20 Best Work Pants For Construction (2023 Updated)

I’ve purchased these pants in the past and just ordered 3 more pairs. These hold up very well for my husband who is climbing and crawling in and under things to weld. The only issue we have is that the seems tend to fray and pull apart very easily especially in the crotch.

I wish they would do extra seam stitching on these because for the money that they cost and I have to hand sew to fix them after just a couple washes. If this didn’t happen often, they’d get 5 stars.

I work on a ranch in Northern North Dakota. Constant movement, occasional running (calves), working on equipment climbing grain bins, building this and that. Always dirty. I have two pair of these and am ordering more, they move well the fit is comfortable Love the waist.

I’m a good sized guy 5’10” 260lbs these pants work with me and do not bind. They hold up well with NO faults or tares. I go through a pair of jeans in a month if I’m lucky and these are far superior.

Barbed wire dosn’t even bother them. I love ’em!!.

Normally wear 36 x 34 pants and ordered 38 waist thinking it would give me a little extra room to wear long underwear. These things are tight tight tight. I ordered two pairs and I’m going to return the one I didn’t wear.

What is wrong with Carhartt? Don’t they realize real working men who may not be male models wear these? And these were supposed to be relaxed fit?.

I use these for lawn mowing, gutter cleaning and general yard work. In cooler campouts I’ll be using them as my over-pants. Outstanding heavy duty construction, excellent pockets, able to keep all my needed tools on my rather than in a bucket or scattered around the ground.

Great knife clip reinforcement on the right pocket to keep your EDC blade in your front pocket. No fading, wear from multiple washes. Highly recommended. They are thick cotton – rather warm in the summer – but I’d rather sweat than bleed.

These pants feel durable but aren’t too stiff, they have double material on the knees so they should hold up for a long time. These pants fit me really well, they’re not very baggy, but also not skinny jean style.

I love the stiff material on the corner of the front pockets because it’s easy to clip a knife or flashlight. There’s lots of pockets, but not a phone pocket where a lot of pants have it so that’s a little bit of a bummer.

Nice thing is with all the other pockets available it frees up my front pocket for my phone. I ordered a pair to see if I liked them, after wearing them once I ordered 3 more pairs so I had one of each color.

There’s differing opinions about the sizing on these pants in the reviews. i think this comes down to body type/shape. i typically fit between a small-medium or 6-10, depending on brand and time of year (i gain/loose depending upon season, living in the north with long winters).

for reference, i am 5’4”, muscular hourglass curvy frame, and typically weigh between 145-160. Natural waist is at 29”, hips between 41-44”depending upon time of the month. with a small waist, hips/booty and thick hard working thighs.

i’m the Carhartt leggings i wear a small (there’s a break in period with the waistband on those but a medium would be loose on the waist for me). i ordered these pants in a size 10 and the waistband was a real chore to get over the hips.

they were way too form fitting to be comfortable actually working (or even sitting in!). if you like your work pants baggy/loose fitting, i’d recommend sizing up a couple sizes, or just buying mens pants.

i homestead and have animals, large food gardens, hauling wheelbarrows around, shoveling, bending, kneeling and squatting in the gardens. i like my pants loose and unrestrictive (which is why i chose “loose fit”).

now, the material…. the first thing i noticed before i took it out of the plastic is how lightweight it is. i was very disappointed with how thin these are. they feel delicate, which is NOT what i’m looking for.

i was expecting the same heavyweight quality of my husbands pants. read descriptions carefully! i’ll be avoiding anything with “rugged flex” in the description and closely reading product info from now on, especially the fabric content.

i want 100% heavyweight duck cotton, none of this stretch garbage that is everywhere now. yuck! i have leggings for that, when i’m not working! PROS: the actual design of the pattern is fantastic! lots of pockets and loose in the right places.

i’d reorder in a size up if i liked the material. i ordered the dark brown and love the rich, beautiful color. i’ll be heading to the mens section for some REAL work pants (which is where i also get most of my hoodies since they’re actually heavyweight).

