20 Best Wool Socks For Men (2023 Updated)

It is very cold now in California (well for California) and I got these in store a few days ago. They are very soft but are not warm enough. I had plans to wear them with my boots but I also noticed that they move around as I wear them so I think in a boot they might slide down or bunch and become uncomfortable.

They also snag easily… just removing the tag with scissors caused the sock to untangle a bit. Yeas I understand that the fabric is delicate but I’m just sharing my experience and information. I do like that they are not tight and the color is nice.

A bit pricey for socks.

These are definitely more on the cozy/lounge type socks rather than the walking/hiking type. They are a very soft to the touch material like that « buttery » feel which are so very nice for lounging.

However, they catch on things very easily, and the threads will pull. It’s because of this I question how long they will hold up… Even parts of the packaging seem to have left permanent holes. All the more reason to only use them for the lounging.

Nice with slippers too since they are thin so your feet are not too hot.

A great feeling sock. Excellent quality as you would expect for this price point. Supports and reinforces as described. They are very comfortable, and warm. No need to double-up in my boots (except during extreme cold).

I do not recommend keeping them on to wear around the house as they begin to make my feet sweat after a couple hours, especially if wearing them with slippers. Just a nice reminder of their good thermal nature.

I bought these socks after looking everywhere for REAL wool socks to keep my feet warm 24/7 following chemotherapy treatments which left me with peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) in my feet. Wool is the only natural insulator that will continue to retain heat even when wet.

After I read a previous reviewer who, following chemotherapy, was pleased with his purchase of the Artic Wool Heavyweight Boot Sock to deal with his peripheral neuropathy, I decided to do the same (and bought 4 pairs).

I was not disappointed. These socks are great! Comfortably warm and well padded. This is not my first (or last) experience with the Carhartt product line. I proudly own and wear Carhartt boots, work shoes, shirts, jackets, gloves, hats & now socks.

These socks have way more wool than the typical “wool socks” sold at the local DIY Big Box stores. The socks are super thick and so up to the task for super cold weather. The main problem is that the feet tend to overheat easily and sweat.

So I find myself often needing to take the socks off to cool down. haha. Still when it’s super cold out and even inside – as it often is – these are the only socks that are up to the task that I’ve found.

Since they have some nylon then they remain tough enough for heavy use and washing also. Not as breathable as pure wool but much thicker than a typical hand-made wool sock. The sock stretches enough even after it shrinks in the drier so the size is good.

Okay, Carhartt has nailed it with these socks!! They must be made from yeti fur!!! First you notice the sheer thick quality wool, but they arnt so chunky that you end up having to wear your “big ass boots” to work.

Nope, they fit just perfect in your everyday work boot! The only way I can describe walking around in just the “yeti fur” Socks, is like stepping in powder fresh snow without the cold, or walking on a cloud (I’ve never done this but I’m imagining).

At the end of the day your old sucky wool socks will be all stretched out and clumping around your toes and arches; not the Carhartt Yeti Fur Socks!!!! They hold their damn position and statue! Thank you Carhartt!.

Ordered the “white/grey” colour choice which I thought was the white socks with grey toes/heel. This was not the case, and I ended up receiving a three pack of black, grey, and white socks. Not what I wanted at all.

I needed white socks for white shoes, not silly mix packs.

These socks are what I was looking for. The back sits a it higher than average low rise socks so they stay on much better. The front cut of the sock works very well with slip on shoes. 4 stars only because I have a pair of low rise socks that I found years ago and nothing quite compares to those, but these come close.

I like Under Armour no show socks in white and gray. Under Armour outlet doesn’t even carry them. Al’s is the only place I can find them. This time they just happened to be out of them. No problem, just ordered them fro Al’s online site.

Easy and quick. I’ve been shopping at Al’s in Orem since the day they opened!.

When I ordered these i didn’t realize that they’re super light weight and thin and don’t have much cushion but I thought I’d try them anyway instead of returning them and I’m so glad I kept them. Turns out I prefer a low cushion sock and with how thin they are they dry SO fast, I work outside and the coldest day we have had so far – I wore these paired with my smartwool sock liners and not only were my feet super warm and comfy but they didn’t even sweat which is HUGE.

