20 Best Work Pants For Landscaping (2023 Updated)

I have been wearing Red Kap pants for 25-yrs and they have been great and last along time. I probable owned or gone thru 20-pair or more of their work pants during that time. Company I work for, I was in counter/inside sales, gave us new pants every other year.

I’m in process of replacing older, wore out with new ones sense I’m retied now and need some new ones. I wear them more as dress pants now. They look and feel better, at better price and last longer than more expenses name brand.

I like the style, deep front pockets. They wear so good and look so good, I wear them all time, even to Church.

Like a few others among the comments, I hoped these pants in the “Natural” fabric would work as a replacement for the long discontinued B-04 Double Front Painter Pants. They’re not. Part of my disappointment is my own fault: I didn’t notice that there was no hammer loop (good for rags) and no real tool pockets.

They just don’t seem designed for work. These are my frustrations: 1. The fabric is kind of stretchy, designed to flex with movement. But I don’t like exerting against fabric and prefer a looser fit.

Also the fabric in “Natural” is a bit translucent — when I wear dark color underwear it’s sort of visible through the fabric. 2. The double fronts are advertised as being compatible with knee pads, but it’s ridiculously difficult to insert them through the cleanout hole.

, and removing them is even worse. The Carhartt brand kneepads are designed to be left in the pants, which would mitigate the difficulty — but would also add $40 to the price of every pair of pants you want to set up.

3. I’ve already mentioned the lack of tool pockets/hammer loop, but the cell phone pocket is kind of small. Anything bigger than an iPhone 7/8 won’t fit. 4. I bought a LOT of Carhartt gear over the years and they were always the standard for work wear.

These days they’re leaning more and more towards leisure wear, and that’s OK if it’s where the market is, but at least step up the game on the workwear. When the B-04s disappeared I switched to some innovative pants with built in kneepad pockets and tool pockets on the front of the thighs.

That company was too small to compete and eventually folded — but the design was great. I guess it’s too much to hope for a return of the B-04 pants, but it would be nice to see Carhartt innovate a little: dedicated kneepad pockets, thoughtful placement of tool pockets and realistically sized cell phone pockets would be great.

Great all around pants. I have hiked, rock climbed and worn them out on the town. They are great for casual dress because of the more tapered leg and clean look. They look better than all the synthetic pants you can by at climbing stores for wearing around town.

They are as versatile as most other pants you’ll find at REI, but will never appear on those lists. Well kept secret at half the price of other pricey outdoor brands. They feel great from the start, but get even softer over time and hold up well.

They are a mid weight pant but the fit well so you aren’t dragging material. They also are noisy like synthetic nylon pants. In really hot weather they can be a little warm, but most of the year they are fantastic.

I wear a 33×32 and previous versions had a leg that was a little too skinny in the lower waist sizes, but Carhartt seems to have resolved that issue now and they are true straight leg not too skinny.

Most people probaly see these as work pants, but Carhartt should market these to the Outdoor crowd and add more colors like their relaxed line has. Can’t be happier with these. Don’t quit making them!.

Carhart has unfortunately not only gone woke but all their pants, any type are no longer made for an average American male. The length is ok but the patterns they use leaves VERY little material around the front of your hips, causing the pants to press against you.

This I type of error is common when companies outsource to places that do not understand or care that average build American men have more meat on their bones than say a Philippine male would. It isn’t meant to be an insult on Philippine people, it’s just absurd Carhart lost its standards for what used to be a slam dunk.

I’ve actually lost weight and new pants 2x larger than I bought years ago do not fit. The other pants were made to US male standards. I’ve noticed this with other companies as well where a shirt is sized properly except around the armpit…and is meant for skinny almost bone showing arms.

If you have any sort of athletic physique, stay away from Carhart, they won’t fit.

We found a single pair of these pants at a Tractor Supply store near us. My husband really liked the pants, the way they fit, the sturdy material & construction, and the storage pockets. I like the way they washed & the price.

My husband works for an electrical/power company, and needs sturdy work pants that also look professional – and these really fit the bill. We went back to get more, but the Tractor Supply stopped carrying them.

So I looked the numbers from the tag up on your website, and was just thrilled. You not only had my husband’s size available, but a range of colors to boot. So I’ve stocked him up with a total of 6 pairs, and when these wear out will be back for more.

These Dickies work pants aren’t nearly as good – in any way – as the (discontinued) Carhartt B290 double-knee work pants. The Carhartt’s have thicker fabric, deeper and stronger pockets, a cell-phone pocket that is more secure, a button closure versus that stupid ‘gripper’ on the Dickies, along with a longer zipper – just better in every single way.

