20 Best Work Pants For Carpenters (2023 Updated)

I wanted something besides my usual blue jeans for work, so I ordered 4 different styles of Dickies to try. Tall medium build, take a 34/34 size 80% of the time, but occasionally a 32/34. Dickies 34 inch waist was correct for me and consistent across all 4 styles.

Relaxed fit look terrible at my height, so I only tried regular, original, and a slim fit. This particular cut was the best fit for me. Even the very similar FLEX carpenter also “regular fit straight leg” version just fit a little off compared to these.

These move well without being too loose. Ordered more of this style, returned the other 3. Wish these came in more colors like the green!.

Lightweight and durable. They have good front pockets and stitching is holding up. These pants are not loose baggy leg pants. They fit tighter around the leg and seat. They do stretch when you bend. Im a truck driver and they are holding up so far.

I usually can wear the backside out of cheap blue jeans in about 2 months from sitting in the seat 12 hrs a day. I like the cut, more in line with todays style than big baggy carpenters. Im 34yr old 5’7″ 175lb with athletic build and wear a 32-30.

Fit is true to size. Ps if you edc you can get your normal waist. They have enough stretch for average singke stakk ✌.

I’ve always loved the traditional Dickies Duck Canvas Carpenter Jeans for years as durable, comfortable, no-nonsense work pants. I was intrigued when the new ones came in as Flex, but quickly disappointed.

Clearly this lighter fabric would not be as durable as the traditional. The 32×32’s measured accurately, but because of the lower waist, they were way too long. Re-ordered 32×30, barely long enough, but workable.

Off-the-shelf, they were comfy, but they shrunk considerably (in snugness) with the first wash and the waist seemed to drop further. With the Lycra, I felt like I was wearing tights or skinny jeans, and spent the day pulling them up.

As a working guy, I don’t want to be constantly conscious of my pants. The front two belt loops are way too far apart, so that the end of my belt could not be tucked which was a further distraction. I wear my phone on my belt, and with my old Dickies, my phone was perfectly placed.

But with the awkward spacing of these belt loops, my phone either blocked access to my front key pocket, or was too far back. I wore them once. Dickies’ policy is they can’t be returned once washed, so I gave both pair away.

$80 wasted.

I have been very impressed with the quality of these jeans, the thicker denim, the leather enforced pockets are perfect for tape measure protection. I was recently in a motorcycle accident. Went down on my right side.

Even though I broke multiple bones in my ankle and got major road rash on both arms, my Wrangler Riggs were torn from my hip top my knee with the waistband still intact. But I was really impressed that I only had a small patch of roadrash on my right knee.

As soon as I save up enough money I will buy these jeans again.

I have worn Riggs carpenter jeans for many years. Purchased 3 new pairs. Everything about them was as expected, except that a belt loop was missing from one pair. I suppose I can salvage a loop from a older pair and sew it in by hand.

Rating: 4 stars for each of two pairs; 1 star for the third pair; for an average of 3 stars, overall. I wish these jeans were offered in 29 inch length.

I really like the leather on the right pocket. Works great for my knife. The pocket on the left side works great for my iPhone. I have the hammer loops removed in that they get hung on my cabinet handles.

I like the deep pockets and the high quality material. They are the only pants that I have worn in the past 18 years. I wear the dark blue ones to church and other formal events.

Since TS stopped selling their CE Shmidt (why???) line of carpenters, I’ve been struggling to find moderately priced, good quality, khaki work pants in stock anywhere. I hate buying clothes online, but I saw a pair of these in a smaller size on clearance at TS took a chance.

Fit great! Very happy. A bit over priced in my opinion for the quality (why no 5th star), but I needed them for work. Had some issues with the ordering process. When I would select the size I needed, it would change to a different size when added to the cart.

Had to empty the cart and retry several times. So, just watch out for that.

These are very good jeans I have worn this style for 15 years. The only problem I have is it is just like all the other manufactures. You have to try each pair on and they are either not the same waist size or length.

Why can a pair of jeans 34wx32L not all be made the same from the same manufacture !!!!.