Anyone who works outside in the cold knows that sweaty feet can be dangerous so when I got halfway through the day and realized my feet had stayed completely dry – my mind was blown. I’ll definitely be getting more socks in this weight especially for back packing due to how fast they dry.

I buy these socks for my adult children and spouses since they work outdoors on the farm and need warmth and layers. These socks are not so heavy that they can’t be layered with another pair of socks and still fit in their boots.

They also wash and dry nicely. The kids have come to expect them every year!.

I’ve been wearing these socks exclusively for many years. Love them. My feet get unbelievably cold and these help tremendously. I wear them every day for three seasons. I heartily recommend them to everyone who suffers from cold feet.

The other really great thing is that there is no band of elastic that goes around the top to make them overly tight around my legs. They fit well and do not sag. That’s been problem with other brands, especially with SmartWool socks (too tight at the top).

Two things to be aware of are: 1. They do shrink, so size up. 1 size larger should do it. I wear a ladies size 9/ 9. 5 shoe and buy the men’s large in these socks. They fit perfectly after shrinking.

I wash in cold water but I do put them in the dryer. 2. The thickness of the socks will make your regular shoes fit tightly. Since I wear these every day, I have had to resort to having two pairs of shoes in each style that I own.

My “winter” shoes are one half size larger than my summer shoes in the exact same style & brand to accommodate the thickness of these socks. This has made everything much more comfortable, my feet don’t feel squished, and it is totally worth it for me to do this.

Others may not feel the need to do this, but this is what works for me, so though I would share this info. The last thing I will add is a request to LL Bean to PLEASE bring back these socks in knee high length.

I have a few of these 12-in and 16 in ragg wool Bean socks- they are heavenly! The 16 inch are my favorites. Since they do shrink, they end up losing several inches in length but they work beautifully as knee highs and keep me toasty warm.

I keep saying I’m not going to buy any more 10-in and wait for the longer ones, especially the 3 packs on sale, but then I get tired of waiting and give in, buying the 10″ & adding leg warmers to cover the rest of my legs to my knee.

They are still good.

I bought these for my husband for work. He needs wool socks all year to help wick moisture away and regulate the temperature of his feet. He says they work in the winter when it’s cold and in the summer to cool his feet.

It’s been hard finding him wool socks that last through the winter and also be used in the summer. These ragg wools are super soft, comfortable, loose fitting but stay in place. This is his 3rd set and the only company that these socks last 2 years of continuous wearing.

I have tried numerous other high end companies and he barely makes it through the winter with those socks. So gladbtobhave found LL Bean for his socks. If your on the fence about spend this kind of money on socks, it’s worth it.

Wish they could last longer but like I said my husband lives in these socks for work and ro get 2 years is wonderful. Thank you for you great craftsmanship to clothing.

These are excellent socks. You simply can’t find a better ragg wool sock than the ones at LL Bean. I have 3 pair that I bought 25 years ago from LL Bean. Yes, I am still wearing them to bed at night.

Having them on my feet insures I will stay warm on even the coldest winter night. They were starting to show some wear (still have no holes in them though) so I decided to purchase some new ones. These are wonderful.

They are warm, well-made and nice-looking. If they last half as long as the pairs I purchased 25 years ago, I will be very pleased.

Average quality, I don’t expect these to last long but then again they weren’t expensive.

Supposed to be size 7-11. Im size 10 and these socks are far to tight.

This pair is one of several pairs of Heat Holders sock I’ve purchased in past month, both Original and LITE. So far, I am very satisfied with both weights, and certainly pleased with the style options, patterned and solids both.

To keep icy feet and lower leg warm I’ve put the HH (either weight) on top of over-the-knee socks for maximum warmth. The LITE alone suffices in less chilly setting. I’ll likely get a pair or two of UltraLITE for easier fit with shoes.

Knee-high or over-the-knee HH’s would be perfection!.

I can’t say enough how much I love Heat Holders products. It has been a learning curve for me to figure out how to best use each level of warmth in their socks. These are the thinnest socks they make.

Thin does not mean cheap or not warm. It means that they fit inside dress shoes to keep my feet warm when I’m out at the theater, a movie, or a restaurant. They are great socks.

