Only 4 stars? Here’s why: 1. The extra slot for the SSD is located on the ‘bottom’ of the motherboard. The Rog Case purchased has an open area for this kind of thing however, the drive slot is covered requiring the removal of the motherboard just to install the extra SSD.

2. The Digital Sound jumper block is located ‘underneath’ a completely visually aesthetic plastic cover. The need to leave the jumper block unobstructed or bend the jumper wires at a 90deg are the only choices (if you want it connected).

3. MOST IMPORTANT! Best Buy touts the Corsair iCue cooling fans as being sold with this motherboard. It is NOT compatible. Get the ROG Cooling fans for the ROG motherboard for perfect match without hassle.

4. Only 1 connection for a “USB 3. 1 Type-C Port” on the back of the board. The ROG case comes with another Port on it, however no extra connection on the board to hook it up. Is all this nitpicking? More time cleaning up these little tidbits could have made this an excellent board, instead of only ‘compatible’ with other products.

Very impressed with the features of this tiny package. Paired it with a 5700g, 32gb of 3200, and two 1tb SSDs. This puppy absolutely screams, whilst keeping all of the included hardware nice and cool.

Flawless installation of windows 11. The bios was already up to date. Asus Armory Crate works just fine for the onboard rgb. The included SSD heatsink does seem to make a noticeable difference. Compared to the ssd I have installed on the backside, the heatsink on the front reduces temps by 5-10c The board itself is sturdy and well made.

Heavy duty active cooled heatsinks on the VRMs, nice 8pin CPU power. You could use this thing to drive a 5950x 🙂 10/10 would use again!.

Vrms, vrms, vrms. This motherboard has the best power delievery I’ve seen, and this is on a mini itx. You are only limited by temperature when OC with this motherboard. The built in fans on the heatsink for the vrm is genius on this very small package.

Vrm temps rarely go over 60c on a 5800x @ 4. 8ghz all core. It will stay at 55c or below when gaming and CPU boost hitting 4. 7-5ghz. Lots of USB ports which I need amd the wifi 6ax is wonderful, my last Asus b450 mini itx board I upgraded from wifi5 to wifi6 so it was awesome to see they used Intel ax200.

A shame they still use the old version of the USB 3. 0 header on the motherboard. WHY!!!!!! You have to use an adapter for most cases that use the new headers. The board also need at least 1 more fan header.

Using fan splitter cable is good and all but for a mitx build it is much too cramped for more cables. One more con is the backside motherboard vrm heatsink. Works great. but if you have a universal CPU water block mount kit like a corsair xc7, it will not fit as the bracket is AMD and Intel mounts on it and its too large.

A dedicated amd bracket works great.

IšverstiShow in original languageOverall, it is a simple overclocking motherboard that does all the work for you while you go make chicken tendies in the microwave and watch something but it comes at a price that most people aren’t aware they will have to pay.

If you have experience overclocking and tinkering and what not then I fully recommend this board, if you need a lot of fan, RGB, or Dual AIO headers then again full recommendation. If you just need a MOBO for plugging in a AMD CPU then sure buy this.

BUT if you don’t need any of those features then save your money and buy a cheaper board. Because I guarantee your monkey brain is gonna enter the BIOS and open a can of worms that’s going to be a hidden slowdown factor in your computer.

I gave it 4 stars because in the right hands this board is awesome, BIOS is robust and allows for a lot of tweaking, AI Suite is a champ that allows for big numbers to be pushed with ease and simplicity, fan headers fan headers fan headers it can be a wind tunnel with all these headers, and for its style.

And before you think “Wow 4 stars? But your Cons are so long and in depth while your pros are skimpier than a girls Halloween costume”, then sure I guess but I wanted to provide plenty of details for the cons because the Pros don’t really need it and the whole page is a marketing scheme laying out the pros in great detail I’m just outlining them, because no good salesman is going to say “Yea we have this one-click optimization which makes overclocking super simple and easy to use BUT it will become a dominatrix and make every other software bow before its might”.

IšverstiShow in original languageI purchased this motherboard along with a AMD 5950X CPU, AIO cooler, 64MB RAM, case, and a new PSU in order to upgrade a PC used for software development. I already had a recent 1Tb SSD and graphics card that were working well on the old PC.

The reason I am marking this down is that I have been building/upgrading PCs for about 30 years, and I have never had so much trouble getting an upgrade to work. First problem: the system wouldn’t boot at all (nothing on the display), although the power button and power LED were working.

After checking all the connections and trying disconnecting the reset button, I found a suggestion on the web: clear the CMOS settings. I have never had to do this before when installing a brand new motherboard; but it got me the BIOS screen.

Second problem: the BIOS complained that I had only installed a 4-pin CPU power connector. It’s good that it detects this; but it was wrong. The PSU provided two 4-pin connectors for SPU power, so I had plugged one into the 4-pin socket and one into the 8-pin socket (after checking the pin connections), because the second 4-pin connector wouldn’t lock into the 8-pin socket.

