way overpriced! actually started to send it back, but after a bad winter storm in the area wood was impossible to find, so I cancelled the return. Then wood was nearly impossible to burn! would stay lit for a minute or two and then fire would go out.

After about an hour and a ton of rekindling, finally got it going, but would ever buy again.

These logs are great! Love the burn time and the heat they emit. Perfect when you want to build a quick fire and easy to use. The package comes with fatwood, plus I like to use a small all natural pod starter as well.

Once lit, they burn great and make a perfect fire. I enjoy the all natural aspect of these logs, the low ash and smoke free features. They are packaged nicely and easy to carry. Will buy again.

We had underestimated how much wood we would need for our ski place. In an attempt to shore up our supply, we bought several packs of the Green Mountain Firewood. We were so impressed with how easy it was to start, how much more heat it gave off than the kiln dried wood we had, and how neatly it burned.

So many 1 stars and 5 stars. How can that be? It’s the all or nothing aspect of starting and keeping a fire going. Some can do it, some can’t. Why? Because too many people don’t know how to burn Bio Blocks.

They are a heavy, dense wood product made of compressed saw dust and nothing more. As such they don’t have any sharp edges or air pocket like real firewood has. They are the equivalent of a carved piece of hard wood as opposed to a rough split log.

They look easy to light because they’re small, but it takes lots of sustained high temperature heat directly on the blocks to get them lighted. If you think some rolled up papers and a few sticks are going to do it you’ll be unsuccessful.

Wax starter blocks or fat wood and lots of kindling are item your going to have to use. Once you get the block burning, and I mean really burning, you’ll understand the 5 star reviews. They’re long burning, very hot, and put out very little smoke.

If your not getting those results, we’ll, your not doing it right. It’s operator error, not an inferior product. So take others comments on how to start the blocks on fire and do what they say. If you’re an impatient type that want a quick and easy wax log fire, please don’t buy Bio Blocks!.

This new product is very functional and easy to use; just bend the little boards and break them to suit the user. Only negative that I can think of is the tendency to splinter, somewhat, causing a minor splinter hazard.

As long as you are careful when you break them, they work just fine.

It is without question good fatwood. I have a Vermont Casting stove and it works wonderfully. However, I prefer fatwood sticks rather than these flat pieces which I need to split.

The heavy steel construction will make this grate last for years. Cast iron grates usually crack when used in a hot fire. This grate will not crack. Also, this grate can be lowered by cutting the legs shorter for a custom fit into your stove or fireplace.

Fits perfect in our Wood burning stove that we use to heat our cabin in Montana! It keeps the wood burning longer since it gets better air flow now! It looks great too! Built real solid too.

Cost is double what it should be! Burns too fast! Not much oak in it. The birch and cherry are horrible for firewood. Stick with Beech – Oak – Hickory if you want maximum time burning. maximum heat and best flavor from foods.

I bought this fire wood at Walmart it’s very good burning wood for camp fires and using it in fire pits. The only problem is it burns really fast so it’s best to use this as a fire starter. Than put in regular wood to burn.

This wood also helps with keeping mosquitoes and nets away. It smokes a lot. You can also buy it on amazon.

Paid over $30 w/ship charges for a bundle of wood being sold at HEB for $7. I feel so stupid. The ship charge was hidden with all other items ship free.

They arrived on a Sunday and I put them to use that day. My first impression was they were a bit messy. The box does not have support for each individual piece so the cubes just bounce around and dust come off.

Several of the pieces are broken apart which isn’t a big deal but you need to grab a few chunks when starting a fire. They are a bit harder to light than other fire starters that I have used. Need to hold the lighter on them for about 10 seconds before the flame holds.

After that they are off and fire will be ready in 10 to 15 minutes. They burn pretty clean. There is a pile of ash from the wood dust inside the cubes. Nothing crazy but more than I expected. At first I thought the price was a bit high but it’s actually a better value than the other fire starters that I have used.

These end up being about 20 cents per fire. Others I have used are about 25 cents per fire. Overall, I would probably buy again. But 50 will last me a while for sure. I’m curious to see how these hold us over time.

I would like to see the effects of humidity overtime.

The small squares last the full stated twelve minutes and then some, burning very hot. Two items of note, they take extra time with the lighter getting them going versus cellophane wrapped products. Also, the square shape makes it easier to fall through the grill grate if you are not careful with placement and lighting.