But, they’re no longer available. For ten bucks, including shipping, the Dickies can’t be beat. But they are inferior – the price, and availability, is what makes them stand out.

I purchased Loose Fit Double Knee Work Pants, Color: Military Khaki (KH) and Relaxed Fit Straight Leg Double Knee, Color: Desert Khaki (DS). I have worn the Loose Fit for my work pants for 13 years and they have been awesome and extremely durable.

It was time to buy some more work pants so I bought both my “tried and true” Loose Fit and to experiment I bought the Relaxed Fit also. I must say, my new favorites are the Relaxed Fit. The 2 styles of pants are nearly identical, the only difference I noticed was where it sits on the waist.

The Relaxed Fit sits slightly lower and I mean slightly, but it does give it a different feel which I found more comfortable. Both pants are fairly baggy in the legs both have the side knee pocket on the right side (I’m not a fan of that pocket because when you crouch down you will crush whatever is in that pocket, so I simply don’t use it.

no big deal). The color listed on the 2 different pant styles are listed as different colors, but they are extremely close in color (The Desert Khaki (DS) is ever so slightly lighter in color than the Military Khaki (KH), but you need to be in good light to even tell the difference).

All in all they are both great work pants and I’ll continue to purchase them in the future.

I’ve tried the loose fit double knee, and I like them, but they do look kind of funny on me. The high rise and big leg opening make me look kind of short. I decided to try the relaxed fit, and I’m glad that I did because the fit is exactly the way I like them.

Roomy yet with a lower rise and good leg width. They also have the cell phone pocket which is something I’ve gotten so used to that I get confused when pants/shorts don’t have it. I definitely prefer the classic heavy material over the Flex, and I’m glad that these didn’t let me down, the fabric is the standard Dickies heavy twill.

My advice to Dickies would be to offer this pant in more colors and to offer a non double knee version in a range of colors. 5 out of 5 if more colors were available.

The fit is great. Modern cut and light weight material.

These pants are extremely comfortable and the flexibility/range of motion is superb. They are tough enough for medium duty use but I wouldn’t call them “work” pants. I put a small hole in the pocket of one pair on a screw sticking out of a wall the first time I wore them.

I think they would be perfectly suited for the range, ATV/horseback riding, general farm use, and most hunting scenarios (which are my intended purposes). I would NOT expect these to survive on a construction site or if you expect to encounter a lot of wild rose and blackberry brambles.

All that being said, I love these pants and would highly recommend them for their comfort and range of motion as long as the user is aware that they aren’t going to be as tough as heavy denim work pants.

I have a pair of these pants that I bought last year and they are excellent. Very comfy and not so warm that you can’t wear them inside or in the car. Since the old pants fit well, I ordered another pair this year in the same size and they were too small as some others have noted.

I had to go up a size but they’re still excellent pants and a great value at the price.

For the first time in my life, as an old guy, I’m warm in the house and outside. These are way better than long johns for keeping my legs and butt warm. Get a size bigger to allow for comfort and slight bit of shrinkage.

My son, who is a young guy, told me about these. And my wife got some for women, too.

My son has been living in these pants since they arrived! Really appreciates not having to wear thermals under his other pants. I bought 2 pair and as soon as we got them and realized how nice they are and were well made, I bought 2 more immediately.

The pants fit well. A bit warm if you are inside most of the time ( i work in kitchens). But i like the thickness and lay of the fabric. Some of the minor esthetics ( printed info in the pockets) have warn off in a few weeks.

But this dose not take away from the form and function of the pants. Good color hold so far, i can not see any fading yet. My concern after my last “tough pants” were the pocket edges, where i clip my knife.

These pants are holding up in far superior fashion. Would definitely buy again.

I rarely wright reviews unless the product is exceptional. I had high expectations for these pants and honestly these pants are beyond awesome. Super comfy, soft to the touch with a more streamline cut and tough as nails.

I use them for logging. Logging beats the heck out of you, your equipment and clothing. These pants stand up to the abuse I put them through with all day comfort. These pants are also super comfy to wear as every day wear or walking through the woods and tough enough to walk through the blackberry briars.

Love the pants, fit good and can move good in them. But my 1 problem is the 2 belt loops in the front are to close together for my normal sized belt. I own 4 pair of their regular pants and love them too.

