20 Best Yarn For Finger Knitting (2023 Updated)

I have made two throws and I’m working on a third now. This is my favorite loop yarn to work with. I have tried a few brands but this is the best. You may encounter some balls with missing loops/damage but I just cut those sections out and continue on.

It’s not so bad if you are making a large throw. I do not knit so this yarn is great for me. Each throw took me about 15 hours to make. I used the Ice Cream and the Aqua Scuse Me and am starting a third using the Mixed Taupe.

For all, I have used a cable stitch, 66 stitches, 12 balls. The finished size is approximately 40″ x 68″, they vary according to how you connect the next ball (tie a knot or double up the last and first three loops and if you need to piece together when there are bad spots in the ball).

All in all, I love it! I don’t have a lot of time to craft but I love crafting and for me, this is instant gratification. For ME to be able to make THIS and give it as a gift is awesome! I hope Red Heart keeps making this and adds colors.

I was very disappointed with this yarn. I used the Play It Cool multi-color yarn to start a blanket and all of the skeins had flaws. Some loops were stuck together while other loops were not even loops, some loops were shorter than others and more.

The overall quality was very poor. I took photos and emailed them to Customer Care as proof of my dissatisfaction. Red Heart has been around for decades so it was very disappointing. I am returning them.

What a waste of time and effort to have started a blanket and not being able to finish it. I am going back to using the Loopity Loop yarn sold at Joann’s.

I like the concept, but as careful as I thought I was being when making my project, I kept skipping loops and had to take apart my project multiple times. The yarn itself is not very consistent. Most of the loops in each skein are puffy and nice, but there are just too many parts where the loops are thin and straggly.

I haven’t finished my project yet, so I don’t know if the thin parts will show up in the finished project. so far it looks ok. I would buy this yarn again, if the price goes down. It takes 6 skeins just to make a tiny baby blanket.

I got it on sale for $4. 00 per skein—which I think is a good price, but it can get very expensive if you want to make a child size blanket.

Though these skeins were MUCH smaller than I had anticipated, each can make one granny square, and there were a wonderful assortment of colors. So, not quite as great a deal as I had thought, but still definitely not bad.

It will make a very colorful child-sized afghan. If you want a full sized afghan or blanket, you should get 2 or 3. Occasionally came across a skein that wasn’t quite long enough and had to go back and tighten my stitches to complete the square, but most skeins had a little left over.

This is exactly what I wanted to make a multicolored granny square throw. I haven’t started my project yet, but hoping to get a lot of squares out of it. Worth buying more than one lot to get what I want! Great color assortment! EDIT: I fiinished it! Came out just like I wanted it to.

This yarn is great to make a blanket with because it’s so soft! I love how much yarn it is and the thickness of it. The blanket I’m still currently making from this kind of yarn is for a queen size blanket, so I have had to buy several and am still working on it.

I’m glad I was able to buy several of these from Walmart when they were on sale. Too bad Walmart didn’t continue ordering more of these for in store because I decided to purchase more from online somewhere else once thay ran out.

This blanket is by far my favorite blanket since it’s so soft and warm. Even though it’s warm, I still like that you can feel some air through it to where you don’t feel overheated. Since the blanket I made is for a queen size bed, the blanket is somewhat heavy kind if like the weighted blankets.

The “LION BRAND I WANNA MAKE A BLANKIE YARNS” are absolutely PERFECT ! They’re perfectly packaged; full instructions are provided; and the YARN itself is super wonderful to work with ! When completed, the “BLANKIES” are approx.

48″ x 48″. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THE ” I WANNA MAKE A BLANKIE” YARNS !.

The yarn itself is great. Making a warm jacket with it. Unfortunately they are not pull-out skeins. Bought 4 skeins because they are reasonably priced for the quality. You have to unwind the yarn from around the outside as there is no other way to pull the yarn while you are crocheting.

Even to wind into balls is maddening. The name should be changed from Serenity to Frustration.

The yarn started out very nice and chunky. Shortly into my project, the thickness thinned out drastically to less than half of what it started. I removed more than ten yards of extremely thin yarn before finding some thick enough to resume my project.

I hope the rest is much better quality than this one.

What I like about this yarn is the softness. However, I do not like the consistent pattern throughout the yarn. It ends up leaving dark and light patches in your final piece. Some of the other brands have more random patterns which allow for a better-looking final product.

Also, the dye lots can be very inconsistent. If you are going to order online, you may end up having to go to the store to swap out, which in the end saves you no time in shopping. The price is also very high.

Wait for it to go on sale and use a coupon in order for it to be a reasonable price.

