20 Best Yarn For Knitting Blankets (2023 Updated)

It is so thin in places and feels like it will break and tear easily. This is not like normal yarn but like a tube that is a bit hairy. After a few washes it will probably really thin out into your lint bin and you will be left with the string bit.

The colors were pretty but not enough to make up for the poor quality. The packaging has a baby on it that seems almost eerie pale, an unhealthy tone. While you are working with the yarn it just stares at you in a creeper way so perhaps another photo on the label would be better with something like a project that has been made from the yarn instead? I purchased this on clearance thinking it would be a great product to try and sadly its not.

If you come across this while in your search for good yarn just save yourself the money and keep on trucking. P. S. on the label the baby is wearing a crochet jacket, but once you look closely you can see its not even made out of this particular yarn and they don’t even offer a pattern for this jacket.

It is very misleading as to what you can do with this yarn.

Very nice yarn to work with. I did notice it looks a little bit “worn already” after working a shawl pattern 1/4-of-the-way through it. Then I read other reviews and that seems to be a trending sentiment about this yarn.

Love the teal color. Reasonable pricing. I would buy it again.

I really like the yarn. However the site claimed it would make a pair of socks and I haven’t even finished the first sock and when weighing the remaining yarn I only have 25 grams left. I am very upset about this as I always have enough yarn with other sock yarns.

I love this yarn. The yarn doesn’t split for me, the colors are great, very even and have lots of depth of color. The colors are pretty and go together well. Thank you for having this brand in your collection.

Beautiful yarn; however, knitting a pair of socks, I could not find a repeat color pattern to match when beginning the second sock. I know there is a yarn company that marks the starting pattern/color for sock yarns.

I am still trying to locate them.

I have purchased hundreds, and hundreds of dollars worth of this yarn, and have made 17 huge afgans with it since Feb. 2013. It is much better feeling than redheart which was my staple yarn, until it became so jagged and rough (years ago) my hands could not stand it.

That was when I found the Bernat SVY. Bernat has a bit more thickness than most 4 ply worsteds, and for this reason am able to use an I hook instead of an H for the required project. The reason for my 3 stars is that there should be more consistency between colors.

I got 4 feet into a project, having selected my colors, and the PEACH is truly 20-30% thinner, and softer than the other colors. Had the same problem with 2 of the new colors, HOT BLUE, is THICKER AND ROUGHER, and then I add COOL BLUE next to it, and it and Cool Blue is 20-30% THINNER AND SOFTER.

Fortunate for me I was doing a 4 cluster double crochet project and had the knowledge to just add one more double crochet to my pattern (each cluster). This of course required 25% more yarn, but no way was I changing the color pattern I had originally planned for this project.

HOW ABOUT SOME CONSISTENCY BETWEEN COLORS? By the way, WASH YOUR PROJECT IN DREFT BEFORE GIFTING IT. Washing removes the sizing and makes the blanket/scarf over all softer and drapey. I do enjoy my crochet projects with this yarn, I just wish I could count on consistency.

Also, not too many “knots” where the yarn ends and another is tied into the other to complete the skein. HOWEVER, THERE ARE SLUBS OF OTHER COLORED YARN THAT ARE FOUND WRAPPED AROUND ONE OF THE PLYS AND IF YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL, AND HAVE A VERY FINE SCISSOR YOU ARE ABLE TO REMOVE WITHOUT HAVING TO CUT OUT THAT PIECE.

This has got to be one of my favorite yarns. The appearance is the best part. Very matte and not shiny. In all the heather colors, it really looks like wool. It is a perfect worsted size. Not too thick or thin.

A perfect medium worsted yarn. Made in Canada. It washes very well. It is unbelievably light weight. There is a lot of yarn in each skein. About 426 yards. It comes in a lot of colors. I call it a secret wonder because no one talks about it or knows about it but it really is wonderful.

Yarn: It is a nice, soft yarn, but it is not worsted weight in yarn. It is very thin, more like a 2. So, if you are looking for a soft cotton lightweight yarn, this is great. Color: I ordered “Pea Green” and received exactly what I wanted: a soft sage colored yarn.

Uses: I wanted to crochet a shawl from this cotton yarn because wool makes me itch. I was not able to because it is too thin for me to work with. I learned to crochet with embroidery thread almost 40 years ago, but I can no longer work with yarn that thin.

That was my only trouble with this yarn. This ould make an amazing lace weight shawl. Pictures: Showing Yonkey Monkey yarn next to Caron Simply Soft worsted weight. The YM yarn is much thinner.

Im a yarn enthusiast. This was sold as worsted weight, but its more a light DK. Im positive I will make something beautiful with it with no problems. Ill buy more.

I purchased this yarn to arm-knit a blanket for a family member for Christmas. The project went off without a hitch and the blanket turned out great. The color was exactly what I was expecting and the yarn is nice and soft.

The only “challenge” I faced was joining one skein to another–because the yarn is so bulky, I felt like the joins aren’t as inconspicuous as I typically like them to be. I read a suggestion online from someone else to sew the ends of each skein together for more “seamless” joins, but this would take more time and effort.