So then I had to remove the cooling radiator to get at the power sockets again, in order to plug both 4-pin connectors into the 8-pin socket (with one not locking in place), and then re-install the radiator.

Third problem: it complained that the CPU fan was not running – despite the fact that it was was showing me the RPM of my AIO cooler that was plugged into the AIO Cooler socket per the instructions. This is dumb – you don’t have both a CPU fan and an AIO cooler.

It took me a while to find the BIOS setting where I could tell it to ignore the CPU cooler RPM. Fourth problem: it then booted into the BIOS without any error messages, but went into the BIOS every time, with no explanation as to why.

Probing around the BIOS, I eventually provoked a message “No boot devices found” when I tried to configure the boot order. Why didn’t it say this at the start? After yet more research on the web, It turned out that I needed to enable a compatibility mode in the BIOS to enable booting Windows 10 from my (only 2-year old) SSD.

After updating the BIOS because of a USB issue that the later BIOS versions appear to have a fix for, I had to go through the last two steps again. This motherboard now appears to be working well. However, this installation took me several hours more than I am used to.

I’ve always regarded ASUS as a premium brand and been happy to pay the extra; but now I’m not so sure. The BIOS on my board (purchased late April 2021) was version 2606, which was fortunately the minimum BIOS version needed to support the 5950X CPU.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought this motherboard because of it’s features AND that it was white (I was doing a white themed build on my new PC). This had headers for both USB3 C and A (10/5gbps respectively) that I needed for my case, PCI gen 4 M2’s (both!).

The only complaint I have is that there is only 1 M2 heatsink, which also covers the M2 screw which means if you ever have to take the M2 drive out, you’ll have to remove the heatsink in order to get the screw off and then clean everything up and get new paste (or whatever these heatsinks use for bonding).

Also, there’s no flashback so you need a processor to update the bios. Luckily the board I got already had a new enough bios installed to work with my Zen 3 processor. Even though the printing on the board indicated an older bios it was updated to the October bios release.

So if you buy this with a Zen 3 you may not need to bother installing an older processor. I used AMD’s boot kit program and had it all installed and ready to update when I realized it was already new enough.

Also, I have read that a lot of folks have had trouble with the latest bios release (dec 2020) for this and other ASUS boards. I would not recommend updating the bios to any version newer than is presently installed unless you are already experiencing problems.

Version 2802 is working fine for me with my ryzen 5 5600x and corsair 32gb vengeance ram. The board looks nice, with some RGB (but not overkill). THe board took a bit more force than I am used to when installing in my case.

Perhaps it was a case design issue (Phantek P600s) but eventually it snapped in (the IO shield area seemed tight but it just took a bit of extra force). All in all I am quite happy (so far!).

Ordered this motherboard along with a 5950x proc, 1000w Phanteks PSU and dd4 4000 ballistics max 32gb (16×2). Out of the box had a ton of issues like usb ports that wouldn’t recognize Windows 10 installer (actual one from Microsoft physical retail box usb), or usb drive with new BIOs as shipped BIOS didn’t recognize 5000 series proc.

Took some McGuyver like monkeying around like using a type-c adapter to get USB devices recognized to get past that problem. Once I got the A7 bios in place the proc was recognized and usb ports started working normally, I could proceed with W10 install.

OS installed but didn’t find network adapters, downloaded from msi site on laptop and installed via usb, finally had internet. It shouldn’t have been this hard, after all that ran ok for 3 weeks then started crashing with XMP on, turned that off, was stable for another week then started crashing again, disabled Game Boost and got another week of stability now keeps crashing even after a OS wipe and reinstall.

MSI techsupport never called me back after leaving a message and never picked up after being on repeat music loop for 3hrs 1st call and 4hrs the next. Do yourself a favor stay away from this product and I would even say MSI in general.

I bought this x570 unify about a week ago, and I am completely in love with it. It’s the perfect match for my 3900x. The construction quality of the board is off the charts! The VRM heatsink is one huge chunk of solid metal.

In fact, the only plastic found on this motherboard, are the connectors and slots. Everything else, is heavy metal. I have yet to see the VRM’s hit above 40c, even when doing some manual overclocking.

So far, it has been extremely stable when I override the voltages. The bios is beautifully laid out. It is straight forward, every parameter is easily found due to its logically laid out fashion. By the way, as of today, November 30th, the EDC exploit is still live and well, within the latest bios.

I did a cinebench R23 with the exploit running (300/300/10) and got a score of 19,836. Without manual EDC, I was getting just under 19k. My current setup consists of x570 Unify 3900x 64 gb 3600 cl16 Crucial Ballistix Power Color Radeon Rx 6800 3x 2tb WD Black NVME ( 2 in RAID 0, 1 for Boot) NZXT X73 360 AIO NZXT C850 PSU Home made open chassis test bench.