I use them for everyday wear I like the fit of carpenter jeans. These are the first Lee jeans I have purchased never wore them before. I like the quality of the denim and the fit very comfortable. will purchase more Lee Jeans in different styles.

The 100% cotton versions side carpenter pocket doesn’t fit most cell phones but the new 99% cotton 1% elastane might? Such as colors British Khaki and Rafter where Levi increased the leg pocket width slightly on the new Flex style and now fits my Note 9 in a Rebal case.

Comfortable loose fitting relaxed fit which I prefer. Levi also offers tapered leg now if that’s what you prefer. Read the title and product descriptions carefully amid all these changes occurring.

I bought these in all three jean colors for my husband to wear to work. He is a Verizon Technician it’s an extremely physical job. If you wear a 32 length then order the 30 length because the rise is extra long, which my husband LOVES!! These are his absolute favorite jeans ever!.

These aren’t Levis Red Tab Carpenter Jeans Thats what I thought i was buying They are made very well and i am keeping them but it should specify this in the Listing They are levi but a lower line That said shipping, service And Communication were top notch.

These pants are great they are tough , comfortable and the two small pockets on the side come in handy around the shop. I wear these all summer long and they are not any warmer than normal jeans that are not nearly as tough and they look great I am slowly replacing most of my jeans with these.

I’m a man that if I like something I hope it’s still in fashion because I want a replacement when I wear it out. These pants are a staple in my wardrobe. They are comfortable and durable, that’s why I keep buying them.

I use these for work , not as heavy as I usually wear but good product at a good price. And if I can win the sweepstakes I’ll stock up !!

Pros: No synthetic fibers, durable duck canvas. Cons: Tight fit for rated waist size. Front pockets are undersized, difficult to fit hand in when I have my EDC knife clipped to pocket or when sitting down.

Internal dimensions of pocket could be extended toward middle of pant for added room. Bought two pairs and the pocket in one had a large hole at lower stich line within a couple weeks. The zipper fly feels like it could be minimum 1/2″ longer to provide more room when used.

Design recommendations: Longer zip fly or even a button fly, riveted corners for the tool pockets and hammer loop, riveted belt loops. Reinforced front pockets (internally and at areas where tools could be clipped).

Integral suspender provisions.

Buyer beware!!! While all the basics that once made these carpenter jeans great still apply -i. e. fabric weight, triple-stitched seams, etc. , there are serious construction flaws and errors in the latest pairs purchased!!! To wit: all waistbands of most recent pairs have weave oriented along wrong bias resulting in waistbands which stretch out when placed under load (checkable in-store, and I SHOULD have checked them but it’s such a basic construction principle you don’t really think mistakes that would happen; grab two belt loops and pull -if the waistband stretches, put ’em back on the shelf and walk away), left leg of two pairs have something wrong with them which causes the seam to migrate to front of shin after roughly forty steps -and the absolutely best part of all of is that this doesn’t show up until after they’ve been washed once so, hey!! Guess what? Not returnable under Dickies warranty.

I don’t know what happened between the last pairs I bought and this latest batch but BUYER BEWARE. I’ll be checking every pair from here on out and if the waistband issue isn’t corrected, this latest batch my well be the last purchase of these jeans I’ll ever make.

I mean. maybe it’s just me, but when I buy a pair of jeans that’s supposed to have an advertised 34″ waist and the waistband **WHICH IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE STRETCHY AT ALL** stretches out to somewhere around 38″-40″, it’s off-putting to say the least.

You lost me, Dickies, and this is probably where we part ways forever.

Dickies duck pants are my absolute favorite. I’ve tried other brands but none compared. Until now. I prefer the sanded duck carpenters but apparently those are not available online and they are almost impossible to find in the wild.

So I tried these out. The material has changed, dramatically. They are thinner and cheaper feeling. The fit is good and the sizes are true but I am 100% sure these will not hold up to the kind of abuse my previous pairs have.

They feel more like dress pants than canvas work pants. It truly is a shame. If I wouldn’t have gotten them on sale I would have returned them.