A future enhancement could be to make them rectangular.

So my 1st issue is that this isn’t actually birch wood. It is maybe a ash or pine, but not birch. My 2nd is the box was only 10. 2lbs on 15-20. I decided to be generous and give this wood 3 stars as it did in fact burn.

But I cannot recommend this to anyone as the price to value is very poor and it was not as the item description described. Just my thoughts, AK.

I have a large fireplace so the wood I burn are large logs to accommodate size of fireplace and I was having a difficult time getting wood to catch being so large, I found that putting a few small pieces of wood/kindling then set one of the fire starters on top of that then large logs on top so fire starter in middle of that.

Use a long candle lighter to reach in and light fire starter works like a charm. My firewood is hickory which takes longer to catch and these fire starters get the job done. I will keep these on hand as they make easy work of fire starting.

The duraflame fatwood logs are fantastic. You will only need one or two per fire. They are sometimes difficult to find in the winter so I buy them in the spring and store them in steel ammo boxes, also bought at Walmart, and store them in my shed.

My shed is rather humid but since the ammo boxes are sealed it hasn’t been an issue. Having these mean I don’t have to worry about gathering or keeping kindling.

We put one of these in back in November in a fireplace where the old stove rusted out. Summary review We love it. It has a small firebox, so you need to learn how to start it well, but the upside is that it burns very efficiently.

We generally don’t burn more than 8 16 inch logs a day. It also looks very nice in the fireplace. More details all designs involve tradeoffs. We had an exisiting 8 inch insulated stainless steel flu.

One contractor insisted on needing to take it out and replace it with a 6 inch flu. I have a background in engineering (though this is not my area of expertise) so I can appreciate the pluses and minuses.

The 8 inch flu has almost twice the cross sectional area, so the energy required to move the whole column of cold air up and keep it drafing is higher than it would be for a 6 inch flu, so you have potentially a drafting problem.

Our building code allows a reducing cone for 8 to 6 inches, and frankly it has not been an issue. (If you have a very tall chimney, though, you need the opinion of an expert – here the chimney sweep is probably more help than a salesman.

) We consulted the local codes via our chimney sweep and had him install it. It was less than a two hour job. Much more of an issue is the size of the firebox. To start a fire you just don’t have the room to put cardboard, kindling and large logs in all at the same time.

So you need to use either short logs (8 -10 inches) in a T-pee or you need at least three longer pieces that are more finely split, so 2 inches max approximately, and lay them with lots of air space.

Leaving the door cracked slightly to allow lots of draft helps keep the heat up in the lighting phase. Once you have a bed of coals, it will start anything, and once a log or two are burning, you can close down the damper and you get a good deal of heat even when you don’t see roaring flames.

I waited to review this until I had used it for a little while. We bought this to replace an old smoke dragon we had in our living room. I have been heating primarily with wood since I was a young man so this is not my first rodeo with installing a wood stove.

This is small, 4 pieces of wood small. Not a deal breaker if you are heating a small room. Upon delivery we noticed the handle was missing. Not a big deal I thought, signed for it and figured I would contact amazon later and they would send me a new handle.

To my surprise they could not sent me a handle and I had to return the entire stove. I thought this was silly as the handle is less than $20. Seeing the stove weighs almost 300lbs this was not a realistic solution.

They later agreed and gave me a refund on a small portion of the purchase price. I then ordered a handle from U. S. Stove. After getting the liner installed and everything hooked up we started using the stove.

First issue I had was if I ran the fan on high it would blow smoke into the room. Double checking I everything hooked up corrdctly I noticed the flange that goes into the firebox is not welded all the way around.

It goes through the area where the hot air blows out of and you can actually see where the smoke was leaking from. Probably a recall coming for that. I was able to repair it as I am a welder by trade.

Wasn’t happy but it was a lot of work getting to this point and I did not want to start over. Then about a week later my wife went to put a piece of wood in in the morning while I was still in bed and the door fell off.

Probably recall #2. Keep in mind the stove was going and the door was hot as hell. The hinge pins backed all the way out and off it came. Fortunately she wasn’t hurt but it damaged our hearth. Again I repaired this and am now wondering what kind of POS I have purchased.

As far as heat output it does a decent job for its size. You will not get more than 4 pieces of wood in it, but you shouldn’t need to. Once you get used to how to start the fires in an EPA stove that is not an issue and works well for a 1000 square feet or less it will not do the 1800 it claims.

