20 Best Worms For Bearded Dragons (2023 Updated)

My rats never tried mealworms (fresh or dried) before these, and they certainly enjoy them! They hold the dried worm between their paws and nibble their way to the end with great enthusiasm. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the tendency to get quite a few pulverized worm bits and not as many larger, whole worms.

I think that probably can’t be helped, though, since they are very fragile, but it does mean that by the end of the bag I’m pouring crispy mealworm flakes into a bowl for them rather than handing them individual worms.

Another thing I didn’t expect is the smell (not awful, almost a spicy/savory/“roasted” odor) or the somewhat “greasy” feel. The ingredients say it’s just dehydrated mealworms so the slightly oily feeling must be from the worms themselves; otherwise I’d think there was a lightweight coating in the mix to prevent the worms from sticking together.

Those things are not huge issues, and the product is definitely one I will purchase again for my ratties. It’s an inexpensive, natural treat that my pets really love, so it gets a definite “YUMMY!” rat-ing from them!.

I bought for my tenrecs and hedgies thinking it’d be easier which is poor decision making on my part especially when I’ve seen warnings about the dryness causing choking but I was watching my tenrec eat the dry bugs and he started gagging.

It was only a second but that second in the moment was scary and felt more like ten. I’ve never seen any of my pets react that way to foods I’ve offered and no it wasn’t any sort of anointing lol. So fair warning my advice stick to kibble and bugs.

Live and if your really looking for the yums- gut loaded live bugs! Gut loaded meaning bugs fed carrots, apples, and potatoes.

My 18-year old son purchased one very small package of mealworms as a duck snack. Not being a savvy or sophisticated shopper he unwisely purchased a bag of these gourmet mealworms that must be farmed in some far-off exotic land.

After we learned what he paid for such a measly bag of mealworms ($15. 99 for 3. 75 oz bag) we reviewed his poor purchase decision with him and then decided to inform others of the value one gets from shopping at Petco.

Not sure if Petco’s pricing is all-around stratospheric, but don’t see the value in what one gets. AVOID.

My bearded dragon is 7 years old, and due to being busy I haven’t been able to put in much time into his diet. And I figured he was more on the lazy side due to his age. His normal diet was lettuce with fruits and vegetables from time to time with nutrient powder sprinkled on top.

Of course too because he’s stubborn I had to force feed him this kibble a bit because he didn’t find it to look appetizing (which I hate doing :(), but the next day after he had it for the first time his energy absolutely spiked.

Whenever he normally goes on the ground out of self interest, he doesn’t walk around or move around a lot. The most he would do is walk a couple inches and then find a place to sleep. But this time he had a random moment where he wanted out of his cage simply because he wanted to run around.

He was in a very happy mood, he ran across my room (which was a HUGE upgrade for him), anytime I put him back on my bed he immediately ran off to get back on the ground, he was absolutely enjoying himself and seeing that made me so incredibly happy.

I’m still feeding him fruits and lettuce as he uses that for a source of hydration and he LOVES raspberries, but I’m honestly keeping this food in his diet as long as possible because it’s amazing!.

I was really surprised that I received this product. I have a very handsome, 10 year old, leopard gecko named Stanley. He is very spoiled and I love to get new things for him. That is why I was pleasantly surprised to actually receive something for him.

As I mentioned previously, Stanley is very spoiled. He has a very strong personality and he wants what he wants, nothing less. This is especially true when it comes to his food. He will only eat superworms, no mealworms, no crickets, only superworms.

His food has to be alive and it just put up a fight (but if it runs too far away, he won’t chase it, he waits for me to bring it back to him). That being said, although I was pleasantly surprised to receive something for Stanley, I knew right away that he was not going to want anything to do with it.

I remained hopeful though and I placed a dish full of this Mazuri Diet in his tank. Time passed, and just as I feared, he did not touch it. Because of this, I am not able to leave a honest review of this product, which is why I am leaving 3 stars.

I think this product is a great idea and I definitely recommend that people try serving this to their less picky reptiles.

I received this free to try and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I was so excited to add a new protein source to my bearded dragon’s healthy diet and have a shelf stable all-in-one diet option.

My goal is for him to live a long healthy life and I know Mazuri is a brand I can count on for exotic pets like my bearded dragon Rex. The Bearded Dragon Diet has a specialized blend of nutrients like vitamin E and Omega-3’s and protein to help your beardie stay active and strong.