Unfortunately, I am less than satisfied. The relaxed fit carpenter jeans sent to me were of low quality. One pocket opening/pocket is larger than the other, one leg is shorter than the other, and the denim is very light weight.

No where near the quality of Dickies jeans I purchase in a store but yet the same price. I will never order anything from Dickies online again & may never buy another Dickies product period. Currently that is the only brand of jeans and zip up hoodies I wear.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed! The online buying experience, however, was satisfying, effortless, & my jeans were promptly delivered. If not for that, the satisfaction rating would be a 1 or 0.

Obviously, when a pair of jeans is brand new is not the ideal time to review the product. So, I will review the last pair of identical jeans that I bought directly from Dickies. com. I really like the fit and the quality of the outer part of the jeans! I like the depth of the side pocket as it fits my Samsung S7 phone very well! This would give them 5 stars.

But, I was very disappointed when the front pockets both wore through before the rest of the garment and my stuff started falling through or my my hand started catching the top edge of the pocket on the way in to retrieve something.

The front pocket fabric just went to shreds! This brings the rating down to a barely 4 stars. I’m trying another pair of these Dickies because of the superior fit, but I found another brand that has significantly better front pocket construction.

Hopefully, these can be upgraded, even if only slightly! Maybe sew a double layer of fabric onto them? Hint, hint! The pockets should last as long as the rest of the garment, shouldn’t they? Go Dickies!.

Not the dickies I used to buy at Walmart despite web site description describing them as such. Ordered in the size I would always get previously. Were sized much smaller, when calling to voice my concerns with dickie customer service rep she became condescending that I would expect the jeans to be sized the same throughout the dickie product line.

Hate to say it but used to like dickies, not anymore there are other choices that I will look and buy now.

Finally, found new jeans they are like they use to make 30ish years ago. The material is a bit more heavy duty than typical denim jeans it seems. I also like the flame resistant (never know) and additional extra’s vs regular jeans.

The fit is spot on. Waist and length are right on the money. NOTE: I just hung dried them first wash, and will likely do the same the next 2-3 washes. I typically wear shorts, or sweats around the house, though these are so comfortable they are now part of my casual wear around the house.

I also work outside a bit. Lots of DIY solutions, and work such as lawn care, small engine and auto repair/maintenance, and even tending to livestock. These jeans are the perfect solution for me in these efforts.

I plan on ordering more soon so I have a solid supply of jeans for the future.

I work in heavy civil construction and my jeans take a beating. These jeans have been the only ones that fit comfortably and held up to the harsh work environment. I normally purchase new jeans once a year, buying 6 pairs at a time.

This doesn’t mean that last years jeans are all worn out, it just means several pairs of them have meet the end of their useful life. The pockets and seat never seem to wear out like they do on other brands.

Instead the lower thigh just above my knee wears thin then tears. I am constantly working with abrasive construction material against this area of my pants. I have tried many other brands and styles, most don’t last 6 months before they are destroyed.

I purchased 10 or 15 pairs of these on clearance over 20 years ago. I’m down to my last two pair and they are in pretty rough shape. I cannot say enough good things about these pants. I wear them basically everyday and I’ve been rotating them all these years to get the most out of them.

It’s time to make another investment. Another 10 pair would easily be enough to last me the rest of my life. That 1000 Denier pocket lining is absolute genius. Not one pair ever experienced a pocket failure.

The depth of the front pockets is also a huge plus. They’re so deep I’ve had to send a search party in them to find a missing part or small tool. 😁 By far the best denim jeans I’ve ever owned. Thank you Wrangler.

Pants are great, only complain is that the main button was pinned way to far out from the zipper seam. I wear an odd width and just because of the button placement these pants don’t fit. I had the button altered over.

I like the ruggedness of the fabric but it is quite a challenge to unbutton due to the nature of this fabric. Also I wish that Carhartt could also make casual wear.