The MSI MEG X570 Unify is a fantastic motherboard. It is packed with features like PCI Gen 4, front usb type C connector, power and reset buttons on the board, LED code/temperature display, monsterous power delivery with massive heat sinks, high quality on-board 7 channel sound, 3 m.

2 ssd connectors, addressable RGB with a Corsair connection as well, and a well equipped I/O panel. There is a good deal more but that is all that comes to mind. The RAM compatibility is top notch. I have two 32GB sticks of Corsair RAM and I am able to run them at 3600MHZ with timings of 16-18-18-36 and it easily handles my Ryzen 9 3900XT processor with an aggressive overclock.

It is a very attractive looking board with a black out design and no onboard RGB so it will look great in a professional rig or gaming rig. I can not say good things enough. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this fantastic board.

This is my review of the replacement board I received, as the first board had a memory channel fail on it. I’ve been running this board for approximately 3 months, and right now I can say that this is the best looking board from ASUS that I’ve ever purchased.

Very nice board layout, and has all the features that someone would want. Even though this board looks nice, it does have a problem. I have Gskill FlareX 3200 mhz 16 GB CL16 RAM, and when I initially turn on DOCP and reboot, the system will reconfigure itself and do memory training for the DOCP, then after a restart of the system, it will do its fast boot during post, bypassing memory training.

After about 30 to 40 reboots “or shutdowns” The Motherboard Q code readout will show code 90, then will start memory training again with q code 14 and 15. The Motherboard will then boot loop twice before it posts.

I thought maybe my 3800x was bad, so I swapped it out for an older 2600. That CPU didnt hold DOCP settings for 4 days, and on a reboot, the q code readout showed q code 90, and got stuck. I had to reset the CMOS to get it to reboot.

I switched back to the 3800x. If I manually set the RAM to the timings and set the frequency to 2933, i dont have any memory issues. It even works fine at 2133. I tested the CPU and RAM on my ASUS Prime X470-Pro, and I have no issues with DOCP on that board.

The RAM sticks is not on the QVL list for this board, but is on the QVL list for my X470 Board. However, since it is AMD optimized memory, it should work just fine on the ROG Board. I updated to the latest BIOS revision, and im hoping that will help improve the memory issue.

Right now its been running at DOCP for 2 days since the BIOS update. Ill post an updated review if anything changes. For a Motherboard at this price, I expected better stability than this. Right now I cannot recommend this board for the memory reason alone.

I was still running a GTX 1080 FTW SLI setup and I chose this board because of the ability to keep my SLI rig until GPU prices got a little more sane. The SLI setup ran well on this board (for the games I played that still supported SLI).

After a while I got an Asrock RX 6900 XT and it runs well on the board too. The CPU I ordered with the board was the Ryzen 9 5950x which booted up right off the bat. I ordered some 4000Mhz memory and when I enabled D.

O. C. P. it wouldn’t run stable at that speed. I manually dropped it down to 3600 and all was well. After the latest BIOS update I was able to re-enable D. O. C. P. and when it set the memory at 4000Mhz it remained stable.

Another thing I like is that I haven’t had any sleep problems with this board. It will go to sleep and wake up reliably with Windows 11 which I greatly appreciate. The only time I found that it would wake up was when I plugged up an old access point to my network.

I just went to the NIC in the Device Manager and unchecked the option to allow that device to wake the computer and it went back to staying asleep. All in all I’m very pleased with this board. It has a lot of options that I will probably never use (I don’t give a rip about RGB anything and I’m not an overclocker) and it has almost every option I wanted.

The one option I miss from my old Asrock board was the ability to power it on by clicking the mouse button. Since the sleep function works well that hasn’t been a big issue for me.

I got this MB (motherboard) for a Ryzen 7 5800x CPU. I was initially eyeing a different Asus MB that was a bit cheaper and minus things I didn’t need like the onboard WiFi. They were out of stock when I got to the store however and this board was my fallback plan.

The build quality and look of the MB is great and what I have come to expect from Asus. Pros: Has a lot of peripheral connections such as many fan pin connections and even one dedicated for a water cooler pump.

Supports a lot of RGB options if that is your thing and has a lot of high speed USB ports and the very useful BIOS flashback option for upgrading the BIOS via USB instead of having to power on the PC and do it manually.

Seems stable and performs very well if the right BIOS is on it. Cons: For the newer Ryzen CPU this MB definitely needed a BIOS update. The included one from the store was new enough to support the 5800x I bought, but it wasn’t always stable and was missing some of the capabilities of more advanced features relating to SAM (important if you want to use a Radeon 6xxx video card and Ryzen 5 CPU to work together as advertised).

Was having some stability issues when trying to overclock my RAM initially to the certified and advertised speeds as well. A BIOS update to the newest release fixed all issues for me except that I can’t quite get the full speed from my RAM still (should be 4200 but can only get 4000 from it safely).

Wish it had a dedicated USB port for improved DAC performance like several competitors such as Gigabyte support at this price point. All in all I am happy with the performance and abilities of this MB.

