20 Best Wood Pellets For Stove (2023 Updated)

Purchased this to add a unique flavor to our BBQ creations. I was skeptical at first but this product was incredible. Made all our outdoor meals so much more tastier.

These pelllets burn amazing, very little ash and will get you to your 600f sear in a hurry. They burn hotter than the competitors pellets and smoke great too.

Bought these in the spring , cooked a pork roast and a loin .Absolutely unbelievable flavor .I would recommend these in a heart beat ,can`t say enough.

I got this as a Christmas present for my family and they love it. It’s been a fun process finding new flavors we enjoy and ones were not so fond of. It’s been a great spend of money getting a variety of wood chips instead of purchasing a single big bag and taking the chance of disliking them only to waste them.

The pellets are good and work great in my smoker my only problem is how big the bags are. each flavor is in a small bag so one will do a few burgers or a meal for two but for big smokes its just not enough but great for sampling different types of smokes for different foods like chicken fish ect.

ect. So if you are getting started in the pellet smoker it’s not a bad way to start.

So far I have only tried the applewood pellets, the wonderful scent filled the air. I love that!

I always use this brand of pellets in my smoker. I’ve tried a few different kinds (Hickory, Mesquite, Competition blend) of wood pellets by Pit Boss, and they all burn beautifully and don’t clog my auger like some other brands do due to lots of dust or non-wood additives.

I was considering trying Traeger pellets when Pit Boss brand wasn’t available one time, but learned Traeger were recently sued putting additives into their “100% wood” pellets, so that made me nervous.

I love ordering from and having Walmart products delivered, but please be aware that for some reason these 40 lb. bags of pellets seem to get delayed in their deliveries. I have had most of my pellet deliveries delayed a day or two and even have received last minute (day of delivery) notification that my bag of pellets was damaged and my purchase was being refunded.

I then had to reorder them and start the waiting process over again. I would just suggest that you don’t wait to the last minute to order these pellets from Walmart when you need them, just in case there are delivery issues.

Burns very well. Very nice scent when burning. You should really buy this product. Great for barbecue. Makes meat have very nice flavor

I used these pellets in my AMAZE-N Smoker tube to cold smoke several Boston Butt roasts and was well pleased. I had no problem lighting the pellets, unlike some brands I have tired in the past. After the pellets burn out, I finish the cooking in the oven.

I found these pellets imparted a good taste to the pork roasts and would recommend them. I have since tried these pellets on homemade bacon with similar positive results. Later this fall I look forward to using them to cold smoke cheese.

Look to be good quality pellets. I have not used them as my delivery was damaged so is being returned.

Have used GMG pellets for the last 5 years they have always been consistent in size and burn not always the strongest smoke but that is generally a thing with pellet grills. If needing more smoke I usually add some pellets to a smoke stick.

The pellets burned at a good temperature but the smoke flavour was way too strong. I seared steak’s on my bbq and then transferred to my Traeger pellet smoker for 15 minutes at 175 degrees. The smoke flavour should not have been this strong.

I have had my pellet grill for two years and use it all the time and I’ve never had results like this. I guess if your someone who likes intense smoke flavour, then these pellets will work great. I will use them only for high temperature cooking with less smoke.

The Pit Boss Hickory Pellets add a wonderful burst of flavor to any meal you may cook on their grill line. I use them almost every day in my Pro Series smoker. I highly recommend these pellets for your backyard smoker.

I’ve used the Maple blend, the Comp.blend, then bought this for some pork smoking. This burn is very sweet and aromatic. It is our favorite go-to for pork and chicken now. Will buy again.

I purchased a new, high quality pellet smoker in the spring and it came with 100 lbs of pellets. This gave me a chance to see how this smoker/grill/oven worked at different settings, temperatures and meats.

Well, just this month I started looking for an alternative pellet fuel that I could buy locally. I wanted to try different flavors as well. I did try to be careful not to get a punctured bag to avoid pellets that have taken on moisture, or a bag that had been mistreated on the store shelf to avoid crushed pellets.

Well, once I had the hopper clean and ready for just the new pelltets, I loaded it up and started the cook. Unfortunately I had some of the same problems I read about. The grill seemed to have more trouble keeping a consistent temp.

Even though I tried to be careful not to get a bag of crushed pellets there seemed to be an extremely large ratio of crushed to full sized pellets. Once the smoking was done and I tried to raise the temperature to get a sear on my chicken I had a very hard time getting to temperature up to 400 degrees or higher.

Plus the flame was not as large as I am used to and it barely reached to under surface of grates to help create the expected char. The taste was fine though. I really would like to give these pellets another try as I am a Kingsford charcoal diehard fan and only buy their charcoal.

Have always been in a dynamic “search” for the “best” wood pellets. Mostly had settled on “LJ” brand, as they are great quality and consistent. Having tried these Kingsford pellets, I may be “sold” on these.

They are high quality, burn excellently and make great flavor. A massive percentage of folks don’t understand “smoke science” and are misled in thinking that lots of white smoke is a good thing, when it’s absolutely not (research clean vs dirty smoke).

These make good smoke, which means flavor! Pellets are lower in moisture content vs natural wood pieces, but they can come close with a lot less “effort”. Have tried the classics, signatures, hickory and cherry.

I always thought there was some sort of esoteric mystique surrounding the art of smoking foods. It seemed like something beyond me, even though I consider myself a good cook. I am familiar with charcoal and gas grilling, and assumed that to try smoking foods myself, I’d have to buy an expensive smoker.

Wrong!! These pellets have me hooked!! I tried these out on charcoal, and will definitely try gas next, but let me tell you — it was so easy! I did buy myself an inexpensive pellet tube online to go with them (even though you can put the pellets directly on the coals as well).

