog (undo) some mistakes I made it tended to catch a little so it is not ideal to use as practise yarn when writing patterns. This is purely due to the nature of the yarn though and not the quality which is excellent.

Nice wool yarn with 69% wool so it is soft but “not baby soft” so it makes a great border for a larger adult blanket and this is the purpose I am intending use for this yarn. Would make a exquisite car coat or jacket being it is very light; not a heavy yarn at all.

You most likely would only feel the warmth of the wool of the jacket because this is such a light yarn in weight and I was using a 6mm needles. In other words this yarn is wool yet is has a light almost weightless feel to it when knitted (some wool coats are so heavy when wearing them; this is light) making it awesome as a blanket or jacket that serves the purpose well of warmth on you and not heaviness of many wool yarns.

All the ICE yarns I bought so far are wonderful. They knit out beautiful, are easy to work with, and the colored ones are fantastic. This one I am using as a fortifying thread with an angora. The whole knits up easier and the angora gives extra warmth and thickness.

ICE yarns are superb. No one beats their price, even with the higher shipping cost. Love them !.

I haven’t used it yet but bought it on the recommendation of my daughter in South Africa who made the most beautiful shawl with it and loved the yarn. Will send a photo when it’s done. Thank you for your very efficient delivery and friendly service.

Moderately priced yarn that good quality. No knots or joins within the skein and the yarn doesn’t fray. It’s pretty forgiving and works great for Amigurumi, though the line itself doesn’t have very many colors to choose from.

You can easily split the yarn if you want to embellish with embroidery on your price.

I usually don’t do reviews but this had to be shared. It’s the most versatile yarn out there. Great for hand knitting but I also use it with my 2 knitting machines. It’s very soft and washes up beautifully.

I highly recommend this yarn to the very beginner or advanced knitter. I am very pleased with it.

This yarn couldn’t be softer and lightweight feeing. I love that it’s derived from natural fiber. The texture it creates after being crocheted is very satisfying to me, and the colors are so beautiful.

Love this yarn. Knits up beautifully. Used it to make a shopper and a book sleeve. The pattern for shopper was for DK but adjusted for 4 ply and made a lovely smaller size bag to keep ready for unexpected purchases.

This is a pretty colour and a lovely, soft cotton. I am using it to make a summer cardigan for my baby granddaughter in the USA. The photo is of the patterned back, while the sleeves are stocking stitch – good for young babies, so they don’t get tiny fingers trapped in the holes.

The yarn is good to work with as cotton yarns go. This is my third project using cotton yarn and I continue to be disappointed with the end result. Every one has turned out too large even though I use smaller needles and make a smaller size.

Yes, I monitor my gauge. As usual, I have one full skein and a partial left over. The top is shown hanging only for purpose of the photo so it has nothing to do with sizing.

Absolutely love this yarn for making clothes. It is fairly smooth on the hook/needles, not splity, and works up a beautiful, drape-y piece of clothing. Has a nice bit of stretch also, so if making clothing, work up a few rows with your measurements first and check fit.

I found that the material has enough give that you might be able to eliminate a few stitches. Bought to make myself a summer sleeveless top, but ended up making son’s girlfriend piece first. Made a lacy halter top with just one skien.

Working on tops for my niece’s right now. Only complaint would be that Michael’s only carries the coral and blue colors and maybe white/cream. Wish I could pick up more colors at Michael’s. Prefer not to order direct from maker due to shipping costs.

Cotton Fair is just the right cotton yarn to use when weaving. Sometimes companies that selling cotton yarn for weaving sells too much for the project, the yarn is too expensive or I can’t accurately the thickness of yarn by their standards.

Because of the availability of this yarn in the store, I can calculate how or how little I need, what other yarns can be used in my projects and most of all. the price is just right.

I am using this to make the “little sister” hat for my little sister. Yarn flows through my hook and feels good in my hands. It’s not too rough on my fingers. Wish the Michaels in Homestead, PA had more colors available as I was on vacation there when I bought it and love this pattern.

So I started making amigurumi in May 2021, and I immediately resorted to Lily Sugar ‘n Cream since it had a decent selection of colors in cotton and because they were sold in Michaels stores. Here are my thoughts on this yarn based on Fuzziness and Color.

Fuzziness: Over the months, I noticed that some of my amigurumi became fuzzy. It may be because I put my amigurumi in fabric bags when I work on them outside of my house, so now I put my amigurumi in plastic bags (like polyfil plastic bags) to avoid fuzziness.

The yarn is quite sensitive to fuzziness, which I thought would be minimized since it’s a cotton based yarn. I attached a photo with the fuzziness from the Hot Pink color I got from Michaels. I used this color to make Mizuchi, a very adorable minor character from Bob’s Burgers! Color: I have gotten this brand in many of the colors, but the only one I am disappointed with is the Hot Blue.

I bought 4 of them in the beginning of May 2021 from the Hartsdale NY store, and then I bought 2 more of them two weeks after. I started the Hot Blue project in September 2021, and now I’m noticing the colors are not the same! One shade is more pail than the other.

I am slightly disappointed because I am noticing it now. In some angles/lighting, the color difference is not that noticeable. But then at times the color difference is quite noticeable. I got the yarn at the same store two weeks apart, and now I am finding it hard to trust this Hot Blue color.