The AI suite software that comes with the board is fairly useful for a lazy man’s overclock of the CPU and was effective enough for me. The documentation was good for getting everything connected correctly and helping me to ensure memory settings were correct.

Would recommend this MB to gamers and enthusiasts as a solid choice, but make sure you’re using the more recent BIOS (from Feb 2021 onward).

I think this is a good board once I got everything working. But I had a scare when first setting it up due to buggy firmware. (The latest firmware version seems to be OK. ) When I first tried to boot with this board and a Ryzen 5800x CPU the computer would not POST, and I could not get into the UEFI settings.

The yellow DRAM light came on, and stayed on. At first I thought I would need to install a firmware update to support my CPU. At that point I was disappointed to learn that this board’s firmware cannot be updated without a working CPU.

But it turns out that was not the problem. After swapping lots of components around to try to isolate the problem the computer finally booted after I switched power supplies – but the DRAM light remained on.

I don’t think this was a PSU issue as everything worked when I switched back to my original PSU; but it’s possible one of the cables was not fully seated the first time around. Based on my research I think the problem was RAM instability that resulted in a situation where the computer would only boot one out of every several attempts.

(I’m using CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600), and yes I did try booting with one stick, and swapping the sticks while debugging. ) I installed firmware version 3405 which lists “stability improvements” among its changes – since then everything has worked smoothly even with DOCP enabled.

Being an older computer user and not having built a system in at least a decade, I found the support and documentation on this board to be very, very poor. First of all, ASUS sets up their support page like a Government institution; lots of nice links to click upon BUT NO path through the wilderness.

You are urged to download an app to communicate and then send in proof of purchase documentation before they will even begin making the scripted, basic suggestions that drive even novices wild with frustration.

You’re not fooling anyone ASUS. Anyway, I purchased this MB to build a nicer DaVinci Resolve grading system; nicer than my ancient Dell T5400 which does amazingly well for it’s age and handicaps. My build (to start with) consists of an AMD 3900x Ryzen chip, the motherboard above, Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750 W ps, 2 x 1TB Sabrent Rocket Q NVMe PCIe M.

2 2280 SSD and a EVGA Geforce GXT Titan X 12GB video card (Maxwell). I had the misfortune to forget to use a wired mouse, keyboard and DVI connected monitor to set up the system and pulled out what little hair I have when BIOS changes or reboots left me with a black screen.

Of course, I figured out later, that the Titan didn’t display the default video resolution upon reset on the Display port, so I went through endless BIOS changes (guessing all the time and running through endless Youtube videos), BIOS resets and swapping components in and out before I realized my mistake.

In the end, I simply should have left the BIOS on default, put one of my Sabrent M. 2 cards in the top slot and booted from Windows install media while using a wired mouse, wired keyboard and older monitor with DVI connector attached to the Titan.

Once I figured that out 20 hours later, it went smoothly. While I own a lot of this mess, I DO blame ASUS for their very poor documentation and even more poor support experience. Not everyone is a full-time gamer, living and breathing the latest computer technology updates, so the documentation should be better.

Also, their support if you can stomach it attitude makes me quite angry. I work for the Federal Government and I think they could learn a thing or two from ASUS on passing the buck and being passive in their support efforts.

In conclusion, I really haven’t tested the system for it’s intended purpose; just the build makes me want to pull a week long bender, but I suspect that there will be more bumps in the road ahead, but that in the end I will figure it out with the help of other on the Internet, but probably with no help from ASUS.

I givs CCL moneyz. They gives me this. It’s a motherboard. I connect things into it and it shines pretty lights and makes my pc pieces and stuffs do their thingies. It has a distinct lack of usb ports for a full atx motherboard.

The thermal slug. ekhm. thermal pad that for some reason is situated above my nvme ssd(ha, threw half that thing in the garbage where it belongs. ) was cooling the controller which is nice, and cool.

nyeh nyeh, pun intended. but it was also touching the actual memory chip which wears down less when hot so. thermal pad bad! I would cut off anything that isn’t touching the ssd’s controller off and do what I did- Begone that THOT(THermal ObfuscaTion) into a landfill or somewhere where they can be disposed of safely and environmentally friendly if yr that sensitive to toxicity.

Memory overclocking on this motherboard is nice, at least a noob like me thinks so. Idk why it has so much vrms but there you go, might outlast my cpu at the temps it’s reporting to be running at with, those nice caps.