CARHARTT, please listen to us hardworking ladies who are telling you we want the same heavyweight options as the mens section! So many reviewers are saying the same thing across so many of these designs.

we want the exact same thing as the mens pants with only slight alterations to the patterns in the crotch/waist/hip area to be tailored more towards a woman’s body. i own more Carhartt gear from the mens section than the womens!.

Very comfortable material; appears to be well-made. I really appreciate the ample opening and extra deep watch pocket (additional front right pocket), because I do wear a pocket watch, and this pocket can be so small it’s non-functional on other styles of pants/jeans.

The right leg pocket will hold an iPhone; I suggest the designers widen the left one enough to also accommodate a phone; some working folks have to carry a personal and a work phone, and the lefties out there will love you for it.

There’s a little gapping in the waist at the back, however I do need the room in the butt and thigh for a comfortable fit. Fortunately, there are enough belt loops to fix this by wearing a belt. My only complaint is that the waist rides a little lower than is comfortable for me, and I find that without a belt, the pants do tend to slide too low in the back.

I also experience my belt buckle riding up over the top of the pants and poking me in the gut from time to time, and this could be remedied with a slightly higher waist design, or an additional belt loop in the front, close to the fly, where the buckle sits.

Writing a review here as it’s the closest product to what I had bought (the Crawford Double-Fronts). I bought these for forestry field work, I ordered the smallest size possible to get as close to my normal size.

At 2 short, the length was great, the legs fit great, but the waist was disproportionately large. I had to take in the waist by a great deal, and even after that I still have to wear a belt. Putting anything that had even a little bit of weight to it (hammer, DBH tape, flagging) made it feel like my belt was working extra hard to keep these pants up, which is not something you want to be dealing with on steep, ashy slopes.

Additionally, the material was not very durable. At the same time that I purchased these, I also got a pair of Dovetail Britt Utilities. I have taken both pairs through two field seasons, climbing, and day to day use; the Dovetails are the pair that have not given me holes- these Carhartts are threadbare in about 75% of the pants, and have been since about a year after I first got them.

Overall the fit, durability, and pocket depth were subpar, but the upside is that they’re very comfortable and allow for great range of movement.

i like the pants, the loose fit description is accurate. the legs are wide the whole way down, so if you have bird legs you may find the pants flapping a bit. i enjoy having that much room and not feeling strangled.

i’d say the waist size runs true, but the inseam is a size longer than listed; 34 is more like 36. that 36 length is what i wanted, so it worked out. i read a review with a complaint about the belt loops, which i can kind of understand.

the two front loops are somewhat widely spaced, which can lead to the belt feeling a bit loose there. the cargo pockets are a good size, though i wish they were slightly higher up the leg. the front pockets feel a bit shallow, and the material has a lot of frizz after several washes; we’ll see how they hold up.

overall, i’m happy with my purchase.

I’ve been buying Dickies pants and shirts for over 10 years now. These are the best choice for what I do in the shipyard. Comfortable, durable, lots of space in the pockets. I prefer the regular button on the front of these versus the metal T shaped button on other selections, as those frequently come unfastened or pinch when you do as much bending and climbing as I do.

The negatives I have with these pants though are as follows: – The quality of the stitching on the bottom of the cargo pockets is occasionally shoddy. I lose things through holes in those pockets often.

– The regular pockets should have double lining or heavier material at the bottom of them. Every single pair, I wind up with holes in them after about 8 months from the keys, bolts, change, and other stuff I stick in there and lose.

For “work” pants, this should be a standard feature. – The pants only come in 3 lengths. I’m that odd height that a LOT of American men are and no one really seems to want to address. 30″ inseams look like high waders, and 32″ inseams drag across the ground and get caught under my boot heel, causing the pants to fray.

I realize I COULD go to a seamstress and get them altered, but that would double the cost of each pair of pants. That’s ridiculous. A 31″ inseam should be an available option folks. – I’d really like one leg to have the long thin tool pockets like the mechanics pants do.

