20 Best X Stiff Driver Shaft (2023 Updated)

I have tried literally dozens of high-end shafts and the Project X Hzrdus Smoke Black is the best! In my search for the ultimate shaft, I have even gone to the high-priced club fitting leaders and this shaft outperformed everything else they threw at me! On the course I am consistently hitting 80+% of the fairways and, when I do mis, it is not by much! The shaft is 10 to 15 yards longer than anything else I have tried.

This shaft says “low launch†but I find it to be more of a mid-launching shaft. I have it paired with a Callaway Rouge St driver set at 9. 5. My swing speed is 93 and I am playing a 5. 5 flex. I believe this shaft plays slightly stiffer than a normal 5.

5 flex. No shaft works for everyone, but for this price, you owe it to yourself to give it a try – for me, it was the best money I have spent on golf improvement!.

This is a good profile and a shame that Project X no longer produces it. Its basically a Black with a slightly softer tip. Its still no where near whippy or soft, and the more active tip is just barely there.

This is perfect for those who love the stable feel of the Black but want a slightly higher launch. The flex on these play about a 1/2 to a full step firmer. 5. 5 feels more stiff than MCA or GD’s S+, and 6.

0 is closer to X. This will also make a good fairway shaft for those who game the Black with their driver.

This shaft feels very close to the stock shaft at the tip. I expected it to feel more boardy. It does not. My grouping is much tighter, and if i have an error, a slight push. Releases very progressively.

Just slightly lower ball height. Cannot really tell difference in yardage yet. I have not played with my normal playing partner yet who is normally about 10 yards ahead of me. I feel i am longer. My playing partners have commented for the past several weeks how well I am hitting my driver.

It rarely costs me strokes.

Great shaft, great looks, wish it was just a few grams more. Second shaft I’ve purchased in the black, one for my fairway wood, one for driver. Third one on the way

I was already playing and happy with the Evenflow White 6. 5, but wanted to give this a try. I am very impressed with the similar smooth feel of the Evenflow along with a nicer kick through impact. It’s slightly higher launch without any added spin.

A really great shaft!.

This came as the original shaft on my Ping G410 driver. Overall, I hit it pretty well with good distance and accuracy. I probably only swung the club 150 times between the range and course play when it broke.

For what was supposed to be a decent shaft, I was not pleased with the durability.

I bought this a month ago and the tip came apart and the head of my driver came off. The head hit the cart path and scratched the new head of my Maverick Driver. It awas assembled at Golf Galaxy and it was not cheap.

I actually like the shaft but didn’t get to use it very long. I had it put together Dec 20th, I’m just a little disappointed.

I was skeptical at first of the authenticity and it being a real hand crafted shaft. Unfortunately it is not out of San Diego but these prototype shafts going through a more in depth process off the line line rather than the factory line shafts for the masses.

Plays well a little like for my taste but plays well through transition. Has a slightly dead feel to it but I think that is more to the bend profile than the quality of the shaft.

I’ve played 10 rounds with the H4 that replaced the same club from a different maker. The counter weighting along with the new shaft and head provide me with a solid strike, great feel, good trajectory, improved accuracy and 13 more yards.

I went back and got the 5 fairway and 3 fairway. The 5 provides the same results. The 3 provides nearly the same results. My scores have improved and it’s more fun to play and practice with these clubs.

XXIO grips are not easy to get. Substitutes for the counter weighted XXIO grips do not exist as far as I know. The fairway clubs came with plus size Winn grips. They are not the same and do not deliver the same results.

I was able to get XXIO plus size grips, thankfully.

Upon its great reputation over many aged or female golfers, XXIO12 Driver has been chosen for a Mother’s Day gift for my mom at her 70s without any hesitation. Believe the driver must be great as per its reputation.

I currently have a XXIO driver and 5 wood-11 series. I purchased a new XXIO-12 3 wood, and it’s by far the best wood in the bag. It lives up to XXIO’s information about hitting the sweet spot much more often.

It truly is an “almost” never miss club, truly remarkable. I would recommend this XXIO “12” series to anyone who is looking to improve their game. As with all XXIO products, ben lazy, and swing easy and let the club work for you!.

These shafts are the best. I use the V2 black in my driver and fairway woods. I bought this as a driver option for higher ball flight with the same stiffness abd torque. It’s perfect. These are the most consistent shafts on the market without sacrificing distance for the money.

Just what I needed to bring an old 3W to life! Easy to swing, launches and flies nicely, carries well. Great price, too.

This is a descendant of the original Aldila Green shaft which was arguably the first great graphite wood shaft over 30 years ago. Its lighter, and of course has progressed over time with modern shaft technology but it is still a fairly priced standard that if fit properly will deliver as well as any shaft on the market.

I’ve aged and my game has deteriorated since I bought my first green but I bought the NVS Orange in A flex, 45 grams and the result was perfect. Smooth load and perfect mid high flight. My SS is between 75 and 80 mph with a smooth transition.

took it out once. got 4 good drives out of it, the fifth drive sent the club head about 20 yards (at least the ball went 200+) – I did NOT hit the ground, all were clean drives. I was happy with the performance until the club head flew off – I had to finish the round driving with a 3 wood.

worse yet, Dick’s charged me to replace it! they were nice enough about it, gave me 50% off and no charge on the labor. All in all a disappointing experience.