Pcie slots are designed to allow for running multiple 3 slot devices which is quite considerate. (Imagine being able to afford 2 top of the line 3 slot gpus when they go for 5x msrp price. ) The little plastic piece of doo doo which the mobo wants you to use in order to connect all of the front io switches into before connecting the whole assembly to the mobo slot was so bad I’ve given up after 5 minutes of trying to squeeze these tiny cables into it (why was I born with sausage hands ma?! why? I’m skinny and these sausages are so THICC?!?) and just did it like a normal human being.

by plugging the cables in without it. The ram slots are “reinforced”. Idk why. Someone their customer service dealt with in the past was smart enough to tear them out from a motherboard when servicing ram at home? Is that something that happened in real life? Dayum.

man’s be stronk not smert sometimes. It comes with a nice cup coaster. It even has a brand name, something something DVD? Idk why but it has a little hole in the middle. It has pretty debug lights, too bad they only light up when something in your system is messed up, oh well, can’t have it all am I right? It even has additional voltage rails for you to attach your non existent pro hardcore gamer tag overclocking devices into.

I like this motherboard, is it worth the price? Yes if you need everything this mobo has to offer and nothing less. You don’t need 1 or two things? Well then buy something cheaper that doesn’t have those things since you will be spending your money on nothing.

I also liked how it smelled out of the box, I love the smell of chemicals in the morning. I hope my review has helped you in your shopping and you will be making a slightly more informed buyers choice now.

I won’t recommend this product. I’ve faced a booting issue with this mb. Suddenly, my pc got shut down. After that, it did not even boot-up. Nothing turned on except Power LED in mb. I have searched in tech forums and found a similar issue faced by many folks with this mb.

Search for “Gigabyte X570 Master Booting issue” in google. You will find many posts related to it. Tried those solutions but none has helped me. I have returned this mb(7 days old) and got a new one.

New one worked fine but sometimes it’s not booting the OS then I need to press the power button to turn off and turn on again. I don’t know if it’s having any other issues and when it’s going to die.

I bought this AM4 socket board to pair with new 5000 series 12/16 core monsters. All X570 boards are supposed to support 5000 series at launch. First AMD build in my life. Great amount of fan connectors which made my build so easy and all of them support PWM control which can be controlled using bios.

First RGB build this one, and found 2 different positions on the board supporting RGB headers, great convenience for addressing RGB bling appropriately. All independent tech reviews point to a solid VRM solution for overclocking stability, so was reassured of the quality.

Many reviewers put this board at the top of the x570 desirability stack. Additionally I wanted two USB3. 0 front panel headers, which were supported by this board. Built in Wifi 6 so saves 60-70 dollars for getting aftermarket solution.

Additionally, it supports faster ethernet speeds (2. 5G) vs 1G found generally. Useful if connecting to faster fileserver at home (though, have to add a faster ethernet adapter to it too). All bells and whistles of x570 chipsets included.

PCIE-gen4 is the selling point of this board which is useful for faster storage (gen4 NVMe drives), not so much for graphics cards todAy as PCIe-gen3 is still fast enough for graphics. To note: upper 2 NVMe are pice-gen4 and 3rd slot is pcie-gen3.

If using the 3rd slot, 2 SATA ports are inactivated. I think a good buy if pairing with higher core AMD processors.

IšverstiShow in original languageI got this board as it was one of the most popular motherboards for the X570 chipset. I originally purchased an MSI X570-A Pro but returned that because of a defect with CPU power, and I wanted more features like the front USB-C header, better thermals, M.

2 heat sync, etc. The installation was easy and it actually came with a paper manual unlike the A Pro. Plenty of fan, A-RGB, RGB headers. The bios is easy to understand like the previous MSI board and setting up PWM controls and XMP were easy, which is essentially all I need for my case as I don’t do any overclocking.

Returning this however, since the coil whine coming from the socket/VRM is ridiculously loud and driving me insane. CPU is a Ryzen 9 5900X. It was originally a beeping at around 40bpm, so I updated the bios and now it’s just a constant whine along with a buzzing like something’s hitting a fan.

I have (7) Arctic 140mm and 120mm fans in my case and the whine is louder than all of those at idle and noticeable at load. It also doesn’t help that I use open-back headphones as well. I couldn’t find any info about this motherboard in particular having bad coil whine on any forum, reviews, etc.

, so I am not sure if I was unlucky again and had an especially bad board, but at this point I am done with MSI after getting 2 “bad” motherboards in a row. Will be trying out Asus again with whom I have had experience in the past.

Other cons, one is nitpicky: The Wifi is horrible. I have to use Wifi instead of ethernet due to room layout. Windows says the latest drivers are installed, and in fact they are properly installed, but the connection drops every few minutes making it pretty much unusable.

the RGB LED’s on the back of the board are just tacky and look bad cuz they’re just dots on the back of the case because they’re right up against it.

The bad: 1. The clear cmos jumpers are in a poor spot if you have a vertically mounted gpu, you have to remove the gpu every time unless you connect to your case reset button (not the best idea, but when you need to reset while troubleshooting it saves disassembly).

2. The game mode in the BIOS is trash, actually hinders performance, worse benchmarks while raising clock speeds and Temps. Userbenchmark cpu scores and Cinebench score dropped significantly over stock clock speeds on Ryzen 9 5900x 3.