Two cargo pockets are great, but having one less cargo and one tool pocket leg, or a smaller cargo on the tool pocket leg, would give greater functionality. The material of these pants is much more comfortable than the rip-stop in the hot spaces of the ships I work on.

Overall, I will continue to stay loyal to Dickies and these pants until Dickies makes a better pair for my needs! Comfortable, hold up fairly well in the tough environment of the shipyard and the punishment that I dole out on them.

I am a girl. 5’9” and about 130lbs. Got these in 30×32. Smallest size available. The waist could be an inch smaller to fit better. However I still like the look. I decided to buy men’s because they are 100% cotton and I wanted the slouchy, big look.

Looks real good with a small fitting top. I got black as khaki was sold out. I really like the look and the pants are super comfortable. I definitely recommend!.

Ok, so i work in a very dirty and rustic field. I am constantly on my hand and knees servicing equipment in very dirty environments. I came across these while searching for possible replacements for my aging Duluth Alaskan hardgear Turnagain Standard fit cargo pants item 84323.

They are the best pants i have every purchased but they are not available anymore and haven’t been for 3 years. My current stock of them are still holding strong but will eventually degrade. So to the point I got one of each T1, T2 and T3 in black.

I do like these, but I have several issues with them. 1. ) They are not as stretch as the Alaskan Hard gear. For comparison the T1s are 85% nylon and 15% spandex (if i take a 2in amount of leg and stretch it, it stretches to 2.

5in). While the Alaskan turnagain are 89% nylon and 11% spandex (if i take a the same 2in amount of leg and stretch it, it stretches to 3in). 2. ) I got 38/34 which is my normal size and these are tight but not overly tight, but if i gain even a few pounds they will not fit.

I might have to do 40w to have some room. the Alaskan hard gear stretch and give a lot but stay firm to my body even without a belt. 3. ) PLEASE FIX THIS. The Zipper Fly. ok this one is almost a deal breaker.

the fly when unzipped is 4. 75in. i measured all my pants and they vary from 5. 5 to 6 in. 4. 75 is too darn short. It is a struggle unzipping and doing my business for sure and find that i need to unbuckle my belt and unbutton my pants to get the job done.

PLEASE FIX THIS. 4. ) The front pockets are abnormally high and hard to get into when sitting in car so i dont put anything i need to access in my front pockets so they are a waste. So they are the closest i have found that are in the range of the Alaskan Hard gear Turnagains.

even the basic Duluth Flexpeditions are no match for the Alaskan ( i own 2 pair of those too). So far i have worn them everyday and put them through their paces. So far only the T1s. It’s not cold enough for the T3s and just barley for the T2s.

I did use the T3s on the coldest day which was low 40s with cold high wind/drizzly day and i felt Zero wind or wetness on my legs. and was starting to sweat a bit after a 1. 5 mile walk with my (2) 110lb anatolian shepherds.

so the T3 will be good when it gets real cold up here in Northern Mich. and The T2s will be a good use on normal cold winter days. If they fix the zipper and possibly a bit more stretchy i’ll buy more but with what i have i will keep looking.

I do like the dedicated Phone pocket which fits my Z fold3 very firm and rarely falls out unless i am on the ground rolling around under machinery. the T1 are quite light and the T2 are a bit heavier and the T3 are quite thick and feel water repellent like with a slight rubbery feel (which might work well while outside doing snow removal) For the price they will be ok.

but if your a boardline 38-39 you mighty want to goto a 40. Because they do not give enough to fit a 39 waist comfortably.

I have to say I bought these not sure of what I would think. Absolutely love them. Not only are they comfortable but for the most part water beads up and rolls right off of them. But even more impressive for me.

I was involved in a tractor trailer accident. Glass shattered all over and around me. After being cut free I had to slide myself across the broken glass to get out the windshield of the truck. These pants not only didn’t get cut out torn at all but had no glass shards in them like the rest of my clothes.

To top it off no blood stains either. They had some mud on them but when I went to leave the hospital I literally took a wet wash rag and they cleaned right up. I wore them out the ED like they were brand new.