I’m nearing 70 and slender in build. I’ve been playing regularly for about 5 years. Play a TM M5 10. 5 and got fitted for the weight positions. The Tiger position worked best for me. One weight center back, one weight fade.

Came with a Fujikura Atmos Orange 50 A-Flex. Kept losing left. Went to a Tensei Red 50 A-Flex which was straighter, but launched too high. The Aldila NVS Orange 55 A-Flex suits me well. Better feel, slight fade ball flight, not too high so I picked up some yards on the run out.

I have this shaft in a Cleveland TL310 driver. I love it’s properties-low torque, lightweight with a relatively high bend point. I have used many different custom shafts, my favorite (up until I hit this shaft,) for my game, was the Grafalloy Epic.

This is my new favorite shaft! This shaft lowered my ball flight- I now have a sort of knuckle-ball (less spin) mid flight trajectory with a lot of roll on my drives. I can launch the ball farther with a little more carry with my epic shaft but the RIP shaft produces so much more roll on the end of my drives I’m getting a longer combined distance.

My shot dispersion is much tighter due to this shaft. I highly recommend this product.

Good feel on downswing using a regular flex. The RIP design features compliment and support every swing speed from Senior to Extra Firm. Have used Phenom shafts on Drivers, FW’s and hybrids with good-to-great results.

Tried the Nasty Long just to see if there was any appreciable difference and the answer is yes. A subtle difference in the launch angle just as advertised. Very noticeable in wet weather.

The shaft, even if an older model, came brand new, and is a great fit for my Taylor Made M2 driver. Left it long, but theres always the option to shorten it later. Its light and the torque and stiffness seem just right for my swing speed around 105-110 mph.

The shaft on my Mavrik Calloway Driver snapped and I immediately took it to Golf Galaxy, I have always had superb service but this was a disaster. I was told that they had no Calloway Shafts but they could replace it with a similar one that should work fine.

Your people are extra nice so not the issue. Bottom line, this shaft resulted in about a 25 yard loss in distance, tried it out on launch monitor and saw this but could not believe it, tried it out at my own club and the same.

I would have never purchased this if I had known it would have been such a dramatic difference.

I purchased this shaft over a year ago and have had wonderful results with it. I have gained several yards with this new Grafalloy ProLaunch Red. 335 shaft. Christian put this shaft on for me replacing a TaylorMade factory shaft that was cracked.

Somehow my previous review rating only showed (one Star). that was wrong and I had no way to correct it!! This is a FIVE Star shaft!.

I replaced my driver and 3 hyb shafts with these I am in love! 3 hyb is a. 370 85g shaft, not the. 335 but still the same make-up. These shafts provide effortless power and excellent distance. I would easily recommend this to anywho who wants to make all driver, wood, or hybrid shaft the same for similar feel.

I quit golfing for 15 years because of frequent deployments. Started back recently with old clubs and found that I had lost what little abilities that I once had. After a few months of constant practice, decided to make some changes in equipment.

I bought a set of PXG 0211 irons with A-flex shafts and a gen 1 PXG Driver 0811LX with an Evenflow R-flex rated shaft and it was still only barely OK at best after adjustments of the drivers weights and dropping the 12* pitch to 10.

5*. After much research decided to try this shaft before trying another driver. I love the PXG irons but didnt have the same feelings for the driver. As I described it to my son, this shaft turned my PXG driver into a PXG golf rifle.

Almost 60 years old and went from a R-flex to an A-flex shaft after deciding my swing speed isnt going to get any faster over the coming years. As I stated above the driver came with an Evenflow Riptide CB 5.

5-R 50G shaft. I wanted to try this shaft because of this shafts A-flex rating, the weight of the shaft and high torque rating. All I can say is thatit works for me, its giving me hope that I can actually substantially improve my scoring on any course.

I never believed that a shaft could make this great of a difference in my swing, my game and my feelings toward my driver. !! It definitely curbed my affinity to occasionally monster slice, in fact all slices have disappeared.

It seems to hit mid range ball flight consistently as described and as advertised even with taking my driver back to the standard 12*. And added about 10 yards of carry consistently to my drives. I couldnt be happier with a purchase.

This is an incredible shaft for the skilled player at hand. It has great feel and response off the tee. it is a perfect mid-launch flight shaft and with 105 to 110 MPH swing speed you can expect to hit around 250 to 265 yards with center punch shots.

The shafts from adila are very nice and this particular one is a favorite of mine. I also have the shaft in two other clubs a 2 iron, and a 3 wood, and it is just incredible the difference a shaft can make in a golf shot.

I highly suggest trying it out if you ever thought of changing shafts to produce a low moderate ball flight and with a great feel and super performance during the swing impact. Good luck and good golfing to you.