The user manual and website are missing some vital information on shared bandwidth between Sata ports and pcie ports. 4. Placement of all system fan headers at the bottom of the board could cause cable routing problems for full size towers without using extensions.

Plan ahead. 5. The integrated vrm fan is loud at speed, doesn’t really do all that much for cooling. The ugly: 1. Dimm slot A1 will no longer post using xmp, board was purchased Oct 31, 2021 2. Dragon center/MSI Center software is buggy, ram leaks, and rgb doesn’t save settings.

I will personally be looking to go back to asus products as my experience with a few msi products has been rather disappointing. See my review of the MPG CoreLiquid k360.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is my first WIFI enabled board which is actually what initially attracted me to it. From scouring the web, its is the lowest tier MSI offers that has full PCI 4 bus on all lanes which is what I want to further future proof for newer cards and SSDs moving forward.

To start, I would mention that the placement of the CPU socket is probably a little higher than usual. I bought a larger than usual cooler (Noctua D-15). This caused some issues when trying to install in a case that left little headroom for my hands to fit in and install cables for fans/cpu power.

Apart from that, installing everything was simple and a breeze. The inclusion of a fixed IO brick(?)/panel made seating the board simple and plugging in easy. The board actually came with a newer version of the BIOS preinstalled that made it compatible with Ryzen 5XXX series CPUs which saved me a big hassle in installing new BIOS.

However it should be mentioned MSI offers a BIOS installation method that allows you to upgrade without a CPU! Which is quite handy. Initially I was upset because the board has RGB and it was something I wanted to avoid.

The back side of the board has a series of lights I totally missed in all photos or vids. It can be turned off with MSI’s custom RGB software (of course) but it was a surprise I don’t remember being mentioned or shown anywhere when I purchased.

This is a great board. I had a lot of fun installing and setting everything up and I would attribute my problems with cabling and seating with the cooler more user error. For what I wanted out of it, WIFI and Bluetooth natively on the board and PCI-E 4.

0, it has been perfect. You can probably get some of the same for less from MSIs other projects, but for a semi future proof (at the moment) board its hard to beat.

UPDATED 10-8-2020 – 10 months in, still in love with this board! Original review: I LOVE this board overall (so far – as of this review on 12/5/2019, I have had it about a week). The insane amount of USB ports on the back are great for me, as I run a small project studio with USB audio interfaces and other USB music gear.

With everything connected, I still have 5 to 6 open ports, including the option to upgrade to a new USB C audio interface down the road. Installing this board was a little bit of a challenge for me in my Corsair Graphite 760t case for a few reasons.

The inputs for ALL of the main connectors like the motherboard power, USB 2/3 headers etc are on the SIDE of this board. For the most part, everything plugged in without issue, but with the 3. 0 header cable for my case being a thicker cable, I really had to bend/flex it to get it seeded properly.

It is some what pressing forward in the boards port. It works just fine, but that to me, was worth mentioning. With all the main connectors being on the side, some cases may be a little harder to work with when plugging cables to it.

The metal heat plates on the lower end of the board are great to keep the chipsets cool, but can be a pain to work with if you want to connect all your headers and have M. 2 drives to install. For example, the front audio header for a mic/headphone connection on a case appears to be UNDER one of the main heat sinks.

So you would have to remove it and leave it off if you want the front case audio ports to work. Not a huge deal to me, as I never use them, so I just left the heat sinks on and didn’t connect it. But for those who make use of the headphone and mic jacks on the front of your case, this can be an annoyance.

There are also pieces that need screws removed to gain access to M. 2 drives. Not a HUGE issue, but does add to the system build time and hassle dealing with multiple screws and removable pieces. I am using the Ryzen 3900x cpu, and I updated to Bios version f10 before doing anything.

The update was simple to do. I went to Gigabyte’s site. downloaded the latest Bios version, and installed it to a USB drive. Keep in mind, your USB drive MUST BE FORMATTED IN FAT32 or the board will NOT read it.

You also need to plug your flash drive into the the WHITE USB port on the back of the board. One of the annoyances I personally have with this board is the lack of multiple USB 2. 0 headers. For a board going for a future ready design, I can support this decision.

However, I am running a NZXT Kracken x62 AOI on my CPU as well as a set of Corsair RGB fans. Both cables for the cooler and the fan controller have a need for a USB 2. 0 header, and this board only has one 2.

0 header on it. The others are the newer USB 3 headers. Again, solid choice for a future style board, but a small obstacle for me. I read that NZXT has a special box you can buy with more header options on it, but I decided to just get a cable with a USB header on one end and 2 standard USB female inputs on the other.

I then bought 2 USB mini to USB standard cables, and ran those from the cooler and fan controller to the 2. 0 header cable and everything was golden. I feel that with a lot of USB 2. 0 header devices still out there, a second 2.

0 header included on the board would have been better. But for future proofing, I can see why multiple USB 3 and USB C headers where added instead. I have ran Prime95, Valley benchmark, and the ROG Real bench tools, and this board performed fantastic with all of them.