Overall, I am still satisfied with the product as is the recipient of the blanket!.

I have purchased Bernat Blanket Big Ball Yarn for three afghans. The first one I purchased was from a large online retailer. Having never worked with this yarn before I wondered why some parts were twisted and flat and others were full and round.

I continued crocheting & quickly realized this Afghan could not be a Christmas present. It was so fragile I was afraid it disintegrate in the washer. It’s ended up as an extra afghan for my husband. I thought perhaps the big online retailer does not receive quality yarn so I ordered Vintage White and Dark Teal from Joann’s for the two remaining Christmas afghans.

I washed the vintage white and blocked it. Although it looked beautiful before washing, it was a curly mess when it dried, so I sprayed it with water and rebooked it. This morning there was no change in the result and I ended throwing it in the garbage.

I now have the third afghan, a Dark Teal one, now blocking. So far, it looks good. This will be my last afghan using this brand. I have crocheted over 30 years and never encountered this issue. Now it’s four days before we celebrate an early Christmas and I don”t know what to do.

I am devastated.

Overall, I love this yarn, but I ordered a lot online because of the sale they just had. Majority of the colors are a lot darker when you get them than they show up in the photo online. So, I highly recommend buying these in store so you can see what colors you will be getting.

Some also didn’t show all the colors in the variations in the skein. So, I got it thinking it was all light yarn, and here is this super dark blue out of nowhere. So, I ended up taking some back to the store to exchange for better colors lol.

Also, some colors seemed to be having some issues in the factory right now with being cut and tied in multiple areas. I sent an email to customer service about this, and they were great about it. Overall, the yarn is very soft and nice to work with.

It is just a yarn that I would not recommend buying online.

I did a lot of research into this yarn before buying. Here is what I’ve found that is true for the yarn, after working with it for a bit: – This yarn is better tighter stitched than other yarns at its weight – otherwise, you have a very good chance of experiencing worming in your work.

Size down your needles and hooks when using this yarn (and when I mean size down, I mean possibly 2-3 hook/needle sizes down). – Because of the material of this yarn, it is slippery to work with! Metal alloy tools might be a little harder to use with this yarn.

– This yarn doesn’t wash in the machine well. Hand wash the finished products from this yarn. – Just as some skeins of other yarns might end up with skinnier bits, this might end up with portions that have no velvet fuzz on them, and there are several knots/joins in the skeins that I suggest cutting out and knotting into your work in a more aesthetic/secure area.

– I don’t suggest trying to sew in your ends (unless your stitches are very tight, or you have some magic method that you’re sure will hold). This yarn is incredibly showy and beautiful. I would not recommend doing any sort of intricate stitchwork with this, as the sheen and fluffiness of this yarn will overshadow it – so it is a bit limited in use.

The feel of this yarn is wonderful, however, and the tones available are lovely. If you can learn how to work with it, it can be one of the most beautiful yarns you’ll use. Anyone looking specifically for a velvet yarn is going to find something good with Bernat Velvet.

This is my first time making a blanket & first time using the BERNAT Blanket. I used 7 skeins to finish a Full-Queen size blanket. The yarn is soft & the color of all my 7 skeins is consistent & pretty.

However, I was VERY disappointed about the quality of the yarn. 1) Those 7 balls I used were not one big ball of continuous yarn; there were knots tied together to create a full ball. I counted & noted that I had total 13 knots on those 7 balls.

(I just don’t believe that there were 4 knots on my 2nd ball. ) I was very frustrated with those knots & almost giving up making the blanket. 2) The thickness of the yarn is inconsistent. Not all are round & chunky, some are flat and thin.

That will be perfect if the above two issues can be resolved.

I loved just about everything with this yarn. The colors were wonderful and it is a very easy yarn to work with. It does not have any stretch to it, so if you need stretch in your work, this would not be the right yarn to use.

I also found that because it has more defined structure than typical yarn, it also does not make the best yarn for certain stitch patterns. The Chinese Wave pattern in this yarn did not give me the clearly defined rows and stitch gaps that I was looking for.

It was beautiful even still, but just not what I wanted. So if you’re aiming for something very specific in a pattern you have already seen in another kind of yarn, best try some test runs on this yarn before investing in the full skein supply.

It is beautiful and has a lot to offer for the right pattern. This is a zero pilling and zero fuzz type of yarn too, so if that is important, you’ll have no problems here with either of those!.

Excellent yarn, easy to work with, glides through hands; but not too much slip. Has a cool touch. Love that it’s recycled cotton with enough nylon for added strength. So far have made a couple of bags and some med.

weight spring/fall brimmed hat. Flexible yet holds it’s shape well. (Can get even more structure by going down a hook size or two. ) I think this yarn would also be great for area rugs, baskets and open-weave market bags.

Well worth the price and even better when on sale or with a coupon! I hope JoAnn will keep it in stock (my store clearanced it out, as a summer item only) and Bernat continues to make this yarn, with more colors.

please!!! I have all except for black, only b/c it’s too much of a dog hair magnet for my household! But would make a great trim or a nice bag, with the Clay as an accent or vice versa. Even some of the “funky” looking color combos work up to be very attractive and eye-catching! Have rec’d lots of oooh’s & aaah’s!.