No way too small. If it wasn’t for all the safety issues with it I would probably rate it 4 stars. However I recommend spending a little bit more and buying from a stove dealer learn form my mistakes.

I have included pics of the stove installed and as good of a pic of the smoke leak I could take. I have circled where the leak is from and where it is located. The brown spot was the leak. You’re probably going to have to see my Amazon review for pictures I don’t see where to upload here.

After much research, we finally made our purchase. This wood stove has been great! It provides ample heat output and uses very little wood compared to other stoves out there–so you don’t have as many trips outside with your armload of logs when it’s cold outside or snowing heavily on winter nights like last week.

We also purchased the blower at initial installation which helps distribute that precious fire into all corners inside quickly & efficiently. You can stay cozy all night long with plenty of coal inside – no need to worry about running out like with our old wood stove we only get 8-9 hours from one load if lucky!!.

We use this stove to heat our 1200 sq ft A-Frame house on our property in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It goes without saying how cold it can get up there during the winter. I installed this stove in January and l can tell you that it heats the house beyond my expectations.

I went with the 1800 because I wanted the bigger fire box so that we could stoke it up at night and not have to worry about waking up to put more wood in during the night. I woke up at 3:30 am that first morning sweating.

It really didn’t give off that bad of a paint smell, for the first fires, like it said it could. I can tell you that this stove like the flue/chimney hot in order to keep a nice, slow rolling fire with the door closed.

Until I got a good set of coals and a nice hot chimney, I had to keep the door cracked to all the fire to burn well enough to accomplish this. Once everything is hot, this stove will not disappoint.

I’m really happy with my Drolet Escape 1800 Wood stove. I’ve been using it all winter, and it’s been great. It was easy to set up, and the reviews on different websites were all very positive. It has been a great addition to my home, and it really helps to heat the living room up quickly.

The wood burns for 6-7 hours, so it’s perfect for those cold winter days. I also like that the fan circulates the air, which makes it much more comfortable to be in the room. This stove is definitely worth the investment.

I would definitely recommend this stove to anyone looking for a quality wood stove.

I cannot get this “kiln dried” wood to burn without working at it. Also, how does “kiln dried” wood have moss and fungus on it? Why is “kiln dried” wood so dense? Why does “kiln dried” wood look so resinous when split? The previous brand Academy carried lit very easily but not this wood.

And their “lump” charcoal is everything but. Nothing but small chips and dust these days!.

I’ve started using these bags of wood since I don’t have access to many locally sourced kinds of wood to smoke with. So far these have worked out well. Very clean burns. The size of the logs varies greatly, however.

Some are kindling size and some are logs that I have to ax down to the right size for my smoker. The price is amazing and unbeaten.

Very convenient as I don’t own a truck to go to a firewood place and it’s just enough wood to get through a cook or two. The wood is very nice as well. The pieces are generally straight without a lot of knots so you can easily split it more if you need to.

I try to buy it ahead of time just to give it some air time. It burns really well and I’m always happy with it and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone,.

I have now used several bags of these and I’m really pleased that B+Q are stocking them. They’re a great idea/ eco-friendly (why not?) and actually MUCH better value than wood if you’re buying that in small bags – as I do because I don’t have the space to store a lot of wood.

I have used them in a wood-burning stove. I use some wood kindling and paper to get the fire going – probably a few more sticks of wood than I would with kiln-dried logs as the first one needs a bit of heat to get going.

They do flame when they catch light but then settle sooner than wood into a nice warm glow. They do burn pretty hot so I usually only add one at a time when the last one is about half-spent. In fact they’re so hot that if you leave it a bit long and the last one appears to be out you can throw in another and it will usually catch – with the same amount of wood that is less likely to happen.

You can also combine them some-and-some with logs for a bit more flame. I do that sometimes if I want to sit and watch the fire. Some other reviews have talked about smoking. I haven’t tried them in an outdoor pit but I’m guessing that they haven’t got up the initial heat needed to set fire to them properly.

I was hoping for a good smell of coffee when first opening a bag of these log, but sadly no whiff of coffee. But there was a noticeable increase in heat from my aga ludlow stove. I tossed in 4 logs onto an established fire.

Good heat for nearly 2 hours. Good value if you purchase 2 or more. Good heat from them. Quick delivery. The logs seem to be held together with with a wax of some kind. I would recommend.