I have made 3 blankets so far using lion brand off the hook yarn and now working on my 4th. Overall this yarn is very beginner and user friendly. I have no experience prior to crochet or knitting and I caught on to this quickly with the help of YouTube.

I used 9-10 skeins to make 2 of my blankets. The other was a baby blanket. The quality of the yarn is decent I’ve used dark and stormy, blue sapphire, and the crayola colors. The quality control was the worst I saw with the blue sapphire yarn.

I had an issue with one skin missing almost a whole rows worth of loops which was frustrating to have to stop and start again but other than that I had no issues. It isn’t as soft as comparable brands but definitely makes a soft, thick, and warm blanket.

For the price I definitely recommend especially if you’re a beginner like me with yarn crafts.

I purchased a few skeins to make the llama pillow. I haven’t finished it yet, but it was easy to work with and a lot of fun. The reason that I am only giving it 3 stars is because I am concerned about durability.

I am an experienced knitter who has worked with a variety of yarns including premium quality. I think that this yarn is fine for crafts and perhaps a scarf for kids or a gift to grandma or teacher. It would certainly work for blankets but I think that the fibers will wear off and the blanket could easily tear due to the structure of it (toes getting caught in loops).

It is fine for light use like a shawl, a lap quilt, a coverlet, a doll blanket, a “blankie” that little ones like to drag around and lay on the floor with. But as far as a blanket that will get hard use (think teenage boys) I have my doubts.

Don’t hesitate to try it. Again, this is a great craft yarn for grandparents/parents/kids or for brownies/girlscouts to work on as a project. Just wash it on delicate or handwash (who wants to do that?) and dry it on low so that the fibers do not melt.

You can’t buy this online, so it would be fantastic if your app or website accurately displayed what was in stock. There is technology for that! I drove about 50 miles tonight to three different Walmarts in the area, and although the website said it was in stock, not one of the stores had it, and none of your associates wanted to help me.

I showed one of the clerks my phone, and she said, “Yeah, that’s not accurate. ” Other than that, I love it. It’s an amazing price and my blankets are really nice.

I love this yarn. Works up great. I was making a blanket with yarn bee eternal bliss from hobby lobby but they havent gad tbe medium gray in stock for a long time. So i purchased this yarn in charcoal and it matched perfectly with the thickness and texture.

You can even tell its a different brand of yarn. I am very pleased with this yarn. I would recommed this yarn if you want a super bulky yarn. Its about as big as your finger. It only has 31 yards per skein and will take about 8-10 skeins depending on how big you make your blanket.

I used my zippy looms. You can arm or finger knit with this as well.

I’ve been searching at different stores and online retailers with no success, trying to find a super chunky yarn to make a blanket for queen sized bed without breaking the bank. I went to a local Michaels and I see this baby! One skein of this yarn is 2.

2 lbs at 54 yards each for $25. 00! I couldn’t believe it. This is such a BARGAIN. I’ve gotten the pink color and it made a stunning blanket. Yes, it shed while I hand-knitted, just as I expected it, but nothing crazy that one vacuum sweep wouldn’t solve.

I live in South Florida so I’m using it mainly for decoration rather than for warmth. I have long nails so it snags very easily if I’m not careful when I place it on the bed each morning. Other than that, I see no cons to this yarn.

I will purchase these in white and grey for the living room and I can’t wait to get started. It is so relaxing and exciting making these. Definitely recommend while the sale lasts.

After reading some of the reviews I was a little concerned about the shedding and how the overlook would be. None the less I ordered this in silver (7 skeins) so that I can make a chunky blanket. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make a king size or 2 throws.

I used a little under 4 skeins to make a throw to go at the foot of my king bed and the size ended up being 4 ft by 8 ft. It has been many, many years since I crochet or knitted anything so I decided to hand knit in a chain stitch following a tutorial.

The overall experience was phenomenal and turned out beautifully. It stayed at the foot of my bed for about 2-3 weeks and it did shed a little. I decided to “felt” it by washing it in cold water, no detergent.

I just took it out of the washer to air dry and I can definitely see the difference. The yarn is no longer shedding and it is tighter to the touch. If you are hesitant give it a try. I couldn’t be happier.

Havent had an issue with shedding. Have a huge feeling those 1 star reviews are from people who dont understand how to work with roving yarn. They were most likly looking more for the wild and free tubular type chunky “yarn”.

Enjoyed working with this yarn and since it is 20% wool i was able to needle felt the ends togethee with no issues. Glad i bought it on clearance and spent little over $65 for 6 skeins to make a queen size hand knit blanket.

The first ball was fine and it knitted up well. It is a heavy worsted yarn. Ball two has been a nightmare. It’s full of “knots” where lengths are joined together. I came across so far two areas of frayed yarn.

