20 Best Work Clothes For Petites (2023 Updated)

I have a hard time with formalwear. I wear braces on both ankles, and I don’t always want to see them. It also limits the kind of shoes that are available. I also find that the vast majority of formal dresses cause me to look like an overstuffed sausage.

These are a great alternative. Dressy enough, not binding, lightweight. Everything I am looking for.

Very well made, with quality fabric and stitching. My only complaint is the fit. If one is truly a “Plus” size woman 5’6″ or over, the fit is perfect. If if one is shorter than this, the rise and the leg length will be too long.

Alex Evenings should really offer its clothing in a “Petite Plus” option! I liked everything about these dressy evening oants so much that I was willing to have a seamstress do the necessary alterations.

I bought these for my granddaughters wedding to go with a black velvet jacket with white lapels and it made such a stunning outfit. The pants run a little long (I’m 5’4) so be prepared to have them altered or wear heels.

They are very comfortable and I know that I’ll get a lot of use out of them pairing them with different tops. I also bought them in black!.

I ordered 4 identical pair of slacks in different colors. Two of them were perfect, but one apparently had been mismarked and one was of a totally different and very flimsy material. So, the average of my experience regrettably has to be 3 stars, even though half of the order was perfect.

i could not find dress pants to fit like my older pair that were too big since I lost weight. i took a chance on these because we couldn’t try on yet due to Covid. I was very pleased when they fit perfect.

i should have bought average length because when I sit down they go above my ankles but over all I am satisfied with them.

These pants medium weight, easy-care, and flatter my figure. They fit perfectly–I didn’t even have to shorten them. I hope Boscov’s will continue to carry them.

The dress was beautiful but fit me a little oddly. The shoulders (off-shoulder design) were on the tight/stiff side and not very comfortable. The dress was a bit difficult to walk in because there is no flap or slit in the back hem of the dress.

Looked good just standing, but walking was awkward. Otherwise the length worked and sizing seemed correct. I’m 5’10, 155, athletic build…and it hit me just below the knee. Returned it simply because portions of it were uncomfortable.

Beautiful dress, but I’m a little confused. The dress is described and shown in most of the pictures as having a tulip hem. But, when I received it, it has a straight hem. Looking back through the online pictures, the first three show a dress with the tulip hem, then the fourth shows a straight hem.

It does have an underskirt, but that’s more like a slip. Now I have to decide whether to keep it or return it. I really, really wanted the tulip hem.

I love this dress so much! It looks so classy and fits like a dream. It enhances my curves and gives a very desirable look. I wore it for a date night and received great compliments. It can be worn to work as well.

You can style it in so many ways. The fabric is excellent and feels so soft on your body. I will definitely buy more in a different color.

This dress should become a pattern for all my future dresses! I received many compliments wearing it. The fine cotton had stretch. I wore a size down from my usual 10 and it was still so comfortable.

The skirt skimmed my hips and was very slimming. The length was surprisingly flattering. I wore ankle boots and a matching dark brown leather belt both from Ralph Lauren.

This dress is very flattering, with the cape falling gracefully across one shoulder and front, with just the other shoulder draped. It looks pretty with the cape swung totally to the back, also! Color is a soft green, exactly as in photo.

The fabric is a little thinner than I like. Dress runs small; I had to exchange size 10 for a 12; RL return procedure is the best, easy and quick delivery.

This is a beautiful dress. It is made of very nice fabric that is seamless. I could not find any flaws. The stitching is neat and the lines are straight. It fits very nicely. I like that it helps to hide a little of the bulge, but still gives me a very fashionable look.

The 3/4 sleeves are very pretty. This have a nice flair to them that really adds to the dress. The dress is mid length so I feel very comfortable wearing it. The neckline is nice too so I am not divulging any of my assets.

The dress can also be used with a nice belt to give it a different look. This would be a great dress for a night on the town. It does wash nicely in the washer, but I hung dry it and it is just like new.

The material held up well and did not wrinkle. I am so thankful I don’t have to take an iron to it. Overall, I’m very pleased at the look, fit and quality of the dress.