I like to soak it in a little water for extra hydration. I love that it has no artificial colors. I have been adding it to his salads which consist of a rotating mix of chopped fresh collard greens, dandelion greens, arugula and turnip or mustard greens.

I also add some julienne butternut squash, green and yellow squash. Rex loves the Mazuri on his salads. This is great to keep an extra bag or two on hand for emergencies as well if you are unable to get live food or do as I do and use it in addition to salads and live food.

Certainly the best price/pound for dried mealworms. My chickens love them. I’ve found several cockroach casings that appear to be dead. I checked online whether it’s okay for the chickens to eat them and it doesn’t seem to be a problem – just grosses me out.

Tired of running out of mealworms buying them in smaller sized packaging. Now the bluebirds, wrens, cardinals and blue jays are very happy to have a never ending supply. The quality is good and so far, no mold or moisture.

Got my order yesterday and the mealworms bag had a cut in it and some mealworms were in the box with ants in it. Please send me a new bag. My chickens are waiting. Very disappointed

It’s a pretty straightforward product, and I think the quality is good. The container is a nice size, as are the shrimp inside! I’m impressed by the size of the shrimp they include. Not teeny tiny shrimp, but ones with substance.

I used these shrimp for my crabs, and I crunch little bits of them up for my betta fish. I took a star off, though, because I wanted to take a pic of the ingredients list to show on here, and I couldn’t see one! I mean, I’m sure it’s because it’s only the one ingredient- shrimp- but I still think it should be on there.

I have a full grown Red Eared Slider that loves large shrimp. Flukers river shrimp has some of the largest shrimp of all I have tried so far. Unfortunately they are few with most of the container having small to very small shrimp.

My turtle ignores the small ones and they end up clogging the filters up so I have to sort the shrimp by size. This leaves me about a quarter of a bottle of large shrimp. If you have small turtles this product may be for you.

I received this product in exchange for an honest review. So here it is: These are a hit with the green cheek conures I own. The three of them began eating them right away, but only after my cat coerced me into opening the container.

He loves freeze dried meal worms, and even though this package arrived with the seal in tact, it is not air tight. He smelled the Fluker’s just sitting out on the couch with the Chewy Box. He tried his hardest to get it open, and left drool all over it.

I opened it and gave him some, the birds some, and placed it under the bird cage with the rest of their stuff. My mistake. My cat kept going back under the bird cage, trying to break into the Fluker’s.

He needed them. He smelled them. It was pretty adorably pathetic of him. For the record: I have freeze dried meal worms I got from the grocery store under the cage, except those came in a bag. a bag he destroyed.

so I keep them in a name brand storage container, and he can’t smell them. He knows what they sound like, so if I get out “the worms” he’ll come running. The Fluker’s are staying locked up in the pantry.

By comparison, these are larger and more golden that my previous product. I haven’t tried them myself, because I’m not feeling adventurous today.

I have given this to both my previous hamster and my current hamster, and both have enjoyed it! My previous hamster, Daisy, was a Syrian. She liked to take the cricket from me, bite it’s head off and toss the body! It was hilarious! She would eventually eat the rest of the cricket (or grasshopper).

She was an adult when I got her, so I don’t think she needed as much of the nutrition these provide (and she would only eat about 1 per week or less). My current hamster, Tucker, is a Chinese. He is still growing and he gobbles these up! Since he is young and growing, I give him these more frequently – about 1-2 every 2-3 days.

He seems to really enjoy them! I mostly got this mix for the crickets and grasshoppers. I have separate mealworms that I like better, so next time I think I’ll get just the crickets or grasshoppers. I would definitely recommend this mix for hamster parents, especially if you are just starting out.

Feeding for hamsters should be 1-2 bugs 2-3 times per week, less frequent for older hamsters. Hamsters do eat insects in the wild and they do require some animal protein in their diets, so this is a good treat option!.

Our yellow bellied slider, Tallulah Belle, loves this shrimp/meal worm/cricket mixture. She eats every single bite of food in her tankexcept for her first nine months when she struggled with the size of the crickets and almost always left behind their heads.

TB goes crazy kicking and splashing when she sees the Flukers jar being opened. But then again, she acts that way whenever I open any food container in front of her because shes an always-hungry eating machine.

For the first year of TBs life, we fed her turtle food sticks and Flukers Aquatic Turtle Medley every other day, supplemented with vegetation. Now that shes a little over a year and a half, her diet is vegetation-heavy and is supplemented 1-2 times weekly with Flukers Medley Treat (she eats the whole cricket nowadays) and Flukers Buffet Blend.