They have the belt loops at the edge of the pockets, and they work great. Would be a 5 star review if they was the same as the regular pants, and I would buy even more if the was made that way. ( hint, hint to the design team!!).

While thinner than most jeans, the material seems durable. The pants are reinforced in numerous places, so I am confident they will last a while through hard use. They are longer than I expected. I have not washed them yet to know if they will shrink.

Interestingly, the back of the pant legs at the heel is reinforced, so the extra length may not be a problem. The cargo pockets have a flap that is closed with two snaps. I would have preferred hook-n-loop.

The zippered pockets behind the cargo pockets offer a more secure option if needed. The cargo pockets are huge. Overall I’m pleased with the pants. My only problem in the whole transaction was the 2 weeks it took FedEx to get them to me.

Weird, and there was no update of their tracker for most of the wait. Guess the pandemic is too much for them to handle.

I am a decorator so I buy whites and dark work trousers. I have bought two pairs and they both were of good quality material. The sizes are right size. if they don’t go any further in price they are great value.

My day is filled with all sorts of work. Lots of physical labor, also computer/desk work and work in the shop. I also attend meetings, drive a truck, car, tractor and 4×4. Yes, typical Alaskan. These pants are new to me, would that I had them years ago! I love them.

They are tough enough, thick enough, and still flex. So they are comfortable, loose so bending, picking up, hauling, tractor work, etc is great. Nifty tool pocket on the right to carry my small adjustable pliers (always handy) or trimming clippers for those errant wild roses or thistles.

I garden too. Curious that the three left and back belt loops have an extra small loop inside the regular loop. Not sure what they are for, googled and couldn’t find it even mentioned. Maybe for carabiners or such??? Oh, and my hobby is trains.

I own the Snowcat fleece lined canvas pants and wanted some unlined canvas pants with the same qualities, style and fit. These looked like they checked off all the boxes. A stretch canvas material sounded ideal.

In the listed photos, these appear to be a true straight fit, similar to the snowcat pants. I received these today and the material and colors are exactly as I had hoped. Identical to the snowcat. The crazy thing is, these are way baggier than the snowcat which have a fleece lining.

The snowcat are a true straight fit, not hugging or restrictive by any measure but not unstylish and baggy. These Capacitor pants are definitely a relaxed fit. Not at all what I expected. They will work well for some but they are not a straight fit in my opinion.

I’m 5’10”, 150lbs and ordered the 30×30. The waist fits fine but the legs are enormous and longer than the advertised 30 length. I’m unsure if these are supposed to shrink some in the wash but that’s not a chance I’m willing to take and be unable to return them.

The pants are comfortable and a stretch canvas as advertised but I honestly think they are more roomy than they are stretchy. They aren’t as stretchy as the snowcat canvas. There really isn’t a ton of stretch to be honest.

They just seem too baggy all over. There is zero curve to them from the waist down. My backside looks ridiculous as a result. Not a huge deal, just stating so others know how they are cut. They also bunch up on me below the knee.

All in all, they fit nothing like the pictures in the listing. They are much roomier. I’m not a big guy but I am athletic and have larger calf muscles. These are still too wide for me in the leg area.

I’m disappointed. Like I said, I wanted essentially an unlined version of the snowcat pants, but these are too poor of a cut. You can have super functional and still be stylish. The Snowcats were a homerun.

These Capacitors are going back. Positives – Seem durable. Plenty of room for movement. Color as advertised. Hand pockets are huge/deep (down to top of reinforced layer). Mountain Ops logo is cool. Pants seem fairly warm.

Cons – very roomy, relaxed and baggy. Outdated fit and unflattering. Fabric bunches up below knees/above ankles.

Pros: These pants are made of tough material that will stand up to wear yet with enough flex that even a snug fit is comfortable. The sizing for these pants is consistent with other Eddie Bauer pants, which helps with getting online ordering right.

They have a slim cut and look pretty much like they do in the catalogue. Cons: They are mostly suited to standing and walking. The waist rides so low in the back so squatting, kneeling, bending, and sitting may be problematic.

Pockets are few, small, and snug: one could carry a wallet and keys, but not much else, and not likely a cellphone. The padded thigh does not extend much beyond the knee so does not help with kneeling.

Having worn these for just a week so far, they’ve been phenomenal. Not sure how they’ll hold up long-term yet, but they did shrug off some sharp edges raking against them. Comfortable, good storage, and they look good too.

For me, these replaced a couple pairs of Duluth Trading Co Firehose Flex pants that served me well, but eventually wore out. My only complaints are that the Whitman doesn’t come in black, and they seemed to run a bit large.