I have to give props where due and these pants def deserve the props. If you don’t own any yet go get some you’ll love them.

I had several pair of ripstop pants from another company, but they had discontinued them. I began shopping for more ripstop pants that DIDN’T have cargo pockets or slanted front pockets, which is fairly rare, when I eventually came upon these.

The jean cut style is great because it gives the pants a less formal look without the dorky look of cargo pockets. Slanted front pockets (common on ripstop pants) allow stuff to slide out much easier; the front pockets on these pants are straight which helps keep stuff in as I’m lying on my back working.

Many manufacturers cheap out on the material used to make the pockets, but the quality here is the best I’ve ever seen. The pockets are too deep, though. When I reach to the bottom of my pocket to get my keys, my coat cuff or my watch gets hung up on the lip of the pocket then I have to force my hand in to reach.

They are true to size and are a good fit. There seems to be a trend to make pants skinny like in the 80s, but these buck that trend. The color is perfect. Dark gray (obsidian: black mixed with blue) does the best job of hiding stains and dog hair.

I would prefer a higher ratio (70% – 80%) of polyester or nylon to (30% – 20%) cotton because I get wet a lot. Pants with a higher synthetic blend dry MUCH faster than pants with a higher cotton blend.

These pants are still top notch and easily earn 5 stars.

My husband is a DIYer, small farm owner, and car fixer upperer. He needed something comfortable that wasn’t track pants for working around the property, and constantly kneeling on concrete floors working on tractors and cars.

These pants do the trick. They have enough flex so that he doesn’t feel bereft about not being in track pants, but sturdy enough that he isn’t putting holes in them every five minutes. I thought the big R on the side of these pants might look a bit obnoxious, but we bought the pinstripe grey color and it’s hardly noticeable.

These pants fit my husband perfectly. This is the third pair we’ve purchased because he likes the fit and durability so much. At the time of this purchase we also bought the same pants in green. The green pants are the same size but are quite a bit baggier, not bad enough to return them but a visibly poor fit so there is a problem with consistency.

Too tight from ankles to above knees. Who designed these? Not someone who worked in them. Also not 100% cotton. The spandex or whatever it is makes them too hot. Did I mention they’re too tight through the legs? Try working in too hot too tight pants.

These are the most expensive work trousers I’ve ever brought so it was with a bit a hesitation before I pressed buy button but I’m glad I did, I’ve never got on with snickers or dickies and never found them that comfortable but these.

Wow. Straight away they were comfortable and I’ve ordered a second pair. Though I would add the sizes are strange, I’d normally be a 38 waist which is a c54 which I actually managed to try on but no way they’d fit so I ordered the next size at 39.

5 I think (c 56) but as it turned out I was sent c58 and as it turns out we’re a brilliant fit So I’d say be careful.

My husband really loves these pants. They fit well and look good. The fabric is stretchable so bending and reaching are easy. The fabric breathes well when doing heavy, sweaty work and there is plenty of pocket room for small tools and personal items.

So all in all a very well designed pair of pants.

The stretch in the pants is key, it prevents fatigue compared to lifting heavy , damp carhardts all day long. Exterior pocket are great especially if you are harnessed up. The wear so far has been great.

Once you try them you will never go back.

I ordered these as well as the “All Season Hemp Canvas” pant both in a size 6, Short. These fit a full size too big, I would exchange them but I like the fit of the straight legs and wouldn’t want them tighter – my thighs are 21 inches, so i’ll have to return.

I’m a vegetable farmer and move around all day so I really like the concept of the adjustable waist buckle, but ideally I’d want it to be buttons like the All Season pant for easier repair. these are work pants after all! And I really wish these were High Waisted, they are about 2.

5 inches away from there! I like a Higher Waist so that when i’m working I don’t have a waist band or a belt digging into my hips (is that just me? because everyone in workwear seems to design for a hip central fit).

But I do love the feel of the fabric, durable yet soft, and stretches in all the right places. Please use this fabric to make a higher waisted version!.