We always dust the Fluker food with calcium powder. Tallulah Belle would probably rate this food 4-5 stars. The reason for my three-star rating is the lack of quality control. The tidbits in Flukers Medley Treat are not quite evenly distributed: heavy on the meal worms & shrimp and a little too light on the crickets.

There are also inconsistencies regarding whole intact morsels. Here are my experiences with three 1. 5-oz jars purchased over the course of seven months: One time it was filled with mostly intact critters.

In another jar, the dust and debris caused by crushed critters was more noticeable but still an acceptable amount. Another time, the amount of dust & debris was unacceptable, making up about one fifth of the contents.

Ive included two comparison photos, one obviously showing when dust and debris was at its worst; both show the lack of crickets. All in all, our aquatic turtle loves this food, and knock on wood, I really hope I dont jinx it.

This is serious gourmet for my swamp monsters. I have to use some old tweezers because it’s so gross to touch. There are whole bugs and tiny whole shrimp and large pieces, my turtle and koi LOVE IT. They usually get shrimp pellets and some other ‘floating bits’ but they enjoy this so much.

It was meant as a treat but I find myself giving it to them at meal time because they get so active and excited. I highly recommend it.

Every day I prepare a truly beautiful little salad for my beardie with a nice and colorful assortment of fresh organic greens, veggies and a little fruit. Every day Im throwing out the beautiful little salad that he barely touched.

After reading the reviews, I thought these just might entice him to eat his salads. When I opened the jar, I was surprised at how tiny the little bites are. Whatever though. I guess the better to sprinkle around his salad.

Well, they didnt work. Ive even taken some larger pieces and offered him with tongs (all the good stuff is usually in the tongs) and nope. he gave a test lick and turned away. For those who these work for, Im very glad for you.

For me, it was a waste.

My tortoises love this product, and when I purchased in small quantities, it came in tiny cubes. I began ordering the 1-gallon bucket (bites) and the first one came in bites. It was amazing. I’ve ordered 5 since then, complained to Chewy, got replacements and it still comes in a solid brick of gelatin.

Chewy customer service is AMAZING and it’s not their fault – but something needs to be done because it’s not supposed to be a glob and it’s very hard to work with. I usually have to scoop out w/ a spoon and then crush with my hands – not fun.

I bought a beardie from a friend’s younger cousin and the beardie was in bad shape, underweight, wouldn’t eat, calcium deficiency, had the wrong bulbs, ECT. These work so much better than I could have imagined.

She begins eating almost immediately after she smells them. They were a key part to her rehabilitation. She loves them, I love that she loves them! 11/10 would recommend!!!.

My dragons crunch this up in the morning, like cereal. They seem to like it. It is very convenient for me to put that in their habitat on busy mornings, and then they’ll get a salad later (or maybe some crickets if they didn’t make a huge mess).

Anyway, it smells a little fruity too. I doubt I would feed them only ‘cereal’, I think they need more variety. But it would serve their requirements if nothing else was available. A week after a big hurricane, power was still out on the island.

This cereal was great because it didn’t require being refrigerated, or in our cooler. It is great to have on hand, but don’t expect dragons to favor it over their other food, or gobble it down the first time.

Dragons that are spoiled (like mine are) will pout like a toddler for a bit. But if they’re hungry, they’ll eat. It is good to get them used to a dry food, so they will be familiar with it when you need them to eat it.

I give them other foods later in the day, after they finish a little cereal first. They’re also bell-trained, so they know when food arrives.

what i like about this product is that it comes in a medium size container and comes with more pellets. i dont own an iguana but i do feed this reptile food to my feeder crickets and they love this stuff i always hear the crickets playing with the pellets and eating them.

repcal is far the best and it smells really good. its hard finding big containers of repcal food and im very happy that they sell this product on Home Essentials Direct prime. I will be buying this product again.

I’ve had my bearded dragon for a short time and she eats Fluker’s Buffet Blend normally, but I had a relative pick her up some food and the store did not have that brand on the shelf in North Little Rock, AR.

I tried transitioning her properly, and after she ate some of the food accidentally while trying to get a mealworm out of her bowl I thought she would start eating it as she did the Fluker’s. I was wrong.

Without mealworms in the bowl she will not touch this food and has gotten clever about getting around the puffs to get the worms. She has also started to spit them out now. Not only that, but her feces is full of dye from the few times she’s consumed it.

The green is especially vibrant.

I thought I’d give these little gems a try, well what a waste that was. I should have known because I’ve seen similar issues with other foods with freeze dried worms for my beardie. These “worms” are literally just dry exoskeletons.