“#SWEEPSTAKES” I purchased this dress for my high school reunion. I was so comfortable all evening, Loved the 3/4 length sleeve ,they are perfect. Love the length of the dress. This dress is very flattering ,classy,you can eat and dance all night and never have to adjust anything because it sits on your body perfectly.

Great, versatile dress! Flattering style. Denim fabric is soft and skirt flows without being too full. Armholes cut perfectly. Can dress up or down. Perfect length. Will wear all summer long and throw on a cardigan or jean jacket for spring and fall.

This is a beautiful dress in many ways. I love shirtwaists – very versatile for casual days at work or out and about. I love the cut, is a longer glam length. The color is gorgeous. The workmanship is high quality.

Unfortunately, it is going back. The linen fabric is WAY too heavy for warm weather, and that is when I would have expected to wear it.

I purchased this blazer some time ago at full price, lost weight, and had to give it away. I have been hunting for this identical blazer. Why? It is deep, midnight navy. The striped lining enables it to glide on.

The waist is tapered so you don’t look like a box. It is comfortable at corporate functions and the black metallic buttons give it a cool vibe with jeans. Very nice for the price!.

Beautifully cut jacket! I’m so happy to have found one that fits me so well. Its cut for a woman. The front doesn’t pull open at the bust and actually minimizes it when buttoned. The material is good quality with a slight stretch.

It’s a medium weight which could be used for all seasons with the right pieces. Highly recommend!!.

Needed blazers for business meetings and church. Too tight of fit. I want the option to button the blazer and I had to really suck it up. I typically wear size 6 petite with Alfani line, Tommy Bahama.

I needed to wear the black blazer so I had to alter the sleeve length. Too late to return all 3 blazers. oh well!.

These pants are low-cut hip-huggers made for people with no butt. These are not work pants — I tried them on, and when I leaned over, the pants showed off half of my butt. For those of us who have hips who work in the trades, we need functional pants that actually fit our bodies, not “stylish” pants.

I’m going back to “men’s” pants until something better comes along for folks with hips because at least I know what to expect from men’s pants, and their sizing chart makes actual sense.

I wear size 10 in all American sized pants and jeans. I ordered size 10 thinking they would probably be a comfortable, relaxed fit. Nope. They were like a size 14. I thought that maybe they would shrink some if I washed and dried them.

They did but, just a little. I wore them anyway to work today. I belted them up and wore a big t-shirt. I do like the way they are cut and the material is really good. White pants usually show panty lines.

these do not. Unfortunately, they became uncomfortably big quick as I worked, bending, picking up heavy wheels and working in 120 degrees. For the price and for the fact that I’m probably going to destroy them fairly quickly due to my job being rough, I’m going to order a size 6 next.

If 6 fits well, I’ll order a lot more. If not, I’ll try either a size 8 or go lower, depending on how they fit.

This skirt is exactly what I wanted. Wonderful material and the classic style that I love. Love the length and fit. Now I am getting a jacket to complete the suit.

I have worn Kasper suits for years but this skirt was WAY off in sizing. I have previously purchased size 8 suits and at times would take in the waist maybe an inch. I ordered a size 8 in this skirt and my husband and I had to laugh at its size.

The hips clear up to the waist had at least an extra 4 inches in the fabric. I doubt that even a 6 would have worked. Sizes seem to get bigger and bigger and totally without shape. I guess it is time to go back to making my own clothes as all garments seem to be following this same sizing now.

I was so excited when my skirt arrived. Tried it on and it’s falling completely off. I want to exchange for a smaller size. Can I return it to the store?

I was so excited to get this outfit delivered to me. I needed it for a formal event. The pants fit perfectly. However, when I tried on the top one sleeve was much longer than the other. Upon further observation I realized the one sleeve had been sewn in upside down and backwards! The seam was coming down the top of the arm.

I returned it to the store and was delighted to learn they had one in their store. Unfortunately, although the sleeves were put in correctly one was still significantly shorter than the other. I have had a number of R&M pieces over the years.

So disappointing. Who’s doing their quality control?.

purchased for outdoor October wedding in Oregon. Read the reviews and chose a size up. To my suprise it fit well but needs hemming. The outfit drapes nicely, and is attractive. The bling on the neckline and sheer sleeves are perfect to make it a bit more special.