The pants look the same in person as they appear online. There were no surprises with the colour or texture of the fabric. I ordered both colours. The fit is as expected from the size chart. The fabric quality is stiff, not stretchy, and loosens up a bit with wear.

I have thick legs/knees and a comparatively smaller waist (W: 29″, H:40″) and the size 10T legs are roomy enough without being tight around the knees. I can crouch and kneel without the pants cutting in behind my knees.

There is a significant gap and a bit more bunching at the waist than I was hoping for. The cinch/buckle design keeps the waist tight enough that no belt is required, but I’ll have to deal with grit and pine needles dropping in through the waist gap.

I don’t think I could have sized down to get a smaller waist, as the 8 would likely have been too tight around my hips and bum. The back pockets are unique but functional. The pants look a touch bulky, but they are work pants after all.

I found the double front knee pockets to be too short when I was actually kneeled down. The dirt marks from kneeling fell at the bottom hem of the double front rendering the knee pad pockets a bit useless (still good for brush protection).

The Tall 34″ inseam is great with slight pooling. The cuffs don’t get caught on the tops of my boots when moving around. Overall I’m comfortable in these pants during a days work. I barely have to make any adjustments and don’t have to continually pull them up or down throughout the day.

As an electrician doing industrial and commercial work in NYC am writing this because I never want to see these pants disappear from the market or be reshaped. To all the ladies complaining about the fit and size please stop.

THESE ARE WORK PANTS I’ve been a 12s all my life and I purchased a 12s which fits perfectly. In the age of skinny slim jeans, I upsize a lot of pants because they fit everywhere except my hips, if you’re more flat it makes sense that you would have to downsize two sizes on a relaxed fitting pant.

So If you had to buy smaller sizes but they still FIT you, as in your butt fits in the pants and there are no gaps, it’s NOT a problem, it is the result of company actually measuring women and not mannequins for their fit test (seriously that’s how most company shape clothes).

I don’t want patagonia to downsize these pants because that means I can still buy size 14 for winter if I need to layer them up, like anyone that actually uses them for work will come winter time, cause we work outside.

And again THESE ARE WORK PANTS they should be catering to women doing hauling and heavy lifting not sitting in an office, 90% of women’s clothes do that already. Women in my line of work are underserved, and they develop quads, calves and glutes because it’s physically impossible to do the job being a yogi size 2.

I am so happy to have these pants after years of being a Patagonia jacket and bag consumer. I’ve historically settled for oversized cheap men’s pants for work, the practical and necessary pockets are a must, but it feels soooo nice to not look like a sack of potatoes anymore (for the record if you are flat, the women’s Carharts will work great for you).

The gap control in the back is great, also the waist sits in a comfortable position (not so high it digs into you when you bend). The material is amazing, super durable, breathable, yet they feel lighter than plain canvas.

If you’re old enough to remember that satisfaction of breaking in new jeans (back when denim was thick enough it lasted you a few years) you’re gonna love these. You’ll get that best friend feel after a week or two, they move really well too.

One of the reasons the material and fit are so important to me and in work is cause loose cloth are a hazard around power tools but stretch material will ignite into flames in a heartbeat, so I’m ecstatic to have these, will probably take them hiking and climbing too, they might be heavier but can take the beating (how about some hemp trail pants eh?) I do wish the pockets were a tiny bit bigger and a side mid knee sleeve for pencil or cell phones would be nice (they put in the men’s jeans version, would so love that for woman please, the jeans too).

I’m 5’5″ 30″ inseam 42″ hip 32″ waist sidebar: I only wish the work tops had taken in account the hips they obviously figured out we have. The shirts are long (as they should be for work) but too narrow for the hip and too wide for the waist.

These were a perfect purchase for this upcoming fall weather. Great sturdy material and at a great price. This is especially good for those shorter guys out there looking for a pair of cargo work pants that will fit them just right.

Coming from someone who’s 5’4 these will be my new go to’s this season.
