20 Best Yarn For Crocheting Blankets (2023 Updated)

I have to admit that the only reason I gave it a 4 is because I had to tie the yarns together at some of their transition points. If you do it correctly it’s not a big deal to take them apart and tie them back together.

Blanket yarns do that. The colors are beautiful, the texture is soft, the end result is warm and cozy and the project itself is just lovely.

I love this ombre yarn, the factory joined binding where the colors change are awful. I clip the little tiny area off and join by crocheting it in instead of knotting it. Because of the bulk it is hard to tie hide the knots.

This is the fourth baby blanket that I’ve made with Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn. I gave the first three to my nieces and nephews when they were born, and I’m making this one first my own first child. The blankets have been washed and dried many times, they are still soft and cozy.

I bought the large skeins for the first blankets – I could make a blanket using 2 skeins. However I’m using the all-pink color for my own blanket because they don’t sell it in the large skein, so I have to buy may more for this blanket.

Plus, Joann only sells this color online, which is a bummer. I recently found this color in store at another craft store. I wish Joann would sell this color in stores, and I wish Bernat sold this color in the large skein.

Overall, I am very happy with the yarn and I would buy it again.

My experience is a mixed one. First, make sure your project matches whichever color you use. I picked this yarn to make the Shadow Cable Blanket on Bernat’s website. I chose the Cosmos color, but it made it very hard to see the stitch because of the weird variegated color pattern.

Instead it looks like camouflage instead of how nice self striping yarn should form in a pattern. It would have looked better in a solid color since you want the stitch pattern to stand out. My fault for picking the color rather than going with the color on the example.

So that is a big disappointment. Since it is not ” yarn” there is no “give” and it was very stressful to my hands and wrists to knit with. My hands and wrists are still hurting. 2 balls out of the 6 I used were perfect.

The others had several knots. One ball had two within a yard of each other. That is very wasteful when you are trying to stay within gauge for a project to have to cut and restart each time. I only had 18 inches left at the end, which is cutting it pretty close, pun intended! Despite all that, I am sure the little guy I made it for will love it because it is so soft like a stuffed animal fur and makes you want to cuddle with it.

So, maybe once my memory lapses on how much trouble it was to use this yarn, I’ll be back for more. I guess I’m a glutton for self inflicted yarn abuse, lol.

I’ve crocheted 2 baby blankets so far, and plan to make more. Yarn is thick, requires bigger hook. Works up very quickly, it’s very gratifying. Although I needed to ‘pace’ myself as the larger tool and thick yarn caused my hands to ‘twist’ a little differently than regular yarn.

I didn’t want to get sore from working w/ it. I’m not complaining!! ~ I LOVE the yarn and the results. (for me about 5 small balls make a nice crocheted baby blanket (OR 2 of the large balls) for additional color combinations mix “Bernat Baby Blanket” and “Bernat Blanket” yarns together.

My pattern is easy and simple = use 2 colors. Crochet 3 (half double crochet) rows of one color. then crochet 3 rows (half double crochet) of 2nd color. Repeat until you run out of yarn. DONE. Makes about 35″X35″ blanket) I highly recommend this yarn.

I bought this yarn to do a quick baby blanket. I’ll grant it’s a soft yarn. However it’s difficult to work with. It’s Grabby, the skein I was working was full off tie-on knots. I tried different stitches, different crochet hooks.

Now I have to decide whether it goes back to the store or is donated to Project Linus. No more Bernat for me.

The yarn is great. This seller is another story. I found this yarn as “Bernat Blanket Brights Yarn, Pow Purple, 10. 5oz(300g), 2 Pack” $17. 98. “only 4 left” so I chose all 4. You shorted me 2 packs and now it looks like you’re charging me the new price.

You are a bad seller. Check proof your page before you publish it. Honor the price even if it is a mistake. If I see 60 dollars taken off my card, I’ll file a suit against you! Count on it!.

The yarn is good. The colors are bright, and the quality seems to be good as well. However, the skein, or as they call it, a ball of yarn, is just that. It has been very difficult to pull as I spend a lot of time untangling it instead of knitting.

Its like a backlashed fishing real. Thought it was maybe just the fist one, but I am now on my 3rd and they have all been tangled and hard to pull without stopping to untangle.

This plush yarn makes hand crochet easy. My daughter and I are having a great time making blankets for friends and family. Plenty of online tutorials to teach you how, step by step. Anyone can do it! It’s a wonderful way to spend time together and we’re thinking of ideas for other projects.

I do wish Bernat would make solid color yarn that is a direct match to the colors in the variegated yarns so we’d have more options for combinations. Some are close but just don’t work together; otherwise, a pretty good collection of colors.

I use Bernat Blanket Yarn all of the time. it makes the most fluffy, warm blankets. I give them to friends for Xmas and for Fall/Winter Birthdays. I received my order of 8 skeins of Bernat Blanket Dark Gray Yarn, excited that I was going to have my projects underway, as I had to order the other colors from Yarnspiration to complete my color choices.