There’s nothing to them. My leopard, “Ricky Lizardo,” likes to eat from the tongs and he will not eat these. If Ricky bites into one he will spit it out. There are worm crumbs everywhere. I’ve never seen a leopard react like this.

Completely and total waste of money. Do not recommend. Get your hiney out and buy real live mealworms! That’s what I’m going to have to keep doing.

My rats adore these nasty things. But this time the bag came crushed between bags of cat food. So now my rats get meal worm dust sprinkles in their salads. I’d submit a complaint, but that section doesn’t like working for me.

I used to give this to my bearded dragon when I didn’t have live insects on hand. It is a great product in general, but I wish they had a product line that was healthier. My beardie is quite overweight and the vet told me I need to remove all worms from his diet, even though he gets daily exercise (of course nothing like in the wild).

If you’re feeding an adult beardie, do not leave this food in the enclosure! It’s like leaving a pile of McDonalds in there.

You know the perfect chocolate chip cookie? Warm and gooey that you just can’t get enough of? This is my pups chocolate chip cookie. She absolutely love the breakfast-y flavors. I love the fact I can read the ingredients and find what I’m looking for, plus I love to see her treat smile.

This is a great cookie for your pup and I highly reccomend you give it a try, especially if your pup loves bacon.

We do our best to make sure even our pups treats are somewhat healthy which is why we give them these! They do tricks for them, sniff them out in enrichment toys and they listen well when they know we have these on us! These are larger and a little heavy on their stomachs so sometimes we break them in half!.

Blue buffalo is a great brand and my dog usually loves their food, but this treat is not worth it. It’s so dry! It looks and feels like cardboard. My dog does not like it nor does my housemates dog. Such a waste of money.

My bearded dragon tends to be a picky eater. Had started with juvenile mixed version, then as he got older guy the adult version. I noticed he would eat just the red crunchy parts and leave the cricket and worm parts.

Decided to get this since it was what he liked. He seems to enjoy crunching away in these. I had tried to get some moist, but he did not like those. I had tried a different brand before that has green, yellow, and a pinkish color of pellet like these, but he would never eat those.

There is something about these flukers ones he prefers.

The wild lizards outside love it. Highly recommend it for the critters outside. Good For other garden animals too. Reasonable price too. I thought my 50 words was up. I could have summed it up in just a few words.

There you have it. It’s an exceptional day for them eating these again. I put it out daily and come back to find it’s all been eaten.

My bearded dragon has been having these for years now. I got him when he was so tiny that he could wrap his legs around your pinkie finger. I’ve found that these are a good treat for my beardy. He is more into live food aka crickets and hornworms (only one when he gets a special treat).

I would recommend these to bearded dragon owners as a treat or in between live feedings. You can see how tiny he was when we got him (only a few weeks old) and the others are over the last few weeks.

He’s well over a foot long (with his tail) so he’s pretty spoiled!.

Honestly i tried these thinking they would be easier then feeding live worms. i was WRONG. Youd be better off finding a feeder bug breeder and buying from them. You can buy 500-100 superworms (for example) shipped to your house for 20 dollars.

And they live for WEEKs. So get a storage bin (cant climb plastic), leave the lid off, feed them carrots couple times a week and youd got feeders for weeks. This product last one day before molding. smelled horrible.

Sadly these worm thingies grow mold almost instantly once can has been opened. Chewy immediately sent replacement can when I notified them about the first can I ordered. Unfortunately the second can was the same.

Once can was opened in less than maybe a day & a halfs time fluffy white mold growing all over inside the can. Would NOT recommend unless intend to feed the entire can of worms to your pet in one full swoop :(.

Came as stated. Had to put into fridge once I opened. Lizard LOVES this food. Tried dried food and my lizard turns his “nose” up. He will eat it eventually but there is no joy.

It’s a food for bearded dragons! How would I be aware of it’s flavor and scent. Anyway; my 20+ year old dragon won’t eat it. I think the size of the product is the problem. It is minced so small (about 1/8″ cubes) that BeeDee just doesn’t recognize it as food and this girl can rip through two dozen large crickets without breaking a sweat.

Maybe you should advertise this item as for baby bearded dragons?!.

My beardie will not touch these. I even tried making sure he was hungry before putting in his aquarium and he still was having no part of them. I’m convinced he would starve before he ate these. They do have a different smell to them like overly ripened fruit.

If your beardie likes these then maybe but I experienced the same as many others and he hates them. Big NO from me.