Classic original version of the NV Green, low/mid launch, low spin. I bought the 85g weight for my 5 wood and have been enjoying the stability and tighter shot dispersion. I am a professional club fitter and play to a 1.

The Mitsubishi Tensei Blue is a very solid shaft that performs very well. I normally hit a stiff shaft but I ordered this one in Regular and it does just fine, no ballooning or hard snapper-roos to the left.

The tip is pretty stiff but the mid section has a very good kick to it and also has a very buttery feel to it, as again it has great control but also has a great feel. When you look at the shaft looks like it has four different sections to it, tip, lower mid, upper mid, and butt, and each one has it’s own purpose.

Bottom line to me this is one of the best shafts that Mitsubishi has ever made and for the price you cannot go wrong.

This shaft works well for my swing. I installed a regular flex due to my slower swing speed and age. There is no ballooning and the feel and accuracy is good. Much better for me than the Rogue Max.

Long if you square it up. Still getting used to it. Ive been gaming the project x HZRDUS black which is a high flex where the Tensei is mid flex

As mentioned in other reviews, shafts did not include stickers. Not a big deal for me since it was such a good deal on the 8 piece set. Shaft were stamped with correct info. They were a little heavier than specs mentioned.

Site listed 107g and actual weight was 114-117g. Overall, I am happy with the shafts and would recommend.

Tried out many different shafts wearing in late from graphite at 65 g to 115 g. The truth ramp or text 3105s fit my swing the best. Between the shafts and lessons I have added 15 yards each club.

I needed to replace a shaft on my 7 iron that I broke. This shaft feels and behaves very close to the original. I cannot tell a difference.

There’s literally no need to look for another driver. I’ve been playing Titleist drivers since the 90’s and I’m hitting the ball longer with this club than anything I’ve ever touched. I switched a few years ago to Callaway Epic Flash and Speed drivers due to the hype (they aren’t bad clubs, they just aren’t great.

really hot face right in the center), but I eventually went back to the TSi 3 and then the TSi 2 due to it matching my ball flight better. Watching the PGA players using the TSr the past few months I could not believe the distance they were getting.

I was finally able to get my hands on the TSr 2 and did some tests with it. here are my findings: 1> You need to go 1 degree down from whatever you currently play. TSi 9 degree and TSr 8 degree have the same launch angle.

The TSi launches higher with less spin (that’s where you see the distance) 2> Carry on the two clubs is nearly identical with identical swing speeds. At 106 mph, ball speed and carry with both clubs is identical on the launch monitor.

it’s the spin that really reduces. 3> Roll out after landing is upwards of 20 yards difference depending on course conditions (my home course is currently a little long on the fairway grass, so this may be a bigger difference when it dries out).

4> Off-Center hits are where there is a dramatic improvement. The TSi 2 is a GREAT club, but mishits will let you know they were mishits. the TSr 2 moves into that nearly-unmissable category. (I purposely hit a ball off the toe at 105 mph and only had 2 mph reduction in ball speed (151 vs 149) and it was still piped.

My main takeaway is that the club is so forgiving and launches so consistently, it gives you the confidence that you can really go at it and still be on the planet. The only thing this has really messed up for me is I’m now hitting my approach shots from places I’ve never been.

The TSR2 is great! It’s forgiving, fast, and makes the game easier. However, I came from a TSi2 and the sound and flight are so much different. I use my same shaft and surfefit settings and couldn’t believe the difference.

The flight of the TSR2 is much lower, but a little farther. I gained roughly 10 yards with the odd pure shot that was more. The TSi2 had a much higher flight that allowed for more of a shop shape. Again, both heads were spec’d the same.

Lastly, the sound. I will say I prefer the TSi2 sound. It was loud. It sounded like you crushed the ball with a big pop. The TSR2 offers more of a dead sound off the face. Not ping sounding(you know what I mean) but nothing like the TSi2 sound.

I hit numerous balls outside on the range over 2 days and came to this conclusion. Pros- TSR2 – longer, straighter. Cons – lower flight, the sound is much duller, doesn’t seem as workable.

Bought 2 in March, 2021 – 1 w/ Ladies Flex for my wife, 1 Senior Flex for me. Both 9. 5 Degree, both of us found the Titleist True Fit Hosel Setting Adjustment set at C worked the best for us – controls your trajectory and distance.

Really nice feature. Right out of the box I hit mine 230 yards direct center of fairway the first 2 holes, some other ahh shots, and a great round. We are both extremely pleased. A welcomed club to our bags.

This driver is absolutely stunning. It’s definitely the best looking driver I have ever used, and the ball speeds are very good. The club seems fairly forgiving for a player’s driver, and the aerodynamics of the club head seem slightly better than similar drivers for a hair better swing speed.

I didn’t find great success with the stock shafts, but after I put a ventus black in it my strikes have greatly improved.

Have played a few rounds with the TSR2 now, and have been extremely happy after switching from the G425 Max. Dispersion has been fantastic, and it’s definitely longer off the tee. I would recommend going through a fitting to find the right head and shaft for you.

Overall I would definitely recommend this club.