This yarn was a TOTAL FAIL! It had the chenille fabric only on one side and the thread (string) was totally visible on the other side. There was no way around it. The work looked shabby/half done. I looked at another skein.

it was the same way, maybe worse. 8 skeins are on their way back to QVC. I believe in presenting perfect work, and this will not do it. I Love Bernat Blanket yarn. Just not this batch.

Love my Bernat Blanket Yarn. Makes soft, cushie blankets and so much warmer. Using a more compressed stitch, such as basketweave, it becomes an amazingly warm, heavy, winter blanket you’ll use on your bed year after year.

It’s wonderful to work with, slips across your crochet hook so easy you’ll search for other projects to make with it. Highly recommended.

First of all, why isn’t Bernat blanket called fleece? Bernat blanket’s texture is much closer to fleece than forever fleece is. While this is soft, it’s not plush like Bernat blanket. I tried a dozen different stitches and the only one that looked remotely nice is garter stitch, so this is not a versatile yarn.

And also not really fleece.

Discovered this Forever Fleece when a friend and I were shopping for yarn for the many upcoming baby blankets we will be making for all the pregnancies around us. It was by accident that I fell in love with Bernat’s Forever Fleece.

This is beautiful yarn!!! I purchased this yarn in the 10 pack to be used along with the dark gray Lead color and I was hesitant at first but they are GORGEOUS together. I’m not quite finished with the afghan that I’m making but don’t hesitate to purchase this Bernat blanket yarn, it is quality yarn and of the same thickness of the solid color yarns made by Bernat.

To be frank, you probably should feel this yarn in person to see if it’s for you. It works up incredibly soft in knit and crochet, but yes, it’s challenging to see stitches. I would probably pick this up if you want to make amigurumi and have experience with challenging yarns like chenille or boucle.

I’m sure there’ll be plenty of these when they do those end of season clearouts, so maybe hold out for a good deal ( the price feels high for the challenge it is).

While knitting you are unable to see your stitches do mistakes come easily. I’m making a throw blanket and because the yarn is fluffy the holes can easily be sewn up without notice. I hated this at first and now it’s my favorite.

Be ok with the mistakes and fix them later. The blanket is lovely – soft and warm.

this yarn is pretty and soft, but it is the worst yarn I have ever tried to work with. I can not tell one stitch from the other. I try to just feel my way, but it’s like trying to work up a cotton ball.

I have started over four times. plus the free and very cute bear pattern that was shown with it, has an error on the 4th row. The instructions don’t equal the count at the end of the row. I haven’t gotten any farther.

I have been buying Mary Maxim Baby Blankie Yarn since you first came out with it, and love the way the baby blankets I knit come out. during the pandemic I have been making at least 3 blankets a month for the expected baby boom.

thank you for a great product with a reasonable price so that I can support this habit and gifts for charity. please consider other colors please, or bring back the discontinued ones so I can use up my remnants.

It is not as dramatic in its color patterns as the yarn you used to Carry which I loved. It knits up easily but in less than ten inches knit, I have already experienced knots. When wiki g with self color changing yarn, every knot upsets the pattern.

I have only used part of one skein and hope knots are not a trend.

I love working with this yarn. The quality is good, the colors are awesome and it’s easy to work with. The skeins are huge and definitely worth the cost. Finished items look great! Probably my favorite yarn to work with.

I bought the colour “Den Helder” to knit a blanket for my friend. This yarn is described as hypoallergenic, which is perfect for us because I (as the knitter) has sensitive skin, while he (as the recipient) has allergies too.

This yarn is remarkably soft, and the colour is very vibrant, so it feels relaxing when the yarn goes through my hands as I knit. So far no problems with it, so I’m rating 5 stars.

This is a beautiful yarn with a gorgeous sheen and saturated color. I bought a pretty turquoise green color. It knits up into a wonderful soft feeling fabric with a nice drape. I’m knitting cables with it, and it shows them off really well.

It doesn’t split while knitting, and if I accidentally split a stitch, it is easily repaired and doesn’t change the look of the stitch. Also, if I need to frog back, the yarn holds up well, however it will get what I call “smoke rings” (those little frizz balls on the strand that can’t be pulled off and must be incorporated into your fabric) easily with too much handling.

This yarn is a treat to work with. It feels so good in my hands. I’m crocheting the Louet “pouch” and working with the khaki color now. The photo doesn’t capture the color, which in reality is a perfect olive drab.

I used Euroflax Sport to make my first market bag, but I wanted a slightly bigger yarn to fashion a slightly bigger bag, so I tried this Pima cotton DK. It is softer than the flax yarn and won’t take the same rough handling.

But it’s still strong and useful. I’m eager to use this gorgeous yarn for other projects. I just love the way it feels.

The color is a lovely sage green. I feel that this yarn was misrepresented. This yarn is more of a fingering weight yarn and not a DK. The suggested knitting needle on the label is 6 (4mm). I had to go down to a needle size 3 to make the yarn knit well.

As a result my knitting project is going to take a lot longer to complete. The cotton is very soft and I am concerned that the yarn will pill later, since it is beginning to pill now.