My body and lifestyle requires me to wear loose fit. It’s hard enough FINDING loose fit. But when I not only pay the extra money for next day delivery, but also go up a whole size JUST to make sure they’ll fit, when I first put one on, I could barely lift my leg.

Hands barely fit in my pockets. The waist felt like it was either my actual size or almost smaller. Hardly any stretch in the material and the pants are tighter than even a straight fit would be. Returning all pairs as soon as I’m able.

I can’t tell you how Over The Moon I am that these are back!! These have been my Go To Jeans for Years!!! I’m not built for the athletic style jeans, or the jeans with the stretchy material. Now don’t get me wrong those are good jeans for some, just not me.

I have a lot more to love than most and I need a sturdy loose fit pair of jeans that I can rely on, no matter what I’m doing. And These Are Them!!! Heck I even bought a couple pair in Black to use as work pants.

Exactly what I was looking for; comfort, good fit, looks good and appears to be high quality and durable (only started wearing it recently. ) The problem with most all of Carhartt’s pants products is finding the right fit! They are VERY inconsistent; the same measurements on one pair is too tight/too loose or too long/too short.

(Online I received two pairs with the same inseam size which varied by over 2 inches!). Had to go to the store and try on MANY pairs to find the right fit. But, after doing so, I’m VERY pleased with my purchase.

I highly recommend Carhartt, but online is a REAL challenge (gotta’ go to the store). BTW, the people working at the store were VERY helpful.

bought these and another pair in denim. Same size, 30 in. inseam, and fit description. The inseam of these pants measure 29 in. The denim pants inseam measures at 30 1/2 in. The waist is also tighter than the denim pants.

Carharts explanation is that they are two different materials as if canvas and denim measure differently. Customer service was no help but after a little complaining the nice young lady said she would email to me a free return shipping lable, which was provided with the delivery anyway , and 10 percent off my next purchase.

Neither have showed up. Carhart , I want to love you but you are going the way of the rest of em’.

Fits good, even though we have our tailor alter the length so it fits better over boots and foot wear. Wears well, comfortable. Durable, no doubt, even to the time the cuffs get frayed. Design: Outstanding features, pocket length, loops, cell phone slot.

These Rasco FR pants are actually the best, comfortable, light and stylish. I have been wearing these same pants for 10years or more now, they stand the test of time. The only draw back that I am enduring, is this Rasco pant seems to be getting harder and harder to find in different colors.

While most FR pants cost between $60. 00 and $100 plus; these were a bargain at $38. The $5 flat rate shipping was a deal as well with most competitors charging at least $13 to $60 for shipping alone.

The pants fit great. A little long on the length. I ordered 32 × 32. I would say the length is more like 34. No prob with boots. Just font be in a hurry for delivery. It took 2 weeks due to the cheap shipping.

I bought these and the relaxed fit flannel lined offered by Dickies this, year both in 38 waist. These were too tight, almost couldn’t button them, however I think they (the regular fit) would fit me better than the relaxed ones if they were a size bigger.

The black ones are really nice and I may try bigger ones. The relaxed ones buttoned easily but I could slip them off without unbuttoning, need a belt for sure if you are a man of little butt. Bigger butt, get the relaxed, smaller butt get the regular but order them big!.

Bought these to wear for cold weather motorcycle riding. Worn them 2x times in below 40° weather so far; they work perfectly. In colder weather, only need long johns under the pants to keep warm. Pants are very well made and I highly recommend.

I liked the first pair I ordered, they fit pretty good so I ordered a second pair in a different color same size and they fit completely different. They were about an inch longer and the legs were more of a relaxed loose fit than a regular fit.

I just received these pants today. I was delighted to find that there are 7 belt loops, not the five shown in the pictures! The extra loops keep the pants right were they’re supposed to be when you are wearing a belt, which I do.

This is my first pair of Dickies pants (or anything for that matter). I tried another big-name brand but they fit terribly. too small in the waist and giant everywhere else. I sent them back. I decided to try Dickies work pants and see how they fit.

Keep replacing my jeans with more jeans that only last a year anymore. Wanted something that will last the carpentry, horseback riding, gardening and hiking I do, not to mention wearing for fashion too.