Thermals where solid, and I had no issues with blue screens. (I have not done any overclocking on this board yet, so I can’t comment on those situations). The board itself is super well made, and it just feels like a beefy piece of gear when handling it.

It weighs more then any other board I have ever worked with, which is to be expected with all the metal heat sinks and full metal back plate on it. I have only been running on it for a week, so I can’t comment on the longevity of it, but if it is like all the other Gigabyte boards I have used, it will stand the test of time.

I am excited to get my hands on a couple 2TB M. 2 SSD with PCIe 4. 0 speeds to see what kind of loading times and transfer speeds I can get between drives. Overall, this board is fantastic, ready for the future, and to me, well worth the price.

If you are using this motherboard and are seeing slowdown and freezing from programs and file explorer in Windows 10; it’s most likely due to RGB Fusion 2. 0. Turn it off and you should see that your computer becomes stable.

This is my first Gigabyte motherboard and the motherboard itself hasn’t given me issues as far as I’m aware. Although I like the board myself, I can’t recommend this board due to how expensive it is.

That is unless you do extreme overclocking and or looking for fanless cooling for the chipset. If you are looking for a fanless design for the x570 chipset, this is your only option as of this time of this review.

I’m knocking two eggs off of my review because of the RGB, or more specifically the way you control it, as RGB Fusion 2. 0 the only way to control the on board rgb lighting. After about a week or so with this motherboard I started to notice that file explorer had become slow, unresponsive, and would crash frequently.

This effected all of my other programs and games as well. I’ve spent about three weeks of troubleshooting. I tested the CPU, RAM, storage devices, GPU drivers, Windows updates, and BIOS settings and nothing fixed the issue.

The only solution I found was doing a fresh install of windows, but the issues would crop again eventually. I contacted Gigabyte support last week, only for them to give me a generic response yesterday, about week later, that told me to do the same exact troubleshooting that I had already done.

They were as clueless as I was. It wasn’t until yesterday that I had payed attention to RGB Fusion 2. 0. I have been using disk manager to see when my computer would start to slow down. If disk manager wouldn’t load, I knew that my computer would start to become unusable.

I saw that it loaded just fine when the computer started sometimes, but not all the time. I figured that one of my programs that start after windows might be the cause. I after trial and error, I found out that, when it’s on, RGB fusion 2.

0 grinds windows to a halt. It sounds silly that it took me so long to find out, but I never suspected a program from the same manufacturer of the board would render my computer useless. Unfortunately I’m not sure why RGB Fusion 2.

0 is doing this, but I know it was the cause of my issues. If you have similar issues too then I encourage you to turn off RGB Fusion 2. 0 after it loads your rgb configuration, you might find it is the cause of your issues too; even if you don’t have the same Gigabyte motherboard.

Gigabyte needs to sort out it’s software, I thought that I had a broken motherboard on my hands because their software.

Overall I really like the X570 Xtreme. I chose it because I wanted 3x PCI-e 4. 0 NVME RAID support, onboard 10G, fanless chipset and excellent overclocking support. The amount of connectivity is perfect, plenty of USB including two Typc C (one front panel one rear).

I don’t get why manufacturers keep putting Wifi on these boards, if you’re specifically seeking out a board with 10Gig then chances are you’re probably using 10Gig but whatever. What I really like is that it’s a slick looking board, I figure since I’m going all out on this build I might as well get something that looks really nice.

I’m not impressed with the NVME RAID support. It does actually work quite well, but the setup was a pain. The BIOS options are odd to enable it, especially if you’re booting off a non-M. 2 NVME SSD. My OS isn’t actually installed on the RAID but if you think you can just simply load the RAID drivers afterward think again.

Its a giant pain if you didn’t load all three RAID driver INF files during Windows install even if you’re not actually installing Windows onto the RAID. The management software simply won’t run unless the drivers were installed during OS installation.

What doesn’t improve the situation is the RAID management software is straight outta 2005. Think mid-2000’s Adaptec. I do kinda wish this board came with something that really made it a killer value, all the features I listed are great and I wouldn’t have accepted anything other than a top level flagship board for this build – but with it commanding a flagship board price I wish some of the extras it came with more.

cool? I mean the RGB fan commander is nice and all, but that is also included with much more affordable boards too. The included stickers are lame “DO NOT DISTURB EPIC G4M3R’S ROOM” type junk. Really? Might’ve liked that at 15 years old but not at double that age.

If it came with a decent quality keyboard/mouse mat or a newly released game or something that would’ve been great. I mean my GPU and CPU both came with new games, why not this too? Overall though this is a board for the “ultimate” build.

This isn’t for everyone, I think for a lot of people the value just isn’t there. But if you’re going absolutely all out then accept no substitute.

The first board I received was defective. USB 3 header and rear I/O jacks were the first to go. I say “first to go” because upon initial boot, they worked. I had audio through my speakers, and I used the front USB panel (connects to the USB 3 header on MOBO) to successfully update the BIOS.