It just seemed like the easiest way for me to ensure I wasn’t burning the pellets up too fast. I will try without the tube next time to see if the result differs. I filled the tube and set it on top of the lit coals.

Once the fire died down, and the pellets started smoking nicely, I put on my steak and corn. As I’ve stated, I am a smoking newbie, but wow, the flavor! Perfect, and the smoke ring was very evident on the steak.

And while there was a good amount of smoke coming off of the pellets, I didn’t feel like I was curating an inferno in my back yard, if you know what I mean. I liked that it produced a lot of smoke for my food without alarming the fire department two blocks over.

These pellets have definitely got me intrigued to try more. I used the hickory flavor this time, and will be picking up some of the others as soon as I can. Other more experience meat smokers can probably offer you a wealth of sophisticated thoughts on these pellets, but as a beginner, I say go for it — the pellets make backyard meat smoking accessible to everyone!.

Pellets won’t light!! I just had my electric start pellet stove serviced and cleaned and put a brand new bag of these pellets in the stove. The stove was doing what is was supposed to do, but the pellets would not ignite!! Emptied the hopper and put pellets in from ACE.

GUESS WHAT IT STARTED RUGHT UP! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MINEY ON THESE PELLETS!.

These wood pellets work great! They are a little less expensive than other bigger name brands, yet work the same. I use them in a homemade twig stove using a metal vegetable steamer. Excellent!

approx. $30 for twenty pounds. these are about twice as expensive as most name brand pellets. I can’t comment on the quality, but they are not cheap.

I bought this blend hoping for a return to the kind of smokiness I missed from my old wood-fire pit that my Traeger replaced. The “Signature Blend,” Apple, and Pecan woods that I’ve used so far just didn’t seem to have anything close to the old Smokey kick I’m used to, but this Bold Blend really came through! I noticed that I didn’t really detect the Rosemary in the smoke smell/flavor until I got the Traeger up to temps above 275, but I still loved the flavor I got at the lower smoking temps (190-225).

I’ll be buying this again soon!.

I’ve smoked for years before buying my GMG. The taste from the pellets are smooth and toasty. Works good with any meats or vegetables. I love coking bakes beans in cast iron right next to the meat. Tonight will be Brats & inions.

Premium blend will work for everything.

The first time I opted to try these, I just did simple burgers and hot dogs. When I first opened the bag, you could instantly smell the hickory and herbs. They smell great! I was also pleased that these were more of a wood chip than a charcoal, as I originally thought.

Immediately upon lighting, I noticed the nice, rich smelling smoke coming from the grill. The yard smelled soooo good. Everything cooked very well and had the nice wood smoked taste I love! I really couldn’t taste the herbs as much as I liked.

The second go with these, I used them on chicken breast, and I added more flavor boosters and less charcoal. Again, great smell, great smoke. The taste of the chicken was super! The smokey rich flavor packed with the herbs from the boosters was amazing, and my mouth waters just thinking about it! My advice is that if you are not getting the flavor you want, add a few more! I noticed they have another flavor in the store I’m excited to try.

We have been using Golden Fire Pellets for 3 years. I picked up a new pallet load Sept. 11, 2022. We are now into our second bag from that load and both bags have had an unacceptable amount of dust compared to Golden Fire Pellets over the last three years.

Since we pay more for Golden Fire Pellets we expect better quality. I hope our dust removal system keeps our feed auger from clogging.

We had been using Golden Fire for several years. However, we’ve noticed, more recently, that the pellet sizes vary, with some longer ones that have been causing some jamming and other issues. They do put out good heat; but the quality control on sizing appears to have slackened.

I have been burning these pellets for 3 years and they are by far the hottest and cleanest burning pellets I have used in the 10 years I have had my stove. I just wish the Gig Harbor location would take more care in how they store the bags.

This year the bags are either filthy dirty, covered in hay or both when they are loaded into my vehicle. Never been an issue until this year.

I find Cabela’s BBQ pellets to be of good quality at a good price. They do produce more ash than other pellets I have tried but they are not primarily Oak or Alder with minimal flavor wood like a lot of other brands.

I have been using these for several years now and I find the smell and the smoke flavor to be good. As for the ash, I vacuum my pellet smoker out after each use so it is not an issue for me.

I literally thought, how bad could these pellets be? Surely it must be a problem with everyone else’s smoker, they’re not using it right, etc. Wrong! These are by far the worst pellets I’ve used, which was such a letdown because I am such a big fan of Cabela brand pellets.

I don’t know if it’s a low density pellet or impurities, but this pellet never stops smoking and it drops heat constantly. It seems like as soon as the auger is done cycling, the heat drops from 250 back down to 210-215.

Seemed to be getting a ton of flame outs. I decided to stop my pork shoulder and make sure the fire pot was completely cleaned out. Started the process again, and same thing. Had to eject everything out and switch to Apple, which fortunately worked amazing as always! I would not recommend purchasing.

I switched to these from the Cookin Pellets PerfectMix as I was having too many temperature swings with the Cookin Pellets, with temperatures well below my setpoint most of the time. I have been monitoring my smoker all day long with my Thermoworks thermometer and probe and the temperature has been very stable and accurate to setpoint.

I mixed the Cabelas Hickory, Apple, and Cherry in equal portions for smoking Pork Shoulders today. These also produce substantially more smoke than the CookinPellets Perfect Mix. As for the individuals complaining of too much ash, an all fruit wood pellet with bark included will produce more ash than a pellet using debarked Oak or Alder as a base.

I have used Oak and Alder based products and while they burn consistent and hot, I have never been too pleased with the smoke they produce. I am really hoping these pellets work out but so far all seems good.