I had to take out a row because the yarn is not useable. I’m now pulling out lengths of yarn prior to starting a row so I won’t have to stop in the middle of a row and go back and start the row again.

It’s an inexpensive yarn but I expected better quality.

Absolutely no splitting difficulty! I have crocheted for 15+ years and just took on knitting in the last couple of months. This was the yarn I chose for my first sweater and it’s working up beautifully.

Super easy to work with and not itchy at all. I was hesitant to start with wool for my first big knit project but knowing this is machine washable quelled my fears. Can’t wait to wear my new sweater.

I ordered more of this baby blanket yarn for a second project because I loved it so much! It is so soft; and washes up just as soft – no pilling. It is easy to work with – slides through my fingers and previous stitches with ease.

Excellent yarn. Already made 2 sweaters. Only downside of the buying experience was the webpage takes a long time to refresh. At times thinking it was my device or connection. Tried different devices and other websites not able to replicate.

I just bought this in white last night because there was no other options in cotton at the stores I went to. While I do like the fact that it’s for a good cause, I just don’t feel like one of them is for dishcloths.

it’s much thinner than the other brand even though it says it’s a 4 weight so you can’t mix them. it is also much rougher and even when using a smaller hook than suggested it still slips off and comes apart fairly easily which is frustrating.

Idk but to me it feels more like a butchers twine than a nice cotton for any type of cloth you would want near your skin, just my personal opinion though of course.

I purchased five skeins in three colors in order to make dish cloths. After rewinding the yarn, I’m experiencing a lot of tangles from the end section overlapping my working end. It’s annoying to constantly stop, unwind, knit a row, stop, unwind.

That said, the product has a soft yet sturdy feel. I’m enjoying working it up despite its tendency to slide around on my metal needles, and also really like the brand commitment to sustainability, which was a contributing factor in my decision to purchase.

Using the rest of my stash will determine whether I buy more in future.

I was looking for a more sustainable cotton yarn for a shirt that I’m knitting, and came across this one. In the past I’ve used sugar n cream and I like the texture of it. This yarn is a little thinner and a little less soft than sugar n cream but I tend to prefer textures like it.

If you are looking for a soft yarn, this product is not right for you. The color range is super pretty, especially the orange, yellow, purple, and green!.

Great quality. For a “thick” yarn, it did not split. My project worked up quickly!

This yarn is very soft and Thick I used size 10 knitting needles and made a sweater. It is warm and does not snag on things.

i bought a bunch of these because the price seemed decent and i really like some of the colors. the skeins are smaller and contain less yarn than i was expecting, which is a little disappointing. i’ve been using them to crochet a blanket/throw and it’s fine for that purpose but the texture is pretty poor.

it feels very rough and plasticy. i wouldn’t use this to make clothing, but for a throw, they’re ok.

This is a great yarn but people who are not used to crocheting or knitting for very long are fussy about it. I’ve made several Afghans and particularly one pattern that really looks beautiful with this yarn and it washes up beautifully if you do it the right way.

I have been knitting and crocheting since I’m seven years old and so that’s nearly 60 years now. I know what I’m talking about I’ve heard that they’re going to discontinue this yarn and I’m not pleased.

I have no idea why this is billed as “the Rolls Royce of Sock Yarns” — unless it means that it’s high maintenance. I got a couple balls of this yarn and had the same experience with both. About 2/3 of the way through the ball, the inner and outer ends wrap around each other.

The yarn is prone to tangling at the slightest touch to begin with, so it doesn’t take very long for these two ends to become virtually inseparable, leading to having to cut and knot the yarn — or just throw it away.

I thought perhaps re-winding the second ball ahead of time using my yarn winder might alleviate the problem but it just repeated itself. Doesn’t matter if you’re unwinding the yarn by hand or attempting to re-wind it, 2/3 of the way through you will have a marriage of ends that will cause a lot of frustration.

I probably lost 10 yards per ball to waste having to untangle, cut, and knot it. It is a strong ply, I’ll say that, and soft. But I wouldn’t recommend it given the nightmare of trying to work with it.

Love this yarn. Love all the colours, many of which I have previously bought & used. Used this colour to make socks for hubby. He loves them, warm, comfortable yet light to wear, not too chunky to wear with shoes.

Would definitely recommend.

Mesmerising colour change yarn that never repeats exactly giving a lovely finished garment. Tip, if there is a colour change that you dont like simply cut and rejoin yarn to suit. This yarn has a bright baby peach strand which repeats occasionally, I thought it was out of sinc with the other colours, so removed it.