The jacket and top are one piece. you cannot wear separate. For the price I would prefer separate pieces. All in all a good choice.

This is a beautiful outfit. Just right to wear to a family wedding. However, I left a trail of glitter wherever I walked, stood or sat. If someone stood next to me they had glitter on them as well. Could not hold my granddaughter because glitter was getting all over her.

Very embarrassing. No one would get next to me. Before wearing again I am washing to get rid of as much glitter possible and then will spray with hairspray. I would not buy again.

Good quality materials. Website helped me choose a size which fit comfortably when I tried it on. Delivery was prompt. I would pair this with fitted pants/jeans with dress shoes as in the picture.

Look ok not as I expected and material ok not that smooth not soft but I decided to keep it as I need a jacket for work I don’t want to wait any longer. This came in normal package nothing cover jacket same as my first ordered.

I would wear this with jeans or tailored black slacks. It’s a cute piece, but you’re planning to wear a sweater underneath it, I recommend going one size up.

I so wanted to like this dress, the blue ash print is lovely. Unfortunately, there is no lining, and from the waist-down, and it badly needs it. It’s almost like going bottom-less without it because the fabric is paper thin.

I returned it.

The print is gorgeous and it’s great quality but it is way oversized. I’m normally a large in most dresses. The top of the dress was ok but the bottom under the seam was very unflattering. I reordered a medium.

Hard to find 100% cotton dresses, and surprised to find this beautiful piece at BR Factory. This dress is flowy, breezy, and the fabric is stunning in the ash blue color. I would size down one size.

This dress is a classic and I am extremely pleased with it. I was a bit leery buying a dress online given that I find it difficult to find dresses that fit properly. The online advice is to buy a size smaller than you normally wear.

In my case, buying a size 8 – my normal size – was the right move. If I were 30 years younger and had the flat stomach of my youth, I’d have opted for a 6. Size 8 has enough fabric to hide the small tummy bulge and provides a favorable view from all angles.

The dress is very comfortable and will be perfect for dinners out. The dress arrived in picture-perfect condition, in a sturdy box, sheathed in plastic film and on a hanger. I highly recommend this beautiful dress.

Dress needs closure at top bodice. Dress is faux wrap at top and there is no closure to keep top from gaping open. Model is small at top so dress lays flat in pic. I am 34C bust, so the dress opens at top and shows chest.

Dress is difficult to get in and out of as there is only a short zipper on side by your rib cage. Needed help taking off dress to pull it straight up with arms in the air. The red is a nice color and skirt of dress flows great, not lined.

Buttons on sleeves are nice touch and good length. Haven’t decided whether I will keep dress.

I liked this dress a lot from the first time I saw it online, especially the color. When the dress arrived I was excited to try it on. The fit and size was good except for slight bunching of the zipper, I think the zipper is too thick for the fabric.

The thing I totally hate is the adjustable belt will not stay put once you adjust it to your waist. It moves and you are constantly adjusting it throughout the day. Who wants to do that every time they move.

The price point is decent but this dress will not get a lot of wear because of the two annoying issues I mentioned.

I chose dress this mainly for the colour and the fact that it was quite appropriate for a conference I am going to. The best part of £190, why not treat myself? When the bag arrived (with 2 sizes) each dress was slumped into a clear bag and both were incredibly creased.

If I’d paid £50 I would have accepted that but at that price, I foolishly expected more. Never bought Ralph Lauren before and I can now say I will never but again. It was now been washed and I hope the creases iron out ok.

It’s a beautiful dress. I love the fit and fabric. Sadly the color is very misrepresented. I needed a rusty, more orange red which is what the picture showed. It came and is a very, blue, beet red. As I am limited to a specific color palette it had to go back.

I do recommend the dress absolutely. Customer service has been excellent.

Dress came wrapped in plastic. Not a hanger in sight considering the price of the dress. It was creased. Ordered size 14. Perfect fit from waist down. Obviously don’t cater for the more chesty ladies.

Far too small up top. Then to make matters worse…I had to pay the return fee. Absolutely disgraceful that returns aren’t free.