At some point, they just stopped working for me. Speakers no longer detected, and the front USB panel wouldn’t read anything. I spent many hours troubleshooting, thinking driver issues were to blame (I was switching from MSI MOBO).

I already knew the basic troubleshooting steps like checking for latest drivers, uninstalling them, reinstalling them, trying different versions, running troubleshooter programs, etc. but had no luck.

Went through various forums and such, trying to dig deeper for the issue and even chatted with ASUS who told me to just RMA the thing lol after some driver screenshot verifications. Well, I really didn’t want to go through RMA process and I could get audio with my wireless headphones via rear USB, so I was actually considering just putting up with it.

It wasn’t until one of my three intake fans and both of my radiator fans stopped functioning that I finally decided to return it. The entire RMA process, from the time I shipped it to the time I received a replacement, took about 2 weeks.

That’s perfectly fine in my opinion, especially during these times. In the meantime I reinstalled by older motherboard and had zero issues. I received the replacement this last Wednesday and waited for this weekend to install again.

Zero issues now. Just a pain to do so many motherboard swaps! All that aside, I really do like this motherboard as well as the ASUS utility programs. Armoury Crate is pretty cool. It serves a the HUB for Aura, has an update center, and even a game store with discounts.

There are many profile options that seem to suggest the ability to customize lighting/volume/etc per game. I haven’t messed with it yet. It can basically function as a game launcher too. It is integrated also through right-clicking the desktop and having a quick game launch option, which I though was neat.

There is also the AI Suite 3 program that use for tuning all of my hardware fans. The interface is great. I really don’t understand why the actual BIOS is so slow, regarding the cursor speed. It seems to be less than 30Hz.

MSI BIOS ran at 60Hz. and the ASUS BIOS looks so much better which just makes it seem odd to run so slowly. You really are better off using the keyboard. I also wish they didn’t have their own unique names for common BIOS options like X-AMP.

And trying to set custom RAM values from DRAM calculator is a headscratcher thanks to that as well. There are a few things. I just can’t tell what they mean. I had zero issues with MSI matching suggested DRAM values (different memory kit), not so with ASUS.

I’m pretty sure that’s why I can’t tighten my RAM without boot errors. There must be some critical timing options I’m either missing or misunderstanding. Anyway, I think this motherboard is great for the price.

Just wish I didn’t waste so much time with a defective one initially.

I’m 100% happy with this motherboard, overall. The cons that I mentioned have easy workarounds, and other than those the motherboard is flawless. A couple things I’ve learned that could be helpful for others: -If you’re switching to 5th gen ryzen and you don’t have an older amd cpu (I came from intel) and you’re worried about a getting a motherboard with an incompatible bios, you should know that AMD will send you an old cpu to update it.

If you’re still missing a part and can’t boot your system to find out the bios version, the sticker on the motherboard has a number that will tell you the version it shipped with. The last four digits of the number tell you the version; in my case, 2607.

-Don’t worry too much about sticking with one brand of rgb. One of my reasons in picking this motherboard (not the main one or even close) was because I have an ASUS GPU and I wanted everything to sync.

I’ve found out about OpenRGB since then. It’s free, multi platform, and gives you full control over your rgb – way more than you can get from aura. I honestly think everyone should skip installing manufacturer rgb software and just get that instead, since it works with most things (keyboards, headphones, mbs, gpus, ram, controllers) and is way more lightweight.

-The board is fantastic to have for the price, the quality of the components tells me that ASUS takes pride with thier motherboards and why I went with them again. -The board is highly competitive for the price with other alternatives with 2.

5G ethernet and the board simply works. -One major thing to point out is that AMD APUs may not cooperate with Realtek audio drivers so please keep this in mind when purchasing AMD boards for specific scenarios.

Again, this is not the fault of ASUS or any board partner but something to consider when buying an AMD Ryzen processer with an APU. -This is not a con but a general observation. The motherboard has weirdly placed fan headers on the board so 3-pin/4-pin extension cables may be necessary when placing this board in a large case.

This is what I consider odd but not detrimental to system performance and it is entirely my fault for not planning things out when buying this board. -This is not a fault of ASUS or motherboard manufacturers but I think this would probably be decent feedback.

The top PCIe x16 slot on newer motherboards should be placed further down and further away from the CPU so that large air coolers do not impact GPU performance. I know it is not always possible due to motherboard design limitations but it helps to know that some customers care about these things and want to help companies improve their products.

This mainboard is an excellent performer. However, I only give it 4 stars because of clearance issues of the SSD riser. Trying to fit a GPU with any kind of backplate has some clearance issues. If you have a 3080/3090 or 6800XT/6900XT it will be VERY tight, and likely rest against the SSD riser.

If you have adequate cooling, you should have zero issues. ASUS’s cooling setup for the VRM keeps things pretty cool, of course you want to pair this up with a high-flow case to prevent components from getting heat-soaked.