My dear husband bought me several pairs in different warmth levels and colors for Christmas. I have Raynaud’s so my feet are ALWAYS cold!! My sister complained about cold feet this winter and for part of her B’day present, I KNEW I had to send her some.

Not a week later, she was sending them to her daughter! I find the 360 printing to not only be functional for more variety in designs but also a beautiful way to capture imagery in socks. This pattern is no different and the colors are rich, vibrant, and eye-catching.

This printing process allows variety in patterns without the seams and bulk of extra wool in the traditional weaving process, this sock in comparison is breathable and a good weight without adding bulk.

The only caveat was that I found the sock too tight, I have more athletic calves and this is an issue with most socks over typical crew height. That being said I could see the compression element of calf height socks being desirable in a ski boot, in comparison I only used mine in daily cold weather wear setting #SmartwoolLove.

I love the design and colors of this sock! Initially I wasn’t sure if I would like the design on my calf. I have larger calves, and sometimes designs would get distorted. No issues here though! I wore this pair of socks while lounging around the home, and hiking.

There’s no snow here in Wisconsin yet, so I haven’t been able to test them while snowboarding. The socks are soft against my skin, and give the right amount of cushion. I’m personally a fan of the targeted cushioning.

The cushion that sits on the shin isn’t noticeable at all when you wear it. The cushion by the toes and heel is great too. I didn’t have any irritation. It’s a super durable pair of socks, and I’d definitely would purchase another one!.

I absolutely love the ski print, one of my favorite designs by far. What is most important is the function of the sock. very nice! Just enough cushion at the bottom of your foot and at the shin. My ski boots normally press tightly against my skin but with this sock you don’t feel it.

We got some snow last week so I tried it with my hiking boots and discovered how comfortable the cushioning was in the foot. Definitely great for snow shoeing and skiing. The socks are well made and I know they’ll be durable because I own other pairs of skiing socks from Smartwool and I’ve had them well over three years.

I am happy with these socks, being an old time user of them. I just needed to buy some new ones, having worn out my old ones. They need to go through a couple of machine washes to snug up a little more for me, then they’re perfect.

Other than merino wool medium weight from Bombas for cool-cold, these Carhartts “are the Daddy” heavy socks containing sufficient wool to be warm in a colder environment. The only sock better than the aforementioned are my electric heated socks.

I hate cold toes, I repeat, I HATE COLD TOES. So with my sock arsenal I am good to go. Carhartt is the best!.

Comfort and warmth says it all about these socks, like no other sock I have ever bought. They caress your feet, rather than crush them like a boa-constrictor. Having warm feet is far more about blood circulation than insulation, but these socks also score high for insulation.

A slight downside. The wool fabric used is very fine and the weave complex to achieve their superb insulation quality, which means the socks are delicate, vulnerable to rough handling. But overall, if your feet are often cold, these are the socks you have always been looking for.

My feet always are damp from sweat. Wearing boots all day tends to make that happen. I have tried all manners of special wicking socks and wool combinations. When these socks arrived, they honestly did not look very impressive.

thought might as well try them anyway, I paid for them. I was absolutely blown away at the comfort of my feet all day long. You have to try these exact socks if you have struggled like I have to find a comfortable sock that actually keeps your Fredy from being soggy.

Okay if others may be remotely close to the way I think no one wants to spend a ton of money on SOCKS. That said after purchasing and experiencing other wanna be fine wool socks and getting toe holes after several uses I figured why not purchase a top of the line SMARTWOOL socks and actually save money not having to repurchase every several months.

Smartwool makes some of the best socks around. When the WI winter turned too cold to even want to exist, I thought, “wow, I need better socks”. Enter Smartwool. Warm without being too thick, long without being too tall, and striped without being too paisley.

They are the perfect sock to make me forget that my dog froze to the ground yesterday morning while doing his business.

I have 15-20 pair of these socks. Some I’ve worn for 2 years, some during last winter. I’ll be wearing them again this winter. Those folks who claim they got holes after a short time must have some other problem than the socks.