I have not had one issue with this yarn! Except to find what to make with it! I have made blankets, scarves and a pillow case with this and I need more projects! It doesn’t fall apart or fray unless the outside cover of the tubing is damaged.

It’s easy to cut the damage away and tie right back to itself though. Knots hold well that I have made. I didn’t come across many manufacture knots, which is something a lot of fellow crocheters worry about.

They do happen in all yarn, but I have not found many at all. I love the feeling of this yarn after it has gone through the wash and dry! It’s so soft and very warm!.

I bought this yarn to make a blanket for my 6 year old granddaughter. She wanted lavender and sage colors but it was a difficult combo to find. The rose combination of lavender to purple to magenta to grey with this yarn blends beautifully.

I’m halfway through and the colors and the feel and texture is wonderful. The yarn is tightly woven and there is minimal fuzzies. It’s been a pleasure. For my next project I would love to see a lavender and sage blend.

I LOVE 100% COTTON yarn!! AND this fits the bill for me!!! For the deal when it’s on sale or I have a coupon, I CAN’T ask for better stuff!!!! Tho when you have a cone it comes off NICER then when you have a skein! The issue is w/a skein is that it sometimes tangles up.

OVERALL I love the way this washes and works up well for potholders, washcloths, etc. etc. etc. I’ve had dishcloths that I’ve used for OVER EIGHT years that are ONLY starting to have holes in NOW! It’s held up that GOOD!!!! AND I use them about every day, and NOT just once/wk.

!!!! This stuff holds up like iron!!!! The only color I’ve gotten so far that I’m not crazy about is a lavender or tone of purple. It was NOT a TRUE purple and more like a grayish purple. so WATCH the colors! They are NOT always true to their color online!!!! The little icon w/the color is NOT ALWAYS TRUE to be!!! That I was rather disappointed with!!! But it does HOLD UP NICELY!!! AND w/the bigger skeins you Don’t need as many knots in your item in which you are making! So that part I LOVE!!!!.

This is the only yarn I used for all the baby blankets I made. The feel is very soft making it nice to crochet with. Using this yarn gives me just the right size that I like the blanket to be and I can finish it faster than using other types of yarns.

I use white the most and only had trouble once in many years with the color being off, I didn’t return it. I use that skein to make pot holders. By the way did I say this yarn is great for pot holders and I get many request for both the baby blankets and the potholders.

When it comes to Bernat Handcrafter cotton it is very low maintenance which makes the new moms very happy. I like the big skein and use it before I use any other because less breaks in the yarn which means less work.

If you try it I hope you agree this yarn is a great choice for many different projects.

feels more like string. Says cotton . Would not use for anything you want to feel soft. Not sure what I would use this for. Bought for a blqanket but not happening.

I agree with all the other reviewers. It’s the best yarn. The stitch definition, the quality is amazing. I made a large swatch, machine washed it and dried it many times; just to see how it turns out.

It’s great. It would be really nice to have it permanently available.

Such a delightful yarn to work with. No splitting; super soft. There are apparently a lot of solid colorways in store as well; they aren’t visible online/in-app. I really hope this yarn stays and isn’t just limited time only!.

This is by far the nicest yarn sold at Michaels. Most of the cheap-y acrylic yarns aren’t soft or warm to knit with like this. I’m disappointed that it’s “limited time only”, because this seems like a new favorite for me.

TranslateShow in original languageHeute kam meine Easy Care Wolle. Sie ist super weich und ich bin ganz happy. Die Farben sind wunderschön, ich hab mi 067 Yellow und 081 Lemon bestellt. Daraus mache ich einen gehäkelten und einen gestrickten Pulli.

Ich weis noch nicht ob ich die Farben mische oder einfarbig verarbeite. Ich hab mir auch noch von Unicorn Happy 03 dazu gekauft, das kann ich sehr schön mit beiden Farben mischen. Die Garne sind so super schön und ich hab mir gleich noch andere Farben bestellt.

TranslateShow in original languageEine Jacke in Waffelmuster gestrickt in den Farben 154 und 152 von Easy care Big. Die Qualität ist 1a. Selbst bei Wind hält sie schön warm. Der Nachteil für mich? Ich bin auf der Haut eher empfindlich und es krabbelt etwas am Hals wenn ich die Jacke anhabe.

Ansonsten habe ich bsolut nicht anzumerken. Preis-Leistung einwandfrei, Lieferung fix und Verpackung angemessen. Vielen lieben dank.

TranslateShow in original languageIm Internet “verfolgte” mich die Werbung eines anderen Wollversands mit einem Blockstreifen Schal. Mir zu teuer. da dachte ich mir, dass kann Hobbii auch. Also die Easy Care bestellt in rosa und grau und sehr überrascht worden.

Die Farben wie abgebildet, die Wolle sehr weich und leicht zu stricken. und die Hälfte gespart. Also gibt es noch einen Schal in Blautönen 😀. Gerne wieder Easy Care und auf jeden Fall eine Kaufempfehlung 👍.