These can handle it all and keep my butt covered and looking fantastic. The price is affordable for my frugal tastes too. The only reason no 5 stars is because the waist is too loose and I was worried it may be too tight.

I’m an athletic build size 8. The purchased size 8 is great in fit and length but the waist band is still so loose I must wear I belt, which I find extremely uncomfortable. Nevertheless, love these and already have a second pair in another color.

I grew up an inverted triangle shape and have morphed into an elegant apple shape in my 50’s. Finding pants to fit has been a struggle for my whole life. It feels they are always made to fit pears, hourglass or straight figures.

I read the reviews and thought these might just be the pants that work for me. I will LIVE in these babies. Quality is top-notch. They are so comfortable and fit perfect. I have slender hips, thighs and legs and not much in the rear.

My waist is about same width as my hips. These are amazing!!! I am now a customer for life. There are so many of us who need these! Long live the apples.

They’re the classic Carhartts — thick canvas, loose-fitting, mid-to-high-waisted, and with all the pockets you could dream of. Only two issues: 1. They only have 5 belt loops. (Two at the front, two at the side, and one at the back.

) It really needs two more loops at the back — when pants sag, that’s where they sag. I’m sure it would only cost 75 cents more per pair for this improvement. 2. Why doesn’t Carhartt make a suitable version of these for women? I’ve tried Carhartt’s “women’s” version of these pants and a few others; they’re low-rise, made of thinner canvas, and aren’t truly loose-fit.

Carhartt: please just make these exact pants with a more pronounced wait-to-hip ratio. No smaller pockets, no different fabric — just like this, with one slight difference. Your women customers would thank you.

In the meantime, I’m taking these to a tailor to take in the waistband.

Honestly…not a fan! Ordered my normal size for waist and inseam. Inseam was correct but waist was tighter than I anticipated. I was expecting a little stretch but didn’t get it. The construction themselves was very uncomfortable.

The crotch was not all that roomy and hindered movement. I initially thought it was due to the pants being brand new and the fabric being stiff but multiple hard labor shifts and washes and still just as uncomfortable as out of the bag new.

I had high hopes because while the pants from Duluth are absolutely superb, they are pricey, so I was hoping for similar quality at a better price point. My hopes were shattered rather quickly. In the interest of helping others who may be on the fence, I do not recommend these pants to anyone nor will I.

The advice would be, your mileage may vary but I will continue to spend the money as the more expensive option just seems to be a better fit.

The pants are nice, but the length was too long for a 30 inch. Being a lifetime fan of carhartt for 32 years. I have a large collection of carhartt clothing. These last duck double knee pants are nice but it seems you’ve changed the fabric from the original duck.

Most of your new pants are made from flex material which some may enjoy. But many more have relied on your original duck quality and durability. I’ve always been proud of my carhartt s it’s just disappointing to see the drop in some of you older designs.

My recent purchases were very nice and I wear them daily, i just don’t want you to totally lose you strong roots. Proudly made in USA thank you!.

Cream colored pants are amazing – quality, material, fit, everything! However, I would steer away from the brown. I would be giving 5 star if these were the same material. They’re more of a stretchy material, feels very cheap.

The stretch honestly makes them uncomfortable and fit different than the cream color.

Give em a cuff and they’re perfect for styling with sneakers. Cut with a full leg and double knee but not overly stiff like a Carhartt or Dickies. Honestly the perfect trouser for casually fashionable wear.

Wish they weren’t OOS so I could get ’em in every colour.

I love these pants. The quality feels great without feeling stiff. Very comfortable and soft with just enough give in the waist. I could wear them everyday.

Roomie pockets and thick fabric. Very comfortable and according to the label are 100% cotton so when the time comes their going to decompose without any plastic residue. The only cons are that I’m not a fan of stone wash but it’s a small compromise and the zipper fly is too short in all the group jeans and pants.

Pants fit great a little slimmer than i expected but all is good.

They were a little too small for my quads; however, they fit and looked really well in other places