Love these. We’ve used them in our small wood stove as a major source of home heating for the past two years and have found them easy to use, hot and reliable. Light them correctly on already burning kindling (which we do) or a more established fire and they burn easily and seem to produce no more smoke than wood products – ie little visible smoke, which all goes up the chimney.

So far (its August 2022) the price has changed little in the 18 months, unlike everything else!.

I shopped locally in upstate NY for a woodstove to get me through what is turning out to be a very mild winter. $1800+ delivery was a bit more than I wanted to spend (like 2x). I checked the specs on this stove and even though it is bigger than I originally wanted I am very satisfied with the stove.

It has massive steel construction (550+ lbs) that holds the heat overnight w/full turndown. Pop a few small logs in the AM and it starts up in about 10 minutes. The large door easily accepts 8. 5″ diameter logs and I can feed in 18″ lengths at an angle.

The firebox is massive allowing a lot of wood to be piled in for the overnight. Check around for the owner’s manual. Lots of great details in there. The spacing to combustibles is much less than other smaller stoves.

The glass stays relatively clean from the intake air wash from the three overhead air supply tubes. It comes assembled – take out the top cardboard spacers, reposition the insulation/bricks, connect the STEEL flue pipe you need to buy (not galvanized) to your chimney/recommended flue and it starts (add the trim on the bottom).

Generous bottom fed ash box to make cleanout simple. Get a flue mount thermometer for $15 to help monitor the burn rate. Before you buy this consider the delivery. I knew it was only going to the local freight house and I would have to pick it up or opt for delivery.

Crate size was 48″ high which prevented picking this up with my van. A pickup would probably do but it needs to come out/down. I had them deliver with a liftgate, but they only dropped it on the road (no private road delivery!).

Lots of muscle to get it into the house. Suggest you consider renting a floor jack (like for pallets). It will get it onto a garden cart. It will also move short distances on a hand truck with pneumatice tires.

Overall a great buy.

This is a fantastic stove. Well made, quite efficient, attractive. We heat a 2800 square foot home with it. The air intake adjustment is above the door which is very handy (I saw another reviewer didn’t like that, and claims that smoke comes out when he adds wood.

Smoke escaping has nothing to do with the air intake. Instead, this reviewer obviously has poor draft. I’d highly recommend that he have his pipe cleaned, and possible run it higher. ) The price at Northerntool.

com is 1/2 what it is at a local dealer. Truly an amazing stove for this price. The glass is wonderful. Anyone with door windows should purchase a spray specifically designed for removing soot. It works amazingly.

Literally dissolves residue on contact. There are two pieces of advice I’d give drolet. First, add a larger ash pan. This could be done easily by moving the stop back, and elongating the existing pan.

The ashpan is the only drawback, but is not a priority issue for me in any stove. Second, the optional fan is quite weak. The concept of moving air through the stove’s jacket is wise, but the fan is very loud, with little air movement! Not worth the money, and certainly not worth the noise.

These two issues are not huge priorities in a stove for me, so I didn’t lower my rating.

I purchased this stove because it was a large, heavy EPA certified stove that seemed to be at a better price point than equivalent stoves. I’ve burned about a half a cord of wood in it so far and this is my experience.

Good things 1. After buring a full load, have re-started it up to 13. 5 hours later without kinling, paper or matches. 2. Heavy stove, heavier than my friends similar sized cast iron stove and much heavier than many steal stoves this size.

3. Big glass front gives a nice view of the fire. 4. Area near air control stays cool enough that you wont burn yourself if you accidentally touch it while changing the air intake. 5. Puts out a lot of heat.

6. Drolet tech staff answers questions quickly 7. Burns smokeless once up to temp. Bad things. 1. Has a plug in the fire box floor that you remove to transfer ash to the ash pan. This doesn’t seem as convenient as having a grate in the fire box floor and a sealed ash pan door like some other stoves.

2. I didn’t prefer the gold trim on the top of the stove but it was easy to paint black with stove paint. I wanted to give 4 and 3/4 stars because I think the ash removal setup could be better. But that’s not an option so I rounded to 5 stars.

I still haven’t seen a comparable stove at the same price, and am more than happy with my purchase. Also, this isn’t good or bad, but the stove has a modern look that is almost an industrial look due to it’s size.

If you are looking for a quaint looking stove for the corner of your victorian house, this isn’t it. If you like the plain form meets function look and want a ton of heat output than consider this stove.