This is THE perfect shirt dress! The length is just right, the material does need ironing but it won’t wrinkle throughout the day like cotton would, and its perfect for my upcoming late summer/ fall business trips.

Only critique is that when the sleeves are rolled down, the tab that would otherwise be holding the sleeves up has nowhere to go so it kind of floats loose. But is inside the sleeve so at least it is hidden for the most part.

Just purchased this dress and I love it! I especially love the length because it isn’t too short. The sleeves can be worn at full length or rolled up for the 3/4 length look. The material is on the thinner side and not a lined dress.

The belt is detachable so you can add your own different belt if you like. I think this dress runs small in the hips. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase.

The fabric is super flimsy so I’m not sure I’m going to keep it. Pros: figure flattering and hidden buttons. Cons: flimsy fabric, super long belt, and the wrists are tiny. I have tiny wrists – like every bracelet is too long, but these wrists are tight on me.

I have purchased several of the perfect shirts over the years, it’s always been my fav! But like many other brands they change the fit & fabric usually to save money. This is not the same shirt I have in my closet.

It’s stiff, scratchy and the sleeves fit so tight and the wrinkles are terrible! Sadly I will be returning and continue to look again for the perfect shirt.

I know many shirts just won’t accommodate a 34FFF, even with stretch. I ordered a large and could barely button it at all. Probably lovely and crisp on a thinner smaller-chested woman. The sleeves were a bit tight in my regular LP size.

It was almost too big in the shoulders, so with a narrow chest and sleeve, no way going up would help. I know it just didn’t fit me and the 4 stars are for the scratchy uncomfortable feel of the fabric.

This shirt is so great. I can dress it up and dress it down. I love wearing a sweater vest over it for a cute look. If you are bustier, I definitely recommend going a size or two up. I typically am a 4/6 in tops like these, however, I had to go all the way up to a ten because my bust was too large / made the buttons look awkward for a work setting.

I purchased this online in a size 6 but the employee was so kind to let me try on different sizes and exchange the size due to my bust. I probably wear this shirt twice a week. So soft, and definitely the “perfect shirt”.

I’ve been looking at this particular blouse/shirt for awhile. I read the reviews for general info as well as for sizing. So I’m like, “just do it. ” I’m glad I did. The overall sizing was perfect. I could’ve gone with my normal size 12 but I went up to a size 14 and I’m glad I did.

The overall fit was just right. Not to tight. Not to big. I have long arms and the sleeve length was perfect. !!! I fell in love!!! Perfect!! It’s the only way I would describe it. Please make it available in more colors.

I used to wear Brooks Brothers Petite Tailor Fitted Non-iron Dress Shirt. I was sad that Brroks Brothers apparently had discontinued their petite line, Out of desperation after Covid, I bought this shirt in white.

To my surprise, the shirt is well-made and fitted well. I have subsequently bought the black one also. Since they are made from 97% cotton and a bit of stretch, they are super comfortable and give a sharp professional look.

What an expertly crafted shirt!! Well done BR!!! I am 59 in height 127 pounds. This fits me perfectly. I ordered a 6 regular. I do have long arms and the shirt can have a cuff or not. Both ways, this shirt is long enough in arms.

Excellent fit. Very pleased with purchase. Is a bit see thru. so a camisole would be needed if wearing wo jacket.

I purchased this pants set for a wedding. I could only get it in black. It looked nice, was pretty comfortable, but I thought the beading on the tank was too heavy for the fabric. It didn’t lay nicely (I’m busty).

The beading was also kind of champagne color, looking more silver than gold. (I wanted to wear it with gold shoes and jewelry). I also thought it was kind of dark for the wedding, and may not have looked dressy enough.

I considered it, but found something else in navy. Sent back.

This dark charcoal outfit will be perfect for my daughter’s outdoor mountain wedding. Not only is it amazingly comfortable, it seems to be wrinkle free. That will certainly help with traveling. I normally wear a size 14, but the 12 fit very well.

The upper arms of the jacket are just a tiny bit snug, but will be perfectly fine. I did shake it really well outside to try to release some of the extra sparkles.