I guess my advice is to buy a bunch of it at a time to get a consistent color. But I wish I didn’t have to worry about that. For this Hot Blue project, I am making Bakeneko, another very adorable and large minor character in Bob’s Burgers! I attached photos of both the Hot Pink and the Hot Blue.

I still overall recommend this brand since it is easy to work with, it’s available in Michaels stores, and I love the color selection and the fact that it’s cotton. I will continue to buy it, but I’m gonna be more cautious when choosing the colors and making sure they are the same shade (ugh).

It’s always best to buy it in stores. Just protect your projects from becoming fuzzy, and make sure the colors are consistent!.

I woke up out of a dead sleep at 3 am to buy this yarn, with the only idea in my head of “Must. Make. Cookies. N’. Cream. Cow. ” Luckily, Joanns had it, purchased it, and eagerly waited. The yarn arrived a few days earlier than expected which is great, but the only thing wrong is that its stained.

:/. However, its still useable, just unfortunate its stained considering its mainly white. I don’t think the yellow spots were intended, considering I bought the color “Salt N’ Pepper”. Although, package didn’t come ruined, the WHOLE product isn’t ruined, still salvageable, just a tad upset its got mystery yellow spots :(.

I bought this yarn to knit a sleeveless brioche top. Perhaps a strange choice for brioche, since it creates a fabric that is flatter and less squishy than is typical, but it’s still extremely soft and nice.

I think this would be a good choice for any kind of summer knit or kids’ clothes!.

Very easy yarn to work with. Love the stretch, you do have to be careful at times because it can unravel. I am making a fitted dress an so far this has yarn has nit dissaponted.

I just bought this yarn, having knitted with it a long time ago and loved it. I have not started my new project yet, but I remember that this yarn did not split during knitting and the fabric was quite sturdy, i.

e. did not lose its shape which must be due to the small amount of artificial fibre contained in this yarn. I am very much looking forward to knitting with it and would definitely recommend it.

This yarn is a good value for the price. I bought a skein of blue and a skein of white. The white felt softer. It was nice to work with. I made a dish towel with it. I have been trying out a lot of cotton yarns to find the ideal cotton for dish towels and hand towels, and agree that this is softer than other cotton yarns sold by Walmart.

I don’t think it felt as soft after washing and drying (even my trial projects are going to be used) as I expected, but definitely remained softer than the thick, sturdy stuff, and it may soften more with additional washes.

It shrank, but not as much as some other cotton yarns. I will probably go with another brand for my purpose, but that is mostly because of the lack of color choices. It is really a good feeling yarn for the price.

I am a beginner in knitting, so I decided to buy something cheap for my first top. I used 3 pink skeins and each one of them was a different shades. Not recommending for a project where you need more than 1 skein.

Also , I’ve noticed that it sheds a lot. Something to consider….

This is really nice yarn but I thought something was off so I measured the yardage on two different skeins, one white color and one black color. Each skein is short by at least 20 yards! this really makes a big difference when making something large, like a blanket! I have had to purchase a lot more yarn than I planned on because of this discrepancy! Not happy at all!!! If you are just making washcloths/dishcloths it’s probably not a big thing but when making a 100% cotton blanket? Ya, it makes a BIG difference!! I will be using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton yarn next time.

Dabei ist das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis zu anderen Baumwollgarnen wirklich gut.

The colour changes are the main feature of this yarn, beautiful jewel tones change to create a unique look, reminding me of those oil slick rainbows when its worked up! There’s a base colour with at least one other thinner strand of colour going around it, these change in separate gradients so it’s a delight to see your work goes through stages of being blue/purple/green/mustard etc with other colours throughout! The yarn is soft and easy to work with for crochet, I made a top with mine with a 4.

00mm crochet hook and its warm too. I did notice some inconsistencies with the thickness of the yarn, occasionally very thin but mostly thick fluffier parts about 7 times throughout the ball. The colour variations distract from this for the most part though.

Can’t speak for knitting but when crocheting this yarn, I found the fluffier parts can get interlocked as you go. Now this is good for the security of the piece but if you have to undo some stitches you may find they don’t want to separate without tearing some fibres or cutting it.

When making the wrong number of chain stitches I had to dispose of some of the yarn as when I pulled it to unravel it was stuck fast. Only a little though. And I had no problem undoing larger & looser stitches.

Good amount provided and well-wound. I had no issues with tangling, I worked directly from the ball as it was bought. Generally fab yarn, I have bought a second ball, would absolutely recommend it if you are attracted to it!.

I love the yarn, it’s great when crocheting and the colours are lovely. I keep looking for the next colour and love them all. My only small issue is when I was sewing the sock together the yarn became very thin, each time I pulled it through to sew the pieces together, to the point that it broke.

It wasn’t a huge issue, I just needed to re-thread some more, but my other yarn doesn’t do this. So just make sure you have enough for sewing up garments as it becomes thin and break as you sew.

This wool is very soft and knits consistently well. It changes colour at good intervals so you get variety in when knitting something. I used it for a scarf which requires lots of wool. This ball was really handy because it did not have a knot once and was a relaxing easy ball of wool to knit with.

As a teenage knitter I was very impressed and actually felt proud of my result which doesn’t happen a lot!.