I’m generally a 34W and ended up needing a 32W for a comfortable fit, especially with the stretchy fabric which is great.

After seeing the pictures of these pants I had confidence on purchasing these. After receiving them they material is way different then what I expected. I was hoping they would have more stiffness to them and not feel like I’m wearing athletic workout pants.

The bottoms are like bell bottoms and they run super big. For 120 dollars I was hoping for a tapered leg not 70’s bell bottoms. Pretty disappointed considering I have your boots and they are they actually really great.

First order was a pair of the Whitman, and a pair of the Martin, absolutely love them both! Both have exceeded my expectations so far. Loved them so much that after my first order, I turned around and ordered a pair in all the colors.

Just to add some versatility to my wardrobe, lol. Seriously though, in my opinion, well worth the price. Multiple folks on the job site have already been asking about them. Tempted to ask Brunt for some complimentary “swag” to pass around the job site!!!.

Who or what designed these pants?? The waiste is one size too small as listed (40 is actually 38) And the legs are like clown pants. Enough room for two of my legs in one leg. These have to be mistakes The material is nice but cannot take them seriously.

I’ve bought many things from Patagonia but these are so wrong. Seriously, who designed these ??.

These pants are absolutely amazing. I love the feel and the fit of the pants. They feel soft enough to be very comfortable but still thought enough to be the work pant. And the fit is great, I’m constantly squatting down at my work and the never feel like I’m squeezing my croch or butt.

And then when I stand back up they look nice and still fit very nice. But most importantly as a work pant, I can beat them up, and they still keep ticking. I’m constantly getting them covered in concert and dirt and dragging lumber across them, dusty boxes are constantly rubbing and abrasing them, but they come out of the wash time and time again looking new.

All the fabric is holding fine, and same with the stitching, belt loops, rivits. Being in Nor Cal, it can get pretty hot up here but the pants are definitely not the hottest pair I have had. They are just a great pants, no matter what.

A jack of all trades pair of pants, perfect for a master of no trade, but working in a verity of fields.

If your heavy duty reinforced everywhere work pants fell in love with your tool belts and pouches and had a baby, this is what it would be. Totally worth the money. These will certainly outlast the cheapo walmarts i normally burn through.

Best feature for me is the knee pad pockets. Now i always have some padding for my aging knees without having to strap on the uncomfortable hockey style ones. Size runs true.

I bought these for my so who works in HVAC, he likes having extra pockets to pack tools in so he doesn’t have to make multiple trips for tools underneath a house. He has a couple of Helly Hansen work pants that are similar but these are 1/2 the price.

The workmanship of these appear to be of the same caliber and quality and appear to be very durable. I’m very happy with my purchase and will be purchasing more.

These are great. I’m a 5’6″ cis woman with a 28″ waist and 38″ hips went with a 29 for a slouchy look, and these turned out roomier than I measured for, but I can still pull off and intentional slouchy thing, oversize style.

I’d have to go at least 2 sizes down if I felt I needed these to reveal any information about the shape of my ***. Noticing this isn’t a pre-shrunk canvas, so I think they will be just right after a hot wash.

Going on the measurements posted, the duck canvas pants seem to have a bit of a different cut than the twill, especially in the rise; these are fitting a bit more carhartty (like, midrise and slightly less tapered) than they do on the female models of the twill version.

These aren’t super heavy canvas, so that gives them a nice boyish boxy crispness because they aren’t pulling down their own weight. I love this slate blue too; plan to wear it a gigantic golden yellow tee.

One snag: the fly construction is a bit awkward. The shield isn’t lined up properly with the zipper and the contrasting white zipper fabric pokes out about 2mm at the top; seems to be a hazard of a weird design where the zipper fabric is sewn on the outside of the “right” side of the pants underneath the fly shield.

I’ll need someone to strongarm this jean button off and I think it’ll be okay once I snap a new one on a little further in.

A no nonsense pair of pants that are built tough and look good. Triple stitching on the outseam, heavy duty fabric that doesn’t feel crunchy or uncomfortable and made in the USA. LA Apparel were very accommodating in making sure I got the right fit.

I will always support a company that stands behind their product! Worth every penny!.

I am so pleased with the way these pantalones fit and feel. A great lightweight fabric with some give but no stretch and hug in the right places. They are clearly made very well and in the USA and I might even feel some love sew into them? I dunno,but I got the 33 waist, had to size down and was so glad that I did.

Might treat myself to the natural color once they are restocked.