Quick Bottom Line: My bearded dragon loved it! Perfect for a sometimes food! Remove the mealworms and replace with Fluker’s dried crickets. I wanted to have a food that was easy for others to feed my beardie while I was on vacation and this is perfect! It doesn’t need to be refrigerated and my sitters don’t need to mess with live insects.

In the past, my dragon has hated pellets and mash, but he loves this! Plus, there is a lot of variety for him to choose from if he is feeling picky. My only complaint is that it contains mealworms, which should be a rare treat, but I just took them all out and replaced them with Fluker’s freeze-dried gut-loaded crickets.

Also, it contains veggies that should only be fed to beardies sometimes, so I don’t recommend this for daily feeding. Nothing beats a fresh salad and live insects anyway. But for a quick, easy meal or a bit of variety, I will always keep this on hand!.

I like the ease and convenience of this food, especially as I’m not always able to find live feeders for my beardie. I tried it by itself a few times, along with some supers so he didn’t go hungry. He wouldn’t touch it.

I didn’t give it to him for a day or two, and tried again with his favorite veg this morning. He ate everything but the meal worms that are part of the mix. Since I didn’t count the mealies that went into his dish with the mix (no live food this time) he may have eaten some of them.

I’m very confident now of being able to offer him this as a complete meal if need be, or just as a special treat. I would definitely recommend this to other beardie owners.

My beardie is very hit or miss (almost always a miss) when it comes to eating her greens. She is obsessed with this stuff though. It should be no problem at all to slowly add fresh greens back into her diet, when using this as a topper.

I bought these on a whim 7 years ago for my bearded dragon while she was a juvenile. The pellets were definitely not her first choice, but she did eat them. I stopped offering these to her when she was around 2 years old.

Caligula is currently 8 years old and thriving.

It’s easy for the juvenile iguana to eat because of the size of the product, which is a good thing because I’ve bought a couple of commercial iguana food that was too big for my ig, whio is under a year old.

This product is just the right size for juveniles, and they’re more inclined to eat it if it’s been moistened by pouring a serving into a bowl, add just enough water to barely cover the food, allow to soak about 5 minutes or just a bit longer, drain the water and present to the ig.

Mine have always liked it better that way. The product and brand are both excellent at a fair price.

I have a 55 gallon freshwater aquarium which has been in continuous operation since July 4, 2009. It is heavily populated with Roseline Barbs,Tetras, a Brown Africian Knife fish, and assorted gouramis.

Since I started using this product ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels have dropped to zero detectable levels and remain there as long as the Nitra-Zorb is recharged according to the package. I recharge my pouch every week when I perform a 25% water change, then change the pouch after 2 months of use.

I have a very particular and picky Beardie who hasn’t been interested in eating any live insects for a while no matter what I’ve tried. I was beginning to worry that she was not getting enough protein in her diet and decided to give these a try along with the dubia roaches and grasshoppers.

She willing eats them and appears to love them all. I particularly love the ease of use and not having to take care of live insects is a bonus!.

A little pricey, but good quality food snack. I buy them often as snack for my beardie. He loves them. They also refrigerate well if he doesn’t eat them all in one sitting.

I was hesitant to buy these because I only feed live insects to my frog and I didnt think he would like them. That being said the worms were a great size and I’m happy I tried these for a good bug to switch with every once in a while.

The item is expensive. The desired small live meal worms are out of stock and have been for a long time. The hypocrisy is the item is listed at a SALE item at a SALE price BUT THJE ITEM IS OUT OF STOCK.

My order is usually filled and shipped almost immediately. My mealworms always arrive with only a couple of dead ones no matter the time of year. I do usually get the hot pack in the winter and the cold pack in the summer just in case.

Some times the worms are smaller than others, but I’m only feeding a couple of small lizards, so I keep the worms in a large plastic tub with some bedding and feed them veggies, and they grow nicely.

They usually last me a couple of months before I have to buy more. Much more cost efficient than buying a little tub of worms from one of the big box pet stores, that’s for sure, and the worms are healthier.

Disappointed with the quantity of worms. There’s simply no way this was anywhere near 1000 worms. I used to work at Petsmart/Petco selling worms to people. This was at best in the low 100s. I threw the newspaper ball that they came in to my chickens, walked down my deck and into the run with them and they were already down to the last 10.

Worms were mostly alive except for like 3 or 4 so that was a plus. Next time I might try the giants though to see if they come with more bang for the buck. – Michael N. [Response from Seller: Thank you for your review.