Maybe their shoes/boots are too tight. Maybe they wore the same socks over and over again and just wore them out. All I know is that every pair of my socks had been worn several times over the cold season with zero holes and zero loss of electricity.

My only issue is that because they are so wonderfully thick, they fill up my sock drawer. I buy these socks because they are warm, wick moisture nicely, are thick and prevent blisters and give me long wear.

I’ll be buying another bag or two two this winter.

I’m not even the outdoors type. However I could never find a pair of socks that kept my feet dry from sweat and warm for winter. My feet always get cold or always hot and sweaty. These changed that. I never complain about hot or cold feet especially wet feet.

These are amazing. Only complaint. They get holes in bottom fairly quickly. But the price point it well worth it. Not bad at all.

I began buying these several years ago for the kids, now everyone in the family wants them! I buy several pairs of these every year for the family and have had no complaints. Still own the original pair I bought way back when.

i have been purchasing these socks for my husband for about 4 years now. he enjoys them because they are wool and offer year-round comfort. he says they stay up on his leg and do not slip down throughout the day and he is on his feet 8 hours a day at work.

he also says they do not bind his leg from tightness. I order at least 7 pairs each time i order for a full week’s supply. For me, I love the fact I don’t have to match them up as they all have the same red thread band at the top which makes pairing them after each wash a cinch.

Since lands end started using less wool in there OTC dress socks I was looking for a new workhorse daily dress sock. I was ready to buy 5 pair of navy and 5 pair of charcoal. -Construction quality good for price point -Feel/weight heavier than a fine merino sock but good year round weight.

the heavier gauge will hold up longer. Not as rough as some heavier gauge wool socks. -Size is just wrong. I don’t understand why they don’t at least change the description. I wear a 12D in dress shoe and I had seen where people at the lower end of the Large size range complaining that they are too big.

But the top end being 12. 5 I figured I’d be fine. Nope they were huge and too loose through the foot even after a couple of washes. -Comfort was almost there great everywhere but the toe seam. Very thick seam and very rough.

They are basically unwearable. Maybe it’s where they are hitting on my toe (across knuckles) and it would be better in smaller size but this was the deal breaker. I can not understand the 4. 5 star reviews on these shoes.

After seeing these socks recommended by many different sources, I decided to give them a try. The quality is very nice. The socks are thick enough to withstand use without tearing apart, yet thin enough to remain comfortable in warmer weather.

The sharp seam on the big toe can be a bit bothersome as other reviews have mentioned; however, it is has not been much a problem for me, and it can be easily repositioned to a more comfortable spot.

The only problem I have is with the socks staying up. They hold up well for the most part, but do begin to fall down, perhaps because of my larger calves. I intend to purchase the over the calf socks as they extend further up the leg.

Overall, I am happy with this product, but I will be purchasing the longer version of them.

I am now on my third pack of these socks. I do not usually wear liner socks, but these are great to wear with pumps etc. They feel good quality and a nice thickness without being too clumpy inside footwear.

They stretch without losing their shape and wash nicely. Unlike a lot of other socks, these also do not dig into the ankle leaving ridges, really comfy. Would like to see them in fondant colours. The black is a true deep black and not wishy washy.

I bought the 6. 5/8 for a size 8 foot and they fit nicely, not overstretched.

I was surprised when these turned up. I wasn’t expecting them to be this kind of fabric. However, I wore a pair each day for a couple of days and they were comfy enough. But ever since then my feet have been burning.

After the weekend my feet felt ok and I thought I would wear another pair to work. As soon as I put them on my feet started burning again and haven’t stopped! It’s such a shame because the colours and fit are great.

Echoing other reviews regarding sizing. I’m a size 11 and ordered XL. The socks are so tight across the top of my foot they actually pinch. Personally, I don’t believe they simply “run small,” but are defective in their design or materials.

The fit and overall lack of stretch is very unusual. Ordered six pairs based on good reviews – all headed for the trash heap.

I bought my husband three pairs of these for Christmas, and on Christmas day they fit perfectly. Now, two months later, they have shrunk so badly he can’t even get them on! I wash exclusively in cold water, dry on low setting.

My husband has Parkinson’s, and it is difficult for him to dress anyway, & now these socks are impossible for him to get on. Huge disappointment.
